Tales of Symphonia is the 5th main Tales RPG series which was released for the
Nintendo Gamecube on August 29 2003. The game was later translated in English
on July 13 2004, but Namco earlier announced that it will also be released for
the Playstation 2. In this version, more features were added in exchange for
average loading times just like the PSX days. This FAQ was made to explain how
to use all 9 characters respectively.

The main heroine and Lloyd's childhood friend. Due to her family lineage,
Collet is the chosen one who will regenerate the world, Sylvarant. A klutz in
almost anything, she tries her best to play the role as the Chosen with some
help from her friends, mostly Lloyd.

target, she too bears the fate of her own world.

Zelos is the mega-playboy who has the charm that can make women (except for

Tethe Alla.
To replace her ill-stricken father, Presea works as a lumberjack to help
support her family. The Exsphere she wears, while enabling her to wield the
heavy axe, has a side-effect that makes her emotionless. She joins the party
to hitch a ride with them to her hometown, Ozette.

ii) Skills/Spells
*****************
In Tales of Symphonia, Namco created a new skill system where the player gets
to choose which type of skills they want for their charaters. There are two
new features:
1) Skill Tree
2) Skill Type
The Skill Tree is similar to a regular table chart. With this feature, you
have to use the Tokugi(Basic) skill and LVL up at the same time to get new
skills. Once the requirements are met, you have to choose the Skill Type for
the new skill.
There are two Skill Types: Technical(T) and Strike(S).
Technical is more on hitting multiple enemies but does less damage while Strike
focus more on power but only hits one or two enemies. Although both Types are
almost the same, it comes down to personal preference when choosing which types
suits best for the characters.
To learn new skills from either T or S types, your Skill Gauge must be on one
of the two sides in the T/S Gauge. To manipulate the gauge, you must equip
EX-Skills which has two types(T-Type & S-Type). For example: To make Lloyd's
skill gauge to be on T-Line, equip T-Type EX-Skills and fight a few battles
until the gauge is full.
All the characters have a barrier skill which lowers damage for any attacks
including spells. To activate it, press Down + Square. You can also equip the
barrier skill which is not advisable.

iii) Unison Attack
******************
Unison Attack is a new feature which lets your team perform a skill that is
equipped in their respective skill slots, combining them to create a new skill.
To perform a unison attack, you have to fill up the Unison gauge located at the
bottom left of the screen during battle by attacking the enemy. The combined
skill will be used right after the Unison Attack.
You can only use one Unison Attack. If you use a skill that can be linked to
two different skills/spells, You will activate the one that initiated the
second requirement.
For example, I use Lloyd's Koga Hazan first during the Unison Attack, followed
by Lightning and Piko Han. Lightning can link to either Lloyd's or Collet's
skill, but it will combine with Piko Han to actiavte Mjolnir, not Shuusou
Raizan.
Unison Attacks can cancel Enemy attacks such as Chuukyuu/Joukyuu Spells
and Hiougis and also their Overlimit Mode. To cancel enemy attacks, you must
activate the Unison Attack right after the enemy use its attacks.

erases almost all the disadvantages, you can defeat almost anyone.

i) EX-Skills

EX-Skills help increase a character's stats(HP, Attack, Defense, etc) or
give a character more features such as Guard Status which prevents a character
from having any status effects or Concentrate which enables a character to cast
a spell even if the enemy interrupts them.
Here's a list of some Normal and Compound EX-Skills for each character. I will
only list the ones that helps the character increase it's flexibility in battle
and decrease their weakness.

-This gives 100% success for Collet's Item Steal or Rover Item. A must use to
complete the Monster Zukan.

Each character has their own styles of playing and have strong/weak points.
For example, Lloyd is considered the best character on offense, but lacks
recovery when using skills.
Before continuing, here's a small command list for certain moves:

-Use the Spin Attack as the last normal attack to do 2 hits.
-Lloyd can do 5 normal attacks using Forward+Circle->Down+Circle->Circle

-If the enemy is blocking, use Majin Ken, Majin Ken-Souga or Majin Renga Zan to
decrease the recovery time after attacking.
-Mouko Gouha Zan's Knockdown effect does not work on large/heavy enemies.
-Using Hiten Shouku or Houo Tenkuu with the Sky Cancel EX-Skill will cancel the
animation where Lloyd jumps back before executing the skill.
-Using any Ougi skill after Aki Sazame will cancel the last hit for that skill.
-"Sky Cancelled" skills can be excecuted after an Air Recovery.
-The Canceller EX-Skill will enable Lloyd to use two Tokugi skills instead of

iii) Spell Avoiding
*******************
It is possible to avoid enemy spells without using the Barrier Skill which uses
10% of a character's Max TP. There are four ways to avoid spells which is:
1) Running
2) Back Stepping
3) Jumping
4) Element Voiding/Adsorbing
Although it seems easy, it takes practice and timing to completely avoid the
enemy's spell for the first three. The fourth one mostly applies to certain
spells which are unavoidable like Tidal Wave. To use the fourth one, you need
to equip armours/accessories that has Element Defense until the character
adsorbs or does not take any damage from that spell.

