0.00 Introduction
====================
This is my first FAQ that I have done. I finally decided to actually go ahead
and make one since it seemed that no one else was working on one, or even
willing to do it. The only help the Generation of Chaos for PSP community could
get was from Flashben, who was very eager and helpful in answering questions,
providing tips, and just generally helping out.
Generation of Chaos is quite a simple game, made very complicated due to strange
abbreviations, no in-game tutorial (despite what one of the characters says),
and an extremely sub-par manual. I have plans for the guide to become quite
exhaustive, however this also means lots of time to finish it. So bear with me
while many parts are under construction or coming soon.I hope this guide can
provide some help to those out there who really want to learn and enjoy this
great game.
====================
1.00 Abbreviations
====================
One of the reasons this game seems so unapproachable to many are the confusing
abbreviations. It seems Idea Factory threw out the common SRPG/RPG
abbreviations and made a list all their own. I will obviously be using the
same abbreviations the game did so I am going to make a list here for
completions sake as well helping this guide in it's ease of use, hopefully.

2.00 Iconography
====================
Another reason the game is thought to be hard at the beginning are the many
icons used. They are shown as though we should know what they do and how they
work. The manual serves only to identify them, but nothing more. I will try
to make them more clear. I am also going to give a very brief description of
the icon for those of you who are either to lazy to read the manual or have read
it and thinks it sucks. Hopefully it is helpful.
2.01 Types
--------------------
The game and manual calls them types. Every weapon, armor, item, Super move, or
skill can possibly have a type associated with it. They are just basically
elements assigned the the individual items. Each element (except for Holy and
Dark) have a Superior and Inferior opposite. Holy and Dark are in a seperate
circle of opposites. They are each their Superior and Inferior opposite to the
other. I hope that makes sense.
Icon descriptions:
Fire = A red ball of flame
Wind = A light blue swirl (like a cyclone I guess)
Earth = A brown rock
Water = A teardrop of water with a smaller drop on the left
Holy = A white cross
Dark = A black lantern
The 2 circles of opposites is as follows:
Fire->Wind->Earth->Water->Fire
Holy<->Dark
When you see an enemy you will soon be fighting, with an elemental property on
their weapon or armor, it may be beneficial to equip some armor or a weapon that
is the superior opposite to that element. Also try to use spells that are the
superior opposite of your enemies as well.
During battle you can see the enemies Type for their weapon and armor. The
weapon type is the icon closest to the SUP gauge, and the armor is the one
farthest from it.
2.02 Style
--------------------
The two different styles of attack are Physical signified by a sword, and
Magical signified by a staff. These are someone like Holy and Dark, you are
better off attacking with the opposite style as it will do more damage to your
opponent. Usually those with Physical style have a strong attack in front or
near them, meaning they can hit multiple people at once. Magic is usually
ranged in the straight line, meaning they can only hit one person at a time.
However there are exceptions to this rule, such as guns which are physical, with
incredible range, projectile velocity, and can only hit one person at a time.
And bows can either be magical or physical depending on the unit type.
At the beginning of battle it shows the Style of the enemy in the unit stat box
before you choose your formation and operation. After you see what style you
and the enemy both have you make a good decision on formation and operation to
annihilate your opponents.
2.03 POW
--------------------
This icon determines the basic category that each unit will fit into. Though
there are a few that do not belong to any category and are simply represented
by a dash. The premise with POW is that during certain matchups, the units will
do less or more damage. When the same kind of unit is fighting (human vs human)
for example they will do much less damage. We at the message board haven't
figured out yet if there is some Rock-Paper-Scissors method to give a certain
kind the upper hand against another. Also items and skills can have a POW
icon associated with them as well, this means they are strong vs. that kind of
unit.
Icon descriptions:
Human = A guy with a helmet on
Monster = A toothy demon looking thing with horns
Undead = A skeleton
Beast = An animal that looks like a deer
Dragon = A green dragon head
2.04 Resistance
--------------------
This is an easy one. There are 4 kinds of resistances in this game. They only
affect status changes, and you either have the resistance or dont. It isn't a
% resist to any certain affect. You can see the resistance icons in the
tolerance box of an item or character.
Icon descriptions:
Instant Death = A skull
Spped Change = A boot with wings
Sleep = some animal with Z's around it
Change Accuracy = A target with an arrow in it
2.05 Weather
--------------------
Weather has a profound effect on the way battles play out. Even though the
icons for weather are as simple as can be, for completeness I have included this
section as well as an Icon description for them as well. Also the weather seems
to play out as normal real world seasons (in the US). Later months are snowy,
earlier months are rainy, middle months are sunny and foggy.
Icon Descriptions:
Sunny = A....sun
Rain = An umbrella
Foggy = A wisp of clouds
Snow = A snowman
Cloudy = A.....cloud
2.06 Time of Day
--------------------
Time of day is even simpler than Weather, but once again for completeness here
it is. Some units are incredible strong during the day or night and incredibly
weak during the day. Skull Knights are some of my favorite units, however they
are only very good at night. During the day their appearance and statline is
that of Soldiers, however at night they get a +200% boost, and turn into
skeleton knights. When this happens (mixed with a foggy weather pattern) they
can get 99 attack, 60+ def, and 30+ speed. Even saints would want to run in
fear.
Icon descriptions:
Day = Sun (duh!)
Night = Moon (Duh!!)
2.07 Miscellenous
--------------------
There are a few icons that appear in the game that don't fit into any of the
previous categories I have made.
Leader = Large Red Crown: If this Commander is ever taken prisoner or killed
the game is over.
Defending Commander = Shield: Only 4 commanders in one place can have this icon.
This icon means if attacked they are the ones who will fight the enemies.
If these 4 are defeated the rest in that area are taken prisoner as well.
Commander on Duty = Feather: This designates a commander that has been given a
job to do. i.e. fortify, invest, search, etc.
Field Use = Map: A skill with this icon means it can be used on the world map.
Battle Use = Crossed Swords: A skill with this icon means it can be used in
battle.
Weapon Level = Sword in a circle:
Lord = Small Crown: A Commander with this icon is the landlord of a city/castle.

