1. INTRODUCTION
========================================================================

Hello.  This FAQ is for Capcom's Warriors of Fate (World)/Tenchi o
Kurau II (Japan)/Sangokushi 2 (Asia).  This is my first FAQ so please
bear with me as I hope to bring you a complete and descriptive FAQ.  In
general, I'm aiming this to be a technical FAQ instead of a strategy
FAQ.

========================================================================
2. STORY & GAME HISTORY
========================================================================

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Story
------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the prologue during the English game demo:

Shang-Lo: a country ruled by murder and violence under the iron fist of
dark lord Akkila-Orkhan.

Having driven his own country into ruin and despair, Akkila-Orkhan now
casts his covetous eyes on his neighboring countries.

As his conquering shadow spread, one man rose up against this black
tide.  His name was Kuan-Ti, and with the aid of the five greatest
warriors and the one wisest mind in his realm, Kuan-Ti would fight to
defend his people and lands.

The battle begins...

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Game History
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Released in 1992 for arcades on the CPS1 system, Capcom released the
second game of their Tenchi o Kurau series.  Unlike the first game in
the series which was a side-scrolling horseback riding action game,
Warriors of Fate is a side-scrolling beat-em-up in the same vein as
Final Fight.  It is also the only game in the series to have been
released in western arcades.

The Tenchi o Kurau series is based on the Chinese tale best known as
Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

For convenience, when I refer to the World version, it means both the
US and World versions of the game.

========================================================================
3. GAME MECHANICS
========================================================================

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Game System
------------------------------------------------------------------------

This game supports up to 3 players simultaneously as they attempt to
play though 9 stages.  Players can select up to 5 different characters
to play as and each character has different strengths, abilities, and
special attacks.

Players work in cooperation to defeat enemies and player attacks will
not harm other players.  However, if players attack each other when
there isn't an enemy nearby, players WILL be able to hurt each other but
can NEVER kill each other.

When players die and they have a spare life, characters drop from the
top of the screen and all enemies are knocked down taking damage.  The
character remains invincible for a short moment.

When a player continues, they can switch characters.

Each stage has a timer.  Should the timer expire during the game, all
players lose their current life.  The timer then resets.

Each stage contains a boss.  Completion of a stage will restore all
characters' life to full.

A notation for the game controls and other notations are as follows:

[ Joystick and Buttons ] -----------------------------------------------

Joystick : move character (f-forward, b-backward, u-up, d-down)
A        : attack
B        : jump

[ Other Notations ] ----------------------------------------------------

hcf      : roll joystick from b to f (b,bd,d,df,f)
knockback: enemy knocked away from character.
knockdown: enemy is knocked away and falls to the ground.
fatality : upon successful kill, causes enemy to be decapitated/cut in
half/upper or whole body blown up.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basic Commands
------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a list of basic commands that every character can use:

Basic Combo            Press A (x3)
-Throw Ender           Hold u or d anytime before the last A of combo
Item Pick Up           Press A when over an item
Charge Knockdown       Press d+B or df+B
Killer Attack          Press d,u+A
Desperation Attack     Press A+B simultaneously

Grab Enemy             Press f near enemy
-Throw                 After successful grab, press f+A or b+A
  -Choke/Stab            After successful grab, press A (x3)

-A basic combo consists of 3 successful chained hits.  The last hit is
always a knockdown hit unless they use a throw ender.
-Using the throw ender, that last hit of a basic combo will be a throw
instead of a knockdown hit.  Holding u will throw the enemy behind you
while holding d will throw the enemy forward. (credit to Marco Nadal)
-Any attack in a combo other than the 3rd knockdown hit can be canceled
into a killer, desperation, or special attack.
-Charge knockdown has your character dashing forwards and knocking back
all enemies in your path.  Great for clearing out groups.  It only hits
each enemy once, with the exception of Portor.
-Killer attack is a multihitting attack that varies according to
character.  A successful kill using this attack will result in enemy
 fatality.
-Desperation attacks hits all nearby enemies once.  Uses up player
health ONLY if the attack contacts an enemy.  Causes fatality.
-Throwing an enemy can knockdown other enemies.
-Choke/stab can be done up to 3 times, in which the last strike will
 cause a knockdown.
-Any choke/stab other than the 3rd knockdown hit can be canceled into a
throw or killer, desperation, or special attack.

-In general, the longest and most damaging combo a player can do is:
     A, A, (grab), choke/stab, choke/stab, Killer Attack

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Horseback Commands
------------------------------------------------------------------------

At various times during the game, players can find and ride on horses.
Riding on a horse gives players longer attack range and horse specific
special commands.  To get on a horse, just walk up to it.  A horse will
randomly run away when a player is knock off it or when it is standing
idle for awhile without a rider.  Also, B no longer functions as a jump.

