5.Tactics and Strategy
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Movement:
I usually turn the acceleration up in the options for control.
I run in short burst. Running from cover to cover. Dropping to my belly and
checking the horizon with the sniper scope to see the enemies reaction.(If they
saw me.)If not I proceed on my belly to get me a little closer. Then take the
shots with my silenced sub machine gun in scope mode head shots preferably.
Since this gun is not that accurate pepper the enemies if you miss the first
shot. You will not be heard even if you use a whole clip. For in between
buildings and structures I run in medium crawl from building corner to building
corner killing any guards I see with sniper mode or just peek and pepper them
with silenced rifle fire.

Leap Frog maneuvers:
You cover your team mates as they rush forward or fall back to establish cover
for you as you rush forward or fall back. Use smoke grenades to add more cover
to your maneuvers.

The ambush:
Find good cover, set claymores along paths nearby and get set. Someone should
be pointed covering your rear the rest of you set up in a semi circle facing
the other way someone throw a couple of flash bangs as far off as you can. Then
wait for the enemy to arrive to investigate the sound. Everyone is on belly and
in sniper mode scanning for bogeys. As they arrive strike quickly and then fall
back along the path.Everyone should pay attention to where the claymores were
set. As they follow you run through a safe channel in claymores. Fall back and
defend if they think they have you on the run they will follow everytime. That
is where the claymores come in.

Teamwork:
It is key to online play.Covering your team mates. Communication and
coordination are going to rule in these games. Taking one for the good of the
team.(You die you take 3 of them with you.)Your team winning is the only thing
that matters. At least drop a grenade or two before you die.

The Scout:
In some situations you will need to proceed with out cover. It is always a good
idea to send one player out first to scout the area. If it is safe he can cover
you as the team moves up in twos. Why one player seals are teams of two well
you send two players to scout you risk having them both killed. Never move the
team all at once, again you risk getting the whole team killed instead of two.

Team dynamics:
You should build a team of diverse player types. You should have at least one
sniper, a heavy machine gun assault player, and 2 utility players. If a certain
team set up is not working make some changes before the next round. Since this
is a team game think of it as trying to make a great baseball line up.

Be patient:
Move slowly and pay attention closely to your surroundings. This game is not
about running in guns blazing it is more like deadly hide and seek.

Covering your team mates:
It is important to cover each others back.If you tell a player to throw a
grenade he will be defenseless as he switches back to his primary weapon his
counterpart needs to cover him during theses moments.

The buddy system:
Assign everyone a buddy. You should pair a sniper with an assault player. So he
has close quarters cover. Heavy machine gun operator with demolitionist so he
can lay down heavy cover fire as the demo guy sets his explosives.Just
experiment with pairings.

Covering the rear:
If you are the last man in a formation you should be checking your six
frequently. Try to learn the backwards run. Running while pointing your rifle
to your rear then rotating around to front while always moving forward with the
formation.

Vary your tactics:
For real SEAL's consistency is key. They are not fighting the same enemy over
and over.So for us varying your tactics is important. If something worked last
round do not assume it will work the next. Be able to adapt and develop
strategy on the fly.

Observe your enemies tactics:
This is the most exploitable weakness of some online players. They use the same
game style or tactic over and over. Learn it, adapt to it, and exploit it.

In Rats Nest or the offices in Frostfire you can shoot out lights to create
cover and set traps in the dark.

As a seal I start a round I find cover I stay hidden for about the 1st minute
of play. Terrorists like to use raiding techniques to over power seals at the
start.(Two man teams moving fast with F-90s.)

If I hide for the 1st minute I always see two run by and follow I for a second
or two in crouch and fire on both from behind.

If the seals lose more than one round I switch to the M63 and rush fast at the
beginning and engage terrorist point blank with real aggression.

If I get a couple of kills I find myself some cover and wait for a raider and
play it safe until the last minute and a half then I move at medium speed from
cover to cover checking my rear after every move.

6.Weapon Tips
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Know your weapons inside and out. You should practice going from throwing a
grenade or flash bang then switching back to your primary weapon and then
switching to grenade again then back to primary. This will save you from being
capped while you are dealing with the menu. You should practice marksmanship
with all the weapons and become good at them. You should also specialize and
master your primary weapon of choice.

