1. INTRODUCTION

While playing Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, you will receive
many emails from various sources. Some are just miscellaneous bits of info
to liven up the game world; others can be quite useful to your quest; still
others are actually advertisements for other Namco games!

Only Shion can receive emails. Note that she does not actually have to be
in your party, but she has to be at least available; in other words, you
cannot get email during the segments where you play as Ziggy and MOMO or
where you play as Jr. Also, emails are location, not time, dependent, so
if you cease to receive emails for awhile it's time to start advancing the
plot. See the Email List below for more details.

Certain emails require you to reply to them. While the text of the message
is up, simply press O (in the US release, this is likely to be changed to
X) and a list of three possible responses will come up. Simply pick the one
you want and press O again to send the reply email.

Other emails will have a file attached to them which you can download. The
file can be anything from items to use, plugins for your UMN module, or
even new equipment for KOS-MOS. To download a file, simply find an email
in your inbox which has a highlighted paper clip icon (signifying that it
does have a file attached) and press O. A side menu will come up; the third
option is download, after which point you can enjoy the benefits of whatever
you downloaded.

Including reply emails, there are a total of 51 emails that you may send/
receive throughout the course of the game. There are actually more, but
since you have to choose at certain points you will not receive all of them.
In most cases, emails which you have to choose from have "right" answers
and "wrong" answers. Again, see the list below for details.

Finally, for those of you who think that emails are no big deal, think again;
not only is the email "minigame" required to get great items such as the
F-BSHOT and the F-SCYTHE, it also can give you discounts on items and lots of
Gold -- perfect for those of you trying to save up to buy that snazzy
AG-05!


2. EMAIL LIST

Here I will list the emails you may receive throughout the game. Since emails
are in most cases location dependent (as well as dependent on what part of
the game you are at, for locations you visit more than once), this section
is divided into general locations. Each email also has a specific location and
a note if that email is required for anything special.

Each email marked "Namco Advertisement" will only be received if you choose
to give your email address to the mechanic standing near the exit to the Zohar
Emulator room on the Woglinde.

DISCLAIMER
This FAQ was written off of the original Japanese version of the game. I have
since been informed that in the American release of XSI, several of the
emails (notably the "Advertisement" emails) have had their content, location,
or both changed. Thus, if you cannot seem to get a certain email listed in
my guide, if it is an Advertisement email it may be impossible to get, period.

Woglinde - Before seeing Zohar Emulator
**You will receive the first four emails automatically in the corridor before
you reach the room with the Zohar Emulator

Woglinde - After Zohar Emulator and before counselling the Realiens
#05. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: None
    You will receive an email from Miyuki. She will tell you she is sending
    you the actual MWS based on the data received from the virtual one you
    used in the simulator.

Woglinde - After counselling the Realiens and before reaching the bridge
#06. Location: Realien Counselling Room. You must leave the room once and then
    come back.
    Special: Required for you to claim a 200,000G (!) prize later in the
    game
    You will receive an email from Vector's security division. It seems that
    somebody has hacked into their systems. They will ask you to help them
    find the culprit. You should reply to this email as soon as possible.
---> #07. This is your reply to email #06. The first choice says you will
    accept; the second says sorry, you don't have the time. Take the first
    choice.
#08. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Database will be enabled
    Database service now online. After this email you can use the Database on
    the UMN.
#09. Location: D-3 Block, near the nook with the sofas.
    Special: Required to receive the F-SCYTHE
    You will receive a secret mail from Miyuki. She clues you in as to a
    possible new weapon in development for KOS-MOS and asks you if you have
    any interest in it. You should reply to this email as soon as possible.
---> #10. This is your reply to email #09. The first choice says you read the
    mail. The second choice scolds Miyuki. Take the first choice.
#11. Location: D-4 Block, to the right of the Segment Address #7 door.
    Special: Namco Advertisement
    This is an advertisement for Namco's Ninja Assault.