Basic Combo            Press A (x3)
Item Pick-Up           Walk over item
Change Direction       Hold b
Beserker Attack        Press A rapidly
Throw                  ???+A
Desperation Attack     Press A+B simultaneously
Back Attack            Press b+A or db+A
Energy Attack          hcf+A
Heavy Attack           Press B
Charge                 Press f+B or df+B
Quick Reverse Attack   Press b+B or db+B
Charging Killer        Press f+B,B quickly
Dismount               Press d+B

-A basic combo consists of 3 successful chained hits.  The last hit is
 always a knockdown hit.
-Beserker attack is a multihitting attack and lasts as long as you can
rapidly bash on the attack button.
-Desperation attack hits all nearby enemies once.  Uses up player
health ONLY if the attack contacts an enemy.  Causes fatality.
-Back attack is a knockback.
-Energy attack is a heavy attack that has a blue fire-like effect.
Causes a fatality upon successful kill.  Kadan's is special and is
 described in the character section.
-Heavy attack is a knockback.
-Charge has your horse charging forward.  A hit causes a knockback, but
unlike a normal character charge, this one does multiple hits.
-Quick reverse causes your horse to reverse direction then attacks with
 a knockback hit.
-Charging killer is a charge while your character does his desperation
attack.  However, this move does NOT take away any of your character's
health and causes a fatality upon a successful kill.  Multihits.
?A player can throw enemies while on a horse but I have not found the
precise command or requirements to do this consistently.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Character & Character Specific Commands
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Characters are ordered according to their order during the character
select screen.  Their "English" names are listed first, followed by the
Japanese names in parenthesis.  Listed is a description of their Killer
attack and then a listing of their character specific moves.

[ Portor (Kan-U) ] -----------------------------------------------------

-The barehanded big guy in blue and white clothes.
*Killer Attack*:      Flying Elbow
Backbreaker           After successful grab, press B or f+B or b+B,
                      then A in midair

-Note: Portor's charge attack can hit an enemy multiple times.

-Portor's killer attack has him leap forward and then land with a
flying elbow.  Hits on the way up and down.
-Doing a backbreaker move but not pressing the A button ender will
cause Portor to release his enemy during midfall.
-Backbreaker, like a normal throw, can be used to hit adjacent enemies.

[ Kassar (Chou-Hi) ] ---------------------------------------------------

-The dark skinned guy in a yellow shirt
*Killer Attack*:      Power Punch
Bite                  After successful grab, press d+A
Piledriver            After successful grab, press B, then A in midair
Aerial Suplex         After successful grab, press f+B or b+B, then A
                      in air

-Note: Kassar's choke/stab is unique in that he raises his enemy above
his head.  Because of this, after a choke/stab you cannot combo into
 a killer attack.
-Note: A minor note, Kassar gets 2 different normal throw animations
instead of just one.  His f+A throw is a normal throw animation while
his b+A throw is a suplex. (credit to Marco Nadal)
-Note: A minor note, after Kassar does a choke move and then you throw
the enemy, it uses the b+A throw animation (suplex) instead of the
normal f+A throw. (credit to Marco Nadal)

-Kassar's killer attack is a powerful lunging forward punch.  Has
 slight start up lag.
-Bite attack will have Kassar bite his enemy automatically.  The number
of bites he can do is dependent on the enemy.
-Doing a piledriver or suplex but not pressing the A button ender will
cause Kassar to release his enemy during midfall.
-Piledriver and suplex, like a normal throw, can be used to hit
 adjacent enemies.

[ Subutai (Chou-Un) ] --------------------------------------------------

-The guy in blue armor and a sword
*Killer Attack*:      Sword Uppercut
Downward Thrust       Press B, then A
Flying Kick           Press f+B or b+B, then A
Sliding Upper         Press d,uf+A or db,uf+A

-Subutai's killer attack is a shoryuken with a sword ^_^  Has NO
 startup time.  Goes straight up.
-Sliding Upper is a Sword Uppercut with an added forward dash in the
 beginning.  Causes fatality.

[ Kadan (Kou-Chuu) ] ---------------------------------------------------

-The old man with a bow
*Killer Attack*:      Bow Uppercut
Midair Arrow          Press B, then A
Falling Dagger        Press f+B or b+B, then A
Arrow Rage            Press A repeatedly
Flip Toss             After successful grab, press B, then A quickly

-Note: Kadan uses arrows as his main weapon.  Regular shots are angled
downward slightly and thus do not travel full screen.
-Note: While on horseback, doing an Energy attack will shoot a flaming
 arrow that hits multiple enemies.

