INTRODUCTION-------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to a guide for Yet Another Obscure Japanese RPG. This is a characters
guide to Zill O'll Infinite, a PS2 remake of the a PS free scenario RPG. As far
as I'm aware, this game is virtually unheard of over in the US, and I'm not
sure it's ever going to be localized. The graphics and combat system appear
somewhat dated, and certainly aren't eye candy the way most of Koei's other
games are, but the impressive thing about ZO is the huge variety of events and
occurrences scripted into the game.
I won't write a walkthrough, as that defeats the entire purpose of a free-
scenario RPG; nor will I get into combat and item lists, because frankly, the
combat in this game is ridiculously simple. This FAQ is about the characters
that comprise 90% of the game's content: how to get them to join your party,
what their various events are, etc. I highly recommend just playing through the
game on your own at least once to get a feel for it before referring to this
FAQ.
The usual disclaimers apply: I'm fishing romanizations and translations out of
in-game text and/or the artbook where that applies, but use my own translations
when there aren't any, and take some liberties with the official romanizations
("Roy" instead of "Loi", for instance). Phrases, locations etc are for the most
part translated literally, though I have taken a few liberties to convey
approximate meaning without having results 20 words long that wish they were
written in kanji. This guide assumes knowledge of Japanese.
Additional disclaimer would be that it's a really long game with a lot of
different possible outcomes for all the events, and I haven't been able to get
around to all of them yet. There's also usually multiple ways to get any one
result, and testing every single one of them is highly prohibitive time-wise.
I don't have a guidebook so my only method of testing flags and event
triggers/conditions is trial and error. Additional information is always
welcome.
And of course, as with any FAQ, this is chock-full of spoilers, so read at your
own risk. I've tried to leave out specific detail on plot, but will make heavy
reference to major events.

SECTION 2: BASIC INFORMATION
===============================================================================
This section deals with things like Affinity and combat-related information and
basic stuff that applies to all characters. Generally, characters fall into one
of three categories:
1) non-plot characters. People like Dergaad and Fety have their own character
specific events, but aren't involved in any major historical happenings, and
can be recruited into the party fairly easily at any time. These characters
rarely ever get in trouble or die, but the disadvantage is that since they
have fewer events and you can't usually talk to them before they join your
party, it's hard to raise Affinity and get their endings.
2) plot party members. Most of the major characters like the generals or the
ruling class of either of the large countries are heavily involved in major
historical events. As such, what happens to them depends largely on what you
do during those events. Some of these characters can be left alone until
certain events where you suddenly recruit them, while others if left to
their own devices will either quietly drop dead in the background while
you're not looking or go down in spectacularly messy fashion, often taking a
number of bystanders with them.
3) plot NPCs. Priestesses, princesses, the lot fall into this category. They're
basically the same as the plot party members RE: death and messiness, except
they have the additional complication that if you fulfil the ending
conditions for one of them, you can't stop their ending because as they're
not a party member it's not necessary or possible to bring them along to
fight the final boss; thus, you can't see the endings for any character who
has a lower priority.
-STARTING LOCATION-------------------------------------------------------------
As you start the game, you can pick from one of 6 different starting locations
depending on the gender of your protagonist: 2 for male characters, 2 for
female characters, 1 common to both, and another common to both that's only
available after you finish the game once.
The starting location only influences the starting event, after which you're
free to do as you like. As a general rule of thumb, there will be one
character, usually the starting partner, whose ending is only available if you
start from that location.
-ROSTORL (royal capital)---------------
Gender: Male
Partner: Irene
Notes: Nothing particularly special; however, it is possible to lose Irene
halfway through, possibly permanently if you don't follow up on her
events. Irene's ending is only available from this starting location.
-TERANE (calm rural village)----------------------
Gender: Male
Partner: Naji
Notes: As with Irene, it's possible to lose Naji later in the game.
-MYSE (village not even on the map)---------------
Gender: Female
Partner: Sera
Notes: For obvious reasons you can't actually go to Myse if you start from
any other location. Sera's ending is only available from this starting
location.
-NOBLE (fields of shimmering gold)----------------
Gender: Female
Partner: Chaka
Notes: Chaka doesn't appear in any other starting scenario, so naturally his
ending is only available with this starting location. You also
automatically become the Countess of Noble. You can't enter the town
of Noble until after the 1st invasion of Rostorl with this scenario.
-NOBLE (small village in your travels)------------
Gender: Either
Partner: Luluantha
Notes: Although you start in the same town, this produces a vastly different
starting story than the "fields of shimmering gold" one. Luluantha's
ending is only available from this scenario, and you cannot become the
Count(ess) of Noble.
-OSWALD (place of beginnings)----------------------
Gender: Either
Partner: Relra Lonton
Notes: Available after you clear the game once. Astiya's ending etc etc (no,
she's not a playable character)
-AFFINITY----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like a dating sim, every party member and quite a number of non party members
have an Affinity rating with your protagonist, which influences what events you
can see, whether they join your party, and sometimes whether they survive
certain occurrences. In most cases it's not possible to actually lower anyone's
affinity.
Affinity has 5 different stages, from lowest to highest: Cold, Acquaintance,
Slightly Friendly, Friendly, Trust, Love, and Adoration. Normally to get a
character's ending their Affinity has to be at Love or better. Note that there
are point variations within those categories, ie you can have two characters
both at Friendly but one have a slightly higher Affinity in actuality than the
other.
Raising affinity:
1) character specific events. If you rescue them from being kidnapped, fight
for them in a war, save their long-lost sister from the evil influence of
demons, and so forth. These are all theoretical examples, of course.
2) dragging them around a lot. Finishing quests and leveling while they're in
your party has some miniscule impact on Affinity, and for those characters
who aren't major history movers, that's the only reliable way to raise their
Affinity. It takes a long, long time.
3) meeting the character when they're not a party member. Some potential party
members hang out at certain locations after you've met them at least once,
and talking to them raises their Affinity. This effect only happens once per
day, so if you want to raise Affinity, either sleep at the inn or go to a
dungeon and come back. The one exception to this is Air: you can keep
raising Affinity by talking to her even if it's not another day.
You can check Affinity by talking to Nemo. Just about every party member other
than Orphaus and Roy are on Nemo's list, and a good rule of thumb is that the
random other characters on the list are ones you can get endings for. Nemo will
also tell you if a character's dead, which is somewhat useful in the cases
where people go missing.
Some of the other major characters (read, those that have portraits) who are
not on Nemo's list, such as Zerashel or Elfas, also have Affinity, but you can
only guess at what it is depending on how many times you've met them and what
they say.
-CHOICES-----------------------------------------------------------------------
None of the choices in the game are communist choices, and will influence
events. However, in almost every case the results of the choices you pick is
pretty transparent, so I won't go into detail on most of them. If you're
looking to save and recruit extra characters, in almost every case the standard
RPG formula of dogged persistence and poking your nose into everyone else's
business pays off. Being a forgiving saint ala Gensou Suikoden is probably
also a good route to take; it's not quite the case where Random Obnoxious Jerk
is actually the 67th Star of Destiny, but you get the general idea. I'll
explain the exceptions in the character specific sections.
-INN EVENTS--------------------------------------------------------------------
Every now and then, as you stop over at an inn, you'll get a small scene with
one of your active party members. In most cases this is indicative of character
specific plot threads. For party members who join but have outstanding issues,
clearing those will also let you see an inn event where the character comes to
gripswith whatever problems they have and attain cosmic harmony or something
along those lines. In this case that's indicative of having finished their plot
threads and (usually) means you can get their ending.
-COMBAT------------------------------------------------------------------------
To be honest, the combat system in the game is highly abusable and most of the
bosses aren't very hard. You can get away with any number of funky party
combinations if you wanted to, and sometimes scheduling, events, etc force you
to use weird party configurations. This usually isn't a problem.
Note that potential party members level according to what Souls they have
equipped. The later characters usually have slightly better default Souls to
make up for this, but there're some exceptions such as Irene. Character who tag
along temporarily as NPCs in the 5th slot you can spend Soul Points and buy
Souls/Skills for, so you can switch to better Souls and they'll have better
stats when they do join.
-RACIAL BONUS-------------------------------------
Occasionally a racial bonus is applied to a non-human character on levelup.
It's not usually enough to completely skew how you want the character to turn
out, but will sometimes make a difference in the long run. The racial bonuses
are:
Elf: +1 INT, +1 MIN, -1 VIT
Dwarf: +1 STR, +1 DEX, -1 AGI
Corns: +1 MIN, +1 AGI, -1 DEX
Lirbi: +1 AGI, +1 DEX, -1 STR
Bordan: +1 STR, +1 VIT, -1 INT
Darkenis: +1 STR, +1 INT, -1 VIT
Yuris: +1 VIT, -1 INT
Note that while we believe Yuris to be human, she gets a mysterious "bonus" of
sorts to her stats, possibly as a result of hardiness acquired during
experimentation. Similarly, Chaka gets the same modifiers every time he's
whacked upside the head by his sister.
-INTRINSIC ABILITIES------------------------------
Some characters come with intrinsic abilities that you can't make others learn,
namely Double Blade and Union Spell. While Union Spell is available to any 3
characters (+the protagonist, and either Nemea or Aoife if they happen to be in
the NPC slot when you get it), Orphaus and Belzevar begin with Union Spell.
Double Blade can be learned by the protagonist if you fight Reig twice (you
don't have to win). Characters who start with Double Blade are Reig, Lemghon,
and Belzevar.
-UNIQUE GEAR---------------------------------------
Generally speaking a smithed weapon or one of the unique weapons you find in
any of the numerous dungeons is better than a character's unique weapon towards
the end of the game, but they're useful in the beginning, and some characters
have rather nifty unique weapons. Most of the unique weapons you can't de-
equip. You also can't enchant or temper these items, which is a bit of a pain.
Characters with unique weapons/armor are:
Nemea: Lance of Destruction (Shadow spear), Nemea's Armor (resist Silence,
Blind, Confuse)
Sera: Moonshine (Shadow sword)
Roy: Sunlight (Holy dagger)
Xenetes: Seven Dragon Sword (Wind greatsword) *removable
Reig: Steel Blade, Flash Blade (Neutral sword)
Lemghon: Battle Blade x2 (Neutral sword)
Belzevar: Battle Blade x2 (Neutral sword)
Zagiv: Demon Flame (Shadow gauntlets), Black Bustier (resist Illusion)
Karla: Death Scythe (Neutral spear, +dark, confuse), Blue Mage Armor
Aoife: Emer's Bow (Wind bow) *removable
Eons: Alhir (Neutral mace)
Orphaus: Magic Volt (Neutral gauntlet), Sage's Robes
Yuris: Magical Stick (Neutral dagger)
===============================================================================
SECTION 3: PARTY MEMBERS
===============================================================================
List of all the party members and how to get them to join. Note that no
characters are mutually exclusive and it is possible to get all of them, though
that requires a lot of running around and a bit of luck with timing.
