# 1. Introduction #
#########################################################################
I've played Castlevania: SotN a few weeks ago for the first time (shame
on me for waiting so long^^) and it's definitely one of the best games I've
ever played! Therefore I decided to go for a 100%-Save Game and write
a guide about it. This guide contains the requirements for 100% (at least
what I think are the requirements; of course this is only subjective!),
some tips, calculations and probably some other useful stuff. :)
I've never made an FAQ before and English is not my native language, so
don't be too harsh if you spot mistakes. :)
Feel free to send me an E-Mail to Max_payne2004(at)gmx(dot)de with
suggestions or questions.

# 2. Map Completion #
#########################################################################
Without using glitches the maximum Map percentage is 200.6%. If you follow
ZKeene's FAQ, you will most likely end up having a complete Map. If not, simply
check the Maps in the ''Maps and Charts''-Section.

# 3. Levels and Stats #

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3.1 Best Starting Stats
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First of all you have to decide if you either want max. HP or max. MP/HEARTS.
YOU CAN'T GET BOTH ON ONE FILE!
I prefer max. HP over MP/HEARTS because it's harder to get and max. HP simply
looks better than max. MP in my opinion. ;)
3.1.1 Max. HP
If you want max. HP, you have to defeat Dracula at the beginning in
1:00 minute or below without using sub-weapons and without getting
hit. This is not possible on your first playthrough though, due to the dialogue
with Dracula. On a REPLAY File you can skip all the dialogues, so you
have to beat the game at least once before you can get max. HP or MP/HEARTS.
To beat Dracula in only 1 minute without using sub-weapons you have
to hit Dracula's first form seven or eight times with the Air Dash and his
second form several more times. You can land critical hits with the Air Dash,
so it differs from try to try how many hits you'll need to beat him. And don't
let him teleport more than twice during his first form, or otherwise
you probably won't defeat him in under 1 minute. Therefore you'll need to hit
him four times with the Air Dash before he teleports! Dracula's second form
is a bit easier than his first. Just make sure that you don't get hit and
continue to attack with the Air Dash. This video shows exactly what you
have to do:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5gnXt77FJs
After the fight you'll start with the following stats:
=============================================================
|| 85 HP, 25 MP, 55 HEARTS, 14 STR, 13 CON, 13 INT, 17 LCK ||
=============================================================
3.1.2 Max. MP/HEARTS
If you want max. MP/HEARTS, you have to defeat Dracula in 1:00 minute
or below while holding the Cross sub-weapon and without getting hit.
This is A LOT easier than defeating him without any sub-weapon.
Collect the Cross and at least 45 Hearts before the fight (use the
Super Jump to reach the secret floor, you don't have to use the stairway).
When Dracula first appears, collect the Holy Water and activate the
Hydro Storm. This should be enough to finish off his first form.
After that collect the cross again or otherwise it will disappear. Now only
cast two more Hydro Storms (and collect the Cross afterwards) to finish
off his second form. And make sure that you finish the fight
while holding the Cross.
After the fight you'll start with the following stats:
=============================================================
|| 80 HP, 30 MP, 60 HEARTS, 13 STR, 12 CON, 12 INT, 12 LCK ||
=============================================================
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3.2 Level Ups
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3.2.1 HP
The amount of HP you gain per Level is not random so you don't have to worry
about this on your journey to Level 99!
=====================================================================
You will have 4918 HP at Level 99 if you start with 85 HP and collect
all Life Max Ups.
=====================================================================
Therefore you will have 4913 HP if you start with 80 HP.
3.2.2 MP
Unfortunately unlike HP the amount of MP you gain per Level is random.
You either get 4 or 5 MP per Level Up. This means for a perfect game you
always need 5 MP per Level which makes things a lot more time consuming.
To get 5 MP per Level you should get as close as possible to a Level Up
and then save your game. If you get 4 MP after the Level Up, reload your
game until you get 5 MP.