-Kadan's killer attack is a uppercut with a bow.  The bow hits forward
while going up, and hits backwards while going down.  Note that Kadan
will face in the reverse direction you started the attack.
-Arrow rage will shoot 3 arrows in quick succession.  The first arrow
goes full screen and the other two at lower angles.  Causes fatality.
-Doing a flip toss but not pressing the A button ender will cause Kadan
to flip behind his enemy and release the grab.
-Flip toss, like a normal throw, can be used to throw the enemy to hit
 adjacent enemies.

[ Abaka (Gi-En) ] ------------------------------------------------------

-The bald guy in green armor
*Killer Attack*:      Somersault Kick
Headcrusher           After successful grab, press B or f+B or b+B,
                      then A in midair

-Abaka's killer attack is a Flash kick ^_^
-Doing a headcrusher but not pressing the A button ender will cause
Abaka to release his enemy during midfall.
-Headcrusher, like a normal throw, can be used to hit adjacent enemies.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Items

use them.  Items can be found in chests, barrels, or from enemies.
Items are separated into their respective categories:

========================================================================
4. GAME WALKTHROUGH
========================================================================

The game consists of 9 stages.  As mentioned in the introduction
section, this will be more of a list of stats for each stage and I'll
leave most of the strategy to you, the player.  I'll only mention
strategy if it is relevant to do so.  This is just a side-scrolling
fighter.  How much strategy could I give?

English translated stage titles are listed first then the Japanese
romanji version in parenthesis.

At the end of each stage, Stage Completion, Time, and Vitality points
are awarded to all players.  The player who killed the boss gets an
additional Victory bonus while the player who did the most boss
damage gets the Special bonus.

Bonus Scoring:
Stage Completion    See stage walkthrough
Time Bonus     sec.x100
Vitality Bonus   HPx100  (Perfect 20000)
Victory Bonus       1000 (Normal), 5000 (Fatality), 10000 (Decapitation)
Special Bonus       10000

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 1- Battle on Hakubou Slope-Part 1  (Hakubouha no Tatakai-Ichi)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you begin the stage solo, you begin riding on a horse.  Otherwise
everyone starts on foot.

Stage Boss:  Gaidu (Ri-Ten)
Stage Completion Bonus:  12000

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 2- Battle on Hakubou Slope-Part 2  (Hakubouha no Tatakai-Ni)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stage Boss:  Lhaze (Kakou-Ton)
Stage Completion Bonus:  15000

[ Bonus Stage 1 ] ------------------------------------------------------

This is the first of two bonus stages.  In this bonus stage, 3 players
are in an eating contest.  If there are less than 3 players, the other
spots are filled by the CPU.  Should another player join in at this
time, the bonus stage resets to the beginning for a fresh start.

To win, roll the controller in 360 degrees as fast as you can and press
A and B repeatedly.

Bonus Scoring:
Time Bonus     sec.x100
(6) Bun            x1000
(3) Chicken        x2000
(1) Barbecue       x5000
Perfect Bonus       10000

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 3- New Field Region  (Shinyaiki)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

This stage is split into 2 parts, one long and one short.

Stage Boss:  Taranis (Kyo-Cho)
Stage Completion Bonus:  20000

You will regain full health before beginning the second part.

Stage Boss: Izia (Mei-Mei), Arika (Mei-Ya), San-Jin (Mei-Ling)
Stage Completion Bonus:  12000

Because these three bosses are women, you can't see the effects of a
fatality.  However, the special bonus can still determine whether your
attack would cause a fatality.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 4- White River  (Hakuga)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stage Boss:  Atika (Sou-Jin)
Stage Completion Bonus:  25000

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 5- Battle on Chousaka Slope  (Chousakaha no Tatakai)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stage Boss:  Baidu (Jun' U-Dou)
Stage Completion Bonus:  15000

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 6- Chousaka Bridge  (Chousakakyou)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you reach the screen with a sign pointing to a fork in the road in
the background, Sugisugi (Kakou-On) will appear on a horse.  He'll
appear from one of 4 positions.  Kill him before he can leave the screen
and you'll get the Seikou sword.

When you reach the boss, during the battle you'll see Yestai (Zhao-Ming)
the dark colored muscle man.  Kill him and you'll randomly get the
rainbow bladed Shichisei.

Stage Boss:  Jerrek (Kakou-Ketsu), Dasadas (An-Mei)
Stage Completion Bonus:  15000

[ Bonus Stage 2 ] ------------------------------------------------------

The second of the two bonus stages.  If you're playing solo, this is a
typical 'break the objects' game.  20 wood statues of Akkila-Orkhan will
fall from the top of the screen.  Statues will eventually walk off the
screen if left alone for too long and statues can take from 1-3 hits to
destroy.

