-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Introduction*
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Th KOF(King Of Fighters series has certainly come a long way since
KOF 1994. For those who don't know, KOF is a very popular fighting
game famous for its huge rosters and cool characters.
The roster itself is a gathering of popular SNK Fighters.
Enough about the game, this FAQ is to provide information and ways
of unlocking secrets. Enough of my thrash talking cos' ON TO THE FAQ!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Game Modes*
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
**************
*A. Team Play*
**************
This is the four-on-four slugfest with the cpu(One has to be the striker).
You get to uncover the storyline within this mode.
Unfortunately dialouges are in japanese so.......anyone with a
transalation FAQ???
*************
*B. Team Vs.*
*************
Same as above except this time you fight with player 2. Its also a great way
to settle feuds with your friends or family!
****************
*C. Single Play*
****************
Similar to Team Play except you fight Street Fighter style with the cpu.
Simple One on One fighting based on the round system.
***************
*D. Single Vs.*
***************
Same as above only you fight with Player 2. Quick, easy and fun. Great
for 5-Minute Fighting!
***************
*E. Party Mode*
***************
Survival Mode with a twist. Everytime you hit an opponent, you get a sliver of
health. Once the timer runs out, every second counts towards your demise
as your health goes down. Before you enter this mode, a message will
appear. The first numbers you see are the numbers you'll have to beat
to get the next set of hidden striker/s.
******************
*F. Practice Mode*
******************
The basic fighting practice area where you hone your moves on a dummy.
The things that you want the dummy to do can be set via practice options.
The practice mode in KOF 2000 has too many options to list here, so anybody
wh did, please e-mail me!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*How To Play*
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*************
*A. Controls*
*************
The simple controls are something unique compared to MvC2 or other fighting
games.Here they are:
Square-Weak Punch Triangle-Strong punch
X-Weak Kick Circle- Strong Kick
R1-Striker L1-Taunt/Provocation
Note:The default configuration can be tweaked at the options menu.
*****************
*B. Useful Moves*
*****************
Throwing-(Get in front of your opponent and ->+triangle/Circle)
---------------------------------------------------------------
Throwing is a great way to get your opponent to the other side of the stage
and even doing cheap damage to them. Be careful when throwing cos' you
have to get real close to your opponent. The best time
to land a throw is when your opponent is letting loose with fireball.
Dodge the projectile, jump over your opponent and throw like you've never
thrown before!
Taunting/Provocation-(L1)
-------------------------
Some people think it's a useless manuevere but it is useful in many ways.
1-Imagine this, you're low on life, your friend has half his health
down, you taunt him. "Ora Ora!", says your Joe.
Your friend rushes in for the kill expectedly.
You jump over his Power Wave thus landing in front of his Terry.
"SCREW UPPAH!!" You let loose your lv.3 MaX Super Desperation move.
Bye Terry!Cheap I know, but c'mon, you won baby!
2-Picture this, you're winning the match extraordinaly. You
want to humiliate your foe in front of everybody.....
You taunt, he hits you, you taunt , you SDM him!
NOTE: This scenario has many endings, this is just one of the
cheesy scenarios.
3-A taunt also gives you one striker usage!(If you have one
power bar it will use the bar in exchange for a
a striker point. Noting will happen if you taunt without a full power
bar.)
Striker-(R1)
------------
The striker is basically your assistant. The striker will come out
when summoned to perform his/her special attack. The effects range from
healing to stalling the opponent. This can be very useful in sticky
situations where every move is critical. The bar is at the bottom of
the screen. One taunt equals to one striker 'point'. It has a max of
5 'points'. If you're at the second character, you get to hold
4 striker points. At the third, 5 points can be attained by taunting.
Counter Mode-(WP+WK+SP)(Needs MAX power bar)
--------------------------------------------
The minute you enter your character into this mode, your character
does a pose that knocks back your opponent. This does no damage
though. Your character will flash red and your attack power increases.
You are now able to super cancel moves into DMs. However, i don't know
how. Anybody with more info pls. email me.
Armor Mode-(WK+SP+SK0(Needs MAX Power bar)
-----------------------------------------
This mode is something like being a Mobile Armor in Gundam
Battle Assault 2. Same pose as in Counter Mode after you
start this mode. Your attack power increases and you can't be countered.
If you get hit while doing a move you will receive the damage but you
will continue doing the move.
