Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam VS Gundam is the newest entry into Bandai's Gundam
VS series. Unlike past VS titles, Gundam VS Gundam (hereby abbreviated to GvG),
covers all of the animated Gundam series for the exception of SD Gundam, Gundam
Wing: Endless Waltz and Gundam SEED CE73: Stargazer. This guide will focus on
the gameplay basics, as well as unit move sets and abilities in the game.

3b. Basic Gameplay [003b]
------------------------------------------
The premise of the VS series is to bring your opponents' battle gauge from
6000 down to zero. Similiarly, if your own battle gauge is brought down to
zero, you will get a Game Over. So how do one decrease the opponents'
battle gauge? You do so by defeating enemies. Each unit is associated with
a cost, ie. Nu Gundam has a cost of 3000GP. Once the unit is defeated, the
cost of the unit will be subtracted from the battle gauge. More will be covered
in the Battle Gauge System section.
You are free to take whatever means to defeat the enemies, whether it be using
range attacks or melee attacks. Do note that computer opponents usually have
lower cost than the standard for the unit.

3c. On Screen Visibles [003c]
------------------------------------------
1) Radar: This is located on the upper right corner of your screen. The yellow
line represents the boundary of the map. Your own unit is represented
by a blue arrow. Enemies are indicated with red dots, and your allies
are represented with green dots.
2) Timer: This can be found beside the Radar. When playing against computers,
you will lose if the timer runs out. When playing against human
players, both teams would lose when the time runs out.
3) Battle Gauge: This is located on the upper left corner of your screen. Each
bar is composed of 6000GP, and your job is to bring the
opponents' gauge down to 0 before the timer runs out. The
green bar represents your own Battle Gauge, and the red bar
represents your opponents'.
4) G-Gauge: This is located beneath the Battle Gauge. When the gauge is full,
you may press the CPU Command button twice to activate G-Crossover.
Which is a map attack based on the series your unit, as well as
your ally is in. More will be covered in the G-Crossover section.
5) HP Counter: This can be found near the bottom left corner of your screen,
right above your Character's name.
6) CPU Command: If you happen to have a CPU partner, the command for them would
be shown above the HP Counter. The commands for CPU are Normal,
Assault and Evade.
7) Boost Gauge: This can be found on the bottom middle of your screen. This
gauge shows how much boost you have left. While the boost guage
is empty, you will not be able to move until you land. The
boost gauge will recover once your unit hits the ground.
8) Weapons: These are located on the right side of your screen. The very top
weapon is your mobile assist. The rest represents various weaponary
your unit have.
9) Target Lock: The target that you are locked on to will be shown with a
circle. When you and your ally happened to be targetting the
same target, two lines will appear outside the circle. A green
lock means your target is out of your unit's effective range.
You can still attack the target at green lock range, just that
your weapons won't track as much as red lock. A red lock means
your target is within your unit's effective range. A yellow
lock means your target is downed, and you can't attack it.
Note that when your target is above you, your target becomes
"Out of Camera".
10) Warning Arrows: Whenever you are locked on by an enemy, there would be a
yellow arrow appearing on the sides of the screen telling
you that you have been locked on. The location of the arrow
tells you where the enemy is located. When the arrow turns
red and starts flashing, it means an attack is coming from
that direction.