3.03 Skills
--------------------
Each Commander has the ability to use Skills, which consume SP. The number of
SP consumed is variable based on the effect and power of the skill used. Skills
may have types associated with them as well. Use them wisely for even greater
effect. Skills can have multiple effects when cast also. There are skills with
requirements for use, those will be shown just to the right of the SP needed to
cast the skill.
Skills also have a few stats:
STR: Determines how much impact the skill does. +/- Indicates a change, an
integer indicates STR of damage.
%: Success rate
EX: Effect Range (1= 1 unit)
RNG: Field Map Range
SP: SP needed to cast
Requisite: Type Icon shows the ability level needed to cast, it is either Fire,
Water, Earth, Wind, Holy, Dark, or Weapon Level
Field or Battle Icon: Shows where it can be cast.
(I will abbreviate them as follows in the skill list)
B:Battle
F:Field
A:All
Type/POW: The type of damage dealt with the the skill and what it is strong
against.
EQuipment: The type of equipment needed to use this skill.

5.00 Menu Options
====================
This next section is really not going to go into any great detail about the
subject matter. Most of it is described better in other sections, this part
is simply to help clear up the menu system and eliminate confusion on the
commands available.
CMD
------
Takes you to the CMD Menu, explained below.
Shop
------
Allows you to buy or sell items. When you choose this option you then choose
the city/castle you want to shop at. Higher Fortification values means better
weapons for sale, higher Market value means better accessories and items.
Map
-----
Allows you to freely roam the map.
Save
------
Save or Load a game
View
------
There are 6 options here.
1) Commander: Allows you to view the status of each of your Commanders.
You can see their name, unit (number of soldiers), location, if they are a
landlord, and their loyalty value. You can also see what commanders have yet to
perform an action by looking at their name. If it is grayed out they have
already done an action, white means they are available for an action. By
pressing X while over a Commander you can choose to view their stats or to give
them a command.
2) HQ: Allows you to view the Fortification, Market, Income, how many
Commanders are inside, the number of Commanders defending, and Prisoners located
there.
3) Prisoner: Allows viewing of the names, location, loyalty, and cost of
your prisoners.
4) Unit Type: Allows viewing of the types of units encountered so far. By
pressing X you can enter into their stat page.
5) Item: You can see your inventory of items here. It shows the type of
items, their price, worth as a gift to your Commanders, and number owned.
6) Skill: You can see your inventory of unassigned skills here. It shows
the type, price, worth and amount owned.
PER
-----
There are 3 options here, once you press X while on a Commander.
1) Change: You can change the order in which your Commanders are paid. If
you do not have enough fund to pay all of your Commanders the ones on the top of
the list are paid first, and the rest will leave you.
2) Assign Advisor: You can choose a Commander to be an advisor, which can
affect your Prisoner conversion rate. Choose a commander with high CHM to be
a successful Advisor.
3) Expel: Get rid of one of your Commanders.
FUNC
-------
Takes you to the option menu where you can change cut scene occurrence, updates,
field effects and voices.
5.01 CMD Menu
--------------------
Move
------
Move your Commanders around the map.
R and D
---------
This option allows you to change the landscape of a square, to suit your liking.
Politics
--------
There are 3 options.
1) Fortify - To strengthen the wall of your castles and cities.
2) Invest - To increase income of that city/castle.
3) Allies - to form allies with other kingdom but you can still attack them....
