3. Controls
---------------
Key
-------
X - X button
[ ] - Square button
(  ) - Circle button
/_\ - Triangle button
( R ) - Right analog stick
Button+Button - Press both buttons together to perform the action.

Attacking Basics (With Ball)
-----------------------------------------
X - Pass
[ ] - Shoot
(  ) - Lob/Cross
/_\ - Through Ball - Plays a ball in front of one of your players; useful for
splitting open opposition defences. See Top Tips.
R1 - Sprint

Attacking Basics (Ball in Air)
------------------------------------------
X - Passing header
[ ] - Attempt header/volley/overhead kick
R1 - Sprint

Defensive Basics (Without Ball)
---------------------------------------------
X  (Hold) - Tackle
[ ] (Hold) - Tackle - Like X Tackle but instead of one player going for the
ball, your player will go for the ball and one of your teammates will come to
back you up.
(  ) - Sliding Tackle
L1 - Change player - Changes the player you are controlling, e.g. to a player
closer to the ball.
R1 - Sprint

Defensive Basics (With Ball)
-----------------------------------------
Same controls as Attacking except Square boots the ball away if it's in your
half.

Defensive Basics (Ball in Air)
------------------------------------------
X - Passing header
[ ] - Head ball away
R1 - Sprint

Goalkeeper Basics (Without ball)
------------------------------------------------
X - Pass
[ ] - Kick
/_\ (Hold) - Keeper rush out

Goalkeeper Basics (Ball in hands)
-------------------------------------------------
(  ) or [ ] - Kick
X - Throw
R1 - Have the keeper drop the ball at his feet. You can now control him like a
normal player.

Advanced moves/tricks
---------------------------------
L1+X, then /_\ - One two pass - You will pass to a teammate, then just before
he touches the ball, press /_\. The first player will continue running and
receive the ball again. Great for breaking through tight defences.

L1+/_\ - Lobbed Through Ball - This could be classed as a cheat against some
teams as it's so effective, especially on the lower difficulty levels. Use it
with one of your midfielders, and he will lob the ball over the oppositions
defence and (hopefully) straight into the path of one of your strikers who will
have a clear run at goal. Deadly against some teams, but me and my mate found
that Italy are particularly good at stopping this 'cheat' becaue their defence
plays so far back it's nearly impossible to lob them. Just make sure you don't
get caught offside, which is the only downfall with this move.

L1 (Double Tap) - Shimmy - Effective when going down the wings because your
player will play the ball a little way in front of him after completing the
shimmy and then sprint after it, which can beat defenders more easily.

R2 - Slower Sprint - This is a slower version of the R1 sprint, and I don't see
much point in using it except to show off. It can provide better control,
though.

(  ) twice from cross position - Near Post Cross - This will execute a near
post cross, which I think is the best type of cross. It can pick out players
who are left unmarked, and is far easier to score from than a normal cross, IMO.

(  ) three times from cross position - Low cross - This cross will pass the
ball along the ground ready for a tap-in by one of your strikers. It can cause
havoc at times, and the inevitable goalmouth scrambles can be hilarious, but
more often than not it will be cleared by the oppositions' defenders or pounced
upon by the keeper. It is also more difficult to do than the Near Post Cross
because of the short time that you have to press all the buttons in.

R2 and (  ) from cross position - High cross - I have actually never used this,
but apparetly it lofts the ball high into the air.

R2 (Double Tap) - Step Over - This is quite like the shimmy. Could be effective
if used correctly.

[ ] before your player touches the ball - First time
shot/volley/header/overhead kick - At worst, this will produce an ordinary
header. At best, it can produce some truly stunning goals. For example, when I
was playing in the Master League, I took a free kick with Luis Garcia which hit
the Newcastle wall, but Harry Kewell came racing up to smash the ball past the
keeper on the half volley (why can't he do that in real life?) for one of the
best goals I have scored in the Master League.

L1 and [ ] - Chip shot - Now we get to show off! If you're in the clear and th
keeper starts rushing out at you, just tap, and I mean TAP, L1 and [ ] to have
your player delicately lob the keeper. Great for rubbing it in against your
mates, but make sure you don't hold the buttons for too long, or they'll be the
ones laughing at you when you hit the scoreboard.

