Most chances are that this FAQ won't be changed unless I find something new
in the game or somebody e-mails me to change something because it is wrong
or add something I don't have (see contact section).
1.0 - First, full version of the FAQ
1.5 - "Tracks" section updated, now includes track strategy, some small
spelling corrections too

My fourth FAQ, I'm writing it because this game is awesome (and because there's
money at stake)! There's not much to write about this game, as you can easily
figure out everything yourself.
I'm not here to give you racing strategies, because with most racing games,
either you're good or not. I've tried using the strategies in some Gran Turismo
4 guides and even in the instruction booklet, but found them useless, because I
was trying to follow the strategies more than actually race or win. So if you
need some assistance with your strategy, then just look at the Gran Turismo 4
guides, because they'll pretty much give you all the information you need (if
you need it in the first place).
If will also not mention any rider gear, because I find it too pointless to
even make a list for it. If you really need a list, just as someone on the
message board, and maybe, if you're lucky, they'll make a specialized FAQ just
for the rider gear.
I have implemeted the "fast code" system, only because I expect this FAQ to be
big, and don't want to make finding a section hard for anybody. And the ASCII
titles were made trying to replicate the font used on the cover of the game,
which is pretty much just slated block text.
And one last thing to note, unless otherwise specified, all the sections pertain
to Tourist Trophy mode, which is the main mode in the game, kind of like career
mode in other games.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
There is no real object to the game because there's no real way to end it,
unless you consider doing the TT World Series as the end of the game (being the
last race and all). You start your career with one bike (which isn't too good).
You can do whatever you want from the start, but doing licenses first is the
best choice, because there's not much you can to without at least the beginner
license. After you get your licenses, you then have to race for the bikes you
want. The better the bike, the harder the challenge, but there are only 2 types
of races: ones where you have to get in front of the leader in a set number of
laps for 10 seconds, or where you have to complete a track in under a set time.
After you get the bikes you desire, you can then use them to race in actual
races, to win, well, more bikes. There is no money in this game, and you can't
get rid of your bikes, so pretty much all you do is race to win bikes to win
races to win bikes to win races etc. because sometimes you have to win a race
event to get a specific type of bike for a race that is not available in
Challenge mode.
However, the selection and variety of bikes and tracks (mainly from Gran
Turismo) are what make this game fun, along with it being extremely realistic.
You also have the option of changing riding gear, but this is completely
optional and not needed. Changing the riding form, or the bike settings
(which is less than in a Gran Turismo game), however, can make a big
difference, and that's why this game is so realistic. For example, taking a
turn too slow will make you fall toward the inside of the turn. Too fast
and you won't make it out of the turn (or at least on the pavement, and being
off the pavement does really bad for handling and acceleration).

The licenses are divided into 4 classes: Novice, Junior, Expert, and Super.
Novice should be a bare minimum when starting a game. Try to get all gold, too,
because the prize bikes are pretty good. I will not tell you strategies here on
how to beat the licenses, because I can't give you more information than the
game can, and I can't really break any of the tests down, because I found all
of the parts easy. The numbers after the test name are the gold times.

insignificance of the rider gear in the game.

After you aquire some licenses, it's off to winning bikes. Almost every bike
has unique winning standards, and those standards depend on the license class
of the bike. I will not tell you strategies for winning bikes, because most of
the bikes are very easy to win; if you can win one bike, you should be able to
win all of them. Note: you can't win bikes for licenses you haven't done.
For all bikes that require no license, Novice License, or Junior License, you
will have to pass up a single opponent for 10 seconds within a set number of
laps.
For all bikes that require Expert License, you will have to pass up three
opponents, and pass up the person in first for 10 seconds within a set number
of laps.
For all bikes that require Super License, you will have to complete a course
within the set time.
Note that not all bikes can be won doing the Challenge Series. There are some
bikes (usually just RacingModified or RM versions of regular bikes) that are
only unlocked through races.
I have not listed the bikes here, because not only would that take a helluva
lot of time to to (to write the bike name, the track, the number of laps/time),
but it's pointless, because seeing it in this FAQ isn't really going to help.