PRS - Prisoner
----------
To recruit, kill or release prisoners. You can check your prisoners statistics
by choosing stats. A captured prisoner can be converted to your side by
choosing the Conversion option. Release and Execute are obvious.
Lord
-----
To choose a lord to govern the castle and if the lord is an INT Commander then
the chances of the castle being affected by spell is lower. There are also
other affects that choosing a landlord will do. If you choose a physically
strong Commander to be a landlord fortifying will be quicker and cheaper for
everyone that attempts it (choosing a physical landlord and a physical
character to do fortifying will greatly reduce the time and money needed).
The same goes for INT Commanders, they reduce time and cost for Investing.
Also a Commander with high Luck as a landlord, will give you better results
in searching in that area.
RCT - Recruit
----------------
To recruit soldiers to join the Commander's army.
LOY - Loyalty
----------------
Award your Commander to increase its loyalty to you so that they will not get
missing while doing search and won’t easily get recruit after being prisoners.
SCH - Search
----------------
Search for items, weapons, gold, and Commander in cities/castles, caves, and
towers.
Stat - your char. stats
---------------------------
To check your Commander's stats and you can also equip items, spells and weapon
in
this option.
ARG - Defend your land
-----------------------------
Need to choose the Commander to defend your land. If you see a number on top of
your castle, that mean the number of Commanders defending your castle.
Sometimes there may be Commanders in the castle but if they are doing a search
or doing Politics works, they are consider not in the castle. Therefore if an
enemy goes into a castle w/0 defender, it will be taken without a fight. Even
if you have 6 Commanders in the castle, you can only appoint 4 Commanders to
defend your castle. If all the 4 Commanders are defeated, the enemy will take
the castle and the remaining 2 Commanders will become prisoners. This command
is also used for taking Commanders off of defense duty, so make sure you are
not taking them off of defense when you want defenders.
5.02 Enemy HQ CMD Menu
--------------------
RCT - Recruits enemy commander
---------------------------------
Enemies with low LOY are easier to persuade to your cause.
CRS - Decrease enemy building values and market values.
-------------------------------------------------------
The catch is: If you fail to do this properly, your commander can be captured or
killed.
STAT - Check Status
-------------------
Duh...
BRB - Lowers enemy loyalty.
---------------------------
Bribe you enemies to make them love you and easier to convert without taking
them prisoner first.
MAG - Cast a magic spell on your enemy's kingdom on the map
--------------------------------------------------------------
Lower the SP, Unit number, Market, Fortification or your enemies cities/castles.
PRS - Check prisoner
-----------------------
Check on your Commanders that have been taken prisoner
5.03 Battle Menu

6.00 Beginning a New Game
====================
There are a few things that are noteworthy, and good stuff to know before
beginning a game. These things will help new players immensely as they can
and have confused advanced players as well.
Keep the following in mind:
1)Red is good, Blue is bad. This is unlike nearly every other RPG, SRPG,
basically any game with stat increases and decreases. A red number means
that stat has been improved, and blue means it has been decreased.
2)At the end of a Chapter, all you have done in the previous chapter such
as land/city developement, leveling up, items found and whatnot, are all
carried over. The new Chapter will take place in the same location with new
map area added. So be prepared for the next Chapter at the end of the one you
are in.