-DINGAL CHARACTERS-------------------------------------------------------------
Movers and shapers of history. Most of these guys require some amount of effort
to save, though not nearly as mindbendingly complex as the Rostorl crowd.
===============================================================================
NEMEA (DINGAL LANGASTER)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Nemea is essentially an NPC filling your 5th party slot for the
final dungeon. There's no particular effort involved in getting him
to join and you can't get him killed. Think of him as a natural
disaster waiting to happen. His fixed equipment are Nemea's Armor
and the Lance of Destruction, which unfortunately is Shadow
Element, in a dungeon full of Shadow Element bosses. Nemea's
default Soul is Shining Leo.
CONDITIONS: See above.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
AOIFE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Aoife joins very late into the game, but she also tags along as an
NPC for awhile, which means that if you complete the Union Spell
event while she's an NPC, she'll learn that ability along with your
normal party members. Getting her to join simply involves
completing a chain of rather obvious events. Aoife's default Soul
is Arbalest, and her unique weapon is Elmer's Bow.
CONDITIONS: You'll encounter Aoife anyway during the course of the story, and
fight her a few times to boot. She joins the party very late in the
game, after the 2nd invasion of Rostorl.
1) this event is not necessary to get her to join, but is necessary
to get her ending. Between the fall of Aquiris and the 2nd
invasion of Rostorl, you'll meet some travelers exiting Rostorl
who talk about bandits on the road between Rostorl and Liberdam.
If you then travel between Rostorl and Liberdam, you'll
encounter an event involving Aoife, who asks you to deliver a
letter to Karla in Rosen.
2) after the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, you'll find Aoife and her
party in Ancient's town square. She'll ask you to escort her to
Elles, and disappear during the subsequent event. Note that if
you're pressed for time to save Naji from the Corns Rebellion
event, you can put off escorting Aoife (just drag her along as
an NPC) until you finish the Corns Rebellion, but delaying much
more than that will make Aoife storm off in a huff.
3) after visiting Elles, talk to Orphaus in the Cat House, who'll
tell you to go investigate the Crevasse of the Evil Dragon, near
Liberdam. You can put off talking to Orphaus for a long time,
but once you get the information too much delay on investigating
it will get Aoife killed. After the sequence of events in the
Crevasse, Aoife joins.
MISC: Note that step 2 wants you to talk to Air. If you've killed Air,
this event doesn't happen and you can't get Aoife.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
BELZEVAR (BELLAINE)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Unlike most other characters, getting Belzevar to join has nothing
to do with his Affinity. We're also not sure just what his gravity-
defying hair actually means. Belzevar's default Soul is Lawful
Blade, his unique weapons are a pair of Battle Blades, and he
starts with Union Spell.
CONDITIONS: Actually meeting Belzevar isn't hard, but until you get invited to
his office he's rather hard to track down. You first encounter him
very early on, before Nemea's succession, in Ancient's town square.
Aftewards:
1) after Nemea's succession, meet Belzevar in front of Lylanette's
temple, next to the graveyard
2) you'll find him again at the top of the Tower of Magic, talking
to Sharome
3) next, go to the gates of Ancient's palace, at which point he'll
invite you to his office
4) keep visiting his office until he tells you about his parents.
Note that if you received Angeerdan's recruitment letter, the
guards at the gate will keep babbling about that instead of
letting you in to see Belzevar, but that shouldn't be too much
of a problem as you have until the 2nd invasion of Rostorl to
see that event.
5) after the supression of the Corns' Rebellion, go to Belzevar's
office to start the Soul Reap event. Note that Ancient will
become a ghost town afterwards so it's best to finish up any
other events you might have there first. If you don't have Zagiv
in your party when this event begins, Zagiv will die.
Alternately, if you enter Ancient after completing Zagiv's event
at the Seaspray Islands, Soul Reap begins immediately and you
won't have a chance to rescue Belzevar. Ideally, you want to go
to Ancient with Zagiv [see Zagiv's section] before Soul Reap
occurs. Also note that Soul Reap will occur automatically (ie,
you walk into the town and it's empty) after you've passed
through a certain number of towns/dungeons after Nemea
disappears.
6) after escaping from Ancient, Belzevar says something about
underwater ruins and runs off. The ruins he's talking about are
at the Illusory Lake, near Noble (you can ask various party
members for advice on this one). Go to the ruins at the bottom
of the lake (putz around for quests to get it to appear on the
map if necessary), defeat the boss there to get Belzevar. And
you might as well check the coffin to get Advent while you're
there.
MISC: 1) Belzevar's inn event occurs after you defeat the Dragon King on
his island.
2) every time you do something contrary to Nemea's goals (getting
the Dark Relics, joining the war vs Dingal), Belzevar appears in
front of Ancient's castle to berate you for it, and his Affinity
drops to Cold. This has no impact whatsoever on getting him to
join your party, but is something to note if you're trying to
get his ending.
3) talking to Belzevar in his office doesn't appear to raise his
Affinity, or at least only raises it marginally.
4) it's possible to get Belzevar killed if you either run out of
time or simply don't witness the Soul Reap event. In either
case, if you don't release Sharome beforehand, Belzevar just
dies. If you did release Sharome, you can fight Belzevar on top
of the Tower of the New Moon.
5) and if you fail Soul Reap and released Sharome beforehand but
don't fight Belzevar on the tower, he appears as the recovery
NPC instead of Karla during the final sequences of battles.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
ZAGIV (DINGAL)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: While it's not that difficult to get Zagiv to join, it's possible
to lose her near the end if you don't keep her in your party
through a certain event sequence. Zagiv's default soul is Augustia,
and her unique weapon is the Demon Flame.
CONDITIONS: Meeting Zagiv is quite easy - she appears randomly at the cemetery
in Ancient anytime after you visit the Cat House at the beginning
of the game.
1) keep going to the cemetery whenever you stop by Ancient. Since
Ancient is conveniently in the middle of the map, you'll
probably have a chance to stop there pretty often
2) after Nemea's succession, defeat Tyra's Daughters, and keep
visiting Zagiv
3) once you've defeated one of Tyra's Daughters, you'll get a
scene where, after visiting her in the cemetery, Zagiv chases
after you to the docks and asks your name. Continue fighting
Tyra's Daughters and vising the cemetery.
4) continue visiting the cemetary (after the fall of Rosen, you'll
get a series of events with unique as opposed to repetitive
conversation) until you see Zagiv being accosted by some dark
force, and she asks if you know her history (you can be told
about her background by Doldram, but it's not necessary)
5) anytime between the 1st and 2nd invasion of Rostorl, if you've
cleared the above events, you'll get a letter from Zagiv when
you enter a guildhouse, asking you to meet her at the palace at
Ancient. When you arrive at the palace, agree to escort her and
she'll join after the event sequence. Note that this can happen
anytime before the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, so you don't have to
rush on defeating Tyra's Daughters.
6) in order to keep Zagiv alive through the Soul Reap event, you
must have her in the party when the event begins (either by
talking to Belzevar or having it occur automatically after a
certain time). After Soul Reap, go to the Cat House with Zagiv
to start her event at the Seaspray Islands (you must have
defeated the Kraken and have access to the Islands before the
event will occur), after which you'll be transported to Ancient
to finish the event chain.
7) alternately, you can start the Seaspray Islands event first if
you go to the Cat House and have access to the islands. In this
case, you'll still be transported automatically to Ancient after
the event ends, and Ancient will be a ghost town full of
monsters. You cannot save Belzevar if you do things in this
order.
8) also, if you enter the final dungeon without witnessing the
Soul Reap event first, you will have to fight Zagiv if she's not
in your party.
MISC: Zagiv's inn event is viewable after you clear the event at Seaspray
Islands and the subsequent Soul Reap event at Ancient.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
KARLA (CORQUIA)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: There are two ways to get Karla to join, depending on whose side
you take during the Liberdam and 2nd invasion of Rostorl events. In
either case, you have to meet her very early on in the game first.
Karla's default soul is Luna Shadow, and her unique gear is Death
Scythe and Blue Mage Armor.
CONDITIONS: To meet Karla, you have to initiate her rescue event in Rosen. You
must be at least level 10 or thereabouts, and have been to Rosen at
least once before (on another day). Keep entering Rosen until you
see Karla picking a fight with the guards. Note that this event is
only available before Nemea's succession.
1) agree to help Karla infiltrate Rosen. She becomes an NPC at this
point. Clear the event.
2) after this, Karla will appear at the cemetary at Ancient.
Continue visiting her until she tells you about her family and
her reasons for becoming a soldier
From here on, there are two methods for getting Karla to join. The
first is if you'll fight for Karla during the 2nd invasion of
Rostorl:
1) start the Liberdam Liberation Front series of events involving
Khryseis and the Nightmare Dew. [see Khryseis' events in the NPC
section]
2) when you get to the Rosen's Bell event, agree to defect to
Karla's forces
3) you can visit Karla in her office at Rosen afterwards to raise
Affinity
4) after Karla declares the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, meet her in
her office and join Karla's forces in the war
5) after the start of the Corns Rebellion event, go directly to
Arnotun to meet Karla and Irene. Delaying this step will make
the event end automatically without you and you can't get either
Karla or Irene in that case.
6) Karla and Irene join automatically after the rebellion is
supressed
The 2nd method is if you want to fight for Rostorl during the 2nd
invasion, and have also met and have a decent Affinity with Irene.
1) as before, start the Liberation Front series of events, but
refuse when Karla asks you to defect (or agree to defect but let
Khryuseis escape during the attack on Liberdam afterwards, see
Khryuseis' section)
2) join the 2nd invasion of Rostorl as Xenetes' second in command.
You'll run into a fight with Irene. RUN AWAY from her.
3) after the Corns Rebellion is surpressed, you can meet Irene at
the Liberdam Bell Tower.
4) after meeting Irene, you'll get a letter from Karla asking you
to go to Rosen from any Guild
5) meet Karla at Rosen, and agree to help her find Irene
6) talk to Nemo at the Cat House, and he'll tell you to go to the
False Forest
7) head to Oswald, where you'll again fight Irene. As before, run
away.
