                              About the Game
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Alpine Ski is an arcade game that was released in 1981. It was developed and
published by Taito. It is a 1 or 2-player game.

                              Playing the Game
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
—————————
Objective
—————————
The goal of the game is to collect points, which are always found in-between
objects. You will begin with 2 minutes and 30 seconds - once time runs out,
it's game over. For certain amounts of score (starting with 10,000), you
will gain an extra 2:30 to your time. You won't see the extra time until your
previous time has hit 0:00:00.

——————
Levels
——————
The game is divided into three levels. The first level has you going between
rocks and trees to get score, while dodging people on snow mobiles and other
skiers. The second level has you going between flags while dodging the same
obstacles. The third level is a bonus level - you don't lose time playing it.
Once you have finished the third level, you begin at the first level again.
Play continues until you run out of time.

—————————
Obstacles
—————————
Rocks & Trees are basic obstacles in your way. The size of trees varies.
Skiers will move slow, and in an unpredictable way.
People on snow mobiles will move fast, and often back and forth.

If you know how to avoid all of the possible sets of obstacles, you can
gain lots of score by holding the accelerate button. Here are the patterns
of obstacles you will face:

================================================================
O = Obstacle (Tree or Rock)
P = Possible Obstacle (At least one of the possible ones occurs)
I = Ice (Pushed more to the left or right randomly)
F = Flag

Level One
~~~~~~~~~
Basic Pattern (100 - 300 points)
-------------
This one is quite easy to avoid; just make sure not to stay too far to the left
or right. The obstacles may sometimes be at an angle.
Basic Pattern 2 (500 - 1,000 points)
---------------
This is more challenging than the first. The bottom is blocked off in an
attempt to get you to hit an obstacle by going in too early, or too late.
This is a little hard, but should not pose much of a problem.
------------
This is always found on the furthermost left or right side.
Icy Pattern (200 - 300 points)
-----------
This is a challenging pattern. The ice is in place to make you crash
into the obstacles.
Icy Pattern 2 (500 - 1,000 points)
-----------
This is a little more challenging that the previous pattern. An obstacle
will block the bottom, meaning you will have to come from the sides (which
is quite dangerous).
Icy Pattern 3 (1,500 points)
-------------
This pattern relies you to be on a certain side. If you are on the wrong side,
there is no chance you will get this.
This is the easiest pattern.
Side-to-Side Pattern (100 - 300 points)
--------------------
This isn't very challenging - once you do this pattern a few times, it'll
become quite easy. This pattern usually occurs around five times in a row.
Side-to-Side Pattern 2 (100 - 300 points)
This is a little more challenging, but still easy to master. Occurs around
five times in a row while alternating sides.
Side-to-Side Pattern 3 (500 points)
----------------------
The most challenging side-to-side pattern. This one attempts to get you hit
while trying to avoid the flags.
One of the most challenging patterns. Hitting the flags is a lot better than
hitting the obstacles, so never try to go too early.
———————
Control
———————
To start playing, press the accelerate button. Holding the accelerate button
will cause you to move extremely fast. If you don't hold the accelerate button,
you will constantly gain one point of score. While holding the accelerate
button, you will gain hundreds of points quickly. Turning slows you down,
which can be helpful for quick dodges. You can also tap a side to quickly turn
your skier left or right, in case you are close to hitting something, or are
about to just miss some score. Another way to boost your speed is by tapping
left or right quickly, but there isn't really a use for this.
————
Time
————
The whole game is a battle against the clock. When time runs out, you will
get Game Over. You won't be able to continue with the same score by getting
more credits - you will have to start all over. For every level you complete,
you will gain 20 seconds. When you hit an obstacle, the time will still get
lower until you stop moving. Once you stop moving, you will lose 10 seconds.
—————————————————————
Maximizing Your Score
—————————————————————
Depending on how well you know the game, you may or may not want to hold the
accelerate button. If you can hold it down and get points while not running
into any obstacles, you will gain massive amounts of score. Low amounts of
points (100, 200) are easy to get, while high amounts of points (1,000, 1,500)
are hard to get, and are usually in front of a patch of ice. A patch of ice
will cause you to move very quickly, with little ability to turn. To get
the highest amount of score, you will need to know how to play with the
accelerate button held down.
