Hello. So this is my first guide EVER. I've thought about writing a few before
however I never really had the time (A Link to the Past... I am SORRY!!!). But
now I though I would share what I usually do in games for myself anyway. Make
lists of things that I only use once!
I decided to make a guide for pickpocketing because I think this is one of the
most skipped aspects of Star Ocean 2. This game is my favourite game of all
time. Final Fantasy 6 coming in at a close second (I seem to like games where
whole planets get destroyed). And because this is my favourite game, I have
played it many, many, many, many times through. I would call myself an expert
though a bit rusty (I've taken a hiatus from gaming too much, with work and
school and the like). But I don't pretend to know everything, cause I don't. I
just know A LOT about this game. Because this is my favourite game, and I've
been with gamefaqs for many years I believe that I should give something back.
And this is what I am going to give. ^-^
Yes, I know some if the characters are missing, the PA's haven't been filled
and some of the story spaces are still empty, but I'm trying to get this guide
out, cause it's mostly done, and it can help a lot of people in the meantime
while I finish up these last tid-bits.

I'm going to need huge input from other to complete the PA sections of this
guide. It's a TON of work to get every PA with every character.

The first question one should always answer when writing 50 pages on something
is define and explain what 'IT' is. So...
What is 'pickpocketing'?
Pickpocketing is the act of 'lifting' an item or money off of another person
(or in some cases, animals). In Star Ocean: Second Evolution pickpocketing is a
skill that allows you to steal items from virtually EVERY NPC and PC in the
game. This makes pickpocketing a very valuable tool that can give you an edge
in certain parts of the story. For example getting the 'Sprite's Bracelet'
(formally named 'Mischief'), or the Goodie Box early in the game.
Acquiring and using the skill of pickpocketing can be a side quest in itself
if you decide to do it early enough in the game.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Pokerface Skill (Sense 1)
- Available at: Krosse City, Kurik, The Centrolopis of Nede
2. Courage Skill (Sense 2)
- Available at: Harley, Hilton, North City
3. Thief's Glove or Magician's Glove (For higher success rate)
- Available at: Harley (Antique Shop 'The Sunken Vessel'), and others,
just haven't listed them out, input would be helpful here, plz. ^-^
4. MUST have the Nimble Fingers talent. To check this go to the Status screen
for the character you want to use to pickpocket (it's best to use the main
character, so you can pickpocket during PA, more on that later), and press
the down arrow key twice. Nimble Fingers is located as the second from the
top on the left side under 'Talents', above Composition, below Originality
and to the left of Design Sense. If you can see it, the character has it.
If there is nothing there, this character CAN NOT successfully pickpocket.
There is a way to 'unlock' this hidden talent, more on this later.
NOW WHAT DO I DO?
Once you have all four of these things you must do two more things:
1. Use skill points to achieve at least one (1) level in Pokerface and one (1)
level in Courage. I'm not going to go into detail about the skill system
in this guide.
2. Equip the Thief's Glove or Magician's Glove in an ACCESSORY slot. That's one
of the two lowest spots in the equipment menu for a character.
With those two points met you can now pickpocket various players thought the
game. However, your success rate will be very low.
To increase your success rate for pickpocketing you can do two things:
1. Increase the level of the Pokerface or Courage skills. This will make a huge
difference in the chance you have to steal something.
2. Obtain the Magician's Glove, from the Machinist in the Item Creation Menu,
or by pickpocketing it from a few select few. I didn't notice a huge
change with getting this instead of the Thief's Glove, maybe it's just me.
If anyone knows the mechanics behind pickpocketing, I would be happy to
post them here and give you credit. ^-^
