Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou FAQ & Walkthru
by Michael Baker ([email protected])

This document has been made following the Japanese version
of the game.  Thus, not all names might agree with the English
version.  I hope we are all intelligent enough to put two and two
together at the appropriate moments, and keep the confusion to
a minimum. Anyone who wishes to contribute correct English
names for demons and items is free to do so.

All names and characters mentioned within this FAQ in connection
with the game are copyright of the Atlus gaming company.

================The World================

Tokyo, the Imperial Capitol. A bustling city riding the boundary
of old and new, tradition and innovation.  It is now the 20th year
of the Taisho Emperor's reign, and the nation's industrial might
grows at a pace with its military ambition.  Various high-ranking
members of the military are jockeying for power in this new
order, while the citizenry struggle to come to terms with how the
country has changed in the last few generations.

(Note: For those not interested in researching Japanese history
and year-notation, the year Taisho 20 is the same as 1930 A.D.
Or rather, it would be, if there had been a Taisho 20.  The Taisho
Emperor was only in power for 15 years. Just the game designers'
way of telling us this is all fiction, I suppose.)

In the middle of the city, the Narumi Detective Agency is keeping
busy with regular, everyday cases, as well as the occasional strange
happenings to make things interesting.  The number of strange
occurrences has been on the increase lately, however.  And the
strangest of all is about to begin, with a simple phone call...

=========Dramatis Personae (Who's Who)============

Kuzunoha Raidou, age: late teens
The Devil Summoner.  Raidou is the 14th generation of his family
to bear the name.  You can choose another birth name for him, but
in the occult world, he shall always be a Kuzunoha. He works as an
assistant detective at the Narumi Detective Agency.

Narumi, age: early 30s
Raidou's boss, and head of his own detective agency, though you
usually don't see him do much work. He's more canny than he
appears, though.

Gotou Douji, age: no telling
Raidou's familiar, a black cat with green eyes. As Raidou himself
is a silent protagonist, your cat will do much of the talking in this
game. He's got an odd sense of humor.

Tae Asakura, age: early 20s
A mature, sophisticated woman of the world, and a reporter for
the Imperial Times.  There's definitely something going on between
her and Narumi, to her amusement and his annoyance.  The alternate
spelling of her name is Taye, however the second katakana symbol in
her name (ye) is no longer used in modern Japanese, and is usually
replaced with (e).

Kaya Daidouji, age: 15
Daughter of the famous Daidouji family, there's something odd
about her. Stories abound of the family's “curseâ€￾, though no one
can tell you exactly what it might be. Nevertheless, young Kaya
has been living under a cloud since the day she was born. When
things begin to get real crazy, she calls the Narumi Detective
Agency, for some reason.

Dr. Viktor, age: unknown, but over a hundred, at least
The good doctor is a specialist in the summoning and fusing of
demonic entities.  He enjoys his work just a little too much...

General Munakata, age 40
Munakata is the head of the Imperial Army, and is in a constant
rivalry with his opposite in the Navy. He's willing to go to some
extremes to get the power and influence he desires.

Rasputin, age: unknown
The mad monk himself! All rumors to the effect of his demise
have been greatly exaggerated, I assure you. Rasputin is alive
and kicking. In the occult world of Shin Megami Tensei, he is also
known as the Dark Summoner. You have to give him credit for
style, at least. He uses demonic matryoshka dolls to hold his
summoned spirits!

=========Controls and Navigation==========

--------The Worldmap----------
Or rather, the city map.  This game takes place almost entirely
within the boundaries of old Tokyo. There are specific areas of
town, such as Ginza or the port, where you can control Raidou
completely, battling monsters or talking to people, called the
Field Map. Between these areas, in the City Map, Raidou can
either walk or take the train, but there are no battles. As the story
progresses, more areas are added to the train list, and a third
method of transportation will be revealed.

On the Field Map, press Triangle to bring up the full map of
the area.  Important spots, like the Narumi Agency of the
Konnouya Item Shop, will be labeled directly, while various
icons are used for other things, like Raidou, magic barriers, or
special places where monster skills can be used.

You can talk to people that you meet using the O button, but
some folks just won't want to say anything. In many cases,
there will be an extra option that you can use with these people
to get them talking. If your demon friend has the appropriate
skill, then it'll show up, otherwise it'll just be a question mark.
Since there are at least five such skills dealing with people, you
might have to shuffle a bit until you get the right one.

There are many different ways you can have your demons inter-
act with the world.  A complete list is included at the end of the
FAQ section.

-----------Menus-------------

--Basic Menu
From the top:
-Skills.  Use this option to access skills from your demons, like
healing

-Items.  This one should be pretty obvious

-Nakama (ally demons). Here, you can check the condition of
your demon buddies, as well as set which one follows you around
on the screen, and which one is automatically summoned at the
start of a battle.

-Status.  Check your own stats.