8) Irene joins after this event. When you talk to Karla at Rosen at
the end, choose "I don't want a reward" and "I'll give you the
world" to get Karla to join.
MISC: Despite her being a general and all, you never actually have to
fight Karla anywhere outside of the Coliseum.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
ANGEERDAN (ZEIEN)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Angeerdan was an old friend of Balor and Nemea, who got into a
disagreement with Emperor Elumark and becomes a wanted fugitive.
Angeerdan's default Soul is Mighty Blow.
CONDITIONS: You can first meet Angeerdan at the bottom of the Dead Dragon Cave,
prior to Nemea's succession, once you get the Guild notice to
investigate the area. As you reach the dragon at the bottom,
Angeerdan appears and prevents you from doing something suicidal.
Afterwards, Angeerdan will appear at the (normal) bar in Liberdam.
1) visit Angeerdan in Liberdam to raise his Affinity. He's only
there until Nemea's succession.
2) after the fall of Rosen, join the 1st invasion of Rostorl as
Angeerdan's second in command. If you have a high enough
Affinity with Angeerdan (Trust or better?), you'll receive an
invitation from any Guild asking you to go to the castle at
Ancient. Otherwise, you can sign up as a mercenary from any
Guild if you have enough reputation (Guilds in Dingal territory
will let you fight for Dingal, those in Rostorl territory for
Rostorl).
3) when you arrive in Ancient, you'll be told to come back in a
month.
4) 1 month later, you'll be . . . asked to come back again in half
a month.
5) go back again in half a month to start the 1st invasion of
Rostorl. Clear this event within the time limit. Angeerdan will
ask you to go to Ancient.
6) go to Ancient immediately afterwards. Angeerdan dies if you
delay this step. He'll tell you about a password at Aquiris.
7) before the fall of Liberdam, use the password to talk to
Angeerdan and Jiraak.
8) after the fall of Liberdam, go to Aquiris and use the password
to initiate the fall of Aquiris. Angeerdan joins after this
event.
MISC: 1) there's an event involving Angeerdan and Eons if you bring
Angeerdan to Arnotun.
2) Angeerdan's inn event is available after you save Ikremn from
Ladras.
3) right after the 1st invasion of Rostorl, if you fought for
Dingal, you can stop by the bar in the Dwarf Kingdom to initiate
an event involving the Dwarven King and protecting straggling
troops. Angeerdan will thank you for doing so when you talk to
him at Ancient afterwards.
===============================================================================
-ROSTORL CHARACTERS------------------------------------------------------------
Like the Dingal characters, for the most part most of these people are involved
in the major historical events. You won't be able to get most of them until the
Second Rostorl-Dingal War event, although there are a lot of pre-requisites
events before that stage.
===============================================================================
XENETES (FARLOS)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Xenetes is possibly one of the most normal and well-adjusted
characters in the game. Unfortunately, he has a high tendency to
get dragged into Lemghon's angsty plot and die along the way.
Xenetes' default Soul is Lawful Blade, and he carries the Seven
Dragon Sword, which you can stea- er, de-equip. There's a further
analysis on the entire stupidly long and complicated Ryuga
Rebellion event in the FAQ at the end.
CONDITIONS: If you start from Noble, in the "town on travels" rather than
"fields of shimmering gold", you'll meet Xenetes early on.
If you're starting from any other location, you'll first need to
meet Xenetes through the "Hannah's Doll" event. After visiting the
Cat House for the first time, go to the Rostorl Guild and you'll
see a notice posted by a little girl who wants her doll back.
Proceed to the slums to find Taltuba being, well, Taltuba-like, and
he'll sic a big slimy thing on you. Regardless of whether you win
the subsequent fight, Xenetes appears and gives you the Silver
Dragon Necklace, which you can use to visit Tiana/Atreiya later on.
After this event, you'll be able to find Xenetes in the slum pubs
of Rostorl and Liberdam. Afterwards:
1) Keep visiting Xenetes until he starts talking about infinite
souls. It appears that you don't need to do this if you're
intending to finish Lemghon's events, but if you're not it seems
to be the key to Xenetes' survival later on. In the process,
raise his Affinity to Trust or better. If you're trying to save
Lemghon as well Xenetes' Affinity can't be too much higher than
that. The "souls" conversation only occurs between Nemea's
succession and the 1st invasion of Rostorl.
2) It's not necessary to aid Xenetes in the 1st invasion of Rostorl
unless you want to get his ending. He won't die during this
event either way, but if you help him Angeerdan dies.
3) It is, however, necessary to assist him during the 2nd invasion
of Rostorl in order to access the Ryuga Rebellion event
immediately afterwards; going to Zegna first as par Keryuneia's
instructions will make the war happen without you, in which case
you miss Xenetes, Lemghon, Karla, and Irene. Clear the Rebellion
event with a decent amount of time left, and Xenetes will join.
4) I haven't been able to verify this myself yet but it appears
that it's possible to access the Ryuga Rebellion event while
fighting for Karla if Xenetes' Affinity is at Adoration.
MISC: 1) Xenetes has 2 inn events, available after he joins, if his
Affinity is at Love or better
2) If you fail to save Xenetes but have a high Affinity with him,
you can lose the fight with him at the end and not lose the
game.
3) Xenetes sometimes appears as an NPC during the Tyra's Daughters
events. Accepting or refusing his help at this point has an
affect on his Affinity.

===============================================================================
LEMGHON (RYUGA)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Lemghon was an un-savable character in the original. Accordingly,
getting him to join involves a long and complicated sequence of
events and a lot of stalking. Lemghon's default Soul is Lawful
Blade, and his fixed weapons are a pair of Battle Blades.
CONDITIONS: The easiest method is to start from Noble, in the "town on travels"
scenario, and raise your Affinity with Xenetes, who's a lot easier
to find. Since you can't become the Count(ess) of Noble in this
scenario, you can't meet Lemghon, and you don't have to worry about
his Affinity at all. If you have high enough Affinity with Xenetes
and have fulfilled Xenetes' conditions for joining, Lemghon joins
automatically with him when you finish the Ryuga Rebellion event
(you still need to clear it within the time limit).
However, if you're starting from anywhere else, you need to meet
Lemghon by becoming the Count(ess) of Noble. If you're starting
from the other Noble scenario, "fields of shimmering gold", this is
automatic; otherwise, wander the road between Rostorl and Noble
until you find Lemghon getting attacked by assassins; choose to
help him (not that he needs it), and you can become the Count(ess).
Note that the encounter rate increases as you get more fame and
levels. Conditions after this are:
1) after the fall of Rosen, you can visit Lemghon in his mansion in
Rostorl. Keep doing this until his Affinity is at Love or
better. This is about the only time when you can freely visit
him, so if you want to complete the later sequence of events
dogged stalking is recommended.
2) after the 1st invasion of Rostorl, meet Lemghon in front of the
Rostorl royal palace, fountain, or Ryuga Residence.
3) anytime between the fall of Liberdam and the 2nd invasion of
Rostorl, visit Lemghon at his mansion and receive an invitation
to go to the Aerial Gardens. In order to see the remaining
events in this sequence, you must have Lemghon rather than
Xenetes assist you in the combat during this event, which
requires that Lemghon (instead of one of the princesses) invites
you to the Aerial Gardens AND that his Affinity is higher than
Xenetes'. The Aerial Gardens event may also require some level
of Affinity with Tiana or Atreiya, but you should have a decent
Affinity with Tiana if you've been visiting her with Lemghon.
If, for some reason, you can't seem to get the Aerial Gardens
event to appear, try visiting either or both of the princesses
until you see a scene with Taltuba.
4) immediately after the Aerial Gardens event, encounter Zerashel
at the main pub. If you find Xenetes instead, talk to him,
leave, and re-enter the bar until Zerashel appears (may have to
stay at the inn for a night). After talking to Zerashel, go rest
at the inn and choose to follow him during the night.
5) next day, go to the gates of the royal palace. Finishing this
event clears all of Lemghon's events up to the 2nd invasion of
Rostorl.
6) join the 2nd invasion of Rostorl as Xenetes' second. After the
events at Zegna and fighting with Karla's forces, you'll
automatically be transported to the Ryuga Rebellion event.
Finish this event within the time limit (I have heard that
finishing it with very little time left on the timer produces
bad results, so try to do it ASAP) to get Lemghon to join.
MISC: 1) Lemghon's inn event is viewable after he joins, though you get
slightly different dialogue depending on either Affinity or
scenario (it's essentially impossible to get him to join with an
Affinity of less than Adoration for any scenario other than
"town on travels")
2) As with Xenetes, if you fail to save Lemghon but have a high
Affinity with him, you can lose the battle with him at the end
and not lose the game. If you fulfil those conditions for both
characters Lemghon's event takes priority over Xenetes'.
3) Lemghon appears as an NPC during the starting event for the
"fields of shimmering gold" scenario. In this case, his default
Affinity is Friendly after you complete the opening sequence.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
IRENE (ELMETH)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: The girl who wants to be a knight, you'll find Irene all over the
map early in the game, but she doesn't join until near the end.
Which is rather unfortunate, as her default Soul is Grow Fighter.
CONDITIONS: If you start from the Rostorl scenario, Irene is your starting
partner. You'll lose her along the way to the Forbidden Grail event
chain (see Sera's section). Getting her back is essentially the
same process as other scenarios use to get her to join.
If you're starting from any other scenario, you'll meet Irene in
the town square of Ancient after first encountering the Gobbo Band
in the bar. She'll appear in random towns across the map
afterwards, and you can talk to her to raise Affinity. After
Nemea's succession:
1) find Irene at the bar in Ancient and talk to her.
2) after the fall of Rosen, Irene will come up to you at a random
town and tell you she's become a knight.
To get Irene to join, you can use either of the methods listed in
Karla's section. To get her back if you're starting from Rostorl,
use the 2nd method.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
CHAKA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Chaka only appears in the "fields of shimmering gold" scenario. His
default soul is Blue Flare.
CONDITIONS: Chaka is the initial partner for the "fields of shimmering gold"
Noble scenario, and doesn't appear in any other scenario. However,
he joins automatically from the beginning with the default Affinity
of Trust, and it's impossible to lose him or get him killed.
MISC: Every time he's whapped upside the head by his sister, Chaka gains
1 VIT and loses 1 INT.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
LULUANTHA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Luluantha is easy to get to join but also not terribly good at the
beginning. Luluantha's default Soul is Gremory.
