I. Introduction
--------------------
This is a guide for new players to learn about and how to play as
Squall Leonhart from Final Fantasy 8. This is the first guide that I have ever
made, just giving it try for once instead of just reading the others on this
site all the time. For anyone who has played Final Fantasy 8 in the past, they
would know that Squall is the lone wolf that prefers to do things his way,
alone. His weapon is what is called a Gunblade, which is exactly as it sounds;
part gun, and part sword. The [R] button is the trigger for the Gunblade,
which will be described in detail later on in this guide. Well, let's get on
to the main event, shall we?
-----------------------------
II. Character Analysis
-----------------------------
“ Squall is a noble warrior, with the pride of a lion,
He is on his lonely path when he sees his comrades,
Under attack by the manikins.
But to him, perhaps they are not comrades at all,
They may be mere strangers accidentally born,
In the same world.
Without any hesitation, he plunges into battle.”
Squall Leonhart is a close to mid range fighter. He excels in
his Bravery Attack, where he has several wicked abilities, the one most
known and probably his best one is Beat Fang. Where he lacks, however,
is in his HP Attacks. None of them are all that special, and they all
have a hard time hitting in comparison to other characters. Where your
very strong in one point, you have to be weak in the other, I suppose.
From level 1 to 10, I find him rather difficult to use, other than that
Fated/Aerial Circle almost never miss their targets. His bravery attacks,
which is where he shines, are rather limited and not that good. But when he
does hit level 10, and you learn Beat Fang, he immediately becomes a
Bravery Attack power house, and if you do manage to pull off Aerial
Circle right after a Beat Fang, he can normally one shot almost any enemy.
There are, however, many characters that you will have to use other
abilities against, which I will be describing how to fight each
character in section VIII.

III. Squall’s Stats
------------------------
In this section, Squall’s stats from Lv. 1 to Lv. 100 will be shown.
-------------
Base Stats
-------------
HP= Hit Points - You need this to survive. If your hit points are reduced to
0, then you will lose the battle.
CP= Capacity Points- This is a very important stat that allows you to equip
abilities for your character to use. For example, if you have 400 CP, and 380
CP of that 400 CP are being used by the skills you have equipped, and you
just learn a new HP attack skill that requires 40 CP, then you will need to
somehow get 20 more CP to equip the HP attack ability to use it in battle.
This can be done by either removing a skill you have on, mastering some of
your abilities, which cuts the CP cost in half, or to get the accessory
which increases your CP by 20.
BRV= Bravery Points- This stat is what determines how much damage an HP
attack will do, as well as how much damage you will start off the battle with.
ATK= Attack Power- This stat is what determines the damage dealt to an
opponent with Bravery attacks.
DEF= Defense Power- This stat is what helps lower the damage you will
receive from the enemy’s bravery attacks.
LUK= Luck- This stat is what increases the drop rate of items and Battlegen
items. This also is what determines who EX Cores appear near to.

IV. Move List
-------------------
In this section, Squall’s skills will be discussed, from what level he
will learn it to when you should use them and which skills are good or not.
------------------
Brave Attacks
------------------
----------------
Land Abilities
----------------
- Upper Blues - (Close) Leap to the air. Quick Launch, easy wall rush.
{Additional Effect: Wall Rush}
AP needed to master: 120 CP: 30 (15 when mastered)
Level Learned: Start
Description: Sort of a ground substitute for pulling off an easy Aerial
circle, this ability has its uses at times. Fusillade has proven me to
be a more useful ground move however, and Solid Barrel has the additional
effect chase, so it has not made its way to my skill settings.
- Blizzard Barret - (Long) Fire 1 ice bullet. Long range, strong homing.
AP needed to master: 90 CP: 20 (10 when mastered)
Level Learned: Start
Description: This ability is used to keep the pressure up on the enemy, of
course at a distance; also chains with Thunder Barret.
- Solid Barrel - (Close) Repeated slashes. Short range; quick and powerful.
{Additional Effect: Chase}
AP needed to master: 120 CP: 30 (15 when mastered)
Level Learned: 3
Description: One of the two better ground Brave Attacks, the nice thing
about this attack is that this is Squall’s only chase ability. It does a
lot of Bravery damage, which is of course nice, as well as it is relatively
quick to pull off. This skill is also nice to combo with in EX Bursts.
- Thunder Barret - (Mid) Lightning that draws foes. Good start for combos.
AP needed to master: 120 CP: 30 (15 when mastered)
Level Learned: 6
Description: Chained with Blizzard Barret, this ability as well can keep
the pressure up on the enemy, also you to move in for the HP strike.
- Fusillade - (Mid) Magic barrage. Can combo without hitting
{Additional Effect: Chase}
AP needed to master: 120 CP: 30 (15 when mastered)
Level Learned: 22
Description: An excellent mid ranged bravery attack when it hits, this
spell barrage can send the enemy to a world of pain once you get the Chase
effect added as well. Great to use against close range opponents to keep
them from getting in close to strike.
---------------
Air Abilities
---------------
- Heel Crush - (Mid) Unleash heel drop. Slow start, fast movement.
{Additional Effect: Wall Rush}
AP needed to master: 180 CP: 30 (15 when mastered)
Level Learned: Start
Description: It looks as though I didn't give this ability much of a chance
to prove itself a worthy skill. After some information recieved by e-mail, I
gave this ability another whirl, only to learn that it combos REALLY well with
Beat Fang. It also has a magic block effect (which the skill fails to mention)
so its perfect for going up against characters like Ultimecia and Terra, and
is easily chained into Beat Fang for the bravery Break. Plus the Wall Rush is
nothing to laugh about, either.
- Beat Fang - (Close) Float, then strike down foe. Short Reach, but fast.
{Additional Effect: Wall Rush}
AP needed to master: 180 CP: 30 (15 when mastered)
Level Learned: 10
Description: This is without a doubt, in my opinion, Squall’s best Bravery
Attack in the game. After you dash at the enemy, just use this skill and you
can sometimes get them in a repeated combo with this skill over and over
again. I counted myself doing it once, and I’ve gotten 26 hits in a row
non-stop with skill before my opponent managed to break out of it. This skill
is also great for breaking the enemy’s bravery, as well as getting an easy
wall rush. It also combos beautifully with Aerial Circle. This ability works
even better when the {Sneak Attack} Extras Ability is equipped; you'll land
a lot of critical hits.
- Mystic Flurry - (Mid) Magic barrage. Can combo without hitting.
{Additional Effect: Wall Rush}
AP needed to master: 180 CP: 30 (15 when mastered)
Level Learned: 33
Description: This one is the aerial version of Fusillade, also a fairly
good aerial ability. It combos nicely with Aerial Circle, and certainly is
worth using in certain situations. Cornering the enemy and then unleashing
this ability also has a very positive effect, allowing you to follow up with
an Aerial circle.
--------------
HP Attacks
--------------
----------------
Land Abilities
----------------
- Fated Circle - (Close) Surround self with explosions. Block foe’s spells.
{Additional Effects: Magic Block, Wall Rush, Absorb}
AP needed to master: 180 CP: 40 (20 when mastered)
Level Learned: Start
Description: My personal favourite HP skill for Squall, this one is
the ground version. This skill has a 360 degree damage circle to it, although
it’s only real drawback is that it is a close ability. It’s easier to hit
the enemy with this skill (at least in comparison to Rough Divide), and is
good to combo with after Beat Fang. Also works nicely with Solid Barrel.
Once you get Blasting Zone, you’ll probably want to use it more than this
version of Fated Circle, at least while on the ground.
- Rough Divide (ground) - (Long) Leaping charge. Slow start, but very fast
charge.
{Additional Effect: Wall Rush}
AP needed to master: 300 CP: 40 (20 when mastered)
Level Learned: Start
Description: This is Squall’s only long ranged HP attack (other than it’s
aerial version), and it certainly has it’s uses. However, it’s one fatal
drawback is that you’ll probably have a pretty hard time hitting enemies
with this most of the time. Good to use when, of course, you are far away
from your opponent, and combos well with all of the mid and long ranged
Bravery Attacks. I have found this ability actually works rather well when
the enemy is up against a wall.
- Blasting Zone - (Mid) Chop with massive blade of light that flies forward.
AP needed to master: 300 CP: 40 (20 when mastered)
Level Learned: 30
Description: This is Squall's good mid ranged attack, probably taking it’s
place as the best ground HP attack for Squall. This skill works exceptionally
well after the enemy blocks, so keep that in mind.
- Revolver Drive - (Mid) Rage-filled charge. Can aim with the analog stick.
{Additional Effect: Wall Rush}
AP needed to master: 180 CP: 40 (20 when mastered)
Level Learned: 38
Description: This ability allows you to quickly dash to your opponent, while
breaking through attacks AND blocking magic spells. The CPU also loves to run
right into it sometimes for some reason or another, allowing you to break
their bravery, as well as do some HP damage.
---------------
Air Abilities
---------------
- Aerial Circle - (Close) Surround self with explosions. Block foe’s spells.
{Additional Effects: Magic Block, Wall Rush, Absorb}
AP needed to Master: 180 CP: 40 (20 when mastered)
Level Learned: Start
Description: My personal favourite HP skill for Squall, this one is the
aerial version. This skill has a 360 degree damage circle to it, although
it’s only real drawback is that it is a close ability. It’s easier to hit
the enemy with this skill (at least in comparison to Rough Divide), and is
good to combo with after Beat Fang.
- Rough Divide (midair) - (Long) Leaping charge. Slow start, but very fast
charge.