Note: This race is not unlocked until you have finished the TT World Series
Race in first place.
General Note:
If you have a large selection of bikes available to choose for a race, don't
go automatically to the bike with the most displacement or horsepower. Although
they might be the fastest, they might not have good cornering, so practice with
some different bikes to find the best one for the said race.
Another General Note:
If you complete the championship of a race, the place you get in the race on a
said race is the same place you'll get on the individual tracks upon completing
the championship. For example, if you got 1st place in the first race of a
championship, you'll also get 1st place in the race if you were to do it
individually. This game pretty much fixes that bug in Gran Turismo 4.
Note: If in requirements, it says "Bike type", then that means there is a
specific bike you need. Please consult the game for more info.

Here I will give you the full stats on each track, including its difficulty,
I will try to explain each track in as much detail as possible, but if you
really think about it, all you have to do is brake halfway to three quarters of
the way down a straight before a turn, and then accelerate about halfway to
three quarters of the turn out.
[TT.009A]
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Region: USA
Difficulty: Hard
Length: 2.24 miles
Elevation Change: 180.4 feet
Notes: Speed down the hill until it starts to level up. Gas a bit going out of
the turn, then go onto the outside going out of the next turn, and then you'll
have to slow down a bit coming out of the next turn. Gas down the small straight
and slow down for the turn, and then gas again down the straight. Slow down
at the turn going uphill, then speed up a bit for the next turn, and then slow
down for the next sharp turn, the corkscrew. You can lose your balance here
easily, so be careful, and try not to go through the middle of it. Gas a bit to
the next two turns, and then slow down for the next turn going into the
straight that leads to the finish line.
[TT.009B]
Infineon Raceway
Region: USA
Difficulty: Hard
Length: 2.37 miles
Elevation Change: 163.4 feet
Notes: Gas through the first turn near the start, and then slow down a bit for
the next one. Slow down even more going up the hill, then speed up a bit for the
next turn, and even more for the next. Then slow down for the next turn, and gas
through the exit into the long straight. Brake for the next turn, and then just
gas through it. Go down the small straight and slow down a lot for the next
tight turn.
[TT.009C]
Tsukuba Circuit
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Medium
Length: 1.29 miles
Elevation Change: 17.4 feet
Notes: Gas it through the small straight, and slow down for the U-turn. Gas
through the second half of the turn. Gas through the small straight and slow
down after the small bend for another U-turn. Gas through the straight, and slow
down a little bit for the small turn, and then just gas through the next turn.
Gas down this straight, and about 3 quarters down it, brake for the U-turn. Gas
down this long straight, and slow down a bit at the last turn just to not end up
on the grass. Then just gas it to the finish line.
[TT.009D]
Fuji Speedway 2005
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Hard
Length: 2.84 miles
Elevation Change: 121.4 feet
Notes: Exactly the same as Fuji Speedway 90's, the only difference being a small
"thumb" that sticks out of the last straight before the last turn. Just slow
down before the turn, go a medium speed halfway into the U-turn, gas it from
there, and then slow down a bit to go into the last straight before the last
turn.
[TT.009E]
Fuji Speedway 90's
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Medium
Length: 2.73 miles
Elevation Change: 125.0 feet
Notes: Exactly the same as Fuji Speedway 80's, the only difference being a small
half-circle turn after the uphill right turn, and the second turn in the track
is a bit sharper than normal. Just slow down enough to take this turn, and then
halfway to three quarters of the turn, gas it and start turning right into the
last upcoming turn. Then just follow the rest of the strategy from Fuji Speedway
80's.
[TT.009F]
Fuji Speedway 80's
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 2.68 miles
Elevation Change: 125.0 feet
Notes: Gas down the straight until about halfway or three quarters from the
finish line down this section, where you will make a tight right turn. Gas it
until the next left turn, followed by a small straight that curves around into
the next turn. Slow down and go up this right turning hill, then slow down
some more for the S-turn. After exiting, gas down until the last turn, or if
you're going too close to the grass, and then just gas it out of the turn to
the finish line.
[TT.009G]
Twin Ring Motegi - West Short Course
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 0.93 miles
Elevation Change: 10.2 feet
Notes: Gas down the straight and brake for the first turn. Gas through the
second turn with a little brake in between, and then gas it down the straight.
Brake a lot for the next turn, and then just tap the brakes for the last turn.
Then just gas it to the finish line.
[TT.009H]
Twin Ring Motegi - East Short Course
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Medium
Length: 2.13 miles
Elevation Change: 99.7 feet
Notes: Gas a little bit for this small straight, and then slow down for the
two tight, consecutive 90 degree right turns. Gas down the straight, and slow
down about halfway down the hill for the tight turn. Following this turn will be
a series of small bends, where you just slow down for the entrance, and gas
through the exit. After going through these bends, gas down the straight, and
slow down about three quarters into the straight for the V-turn. Gas a bit, and
then slow down at the next bend, and then gas it again. The straight will be
followed by a S-turn, which you should take at a medium speed. Then gas through