CONDITIONS: Luluantha is your initial partner if you start from the "town on
travels" Noble scenario. For any other scenario, you can recruit
her easily by rescuing her at Ancient's slums after visiting the
Cat House for the first time after the opening sequence. Unlike
several other partner characters, Luluantha will not die, leave, or
go missing.
MISC: If you start from the other Noble scenario, "fields of shimmering
gold", you can meet Luluantha during the opening sequence, but it
doesn't count as actually "meeting" her by Nemo's list.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
VIARIARI
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: One of Zerashel's sisters. Viariari is distinguishable from her
twin by her red hair beads. Viariari's default soul is Luna Shadow.
CONDITIONS: You can first meet the twins (and Zerashell) by staying at the inn
at Rostorl prior to Nemea's succession. However, this isn't
necessary to get them to join. What is necessary is to have started
the Nightmare Dew event prior to the fall of Liberdam, to the point
where Zerashel and the twins appear.
1) after the 2nd invasion of Rostorl but before the Soul Reap
event, find the twins in Ancient's slums
2) anytime after that, talk to them in the back room of the slum
bar in Rostorl, and agree to help them.
Getting them to join simply involves talking to them a number of
times to raise their Affinity. Eventually they'll suddenly join
after some non-sensical comments. However, if you have a female
protagonist, you can do another series of events that explain this
bizarre behavior.
1) after agreeing to help the sisters, sleep at the inn in Rostorl
to meet Zerashel.
2) go to the Dead Dragon Cave and fight the dragon there. You must
not have already killed it in order to continue this chain of
events.
3) follow Zerashel to Thor's Peak
4) return to Rostorl and sleep at the inn to meet Zerashel.
Continue doing this until he bids you farewell and teleports
away.
5) talk to the twins in the back room of the bar and let them
teleport away. Note that the twins must not have joined your
party to continue the chain.
6) go to the Gate of Darkness. The twins join after the events
there.
It's possible to stop this chain by just talking to the twins a
number of times at the bar until they join. The final outcome is
the same, but you'll get a better explanation and the Dark Relic,
Sword of Oblivion, by completing this chain.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
VAILAILA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: The one with the blue hair beads. Essentially a clone of her sister
combat-wise.
CONDITIONS: See Viariari.
===============================================================================
-LIBERDAM CHARACTERS-----------------------------------------------------------
Characters who hang out around the town of Liberdam.
===============================================================================
ESTEL (ZU)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Estel is a classic case of "more than she appears to be", and will
engage in various mysterious activities early on. She requires a
bit of care and attention as she'll suddenly die if you don't
finish her events in time or have a low Affinity with her. Estel's
default soul is Grey Tails.
CONDITIONS: You first meet Estel at the belltower in Liberdam. From then on
she'll appear at the Coliseum entrance, but only until you leave
the town of Liberdam, at which point you'll start a sequence of
events to get her to join. If you want to raise Affinity with
Estel, keep sleeping at the inn and going back to talk to her at
the Coliseum without leaving town. For the record it's possible to
get her to join permanently without doing this if you finish all
her other events.
1) after meeting Estel, leave Liberdam by the front entrance (not
by boat). You'll get into a fight.
2) a few days later, go back to the belltower and Estel will ask
you to find her necklace in the Dragon Bone Desert. Do so, and
return it to her at the Liberdam Guild. Estel joins at this
point, but she'll leave periodically as you exit and enter town,
regardless of whether she's in your active party. If you want to
raise Affinity or do quests with her, use the docks instead of
the entrances to leave towns.
3) after the 2nd time she leaves, she won't come back. After
Nemea's succession, you'll find desert folk in various towns
(possible locations I've verified are Rostorl and Noble), who
will ask you to find Estel. Go to the location shown you by the
crystal, east of Liberdam, to find Estel. You must do this
within a month of starting the search. Estel rejoins the party
here, but still leaves periodically (at least now you know why).
4) You can, at this point, go to Ladras with Estel and you'll be
summoned to the Shrine of Earth. Defeat the boss with Estel in
your party to get a hefty boost to her magic stats.
5) awhile after the fall of Aquiris, you'll get the message that
Estel's been kidnapped if you step into a Guildhouse. Follow her
to Ladras, and complete the event within the time limit. Note
that you can go to Ladras following Ikremn, Flare, or Air, and
Estel will still be there. If you run out of time on the Ladras
event, all four die. Similarly, the event occurs without you if
you wait too long in going to Ladras once the sequence begins.
6) after the Ladras event, return to Ladras immediately and go to
the Shrine of Earth. If Estel is alive (based on Affinity) she
will be there, defeat the boss to get her back. If you didn't
defeat the first boss in step 4, you have to do that first,
then return to fight the 2nd boss. Estel joins permanently after
this event, and doesn't have to leave periodically anymore.
MISC: If you complete step 4 with Estel in your party, you'll see her
alternate costume. If you tell her that it suits her and have her
Affinity at Adoration when she joins permanently, she will join
with this costume.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
REIG
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Reig is the champion of the obligatory Coliseum, in Liberdam.
Unlike most other party members, he doesn't quite scale to level
when you fight him. Reig's default soul is Arch Sword, and his
unique weapons are Steel Blade and Flash Blade.
CONDITIONS: You'll meet Reig when you show up for the championships at the
Coliseum in August of any year prior to the fall of Liberdam.
To get him to join, you must defeat him once in Liberdam by
completing the championship. After the fall of Liberdam, go to the
Coliseum ruins in August to fight him a second time; he'll join if
you win.
MISC: Regardless of whether you win, Reig can teach you the Double Blade
skill after the 2nd fight.
===============================================================================
-MYSE CHARACTERS---------------------------------------------------------------
Sera and Roy are heavily involved in the Forbidden Grail subplot chain, and
appear during the opening events for the Myse scenario.
===============================================================================
SERA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Sera is heavily involved in the Forbidden Grail chain of events,
which is a major subplot through the first half of the game. He's
also the best of all the starting partners, meaning you can afford
to get him a little late (level 15+) and not have his stats suffer
too much. Sera's default Soul is Mighty Blow and his unique weapon
is Moonshine.
CONDITIONS: Sera is your initial partner if you start from Myse. Otherwise,
you'll meet him after encountering the first of Tyra's Daughters
(doesn't matter which). He'll join the party then, but it's
possible to lose him later if you don't finish the entire Forbidden
Grail event sequence.
1) you automatically start the Forbidden Grail chain when you first
visit Orphaus in the Cat House. He'll ask you to find the item.
2) go to the bar at Ancient, talk to the bartender, and the Gobbo
Band will wander in.
3) from now on you'll randomly encounter the Gobbo Band when you're
wandering between towns. Fight them at least once.
4) you'll then be able to meet Agyleshaia in any of a number of
back alley locations, such as Rostorl's slums or Ancient's
graveyard. You'll only encounter her once. This even doesn't
occur if you're starting from the Myse scenario.
5) after Nemea's succession, you'll find various event jobs that
occur when you walk into certain guilds (Rostorl, Ancient,
Amiral, Rosen, Ulkarne, Terane, Elles). Each one lets you fight
a monster named Tyra's Daughter. Sera joins after the first one
regardless of location. Note that you must have completed a
certain number of quests and obtained a decent amount of fame
for the Tyra's Daughter quests to begin appearing.
6) go to the Cat House with Sera (going there and having him join
the active party works too). As you leave, you'll witness a
conversation between Sera and Orphaus.
7) continue hunting Tyra's Daughters. For about every 2 you kill,
you'll get an event with Sera if you sleep at the inn. Continue
until he talks about Sunlight and Moonshine.
8) in the next Tyra's Daughter encounter, you'll meet Cyforce and
initiate an event with Rising Sun.
9) go to any guild to get a letter from Cyforce (you have to
actually talk to the guildmaster) to meet at the Rainbow
Mountains. Encounter event battle.
10) sleep at an inn with Sera in your party, and he'll talk about
his sister.
11) after the fall of Liberdam, you'll encounter a scene involving
Argyleshaia, Cyforce, and Vashtar on any road. You'll
automatically follow them to Antino's Research Laboratory.
12) if you've completed all of the events up to this point, Roy will
join at the end of the Research Laboratory. If not, Roy dies and
Sera will leave the party.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
ROY
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: While a party member, it's not possible to check Roy's Affinity
with Nemo unless you've cleared the game once (ie are playing on a
save that says "clear data"). Roy's default Soul is Arbalest and
his unique weapon is Sunlight.
CONDITIONS: [see Sera's section]
MISC: 1) Roy is briefly controllable as an NPC during Myse's starting
sequence. In this case, his default Affinity is Adoration.
2) Roy as Roy has completely separate stats from his alter ego, for
whom you can't assign soul points or buy skills when he's an NPC.
3) Roy's Affinity is only viewable in the Cat House when starting
from a New Game+
===============================================================================
-TERANE CHARACTERS-------------------------------------------------------------
You'll be familiar with Van and Naji if you start from Terane. Relra Lonton
isn't so much a local character but appears in Terane.
===============================================================================
NAJI
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Naji is the starting partner for the Terane scenario. It's possible
to lose him permanently in the Corns Rebellion event. Naji's
default soul is Cleric.
CONDITIONS: If you're starting from Terane, Naji joins automatically in the
beginning. Otherwise:
1) after vising the Cat House for the first time, encounter Galdran
at the bar in Rostorl.
2) you can then meet Naji at the bar in Ancient or Liberdam
the alternate method:
1) after meeting Nemea in Liberdam but prior to Nemea's succession,
you'll encounter Naji being attacked on the road. If Naji isn't
already a party member you can get him to join then. If Naji has
joined but isn't in the active party you'll still get this event
MISC: In order to save Naji during the Corns Rebellion event, you must
bring Van with you when you confront Naji at Arnotun. Running out
of time will get Naji killed. Alternately, you can simply not go
to the Cat House until the end of the event, in which case Naji
never defects.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
VAN
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Van is unconscious for the first part of the game. In order to wake
him up and get him to join, you need to complete Naji's events.
Van's default Soul is Grow Fighter.
CONDITIONS: Van's events are all related to Naji's, and a lot of them occur
randomly on the road, so it's possibly just easier to keep Naji in
the active party until you get Van. After Naji joins:
1) after Nemea's succession, you'll randomly encounter Galdran
rescuing a Corns on the road.
2) after the fall of Rosen, Galdran will try to attack you
provided the Naji is in the active party. After you defeat him,
stop Naji from trying to kill him.
3) go to the inn in Terane to with Naji find Van awake and healed.
Van takes off on his own.
