THE MIGHTY TECHNIQUES FOR A REDEMPTION

WachenRöder is set like this. You follow a story with no freedom of mo-
vement, then face some foes and have to fight them the tactical way.

*about the battle maps:

The battle maps are pretty huge and a great attention was given to the
originality of the fields. There are 31 battles in total and they all
but one have their own map. The programmers tried really hard to give
the fields a lot of tactical potential as they are, more than any
other game, in a true 3D environnement. I am not talking technical-
ly, but you'll understand what I'm talking about when I'll say that
some of the maps are set on more than 30 floors !!! This is huge. But
that wouldn't be interesting if you couldn't take advantage of it.
Therefore, here are the influences I've noticed:

a)Guys have more difficulties (understand more APs used) to climb up
  stairs than to go down.

b)You do more damage when you are on an upper level than your opponent,
and less if you're on a lower one.
c)Like in FFT, your position influences the damage you'll take. If you
are attacked from behind, you'll get much more damage than from the
side, and even less from the front, which allows much more counters.

d)The environnement you are standing on of course changes your speed,
but that casual phenomenon is here put to it's climax.

e)The temperature also affects your heat increase (see the weapon sec-
tion). It is said at the beginning of a battle.

*about the Action points:

The battle is played party's turn by party's turn. This means all of
your players act, then the enemy moves. You have all the time you want
to move your players (except when specified) and the characters actions
are limited by Action Points (like in a few other tRPGs). That means
that you have 99 APs to use the way you want; the further you go ,the
bigger number of points you lose, the more attacks you do,the bigger
number of points you lose, etc... Those points then come back for the
next turn, but not entirely. That means that the more points you use in
a turn, the less you'll get back. Fortunately, as you get more exper-
ienced, you'll lose less APs per action and they will go back quickier.
You should anyway manage to use at least 50% of your APs per turn, be-
cause under that it would anyway come back to the top and you might
have lost opportunities by saving too much. Moreover, some items or
magics have the ability to give you back your APs.

*about the weapon system :

The second consideration you should have in terms of limitation is the
battle gear you guys have. Indeed, the major part of your party use
steam-weapons (it's the future, man!). These are called "Steam Refine
Gear" (SRG). To use them correctly, you have to consider a few points:

a)You can choose the level of harm (from 1 to 5) that you're going to
use against any enemy; That works like the gears for a car. I mean
that once again the higher you take, the more APs you use. Besides,
there is a steam jauge divided in two parts:

      .--> oooo     [            ]   <-.
      |                                |
      |                                |
      |                                |
      |                                |
      |                                |
\.this jauge is                  \.the steam limit jauge
here to show                     allows you to check
the degree of                    what level of heat you
heat your SRG                    will reach depending
has gained.                      on the attack and the
The 1st ball is                  attack gear you want
blue, the 2nd                    to use. A bar shows up
is yellow, the                   to see the actual heat
3rd is orange &                  level and a white ver-
the 4th one is                   tical line warns you
red. They allow                  of the heat increase
you to know when                 result of the operation.
to rest your SRG:                For example:

        oooo -> cold                     [  |         ]
*ooo -> cool                      means your weapon is
**oo -> warm                      cold and should get
***o -> hot                       cool (the bar bears
**** -> danger                    the same color expla-
                                          nation as the oooo).
        Try to leave your
        SRG between warm                 [*******   | ]
and hot. When you                 means your weapon is
reach the danger,                 warm/hot and should
your weapon will                  reach danger. You'd
need to cool off                  better change for a
and it will be                    less dangerous gear.
        unusable for a
        period of time...                [*******|**  ]
                                          means your action will
                                          lower the heat jauge.

                                               etc...

Always be careful of this because it is THE major component of the
  attack system.

b)The weapons are divided in 4 types. Your party will access 3 of them
but it won't be equally given; the bow type e.g. is pretty rare. Be-
sides, a character only access one type for the rest of the game.
  Here are the types:

(note: the types only explain the hitting range; e.g. sword-types
are not just swords but all weapons hitting at close range only)

(note2: when a B! is next to a char.'s name, it means it' a boss)

(note3: if you see a ?, it means i'm not sure of the translation)

 SWORD type:  Any weapon that only hit the squares next to the char.;
 ~~~~~~~~~~~  this is the major type in the game; It is the strongest
              type of all; It's heat factor is so-so and depends on
              the basis of the weapon.
 ~~~~~~~~~  ways; that means straight forward, straight aside, or
straight behind. Your ammunitions aren't counted but you
are forced to see the char. you're aiming at. The gun is
very powerful but heats up VERY quickly.

c)As I said before, your character is unable to use more than one type
of weapon. But you can buy some at the shops or black markets. See
the menus explanations for further information.