Woglinde - After reaching the bridge, before the Gnosis attack
#12. Location: In front of the bridge's elevator
    Special: Must have replied correctly to #09. Required for the F-SCYTHE
    Miyuki will send you the Sprinkle, a plugin for the UMN.
#13. Location: D-5 Block, to the left of one of the holographic plant displays
    Special: Must have 500G to reply
    This is the first of the many UM Fund Investment mails you will receive.
    This particular one is for medical supplies. You have three choices.
---> #14. This is your reply to email #13. The first choice invests in
    Hasegawa; the second, in Vector; and the third, in Dawson. It doesn't
    matter which one you pick, although if you want the F-BSHOT quicker,
    invest in Vector; see #17 for what you get.
#15. Location: To the left of the Vector room with the KOS-MOS team
    Special: Namco Advertisement
    Advertisement for Smash Court.

Elsa - Before bringing the curry to Andrew
#16. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: EVS Simulator will be enabled
    This email will tell you about the EVS simulator and will enable the
    KOS-MOS Simulator, Woglinde, and Pleroma Asteroid maps.
#17. Location: After leaving the Elsa kitchen, go to the right around the #2
              cabin
    Special: Must have replied to email #13
    The investment you made will pay off. If you invested in Hasegawa, you
    will receive 5 Aquasists; in Vector, 5 Rosesists; and in Dawson, 5
    Zetasists. In all three cases you will also now receive 10% off any
    item purchase.
#18. Location: Guaranteeed
    Special: Must have replied to email #06
    This will be a response. If you said you would accept, the email thanks
    you and says more details will be sent later. If you rejected, the
    mail says that is a pity.

Elsa - After being called by the captain, before reaching the bridge
#19. Location: Number 2 Cabin, VERY close to the table. You must literally
    be touching the table.
    Special: None
    A mail for the 4767 Autumn/Winter catalog of Select Shop/MIG.

#20. Location: In the dining hall
    Special: Namco Advertisement (?)
    This is an email from Klonoa, of all people.

Elsa - After reaching the bridge, before reaching the Catapult
#21. Location: After exiting the bridge, to the right (near the save point)
    Special: Required for the F-BSHOT; must have 1000G to reply
    Another UM Fund investment. This time, it's for industry. Once again
    you have three choices.
---> #22. This is your reply to email #21. The first choice invests in the
    Venturing Company (VL). The second choice invests in Tesla. The third
    invests in the Circulation Center. Invest in VL if you want the F-
    BSHOT. See email #26 for the benefits.

Elsa - After checking the Catapult, before being attacked
#23. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Must have accepted email #06
    Another mail from Vector Security. It will say that they've narrowed
    down the possible location of the culprit. A list will soon follow.
#24. Location: Immediate after #23
    Special: Must have accepted email #06
    This will list three possible locations for the hacker.
---> #25. This is your reply to email #24. The first choice is an asteroid;
    the second, a satellite; and the third, a cargo ship. The
    correct choice is the cargo ship.

Elsa - While showing Ziggy and MOMO around
#26. Location: Near the savepoint on B2
    Special: Must have replied to email #21. Required for the F-BSHOT.
    Once again, your investment pays off. If you invested in VL, you
    will receive 4000G, and 10% off future AGWS weapon purchases.
    If you invested in Tesla, you will receive 6000G. If you invested in
    the Circulation Center, you will get a piddling 2 Speed Stars.
    Obviously, VL is the way to go.
#27. Location: In the Catapult room
    Special: Required for the F-BSHOT; must have 2000G to reply
    Another investment email, this time for IT. Again, there are three
    possible companies.
---> #28. This is your reply to email #27. The first choice invests in ACM.
    The second invests in Mercedes; the third, in Vector. Reply to Vector
    for the F-BSHOT. See email #33 for benefits.

Dock Colony - Before leaving the Elsa
#29. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Enables R-DRILL.
    This mail from Vector enables KOS-MOS to use the R-DRILL.