When using fully automatic weapons keep in mind that the longer you hold down
on the trigger the less accurate you will be. The reason is simple the recoil
will tend to keep you from hitting your target. Use short bursts you will be
more accurate and waste less ammo.

Keep an eye on your ammo. You have no idea how long a round may last. I think
having to switch to your secondary weapon because you are out of ammo puts you
at a huge disadvantage.

Using dead enemies weapons may come into play in this game. If you pass over a
weapon check it against your weapon for ammo if it has a lot more ammo switch
to that weapon. Again ammo management can give you a distinct advantage.

Make sure when you get a spare moment reload.Reload often this gives you an
advantage you may need.(I look for every advantage I can.Even if it is an extra
5 shots in a clip.)

M-63A:
Those who like that gun(and I do) you should always be in knee crouch as it
gives you better aiming when it is resting on your knee also if you get fired
on it is one button push to lay down which gives you even better control.
Manage your ammo it is way to easy to get carried away and run out.

M4A1 SD:
It is an assault weapon with sniper mode.It has good range, it is fairly
accurate, and is silenced.I find the problem with carrying a sniper rifle is
that in close quarters fire fights you are at a huge disadvantage as the sniper
rifle are not fully automatic. You will get shot quick while you wait to reload
between each shot. At least the M4A1 SD has three fire modes, single fire, semi
auto fire, and fully auto which all 3 can be used in sniper mode.

---
Sniper tips:
If you have a person running do not try to match his speed and take shot.
Instead aim in front of him about 20 feet at chest level wait to take the shot
as he is a half step from dead center of your aiming reticule.

If you do choose to use it find good cover and give a command for your team
mates to deploy to target. Cover them as they take out the enemies. They are
good help but they tend to get in the way if you do not give them commands and
goals.

If you have someone running for cover behind trees fire at the edge of the
cover as he ducks behind it. The idea is to judge where behind cover he will be
by his speed and direction then estimate a impact point and fire.(Takes some
practice but is definitely worth the effort.)

For people running directly at you aim in front of them about 5 feet as there
groin passes through your scopes bullseye take the shot. This should put the
shot dead center in his chest.

For distance shots you want to aim at a persons chest as a head shot is much
harder to land and a chest has a wider profile and is easier to hit.

Sniping long distances with silenced weapon with out using the scope. I have
had great success with the Silenced M4A1. In full auto I line the crosshairs at
the neck level of say 3 guys on the bridge. In crouch I run a step or two left
then right while pumping the trigger. I shot guys out of second story window on
Frost Fire. Off the loading docks I shot two and got the third buy running up
the ramp and sweeping his cover he stepped right out into it. Pack extra ammo.
I took two on the bridge in Abandoned from the tree over by the water fall the
third I caught as he came over the ridge.

It is strafing at long distances most players do not know the shots are fired
or where it is coming from and it is a line of death drawn at there shoulders
with a steady stream you let the trigger off at each end of your strafe.

7.Communication Tips
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

If you are hidden and you see the enemy call out there position before you
engage them. Information can win a round. Call out your kills "Tango Down" it
gets others usually to follow suit and helps you keep track of who is still
alive.

In the death lobby talk about how you are going to pair up and what strategies
you are going to use.Watch the enemy analyze the tactics and talk about them.

Tell your best player good job if he is the person who won the last round for
you.

Snipers make good team leaders because they can direct the battle and cover
you. It can be hard sometimes to use the headset in a heated battle.

Keep your calls short and descriptive
"Sniper on temple stairs."
"Scratch one sniper."
"Regroup start point."
"Team two cover."
"Team one move up."

Remember to add the locations.
"Taking fire in Catacombs."
"Searching inside Temple."
"Searching inside Offices."
"Cleared Offices."

Let your team mates know where you lay Claymores. They can give the orders to
detonate you do not even need to be in the same room or have visual sight of
the mine.
"Detonate temple stairs."

Also team talk.
"Two teams."
"Opposite directions"
"Move out slow."
"Teams stop."
"Find cover and get prone."