[ ] and then R1 while shooting gauge is displayed - Chip shot 2 - This is a
lower, mostly less effective, and more difficult to pull off version of the
first Chip shot.

Double tap directional pad left or right while stopped - Body Feint - Just used
to show off I think.

Press and hold R1 before receiving the ball - Dummy the ball - You want to play
like Arsenal? Before you receive the ball, hold R1 to let it run past you or
through your legs and hopefully on to another one of your players. This can
sometimes really confuse defences, but it can be annoying because sometimes
when you want your player to sprint he will perform this move without you
wanting him to.

Now we get to be really flashy!

Push ( R ) down then up - Lift the ball - This chips the ball a little bit in
front of you, I think it's meant to avoid sliding tackles. Most of the time
it's too much trouble to be worth it, though.

Rotate ( R ) fully - Marseilles turn AKA The Maradona - If your player has
enough skill, then he will turn through a full 360 degrees with the ball.
Flashy!

4. Main Menu
--------------------
When the main menu loads, there are a number of choices for you to select.

I will explain these more fully later.

5. Master League
-------------------------
When you select Master League, there are three options concerning the players
in your team:

ML Default Players - ISS or PES veterans will remember these bunch of nobodies
as the losers you were previously forced tos start with. Yep, Barota, Castolo,
Ximelez, they're all here for you to laugh at their abysmal skills. Only choose
this if you want a challenge but don't want to increase the difficulty.

Create original team - This is the team of nobodies plus up to three players of
your choosing (depending on wages). So you can have a team whose strike force
consists of Castolo and Henry, it's up to you. But is you choose a world class
player, such as Henry, then you will probably only be able to have one player
instead of three because of his big wage demands.

Match Mode Players - Here you get to start with the players who usually feature
in your chosen side in Match Mode.

The basic aim is to win matches to qualify for league 1, and to try and win the
cup. When the transfer window opens, you can also spend the points you have
earned in previous matches to purchase additional players for your squad. This
is meant to be the main PES4 game mode.

-----------------------------
Other Game Modes
-----------------------------

Match
---------
Here you can play a one to four player friendly match, or try your hand at a
penalty shoot-out to see if England can beat Portugal in the virtual world. You
can play on any difficulty, and play a 5 to 30 minute match.

League
-----------
This is like 'Season' mode in you-know-which inferior game ;). You can play in
the English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish or Italian Leagues, or create your
own custom league to play with your mates. If you've completed Master League,
see if you can take your club to domestic glory.

Cup
------
Play in the World Cup or any of the other regional cups, or create your own.
World Cup 2006, anyone?

Training
------------
Practice commands in a training match, or try adn perfect your free kicks on
the practice pitch.

Edit
------
Here's where you can make your game just like FIFA, if you can be bothered.
Change everything from league names to the length of Beckham's socks. You can
even create the proper badge for your club team, but sadly not for
international teams. Oh well, maybe next time. Has your team not got a shirt
sponsor? Make one here, too.

Options
------------
This just contains all of the usual stuff, as well as the PES Shop.

---------------
7. PES Shop
---------------
This is where you can spend all of your hard-earned points. Here's the list of
the stuff you can buy:

- ****** Difficulty
- Rainbow ball effect
- Double-speed match
- Master leaugue starting points editor
- Master league composition editor
- Crazy hairstyles (and I mean crazy)
- Classic Teams
- Classic Players
- More match balls

Happy spending!

8. Top Tips
----------------

1. Use the lobbed through ball - it works!

2. Don't use too many tricks, you'll just get humiliated.

3. Start off easy and work up the difficulty levels.

4. Just TAP the buttons on a chip shot or the ball will be in Row Z before you
have time to swear at the player!

5. In Master League, don't go spending all of your points on a world-class
player, you need some to pay your existing players' wages.

6. Make sure you win some games in Master League, or your end of season points
total will not be enough and it'll be game over.

7. Make sure you've got lots of memory card space to save you data on.

8. Try to avoid playing at the Cuito Cuanavale stadium, because the pitch is
rubbish and you can hardly see the ball.
