1) What is TXRD2?: |
-----------------------------------------------------

Tokyo Xtreme Racer DRIFT 2 is a mountain racing game focused on Japanese
sports cars. TXRD players highly anticipated it's release, but few others
did. Despite it's amazing gameplay, it recieved poor reviews and even
wikipedia says that it is mediocre. But true TXRD2 fans obliged, creating
debates that proved how good TXRD2 really was.

2) Gameplay modes: |
-----------------------------------------------------

CA Battle- CA, or Corner Artist Battles focus on drifting through the mountain
pass. Normally, time is not a factor in drifting, but TXRD2 added time limits
that can have no effect or can force you to the limit, balancing speed,
angle, and line into a perfect combination.

TA Battle- TA, or Time Attack Battles are runs against the clock. They show
how truly talented you are at going fast. These races may or may not have
ghosts which can add pressure to the match.

SP Battle- SP, or Spirit Point Battles are the basic racing mode of the night.
In these, you race until one player crosses the finish line or the other runs
out of 'Spirit' and loses instasntly. If you lose alot of SP in a race
against a team member that isn't the leader, you will have reduced SP for the
next race.

FL and LF Battles- FL/LF, or First-and-Last/Last-and-First Battles are a new
addition to the DRIFT series. In these, one car starts directly in front of
the other. If the lead car pulls 200m ahead, the race is over. Likewise, if
the rear car pulls 100m ahead, that also ends the race. If neither of those
happen, the car that finishes first wins. These races are employed mostly for
Slasher battles and tougher opponents.

TAC Battles- TAC, or Time Attack Collision Battles are identical to TA Battles
with an added feature: you now have SP to defend. If you hit the walls, you
lose SP and, as always, you lose. These are one of the two more uncommon
races.

CAT Battles- CAT, or Corner Artist Target Battles are the essence of evil. In
these extremely rare battles you must get a specific amount of CA Points each
corner or you fail. These are pretty much reserved for Sponsor Tests.

3) Starting the Game: |
-----------------------------------------------------

At the start, you get to choose a car to your liking. There aren't many
choices, but the range widens if you use a Cheat Name such as "DRIFT". Some
of the best cars are the Mazda6 (used) and the Mazda Roadster (New, 1900000CP).
Other good ones are the 86 Levin and maybe a used Silvia.
Remember that your start car can last as long as you want it to, so pick one
that you like. Money is easy to come by so you can pick something better
later.

The best way to start is to do the two sponsor tests and apply their stickers
to the windows of your car. Then you should do as many category races as
possibly, hopefully clearing all of the basic races on Hakone and Hiroshima.
If you can, try to beat all of the Gymkhana challenges since they provide easy
money.

Night races should be a blast after a long day of category races. Have fun on
these and try to run clean. Develop good habits early and keep them as long as
you can.

New Game PLUS is the same as a new game, except you get to keep ALL your cars
AND start out with 200,000,000cr, as well as having the Kaido Theater already
unlocked.

6) Rally Driving: |
-----------------------------------------------------

Off road and rally driving are a huge part of TXRD2. Since many courses are
under construction quite often, having a car that can cope with dirt is a
good thing.

Most courses have short dirt sections in them. These sections are 'Under
Construction' and are always the same ever night. They are also re-paved
every day.

Hokkaido is another matter altogether. The entire course is unpaved except for
the switch- backs and the checkpoints.

Every corner counts in rallying since you don't accelerate as much in the
straights. The key to winning is staying in control. The best way to start is
picking up an Evo 8 MR or a late model Impreza. These cars are the best on
dirt since they are also rally cars in real life.

Tire choice can be important in Rally Racing because, again, control is
important. The Sports Tires are the best on dirt. Racing tires are the worst.
Either spike or wet tires should also work nicely.

Power is less important in rallying because you don't need much speed in the
straights. Focus more on suspension to find a setup the suits you.

long. They are usually very twisty and present a huge driving challenge.

8) Critical Engine Tune: |
-----------------------------------------------------

The only way to get the most power out of your car is to get a critical tune.
This involves getting the proper combination of parts. Having one correct part
shows no info. Having two gives an icon that says 'Moderate'. Having all three
changes that icon to 'Critical'.

Normal: These are the standard rivals that you face during Conquest mode. They
wager small to medium amounts of CP and rarely (if ever) wager parts.

Supporter: Supporters are your fans. They wager different amounts of CP and
also parts. These are also very common.

Hi Gambler: Hi Gamblers wager parts, lots of money, and even cars. They are
quite common on most courses.

Slasher: The Slashers are the leaders of the courses. If you beat the Slasher,
you unlock the next level. Both Miracles Summit and Absolute Emperor are
listed as ??? but are the Slashers for their respective Level 4 Courses.

Thirteen Devils: The Thirteen Devils are a Tokyo team trying to conquer Kaido.
They appear as ??? in the PA.

Kingdom Twelve: The Kingdom Twelve are trying to protect Kaido from the
Thirteen Devils. It is, however, unclear what their final intentions are...

Twenty Masters: The Twenty Masters are novelty racers that appear each night.
There are many of them (much more than twenty, possibly as much as 500) and
they all wager large amounts of CP or parts.

Sponsor: Sponsors sometimes appear in the Day PAs. If you go to them, the
appear in the Sponsor area of the Conquest menu.

Other ???: These are racers who challenge you infrequently such as Hideyuki
Sakai. There are moderately uncommon.

Medalists: These racers give you prizes that can unlock more races. They wager
medium amounts of CP and rarely parts.

In all cases, winning races means getting fans.

11) Dolls: |

Many racers only appear in certain weather conditions. It can be quite a pain
to try and wait until the proper weather and date show up, so you can purchase
dolls.

Dolls can be bought at night in the Mysterious Shop. They range in price from
3,000,000CP (stormy doll) to 10,000,000CP (sunny doll). They can be activated
at any time and can be re-used as necessary.

It is a good idea to buy all of the dolls so you can activate them at any
time. The activation affects the next weather cycle. This means that if you
want to do a Category Race in the rain and then another one in dry, you need
to wait until the next day.

Dolls play a very important roll in the later part of the game.

By meeting certain conditions when you race a rival (win 3 times, outrun them,
lose the race, dirve clean, etc.) they may become your friend. Friends are
relatively unimportant and are only useful for 1-2 races in Coquest Mode.

Friends will lend you their cars, but you cannot modify them in any way. Most
friend cars, however, are very low level and can be easily beaten.

Friends make up a neat addition to TXRD2.