the small straight, and slow down for the last turn, a V-turn. Then just gas it
to the finish line.
[TT.009I]
Twin Ring Motegi - Road Course
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Hard
Length: 2.98 miles
Elevation Change: 99.7 feet
Notes: This track is an almost exact combination of the East and West courses,
the only modification to them are two easy turns that connect the two courses.
[TT.009J]
Twin Ring Motegi - Super Speedway
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 1.50 miles
Elevation Change: 9.8 feet
Notes: Gas through the straight into the turn. Tap the brakes every now and
then, and you should end up on the outside on the exit. Gas through the straight
and stay on the outside for the second turn. Tap the brakes lightly every now
and then, and then you'll end up on the outside on the exit again. The just gas
it through the rest of the straight to the finish line.
[TT.009K]
Suzuka Circuit East Course
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 1.39 miles
Elevation Change: 110.2 feet
Notes: Gas it down this straight. Slow down a bit for the small bend, and then a
bit more for the U-turn. Gas through the small straight, and brake a bit on the
next bend for the bend that follows it, and then gas out of it. Repeat this
two more times, and then slow down on the last one a bit for the large U-turn.
Gas out of the exit, and just gas it to the finish line.
[TT.009L]
Suzuka Circuit West Course
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Medium
Length: 2.16 miles
Elevation Change: 46.6 feet
Notes: Gas down this pretty long straight, and don't slow down until about
halfway into the bend with sand on both sides for a very sharp right turn,
followed by an almost equally sharp turn. Gas down this small straight with a
small bend in it, and a little bit after the bend, slow down for the tight
right turn. Gas down this short straight and the small bend in it. After the
bend, slow down for the very tight U-turn. Gas out of the exit, and keep it
going until a little after the road starts going right again. At this point,
brake going into the turn, gas, and then brake again about halfway into it to
not go into the sand. Then just gas down the straight to the finish line.
[TT.009M]
Suzuka Circuit
Region: Japan
Difficulty: Hard
Length: 3.62 miles
Elevation Change: 131.2 feet
Notes: This track is an almost exact combination of the East and West courses,
the only modification to them are two very light and easy turns that connect
them together at different ends.
[TT.009N]
The Ricardo Tormo Circuit of Valencia
Region: Spain
Difficulty: Hard
Length: 2.49 miles
Elevation Change: 65.6 feet
Notes: Gas down the first straight, and slow down near the end for the first
left turn. Gas it through the exit for the straight. Slow down for the tight
V-turn, then gas through the next turn, and slow down again for the wider
V-turn. Speed up a bit for the next 90 degree turn, then a bit more on the
straight. Slow down for the next 90 degree turn, and speed up again for the next
straight. Gas through the light bend, and slow down a bit for the small U-turn.
Slow down for the small S-turn, followed by another U-turn. Speed through the
straight, slow down a bit at the bend, and then gas through about halfway
through the curved road for the sharp blind corner. Gas out of the corner almost
straight into the fininsh line.
[TT.009O]
Nürburgring Nordschleife
Region: Germany
Difficulty: Hard
Length: 12.94 miles
Elevation Change: 984.2
Notes: Almost immediatley theres is a small zig-zag turn, so you must slow down
after start. Go down this long straight, and slow down a bit at the bend to not
go onto the grass. Speed up again, and slow down for what leads to a sharp
V-turn. Gas out of the exit, and go down the straight until the near-90 degree
turn. Slow down here, and don't go too fast in this section because of the sharp
turns. This section consists of many relatively small turns with some small
straights in between them. Then speed through the small straight that leads to
another turn, which leads to another straight. Slow down at the V-turn, and gas
out of it. Slow down a bit at the next bend, and then just gas it until the next
large bend. Then slow down for the next turn, and speed up at the small
straight. Slow down for the very tight U-turn here, along with the "Hammerhead",
which can be an easy place to fall off your bike or go onto the grass and into
the wall. Speed out of it for a long U-turn that leads to a near-90 degree
turn. Speed down this straight and through the bend until the somewhat sharper
bend that leads to a U-turn made up of two turns, with the first one being
sharper than the second. Speed out of the exit, and slow down at the next bend.
Speed through this curvy straight, tapping the brakes from time to time. Slow
down at the turn leading to the U-turn, and then slow down at the two turns that
make up the U-turn, with the second one being another "Hammerhead". Speed out
of the exit, and then slow down a bit for the long turn that follows it. After
that turn, it's just smooth sailing to the finish line, where you might have to
tap the brakes a few times with some small bends in the road.
[TT.009P]
El Capitan
Region: USA
Difficulty: Medium
Length: 2.97 miles
Elevation Change: 206.7 feet
Notes: Gas it down this medium-length striaght, past the bend. Slow down a bit
beofre the turn, and the speed up through the straight with a very small bend.
Slow down right at the entrance to the small U-type turn, and gas out of it.
Then slow down again entering the wide V-turn, and then speed up, and then slow
down just a little bit at the bend. Speed up and slow down at the next U-turn,
and keep a slow speed for the V-turn that follows. Speed through the bend, slow
down a bit at the long S-turn, and then slow down again at the bend. Speed up
tuni lthe bend before the U-turn, and then gas out of it. Then just speed past
the bend after the U-turn to the finish line.