*general strategy:

Okay, here is a general basic strategy for all the battles:

- Never use the weak chars in front line ( womens and archers...)
- Stay in small groups when you face enemys with no magic power.
- Always try to get on upper levels (thanks to stairs, boxes, etc...)
to hit the enemies with more damage.
- Proceed by groups, giving them a goal to achieve.
- Have at least 1/5 (I'm on a rate of 1/4) of healers in your team.
- Kill a weak enemy with your less experienced chars so that they
catch back the others. A good balance in your team is essential.
- Be careful to what your char can do (is he a Bow-type ? does he heal
  ?)

*about the classes:

There is no class change in WachenRöder so do not worry about it.

ACCOMPLISH YOUR DESTINY , SAVE YOUR SOUL

                       Prologue story:

I do not have a fucking idea of what's going on. The set is a pathetic
future where a boy, Lucian Taylor, seems concerned about his sister. He
then acquires a sword (to survive or to make money ?) but gets his ass
kicked and i dunno why it seems that he feels guilty (was he searching
a medication for his sis'?) and then, tadaa, his sister dies and, well
a few years fly by and it's time for a f'k'ing bad kid to come around,
or not? Damn! That's just assumptions!

B! : means it' a boss
? : means I am not sure of the translation
+  : means a char you have to choose from your list. E.g., if i put:
     " your party: 5
Lucian                    it means that your party will have
Titus                     5 chars, with Lucian, Titus and 3
+Carroll            <---   chars to choose between Franky, Fat-
+Franky                    boy, Carroll, Orange and Bellebete.
       +Fatboy                    I hope it won't confuse you...
       +Orange
       +Bellebete      "

                          -Battle 01-

Story:
Well well...the mister Lucian is next to a bar and meets with Mew. Se-
ems a bit keen on her, huh? She is in trouble and someone has to save
her butt. Besides, we have a mysterious observer on the roof.

Initial map position (IMP):
*party   2              enemies 5     e.HPs        npc     1
 Lucian                 G-???    ?    160          Small
 Carroll                G-???    ?    160
                        G-???    ?    190
                        G-???    ?    190
                    B!  Kikazaru ?    255

*Your 2 chars. are set 1 square from each other. 2 G's are in front of
them & the boss is a few squares behind them. On the far right of the
chars you can see 2 more G's. Small Faces is hidden on the roof top.

Battle:
This one is pretty easy to figure out. There are a few boxes to climb
on, some stairs -but too far to be really useful-, and your opposition
ain't scary. Climb on the 2 boxes with each of your chars. The 2 first
G's should focus on one of them, but 1) he'll be stronger 'cos of his
height 2) the other char will then rush and attack their back ! move to
attack the 2 other G's to gain some exp and then head toward the boss;
heal before reaching him then approach him with a good space between
Lucian and Mew so that one of the chars can hit him in the back as soon
as he gets on the other.

Story:
They go on as Small Faces makes a quote (impressed ?).

                         -Battle 02-

Story:
They meet up with Franky Zappa and then try to escape the guards.

IMP:
*party   2              enemies 4     e.HPs        npc     1
 Lucian              B! kikazaru ?    255          Small
 Carroll                G-???    ?    185
                        G-???    ?    170
                        G-???    ?    170

*That field is the second "training" one. Indeed, it learns to use the
field shape and to interact with the set. You 2 start at one extremi-
ty and must simply go to the other. The 2 firsts G's (including B!)
appear where you starts a few turns later and a second pair will as
suddenly as them appear on the last part of the field.

Battle:
The goal is to escape. But you wouldn't miss a good opportunity to win
A few exp points, would you? Rush towards the first interruptor (let's
call that "int°r" to win some time and space) and unlock it with Car-
roll as Lucian covers. Now proceed to the 2nd part -still avoiding the
fight- and go under the "door", the hole in the wall. Be careful becau-
se you'll be losing defence as your going down to go there. Instead of
going to the next interruptor, prepare an ambush to your followers by
leaving Lucian in front of the door with Carroll just behind to heal
him. Once you're done with them, activate the int°r, go to the next
"door" - you have to unlock it with the last int°r and wait for the 2
next G's with the same srategy in mind. Then go to the exit. You made
it ! { killing is here optional, they're really strong and you might as
well prefer to keep moving on. }

Story:
It seems that you arrive at a "rendez-vous" point where you meet again
with Zappa and encounter Orange. They must be part of a resistance li-
ke the girl and you join them... Pretty classical if so: like a few FFs
or "Star Wars - A new hope"...

                         -Battle 03-

Story:
you left the city for the campaign and find out some guys to have been
captured; Is it the goal of this walk or did you met them by coïnciden-
ce ? Anyway your goal is to save them.