Dock Colony - After Andrew is attacked
#XX. Location: B1 Elevator on Elsa
    Special: Must have replied correctly to emails #21 and #27
    Some people report that after investing in VL and Vector, you will
    receive the F-BSHOT here. You must download it to use it. It seems
    that if you also selected Vector for email #13, you will get the
    F-BSHOT here. If not, don't worry; another opportunity comes up
    later.
#30. Location: Clinic center room. The window of opportunity for this mail
              is extremely small. You must have run into Hammer, but
              instead of following him you must return to the clinic
              first.
    Special: Namco Advertisement
    Advertises the new Pac-man game.
#31. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: EVS Map
    This mail enables the U-TIC Battleship map.

Durandal - Before finding MOMO
#32. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: EVS Map
    This mail enables the Gnosis Mothership map.
#33. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Must have replied to email #27
    Your IT investment pays off. If you invested in ACM, you will receive
    4000G. If you invested in Mercedes, you will receive 8000G. If you
    invested in Vector, you will get a Decoder plugin. Also, ACM and Vector
    investors get 10% off future purchases of AGWS accessories.
#34. Location: Waiting Room
    Special: Must have 6000G to reply. May or may not be required for the
             F-BSHOT.
    Another Investment, this time for mechanical industry. You have three
    choices.
---> #35. This is your reply to email #34. The first choice is Shijima; the
    seoncd invests in Hamilton, and the third, Alchemia. If you have not
    received the F-BSHOT at the email marked #XX., you must invest in
    Alchemia to receive the F-BSHOT. Otherwise, you can invest in whichever
    one you wish. See #36 for benefits.

Durandal - After finding MOMO
#36. Location: Near escalator in the Park section
    Special: Must have replied to email #34
    Another investment pays off. If you invested in Shijima, you get a
    whopping 72,000G. Hamilton investors get 48,000G, while Alchemia
    investors get a mere 24,000G.
#37. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Must have responded correctly to emails #21, #27, and #34
    If you did not receive the F-BSHOT before, this is when you will
    receive it. You must download it to use.
#38. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Must have replied to email #24
    Now you get to see if you caught the hacker. If you guessed the cargo
    ship, you will get another decoder plugin (different from Vector's).
    If you guessed the satellite, you wil fail to catch the hacker and
    you will get 40,000G for your efforts. If you guessed the asteroid,
    you will barely miss the hacker and get 60,000G for your efforts.
#39. Location: Residence Area
    Special: Namco Advertisement
    This is an advertisement for Ace Compact 4.

Kookai Foundation
#40. Location: Gaignun Private Beach
    Special: Must have caught the hacker in #38
    Uhoh! The hacker you caught committed suicide in jail, and now his
    clone sister is after you! She will challenge you to catch her as well,
    and she will provide hints in the email as to where she is. However,
    they are encrypted! If you got both decoder plugins (from emails #33
    and #38), you will be able to read all the hints. Or, you could just
    cheat and read the next email description.
---> #41. This is your reply to email #40. There are three possible locations;
    the Durandal, the U-TIC Battleship, and the Pleroma Asteroid. The
    correct answer is the Durandal.
#42. Location: Near the right side exit to the 26-27 Block
    Special: Must have talked to the Pink Bug and not destroyed it in the
    26-27 Block warehouse.
    The Pink Bug will send you a picture of yourself. Nice!

Kookai Foundation - After Encephalon, while rescuing people
#43. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: EVS Map
    This mail enables the Encephalon map.
#44. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Enables the X-BUSTER and sends the F-RSHOT
    KOS-MOS will be able to use the X-BUSTER. Also, you can download the
    F-RSHOT for use.
#45. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Must have replied to email #40.
    Again, you will see if you caught the hacker. If you said Durandal,
    you will be congratulated. If you did not, the hacker's sister will
    chide you, but you will get 100,000G for your efforts.