Depending how long you wait before each command can allow for various set ups.

5 sentences sets up two teams of 4 laying in opposite directions setting 2
ambushes.

Tell people your name. Get theres. People with wierd names especially need to
tell people how to pronounce it.

You can ask for cover from your sniper as you move out.
"Bottom of waterfall I got any coverage?"
"Roger that I got you covered."
"Moving out."

In a manhunt call out the areas that you clear it helps form an idea of what is
left to search and if you get down to one or two locations. Call for a regroup
to storm the last spots.

My best tip yet find people at the start who will hang back to designate team
mates and a plan. Those who go running off by themselves write them off and
hope they at least kill someone.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
8.Network Set Up
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

If your computer and internet connection are in different rooms you can run
ethernet cord through your attic or along the floor under your carpet just buy
a 50 or 100 foot ethernet cord and find a path.Or according to OPM last months
issue you could set up a wireless network this is costly but will keep you from
running cords. The way this works is sending station plugged into internet
connection directly or into a router which is connected to your connection.
Then you set up the receiving station in the other room with your PS2 plugged
into it.
---
Some common online console set ups:

_1.You can hook your PS2 directly to your cable modem through one ethernet
cable going from modem to the PS2 ethernet adapter this is the easiest and
cheapest type of connection. You will not be able to use the PC while you play
the game but when your done unplug it from PS2 and plug it back into your PC.

_2.You can get a ethernet hub. Plug the ethernet cable from the modem into a
hub. Then plug another ethernet cable into the hub, the other end into your PCs
ethernet card. One more ethernet cable plugged into the hub then connected to
your PS2 ethernet adapter. This set up is decently priced and you can still use
your PC while playing online.

_3.This probably will not work with Windows 98 because it lacks support for
internet sharing. You could plug the outgoing ethernet cable from the modem
into your PCs ethernet card. Then if your card has an extra plug opening out
from it to your PS2 through a ethernet cable plugged into your PS2 adapter.

_4.If you connect to your cable modem through USB then you will most likely
have an open ethernet card on your computer. Just plug a ethernet cable into
the ethernet card and plug the other end into the PS2 adapter.

_5.Cable modem out to hub via one ethernet cable. One ethernet cable goes out
from the hub to the computers ethernet card. One ethernet cable out from the
hub to a wireless sending unit. In the room with the PS2 and the receiving unit
you go out from receiver unit to PS2 through a ethernet cable. This will be the
most expensive set up.

For options 3 and 4 the computer has to be on.
You also need at least Windows 98 SE running on the PC. Internet Connection
Sharing is not supported in Windows 98.
---

You need Sonys Official ethernet adapter. A router is for sharing your internet
so you can use your computer and PS2 at the same time. You only need the
adapter 40 dollars you could unplug the ethernet cable from the computer plug
it into the PS2 and when your done just change it back this is your cheapest
option.

Other adapters that work:
The USB100TX has been confirmed to work.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
9.Network Trouble Shooting
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

When ever you change your network system you may need to reset your broadband
modem to get the canges to work. You may also need to reset a router during the
same time.
Resetting your cable modem. You unplug the coaxial cable from the back of the
modem. Unplug the power from the modem let it sit for five minutes. Plug the
coaxial cable back into the modem. Then plug the power back it and let it cycle
through its power up and it will work.

Resetting both your modem and router. Unplug the power from the router. Plug it
in let it cycle through its power up. Then plug the coaxial cable back into the
modem. Then plug the power back it and let it cycle through its power up and it
will work.
Make sure you are using regular cat 5 cables and not cat 5 crossover cables.

When you make changes it is always a good idea to delete the last setup attempt
from your memory card. Everytime you try to sign on do a new PS2 online set up
and save it then try a log on.

Sometimes an ISP will check the Mac address on your PC to make sure you are
using one PC because they want to charge you for two. So if you do the cable
swap trick it will read the Mac address from the PS2 when it does not match,
they lock you out of the server and you will need to do a modem reset before
you can use either again. You may have to do this every swap. A router fools
the network into thinking it is one Mac address indentical to your PC. This
solved all problems for me.

Thanks goes to Laox for this great link it has so much information that is very
helpful.