Description: This is Squall’s only long ranged HP attack (other than it’s
ground version), and it certainly has it’s uses.

This is Squalls EX Burst skill that can be used when the EX Burst Bar is full.
I works exactly like it does in the original Final Fantasy 8; hit this [R]
button, which is supposed to be the trigger for the Gunblade, when the lines
of light reach the square in the input bar. The more you do correctly, the
more damage Squall will do with his EX Burst. It finishes with the final blow
of his limit break, Lion Heart.
EX Effects: -These Effects takes place while you are in EX Mode
Regen: - [Always active while in EX Mode] Vigor and stamina recover little

VII. Story Mode
----------------------
In this section, I will be going through Squall story mode. You will
know each fight inside out as I will be reviling how to fight each battle,
get the DP, what items you can get, so on so forth.
I got all of the following information from going through the story
mode three time by starting a new game and typing down everything about
it before the battle, as well as in the descriptions, which also included
my thoughts and feelings about the fight while I was doing it. This is all
first hand experience by me for each fight, so I hope it will help the new
players to figure it out!

Rosetta stone
--------------
-----------
Stage 1
-----------
Battle 1: - Transient Lion(Squall) Lv. 1 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 56 gil,10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 338 CP: 330 BRV: 49 ATK: 10 DEF: 4 LUK: 10)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46),
Rusted Armour (HP-662)
Battlegen: Bless Powder = 13.1%, Bless Shard = 0.1%,
Order of Emptiness = 0.1%
Position: I would suggest to be below this battle piece to
fight it because you will be able to fight the
Ephemeral Vision right afterwards without losing
DP and to gain a little more exp.
Battle Tips: This one is really easy, not much is really
needed to be said. Hit him with a few Bravery
Attacks, then finish him with either Fated/
Aerial Circle or Rough Divide. For new players,
this is the perfect battle to learn Squalls
moves a little bit so don’t be in such a hurry
to finish it, since there are no DP Chance to
achieve. As Squall, my favourite HP attack to
use is Fated/Aerial Circle, simply because it
is the hardest ability for the enemy to dodge
out of all of Squall’s HP attacks. At this point
in the game, all three of Squall’s Bravery
attacks work quite well, especially against this
guy. Rough Divide will also pretty much always
hit him, so you can use this ability as well
to take him out. Other than that, this guy is
really weak and simple to beat.
Battle 2: - Ephemeral Vision(Tidus) Lv. 1 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 56 gil, and 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 338 CP: 330 BRV: 49 ATK: 11 DEF: 4 LUK: 10)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46),
Rusted Armour (HP-662)
Battlegen: Guts Powder = 17.0%, Order of Emptiness = 0.1%
Position: If you fought the Transient Lion from the bottom,
then you’ll get into this battle automatically.
Otherwise, fight it wherever you want.
Battle Tips: Same as above, since you do not have any DP
Chance to get, you can take your time to finish
this fight and learn the controls some more. He’s
quicker than Transient Lion was, and will attack
a bit more often. Same strategy though, attack
with bravery attacks until you can one shot him,
then use one of your HP attacks.
Battle 3: - Transient Witch(Ultimecia) Lv. 2 - Battle Map = Old Chaos Shrine
For Victory: 1AP, 56 gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 399 CP: 331 BRV: 111 ATK: 13 DEF: 3 LUK: 11)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Rusted Armour (HP-662),
Lithe Powder (Wall Rush BRV Def+5%), Bravery
Bonus: 1
Position: There’s only one way to fight her, you’ll figure it
out
Battle Tips: This is out of the way and does not help with DP
since there is no DP Chance to worry about, so
only come here the first time to get the
treasure, which is the Revolver, a must-have
weapon to make Squall‘s Ultimate weapon waaaay
later on in the game. Otherwise, very simple
battle, take you time if you’re new once again,
Ultimecia is really easy and slow. She’s a little
harder to break than the first two due to her
higher BRV, but it’s not really all the
difficult. If you already have gotten the
treasure before then just skip this battle.
Battle 4: - Delusory Knight(Cecil) Lv. 2 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 56gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 399 CP: 331 BRV: 55 ATK: 11 DEF: 4 LUK: 11)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46),
Rusted Armour (HP-662),
Battlegen: Titan Powder, Order of Emptiness
Position: When fighting this battle piece, I recommend fight
it from the right hand side, because another battle
piece pops up to fight right afterwards.
Battle Tip: Cecil is one of my least favourite to fight as
Squall, and that is for one reason: He can very
easily counter my favourite ability
(Fated/Aerial Circle) after being hit with a
Bravery attack, which is necessary to kill him,
otherwise I would just use an HP attack. But
unfortunately at Lv. 2, 101 BRV just does not
kill him in one attack. The best way to avoid
this I found is to break him then back off for
a second to let him do his attack, the jump
back in to finish him.
Battle 5: - Phantasmal Girl(Terra) Lv. 2 - Battle Map = Old Chaos Shrine
For Victory: 1AP, 56 gil, 10PP DP Chance: BRV Break within
10 seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 399 CP: 331 BRV: 55 ATK: 13 DEF: 4 LUK: 11)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46),
Rusted Armour (HP-662),
Battlegen: Amplification Powder
Position: Again, if you fought the Delusory Knight on the
right hand side, you will fight this battle piece
automatically. Otherwise, fight it wherever.
Battle Tips: Terra is one of those characters that you can
use her long range fight to you advantage, you
Squall is best at close to mid ranged combat.
For Terra, you want to dive right in there and
fight her real close to make her close to
useless. Although with this fight, she is very
slow and weak so no need to worry here. This is
the first battle that you can get a DP Chance!
For this one, you just need to break the opponent
within 10 seconds, which is pretty easy. All you
need to do is repeatedly strike at the opponent
with Bravery Attacks until they break, and then
you get an additional DP.
Battle 6: - Capricious Thief(Zidane) Lv. 2 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 10PP DP Chance: Win without taking