If there is more than one player, this becomes a duel where players
fight against each other.  The last person standing wins.

Bonus Scoring:
Time Bonus      sec.x100
(20) Statue         x1000
Perfect Bonus        20000
Vitality Bonus    HPx100 (Perfect 20000) -vs. only-

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 7- Battle of Redwall-Part One  (Sekiheki no Tatakai-Ichi)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stage Boss:  Kublai-Dakan (Chou-Ryuu)
Stage Completion Bonus:  25000

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 8- Battle of Redwall-Part Two  (Sekiheki no Tatakai--Ni)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you get into palace, just before the floor crumbles, you'll fight a
large group of muscle men.  Kill the dark skinned muscle man and he'll
randomly drop the Kai club.

Hit to the right of second pillar in boss room and a treasure chest will
fall from the sky.  Break it and you'll randomly find a Hiryu sword.

Stage Boss:  Kai'Bataar (Jo-Kou)
Stage Completion Bonus:  15000

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 9- Hanayou Path  (Hanayoumichi)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The final stage is also split into 2 parts.  Again 1 long, 1 short.

At the beginning of the 2nd scene with the log fences, move to the upper
left corner.  Hit to your left and a treasure chest will fall out of the
sky.  In it is the flaming Kusanagi sword which will kill any enemy in
1-2 hits.  You'll automatically drop it when you reach the bridge
though so you can't breeze through the stage. T_T

Stage Boss:  Temujin-Khan (Ryo-Fu)
Stage Completion Bonus:  80000

You will receive full energy before beginning the second part.  Now,
depending on which version of the game you're playing this scene will be
very different.

World version:  You confront Akkila-Orkhan and is given a VERY short
amount of time to defeat him.  The stage ends whether you beat him in
the time limit or not.

Japanese version:  Upon cornering Sou-Sou, you are given one of two
choices:  Kill (Korosu) or Release (Nigasu).  If you choose to kill,
you will proceed as if you were playing the US/World version.  If you
choose to release him, you will let Sou-Sou go and end the stage.

Final Boss:  Akkila-Orkhan (Sou-Sou)
Stage Completion Bonus:  90000

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ending
------------------------------------------------------------------------

You're then given a final series of bonus points.  They are awarded only
to the player that beat the stage's boss.  It takes the time from the
stage time bonus and multiplies it with a new score multiplier.  If you
didn't kill Akkila-Orkhan (Sou-Sou) there is no Stage9b bonus.

Time bonuses:
       Stg1  Stg2  Stg3  Stg4  Stg5  Stg6  Stg7  Stg8  Stg9a Stg9b
sec.x  300   500   700   800   800   900   1000  1500  3000  4000

Then the player with the highest score gets a kiss ^_^  You then see one
of 3 endings depending on what you did during the encounter with
Akkila-Orkhan (Sou-Sou):

Ending 1:  Killed Akkila-Orkhan (Sou-Sou)
With the defeat of Akkila-Orkhan, Kuan-Ti soon rebuilt his kingdom.
With peace and prosperity restored to the land, he began a long and
glorious reign which was remembered and celebrated for generations.
GOOD ENDING

Ending 2:  Did not kill Akkila-Orkhan (Sou-Sou)
Akkila-Orkhan soon returned and with help of his minions, he quickly
conquered the country.  Crushing any dissent in his iron fist.
BAD ENDING

Ending 3 (Japan only):  Let Akkila-Orkhan (Sou-Sou) go
Akkila-Orkhan returned to his country after the battle with Kuan-Ti's
superior forces and the situation with the 3 countries...
For now, peace has come to the land.  However, it would also not
continue for very long...
AVERAGE ENDING

After the ending, you see a small picture of your character (unless you
got the bad ending) and are then treated to the credits, highlighted
with screen captures of the finishing blows to each boss.

voice at the end of every stage.  (The enemy commander (boss name) has
 been killed!)

-In stage 9, you can select from 2 decisions which could determine
which of 3 endings you would get.

Version 1.1 (April 8, 2001)
-No I didn't become a masochist and made a complete breakdown of the
scoring system. ^_^  But I did fix a few formating errors and a
spelling mistake.  Nothing really much else to note.

Version 1.0  (April 7, 2001)
-3 days and it's finished, my first FAQ.  Well practically everything I
wanted to really put in is here.  The only things left that could be
added are translations of the missing scenes not found in the World
version and, if I was a masochist, a complete breakdown of the scoring
system. ^^;  But I wouldn't hold your breath for that last one.