4) randomly encounter Galdran and Van on the road (the one between
Ancient and Aquiris seems to have the best chance for this,
though I have seen this event elsewhere). Van joins after this
scene.
MISC: if Naji dies during the Corns Rebellion event and you don't take
Van with you into the final dungeon, you'll have to fight Van.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
RELRA LONTON
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Relra Lonton is a famous bard who joins your party for reasons
unknown. His real name is Crispy. Relra's default soul is Gremory.
CONDITIONS: Relra Lonton is the starting partner for the Oswald scenario. In
any other scenario, simply talk to him in the Item Shop at Terane
to get him to join.
===============================================================================
-MISC OTHER CHARACTERS---------------------------------------------------------
For the most part, you have a fairly wide margin of error when it comes to
recruiting these people, and it's generally not possible to lose them or get
them killed.
===============================================================================
FETY
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Fety is a very good spellcaster you can get early on. She has
several inn events throughout the game. Fety's default Soul is
Warlock.
CONDITIONS: You can find Fety in the bar of Rostorl or Terane, but Dergaad must
not be in your active party in order to find her. Choose to help
her and she will join.
MISC: 1) Fety's first inn event is available immediately after she joins.
2) in order to get the Flash Bow, you must have both Aoife and Fety
in your active party after rescuing Nemea, during the brief
window between going to the Cat House and going to the final
dungeon.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
DERGAAD
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: You can find Dergaad early on, and like Fety, he won't leave, die,
go missing, etc. Dergaad's default Soul is Mighty Blow.
CONDITIONS: After visiting the Cat House for the first time, you'll find
Dergaad at the bar in the Dwarf Kingdom. Talk to him, and answer
"you're just a pathetic drunk" to get him to join. If Relra Lonton
is in your party, you can pick the other option and still have him
join.
MISC: After Dergaad joins the party, you can initiate a chain of events
to get the Sword of Flame, which is necessary to get Dergaad's
ending.
1) after Nemea's succession, stay at an inn with Dergaad in the
party to start the chain.
2) find Dergaad at the bar in either the Dwarf Kingdom or Terane,
and he'll tell you to go to the Fire Dragon Mountain. You'll
acquire the Broken Sword.
3) after the 1st invasion of Rostorl, go the the bar at Ancient or
the Dwarf Kingdom with both Dergaad and Fety in your party.
4) go to the Fire Dragon Mountain again to forge the Sword of
Flame. Note that this event can be postponed until right near
the end of the game and it will still occur as normal.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
EONS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Eons is a priest who hangs out in the remote town of Arnotun.
There's not much reason to go to Arnotun early on as it's rather
out of the way, so he's an easy character to miss. The event that
makes him join is one of the best scripted ones in the game, IMO,
so it's well worth the trouble. Eons' default soul is Patriarch,
and his unique weapon is Alhir.
CONDITIONS: You can meet Eons anytime prior to the fall of Aquiris. He'll be
sitting on the stairs as you enter the town, though he's a bit hard
to see as he's the same color as said stairs. Talk to him once,
then come back a different day to see his event with Izkial. You
can continue to visit him to raise Affinity.
Anytime between the 1st and 2nd invasion of Rostorl, you can go to
Arnotun and initiate an event; Eons joins afterwards regardless of
whether you win or lose the boss fight.
MISC: Eons dies if you leave him alone until the Corns Rebellion. In this
case, you fight Iskial in the final dungeon.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
YURIS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: A rather special student of the Magic Academy, Yuris can be found
scrubbing floors and waiting on tables in Amiral. Yuris' default
soul is Warlock, and her unique weapon is Magical Stick.
CONDITIONS: You can find Yuris at the inn in Amiral, but to get her to join you
need to find out about her background first.
1) prior to Nemea's succession, go to the Magic Academy at Ancient
and listen to the students talk about Yuris.
2) go to the ruins of the 2nd inn, at the western edge of the town,
in Amiral, and talk to the innkeeper there.
3) go to the normal inn in Amiral and talk to Yuris. Say you'll
help her and pay 3000 gia to get her to join.
After this, you can start Yuris' chain of events involving Union
Spell. Note that it's possible to get Union Spell without Yuris,
but you can't see her events in that case.
1) after Nemea's succession, talk to Yuris
2) after the fall of Liberdam but before the Soul Reap event, talk
to Sharome with Yuris in your party with the Soul Augustia
learned to learn about Union Spell.
3) rest at the inn to see Yuris' event
4) return to the tower and fight the boss at the top. Yuris, as
well as any other active party members who have Augustia
(learned, doesn't have to have the Soul equipped) will gain
Union Spell.
5) return to the Magic Academy with Yuris to finish her events.
Note that you must do all of this before Soul Reap so that you can
access the various areas in Ancient.
MISC: 1) While Yuris is probably human, she gets a strange modifier of +1
VIT, -1 INT sometimes on levelup. If you want her to be a mage,
you probably have to keep her with spellcaster Souls.
2) you don't have to have Yuris in your party in order to learn
about and get Union Spell.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
ORPHAUS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Orphaus is the rather feminine looking sage who lives in the Cat
House and changes party members for you. Orphaus' unique equipment
are the Magic Volt and the Sage's Robe, and he starts with Union
Spell. Orphaus' default Soul is Augustia.
CONDITIONS: Orphaus joins automatically just before the final dungeon as an
actual party member, but like Nemea you don't need to go to any
effort to get him to join and can't get him killed.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
SECTION 4: NPCS
===============================================================================
There are a number of important NPCs who you can visit, talk to, get endings
with, etc. For those on Nemo's list, their Affinity works the same way as your
party members', though of course you can't drag them around. A lot of NPCs are
also like tropical plants and will drop dead without warning if you don't pay
attention to them.
-PRINCESSES--------------------------------------------------------------------
The two princesses of Rostorl, Tiana and Atreiya, are heavily involved in the
main plot. They also have very high ending priorities.
===============================================================================
TIANA (RYU)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Tiana is one of the two princesses of Rostorl, and part of the
extraordinarily messy and convoluted quagmire which is the Rostorl
nobility. You can only save either Tiana or Atrieya, and there will
be events where choosing to help one lowers the Affinity of the
other. If you leave them alone, Tiana survives by default.
EVENTS: To be able to meet Tiana, you have to have the the Silver Dragon
Necklace, obtained after either the Hannah's Doll event (see
Xenetes' section) or directly from Shalli if you ignore Hannah's
Doll long enough. Afterwards, you can visit Tiana via the secret
passageway, though you can just ask the guards at the palace to let
you in if you're the Count(ess) of Noble.
1) as you talk to Tiana, you'll see various events depicting her
life and problems.
2) eventually there will be an event where Taltuba attempts to
harass Tiana. Whether you choose to help Tiana or Atreiya during
this time has a major impact on their Affinities.
3) after the fall of Rosen, provided you have a high enough
Affinity with Tiana, she'll ask you to sneak out of the palace
with her. This is necessary to get her ending.
4) after the fall of Liberdam, if you've been following up on
Tiana's events and have a high Affinity with her, Tiana will
invite you to the Aerial Gardens. If you haven't completed
Atreiya's event sequences by this point, Atreiya turns evil
afterwards. You can initiate the Aerial Gardens event with
Tiana, Atreiya, or Lemghon; the only difference in overall
outcome is whether or not you can get Lemghon to join.
5) save Tiana during the Ryuga Rebellion event. Afterwards, she'll
tell you about her efforts at restoring Rostorl.
6) meet Tiana at the Ryuga Residence until she tells you that she's
worried about her father. Go to the palace and defeat the boss
there.
7) after this event, go back to talk to Tiana again, and she'll ask
you for a Life Shard to save her patient. Giving her the Life
Shard is one of the requirements to obtain the Stra's Edge. [see
Fugo's section]
MISC: 1) when you visit Lemghon as the Count(ess) of Noble, you'll also
visit Tiana, raising both of their Affinities.
2) if you fail to save Tiana, she appears as a boss in the final
dungeon. No, there are no special events aside from Game Over if
you lose the fight with her.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
ATREIYA (RYU)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: The other princess of Rostorl, Atreiya has significantly more
issues than her cousin, and thus takes more effort to save. If you
do nothing, Atreiya turns evil by default.
EVENTS: You can technically access Atreiya's room after you get the Silver
Dragon Necklace (hop up the ruined staircase on the far right of
the secret passage), but Shalli won't let you talk to her until
after Nemea's succession, at which point he'll ask you to find the
Eye of Allure. Do so, and you'll be able to visit Atreiya
afterwards. If you don't have the Silver Dragon Necklace at this
point, Shalli will appear in town and give it to you.
1) talk to Atreiya to raise Affinity. Pick the obvious answers.
2) as with Tiana, there will be an event where you can take Atreiya
out to the gardens, during which you'll see Tiana being harassed
by Taltuba. Whether you help Tiana or Atreiya at this point has
a large impact on their Affinities.
3) after the fall of Rosen, provided you have a high enough
Affinity with Atreiya, she'll ask you to take her out of the
palace. This event is necessary to get her ending.
4) Before the Aerial Gardens event, keep visiting Atreiya until
Shalli interrupts and sics monsters on you. You'll fight 2
battles, LOSE the second (keep using Charge). If you win the
second fight you'll just have to keep repeating this event.
Once this occurs, Atreiya is saved and Tiana turns evil.
5) after the fall of Liberdam, if you have been doing her events
and have a high Affinity with Atreiya, she'll invite you to the
Aerial Gardens. If you've saved Atreiya by this point the event
plays out a bit differently, but otherwise is the same as Tiana
and Lemghon's versions.
6) after Karla declares the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, visit Atreiya
at the palace and agree to her request to aid Xenetes. You can
join the fight normally by talking to Xenetes at the Guild, but
to get Atreiya's ending you must have talked to her first.
7) save Atreiya during the Ryuga Rebellion. If you've saved Atreiya
rather than Tiana, you don't have to fight Zahak at the end of
this event.
8) visit Atreiya until she says she's worried about the palace. Go
to the palace and fight the boss.
9) as with Tiana, return to visit Atreiya until she asks for a
Shard of Life. You must complete this event to get the Stra's
Edge (see Fugo's section).
MISC: 1) if you save Atreiya, for some bizarre reason the Gobbo Band
turns up at the Ryuga Residence near the end.
2) ditto final dungeon, ditto boss, ditto no events.
===============================================================================
-PRIETESSES--------------------------------------------------------------------
The priestess of the various elements can be found guarding the various
elemental Shrines. You need to access the Shrines in order to get the Forbidden
Spells. Also note that failing the Ladras event by either running out of time
or letting it happen without you will kill all of the priestesses.