damage (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1061 CP: 331 BRV: 55 ATK: 10 DEF: 4 LUK: 11)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46)
Battlegen: Power Powder, Order of Emptiness
Position: For this fight it doesn’t really matter, fight it
wherever you want.
Battle Tips: Zidane is a speed power house and could run
circles around our slow Squall. And to top it
off, this is the first battle that the enemy does
not have an HP penalty, so one bravery attack
won’t cut it to one shot him. He is still pretty
easy at this stage though, just work on hitting
him with bravery attacks until you damage is
over 1061, then take him out. For this fight,
you have to win the fight without taking any
damage AT ALL. This included damage to your
bravery. So, if you get hit and are try to get
one of the DP awards, then just hit the start
button and restart the match if you get hit. You
can still hit him fairly easily with Rough
Divide, which is surprising considering his
speed, but good none the less. You may find it
easier to fight it from a distance so that you
don’t get hit.
End: - This is the end of Stage one, as soon as you destroy the Stigma of
Chaos. You’ll get rewards based on how much DP you have left. Now
it’s on to the next stage
------------
Stage 2
------------
There is a summon stone that you can, but not get until you’ve beaten
Squall’s story at least once. Just ignore it if this is your first
time through.
Battle 1: - Fallacious Tree(ExDeath) Lv. 1 - Battle Map = Old Chaos Shrine
For Victory: 1AP, 84 gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 1000 CP: 350 BRV: 49 ATK: 11 DEF: 6 LUK: 10)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46)
Position: Make sure you fight it from the right hand side,
because another battle piece will spawn beside you
if you do.
Battle Tips: ExDeath is in my opinion the easiest computer
to fight in the game, just due to the fact that
the AI plays ExDeath like a moron for some
unexplainable reason, so you should have no
troubles beating him.
Battle 2: - Capricious Thief(Zidane) Lv. 4 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 84 gil, 10PP DP Chance: Win within 10
seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 520 CP: 333 BRV: 78 ATK: 12 DEF: 6 LUK: 12)
` Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46),
Rusted Armour (HP-662), Gaia Ring (DMG+15%),
Guardian Bangle (Def+5%), Far from opponent (1.2x
Basic Accessories) x8
Battlegen: Power Powder = 10.2%, Order of Emptiness = 0.1%
Position: If you were standing to the right of the Fallacious
Tree battle piece, then you will get into this
battle automatically. Otherwise, fight it wherever
you want.
Battle Tips: Ugh, a stronger version of the annoyingly quick
Zidane we just fought not too long ago! And you
have to win within 10 seconds to the bonus DP!
Well, just go all out and if you don’t make it
then you can always just restart the match. Same
strategy as the last one you fought.
Battle 3: - Delusory Knight(Cecil) Lv. 1 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 84gil, 10PP DP Chance: Keep foe from
getting EX Cores (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1000 CP: 330 BRV: 49 ATK: 10 DEF: 3 LUK: 10)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46)
Battlegen: Titan Powder = 16.6%, Titan Shard = 0.1%
Position: Attack this piece in between this and the other
golden battle piece so you fight them both on after
the other.
Battle Tips: This one got the shaft for levels and is now back
on level 1. Same strategy as the one in stage
one. The DP Chance for this battle is to keep the
enemy from getting an EX Core, which is pretty
simple if you’re on the ball.
Battle 4: - Fallacious Wanderer(Bartz) Lv. 5 - Battle Map = Old Chaos Shrine
For Victory: 1AP, 84 gil, 10PP DP Chance: Critical hit
within 10 seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1 CP: 354 BRV: 2709 ATK: 15 DEF: 16 LUK: 12)
Equipment: Soul of the Destroyer (Initial Brave+2000%), The
Rotten (HP is 1)
Battlegen: Luck Powder = 14.7%
Position: If you fought in the middle of the two battle
pieces, you would fight this one automatically.
Otherwise, fight it wherever you wish.
Battle Tips: Ok, this is the first tricky fight you will have
encountered thus far. As you can see, he can be
one shotted with any HP attack. But his brave is
almost 3000! That means he can one shot you! And
if you get too close, which as Squall isn’t too
hard to do, then he’ll use the really quick
ability he has called Wind Shear and kill you, 3
times over. There is an easy way to fight this
fight though. Get close enough to him for him to
use the ability, then back off. Wait until he’s
just about to stop, then charge in with a
Fated/Aerial Circle. If you hit him, he’ll die.
You he dodge, immediately hit [R] + [O] together
to dodge out of the way, and wait for him to use
the ability again. Rise and repeat until you hit
him and kill him. Getting the Critical hit on him
within 10 seconds takes a fair amount of luck,
really. If you don’t get it and your trying to
get a particular reward, you could just instead
hit him with bravery attacks, and restart until
you get lucky if you want, or make sure you have
a full EX gauge when you fight him, so you’ll
have a higher chance to crit.
Battle 5: - Transient Witch(Ultimecia) Lv. 5 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 84 gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 580 CP: 335 BRV: 118 ATK: 16 DEF: 6 LUK: 12)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Rusted Armour (HP-662),
Gaia Ring (DMG+15%), Hyper Ring (DMG+10%),
Near Opponent (1.2x Basic Accessories) x8
Battlegen: Lithe Powder = 18.6%, Order of Emptiness = 0.1%
Position: Wherever you want. If you don’t need the healing
potion then I suggest from the top.
Battle Tips: Just a slightly more powerful version of the last
one we fought. Use the same strategy then surely
victory with be absolute (Haha, Squall Quote).
You will only NEED to fight this one to get the
summon stone later. Well, and of course to go on
with the story you’ll have to as well…
End: - Now with that all done you can use the healing potion if you wish and
get the summon stone if you can, then head on to stage 3!
------------
Stage 3
------------
Yay! On this stage there is a summon stone you can get, and it’s Bahamut to
boot! Although it’s only the auto version, so it’s not as good as the real
thing, it’s better than nothing, and his ability is to increase your brave
in set intervals for a period of time! If you didn’t buy a Bronze Bangle
in the shop, you do get one for free on this stage.