gas until the turn gets sharp. A little bit before that, slow down some more.
After this U-turn, there will be a tight S-turn, followed by a sharp corner,
both of which need to be taken slowly. Speed through this small straight, and
slow down a bit for these small bends in the straight. Then slow down a bit
entering the U-turn, and just gas through the second half of it to end up on the
outside of the turn. The just gas it to the finish line.

front of you. Take this turn, along with the next turn, at a low speed. Gas
through the straight, along with the bend. Slow down a bit for the turn that
leads to the tunnel, speed up a bit, and then don't brake until you are at the
U-turn. Speed through the small straight, and slow down after the bend for a
tight U-turn. Speed up a bit at the straight, and don't speed up until about
halfway through the S-turn that follows. Then just keep going until the finish
line.

through this light, large turn. After the sharp turn, slow down for the entrance
and speed up for the exit of these small bends in the road. Then speed up for
the large U-turn, where you will tap the brakes about halfway, and continue
speeding up. Gas down the straight until about three quarters of the way down,
where you'll brake for the V-turn. Gas through this long S-turn, and then slow
down for the small curve at the end of the straight following it. Slow down
again for the small portion that juts out of the road, and then gas it for the
small straight. Slow down a bit at the last turn, and then just gas it until
the finish line on the straight.

while turning right into the turn as much as you can, gas a bit, and then turn
again. Gas through the next couple of turns which will be relatively small and
easy to turn through. Not long after, you will enter a section of narrow turns,
so slow down, and even more around the end with sharp turns. You can do the S-
turn at a relatively high speed, but slow down for the hairpin that follows.
There are some small turns that follow, and then a sharp turn before the
straight that leads to the finish line.

