The Sega Touring Car Championship is intended for use with only the rear
wheel drive cars, namely the Mercedes and Supra. This guide is an edited
version of another guide that can be found at:

http://home.netvigator.com/~tesence

Make sure you visit it, because there is even more racing stuff over there
(Sega Rally 2). For best results, use a SEGA 3D Pad. Set the Limit to around
45, that way the control won't be as sensitive.

I, Don Nguyen, did not use this guide when I got my time of 2'45. It was after
I got this time that I found Terence's guide. I was planning to make one about
two years ago, but since there was already one and since his strategies were
basically the same as mines, I just quit. However I don't think his version
was widespread enough(you can only find it at the STCC Salon and his website)
so finally I decided to make a text version so that it became more available.

Out-In-Out Method >> Start from the outside, turn into the inside, and end up
back outside. Take a look at the diagram.

Terence's(ASS) best total time(Saturn) is 2'43"603!
Don's(NEGATE.2) best total time(Saturn) is 2'45"442.
^^^^^ Only because my save game got
                                             erased four times. I swear!

Country Circuit (Qualifying heat, Round 1):
Qualifying ------- Target time : 24"500 or below (Terence's record is 23"905)
COURSE 1 ------- Target time : 45"500 or below (Terence's record is 45"035)

Description >> This circuit consists of 7 corners.

Starting: Nothing special, but you need to change to 5th gear as the race
starts for faster acceleration. (Not the qualifying heat!)

1st corner (RIGHT):
Using the out-in-out method will do. First, you need to keep you car on the
left side of the track, then enter the corner from left to right slowly using
gear 6. Try to keep your car faster than 175 MPH in the turn. In the best
case, you should be able to drive in the light grey part in the corner. Your
car will 'jump out' from the corner, but try not to collide into the wall.

2nd corner (RIGHT):
After the 1st corner, you will enter the 2nd corner. You need to keep your car
running on the middle part of the track, not the right. If you drive on the
right, your car will decelerate a bit. In this corner you need to keep your
car running at >180 MPH. Your car will be on the middle of the track after
this corner.

3rd corner (LEFT):
Again you need to drive on the middle part of the track. You will find that
the track is banked, so if you turn too much, your car will skid (especially
for the FR cars). The optimum speed in this corner is about 175 MPH.

4th and 5th corner (RIGHT, LEFT):
After the 3rd corner, you will enter an s-corner. No special skills needed,
just driving straight will get you passed through these two corners easily.

6th corner (RIGHT):
Your car will run at top speed after the s-corner. So you need to keep your
car on the left side of the track. Again, please do not try to cut the corner
too much. The optimum speed in this corner is about 158 MPH. Your car will be
on the left side of the track after this corner.

7th corner (RIGHT):
Keep your car running on the left side of the road. You'll need to enter the
corner slower after you pass through the shadow on the track. Keep your car as
fast as possible in this corner (>186 MPH).

========================= note  ======================    ====== = === == ===
For the qualifying heat and the final lap of the first round, you can drive
into the pit in order to get a faster time. At about the time that your car
passes through the shadow, you'll need to start to enter the pit area. Don't
crash into the wall in the pit area. The optimum speed is about 183 MPH. This
method is difficult to use but your time can will shortened by 0.2secs!

Grun Walt Circuit (Round 2):
COURSE 2 ------- Target time : 1'00"000 or below (Terence's record is 59"249)

This course can be divided it into 7 parts (corners): This is a high speed
course and you will only need to use the 5th and 6th gear.

1st corner (Right):
When the race starts, keep your car running at the left part of the track, at
the end of the straight road. You will see a muddy curb on the left side of
the road. To properly turn in this corner, you must enter the corner at the
exact time you see the muddy ground. Keep it at gear 6. Don't turn too much in
this corner. The optimum speed is 175 MPH. If you car goes too fast in the
corner, then you can turn the steering wheel or joypad fully to decelerate the
car.