Kookai Foundation - After rescuing people
#46. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Enables the S-CHAIN and R-SPAINE
    KOS-MOS will be able to use the S-CHAIN and the R-SPAINE
#47. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Must have replied correctly to email #09, waaaaaaaay back
    This mail sends the F-SCYTHE, probably KOS-MOS's best weapon. You
    must download it to use.

After Clearing Nephilim's Song
#48. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Enables R-DRAGON
    This mail enables KOS-MOS's last 'waza, the R-DRAGON.
#49. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: Must have responded correctly to email #40.
    Mad about the simple congratulations from #45? Worry not! If you
    caught both hackers, you will be rewarded with a whopping 200,000G!
    Now that AG-05 seems semi-affordable!
#50. Location: Guaranteed
    Special: EVS Map
    This mail enables the Nephilim's Song map.
#51. Location: Upper roads of the left side of the 26-27 block
    Special: Namco Advertisement
    Cyber Sports advertisement.


3. OTHER NOTES

This is a condensed instruction list for those of you looking to maximize
your rewards from the email game.

F-BSHOT
1. On the Elsa, after reporting to the bridge, and before checking the
  catapult, go to the save point to the right of the bridge entrance.
  Invest in the Venturing Company (VL) for 1000G.
2. On the Elsa, while showing Ziggy and MOMO around, go to the B2 Save
  Point. You will receive your investment reward from the VL.
3. On the Elsa, while showing Ziggy and MOMO around, go to the Catapult
  Deck. Invest in Vector.com for IT, for 2000G.
4. When the Elsa docks at the Dock Colony, before going to find Andrew
  go to the elevator on the B1 floor. There you should receive the
  F-BSHOT.

F-SCYTHE
1. On the Woglinde, go to the D-3 Block and find the nook in the wall with
  the sofa. Miyuki will send you a secret email. Respond saying that
  you are interested.
2. Once on the bridge of the Woglinde, go near the elevator. Miyuki will
  send you the Sprinkle.
3. Way later in the game, on the Durandal after rescuing people in the
  Foundation, you will receive an email from Miyuki sending you the
  F-SCYTHE.

200,000G
1. On the Woglinde, after counselling the Realiens, leave and reenter
  the room and walk around the center. You will receive the mail from
  Vector Security. Respond saying you will assist them in tracking the
  hacker.
2. On the Elsa, while bringing curry to Andrew, you will receive an email
  thanking you.
3. On the Elsa, after checking out the Catapult, you will receive two
  emails from Vector Security. Respond to the second email saying that
  the cargo ship is the most suspicious.
4. After finding MOMO on the Durandal, you will receive an email saying
  that the hacker was apprehended.
5. On the Foundation at the Gaignun Private Beach, you will receive an
  email challenge from the hacker's sister. Respond saying that you think
  she is at the Durandal.
6. After clearing the 2nd Encephalon, you will receive a congratulations
  from the sister.
7. After clearing Nephilim's Song, you will receive your prize of
  200,000G.

10% DISCOUNT ON ITEMS
1. On the Woglinde, after appearing on the bridge, go to the D-5 block
  and walk under the overhanging columns connected to the holographic
  plants, near the large holograph screen. Invest in whichever company
  you want.
2. On the Elsa, while bringing curry to Andrew, walk around the #2 Cabin
  to the right. You will receive your investment reward and the discount
  on future purchases.

10% DISCOUNT ON AGWS WEAPONS
1. On the Elsa, after reporting to the bridge, and before checking the
  catapult, go to the save point to the right of the bridge entrance.
  Invest in the Venturing Company (VL) for 1000G.
2. On the Elsa, while showing Ziggy and MOMO around, go to the B2 Save
  Point. You will receive your investment reward from the VL and a
  10% discount on future AGWS weapons purchases.

10% DISCOUNT ON AGWS ACCESSORIES
1. On the Elsa, while showing Ziggy and MOMO around, go to the Catapult
  Deck. Invest in Vector.com for IT, for 2000G.
2. On the Durandal, before finding MOMO, you will receive your investment
  reward from Vector.com and a 10% discount on future AGWS accessory
  purchases.