Do note that some units may not have attacks associated with the command. For
Example, GX doesn't have anything assigned to its Special Melee.
Controls:
---------
By default, the control scheme is the following:
Square: Main Weapon
Triangle: Melee
X: Jump
Circle: Search
L: CPU Command
R: Subweapon
Select: Mobile Assist
As you can see, the PSP is unable to map all the actions to the buttons, so you
will have to use combinations of the buttons to use some commands. Of course,
the control scheme can be changed to your liking.
Actions:
--------
1) Walking: You can move your unit in any direction by using the D-Pad or the
Analog Nub. Some units hover instead of walk, but they are the same
thing. Walking does not consume any boost.
2) Step: You can step by double tapping any direction, and your unit will
quickly dash to the corresponding direction. You may step both on the
ground and in air. However, do note that stepping in the air gives you
a bigger delay after the step. You can control the length of the step
by holding the direction key. Performing a step consumes a bit of your
boost gauge, so manage your boost well. Of course, you may not step
when your boost gauge is empty.
3) Boost Dash (BD): You can boost dash by double tapping the Jump button. Your
unit will be boosting faster compared to stepping. However,
this consumes more of your boost gauge. To maintain your
BD, simply hold the direction or the jump button. Do note
that some units have a different BD method while on ground
and in the air. eg: God Gundam runs on the ground as its
ground BD.
4) Transform: Some units have the ability to transform. (eg. Zeta Gundam) To
transform, hold the jump button and double tap a direction. You
can maintain the transformation if you hold a direction or the
jump butto. You can ascend if you hold the jump button in MA mode
again. Do note that units that require a shield to transform can
still transform even if the shield is destroyed.
5) Shield Guard: Most units with a physical shield will have the ability to
auto-block when an attack hits the shield. After taking a
certain amount of damage, the physical shield will fall off
and the unit cannot block anymore. There are some exceptions,
however. These exceptions are: GP02A, Gundam X, Destiny. They
can manually block by inputing down+melee.
Units with beam shields have the ability to manually block by
inputing down+melee, but they cannot auto-block like physical
shields. Unlike physical shields, beam shields cannot be
destroyed.
Another note, the shield CANNOT block melee attacks in GvG.
6) Flip: After being downed by the opponent, you may input a direction and have
your unit flip to recover in that direction. If you don't press any
buttons, your unit will stand up eventually.
7) Flip Recover: When your unit is hit and sent flying, you may flip recover by
pressing any of the attack buttons or the jump button. This
can be done as long as you are not downed. Do note that flip
recovering will let your unit regain some boost.
8) Battou: Battou means unshealthing (a blade). In GvG's case, it is when your
unit pulls out their melee weapons. This can only be done pressing
the melee button while your unit is completely outside of its melee
range. If not, your unit will immediate perform a melee attack on
the target.
Note that not all units can battou, units like V2 have no such
animation.
9) Neutral Melee: This melee attack is performed by simplying pressing the
melee button when you are not stepping. Most units have
different melee attacks while on ground or in air.
10) Step Melee: This melee attack is performed by simply pressing the melee
button during, or right after stepping. Most units have
different melee attacks while on ground or in air.
11) BD Melee: This melee attack is performed by simply pressing the melee
button during BD.
12) Charge Shot (CS): Done by holding the corresponding button (a or b) until
the weapon bar flashes MAX, then releasing it. Note that
not all units have a CS.

3e. Arcade Shorthands/Terms [003e]
------------------------------------------
Arcade Shorthands
-----------------
I will use arcade shorthands in this FAQ to represent various commands/attacks
in the game, as they are much easier to write. So please read them over before
reading the FAQ, or ask any question on the boards.
2 = Down
4 = Left
6 = Right
8 = Up
a = Main Weapon
b = Melee
c = Jump
cc = Boost Dash (BD)
d = Search
CSa = Charge Shot (Main Weapon)
CSb = Charge Shot (Melee)
ab = Sub Weapon
ac = Special Shooting

Grd <command> = Ground only, you may only execute the command when both your
unit and your target is on the ground.
Air <command> = Air only, you may only execute the command when either your
unit or your target is in the air.
MA a = Main weapon in MA mode
MA b = Melee in MA mode (unless mentioned otherwise, MA b is the same as nb)
GCO = G-Crossover
Examples:

There are also a combination of input for combos, let me give an example:
Grd nb>b>8b>(*)b
The above command is implying that you should execute Ground Neutral Melee,
then press the melee button, followed by up+melee button. The (*)b implies that
you can mash the b button afterwards. (Usually means you can increase the dmg
by mashing the button) These types of input are called originations, basically
combos set by the developer.
Terms:
------
Quick Charge (QC): QC means firing a CS right after your normal attack.
Basically, if you want to QC a CSa, fire a CS right after
using your main weapon. Same for CSb, of course. This can be
done by holding down the button until the charge is 80~90%
full, release the button to fire the weapon, then quickly
hold the button down again to charge it to 100% and release
it. What happens is that you will fire the weapon, and then
immediately follow up by your charge shot.
Out of angle shooting: When you try to fire your weapon while your unit is out
of its shooting angle, your unit will have extra lag
when you fire the weapon. All units have a different
outside of angle shooting animation. For example, F91
flips if it fires out of angle.
Draining: Some attacks can will the target standing instead of send them off
flying. When a player does this on purpose, it is considered to be
draining. For example: Freedom uses the first nb hit, then SEEDs to
his bc. The bc leaves the enemy stunned, but not downed. This is
considered to be draining.
Charge Shot Cancel (CSC): As implied by its name, you use a charge shot to
cancel an action. This is, of course, done by using
the CS right after whatever you want to cancel. Note
that CSC doesn't not re-aim like it did back in AvZ
series. In turn, CSC is almost useless in GvG.
However, some units like Sazabi can CSC in a manner
much like the CSC back in AvZ. In Sazabi's case, this
can be done by using air step melee > CSC.
Battou Cancel: Battou means unshealth, for those who don't know. Some units
(like Aegis and Sazabi) have a short animation for unshealthing
their melee weapon. Players can take advantage of this to
decrease the lag when your unit land by unshealthing right
before landing.
Units that can perform Battou Cancel:
- Aegis, Sazabi, Char's Zaku, Gundam, GP03, etc.
Reload Cancel: Almost the same thing as Battou Cancel, except you are using
units that can reload to perform the same feat.
Units that can perform Reload Cancel:
- Gundam Mk2 (BR/BZ mode only), etc.
Assist Cancel: You can cancel out some movements by calling upon your Mobile
Assist. This can be done by quickly pressing the other buttons
required for using the Assist after the button you intend to
press. For example: Strike Gundam. Let's say the player wants to
switch to Sword Strike, but wants to cancel the equipment change
animation. The player can achieve this by inputing 6ac>b as
quickly as possible. What will happen is that the equipment
change animation will be completely canceled by the animation of
calling upon assist. This is fairly useful for things that have
a delay for equipment changes. But of course, you can cancel
other attacks with this as well. The inputs for Assist Cancel
are the following:
- ab>c
- ac>b
- bc>a
Second Impact Correction: Whenever your unit is attacked consecutively, the
attacks following the initial attack will be adjusted
to deal less damage. The correction rate depends on
weapon used.
Cancel Correction: When a unit performs a cancel on its attacks (eg. Gundam's
a>ab), the latter attacks will receiving a 50% adjustment in
damage. Note that this isn't the same as second impact.
Guts Correction: As your unit's HP decrease, your unit's attack and defense
will be increased accordly. The lower your HP, the bigger the
correction.
The biggest corrections in terms of attack power are the
following:
40%: God, Master
35%: F91, GX, Exia
26%: Alex
16%: Everything else other than Zaku Kai
15%: Zaku Kai
The biggest corrections in terms of defense power are the
following:
7%: Sazabi
5%: Everything else other than Qubeley Mk-II
4%: Qubeley Mk-II
Friendly Fire Correction: Friendly fire damage are reduced to 1/4 of their
original attack power.
Consecutive Win Correction: Applicable to the arcade version of the game only.
As one team wins, they will receive a slight
reduction in attack power, as well as a slight
reduction in defense. Of course, the more wins, the
bigger the correction rate.
Priority: When two melee attacks clash at the same time, the attack with higher
priority will override the other.
Down Value: The factor that determines when your unit will be downed by
attacks. The down value limit is at 5. Once the limit is reached,
your unit will be rendered useless until you can recover. When a
unit is downed, it is indicated by a yellow lock status in the
targetting system. Usually Beam Rifles have a down value of 2
(BRs like Exia's are exceptions), and a hit of melee attacks
usually have a down value of 1.
Cut: This is a term for interrupting another unit's action. For example, if you
interrupt God's melee combo on your ally by firing your rifle, this is
considered to be a cut.

3f. Battle Gauge System [003f]
------------------------------------------
The Battle Gauge is composed of 6000GP, and all the units in the game are
separated in to 3 cost categories: 1000GP, 2000GP, and 3000GP. Of course, you
may create teams with varying costs. However, there may be Overcost involved,
which we will go over next.
Overcost System
---------------
This new system in GvG adjusts the HP of a newly spawned unit depending on the
amount of GP left in the Battle Gauge. If the cost of your unit is greater than
the amount of GP left in the Battle Guage, your unit's HP will be deducted by
the following formula (with some exceptions):

Here is the list of HP adjustments:
750HP: 2/3 = 500HP, 1/3 = 260HP
700HP: 2/3 = 470HP, 1/3 = 240HP
650HP: 2/3 = 440HP, 1/3 = 220HP
550HP: 2/3 = 370HP, 1/3 = 190HP
650HP: 1/2 = 330HP
600HP: 1/2 = 300HP

3g. Mobile Assist [003g]
------------------------------------------
The new addition to the VS series, units can now call for assists to support
them. This is exceuted by pressing main, melee, and the jump button at the same
time. They are mainly separated into 3 kinds:
- Offensive
- Defensive
- Support
The offensive assists usually have attack priority on the assists themselves,
so they can actually deal damage by crashing into the opponents. (eg. Gundam's
G-Fighter assists) The defensive kinds just merely defends for you. (eg. V's
Shrike Team) And lasting, the supporting assists. These assists stay by your
side, and are able to fire along with you. Examples of these assists can be
seen on the Sazabi, Mk-II, etc. You can also manually order them to fire by
pressing abc again while they are on standby. Of course, they can also act as
shields.
Learning how to use Mobile Assists properly is your first step to mastering a
unit.