Battle 1: - Delusory Knight(Cecil) Lv. 2 - Battle Map: Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 112 gil, 10PP DP Chance: BRV Break within
10 seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1061 CP: 331 BRV: 55 ATK: 11 DEF: 12
LUK: 11)
Equipment: Charred Helm (BRV-46)
Battlegen: Titan Powder = 17.1%, Titan Shard = 0.1%,
Order of Emptiness, = 0.1%
Position: I normally go from the left, but the choice is
yours.
Battle Tips: Same strategy as always. Break him within
10 seconds to get the bonus DP!
Battle 2: - Fallacious Wanderer(Bartz) Lv. 7 - Battle Map: Pandaemonium
For Victory: 1AP, 112 gil, 10PP DP Chance: Win within
10 seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1 CP:356 BRV: 3276 ATK: 17 DEF: 18 LUK: 13)
Equipment: Bravery Bonus: 2, Soul of the Destroyer (Initial
BRV +2000%), The Rotten (HP is 1)
Battlegen: Luck Powder = 15.7%
Position: Doesn’t really matter as far as I know, I always
come from the left.
Battle Tips: Same strategy as the last one we fought, he just
a little more powerful, but it doesn’t matter
cause he can still one shot you anyways. Winning
within 10 seconds for this one isn’t so crazy,
since he can other take one hit.
Battle 3: - Ephemeral Vision(Tidus) Lv. 6 - Battle Map: The Rift
For Victory: 1AP, 112 gil, 10PP DP Chance: Win without
taking damage (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1303 CP: 336 BRV: 78 ATK: 16 DEF: 17
LUK: 13)
Equipment: Charred Helm (BRV-46), Gaia Ring (DMG+15%),
Guardian Ring (Def+5%), Far from Opponent (1.2x
Basic Accessories) x8
Battlegen: Guts Powder = 19.2%
Position: It does not really matter as far as I know, I’m
always attack him from the bottom.
Battle Tips: Watch out for when you wall rush him. His one
ability that looks like a weak version of Spiral
Cut is very fast, and you probably will not get
the opportunity to use an HP attack directly
after a Bravery Attack. This one is also
challenging to win without taking any damage, but
try your best!
Battle 4: - Phantasmal Harlequin(Kefka) Lv. 7 - Battle Map: Pandaemonium
For Victory: 1AP, 112 gil, 10PP DP Chance: EX Burst within
10 seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 702 CP: 356 BRV: 143 ATK: 18 DEF: 17
LUK: 13)
Equipment: Rusted Armour (HP-662), Gaia Ring (DMG+15%),
Guardian Bangle (Def+5%), Far from Opponent (1.2x
Basic Accessories) x8
Battlegen: N/A
Position: I’m always at the left side when I fight him.
Battle Tips: Pretty much like fighting Terra, but he makes
weird noises and his Blizzard spell is more
annoying that Terra's. Same strategy as fight
Terra, get in close to hinder him. EX Burst
within 10 seconds is something that you have to
plan out normally, like come in the battle with a
max EX Bar. Other than that, getting this DP
Chance is kinda hard.
Battle 5: - Imaginary Champion(Sephiroth) Lv. 2 - Battle Map: Pandaemonium
For Victory: 1AP, 112gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 399 CP: 331 BRV: 55 ATK: 12 DEF: 13 LUK: 11)
Equipment: Charred Helm (BRV-46), Rusted Armour (HP-662)
Battlegen: N/A
Position: Same as last if you do it my way, from the left.
Battle Tips: Sephiroth is kinda annoying with his Bravery
Attacks. Just get in there and end the fight
quick, is all I can really say, he really
isn’t all that bad at this level.
Battle 6: - Transient Witch(Ultimecia) Lv. 7 - Battle Map: Old Chaos Shrine
For Victory: 1AP, 112gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 702 CP: 337 BRV: 130 ATK: 18 DEF: 16
LUK: 13)
Equipment: Rusted Armour (HP-662), Gaia Ring (DMG+15%), Hyper
Ring (DMG+10%), Near Opponent (1.2x Basic
Accessories) x8
Battlegen: Lithe Powder = 19.7%
Position: Doesn’t really matter for this one I think.
Battle Tips: Same as any Ultimecia, get in close and dodge a
lot.
End: Battle 7: - Kuja Lv. 9 - Battle Map: The Rift
For Victory: 3AP, 168 gil, 30PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 1800 CP: 339 BRV: 192 STR: 21 DEF: 21
LUK: 14)
Equipment: Rod (HP+62, ATK+3, DEF+1), Robe (HP+253,
BRV+23), Bravery Bonus: 2
Battlegen: N/A
Position: Does not matter.
Battle Tip: This is the first real enemy you will have come
across. He’s sort of like fight Terra or Kefka,
so use the same strategy as when your fighting
them. He’s just a fair amount tougher, really.
He’s pretty annoying the first time you fight
him, and try not to let him go into EX Mode,
cause he kinda hurts a bit.
-----------
Stage 4
-----------
This stage I have found to be the best one for getting all of the high end
DP rewards, once you can beat the level 17 False Stalwart (aka. Garland),
and the level 25 Transient Witch (aka. Ultimecia).
Battle 1: - Capricious Thief(Zidane) Lv. 4 - Battle Map: Crystal World
For Victory: 1AP, 140gil, 10PP DP Chance: Keep foe from
getting EX Cores (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1182 CP: 333 BRV: 113 ATK: 12 DEF: 14
LUK: 12)
Equipment: N/A
Battlegen: Power Powder = 10.5%
Position: ALWAYS go from the right hand side if your going
for the DP items. ALWAYS.
Battle Tip: Same as any Zidane, and don’t let him get those
EX Cores!
Battle 2: - Phantasmal Harlequin(Kefka) Lv. 4 - Battle Map: The Rift
For Victory: 1AP, 140gil, 10PP DP Chance: Win within 10
seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1182 CP:353 BRV: 113 ATK: 15 DEF: 14
LUK: 12)
Equipment: N/A
Battlegen: N/A
Position: In between this piece and the rare spawn battle
piece so you can get 3 DP at once! If this is your
first time through then you can fight it anywhere.
Battle Tip: Same as before with Kefka. First time through will
be hard to get the win within 10 seconds DP
Chance, but your next run through will be simple.
Battle 3: - Ephemeral Phantom(Jecht) Lv. 3 - Battle Map: Pandaemonium
For Victory: 1AP, 140 gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 459 CP: 332 BRV: 107 ATK: 15 DEF: 15
LUK: 11)
Equipment: Rusted Armour (HP-662)
Battlegen: N/A
Position: Either in between this one and the one two squares
up on the top if this is your second or more play
through, or on top for your first play through so
you chain with fighting Ultimecia.
Battle Tip: Jecht is pretty annoying to fight in any battle.
His attack lunge him across the screen a fair
distance, making them come unexpectedly out of
nowhere. Dodge his attacks when you see them
coming, and then retaliate.
Battle 4: - Transient Witch(Ultimecia) Lv. 9 - Battle Map: Old Chaos Shrine
For Victory: 1AP, 140gil, 10PP DP Chance: Critical hit
within 10 seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1485 CP: 339 BRV: 109 ATK: 20 DEF: 18
LUK: 14)
Equipment: Charred Helm (BRV-46), Gaia Ring (DMG+15%), Hyper
Ring (DMG+10%), Near Opponent (1.2x Basic
Accessories) x8
Battlegen: Lithe Powder = 20.8%, Lithe Shard = 1.0%