Super Desperation Moves & Desperation Moves-(Varies)
----------------------------------------------------
SDMs need a MAX power bar while DMs need one power bar.
These are basically super moves that do a lot of damage.
They were made to be used as a last hope for dying opponents.
some people use it to finish off foes stylishly.
It's all up to you actually....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*General Tips*
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Save your power bar, you never know when you might need it for a
SDM or to use armor/counter mode.
2. Dash(->,->) or jump to get closer to your foe. It's less risky than
walking cause' jumping evades projectiles and dashing is quicker.
3. Don't use projectiles over and over again. It's predictable and
easy to dodge.
4. If you have sore fingers from playing, use a glove.
5. If your heart is pounding, you're losing a BIG battle, pause or try
to stall things and take a deep breath. Make a strategy and get back
in the fight.
6. Don't play for too long. Your frustration level may increase easily
when your brain is tired.
7. Heres a good tip...BUY THIS GAME if you don't have it :P.
8. For those allergic to disorienting flashes on-screen, turn it off at
the options menu.
9. For a fresh mood change, switch the music mode to original.
10. If you're bored, play this game with some friends. You'ed
be surprised how fun KOF can be with friends.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*B. Memory Mode*
****************
In Memory Mode, cinematics of older games are unlocked if you
meet certain requirements. Here is the list-
(Credits to luna_ for contributing at codes & secrets
& Yamikarasu for posting it a the board,I'm not sure who's first).
KOF '94 - Have at least 10 hours of Play Time.
KOF '95 - Perform a 30-hit Combo in Practice Mode.
KOF '96 - In Practice Mode, with Life Recover for the enemy set to Quick,
try to reduce his health to zero.
KOF '97 - Get into the Rankings with at least 300 points in Team Play.
KOF '98 - Get into the Rankings with at least 200 points in Single Play.
KOF '99 - Finish the game with difficulty set to 8(Expert).
(List credited to Yamikarasu)
??????????????
?How To Do It?
??????????????
KOF '94 - Just play with autosave ON and the time will slowly accumalate.
KOF '95 - Select Choi, because his Max Desperation Move (Houou-Kyaku) does 28Hits.
If I am not wrong, just do a Standing C -> Fwd+B -> Houou-Kyaku
(or any 2-hit combo that cancels into the Houou-Kyaku).
(Credits to Yamikarasu/his brother)
- I did it by using Hinako's striker move and Choi's SDM(Houou-Kyaku) .
- lykiat says:
Theres another way to do it too. I used Kim and Joe as the striker,
I managed to do like 80+ hits with it. Well this might be a
little hard but its real fun when you manage to do it.
First up, jump with a A, then do a standing C, then do the
move where Kim steps down, then do a Super right away.
When he is done, wait for like 1 second
(about where Kim will reach the ground)
then call Joe then do the other super where Kim kicks his
opponent up and then do the super again and repeat.
I like this move, looks cool, sorta like an infinity combo.
Googler's way is:
Use an infinite combo to get the opponent to zero health.
Use Takuma with Ryo striker. Due BACK, FORWARD, BACK +punch with the opponent
in the corner call striker and just repeat.
KOF '96 - There is an easy way with Lin do his SDM the one with poison
(down+down+down SpLp) and wait till the health is down then do and DM or
SDM and u have it . (thanks & Credits to getReal)
KOF '97 - This may sound hard but with the difficulty set to 8, points
like that can easily be acheived. If you beat it with
difficulty set to 8, you also get KOF '99. :)
KOF '98 - Look Above.
KOF '99 - It may be difficult but you can use as many continues
as you want! It's just a matter of time so I
suggest to those who are having trouble, to use the
continue service.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Strikers*
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
********************
*What Are Strikers?*
********************
The Striker system was introduced in KOF 99' and shocked KOF fans with
the new concept. Strikers were the fourth member in the team and
were summoned to interrupt the match. While interrupting, every striker
did a different attack giving offensive or defensive support to its' team.
**********************
*Strikers In KOF 2000*
**********************
Now, in KOF 2000, the strikers are now 'active' and
are able to be called on anytime and anywhere. The exception is when
you're in the middle of performing a DM or SDM. There are also more
strikers n KOF 2000. Every character has at least 2 strikers to choose from.
Some have three strikers with the third being a 'manac striker'. The 'Maniac'
term was used in the arcade version because a code was needed to acess them.