===================================================================
You will have 520 MP at Level 99 if you start with 30 MP and always
get 5 MP after a Level Up.
===================================================================
Therefore you will have 515 MP if you start with 25 MP.
3.2.3 HEARTS
Like the HP, the amount of HEARTS you gain per Level is not random so you
don't have to worry about this either.
============================================================================
You will have 421 HEARTS at Level 99 if you start with 60 HEARTS and collect
all Heart Max Ups.
============================================================================
Therefore you will have 416 HEARTS if you start with 55 HEARTS.
3.2.4 STR/CON/INT/LCK
The cap for the four stats is 99 (198 with equipment) and it doesn't matter if
you beat Dracula with the Cross or without any sub-weapon to get these stats
to 99. The increase for the stats is random and there are five different
possibilities for a Level Up:*
- Any one stat +1 ~21.05% for this to happen.
- Any one stat +2 ~21.05% for this to happen.
- Any two stats +1 ~31.58% for this to happen.
- Any three stats +1 ~21.05% for this to happen.
- All four stats +1 ~5.26% for this to happen.
*These informations are from ZKeene's FAQ!
You should only concentrate on either any three stats +1 or all four stats +1.
If you get one of the other three possibilities after a Level Up, better reload
your game!
To get all four stats to 99 you need a total of 396 points (4*99), the
good thing is that you already start with 57 points if you beat Dracula without
any sub-weapon or with 49 points if you beat him while holding the Cross.
If you start with 57 points, you ''only'' need 339 more points (396-57)
therefore it's enough to get the ''All four stats +1-Level Up'' 45 times and
the ''Any three stats +1-Level Up'' 53 times. (45*4+53*3=339)
If you start with 49 points, you'll need to get the
''All four stats +1-Level Up'' 53 times and the
''Any three stats +1-Level Up'' 45 times. (53*4+45*3=347)
And always make sure that all four stats are equal or above your current Level.
Here is a little example:
If your current Level is 60, your stats should look like this:
STR 60 (or above)
CON 60 (or above)
INT 60 (or above)
LCK 60 (or above)
If your stats look like this at Level 60,
STR 59
CON 60
INT 60
LCK 60
you could only get CON,INT and LCK to 99!
If your stats look like this at Level 74,
STR 74
CON 75
INT 74
LCK 74
and you get +1STR, +1CON and +1INT for the Level Up, reload your game
because you couldn't get all stats to 99 in this case! +1STR, +1INT and +1LCK
instead would be ok however.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3.3 Fastest Way to Level 99
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fight the Guardians in the Black Marble Gallery near the giant clock until
you reach Level 67 (at this point you still get about 100EXP from them.)
After that go to room with the Spectral Sword in the Anti-Chapel (take the
eastern exit of the Reverse Collosseum to get there) and equip the
Power of Sire and a Duplicator. Use the Power of Sire, exit the room,
re enter it and use the Power of Sire on the respawned Spectral Sword again.
And then just keep repeating this over and over and when you are close to a
Level Up save at the nearby Save Point so that you can reload your game for a
perfect Level Up with 5 MP and +3 or 4 Stats. Every time you enter the room
and use the Power of Sire you get 10 EXP and you can get around 600 EXP
per minute this way. It still takes some time to get to Level 99, but 600 EXP
per minute isn't too bad at all!
From Level 67 to 99 you need a total of 571999 EXP and with 600EXP
per minute you need about 953 minutes (571999/600) or ~16 hours to get to
Level 99. Unfortunately this doesn't include the time to reset and reload your
game to get a perfect Level Up. So all in all you'll probably need ~20-25 hours
to get from Level 67 to 99 with perfect stats.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3.4 Familiars
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Familiars will reach Level 99 a lot earlier than Alucard so don't worry
about them. Just make sure to activate another Familiar after one of them
has reached Level 99 because only Familiars that are active gain EXP and
keep in mind that the Familiars don't get EXP anymore once Alucard has
reached Level 99.
