The Battle System [ PART 1-d-2 ]
\============/
Dragon Master Silk uses a common 1st person perspective to display it's turn
based battles. You can let the game fight for you in AUTO mode, or take the
control of your characters on your own. The game is tough, and can get even
more complicated because you don't really understand what you are doing
initially. But soon you will get a basic grasp of the fighting system, and
you will be able to survive better. This section was created to help you even
more, by providing you some useful tactics to beat the battles in the game.
.___________________.
| |
| GETTING STARTED |
|___________________|
First of all, in the beggining you will feel like you are not fighting at all
and that your characters do not obey your commends. That is partially correct,
because in the beggining, the game uses an Auto Fight system mode, that might
get handy in some boring parts but is very unreliable generally, and will lead
you to many untimely deaths if you keep it on. So the first thing that you
have to learn is how to turn off this unwanted feature.
To change the way your team fights in a battle, you have two options. If you
want the fast way to do it, simply press the button Y, while you are in
Dungeon Mode. This will open the Battle Position Sub-Menu. From there, place
all your characters in the lower position. This will turn the battle mode from
Auto to Manual. The other way to do it? Well, just enter the menus, select the
lower-right option (the 6th), go to the second page (2/2) and choose the first
option. This will also take you to the Battle Position Sub-Menu, but why won't
you do it the simple way?
Now, with that out of our way, let's concetrate on the fighting system itself
and how it works. It's basically a common turn-based fighting system. The
fastest character gets to attack first, and then the other attack in order.
You can do a physical attack, or cast an offensive or support spell. Also, you
may defend, use an item, or run.
In the beggining, you choose all your moves. That means that you have to
choose which to attack, if you want to cast a healing spell, etc. all without
knowing what moves the enemy will make. This is both good and bad. It's good
because it is not intense and you can take your time in each turn, but it's
also bad because when you are dealing with tough enemies, that inflict a lot
of HPs damage to your team, you have to basically "predict" who will be
attacked, and cast healing spells at random. It gets frustrating sometimes,
trust me.
Apart from that, there is not much strategy to be explained. If you are
accustomed with common RPGs, then Dragon Master Silk is as common as it can
get.
Now, in Exporation Mode, you are presented with a different perspective than
that used in most RPG games. You are simply watching the game through the eyes
of Silk and her friends. So it's a 1st person perspective, like the one used
in the Eye Of Beholder, Arcana, Ultima and many other RPG classics. Also the
game is basically a "Dungeon-Crawler", which means that you explore an endless
dungeon, in search of treasure, traps and ways to continue even further.
Some stuff that you have to bear in mind is that the game, though 3D, is very
limited in it's movement. It basically dates back 16-bit 3D gaming, where you
could only turn 90 degrees, then 90 degrees more, etc. So you can never really
"observe" your surroundings. If you are ever in doubt about something, you
should check your map. Also, scattered in the dungeons, there are Wall Faces.
These are basically what treasure boxes are for other RPG games. When you are
in front of a Wall Face, you can open it and either receive a reward, or if
you are unlucky, trigger a trap.
Finally, the most common obstacle in this game, apart from the walls off
course, is water. You will find many times, small water lakes to be blocking
your way. If they are large lakes of water, you cannot pass through them. But
if the water is only one square long, then you can jump over it if you run.
To run, simply press and hold the button B. The catch is that in order for the
jump to be performed, you have to be at least 3 squares away from the water,
meaning that you cannot jump over 1 square long water lakes in some parts of
the game, even though you could be able, if you had more space. So try to find
another way to go there!
This concludes the most basic information needed to play this game. Below is
another section, including some advanced techniques. I recommend playing a bit
of the game before coming back here for more.

| The First Steps |
|_ _|
\========================/
Writing an actual step to step walkthrough for a Dungeon RPG is more than
just hard. It's nearly impossible. This is why I will only give you some
detailed help in the beggining, but eventually, I will be pointing you out
only the crucial information about a floor. In the beggining of each floor,
I will be giving you the complete map of the floor for your reference. But
since this is the first floor, let's take it easy as I guide you through your
first venture in this scary place.
You begin in a dark, claustrophobic, corridor. This kind of setting will
pretty much follow you everywhere in the game, so better get used to it. Go
forward, through the straightforward path, until you reach a small water lake
blocking your way. A discussion between the heroines will kick off. Once it is
over, turn to the right and read the sign on the wall.