===============================================================================
IKREMN
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Ikremn is the Priestess of Water at Aquiris.
EVENTS: Meeting Ikremn is easy - just go to Aquiris and you'll even get a
nice CG movie with her and the Mizuchi. Early in the game you can
visit her at the steps to the Shrine of Water. Getting Ikremn's
ending is completely unrelated to her Affinity.
1) obtain the Mermaid's Earring by either joining the fall of
Aquiris as a mercenary for Aquiris or going with Angeerdan. Note
that if you don't go with Angeerdan (ie, he doesn't survive) you
can't get Ikremn's ending.
2) after obtaining the Earring, sleep at an inn to until you see
the event involving said Earring.
3) go to Ladras and rescue Ikremn (and the other priestesses)
MISC: You can't get Ikremn's ending if you obtain the Forbidden Spell of
Water at the Seaspray Islands
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
AIR
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: As her name suggests, Air is, well, the Priestess of Wind in Elles.
Elles is really out of the way and a bit of a pain to get to, but
she also won't suddenly go missing or drop dead if you leave her
alone, unless it's the Ladras event.
EVENTS: To meet Air, just go to the Shrine of Wind in Elles. If you go
there prior to Nemea's succession, you'll get an event with Air
after meeting her and resting at the inn. The "correct" answer
here is "I don't want to know the future".
1) save Air during the Ladras event (see Estel's section)
2) return to Elles and talk to her
MISC: 1) If you want to fight the Dragon King and/or obtain the Forbidden
Spell of Wind, you have to fight the Sky Lord. If Air's Affinity
is low at this point, you'll also have to fight Air as well
afterwards. To avoid having to fight Air, simply talk to her and
raise Affinity until the Sky Lord warns you off as you enter the
Shrine. Ignore his warning and go back, and the Sky Lord will
attack you, in which case you don't have to fight Air
afterwards.
2) Unlike just about every other character in the game, talking to
Air to raise Affinity doesn't require switching days. You can
just stand in front of her and tap Circle.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
FLARE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Unlike her somewhat more robust compatriots, keeping Flare alive
requires a combination of events and denial, though there's a
fairly solid reason for this.
EVENTS: Go up the path behind the Guildhouse in Ulkarne to meet Flare.
Shemhaza will get pissy and tell you off, but you can just ignore
him and visit Flare anyway.
1) talk to Flare to raise Affinity. While the path to the Shrine
is narrow and full of monsters, they don't respawn as long as
you don't leave town, so you can just stay at the inn.
2) after Nemea's succession, go to Ulkarne and you'll fight
Shemhaza. You'll obtain the Bracelet of Binding afterwards.
3) after the fall of Rosen, go to Shemhaza's hut and read his
diary. Talk to Flare afterwards. If you've already talked to
Flare once that day, sleep at the inn and go back to tell her
about the contents of the diary.
4) before the fall of Aquiris, visit Flare and save her from being
kidnapped. You can in fact initiate this event by exiting and
re-entering the shrine after telling Flare about the diary.
5) save Flare during the Ladras event.
6) after the 2nd invasion of Rostorl but before the supression of
the Corns Rebellion (this is very tricky timing, especially if
you also want to participate in the Rebellion), go to Ulkarne
and talk to Flare until she lets you into the Shrine of Fire.
Just keep exiting and leaving the shrine area where Flare is.
Fight the boss to get the Forbidden Spell of Fire.
7) afterwards, rest in the inn to get an event with Flare. Choose
to not hand over the Bracelet of Binding to keep Flare alive.
MISC: 1) if you don't finish the above chain, you can still keep Flare
alive provided you don't talk to her and thus don't get the
Forbidden Spell of Fire.
2) and even after you finish those events, leaving her alone for
awhile and then talking to her afterwards will cause her to die.
If you're not confident in being able to hit Ulkarne every now
and then it's best to just leave her alone after you save her.
===============================================================================
-ANTAGONISTS-------------------------------------------------------------------
Various antagonists who either have long plot chains or are possible to get
endings with. They have Affinity ratings, though of course they don't appear on
Nemo's list.
===============================================================================
ELFAS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Elfas is the oddly dressed prophet who goes around and preaches
about the end of the world in various random towns, and usually
gets accosted by the local law enforcement for his trouble. He's
also the younger brother of the late Empress Ys, the most beautiful
woman in the world.
EVENTS: You'll run into Elfas in any of a number of towns, usually getting
attacked by soldiers. And even though he's an ungrateful brat for
most of these encounters, helping him still raises his Affinity.
The locations you'll find him in (not necessarily in that order)
are:
Prior to Nemea's succession:
1) in front of the fountain in Rostorl
2) in the park area in Aquiris
After Nemea's succession:
3) the gates of Terane
4) in front of Nortun's Temple in Ancient
After the fall of Rosen:
5) at the belltower in Liberdam
6) in the main streets of Rosen
7) in front of the fountain in Rostorl
8) in the center square of Ancient
After the 1st invasion of Rostorl:
9) in the middle of town in Noble
10) in front of the fountain at Elles
11) in the graveyard at Ancient
After the fall of Liberdam but before the 2nd invasion of Rostorl:
12) in the temple of Nortun in Ancient
13) in the central square in Ancient
If you've completed all of Elfas' events up to step 13, you can
lose to the guards to trigger a different sequence than normal.
After the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, follow Aoife's event chain to
Elles; return to the Evil Dragon Crevasse and slay the dragon
there, after which you'll see a scene involving Elfas and Shalli on
the roads. It's not actually necessary to have seen all of Elfas'
events to get this scene, though I'm uncertain as to whether that
holds true for his ending as well. After this scene, the dialogue
at the final dungeon will play out a bit differently, though the
basic sequence of events remains the same.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
SHALLI
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Shalli is the rather odd kid who seems to have a thing for
abducting various party members and NPCs, and various and sundry
seemingly unrelated incidents can all be traced back to him.
EVENTS: The earliest you can meet Shalli is in Atreiya's room, prior to
Nemea's succession, though he'll just teleport you out. Events that
involve Shalli are:
1) Atreiya and the Eye of Allure (see Atreiya's section)
2) the search for Estel (see Estel's section)
3) after you rescue Estel, inn event with Estel in the party
4) during Eons and Iskial's event in Arnotun.
5) the fall of Aquiris, during which if you're fighting for
Aquiris, you'll fight Shalli. The results of the event remain
the same whether you win or lose.
6) the Ladras event, during which you'll fight Shalli in the
control room. You can still save the priestesses regardless of
whether you win the fight.
7) you'll see Shalli with Elfas in the Nortun Temple and on the
road [see Elfas' section]
8) at the end of the Ryuga Rebellion
9) in the Evil Dragon Crevasse, during Aoife's event. If you return
to the Crevasse afterwards, Shalli will wake the dragon for you
if you want to fight it.
10) Shalli also appears during Zerashel's even sequence
11) and finally, in various places in the final dungeon
If you've encountered Shalli a number of times before, you'll get a
dialogue choice if you lose to him in the fight in Ladras. Choose
"Shalli is not a puppet" to trigger a further event in the bottom
of the Sandworm's Corpse, in the Dragon Bone Desert. Note that
Shalli's ending is fairly low priority.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
ZERASHEL
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Zerashel appears as a supporting character in a number of events.
And in just about every single one of them his role is "irritating
bastard that you never actually get to pummel". Finishing his event
chain at the end, however, explains WHY he's an irritating bastard
and may or may not generate sympathy for the character depending on
how generous you're feeling.
EVENTS: As with the twins, the first time you can encounter Zerashel is
during an inn stay at Rostorl prior to Nemea's succession.
Afterwards, the events that involve him are:
1) the Nightmare Dew event [see Khryuseis' section]. Unfortunately,
you don't get to actually fight him here.
2) the battle of Aquiris, either side. His actions make more sense
if you've seen this event from both sides.
3) Lemghon's event chain in Rostorl, after the Aerial Gardens.
Near the end of the game, you can do the sequence described in
Viariari's section to find out about his background, but only if
you have a female protagonist.
MISC: 1) Zerashel disappears from the character encyclopedia after the
twins join your party. The reason for this is explained if you
finish his event chain.
2) while Zerashel has an Affinity rating, you can't get an ending
with him.
===============================================================================
-MERCHANTS---------------------------------------------------------------------
The merchant upper class who rule Liberdam, though for Affinity and event
purposes the only relevant characters are Fugo and Khryuseis.
===============================================================================
KHRYUSEIS (CROISS)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Khryuseis is the daughter of the incredibly wealthy merchant Lotti
in Liberdam.
EVENTS: You meet Khryuseis in the most unpleasant manner possible, in the
Nightmare Dew sequence of events prior to the fall of Liberdam.
After the 1st invasion of Rostorl, you'll get a special job from
the Guildhouse in Liberdam, to deliver a package to the Croiss
residence just on the other side of town. This starts the event
sequence.
1) next day, you'll be accosted at the belltower by Khryuseis,
Antino, and a bunch of guards.
2) return to the Guildhouse, and accept the special delivery job to
Rostorl. You'll get attacked by Zerashel, there's no way around
this.
3) you'll be transported to the Croiss Residence afterwards. From
then on, every time you sleep at an inn you'll be teleported to
the Liberdam Coliseum and wind up in a fight. Resist the urge to
smack Khryuseis and repeat this event 4-5 times.
4) you'll then be asked to deliver a couple of letters to various
locations.
5) the next day after finishing the delivery, you'll be asked to
help infiltrate Rosen. Do so, and you'll wind up confronting
Karla on the belltower in Rosen. You can choose whether or not
to defect to Karla's forces.
6) if you defect to Karla's forces, you can join the attack on
Liberdam. You'll be given the option whether or not to capture
Khryuseis. If you choose to capture her she dies. If you let her
escape, you'll be kicked out of Karla's forces and revert to
being a member of the Liberation Front.
7) keep alternating between staying at the inn and visiting
Khryuseis at her house until you see the assassination event,
after which visit her again the next day to initiate the fall of
Liberdam.
8) after the fall of Liberdam, stay at an inn to meet Khryuseis.
9) prior to Karla's declaration of the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, you
can go to the Liberation headquarters to talk to Khryuseis, who
asks you to find funding for the Liberation Front. Go to the
hidden caves near Rostorl to find treasure and report back to
Khryuseis.