Position: You should have chained with this one with the Jecht
fight.
Battle Tip: Same as always. And just how many times do we
gotta fight Ultimecia before this game is
satisfied, anyways?
Battle 5: - Fallacious Tree(ExDeath) Lv. 8 - Battle Map: The Rift
For Victory: 1AP, 140gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 762 CP: 357 BRV: 90 ATK: 18 DEF: 13
LUK: 14)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46),
Rusted Armour (HP-662), Gaia Ring (DMG+15%),
Guardian Bangle (Def+5%),
Far from Opponent (1.2x Basic Accessories) x8
Battlegen: N/A
Position: Fight him from the right so you get a chain, and
only if you are trying to get to the treasure
behind him on your second play through.
Battle Tip: He’s ExDeath. He sucks. Just beat him.
Battle 6: - Phantasmal Girl(Terra) Lv. 9 - Battle Map: Pandaemonium
For Victory: 1AP, 140 gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 1485 CP: 339 BRV: 95 ATK: 20 DEF: 19
LUK: 14)
Equipment: Charred Helm (BRV-46), Gaia Ring (DMG+15%),
Guardian Bangle (Def+5%), Far from Opponent
(1.2x Basic Accessories) x8
Battlegen: Amplification Powder = 13.0%
Position: If you were ion the right spot, you should have
chained it with ExDeath. Otherwise, fight it
wherever you want to.
Battle Tip: Just like always with Squall, get into her face
with your Gunblade to dampen her might, and you’ll
do just fine.
End: Battle 7: - Warrior of Light Lv. 11 - Battle Map: Crystal World
For Victory: 3AP, 252 gil, 30PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 2034 CP:342 BRV: 208 ATK: 25 DEF: 25
LUK: 15)
Equipment: Broadsword (ATK+4), Bronze Helm (BRV+25,
DEF+1), Bronze Armour (HP+428)
Battlegen: Protect Powder = 21.8%, Protect Shard = 2.0%
Position: There’s only one way to take this guys on.
Battle Tips: Okay, this fight is another pretty
challenging one for first timers and going
through Squalls story for the first time.
Warrior of Light is similar to Squall with
having lots of close and mid ranged attacks,
so you’ll be fighting on the same grounds,
unlike Kuja. All you can really do is get
your attacks off and get out of there before
he gets you. Having you EX Mode during the
fight of course will help the fight a lot.
------------------------
Stage 5: Final Stage
------------------------
This is the final stage of Squall Story mode.
Battle 1: - Fallacious Wanderer(Bartz) Lv. 11 - Battle Map: Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 168 gil, 10PP DP Chance: Critical hit
within 10 seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1 CP: 360 BRV: 3843 ATK: 21 DEF: 22 LUK: 15)
Equipment: Bravery Bonus: 2, Soul of the Destroyer (Initial
BRV +2000%), The Rotten (HP is 1)
Battlegen: Luck Powder = 17.9%, Order of Emptiness = 0.1%
Position: The top
Battle Tip: Same as the last two, don’t get hit. Use EX Mode
if you have it to get the critical hit DP Chance.
Battle 2: - Imaginary Champion(Sephiroth) Lv. 6 - Battle Map: Pandaemonium
For Victory: 1AP, 168 gil, 10PP DP Chance: Win without
taking damage (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 641 CP: 336 BRV: 124 ATK: 16 DEF: 17
LUK: 13)
Equipment: Rusted Armour (HP-662)
Battlegen: N/A
Position: From the bottom.
Battle Tips: Same as the last Sephiroth fight, watch out for
his bravery attacks. This one may be difficult to
get the DP Chance, but do what you can.
Battle 3: - Phantasmal Girl(Terra) Lv. 5 - Battle Map: Ultimecia’s Castle
For Victory: 1AP, 168gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 1242 CP: 335 BRV: 72 ATK: 16 DEF: 15
LUK: 12)
Equipment: Charred Helm (BRV-46)
Battlegen: Amplification Powder = 11.1%, Time Warp = 0.1%
Position: From the right is best.
Battle Tips: In this fight, you’ll want to save up you EX
Burst when it’s at full for the upcoming battle.
Otherwise, you know how to fight Terra; just get
all up in her face with your Gunblade.
Battle 4: - Phantasmal Harlequin(Kefka) Lv. 12 - Battle Map: Crystal World
For Victory: 1AP, 168 gil, 10PP DP Chance: EX Burst within
10 seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1667 CP: 361 BRV: 190 STR: 23 DEF: 22
LUK: 16)
Equipment: Bravery Bonus: 2, Gaia Ring (DMG+15%), Guardian
Bangle (Def+5%), Far from Opponent (1.2x Basic
Accessories) x8
Battlegen: N/A
Position: When first time through, beside this and the other
piece diagonal to it. On second time through, in
between the 3 battle pieces.
Battle Tip: If you saved your EX Burst for this fight, then
you should be able to get the DP Chance.
Battle 5: - Ephemeral Phantom(Jecht) Lv. 6 - Battle Map: The Rift
For Victory: 1AP, 168 gil, 10PP DP Chance: Win within 10
seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1303 CP: 336 BRV: 124 ATK: 18 DEF: 18
LUK: 13)
Equipment: N/A
Battlegen: N/A
Position: Oh Jecht, how I hate thee. Same strategy as the last
battle, watch out for his across-the-field skills.
If you can with in 10 seconds you will get the DP,
though it’ll be hard on your first time through.
Battle 6: - Fallacious Tree(ExDeath) Lv. 11 - Battle Map: The Rift
For Victory: 1AP, 168 gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 1606 CP: 360 BRV: 153 ATK: 21 DEF: 24
LUK: 15)
Equipment: Gaia Ring (DMG+15%), Guardian Bangle (Def+5%), Far
from Opponent (1.2x Basic Accessories) x8
Battlegen: N/A
Position: If this is your first time, use the excuse of
getting the treasure to fight him by chaining him.
Otherwise, you really don’t need to be fighting him.
Battle Tip: C’mon, guys, he freaking ExDeath. I don’t think
you need any more tips to beat him.
End: Battle 7: - Ultimecia Lv. 14 - Battle Map: Ultimecia’s Castle
For Victory: 3AP, 336 gil, 30PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 2171 CP: 345 BRV: 331 ATK: 33 DEF: 24
LUK: 17)
Equipment: Guard Stick (HP+80, ATK+8, DEF+1), Hairpin
(HP-97, BRV+103), Cotton Robes (HP+400, BRV+27),
Gaia Ring (DMG+15%), Phoenix Down (Endure
killing blow with 1 HP), HP = 1 (1.5x), Near
Death (1.5x), Near Loss (1.5x)
Battlegen: Lithe Powder = 23.4%, Lithe Shard = 3.6%, Time
Warp = 0.1%
Position: Does not matter.
Battle Tip: This fight can be tough for beginners. She
basically has two lives, because if you kill
her once, she will survive with 1 HP and you
have to kill her again thanks to the Phoenix
Down item she has equipped. I would recommend
for first timers to take the potion before
fighting this battle to give you max EX Burst.
Other than that, just fight this Ultimecia the
same as you have in the past, but be wary due
to her immense power in comparison to the other
ones you’ve fought.
Congratulations! You have beaten the Story Mode for Squall! Now that you’ve
beaten it, you should have gotten rare treasure and battle piece spawns
to appear. You know what that means… ON TO ROUND 2!