Now do some steps backwards, until you have a fair distance from the water
lake. Hold B and run towards the water lake. You will jump over it, and be on
the other side of it. You should use this tactic whenever you can, but beware
of certain traps. You might be able to go there, but sometimes, you are not
able to come back!
Now that you are on the other side, go forward and pass through the door.
You should be in a square room with two doors on your left and right, and one
passage in front of you. Save your game here. You can check how to save your
game by refering to PART 2. Now head to the left. Here you are likely to
encounter a battle or two, if you haven't already. I strongly recommend that
you fight all the battles that occur as you will need the experience. This
game gets tought very soon, and I actually recommend that you are at least
Level 2 in all your characters already, if you don't want to face some serious
problems not much later on.
Enter the first door that you can see. You will now be in a small room with
a strange face carved on a side of the wall. Go there. Press A, and the wall
will open, revealing you the Yellow Orb. As you can realise, you will be
searching for these wall faces throughout the whole game, as they will help
you proceed through the floors. Basically, each wall face holds a card, that
contains either an orb, or a key, or even a trap. You can follow this graph to
check what kind of rewards, or hazards, a face can hold. I generally recommend
that you save your game before opening any wall face. A Summon Evil card can
easily wipe your characters out if you are not ready for a tough fight!
____WALL FACES___________________________________________________________.
|#01| Orb (COllect them to proceed in the game) |
|#02| Key (Collect them to open locked doors) |
|#03| Summon Evil (Trap! You will face a tough battle!) |
| | |
| i | If a wall face had a useful item, then it won't be able to give you |
| | anything else. If it was a trap then it can be triggered an |
| | unlimited number of times. So be careful! |
\___|_____________________________________________________________________/
After you take the Yellow Orb, a discussion between your characters will
begin. After it's over you can leave the room, and continue further into the
corridor. In case you don't remember where to go, just turn right and head
past the small water lake. You will now find yet another small room with a
wall face. Don't open it. This is a trap. It will trigger a Summon Evil card.
Unless you are sure that you can face a tough battle, and traps WILL have
tough battles, it's better if you avoid it. Keep exploring all the corridor,
even though we are done from here. I strongly recommend that you explore
everything, as you will want to have uncovered as much of the map as possible.
Notice the water lake blocking your way on the very end of this corridor.
When you are done exploring, leave this corridor. You are now back in the
room with the four ways. One is leading back to the EXIT. You don't have to
leave yet, unless if you are really low on health. Instead go through the door
in front of you (this is the door that was on your right when you entered the
room in the first place). This is a very similar corridor, only inverted. Go
to the first door that you will find. Here is yet another wall face. Open it
to receive the Red Orb. Now leave the room.
Turn to your left, and continue through the corridor until you can turn left
and enter another small room through a door. You will find that it's empty,
but we need to explore as much of the map as possible! Now leave the room and
continue through the corridor. You will find yet another door leading to a
small room. Inside you will see a strange Green Portal. A discussion between
your characters will begin. Once they are done talking, leave the room. For
your reference, this portal will transport you to another place in the floor.
You will be using it very soon, but for now we need to explore the rest of the
corridor before proceeding through the portal.
Continue forward until you find a door on your left. Enter it. You will now
be in front of yet another wall face. Open it to reveal the Blue Orb. Explore
the room to complete your map, as always, and head deeper into the corridor.
You will reach a door in the end. Go through it and then enter the next door
on sight. You will now be in a very small room with a wall face. This will
contain a Wild Turkey. This is used to restore your HP. Now head back,
exploring all the inches of the map on your way. Enter the room with the
Green Portal and go through it.
You will now be in a room on the opposite side of the map. You are actually
past the water lake that was blocking your way on the left hand corridor. Now
this is a good time to get accustomed with your surroundings. See that map on
the top left of your screen? All the orange blocks are those that you have
already uncovered. They are parts of the map that you have been to. The
flashing arrow in the middle of the box is your current position, and the
direction the arrow is facing, is the direction you are looking at. So, when
the arrow is looking forward, it means you are heading North, etc. From here,
heading West will take you to the water lake that was blocking your way. You
should go there to uncover your map a little bit more. Now return back and
proceed through the corridor, entering any door you will see. The first door
has a wall face which contains a Key, that opens your way a bit deeper from
here. The other door leads to a room that looks like it's empty. It's not.