10) after Karla's declaration of the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, visit
Khryuseis and take her message to Rostorl. Go to the palace, but
the guards won't let you in to see the queen yet. After talking
to the guards, go to the slum bar and talk to Xenetes, after
which you can get the guards at the palace to let you in to see
Elise. Accept her proposal and join the battle with Xenetes.
11) after the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, return to Khryuseis, and
she'll ask you for a 10,000 gia donation. If your Affinity with
her is high enough, you'll get a dialogue choice. Pick "because
I can't leave you alone" to get her ending. If you don't get the
dialogue, just keep donating money until you do.
MISC: Khryuseis is one of the most annoying characters in the game when
you first meet her, but she does get better later. Honest.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
FUGO & MRS FUGO
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Regardless of whatever appearance might suggest, the Fugos are
actually human. There are a number of random non-useable treasures
you can find in various dungeons to sell to them.
EVENTS: You can first meet Fugo in the basement of his museum in Liberdam,
though that's not necessary to meet him later on. As you gain
reputation as an adventurer (around when people start referring to
you by nickname), you can enter Fugo's residence in the upper class
district of Liberdam and start selling him artifacts.
After the fall of Liberdam, Fugo will relocate to Rosen, and you
can keep selling him artifacts. After the 2nd invasion of Rostorl
and the Shard of Life event, you can get the Stra's Edge from Fugo
if you've sold him enough artifacts; you'll have to fight Fugo,
Mrs. Fugo, and Didaro and win to get the weapon. Note that you
can't sell any more artifacts after acquiring the Stras' Edge.
===============================================================================
-MISC OTHER CHARACTERS---------------------------------------------------------
Almost all of these people are heavily involved in the major happenings, but
don't fit into any geographical category.
===============================================================================
NOELLE (SILVA), KAFINE, RAVEN
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Noelle is something like a alternate version of the protagonist
(unless that's Nemea), and appears in various events throughout the
game. Noelle's party includes Kafine, Raven, and Narshes. For
reasons that'll become apparent Narshes doesn't count as far as
endings and Affinity goes.
EVENTS: You'll first meet Noelle on the road between Rostorl and Liberdam,
prior to Nemea's succession. In fact, meeting Noelle is one of the
triggers for the succession event. Regardless of what you choose
and whether or not you win the boss fight, Noelle will begin
appearing in various events.
1) after Nemea's succession, you'll find Noelle and her party in
either Ancient or Liberdam's Guildhouse.
2) you'll then encounter Noelle's party on a random road. This is a
trigger for the fall of Rosen.
3) after this event, you'll find Noelle's party fighting in the
slums in Liberdam.
4) sometime later, you'll encounter an event involving Elfas and
Raven on the roads
5) if you're fighting for the Liberation Front, Noelle and co will
lend a hand during the Rosen's Belltower sequence.
6) after the fall of Aquiris, Narshes will request you help Noelle
at Dragon Island. Whether or not you go has a direct impact on
the final battle.
7) if you've saved Atreiya, Noelle appears during the Ryuga
Rebellion event.
8) if you went to Dragon Island to help Noelle and haven't defeated
the Dragon King prior to the final battle, you'll fight Noelle's
party prior to fighting the Dragon King. You must also be >level
50.
9) on the other hand, if you did not go to Dragon Island and have
killed the Dragon King before the final dungeon, you don't have
to fight Noelle and can get her best ending.
MISC: 1) most of Noelle and co's events are event triggers and will occur
anyway without any special effort on the part of the player. The
only event that you have some control over is the Dragon Island.
2) if you wind up fighting Noelle's party in the final dungeon and
have Lemghon in your active party at the time, you'll get a
surprising bit of background revelation.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
NEMO
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: One of the Knights of Urug, "the Keeper of Names", Nemo was turned
into a cat after he lost to Nemea. He now hangs out in the Cat
House providing you with info on Affinity.
EVENTS: After rescuing Ikremn, you'll get an inn event involving Nemo
trying to be cute. I'm not entirely certain what the exact
conditions for this are, though in my case I saw it after getting
the Forbidden Spell of Water, having seen the Mermaid's Earring
event and lost Angeerdan.
MISC: You can get Nemo's ending by asking him for Affinity 100 times or
more. Each character counts as once. He's fairly low priority,
however, so normally speaking you won't see it unless you're
trying.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
ASTIYA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Astiya is the protagonist's foster mother in the Oswald scenario,
and doesn't appear in any other scenario.
EVENTS: You really don't get any events with Astiya throughout the game,
but if you gather enough Dark Relics to get Urug, you can get her
ending by choosing "I have something I need to do" after the final
battle. In this case Astiya has higher priority than any other
ending in the game.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
EST (RYUGA)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Lemghon's younger brother, Est really doesn't pay much attention
to politics; instead, he spends his days prowling various dungeons
researching magical artifacts. Est is key to finding one of the
Dark Relics, as well as the Forbidden Spell of Light.
EVENTS: If you're starting from the "fields of shimmering gold" scenario,
you'll meet Est first in the town of Noble during the opening
sequence and then at the fountain of Rostorl, at which point he
tells you to go to the Cat House.
If you're starting from any other scenario, you'll find Est at the
fountain, after which he'll start appearing in the various
dungeons. The dungeons you'll find him in are:
1) Maiden's Mirror (near Ancient)
2) Maze of Famine (near Rostorl)
3) Thor's Peak (near Terane)
4) Illusory Lake (near Noble)
5) Underground Cemetery (near Rosen)
You can start meeting Est to raise his Affinity prior to Nemea's
succession, and it's a good idea to be at least Friendly to get the
Dark Relic. To get the Earring of Frustration:
1) after receiving Keryuneia's request to get the Dark Relics and
talking to Keryuneia, find Est in one of the above locations,
ask him about the Relic, and choose "of course".
2) after the 1st invasion of Rostorl, go to the Ryuga Residence in
Rostorl to receive Est's letter.
3) meet Est in the Underground Cemetery. He'll give you the Earring
after this event.
Towards the end of the game, after the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, you
can find Est in one of those locations and he'll tell you about the
Forbidden Spell of Light. Note that this won't occur if you've
started the search for Belzevar.
MISC: 1) it's not possible to find Est at the Ryuga Residence in Rostorl
as he's never home.
2) you'll also meet Est during the entire Count(ess) of Noble
fiasco if you're not starting from Noble.
3) Est also appears in a random tavern to comment on the Broken
Sword from Dergaad's events.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
SHAROME
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Sharome is the guy sealed up in the block of stone at the top of
the Tower of Magic in Ancient. You can first meet him by climbing
to the top of the tower.
EVENTS: 1) you can keep visiting Sharome any time you feel like it, though
the only event that involves him at this stage is the one in
Belzevar's chain [see Belzevar's section]
2) after Karla declares the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, Sharome will
tell you about the Forbidden Spell of Darkness if you have a
party member who has obtained the soul Negavanitia. The spell
is at the top of the Tower of the New Moon. If you want
Demolish as well as Sharome's ending, you have to go get the
the spell before you release him.
3) obtain Union Spell to release Sharome from the Tower of Magic
[see Yuris' section]
4) to get Sharome's ending, you have to fail to rescue Belzevar
from the Soul Reap event (either leave the event to occur
automatically, or run out of time during the escape). Sharome
then appears as the heal NPC at the gates of Ancient during
the last battle.
5) as with Belzevar, to obtain Sharome's ending you must be < level
50 after finishing the final battle.
MISC: Sharome doesn't have Affinity.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
HIRDALIA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Hirdalia is the captain of the Wansha pirates, and you'll need her
ship to clear some events at the end of the game.
EVENTS: Hirdalia hangs out in the pirate hideout, in the Undiscovered
Forest near Noble. To get access to the Gate of Darkness, you'll
need to borrow her ship, for which she'll ask you fight a kraken.
You can then go meet Hirdalia in her house normally, though as
there's no inn in the pirate hideout you'll need to shuttle between
there and the Old Castle to raise Affinity. Eventually she'll ask
you for a promise to return.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
GALDRAN
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Galdran thinks, nay, believes beyond the shadow of a doubt that
he's the Foretold Hero. Nothing the player or anybody else does
ever disabuses him of this notion.
EVENTS: See Naji's section on meeting Galdran and his early events.
During the Ryuga Rebellion, if you're playing as a male
protagonist, Galdran will challenge you to a fight. I believe that
in order to get his ending you must lose to him here, but in
addition to his pathetic combat ability, you're on a time limit so
it's rather difficult to achieve.
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
GOBBO BAND
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC INFO: Goblins who were empowered with some amount of intelligence and
the ability to talk through contact with the Forbidden Grail. Think
of them like the 3 Stooges of the ZO universe.
EVENTS: See Sera's section on the Forbidden Grail events. After the 2nd
invasion of Rostorl, the Gobbo Band can be found either in the
Ryuga Residence (if you saved Atreiya) or at Osshi's dojo (if you
saved Tiana).
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
SECTION 5: ENDINGS
===============================================================================
Endings are listed in the order they appear on the Ending list in the game.
Generally speaking the higher a character is on the list the higher their
priority, with the exception of Astiya and Door to the Future.
Common conditions that go without saying for all endings is that the character
in question must not be dead/missing/turned evil (unless they started out evil)
etc, and that you have a high Affinity (Love or better) with them (there are
exceptions to this). For any party members, they must have joined your party
AND participate in the final battle. Sadly, if you fulfil conditions for a high
priority character who's not a party member, eg. Elfas, there's no way to not
get his ending.
Some characters' endings are only available to a certain protagonist, or a
specific gender. Some others have different endings depending on gender of the
protagonist, or have different dialogue in the same ending. I won't write
specific ending conditions here, although I've mentioned some of them in the
characters section. Good luck.
1. NEMEA [Two Heroes]
2. ELFAS [Beauty Without Innocence]
3. XENETES [Let's Go]
4. LEMGHON [From Out Of Darkness]
5. SERA [Together With You]

11. KARLA [Beyond The Ocean Waves]
12. VAN & NAJI [To An Unknown World]
13. DERGAAD [The Finest Weapon]
14. IRENE [Returning To Routine]
15. YURIS [Best Witch In The World]
16. FLARE [Converging Lights]
17. ESTEL [No Adventure Without You]
18. AOIFE [To Live, To Discover]
19. CHAKA [One Who Journeys, One Who Remains]
20. ZAGIV [My Knight]

SECTION 6: FAQ
===============================================================================
1) What's the difference between starting locations?