2nd corner (Right):
After the 1st corner, you car should be on the left side of the track, since
the 1st and the 2nd corner are very close, you will need to concentrate the
line you run on the track (Use 6th gear). Nothing special in this corner, but
don't turn the steering wheel too much (FR cars), otherwise your car will skid
and stop! The optimum speed is about 175 MPH.

3rd and 4th corner (Right, left):
After the 2nd corner, your car should be running at top speed. Keep your car
on the left side of the track, enter the corner slowly and try to maintain
your car in the middle of the track after running this corner. After the right
corner, you need to change to gear 5 as you enter the 4th corner. You need to
change back to 6th gear after you pass through this corner.

5th gear (Right):
Again it is a very high speed corner, so you can't cut the corner too much.
Use 6th gear, keep your car just on the left side of the track(don't get too
close to the wall). The car's speed should be about 155 MPH in this corner.

6th gear (Right):
Nothing special in this turn, just keep your car running at about 195 MPH.

7th corner (Right):
This is the final turn for this course. I know that most of the people who
play STCC use gear 4 in this turn, but actually you can use gear 5! Keep your
car running on the left part of the track, then shift to gear 5, release the
gas and turn at the same time (FR cars in arcade). In the Saturn version, you
only need to shift to gear 5 and turn(FR and 4WD cars)! It is quite difficult
to use this method in arcade but it is easy in Saturn version. Try to drive
your car as fast as possible in this corner, the ideal speed is about
137-143 MPH.

Brick Wall Circuit (Round Final):
COURSE 3 ------- Target time : 58"500 or below (Terence's record is 56"674)

This is the most difficult round in STCC. This time I set the target time at
59"000, but actually some people can play faster than 56"000. I don't know how
they do it since I can only get 56"674 in this course in the arcade.

There are 10 corners in this track. It's preferred that you use MT to play
this course. Let's start!

1st, 2nd and 3rd corner (Left, Right, Left):
No skill is needed in these 3 corners, but one thing you need to notice is
that you need to keep your car on the left side after the 3rd corner.
Otherwise, you won't be able to make the next turn at optimum speed.

4th corner (Right):
This corner will require you to step on the brake and gas at the same time.
When you see the horizontal white line on the track, change to gear 5 and then
turn and step on the brake, but don't release the gas. You'll need to practice
this a lot to perfect this corner. Your car will be on the gravel after this
corner, not the track. The optimum is about 137 MPH. You can also use 4th gear
but your time will be a bit slower.

5th corner (Right):
If your car is on the grass, you will have more space to cut this corner.
Before you enter this corner, change to gear 4 first and enter the corner at
about 45 degrees. You can change to gear 5 and 6 as soon as you pass the
corner. The optimum speed is about 100-106 MPH.

6th corner (Right):
After the short straight road, there will be a right turn. When you see the
"SEGA" banner at the top of the screen, shift gears from 6 to 4 quickly and
enter the corner. Keep your car running at 125 MPH on the right side of the
road. Shift back to gear 5 after this corner.

7th corner (Left):
Once again, you will need to make use of the grass on the track again. Use the
out-in-out method(/w gear 5), and you maintain the speed of the car at
137 MPH. Keep your car on the left side of the road after this corner.

8th corner (Right):
When you see the horizontal white line on the track, shift gears from 5 to
4 and enter the corner. Drive your car on the grass of the track and maintain
the speed at about 118 MPH. At the end of this corner, shift to gear 5 and
prepare for the next corner.

9th corner (Left):
Use the out-in-out method again. Cut the corner and make use of the grass on
the left side of the road. You can use gear 5 in this corner and then drive at
top speed on the straightaway.

10th corner (Right U turn):
Hmm...lot of STCC players said that this is the most difficult turn of the
game, but I think it is the easiest one. Drive your car at top speed and at
the end of the straightaway, turn the steering wheel or joypad fully and
shift from 6 to 2. The car will crash and rebound. The head of the car will
now point to the exit of the corner, and make the car running straight.
Simple.