From where you enter, check the South-West corner. You should get past it and
enter another small room which contains a treasure. Once you leave the floor
through the EXIT, you can exchange this treasure for lots of gold!
Use the R button to open your map. Check your current position. Notice the
similarity between this corridor and the right hand corridor? That's just to
give you a hint of how you should be searching for treasures and hidden paths.
Now head back through the Green Portal, and get back to the room with the 4
directions. You don't have to go straight yet. Instead, head back to the start
and leave the dungeon by going back to the EXIT, found in the Southernmost
part of the map. You will now be transported back to the overground, to take
some rest, buy some items, and save your game.
_________FLOOR 1-b__________.
| |
| Getting Ready |
|_ _|
\========================/
Even though we avoided the Set-Up Mode when we initially begun the game, it's
time to learn some stuff about it now. This is where you will tinker with your
team and buy stuff, amongst other things. It's a very useful part of the game,
and think of it as a common city in an RPG. You are here to rest, buy weapons
and armor, and get ready for more adventure.
You should refer to PART 2 for translation of the Set-Up Mode menus. Anyway,
now that we are here, you should rest using the very first option. The price
that you will be paying depends on the amount of damage your team sustained in
the Dungeon Mode. After you are done resting, go to the Item Shop and purchase
the Floor 1 Map, found in the last place of the second page of the Item Shop's
inventory. It will cost you 500 Gold, but it's worth the asking price, as you
will know all of the 1st Floor. Additionally you may wish to buy some weapons
or get some armor from the Weapon Store, but to be honest, I don't think that
it is that important yet, as the game is still quite easy. We are going to buy
equipment the next time we return!
Once you are ready, save your game again, and get ready to venture deeper in
the dungeon. Things will start getting more difficult from now on, so be very
careful!
_________FLOOR 1-c__________.
| |
| Through The Passage |
|_ _|
\========================/
I wanted you have a good understanding of how the game exploration works.
From now on, I will be less informative, and I will expect you to be able to
work your way through the floors.
Head to the North and to the room with the 4 directions. We have already been
to the corridors on the left and right, so we should now proceed through the
passage right in front of us. So take a brave step and head to the large open
area that the next room is.
Take a good look at your surroundings. To the North-West is the Boss Lair,
but you need all the first four orbs to go past it's door. So we have to go to
the East. When you first reach a door leading South, enter it and follow the
trail. Seach every room on your way, and you shuld end up with yet another orb
in your inventory. It's the Green Orb.
You should have 4 orbs by now, Yellow, Red, Blue and Green. That means that
the door to the Boss is finally open. But you can keep exploring all the
area for stuff that you might have missed. I recommend doing some fights until
you get your characters to be at least 6 LV each. Otherwise the Boss will wipe
you out with a few hits.
When you are ready, take the path to the Boss. Keep following the trail and
jumping over the water lakes until you reach a door. There will be yet another
conversation between your characters before you enter. I suggest that you save
your game before entering that door. This Boss is tough, and I mean it.
~~~~~~~~~BOSS 1~~~~~~~~~~~~~.
! !
! Big Orc !
!_ _!
\========================/
Enter the door and a battle will commence. The Big Orc does not have any
interesting attack patterns or moves. He will simply brutally attack twice per
turn one of your characters. He can do some heavy damage, from 30 to 60 HP per
hit, which means that he can do as much as 100 HP to a single character if you
are unlucky!
Before we start, set your team to manual mode, if you haven't yet done so. I
suggest that you play with manual mode from now on, as the automatic mode is a
bit stubborn. Having control of everything is always better, isn't it? If you
are bored to check the rest of the guide to find how to switch to manual
battle mode for your characters, simply press Y, which will open the Battle
Position Sub-Menu. From there, move all your characters to the lowest option.
Once you are done with that, we are ready to fight. Have your two strongest
characters physically attack, while the others heal and cast spells according
to the situation. Normally, Silk (Brown) and Aka (Red) are the strongest in
the team, while Ao (Blue) and Ki (Yellow) are better for support actions.
Be informed that you should use offensive magic with Ao, only if your team is
in great condition. Otherwise you should let her cast healing magic as well.
Ki should be casting healing magic all the time, even if that means that you
have to cast healing spells randomly! Do so, as this gives you a 1/4 chance to
neutralise the Boss' attack.