#########################################################################
# 4. Spells #
#########################################################################
Simply cast all eight Spells at least once so that they'll show up in the
Spell Menu. Nothing more to do here. :)
U = Up, D = Down, B = Back, F = Forward
Dark Metamorphosis: B, UB, U, UF, F + [] or O (MP 10)
Hellfire: U, D, DF, F + [] or O (MP 15)
Summon Spirit: B, F, U, D + [] or O (MP 5)
Tetra Spirit: Hold U for 2 seconds, UF, F, DF, D + [] or O (MP 20)
Soul Steal: B, F, DF, D, DB, B, F + [] or O (MP 50)
Wolf Charge: D, DF, F + [] or O (Must be in Wolf form.) (MP 10)
Wing Smash: Hold X + U, UB, B, DB, D, DF, F + release X
(Must be in Bat form) (MP 8)
Sword Brothers: D, DF, F, UF, Hold U for 2 seconds, D + [] or O
(Sword Familiar must be active.) (MP 30)
#########################################################################
# 5. Items #
#########################################################################
Get all 28 Relics and every Item at least once! I don't list all the Items here
because you can find a complete list in ZKeene's FAQ so it's not necessary
and I'm a bit lazy too. ;)
Oh, and by the way I don't think you need to get every Item x 99 for 100%.
The reason for this is:
1. I really don't see a point in this.
2. I don't want to know how many hours it takes alone to get 99 Diamonds with
the Jewel Sword.
3. It's simply not possible because some Items are unique! (Alucart Set,
Alucard Set, Gold Ring, Silver Ring...)
If you still want to collect 99 of every non-unique Item, just go ahead. :)
#########################################################################
# 6. Master Libraria #
#########################################################################
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6.1 Enemy List
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For 100% you need a complete Enemy List. This means not only all 146 Enemies
should be in the list, but also the Items they drop (if they drop Items at all).
For example the entry for the Guardian should look like this:
---------------------------------------------------
Guardian No. 143
LV 60 HP 500 Strong VS.
CUT
Immune
FIR THU ICE
Weak VS.
None
Absorb
DRK
Drop Items
Great Sword
God's Garb
Exp 1500
High level Armor Lord.
---------------------------------------------------
For a complete Enemy List check the Bestiary that you find in the
''In-Depth FAQ''-Section.
=====================================================================
Keep in mind that there are three missable enemies in the game!
1. No. 8 Warg - Kill at least one Warg in the beginning!
Once you enter the Alchemy Laboratory they
will dissapear for the rest of the game.
2. No. 61 Mudman - When you fight the Lesser Demon in the
Long Library wait until it summons a Mudman!
THIS IS THE ONLY CHANCE IN THE GAME TO
ENCOUNTER A MUDMAN!
3. No. 140 Richter
Belmont - When you fight Richter hit him one or two times
before you destroy the green orb. If you only
concentrate on the green orb, Richter won't
show up in the Enemy List.
=====================================================================
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6.2 Boss Tactics
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just buy all the Boss Tactic Demos from the Master Librarian. You need
78300 Gold to buy all of them. Combined with all the unique Items that
the Master Librarian sells, you need a total of 671303 Gold so make sure to
farm some money.
There is a candle with a $2000 bag in the Reverse Caverns or you could use
the Jewel Sword to get enough money to buy everything necessary for 100%.
##########################################################################
# 7. 100%! What's next? #
##########################################################################
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
7.1 The extra .6%
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well done! At this point you have a 100%-File in Castlevania SotN!