IMP:
*party   2              enemies 10     e.HPs        npc     4
 Lucian                 vagrant B      190          Chemical
Carroll                vagrant A      205          Fatboy Slim
                        vagrant A      240          Idle
                        vagrant A      265          Bellebete
                        vagrant A      100
                        vagrant A      100
                        vagrant A      100
                        vagrant A      100
                        vagrant A      100
                        vagrant A      100

*be careful because there seems to be some traps. And some guys are
just hidden below the grass. Your goal is an interruptor on top left
of your starting position. Note the 2 bridges to cross the river and
the tactical position of the vag.B, an archer that can attack whoever
crosses the river.

Battle:
Ok, there seems to be some trap-squares that inflict damage or call up
new vagrants A (for a total of 10). Theses vag.As ain't strong but too
much is no good considering the next battle is set with no break time !
Here is the easiest way to battle.
Bring directly your 2 chars two the left extremity of the field (I am
considering the directions to be the ones related to the main char's
position at the start) but DO NOT advance in any case. Then hug the bo-
rder 'til you reach the river. Cross the bridge, both of you attacking
the vag.B to kill him as soon as possible. Then hug to the same extre-
mity; you'll face the strongest Vag.A so attack him with Lucian while
Carroll heals him and herself. Then activate the int°r.

Story:
Well, no real time to introduce 'cos here comes the second wave.

                         -Battle 04-

Story:
The boss Gilberto Gil (!) ain't happy-happo of what he's being witness
of. With your new-found allies, just try to stay alive !

IMP:
*party    6             enemies 12    e.HPs        npc     4
 Lucian                 vagrant A     277          ----
 Carroll                vagrant A     284
 Chemical               vagrant B     218
 Fatboy Slim            vagrant A     265
 Bellebete              vagrant A     229
 Idle Lace              vagrant A     229
                        vagrant B     217
                        vagrant A     277
                        vagrant A     284
                        vagrant A     218
                        vagrant A     265
                     B! Gilberto Gil  500

*You start from the cage; The enemies are at the extremity of the field
so it gives you the choice wether to attack them (good...) or simply to
retreat (bad...but smarter !); do note that there is a handy bunch of
stairs next to the enemy's party and that you are now in control of the
river. Some must have guessed my 2 options ;)

Battle:
I think the objective is to remain alive 'til turn 30 ! The stupid but
heroic and joyful answer to that is to strategically go up the stairs
next to the bad dudes and to attack srtategically, with alternance in
the front row. Once you killed the first wave, however, retreat or you
won't enjoy much... The best solution is to act like a coward and run
away from them; You now are the master of the bridge ! use the "ambush"
strategy -as in battle 2- and more important use your new archer ! Bel-
lebete is a benediction in this battle! Ever way do NOT approach the
boss. Repeat after me...

Story:
Well, we see Bellebete talking to the mysterious guy and continue your
journey...

                         -Battle 05-

Story:
You guys meet Titus Groan, who will help for quite a while during the
game. Interesting character. You have to join him to free some friends
kept hostage and on the verge of being sent in a swimming pool of lava.

IMP:
*party    3             enemies  7    e.HPs        npc     0
 Lucian                 Blind-G A     295          prisoner
 Carroll                Blind-G B     270          prisoner
 Titus Groan            Blind-G B     270          prisoner
                        Blind-G A     295          prisoner
                        Blind-G A     210
                        Blind-G B     210
                     B! Suratsupu H.? 310

*The problem is that you're far away from your goal (the boss) and that
you shall face enemies standing on upper stairs. So, how shall we do ?

Battle:
One word: HURRY! You have to reach and beat the Boss -just 310 HPs- be-
fore she kills all 4 of the Prisoners. I ain't know wether it depends
on the number of turns or a real clocktime limit but anyway it's really
short. Stay altogether, I mean do not disperse your 3 chars between the
2 stairs. Sure the Blinds will all attack you on the side but you have
a healer, remember ? Notice that you only face sword-type so stay alto-
gether and do not fear nearby enemies. Just go up as fast as possible,
but keep your chars near each other. Whenever one is attacked, place
Carroll behind and the 2nd char behind the attacker to kill him quickly
as you go on. But what if Carroll is the one attacked? Well, first, you
should avoid that, dummy. But if you can't avoid that, just kill him
with the 2 guys. If you can avoid immediate battle, do so cos' 1) that
is not necessary 2) You're faster than them 3) You can then kill them
easily as they will catch you back on a lower position. You should ar-
rive at the Boss as there are still 2 prisoners. Take care of the boss.

story:
You save the remaining prisoners but, argh, Suratsupu is still around.
You fly away.

                         -Battle 06-

story:
You are in the sewer and need to go throught. Errr..., That's all I did
get.

