Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection Character Guide
Disclaimer
Hello to anybody who is reading this guide. This is just a small guide to
give information on the different characters that you use in the two games.
The information for the Original game will work for the interlude. Things
that I do not mind you doing with this guide include recommending it to
friends, printing it, or saving it to your computer for your own use.
Something that I do mind is you posting this guide as your own work without
giving me credit. I worked hard to get all of this information together and I

I will rate all the characters that you can use at the end of the game using a

FINAL FANTASY IV
Cecil-captain of the Red Wings. All of his life he has been raised by
the King of Baron. As such he feel indebted to him and takes up the
Dark Sword on his command. He is very close to Kain, Rosa, and Cid

MY EVALUATION-*****
Cecil is a very good character. This is good because you are stuck
with him the entire game. After becoming a paladin he will gain the
ability to cast a few white magic spells. This will enable him to
heal in the middle of a dungeon and let your real white mage focus on
healing in fights

Kain-leader of the Dragoons of Baron. He is both friend and rival to
Cecil in many ways. When he was young he decided to follow in his
father’s footsteps and become a Dragoon
MY EVALUATION-****
Kain is a good character due to the fact that he has decent attack
stats. In terms of personality, however, he is severely lacking.
Properly used he can be incredibly useful when facing enemies who deal
massive damage to the entire party. Get familiar with how long his
jump attack takes to charge.

Rosa-White Mage. She is friends with both Kain and Cecil. When she
hears of Cecil’s disappearance after Mist she goes rushing after him.
She will be in your party most of the game and only leave once.

Rosa is a good character when it comes to using white magic. If you
can level her up quickly she will be a vital part of your team.

Cid-Airship Engineer. He is the one responsible for building and
maintaining all of Baron’s Airships. He is very energetic and is hard
for anyone other than his daughter to control
MY EVALUATION-***
Cid has a lot of HP. He is a brawler and that is all he is good for.
His analyze ability will allow you to check the status and health of
the enemies. Other than that he should just stay in his airship

Rydia-Summoner of Mist- When you get her Rydia is still a child.
During this time she can cast both White and Black Magic as well as
summon monsters to help her in battle.

MY EVALUATION-*****
She is very good as a magician with her big problem being that she
takes so long to learn some of the more powerful black magic’s.
However some of her summons do make up for that problem as Leviathan
and Bahamut are more powerful than even the -GA- spells

Tellah-Sage. Tellah is on a quest to retrieve his daughter who ran
off with a bard to Dymacan. He then changes his mission to destroy
Golbez even at the cost of his life.

MY EVALUATION
He is both a good character and a bad character. He is good because
part way through the game he learns most of the spells for both black
and white. He just doesn’t learn the most powerful spells like Flare
and Holy. The bad part is that he only has 90 MP. Period. It
doesn’t matter if you level him up to level 100 he will still have
only 90 MP. He also dies so he can’t do much after that

Edward-Prince. He is the person who Anna ran off with. When the Red
Wings attacked Damcyan his parents were killed and Anna was injured
while trying to save him. After some encouragement from Rydia, he
decides to help the group and gives them the hovercraft.
MY EVALUATION-**
He is one of the worst characters in the game. He has the health and
attack of a mage but he has no magic. His bardsong ability is
completely random and will sometimes do nothing at all. the only
thing he is good for is when you are going against an enemy who can
kill the party with one hit. You can just have him hide and he will
not get hit and then he can help revive the team.

Yang-martial artist from Fabul. Very honorable and would do anything to
help his friends.
MY EVALUATION-***
He is a very strong character. He has a high attack and a high HP
which makes him good for dealing heavy damage. The only down side is
that he cannot equip some of the stronger equipment which means he
will take more damage than others.

Porom-White mage from Mysidia. Very patient with idiots shown through
her ability to keep her brother in line. She is sent to Mount Ordeals
with her brother to help Cecil

When you start off with her she is very useful as a mage. It is not
hard considering you need a white mage and she is all that you get.
When you get her back later she is much stronger and will know most of
the spells in her class.

Palom-Black mage from Mysidia. An annoying brat who never knows when to
shut up. He is sent to Mount Ordeals with his sister to help Cecil

He is very useful. He is a key part in Cecil becoming a Paladin due
to the fights with Zombies. When you get him back he is even more
useful because he will have most of the black spells

Edge-Ninja from Eblan. Heir to the Ninja arts. His skills are
surpassed only by his cocky attitude.

MY EVALUATION-***
The only thing that Edge is good for is throwing weapons. Using that
Knife against the final boss is about all he does. He does not have
the HP, Strength, or Defense of a Warrior and he does not have the
spell casting ability or MP of a mage.

Fusoya-Lunarian. He is an inhabitant of the moon who joins you to
fight the Giant of Babil. He is a master of both Black and White
Magic.

MY EVALUATION
He is basically the same as Tellah, just a little better. He will
start out at 50 and I suggest that you leave him there. The good
thing is that he has much more MP then Tellah which make him a better
mage plus he knows EVERY spell for both categories. He is also very
helpful in getting Bahamut if you want to get him before you tackle
the Giant. The only big bad thing is that he leaves before you get to
do much with him

His usefulness is determined by where you are at in the game. If you are in
the first part of the moon he is only good for a shield. He still has his
cover move so he can defend the weaker characters. Just remember that his
stats are horrible so he will be slow. During the second half of the moon he
is much more useful. His stats are very high and he can do a lot more damage
than during the first part. He will also be able to use his powerful bands
and his weak white magic.

Edge is not a bad character. Unlike his fellow ninjas he is able to use all
of the different varieties of Ninjutsu. Being able to duel-wield weapons
helps his attack stats but his defense is horrible.

He is the best character in my opinion. Not only can he use the most powerful
weapons and armors, but he can also cast the most powerful black spells.
These include Flare and Meteor. So long as you don’t kill him off he will be
one of the top fighters. The biggest downside to Golbez is that his HP will
not increase from the time that you get him until he gets past level 55.

One of the toughest fighters in the game. Not only can he hit hard, he can
avoid attacks using his jump command. Like Cecil he can use white magic, but
unlike Cecil his magic is able to be used in fights.

MY EVALUATION-****
There is a good side and a bad side to Leonora. The good side is that she has
the ability to use the most powerful white and black spells. The bad side is
that she doesn’t get her level 3 black spells until she is above level 80. If
you are the type of person who likes to level up she is definitely a good
character for you. She also has the ability to learn the Dualcast ability,
which will allow you to cast two spells at once.

Like her mentor, Cid, she is able to use strong weapons and armor. However
her defense stats are not that high so you might want to give her a distance
weapon and put her in the back row.