In my opinion you don't need a Muramasa with max. ATK for 100%, but you
could say that this is for the extra .6% to get a 100.6%-File. ;)
7.1.1 Badelaire
Power increases with gameplay
After 99 hours the Badelaire will have its max. ATK of 99. This shouldn't
be too hard to get because if you want a Muramasa with max. ATK, you
need more than 99 hours of playtime anyway. If you don't care about leveling
the Muramasa, you probably don't care about getting a Badelaire with
max. ATK either. Otherwise just leave the game on for 99 hours. :)
7.1.2 Muramasa
Bloodthirsty sword
The bad news is that it takes a long, long time to get a Muramasa with 999 ATK.
The good news is that if you have a Turbo Controller or if you play on a
PSP with CFW you can auto-level the Muramasa!
However, I start with some basic stuff about the Muramasa.
The Muramasa starts with -5 ATK (for some reason you can read in some other
FAQs that it starts with +5 ATK, but -5 ATK seems to be correct) and it gets
stronger when you absorb a certain amount of blood (of course you can only
absorb blood from enemies that can actually bleed) therefore it's not enough to
just kill the enemies. Unfortunately the amount of blood you need to
further strengthen the Muramasa increases by two with every ATK-point it gains.
================================================================
The formula to gain an ATK-point with the Muramasa is
[(Muramasa ATK*2)+11]*
From -5 ATK to -4 ATK you need 1 blood absorption. ((-5*2)+11)
From -4 ATK to -3 ATK you need 3 blood absorptions. ((-4*2)+11)
From 0 ATK to +1 ATK you need 11 blood absorptions. ((0*2)+11)
From +9 ATK to +10 ATK you need 29 blood absorptions. ((9*2)+11)
From +99 ATK to +100 ATK you need 209 blood absorptions. ((99*2)+11)
From +499 ATK to +500 ATK you need 1009 blood absorptions. ((499*2)+11)
From +998 ATK to +999 ATK you need 2007 blood absorptions. ((998*2)+11)
*Unequip everything (also the Tooth of Vlad) besides the Muramasa and then
subtract your current STR from your ATT to see the actual ATK of the Muramasa.
(ATT-STR=Muramasa ATK) )
=================================================================
If you have a Turbo Controller or a PSP with Custom Firmware, I really suggest
that you auto-level your Muramasa!
To auto-level the weapon you need to go to a small vertical hallway in the
Black Marble Gallery that is directly east of the room where you fight Shaft.
In this hallway Medusa Heads come from only one direction so this makes it the
perfect room to auto-level the Muramasa. Place Alucard a little away from either
the left or right wall in the hallway and do the following:
With a Turbo Controller: Use Auto-Rapidfire for either the O or []-button, this
way Alucard will slash permanently. If your controller only has ''normal''
Rapidfire, use a rubber band to fix the O or []-button with it.
With the PSP: This only works if you have a Custom Firmware on your PSP!
Install the Macrofire Plugin on your PSP, then press ''VOL+'' and ''VOL-''
together during the game to access the menu and there set either the
O or []-button to Auto-Rapidfire.
It takes about a full week (!) or maybe even more to get your Muramasa up to
999 ATK this way, but as you don't have to play yourself it isn't that bad. :)
If you don't have a Turbo Controller or if you don't want to auto-level the
Muramasa for some reason, go to the room filled with Dark Octopuses in the
western part of the Reverse Caverns, equip the Blood Cloak and everything
that lowers your INT (two Duplicators, Sunglasses, Walk Armor), grab the
Dagger subweapon and then throw daggers at an Octopus and absorb its
blood. If you run out of hearts, simply run into an Octopus to restore your
hearts. Compared to the auto-leveling trick you absorb a lot more blood this
way, but it still takes probably a few complete days to get the Muramasa
up to 999 ATK so it's not recommended to try to get a Muramasa with
max. ATK unless you can auto-level it!
#########################################################################
# 8. Glitch Map #
#########################################################################
With glitches you can bring your Map up to over 400%! This is of course
not required for a 100%-File, but I still list it because it's an interesting
aspect in SotN. I don't give you any informations about map glitching in this
FAQ so if you want further informations just check the website
worldbeyondwalls.com !