the hill. Brake a little bit for the turn at the top, and then slow down for the
series of turns that follows. Gas it in the tunnel until the sharp S-turns,
where you will slow down until the next straight, where you will gas, until the
next series of turns, where you will go an average speed. Slow down at the next
sharp turn, and stay on the right side. Go through the left turn normally and
brake a lot at the hairpin. Gas it until the last turn, where you just slow
down a little bit, and then gas to the finish line.
General Note: All of the tracks in Tourist Trophy are exact replicas of the
ones found in Gran Turismo 4, with the only new track being the The Ricardo
Tormo Circuit of Valencia. Due to this new track, and some tracks just not
going well with the whole motorcycle idea, many of the tracks in Gran Turismo
4 were left out. So if you need additional help with the tracks, you can just
consult the Gran Turismo 4 guides. I will, however, still do my best to try and
explain each course to you.

Here I will explain in short both the rider and bike settings, telling you the
difference of tuning one way or the other, and a basic reccomendation.
[TT.010A]
Rider Form
Head:
Head Roll Angle - Head rolling. High setting makes head straight, low
setting makes head roll towards turn. Keep this setting low (0).
Head Pitch Angle - Adjust head pitch. High setting makes head tilt down, low
setting makes head tilt up. Keep this setting default (7.0).
Torso:
Lateral Slide - Lateral hip movement during turn. High setting makes
hip move towards turn, low setting makes hip move toward bike. Keep this setting
high (25), since falling off during a turn is not likely to happen as it already
should be.
Vertical Slide - Tucking during turn. High setting makes rider tuck, low
setting makes rider sit normally. Keep this setting low (3), because you
shouldn't be trying to accelerate on turns, and instead, actually turn.
Body Lean (Full Bank) - Rider's lean during turn. High setting makes rider lean
out of turn, low setting makes rider lean into turn. Keep this setting high
(25), because you don't want to lose too much speed on a turn.
Torso Roll Angle - Torso rolling. High setting makes rider upright, low setting
makes rider roll towards turn. Keep this setting low (8) to come out of a
turn easily.
Torso Yaw Angle - Torso yaw. High setting makes rider twist to line up with
handlebars, low setting makes rider twist to turn. Keep this setting low (25)
to increase response.
Position:
Arm Angle - Arm angles. High setting makes arms go out, low setting makes arms
go in. Keep this setting low (45) for better speed.
Seat Position - Rider's position on seat. High setting makes rider sit to the
back and tucked, low setting makes rider sit to the front and upright. Keep
this setting deafult (0.8).
Leg Angle - Leg angles. High setting makes legs go out, low setting makes legs
go in. Keep this medium (50) to have good cornering and speed at the same time.
Body Lean (Upright) - Rider's leaning not on turns. High setting increases
leaning, low setting decreases leaning. Keep this setting maxed out (25) to
increase speed.
[TT.010B]
Bike Settings
Suspension:
Spring Rate - High makes for bumpy low speeds and taking large bumps easily, low
makes for smooth riding and reduced speed. Keep this default (5) or lower (4).
Preload - High makes for higher bike and bank rate, low makes for lower bike
and bank rate. Keep this default (5) or higher (6) for better turning.
Damping Force (Rebound) - High restricts spring movement for traction, low
allows spring movement for better riding on small bumps. Keep this default (5).
Damping Force (Bound) - Same as above.
Brakes:
Brake Balance - Higher makes stronger brakes, lower makes weaker brakes. Keep
this default for both wheels (5).
Tires:
Standard - all-purpose tires for street bikes
Performance - sport/race tires for street bikes
Racing - Only tires for race bikes
Exhaust:
Normal - Good for low RPM on street bikes
Sports - Good for high RPM on street bikes
Racing - Only exhaust for race bikes, good for high RPM
Drivetrain:
Gear Ration - High for acceleration, low for top speed.

