0) introduction

this is a fairly short game, but is long for an FMV game.  it has wonderful
music  and a great atmosphere.  the walkthru is here only if  you are truly
stuck or simply don't want to mess with the language barrier.

this is the only FMV game i think i've ever really enjoyed.  it is supposed
to be 'scary,' but really is more intriguing than frightening.

my brother, David, did the  walkthru, and i did everything else.  enjoy the
game and only use the walkthru if you really need it;  it might be slightly
disappointing if you use it, since the game will seem *really* short..

1) manual translation

1.1) prologue
-------------
Fred has  lost his memory  and has spent years  wandering from town to town
trying to find out who he is and what the crest on his forehead means.
One day Fred  wandered into the Village of Mist.  There, he is  thrown into
jail, and then  summoned by the  village ruler,  Gordon.  Gordon tells  him
of a  legend that one day  someone with a mysterious crest on  his forehead
will  wander into the town  and find the  lost city, the Village  of Moons.
Gordon then tells him he must find it or be killed (what a choice, eh?).

This is where you, playing the part of Fred, comes in.

1.2) beginning the game
-----------------------
'gekkamugentan - torico -' is a two disc game.
put in disc A, 'evil omen' to begin the game.  when you've finished disc A,
the game will ask for disc B, 'collapse.'
the first screen that comes up (if you have a backup cart) is asking you if
you want to use  backup memory or system memory.  choose the  second if you
want to use backup memory for your saved games.
press 'start' during the opening cinema to skip it.  press 'start' again to
bring up the start menu.  here choose new game or continue.

1.3) playing the game
---------------------
use the d-pad to  control Fred.  'X' brings up your item list, and 'Z' will
allow you to  replay your memories (cinemas).  that is  essentially all you
need to know to play this game.

1.4) characters
---------------
[most of  these are direct translations  from the manual -- i tried  to put
 them into english the best i could]

Gordon:
  Gordon rules the Village of Mist, and no one may enter or leave the town.

Fred:
  you are Fred, and have lost  your memory and been wandering around trying
  to find out who you are.

Anthony:
  a recluse who loves to collect beautiful butterflies.

Morse:
  a moody physician.

Mac:
  a stubborn clockmaker.

Rose:
  a good person who owns a flower shop.

Hal:
  he is Rose's son.

Gray:
  his daughter died and he is very depressed now.

Hannah:
  a lonely innkeeper.

Zaboo:
  she loves Gordon dearly.

Jade:
  he is Gordon's right hand man and watches Fred's every step.

2) cheats/codes

extra movies:
  [in order for this to work you have to save Morse, Hannah, Mac, Rose, and
   Hal -- if you follow  the walkthru below, you will have saved  them all.
   also note that you should only enter the code once - ie, don't enter the
   code repeatedly to make sure you got it - it needs to be enter *once* or
   it won't show you the cinema]

  just after you  complete the game and it asks for disc A again, and after
  the opening cinema,at the title screen enter the code X,Y,Z,A,B,C,L,R and
  wait for  the new cinema.  you can do this five  times and see movies for
  each of the five characters you saved.