Obviously, the starting event determines what your protagonist's initial goals
are, but otherwise most of the major historical events occur in the same way
for all scenarios. It does, however, have a fairly large impact on character-
specific subplot. It is possible to recruit every possible party member with
any starting scenario, but the level of difficulty for different characters
varies depending on starting location.
And of course, starting scenario as well as gender influences what endings you
can get, as well as what events you get to see. The best example of this are
the Noble scenarios, "small town on travels" and "fields of shimmering gold".
Each of those starting sequences only lets you see one side of what's actually
going on, but if you've played both you get a much better idea of the actual
progression.

2) Xenetes/Lemghon/Tiana/Atreiya died/went missing/turned evil! Waaah!
The entire gaggle of Rostorl nobility has some of the most complicated event
sequences in the game, and I haven't been able to completely sort out all of
the different combinations yet as most of them involve rather long event trains
that require a lot of time to putz through.
First, you can only save either Tiana OR Atreiya. Generally speaking if you
just leave things alone Atreiya turns evil by default; the practical side of
going to the effort to save Atreiya is that you don't have to fight Zahak
during the Ryuga Rebellion event (see Atreiya's profile for details).
Otherwise who you save is entirely a matter of personal preference and doesn't
have much of an impact on the overall plot.
As for Lemghon and Xenetes, doing nothing will get both of them killed. It's
possible to save one, both, or neither. How this relates to what events
you've done depends on a number of things, including which princess you
saved.
If you saved Tiana:
1a) and have completed Lemghon's events
2a) and have an Affinity of Trust or better with Xenetes, both join
2b) have an Affinity of Friendship or lower with Xenetes, Xenetes dies but
you can save Lemghon by making the correct choices and sacrificing a
lot of VIT.
1b) and have not completed Lemghon's events, both die/go missing
On the other hand, if you saved Atreiya:
1a) and have completed Lemghon's events, both join regardless of Xenetes'
Affinity
1b) and have not completed Lemghon's events
2a) but have an Affinity of Trust or better with Xenetes, Lemghon dies but
Xenetes joins
2b) and have an Affinity of Friendship or lower with Xenetes, both die/go
missing.
An exception for when you're starting from the Town on Travels Noble
scenario: since you can't meet Lemghon or see his events, you can save both
characters by simply having a high enough Affinity with Xenetes and having
heard his conversation about infinite souls.
The Aerial Gardens event is kind of complicated in and of itself, and while
it'd be great if you could just clobber all parties involved with a cluebat,
that's somehow never an option.

3) Speaking of Rostorl, the different versions of the 2nd invasion event are?
You can join/initiate this event a number of ways after Karla declares war on
Rostorl.
1) ignore the event and putz around, or travel the road between Rostorl and
Noble. The event occurs automatically, and you cannot recruit Karla, Irene,
Xenetes, or Lemghon, or obtain the Shield of Greed.
2) if you've received Keryuneia's letter about the Dark Relic at Zegna, you
can go to Zegna after Nemea. You can get the Shield of Greed, but the war
event happens without you and you can't get the above characters.
3) if you're still a member of Karla's forces at this point (ie, you betrayed
the Liberation Front and captured Khryuseis during the Liberdam events),
you can talk to Karla at Rosen to join Karla in the war. Furthermore, if
your Affinity with Xenetes is at Adoration, you can participate in the
Ryuga Rebellion afterwards.
4) if you're a member of the Liberation Front, on the other hand, and have
have been following up on Khryuseis' events, you can visit Khryuseis and
will be asked to deliver a letter to Queen Elise. To get into the palace,
you must first talk to Xenetes in the slum bar. You'll automatically hit
both Zegna for the Shield, and the Ryuga Rebellion event afterwards. You
can also get Irene and Karla if you run away from Irene during the fight.
5) if you're on good terms with Xenetes, simply find him at the Guildhouse in
Rostorl and agree to join the war. Events play out same as above.
6) if you've saved Atreiya, you can visit her by the secret entrance and
she'll ask you to help Xenetes in the war. If you accept, the events occur
as above.
7) furthermore, if you're the Count(ess) of Noble, you can talk to the guards
at the palace gates to get invited into Xenetes' recruiting effots. Ditto
events above.
8) as yet unconfirmed, it appears that if you decline Xenetes' request and
stay at the inn, you'll skip the war and go straight to the Ryuga Rebellion
event. You can't get the Shield of Greed, Karla or Irene in this case.

4) I just finished the 2nd invasion of Rostorl, for some reason Ancient is full
of monsters and Naji's left for . . . somewhere . . .? WTF?
This is an apparent bug, which I encountered on my first play through.
Apparently if you stop history for too long at any one point, the calender goes
wonky and subsequent events start overriding each other. The result is that the
Corns Rebellion and Soul Reap events that are supposed to occur after the 2nd
invasion don't occur, but you get the results as if they had. Since the Corns
Rebellion technically never occurred (or possibly ended before it started,
whichever way you want to look at it), it never ends, which means that Naji
leaves and you can't get him back, but he also never actually dies as he would
have if you left the Corns event to play itself out. Similarly, Belzevar who's
supposed to be in Ancient disappears but neither returns nor dies, as do the
Via/Vai twins. Encountering this bug, you can't get the twins, Belzevar, or
Aoife, you lose Naji, and could lose Zagiv if you don't keep her in your party
when you go to the final dungeon. You also can't save Flare, or obtain Union
Spell before the final dungeon.
It's still unclear as to the exact cause of this, but current theories are that
it happens if you stop history too long at any given point. The wonky results
are a reality rift between certain areas that think they're in one phase of
history and the rest of the world thinking they're in another.
--
5) Fighting Naji during the Corns Rebellion event causes the game to freeze.
Yes, yes it does. If you defeat Naji (regardless of whether you have Van with
you and thus the eventual outcome) without killing his two guards first, the
game will freeze. To be on the safe side, either kill the guards first or take
them all out with All Attack.
--
6) Between the start and end of the Corns Rebellion, there's 4549110 things to
do. Is it possible to do all of them?
Yes, but only with very economical timing. I generally find that the window
between the start and end of the Corns Rebellion is very narrow, and there are
several things to do during this phase:
-saving Naji. If you visit the Cat House, Naji will defect. You have to go to
Arnotun with Van to get him back.
-saving Flare. In order to save Flare, you have to go to Ulkarne, defeat the
giant in the Shrine of Fire, then sleep a night at the inn.
-escorting Aoife. You'll find Aoife in the town square of Ancient, and she'll
ask you to escort her to Elles. Delaying too long will cause her to leave.
-Zerashel and the twin sisters. In order to get the twins and Zerashel's event
chain, you have to encounter them in the slums at Ancient. It's not necessary
to follow up on them immediately, just make sure you don't forget to find
them.
There's also some other events that are related, mostly to the Soul Reap:
-Zagiv and the Seaspray Islands. You'll lose Zagiv if Soul Reap occurs while
she's not in the party.
-saving Belzevar. If Soul Reap occurs automatically either with time or after
Zagiv's Islands event, you won't be able to save Belzevar. Also, as rescuing
Belzevar requires that he tags along as an NPC, the event won't happen if you
have someone in the NPC slot (eg Aoife)
-Yuris and Union Spell. You can get Union Spell after the 2nd invasion of
Rostorl, but if Soul Reap occurs you can't get it until the final dungeon,
and thus can't complete Yuris' events.
-Est and Advent. Est will tell you about the Forbidden Spell of Light if you
find him after the 2nd invasion, but you won't be able to see this event
if you already saved Belzevar.
The trigger for having Soul Reap occur automatically is passing through a
certain number of locations (towns or dungeons, road points don't count).
Thus, you want to have all the necessary characters in your party so you don't
waste time going to the Cat House. The sequence I've worked out is:
1) go straight to Ancient after the 2nd invasion. Corns Rebellion begins.
2) go to the Cat House. Naji will defect. Switch your party to Zagiv, Van, and
Yuris.
3) go the Ulkarne and do Flare's events
4) return to Ancient, pick up Aoife as an NPC
5) do Yuris' Union Spell related events
6) go to Arnotun and save Naji
7) return to Ancient, go through Rosen and escort Aoife to Elles
8) return to Ancient from Elles, go to the Maiden's Mirror to talk to Est
9) go back to Ancient and talk to Belzevar to start Soul Reap
10) fight the Kraken at the Wansha hideout
11) go to the Cat House to start Zagiv's event
The downside to this is that you're stuck with Zagiv, Van, and Yuris being the
characters that get Union Spell, which may or may not be a problem depending
on whether you use those characters.

7) What do you get when you start a New Game+?
You can save your game after the ending, at which point you can create a CLEAR
DATA file. Loading that from the title screen, you'll be asked if you want to
start from just prior to the final boss(es); if you choose no, it will ask if
you want to start a new game with extra stuff.
A New Game+ lets you keep all of the Soul Points and Steel Ores you've
accumulated (you'll be reimbursed for the ones you've used) and give you back
some, though not all, of your Skill Points. You can choose to start from a new
location, Oswald, and can see Roy's Affinity in Nemo's list.
Furthermore, once you've saved a CLEAR DATA with an ending, you can view it by
loading any save in the same memory card. The save you load determines the name
of the protagonist and his/her equipment as shown in the ending. You can't view
male-only endings with a female protagonist or vice-versa; they'll still show
up in the endings list but they'll be greyed out.

8) How do I get the Soul Urug?
You need to have collected a number of the Dark Relics before you fight Urug
to get the Soul Urug. The ones you need to get are:
1) Bracelet of Binding
2) Necklace of Pride
3) Earring of Frustration
4) Forbidden Grail
5) Shield of Greed
6) Mace of Fury
You can get a number of other Dark Relics such as the Eye of Allure, Statue of
the Hell Maiden, and Sword of Oblivion, but you don't need them to get Urug.
--
9) What about Infinitia?
Sometime towards the middle to later half of the game (around the fall of
Aquiris?) you'll hear about the holy site of the elves from the elf standing
near the Thousand Year Tree in Rostorl. You can go to the Ancient Forest near
Arnotun to get Infinitia after you get this information.
--
10) How many final bosses ARE there?
Final bosses, in this game, are culmulative rather than an either/or option.
This means that, during the final series of battles, if you fulfil conditions
for extra bosses, you get extra bosses instead of having one boss replace
another. You'll fight anywhere between 2 and 6 battles between the last save
and the end. Note that you also won't be able to recover HP/MP between fights.
--
11) What does "Zill O'll" actually MEAN?
Your guess is as good as mine. I have heard that it's an acronymn for "zillion
of will", which makes possibly even less sense in that usual Engrish sort of
way.