Here I will explain in short the other modes in the game, and some general tips
or help with them.
[TT.011A]
Arcade Mode
Main Menu:
1-on-1 mode - As the name suggests, you race against a computer opponent 1-on-1
using street bikes
Race mode - You race against three other computers, and you use racing bikes
Time Trial mode - You go around the track on the bike of your choice, trying
to get the best lap time. You can activate a "ghost", so you
can see how well you are doing on the current lap versus your
previous lap, and essentially, race against yourself. The
amount of laps is infinite, so the only way out is pressing
START and select "EXIT".
2 Player Battle - You play against your friend via split-screen. If the "Width
Setting" is "Normal", then the split will be horizontal. If
"Wide", then the split will be vertical.
When playing any mode in Arcade Mode, you first choose the course, then the
bike (and if possible, paint), then your rider (makes no difference), then
your transmission (auto or manual), and finally, your riding style.

Here I will point out some hints and tips on how to make you beating this game
somewhat easier.
1. Licenses first
I shouldn't even list this, because EVERYBODY should always do this. No matter
if you're really good at racing or not, finish all the licenses (preferrably in
Gold). Even if you don't learn anything, at least you'll have some good
experience towards the game, and maybe 4 more bikes and some extra riding gear.
2. Challenge Series second
Same as above. Another reason you should do this is because many races have
specific requirements, and instead of picking the bike you THINK is best, you
will know (by racing for them) which bike is actually the one you'd want to use
for that race.
3. Don't prioritize on shortcuts
Unless you're a real expert on this game, try not to take shortcuts. Although
you might move your position up, you'll probably have to brake earlier at the
next turn, messing up your strategy and rythym, and maybe even losing a
position. There are however, some very good shortcuts in many races that
should next to never be given up. Keep in mind, however, that you can only go
off the asphalt in races (although some will still restrict/penalize for doing
so), so only skill will save you in the licenses and challenge series.
4. Play with the settings
If your bike doesn't handle or accelerate or brake or whatever you'd like it
to, then try changing the settings. Always change in small increments, and try
to return the settings to default if you give up testing and haven't found good
settings. Although many bikes do well on the ride setting I listed (with credit
to the creator, aj_the_one), some bikes simply can't be used well with it, and
therefore, you must make a custom setting for the bike.
5. Leave the tricks to practice and arcade mode
You might think that because you're very ahead of the competition, you can start
doing some endos and wheelies, right? WRONG! Your position in the lead can
change at any second, because the AI learns from both their own and your
mistakes. Taking that wheelie too fast could lead to wipeouts, wipeouts lead
to wasted time, and wasted time leads to the computers catching up.
6. Don't jump into tough races or try winning very good bikes at the beginning
You might think that you should start by doing the hardest races to get the
best bikes. Although that is true, think about it logically; isn't it better to
work your way up to better bikes by unlocking slower bikes and learning to
control bikes in general better? And besides, most of the harder races require
bikes that are only gotten through the easier races.
7. Brake before every turn
Unless you have a bike that handles exceptionally well, you should brake, at
least minimally before every turn. If you go too fast into a turn, you'll end
up off the road, losing traction and speed. Otherwise, you'll brake a helluva
lot in the middle of the turn, and then will have to accelerate on a turn, which
could lose you some precious time. But also be careful to not brake too much,
because some bikes have good acceleration that could still ruin how you turn.
After racing the specific track a couple laps around, you'll used to the bike
and the track, and will know when to brake.

Here I will thank everybody who has helped me in the making of this FAQ:
-Han_the_Dragon, for doing the complete bike list for me
-aj_the_one, for the great rider form settings for this game
-Funtastik, for helping me complete the rider gear list
-The ASCII Generator at
http://www.network-science.de/ascii/ which helped me
with all the ASCII titles in this FAQ
-GameFAQs, for the FAQ Bounty on this game, and for letting me contribute
-The very nice person at GameFAQs (I'm guessing CJayC) that read my feedback
ticket and allowed an extension of the FAQ Bounty from the lack of time that
I had when writing the walkthrough
-Polyphony Digital, for creating yet another masterpiece of a game
If you were expecting the actual game credits, then just go to the main menu
and scroll all the way down to view them. I dunno why you'd want to view them,
but that's your business, isn't it?...