8.00 Hiring Commanders
====================
There are a few ways to get new Commanders, namely Taking Prisoners and
converting them, and searching for new Commanders, which can be either random
Commanders and Units, or one of the Secret Characters.
8.01 Taking Prisoners
--------------------
When you defeat an enemy commander in battle, you may take them prisoner (If
the enemy commander's name is Mercenary or Thief, you probably wont take them
prisoner. However, they may join you as a partner). Once they have been
taken prisoner by a unit, anyone on that unit's space (Including that unit),
may attempt to convert the enemy commander to your cause. Select "PRS", and
choose the commander you wish to convert. Select "Conversation", and then
select the commander who you want to try to convert them. Commander's with
higher Loyalty or Charm have an easier time converting others, and Commanders
who's nation has been destroyed are easier to convert. Also remember that you
can appoint an advisor (one with high Charm is best) to raise the chances of
recruiting a prisoner. Once you have chosen who to try to convert with, select
them and select "Execute". The Maximum amount of prisoners a Commander can have
is 3. Any more than that and when you capture a new one you have to choose to
release or execute one.
8.02 Commander Searching
--------------------
To find commanders (Some of which may be the three commanders you created before
starting the game), have a general on an area select "Search". This is easiest
to do on cities and towns. Areas such as caves have a higher rate of finding
enemy commanders and items. The Commander will be released from guard duty for
a few turns, and then the report will tell you what was found. This can be a
commander, or a Merchant (Raises Market value), Architect (Raises Fortification
value), item, or money.
8.03 Secret Character Commanders
--------------------
You can find these ultra powerful secret Commanders by searching in the same
location every game. Also, though not proven, it seems that using a lower level
Commander with less luck actually has a higher chance of encounter them, as they
are less likely to find items and such. You will know when you have found them
because a blue event message will appear and you will go to a short cutscene.
Their stats and units are all located in the 3.01.01 Unique Commanders part of
the Troops section of the guide. I will however write their locations to be
found and the landmark.
Nightly-Dabikk (Star mid-point)

Teri-Bull Cave (Cave)
Dora Jean-Baura (Tower)

9.00 Research and Developement
====================
[Under Construction]
9.01 Landscaping
--------------------
Reasons for altering the land are to boost your soldiers if they are strong in
those locations (for example Warriors are weak in forest, but strong in rocky
land), or to allow passage between cities/castles. Each units strength also
determines their movement on certain types of land.
When you chain many squares of one kind of terrain together it increases the
cost of the next square you are going to landscape. This is because having a
chain of terrain can really affect a battle that takes place there.
Landscaping options are:
-Flat Land:
-Forest:
-Rocky Land:
-Water:
-Desert:
9.02 Building
--------------------
R&D also allows you to build different structures on the spaces that have a
signpost. In order to do this you must have a CDR in a base near the signpost
and choose R&D there, then choose the signpost square. Do not move your
Commander onto the signpost to build, it doesn’t work that way. Each building
has a special effect, as well as an upkeep cost. When using R&D it seems that
higher PWR Commanders have a quicker and cheaper time doing it.
Building options are:
-Fort: Upkeep 5000, Defend your lands with this.
-Recruit Office: Upkeep 1000, Recruits soldiers when you stay here.
-Factory: Upkeep 10000, Gives you an item after every round.
-Clinic: Upkeep 2000, Restores HP when you stay here.
-Graveyard: Upkeep 0, Encounter random enemies.
====================
10.00 Searching
====================
When searching for items, the place you search can determine the types of items
you find. Class Change and Unit Change items seem much more common in Caves
than any other place, while the Summon items seem to appear more in Towers. A
unit's INT rate affects how often they will find items, but their LUCK seems to
determine the quality of items they will find. Sometimes, you will find
enemies while searching. Those that have a unique name when it displays their
type (not Mercenary, Thief, or the monster type (Iron Demon, Baby Drago, ect..))
will be taken prisoner. However, those without a unique name may join your
searcher's troop as a partner. The advantages of this are easily seen. You
can have your army of Wizards be led by a Baby Drago, or Iron Demon, effectively
providing a nice meatshield while your other troops wipe through the enemy.
Searching in towns finds far different results. The number of items found is
mimimal, and the quality seems to be low. However, Gifts from the people, Gold
and Silver mines (which raise the production per month of that area by 100 to
1000), items, accessories, and commanders can be found. These searches tend to
take longer than those in other areas.
There are also certain areas that when searched can yield incredibly powerful
Commanders, which I have detailed earlier in the guide in the Hiring Commanders
section.