VI. A. A Second Time
-----------------------------
-----------
Stage 1
-----------
Battle 1: - Transient Lion(Squall) Lv. 1 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 56 gil,10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 338 CP: 330 BRV: 49 ATK: 10 DEF: 4 LUK: 10)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46),
Rusted Armour (HP-662)
Battlegen: Bless Powder = 13.1%, Bless Shard = 0.1%,
Order of Emptiness = 0.1%
Position: I would suggest to be below this battle piece to
fight it because you will be able to fight the
Ephemeral Vision right afterwards without losing
DP and to gain a little more exp.
Battle 3: - Delusory Knight(Cecil) Lv. 2 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 56gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 399 CP: 331 BRV: 55 ATK: 11 DEF: 4 LUK: 11)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46),
Rusted Armour (HP-662),
Battlegen: Titan Powder, Order of Emptiness
Position: When fighting this battle piece, I recommend fight
it from the right hand side, because another battle
piece pops up to fight right afterwards.
Battle Tip: Yes, I did skip fight Transient Witch. If you got
the treasure on your last play through, then you
do not need to fight her.
Battle 4: - Phantasmal Girl(Terra) Lv. 2 - Battle Map = Old Chaos Shrine
For Victory: 1AP, 56 gil, 10PP DP Chance: BRV Break within
10 seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 399 CP: 331 BRV: 55 ATK: 13 DEF: 4 LUK: 11)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46),
Rusted Armour (HP-662),
Battlegen: Amplification Powder
Position: Again, if you fought the Delusory Knight on the
right hand side, you will fight this battle piece
automatically. Otherwise, fight it wherever.
Battle 5: - Capricious Thief(Zidane) Lv. 2 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 10PP DP Chance: Win without taking
damage (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1061 CP: 331 BRV: 55 ATK: 10 DEF: 4 LUK: 11)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46)
Battlegen: Power Powder, Order of Emptiness
Position: For this fight it doesn’t really matter, fight it
wherever you want.
------------
Stage 2
------------
This time going through this stage, the summon stone will be available to
grab, and I’d get it right away because it is Bahamut, but it’s the real
deal this time, so you can use it whenever you want.
Battle 1: - Fallacious Tree(ExDeath) Lv. 1 - Battle Map = Old Chaos Shrine
For Victory: 1AP, 84 gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 1000 CP: 350 BRV: 49 ATK: 11 DEF: 6 LUK: 10)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46)
Position: Make sure you fight it from the right hand side,
because another battle piece will spawn beside you
if you do.
Battle 2: - Capricious Thief(Zidane) Lv. 4 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 84 gil, 10PP DP Chance: Win within 10
seconds (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 520 CP: 333 BRV: 78 ATK: 12 DEF: 6 LUK: 12)
` Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46),
Rusted Armour (HP-662), Gaia Ring (DMG+15%),
Guardian Bangle (Def+5%), Far from opponent (1.2x
Basic Accessories) x8
Battlegen: Power Powder = 10.2%, Order of Emptiness = 0.1%
Position: If you were standing to the right of the Fallacious
Tree battle piece, then you will get into this
battle automatically. Otherwise, fight it wherever
you want.
Battle 3: - Delusory Knight(Cecil) Lv. 1 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 84gil, 10PP DP Chance: Keep foe from
getting EX Cores (DP+1)
Stats: (HP: 1000 CP: 330 BRV: 49 ATK: 10 DEF: 3 LUK: 10)
Equipment: Cracked Shield (Def-8), Charred Helm (BRV-46)
Battlegen: Titan Powder = 16.6%, Titan Shard = 0.1%
Position: Attack this piece in between this and the other
golden battle piece so you fight them both on after
the other.
Battle Tip: If you’ve done exactly what I’ve said so far and
gotten all of the DP Chances available, and have
not gotten the summon stone, then you can get the
PuPu summon stone from the DP rewards. For this
fight you have to keep the enemy from getting an
EX Core AND get you EX Burst Bar to the max but
not use a EX Burst to finish the fight; save if
for the next fight.
Battle Tips: Ok, now for our favourite fight; either hit or be
hit. Use your EX burst and wait for him to go
through his Wind Shear ability, then hit him with
a Bravery Attack before the timer run out and you
will hopefully get a critical hit. If not restart
the battle until you do, then finish him off the
usual way.
Battle 5: - Transient Witch(Ultimecia) Lv. 5 - Battle Map = Order’s Sanctuary
For Victory: 1AP, 84 gil, 10PP DP Chance: N/A
Stats: (HP: 580 CP: 335 BRV: 118 ATK: 16 DEF: 6 LUK: 12)