IMP:
*party    3             enemies 10    e.HPs        npc     0
 Lucian                 Blind-G A     240          ----
 Carroll                Blind-G A     240
 Titus Groan            Blind-G B     290
                        Blind-G C     230
                        Blind-G B     256
                        Blind-G A     235
                     B! Mizaru     ?  315
                        Blind-G D     242
                        Blind-G C     230
                        Blind-G A     235

*Note that after all this is a huge U-turn. Be careful to get all the
int°rs and check what type of Blind-G you're facing. Also note that it
IS possible to go in the water althought unadvised (see below).

Battle:
The goal is to go all way long to finally reach the right side's end.
You have to get all the int°rs activated. Go toward them with Carroll
healing your party. The 4 first are no match for ya; get them as they
are on a lower position (e.g. in the water). Then open the passage.
That part is way more annoying. Kill the B-G D as soon as possible. Do
not take to much risks by activating the int°r before. When you think
you're ready (understand fully healed), Get to the real part. What I
did was to attack the boss as fast as possible. Weird isn't it? Usually
it is way better to kill the buzz around him but here I just rushe on
him. I finally lost Titus but it was then easy to kill the grunt next
to him by going back and forth. Then it got really hot for the last two
but assisted by Carroll I did it. Anyway, you might prefer to do it the
classical way...

Story:
They escape from the city.

                         -Battle 07-

Story:
Our party wants to go to a small village but, as they reach the forest,
they meet up with some sentinels.

IMP:
*party    3             enemies  7    e.HPs        npc     0
 Lucian                 psychobattler ?  255       ----
 Caroll                 psychobattler ?  245
 Titus                  psychobattler ?  245
                        psychobattler ?  240
                        psychobattler ?  240
                        psychobattler ?  235
                        psychobattler ?  235

*You guys start on the lowest part of the field. Notice that there are
2 ways to reach the top. The stream going sown cuts the hill so there
are two 1-square-large bridges (important). Three guys are surrounding
you and 4 more are waiting on one side of the cliff.

Battle:
This battle is pretty easy. You of course must not take the large path
to the cliff, which is full of enemies. Prefer the side path on your
right; Crush the enemy guarding the bridge. You can wait on it then to
kill the 2 low ground Psys but they're pretty strong so I would suggest
to wait for your party to be on the stairs before you do anything. If
you proceeded quickly enough you should be able to reach the top easily
and safely. Then rush toward the 2nd bridge to ambush the other psys;
you should be able to fight at least 3 of them on a higher place, ei-
ther on the bridge, either going down the cliff.

Story:
You meet up with George Koan who leads you to the village where some
old faces will come back...

                         -Battle 08-

Story:
You meet up with Fatboy Slim, Bellebete, Idle Lace and Chemical as you
reach the village, but as this game is a T-RPG, we need to battle, huh!
We see Idle and Fatboy doing a little chit-chat and Iwazaru makes its
entrance.

IMP:

*The boss is alone on the hill. Be careful to the 3 Blinds in the mid-
dle of the field, they are stronger than the rest. Be careful to note
that there's one Gun-type on the party's left and one Bow-type on it's
right.

Battle:
The 8th battle is harder because you have to figure out where to start.
Whereas it is obvious that the (strong) Boss should be left alone 'till
the very end, you must hurry to select a strategy. I divided 3 possibi-
lities:
start on the right:    start on the middle:     start on the left:

Anyway, you should arrive at least with 3 chars including a strong Lu-
cian and Bellebete. Attack Iwazaru with your strong chars and Bellebete
behind them. Near the end, rotate, leaving Bellebete to the boss so
that your other chars can attack him without being killed. May not make
it, thought, but I haven't found  much better to do.

Story:
You do some chit-chat with the mayor which seems to be Idle's father.

                         -Battle 09-

Story:
This one is a mistery to me. Carroll is captured, but I couldn't get
where (is it some sort of heliport ?) nor what our heroes decide to do.
Anyway, you end up underground, with Small, Orange and Franky Zappa.

IMP:
*party    7             enemies 10    e.HPs        npc     0
 Lucian                 Sutaïru Ka.   ? 385        ----

+Fatboy                 PFM             355
                        PFM             310

*Note the ingenious system for climbing the metallic hedge. Be careful
that the PFM on the hedge is much weaker than the rest.

Battle:
The main goal is to reach the top level, where the last and strongest
PFM is standing. Choose carefully your squad. Take Bellebete and Titus
for sure, and take a bet with Orange DX if you wish to. I have no much
great walkthrought to tell you right here. So I'll just give you a few
untidy advices:
-Small's job is to get in the vent shaft to activate the shiftso that
you guys can cross the hedge.
-the boss is not that strong, the danger is global.
-Destroy the PFMs as soon as possible; Bellebete and Orange are helpful
here.
-The 4 last enemies ar way harder to beat then the rest.
-Do it step by step: before the hedge, the hedge, after the hedge...
-If you are careful enough, ALL of your party should make it to the
last PFM.

Story:
Small seems to say something important. Well, it's time to jump on the
3rd part of our lovely FAQ, isn't it ?
