A Brief Explanation About Ruststones/Ancient Stones
O===================================================O

These elusive stones can make some of the most powerful weapons in the game
against the Elder Dragons. They require a lot of effort to obtain since the
process is some what random. A Ruststone is the weaker of the two stones and
will give you a Rare-1 weapon and the Ancient Stone is the strongest and will
give you a Rare-6 weapon. There are two versions of each weapon for
Greatswords, Hammers, Lances, Light Bowguns and one for the Sword and Shield
and Dual Swords. Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
didn't receive any additional weapons so there aren't Gun Lance, Hunting
Horn, Heavy Bowgun, Long Sword or Bow variations.

Once you've unlocked the 4 star Elder Quests you have access to The Volcano.
Head to areas 6 and 8 and start mining and you should hopefully find a
Ruststone/Ancient Stone. Area 6 has two mining spots and Area 8 has three so
be on the look out for the giant cracks in the wall. The stone you find will
be random and you may find the same one multiple times.

Recommended Armour Sets

Leather Armour (Blademaster)

You should only use this set if you don't have the Melahoa Armour. Each piece
of this set can be bought from the Felyne armour crafting shop for 300z. You
can also make it using the following materials;

Getting a Rusted or Ancient Weapon
O==================================O

MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR GAME BEFORE EVERY ATTEMPT SINCE THE PROCESS IS
SOMEWHAT RANDOM. THIS IS ALSO VERY TIME CONSUMING.

When you finally have a Ruststone/Ancient Stone you can go to the weapon
crafting shop and you'll see ?????? at the end of the list for the particular
weapon you've found. A Ruststone/Ancient Stone must be polished to become a
weapon and will cost 1,000z. If you don't the weapon you wanted (see the
quick reference guide below) you'll have do any quest including the training
school and try again. The quickest and easiest way is to select a gathering
quest, pick up the Paw Pass Ticket and you're done in about 10 seconds.

The game has a random pre-set number which determines if you get the weapon
or not. Each time you do a quest, this number will change and you'll be one
step closer to your weapon. This is a very slow, boring and tedious process
and could take anywhere up to an hour of constant gathering quests to
complete. Each time you make a Rusted/Ancient Weapon the random pre-set
number will change again.

The most advantageous way of doing this is to use multiple Ruststones/Ancient
Stones. For example if you wanted the Worn Greatsword, you could use all your
other Ruststones/Ancient Stones before you finally use the Ancient Flatstone.
There is no limit on how many of the same stone you can have so, the more you
have, the easier it is to do.