Near Opponent (1.2x Basic Accessories) x8
Battlegen: Lithe Powder = 18.6%, Order of Emptiness = 0.1%
Position: Wherever you want. If you don’t need the healing
potion then I suggest from the top.
-----------
Stage 3

Battle 4: - Phantasmal Harlequin(Kefka) Lv. 7 - Battle Map: Pandaemonium

End: - If you do this, you can get the Flametongue, a nice new sword for
Squall to use, or if you don’t get one of the DP Chances (namely the
fourth one if you don’t have your EX Burst saved up), than you can get
the PuPu summon stone.
-----------
Stage 4
-----------
This will be the first time that you’ll have the chance to really make use
of this stage. The goal is now to get every DP Chance you can until you get
to the item you want.

you should be fighting this piece automatically.
Battle Tip: Ok, this one is hard on the second time through
and you may not even be able to do it. Give it a
whirl though, and if you can’t beat it then just
skip it this time through. She the same as always,
but this time A LOT more powerful. Watch out for
her attacks and bring her down. If you do plan on

best way to beat her is to hit her repeatedly with

Battle Tip: If you just beat Ultimecia, then you technically should
be able to be Garland as well, considering he’s on a

tougher to fight as Squall than Ultimecia is. You want
to save your EX Burst Bar at full for the next battle to
make it easier to get the DP Chance, so you have to kill
Garland without using it. Basically to be him, as soon
as you break him, he’s pretty easy to kill, just don’t
let him break you, or you’ll be in for a world of hurt.

There will be a Rare Spawn piece here, a level 28 Transient Lion, which

it from the right hand side, because another battle
piece pops up to fight right afterwards.
Battle Tip: Yes, I did skip fight Transient Witch. If you got
the treasure on your last play through, then you
do not need to fight her.

Battle Tip: If you’ve done exactly what I’ve said so far and
gotten all of the DP Chances available, and have
not gotten the summon stone, then you can get the
PuPu summon stone from the DP rewards. For this
fight you have to keep the enemy from getting an
EX Core AND get you EX Burst Bar to the max but
not use a EX Burst to finish the fight; save if
for the next fight.