Lloyd has another way to avoid enemy spells by jumping and using Shinkuu Retsu
Zan/Retsu Zanpuu->Hiten Shouku with the Sky Cancel EX-Skill. With these skill
combos, Lloyd can avoid most of the unavoidable spells except Photon, Dark
Sphere and Meteor Swarm.
There are 2 ways to avoid Time Stop or make yourself invincible:
1)Use Unison Attacks before Time Stop freezes all your characters.
2)Learn a new skill right before Time Stop freezes you.

Just like the previous Tales games, you can create combos by doing a series of
attacks on an enemy. The first attack must connect to initiate a combo attack.
To create a skill combo, you need to link at least two or three skills at a
time by following the Skill Level Rule.
The Skill Level Rule only lets a character link from one skill to another which
is more advance. For example, Tokugi skills can link to Higi and Ougi skills
while Ougi skills cannot link to any other skill. This rule only applies to
Lloyd, Collet, Kratos, Zelos, Shihna and Presea.
Here's how to link skills via the Skill Level Rule:

EX-Skills such as Lloyd's Canceller and Kratos/Zelos' Turnless EX-Skills breaks
the Skill Level Rule.

You cannot link a Higi skill which is from the same Skill Tree as the Tokugi
skill. In this case, I cannot link Majin Ken with Majin Ken-Souga or Gou-Majin
Ken. You can however link the Ougi skill from the same Skill Tree as the Tokugi
skill. This means I can link Majin Ken with Majin Renga Zan or Makou Jin.
Regal uses a different type of rule when linking skills. He can only to link
skills which are from 4 different categories.
The 4 categories are:
Chijou - Ground
Taikuu - Anti-Air
Kuuchuu - Mid Air
Tokushu - Special
Kuuchuu skills can only be used while Regal is in mid-air. The only Tokushu
skill, Hatsu, cannot link to any skill after using it.
With this rule, Regal can do the following:
It is possible to activate an Unison Attack after a skill combo as long as the
character you are using is on the ground and the Unison Attack connects on to
the enemy.
Linking Hiougi skills are also possible as long as the character has a
Knockdown skill(eg:Shishi Senkou). Regal is an exception because Hatsu will
become Garen Zesshuu Geki after using three different skill during Overlimit.
I will only list a few basic and advance combos for all the characters. Some of
the skill combos listed either requires the enemy to be near a corner or does
not work on certain enemies due to their size. As long as you apply the Skill
Level Rule, you can create more than 100 skill combos for each character.

At the start of the battle, jump and use Hiten Shouku to go behind the boss.
Once you're behind, use this normal attack(Foward + Circle, Circle, Circle)
followed by Majin Renga Zan. Repeat this attack eventhough the boss is blocking
because the skill will break it's guard. Do not exceed more than 50 hits or
else the boss will faint and will get invincibility when it gets up. Make sure
to off all the skills except Souryuu Renga Dan and Hatsu for Regal.

Before taking the boat to Parumacosta in Izoold. Play the Emoball(Emotional
Balloon) minigame and choose hard mode. Win 4 times to get 20 Lemon Gummies.

Obtaining the Technical/Strike Rings before going to Parumacosta
----------------------------------------------------------------
Before taking the boat to Parumacosta, head north of Izoold and cross the
bridge. Head North-east to Luin but do not enter the town. Head Northwest from
Luin to find a treasure chest(Technical Ring). Cross the bridge up north and
walk to the stone to activate Long Mode. Head east to Balacruf Mausoleum and
look for a treasure chest(Strike Ring) west from the dungeon's location.
By the time you go back to Izoold, your characters will gain a few extra LVLs
and some gald to buy new weapons in Parumacosta.

Rune Bottle Gald Trick
----------------------
Requirements: Item Getter EX-Skill, Lloyd and Regal's Personal EX-Skill,
150000 Gald
Go to Flanoir and buy 20 Talismans with Regal's Personal Skill equipped for
144000 Gald. Then go to Gaorrachia Forest by entering from Ozette or Mizuho.
Go to the Save Point Area and fight the skull monster. If you fight a monster
named Gate Guest, use Item Rover to get a Rune Bottle and some Gald from it.
Go to another area and go back to the save point area again to make the monster
respawn.
Repeat this until you get 20 Rune Bottles and use them on the Talisman to
change them into Blue Talismans. Fight the monsters again to get another
20 Rune Bottles. Head back to Flanoir and sell the Blue Talismans for 440000
Gald. Buy another 20 Talismans, use the Rune Bottles on them and sell the
new Blue Talismans.
Doing this trick, you will get around 750000+ Gald.
150000-144000+440000-144000+440000+Gald stolen by Collet+Gald obtained from
Battles = 750000+ Gald.
If you repeat this trick, you will get around 600000+ Gald.
