Foreword and Introduction

Guide Ver 1.1

This guide is intended to be a high-level general FAQ and translation guide for
the Japanese version of Valkyria Chronicles 3 and intends to provide
assistance in regards to gameplay and mission related concepts. This guide
assumes some previous knowledge of Valkyria Chronicles 1/2 and is meant to be
an accompaniment to the excellent potential guide from Kururu, and the
spreadsheet posted by Sylphier.

As of this time, the guide will focus on the base game and will possibly
receive future updates depending on DLCs/unlocks as revealed.

Updated with Tank Option parts translations and effects. Added japanese
characters to some sections for comparison.

If there are any corrections, clarifications or suggestions please feel free
to email me.

As a final note, some sections might contain non-specific spoilers.

Unlike the previous VCs, the experience you gain does not translate directly
into improving a certain class. In VC3, you spend these points to improve
the entire squads statistics, as well as obtain new orders.

In Chapter 11, you will be able to assign another leader who will provide an

These are the different classes and their variants. To obtain a higher variant
of a class, you must use the character to perform positive actions in
missions such as killing enemies and capturing camps. All variants gain
increased stats from its lower or base variants but in addition some variants
are able to use equipment that its lower or base variants are unable to use
even if you have acquired them.

Some changes from previous VC games:
All units use 1 CP, even tanks.
Enemy Damage and Interception fire are greatly increased in damage
Engineers can revive allied troops at base level and at range
Downed units if touched by an allied unit can be used after that turn, while
suppressed units are usable after the mission
Ace Drops cannot be farmed; you will only receive one of each type of captured
weapons.
Aces can drop different items; story aces will only drop one of their two
confirmed drops.
You may repeat the free missions to get both drops of the ace in that mission.

a. Special Commands .......................... [COM01]

some characters will be able to do special actions by using up SP points that
are allocated to you at the start of the mission. Unlike CP, these are not
replenished. They are activated by pressing triangle when selecting the
appropriate unit and then selecting the ability. Selecting this command will
refill HP and AP of the character, but will not reset the AP penalty.

This choice has 1CP and 1SP cost.

There are three distinct abilities that can be used:

Direct Command (直接指揮) - Kurt

This command allows Kurt to select upto 2 additional allies by going close to
them and pressing O when the command appears on screen. They will follow Kurt
to the best of their ability and will also participate in a team attack with
him,
even if it is a class that normally does not participate in team attacks
(eg. Lancer, Sniper). This does not deplete the ally's AP; as such this command
can be valuable in getting high-value units with low AP closer to their targets.
Be aware, Ladders and Sandbags will generally prevent the units from following
Kurt beyond those points.

open Fire (武装解放) - Imca

This command functions like a multi-lock attack, which does a fixed amount of
damage to all targets within the field of vision of Imca. Generally the attack
is enough to kill scouts and snipers and light APCs, but will only damage
heavier armored vehicles and beefier classes. This attack is affected by
obstacles such as walls, fences, allied units so care must be taken before
activating it. If used properly, this can be a very powerful crowd control
measure for certain situations.

Valkyria (ヴァルキュリア) - Riela, Aliasse (unlockable) , Alicia (post game)

This command makes the affected unit transform into a Valkyria, giving her
invulnerability and a very powerful and accurate single shot attack. A very
powerful tactical ability, but with some limitations. First, enemies can still
dodge attacks, so if the heavy attack misses, you will have basically wasted
the SP, especially if it was to capture a base. Secondly, valkyria cannot take
cover positions after their turn, so potentially they will be exposed if they
are not used again if enemies are close by. Third, in later missions, some
enemies guarding bases will take more than 1 shot of a Valkyria Lance to take
out, necessitating additional effort in utilizing the ability.
