Welcome to my first ever FAQ. In this guide, I will map out all the Long Sword
and Great Sword paths. I will start with the very basic Long Sword and
Great Sword and work my way to the very end of the line. I will include the
materials needed to create each weapon. There are multiple ways to getting
a single weapon, so, I will also include these ways in a seperate section.

|Long Sword and Great Sword introduction|
O=======================================O

Long Swords and Great Swords. Quite possibly the most used weapons in the game.
Long Swords are quick and powerful, and if used right, can be extremly useful.
Great Swords are much slower, but the damage they produce is greater. These two
weapon types are used very frequently. Maybe it's the massive damage, or the
fact you can look like Cloud and Sephiroth. Nonetheless, they are my favorite
weapon types.

For Long Sword:

Triangle - Vertical slice; if it is the first attack of your combo, you can
press triangle again to do another Vertical slice.  You can also do this
with the unsheathe attack.

Circle - Stab; after you stab, you can press Triangle to do a gut ripper
and then Triangle again for a vertical slice.  This can be repeated for as long
as you want.

Triangle + Circle - Jump back and slash.

R - Spirit Combo; if your bar is full, you can link together a devastating
combo.

Full R combo:  R - > Triangle -> R -> Triangle -> R

For Great Sword:

Triangle - Vertical Swing(Hold down to charge, charges 3 times)

Circle - Horizontal slash

Triangle + Circle - Upswing (best)

R - Block; remember, you also lose sharpness when you block, so don't do it as
much.

Some tips I'd like to give with the Great Sword, charging up an attack before a
wyvern lands, like a Rathalos, is a very good idea. Upswinging is powerful,
but you should be cautious in multiplayer. No one likes to get upswinged.

Dodge roll, a lot. Don't walk around with your greatsword out.

Block if you are in close range and you think you will be hit soon rather then
trying to roll out.

Wait for an opening in an attack, the Great Sword is very, very slow. You don't
want to get ravaged after every swing.

Hit the head fast, and roll out faster.

For Long Swords,

Use the spirit charge attack only when you're sure you won't be hit, at least
not for awhile. You might not want to do the full combo everytime.

Attack a couple times, then roll away, you will be hit if you linger.

It's ok to run around with it unsheathed, but I always suggest to have it
sheathed in case you have to do the "jump".

The best time to use the spirit charge is when a monster is stunned, or
fallen over.

|Why Great Swords and Long Swords stink|
O======================================O

Great Swords and Long Swords aren't for everyone, and here's why.

Ok, so you have your Buster Sword, you went on a quest to kill Yian Kut-ku
and failed. Why? Contrary to what most people say, it takes some skill to use
these two weapon types to their fullest. Here's the deal, you might have a
giant blade, but it doesn't do as much damage as you hope. Here are my main
concerns

Great Sword - Blocking takes a chunk out of sharpness.
           - You have to walk slowly with it unsheathed.
           - You can only get in a couple attacks at the most before having to
             flee.
           - Attacks take awhile to occur.
           - When you do strike, there is a little "lag" type thing that slows
             it further.
           - You can interupt other players with your attacks.
           - Bounces more than you can possibly imagine.

Long Sword - Faster but much less power than a greatsword.
          - No block.
          - Same "lag" issue, though occurs less frequently.
          - Spirit Charge is useful, but it can get you in a bad situation.
          - Loses sharpness quicker than a greatsword.
          - Bounces often, not as much as greatswords, though.

Here, I'll tell you which weapons I find to be the best, or very useful.

True Devil Slicer
This is best thunder longsword in the game. It has good amount of raw damage as
well. The sharpness is very good, with a good amount of blue. I use this baby
frequently. It's very good against Daiymo and Shogun, as well as Gold Rathian
and Silver Rathalos.

===============================================================================

Blango Destructor
Best ice elemental longsword. It has more raw than True Devil Slicer, but less
sharpness. For its element, it is the best you can get, so it would be a
terrible waste not to get. Useful for Rajang, and that's important.

Frost Ripper
Best water elemental longsword. More attack than even Blango Destructor, but
even less sharpness. Little blue make sit only useful for a bit. But it is the
bestyou can get. Useful for Blos'

Smolder Dragonsword
Wah wa we wah. Now this is the best overall, in my opinion. You can use this on
any dragon in the game, which is like... half of the monsters. It's very
powerful, very sharp. If you don't work for this, something is wrong.

Scythe of Menace
Technically the Wyvern Blade "Holly" is a better longsword for poison, but, who
doesn't want a scythe?! Joking aside, it's infintely easier to create. You'll
have nightmares trying to get a Rathian Ruby. So I think this weapon is a
great alternative.

Divine Slasher
Best raw damage longsword in the game, I believe. It's great for anything.
Very sharp as well. Though, it is difficult to make...

Khezu Shock Blade
Best thunder elemental greatsword. This thing makes a "vroom" sound each time
you swing. I love it! It has great attack power and sharpness to boot.

Siegmund
Best raw greatsword. Like Divine Slasher, useful for every situation.

===============================================================================

Shiny Rathalos Sword
Best fire elemental greatsword. It's kinda difficult to make but worth it for
its element. Good sharpness and raw, the elemental itself is only useful for a
handful of monsters.

Wyvern Blade "Maple"
This is the best fire longsword. Like Shiny Rathalos Sword, useful for only a
handful of wyverns but the best for its element.

Cat's King
Honestly, I wouldn't bother with it. But I suppose it's a novelity weapon. It's
the best, or maybe only, stun element greatsword.

Plesioth Azureblade
The best water elemental greatsword. Useful for many monsters. Good sharpness
and raw make this worth getting.

"White Fatalis Greatsword"
I don't know how to get this yet, but I have been informed it is the best
dragon greatsword.

I'll probably find more weapons to put on this list in the near future.

|Weapons I dislike|

Before I list any weapons. I highly suggest always going for more raw than
element when given the choice between multiple weapons. Raw does more damage.

Tigrex Greatsword
Horrible weapon, it has decent raw and sharpness. But there are so much better.
the -30% affinity is a pain, lowering your damage input.

Tigrex Katana
The longsword version, and just as horrible. Suffers the same problem as the
greatsword.

===============================================================================

Eternal Eradicator
The materials needed are very difficult. In the end your left with a lot of
dragon element and garbage raw. Get this as a novelity.

Rathalos Firesword
I almost couldn't believe the weapon line ended there. It's horrible. Still
in green and not even that much raw. Don't bother with it at all.

Sieglinde
Raw damage is all it has. Personally, the defense bonus is nothing. Don't
bother with this unless you're collecting.

Sentoryu Wolf
Horrible weapon. Nothing but raw power and sharpness, which isn't that much.
I didn't even bother getting this as a novelity. It's that bad.