11.00 Frequently Asked Questions
====================
Q: Why did I create 3 Commanders at the beginning and where did they go?
A: I assume it is so you can at least customize a few Commanders to your liking.
These 3 are basically just Commanders that you can recruit throughout the game.
They show up every now and again and are apparentely easier to recruit. They
have also been known to join the enemy commanders army, but have a good chance
of joining you when taken prisoner and converted.
Q: How do I kill Dragons? Why doesn't the Dragon's HP go down? Why do I die so
fast?
A: This is the most common question I get. Everytime I check my email, I have
6-10 people asking how to do kill Dragons. Everyone has different strategies,
some good, some bad, for the Dragons. I will just describe the way I killed
them and and give a few options. First things first, all Dragons HP number is
misleading. It is not 9999 HP, I think the lowest hit-point dragon has 15000.
So that explains why you are not seeing his HP drop. Now that that is out of
the way, the tricks to killing them are as follows. Do any or all of them,
though honestly, for a few of the dragons I just used Jackal with a red herb
(heals 50%).
1) Use SUPER move betrayal to lower his MRL, or the item Lost cause to lower his
morale. This gives a mean subtraction to ALL of his stats. There are a few
other skills, or SUP moves that do this as well, but I can't remember them off
hand right now.
2) Recruit the secret commanders available at that time. The first is Nightly by
searching in Dabikk, and I believe you can get Jackal by Chapter 3 by searching
in Grapton.
3) Line up 4 or 5 Commanders, the weakest ones first, and use Lost Cause items
and do as much damage as possible and then retreat before your Commander gets
nailed.
4) A good strategy is using a Samurai Commander with Infantry troops, or a
Viking Commander with Pirate troops.
Q: How do I run from a battle?
A: You can only run from a battle if you are NOT the defender. If you are
attacking, or moving and encounter a random enemy, or searching and encounter
a random enemy you may retreat by choosing the RUN command from te OPR menu.
Q: How do I capture enemies?
A: You would be suprised how many times this question is asked, so I have to put
it in here. You simply defeat them in combat, then they become your prisoner.
Q: When I have captured a prisoner, where do they go and how do you conver them?
A: After you have taken a prisoner, you can check the prisoners statistics by
going to that Commander's menu and choosing PRS. You can also view their stats,
execute or release them from the main red Menu, by choosing View and then
Prisoner. Your captured prisoners will either be located with the Commander
that took them prisoner or in a base nearby. In order to take them prisoner
you must be in a base (you cannot do it while moving), select PRS once again,
there will now be four options, one of them being conversion (the others are
stats, release, and execute). I have gone into more detail on this in the
Hiring Commanders section.
Q: How do I rescue a captured Commander?
A: Well if your Commander has been defeated by a random monster you are outta
luck, they take no prisoners. However if your Commander is taken prisoner by
an enemy nation, you simply need to defeat the Enemy Commander that is holding
him/her prisoner and at the end of the battle you will have rescued your
Commander.
Q: How do I change my Commanders/Units class?
A: Most of us are still trying to figure this out to a perfect answer. But for
the purposes of this question, you use Class Change items (for Commanders), and
Affect Soldier items (for Units). Some of them can be used in battle to the
effect, others you must equip and then have the Commander die. Also it seems
that you must have a certain class already to change (promote) them to another
it is not like Final Fantasy Tactics where you can choose any profession you
want as you go. It seems to be more along the lines of Warsong or Shining Force
where you are in a progression line of class change. I hope that was clear.
Q: How come I can't use my commander's skills during battle?
A: You either haven't filled up your SUP gauge yet, have been restricted by a
spell effect, or are out of SP.
Q: How do I do I replenish my Commander's units?
A: This must be done in a base (cave, tower, star, city, castle). You simply
select the RCT option and then choose the Commander you would like to recruit
for, then select the number of units you would like to hire.
Q: How do I use R&D? How do I build?
A: For a more in depth answer see my section on R&D, but for now... You simply
stand on the nearest base to the square you would like to change (whether
landscaping or building) choose R&D and then select the square. You build on
the signpost squares, when you select it for R&D you are given the option for
landscaping or building. Also note that you cannot build when standing on the
signpost, you must be at the nearest base.

12.00 Tips and Tricks
====================
-Do NOT build factories early in the game. While this might seem like a good
idea, after all you are getting (occasionally)some pretty sweet and powerful
items, you are also spending 10000 gold a turn. Which is like supporting 8-10
Commanders. In the beginning you simply cannot afford this. A better way of
getting items is searching for them. Of course if you have been hoarding gold
for a long time and have it maxed, go nuts..
-Max out your Cities/Castles Market and then move your Commanders out of that
area. The enemy can cast spells only on the cities with Commanders in them.
Some of those spells are nasty, lowering fortification, market, sp, unit number,
etc. These are things you do not want to hit your cities, so prevent it the
best you can.