using this guide to help you get through the story if you need it,
but hopefully you’ve memorized some of it by now.
--------------------
VIII. Strategies
--------------------
In this section, I will be going over the appropriate strategies for
fighting each character with Squall when they are at the same or higher
levels. Obviously if the opponent is alot weaker, than just hitting them
is the key rather than strategy, but at the same level or higher, you will
need to play with a little (or a lot) more skill in order to come out
victorious. All of the following strategies are for fighting the CPU;
unfortunately because of where I live, I can't play against real people
to get strategies for fighting them.
--------------------
Warrior of Light
--------------------
Keep your distance from the Warrior of Light until he does and attack,
whether its a bravery or HP attack, then dash in and either use Beat Fang
to do Brave damage or Aerial Circle/Blasting Zone to do HP damage. Rinse
and repeat until the battle is over. Try not to get hit by his bravery
attacks because all of his attacks lead into a combo with an HP attack, and
if he happens to break you during the bravery attack, then you'll take alot
of damage. Don't bother with Rough Divide on him; you probably won't hit
him.
-----------
Garland
-----------
The best way to fight Garland as Squall is to stay close to him, and keep
him in the air. I know, you'd think he'd be a close to mid range fighter
since he carries around a huge sword thing. Well he is, sort of, though
most of his aerial attacks are actually long ranged, but his weakness is
from the rear. Most of his attacks only go forwards, so if you get behind
him with Beat Fang, you'll pretty much always hit him as long as you wait
for an opening after an attack, then you can lead into an HP attack. The
Sneak Attack ability can help you fight him further with this strategy.
----------
Firion
----------
Firion is a little challenging playing as Squall because he likes to block
a lot and follow up with either an attack to your Bravery or your HP. The
key to defeating Firion is to stay aerial because Firion is absolutely
awful when it comes to aerail combat. In fact, the computer AI won't even
leave the ground most of the time unless it has to, so keeping your
distance in the air is pretty easy. Also, don't bother going in with Beat
Fang or Aerial Circle until you know you know you can land the hit, because
many a times I have been hit with his ground attacks because I got greedy.
-----------
Emperor
-----------
Fighting the Emperor is simple for Squall, all you have to do is keep close
to him and keep working away at his bravery and HP until he dies. None of
his abilities seem to be faster than Beat Fang, so it is the perfect
bravery ability to smite him with. The only thing that I have found to be
annoying about him is when he blocks and immediately uses Flare. His other
attacks you can dash right through and/or dodge. Beat Fant and Aerial
Circle does work well here.
----------------
Onion Knight
----------------
Onion is a fairly difficult challenge because of his high speed, and poor
Squall is a slow poke. His sword combo's go right through our key ability
Beat Fang, rendering it rather useless in this fight for the most part. I
found that staying on the ground and hitting him with Fusillade works very
well in comparsion to aerial combat, and the nice thing about fusillade is
that it leads into a Chase, letting you work on his HP that way.
---------------------
Cloud of Darkness
---------------------
Just like her lightend companion, the Cloud of Darkness is easily defeated
with Fusillade. Her whip attacks are very quick and cut through Beat Fang a
lot of the time, so it just is not a very reliable skill for fighting her.
Just keep spamming her with Fusillade and she'll go down eventually. Guard
her whips, and you will be able to connect a hit on her.
----------------
Cecil Harvey
----------------
Cecil took me a while to figure out how to fight properly. Fusillade does
not hit very often, so it's no good. In his Dark Knight Form, Beat Fang is
just completely useless, and if he decides to block instead of dodge (Which
is more frequent), then he'll counter with one of his abilities and Break
you, allow him to get the final blow. {Beat Fang ===> Aerial Circle}
almost never works on Dark Knight Cecil, so don't even bother. Paladin
Cecil is a little easier to hit with Beat Fang, Aerial Circle and
Fusillade, but still pretty challenging. The key ability to use against
Cecil in both forms is Blasting Zone. If you time it right and use it
right after he tries to hit you, then you will almost always land a hit.
Also stay on the ground while fighting Cecil, because he's just as good as
you in the air.
----------
Golbez
----------
Golbez is pretty simple, unlike his brother, to fight. You can use the old
{Beat Fang ===> Aerial Circle} trick, and it will normally always connect.
Just stick close to him and you'll be fine, for the most part. The only
thing you need to weary of is when he blocks, because he will always
counter with and attack, so attack him from behind might also be a good
idea. He also is weak against Squall's Thunder attacks, so Thunder Barret
and the Thunder part of Fusillade also work really well.
-----------------
Bartz Klauser
-----------------
Bartz is just as annoying as Cecil to fight, but you can pull off Beat Fang
and Aerial Circle on him sometimes. His speed over Cecil is what makes him
just as challenging. Blasting Zone, like on Cecil, work very well, and in
my opinion, is the only way you should be trying to fight him rather than
getting a few Beat Fangs off. Several of his Brave skills lead into either
chases or HP attacks, so be aware.
-----------
ExDeath
-----------
This guy is a pushover, you can use any ability you want and you have a
fairly high chance to hit him with it. The only thing I do not normally
use is Beat Fang from the front because if he blocks it, he'll get in a
free hit. His teleportation spell leaves him WIDE open, so hit him with
all you got then.
------------------
Terra Branford
------------------
For fighting Terra, you want to make sure you are really close to her.
{Beat Fang ===> Aerial Circle} does work on her, and is the easiest thing
to kill her with. The only ability to really need to worry about from her
besides a few Bravery Attacks when in close combat is Tornado. Don't let
her break you if you can, because she will then just destroy you. If she
goes into EX Mode, I normally just back off and dodge her attacks until it
wears off; I don't like to leave myself open with attacks during that time.
-----------------
Kefka Palazzo
-----------------
Beat Fang works extraordinarily well against the creepy clown, so make sure
to stay aerial and right in his face with your Gunblade. Aerial Circle
may miss once or twice, but all in all it is a good HP Attack to use on
him. At the end of the day, Kefka is a really easy opponent for Squall,
so show him the power of the lion.
----------------
Cloud Strife
----------------
Fighting Cloud in close quarters combat does work, but be prepared to take
as much damage as you deal, maybe more. I found Fusillade works very well
against Cloud until the killing blow from the chase, and then you can
finish him off with an Aerial Circle or something. His Braver ability in my
opinion is the most deadly, but at the same time fairly easy to dodge.
Don't let him corner you and keep your distance if you want an easy
victory.
-------------
Sephiroth
-------------
Sephiroth has a lot of range in this attacks, so fighting at range can be
a bit of a hassle for Squall, though Fusillade does hit hit fairly often.
If you are trying to use close ranged attacks, try to attack him from
behind because when he blocks your attack, he can really get you into
some mean combos. Other than that, just watch for the timing of his skills;
they're fairly simple to dodge if you're paying attention.
-------------------
Squall Leonhart
-------------------
The Mirrior Match, he makes VERY good use of our favourite skill, the Beat
Fang, and to be quite honest, unless your on the ball, he'll use it faster
than you most of the time. What the computer AI doesn't fight very well
against is long ranged combat, so Fusillade works pretty well in this
situation. Try not to let him get too close, or if you do, be the first to
land a Beat Fang, or be prepared to get hit, and probably a lot. If he
retaliates with the same ability (or it's aerial match), than just simple
dodge out of the way and try again. The simplest way to get out of a Beat
Fang spam is the block, by the way.
-------------
Ultimecia
-------------
Just like all of the other magic caster in the game, she excels in long
ranged combat. As Squall arch nemesis, she's actually really simple to
beat. Beat Fang ===> Aerial Circle works best on her, so make sure to be
right in her face and attack away. Watch out for he dagger spell; it's kind
of irritating.
-----------------
Zidane Tribal
-----------------
He's a speedy little devil, so Beat Fang does not work as well in this
environment. Fusillade and Blasting Zone seem to be effective against him,
so hit him with those abilities. Don't get too cocky when being forced to
fight him up close, his dagger skills are nimble and land hits quite often
against our slow Squall.
--------
Kuja
--------
Just another magic caster to unleash our fury on. He isn't very hard to
beat as Squall thanks to Beat Fang; break him, then hit him with either
Aerial Circle or Blasting Zone. Some of his spells leave him quite open
while casting, so make sure to pay attention so you can land the killing
blow.
---------
Tidus
---------
Fight Tidus up close is a bad mistake, he's a speedy kinda guy, so he'll
hit you with one of his attacks before you can pull something off normally.
Long ranged combat works well against him, so Fusillade and Blasting Zone
are nice. Don't chase him with Fusillade, though, he seems to be a little
harder to hit than other characters. All of his attack are quick except the
blitzball long ranged skill, so dodging or blocking them can be difficult.
---------
Jecht
---------
Watch out for his bravery abilities, they do A LOT of damage to your
bravery. His attacks also have alot of range, so close and mid combat
might not always be the best way to fight him, although hitting him with
abilities like Beat Fang and Aerial Circle is not hard. Fusillade will also
work if you want to do chase attack; Blasting Zone does not seem to hit
him very often, so avoid using it.
-------------
Shantotto
-------------
To kick this opponent in the taru, close quarters combat is where it's at.
she only has a select few annoying abilities to worry about when up close,
so go to town with her and dodge/block often. Beat Fang and Aerial circle
seem to work the best against her.
------------
Gabranth
------------
This guy isn't too hard to beat, I find. Beat Fang, Heel Crush, Aerial
Circle, Blasting Zone; they all seem to land hits on a regular basis with
him. When he does do an attack, just dodge out of the way, or even better
yet, block the attack and leave him open for a free hit.
---------
Chaos
---------
As of yet, I've been unable to defeat a level 100 Chaos, so I do not have
an effective way to fight him. When I can manage to beat him, I'll let you
know.
