I. Introduction
------------------------

Well, this is the first document I've written for Dynasty Warriors 3, also
known as Shin Sangoku Musou 2, now one of my all time favorite action plus
stress relief titles for the PS2.

First of all, I would like to clarify that this is "not" a how to unlock
so and so character document. There are plenty of informative FAQs around
that tell people how to do that.

So what's the point of this particular one? Well, I have been playing DW3
for a couple of weeks now and have been really good about keeping away from
the cheat codes and Gameshark. One of the basic features that Dynasty
Warriors 3 that I really enjoy is the unlocking of hidden characters. To me,
it's very rewarding to see the cast gradually expanding from the initial nine
characters to the full group of 41.

Some of these characters can be unlocked via Free Mode, but can also be done
with along with most of the others in Musou (Story) Mode. So that is what got
me started thinking about writing this FAQ. Sure, the cheat codes can unlock
all of them in one fell swoop (to begin with a wider selection) or perhaps
there is a certain officer you would like to use but has not been unlocked yet.
But to me, that really takes the fun away from going through the different
stages of the game and fulfill the requirements in unlocking them.

Surely one can achieve the similar results with some patience and play time.
So after working it out first on paper for a bit, I came with a sort of guide
of the fastest way of getting all characters unlocked using the least amount
of characters to go through Musou Mode without using the Dynasty Warriors 2
Save Games or any Cheat Codes.

Version 1.2 (January 24, 2003) Thanks to catmandrake, who has provided me with
an even faster way to unlock all characters. The FAQ has been modified with
his suggestions.
Version 1.0 (July 30, 2002) Re-organized information and format for submission.
Version 0.5 (July 25, 2002) Initial Drafting of the guide.

III. Walkthrough
------------------------

Now, some assumptions needs to be brought to light first.
1. As I have stated before, the purpose of this guide is not to tell you how to
unlock certain characters. You "have" been reading, haven't you?
2. I do assume you have the patience and willingness to unlock characters
by playing the game without using codes.
3. I assume many people who read this will think I have too much time on my
hands to be doing this. Eh, can't win 'em all, right?
4. Finally, I am doing this not because people don't know about these
information, but I don't recall seeing something similar anywhere and just
thought it would be cool to bring to light.

Here we go, the way I ordered this is starting from the very top and work
your way down. The more hidden characters one could unlock in his/her Musou Mode,
the higher I place them on the list. When a character is unlocked, I put a
number behind the person's name to tally what is the current total number
of characters unlocked to be used in future games.

Total number of characters used for the task: 11

As you can see, the ones closer to the bottom are indifferent as to which order
you go through them. A good example is the Fu Xi requirement. This will allow
you to play with characters from each of the Kingdoms, with the exception of the
Unaligned Officers, and lets you go through all the stages, just not with all
the forces.

IV. Credits & Thanks
------------------------

I'd like to thank (but not limited to) the following people/organizations.
1. KOEI, the publisher/maker of the popular ROTK and DW Series.
2. Omega Force
3. Peer pressure from friends who brought this game to my attention.
4. Gamefaqs FAQs/Message Boards
5. Catmandrake ([email protected]) for providing me with a faster
route to unlock the characters.

Thus far, this document "should" only be found on:
http://www.gamefaqs.com

Well, that's about it. You've unlocked all the characters using only about 30%
of all the characters available. Without cheating, for that matter! Don't you
feel much better about yourself? Not really? Hmm, sorry, can't help ya
there.... Any way there are definitely other combinations available to accomplish
this task, and may be much more efficient than the one I got here. So if I made
any spelling mistakes, said something ambiguous, left out something, or if there
is a better solution, please do let me know.