3h. G-Crossover [003h]
------------------------------------------
Another new system introduced in GvG. This is basically the awaken system of
GvG. When the G-Guage is full, press whatever button you have assigned to the
CPU Command button twice to use it. Note that you cannot use G-Crossover if
your ally is not on the stage (aka, dead). Of course, that only applies if you
have an ally.
Units from each series have their own G-Crossover attacks, and they are as
follows:
Mobile Suit Gundam

Colony Drop - A colony drops diagonally down towards the stage. An explosion
occurs when it hits the stage.
Mobile Suit Gundam: 08MS Team
-----------------------------
Asparas II - Asparas II appears outside of the map and fires its beam cannon
on selected parts of the stage. Explosions will occur upon
contact with the stage.
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket
------------------------------------------
Bernie's Strategy - Santa balloons will appear on selected parts of the stage.
They will detonate after a certain amount of time.
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory

Dendrobium - Dendrobium appears outside the stage and fires a barrage of
missles, as well as its beam cannon. It will then sweep the stage
with its beam saber.

Colony Laser - A colony appears outside the stage and fires a beam across the
stage.

La Vie en Rose - Parts of La Vie en Rose drops down on a selected part of the
stage.

Axis - Axis flies across the stage, covers a wide area on higher elevations of

Rafflesia - Rafflesia flies across the stage, ramming whatever is in its path.

Operation Giant Roller - An Arastea class battleship travels across the stage.

stage, explosions will occur after. When God uses the

Moonlight Butterfly - The silhoulette of Turn X appaers, and uses Moonlight
Butterfly in the shape of the letter V.

GENESIS - GENESIS appears on top of the stage and fires a huge beam directly
down onto the stage.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY

Destroy - Destroy Gundam (MA mode) sweeps across the stage with its Nefertem503
cannons.

Gundam Meister - Virtue and Kyrios appear outside of the stage. Virtue fires a
giant beams across the stage. Kyrios bombs various parts of
the stage. There is roughly space enough to fit a medium size
unit under Virtue's beam.
When you use GCO with your ally, two GCOs will occur at the same time: Your own
GCO, plus your ally's. For example, if you are using Exia, and your partner is
Zeta. You will have Gundam Meister + Colony Laser as your GCO attack.

Q1) Why isn't <insert unit name> in the game?
A: Because they aren't, best if you ask Bandai-Namco.
Q2) Why isn't <insert song name> in the game?
A: See Q1.
Q3) Why doesn't 00 have more entries?
A: Bandai-Namco is lazy.....and apparently they consider Exia as a guest unit.
Big emphasis on guest.
Q4) Why doesn't Exia have Trans-Am?
A: Because 00 was barely airing when GvG was in development, its natural for it
to not have Trans-Am. However, Exia DOES have the Trans-Am in GvG NEXT.
Q5) What is GvG NEXT?
A: GvG NEXT is the sequel to GvG, slated for March release for arcades.
Q6) What are the secret units in the PSP port? And how do I get them?
A: You can obtain all the secret units by beating arcacde mode.
Guncannon: Beat Arcade Mode once
Kampfer: Beat Arcade Mode twice
GP01/Fb: Beat Arcade Mode three times
Destiny: Beat Arcade Mode four times
Q7) Why does the PSP port only have 4 secret units?

PSP exclusive units because they haven't been used enough competitively yet.
Q11) Why is Freedom in God tier?
A: SEED Awaken...'nuff said. And there is absolutely no room for argument.
Q12) But Freedom only as 550HP! Plus SEED sucks!
A: I don't care if SEED sucks, Freedom is still in God tier in the game. Also,
HP is irrelevant to Freedom.
Q13) How do you get into the Extra stages?
A: The exact requirements are unknown at the moment, but it seems like these:
- Get the emblems in the result screen
- Finish stages ASAP
- Kill as many enemies as you can
- Take as little damage as possible
- No Continues
Q14) What are the emblems in the Pilot Data cards? And how do I get them?
A: The emblems are like achievements, and these are the requirements:
1) Clear Normal Course
(Bronze: Clear, Silver: No Continue, Gold: No Continue + Finish all EX)
2) Clear Hard Course
(Bronze: Clear, Silver: No Continue, Gold: No Continue + Finish all EX)