Also, sometimes, the Boss gathers strength and loses a turn. That usually
means that whoever he hits next round, is doomed for sure. Pray that the blow
will not be strong enough to be lethal, and you might be lucky to survive.
All in all, this is a very difficult battle for the first Boss in the game,
so if you are having troubles, you can try leveling up your characters a bit
more before trying again.
When you defeat him, you can go to the back of the Boss Lair and take open
the Wall Face for a Key. This Key will open your way further in the game.
_________FLOOR 1-d__________.
| |
| A Strange Meeting |
|_ _|
\========================/
Return back. While you are still in near the Boss Lair, you will find a small
passage going South, but it ends to a water lake. See that piece of land on
the other side? You can go there. Jump over the water like, by running, and
you will find a treasure if you look to the West. Return back by jumping on
the main track. The only way to return is through the small gap to the West,
right next to where the treasure was.
Now head to the room with the four exits. You can go back, to sleep and heal
your wounds, save your game, and then return again here. Also, while you are
there, purchase 2 Swords +8 for 400 Gold each, and 4 Shields +8 for 350 each.
Equip all your characters with the Shields, and give the new swords to Silk
and Ao. Aka has a good weapon already so she doesn't need it.
When you are back, take the route to the East, and keep going until you get
past the door with the sign on the right. You should be in a small room with
only on exit to the South. Before you enter the only door, Save your game.
Now get ready for a nice FMV and a very easy and funny battle!
~~~~~~~~~BOSS 2~~~~~~~~~~~~~.
! !
! Big Boobs !
!_ _!
\========================/
Now that's an easy battle. Don't worry about anything. Her attacks are very
weak, so you will be able to breeze through this. I don't really have any
strategy to recommend here. Just keep attacking and she will be defeated very
soon.
Once you defeat her, take a look at your surroundings. You are in a circular
room, with exits in all the four directions of the horizon. The North exit is
the one you came from. To the West is a treasure, which I suggest you get
right now. To the South is the way downstairs to Floor 2, and where we will go
later in the game to proceed even further. For now though, you are going to
take the East door.

Remember the room you are now in. To the North is a locked door, that you
will open later in the game. Now, head straight in front of you, to the East.
Follow the trail leading to the South, and go past the door there. You will
end up in a small room with two doors. You will take both of them, do not
worry. But first go through the far East one. Follow the trail North, and you
will find a Wall Face. Open it for your reward: Yet another Yellow Orb. Now
you have two of them.
In the same way, go to the other door and you will find the Blue Orb. As you
can see, there are plenty of orbs to find from each colour in the game. Now,
do NOT return South. Instead turn around and inspect the floor. You will see
a differently coloured square. That's a secret passage to the big room to the
West. There are lots of secret passages in the game, so get used to that! Go
through the wall to reach the big room. To the far north, there are two small
entrances. The one to the right contains a Wall Face with yet another Red Orb,
while the one to the left leads to another Green Teleport, which takes you
South of here, in a parrallel route to the one that leads downstairs, in the
circular room. You can take this teleport if you wish, but it is of no use yet
to you.
Instead of entering the teleport, you have two better options. One is to
position yourself one-two squares before the door to the West, and start
running which will get you past the water lake and to a treasure. You the same
tactic to return. The other is really up to you in this point, as there are
not any rewards to be gained apart from some treasures and battle experience,
and involves heading to the Eastern room, and jumping past the water lake, to
get to the other side of the map. There, a long and tiring exploration can
begin, which will mostly result in hard battles, and lots of experience points
for your characters. I won't put any guide for this part though, as it does
not revolve around the crucial stuff needed to finish this game, and I don't
want to get into so much detail. You see, this game has a lot of huge places,
and if I explained each one to you, this guide would never end.
When you are done exploring and leveling up, go back home to get some rest,
and purchase some new stuff. I recommend getting the best equipment that you
find appropriate for your characters. Remember that generally, Silk and Aka
should be represent the core of your physical attacks, and Ao and Ki should
assist with magic. In this point of the game, good defense is more important
than good offense, so I recommend that you get the better shields, rather than
waste Gold on weapons. So, after you equip your team accordingly return to
the circular room where you defeated the second Boss. We are now ready to go
downstairs to the second floor. I generally recommend that you are at least
9 LV before you go downstairs though.