-Map.  Same thing as hitting Triangle on the Field Map.

-Configure.  Here you can change various settings, like Dual Shock,
text speed, or sound.

-Game Data.  This is where you can load previous game data.

At the bottom, you can see your current amount of Mag (magnetite)
and yen, and the current type of ammo in your gun.

Magnetite is the most important here. Any time there's a summons
animation, on the field or in battle, it uses up some of your Mag.
This is what demons need to stay physical in the world, so always
be careful with your supply.  The higher the level you reach, the
more you can carry!

---Field Map Menu
This is mainly for controlling your demon in the field.
-Summon.  Call up one of your demons. Uses Mag.

-Return.  Return the demon from the field.

-Solo.  Send the demon out by itself, usually to areas Raidou can't
get to on his own. If you get into a fight, you will control the demon
directly.

-Use (special skill).  Some demons have special abilities which can
be used in the field. Of these, some can only be used when talking to
people, but others (accessed on this menu) can be used anywhere in
the field.  This menu option only appears if there is a valid skill
available.

-Return to the Agency.  Automatically return to the Narumi Agency,
paying all appropriate train fares along the way.  Only works in the
town, not in dungeons.

---Home Base Menu
What you can do at the Agency
--Talk. Have a conversation with whoever's in the office at that time.
--Save.
--Read the casefiles. Available after Chapter 1.
--Leave the office.

---Battle Screen Menu
Access this menu in battle.
-Set Tactics. Only available if you have a demon summoned. Use
this to direct your demon in battle.
---Set Attack. Allows you to directly choose the demon's attack
and target (demon's loyalty needs to be fairly high to do this)
---Use physical skill, if it has one
---Use magic attack, if it has one
---Use healing magic, if it has any.
---Conserve MP. No magic at all.
---Do whatever.

-Summon.  Call up one of your demons to do battle. Uses Mag.

-Return. Send your demon ally away.

-Change Ammo.  Swap out the bullets in your gun.

-Item.  Use an item in battle.

-Run Away.  For desperate situations...  You have to wait until the
Escape Gauge is full for it to work.

-Examine.  Use up 10 Mag to size up an enemy demon's stats and
(known) weak-points. Really only good as a reference, since it won't
show you info on demons you're encountering for the first time.

---------------Battles-----------------

Whenever your out in the field or dungeon running around, there's
a chance that you'll be attacked by demons. The icon in the bottom
right of the screen should give you some idea of your chances of
demon encounter.  Green means you're fairly safe, Yellow means
there's a little risk, and Red means that a battle is imminent. Blue
only shows up in areas completely free of monsters.

When a battle starts, the first thing you want to do is summon a
demon to help you. You can preset a demon beforehand, or choose
one on the spot to summon. Your demon will act independently,
based on the tactics you set for it.

On your demon's status bar in-battle, you'll see a little monster icon.
This is the Tension Gauge.  When it reaches full power (yellow
demon flexing muscles), then you'll be able to perform a combo
skill with that monster. The particular skill depends on the demon.
Some are sword-based, some shot-based, others are defensive, etc.

---Battle Commands

Square:  Basic sword slash. Keep pressing the button to perform a
three-hit combo.

Square + Direction: Tap the joystick or direction button in one
direction while you press Square to perform a lunge attack.

Press and hold Square, then release it to perform a spinning slash
attack, a la Link.

Triangle: Shoot.  Even though this won't cause much damage, it's
a good way to stun enemies for a few seconds. If your bullets hit
the enemy's weakness (elemental/status), then it'll be stunned for
much longer, and can possibly be dominated.

X button: Defend.  All hits are reduced damage, often single-digits.

Square + X: Combo attack.  Use this when your demon partner's
Tension Gauge is full. Be sure to press Square first.

O button: Dominate. When an enemy is stunned from you hitting
its weak point, you can run over to it and start mash the O button
to force it to your will. Get the green gauge that appears to the max
point (no green at all), and the demon's yours.

L1: Call your demon. It will teleport directly to you, away from
whatever attack might have been about to hit it, or to help you
against some other enemies.

----------De Roerum Demonica (All About Demons)----------

Devil Summoner has scrapped all the various demon categories
seen in other MegaTen games, streamlining it to a basic group
of seven, with many different demons in each group.

Crimson Flame: any and all fire-based monsters. Basic field
skill is Inflame.

Silver Ice: any and all water-based monsters. Basic field skill is
Cool Down.

Lightning Strike: all volt-based monsters. Basic field skill is
Item-finder.

Wind Blast: all air-based monsters. Basic field skill is Scout.

Fury: all brute-force monsters. Basic field skill is Strength.

Pagan: all status-spell loving monsters. Basic field skill is Mind
Reading.

Skill: You get these monsters by fusing two demons of the same
type. Their field skill is Inspire. I've also heard that you can only
dominate these guys during the full of the moon, but I need to
check on that.

Undead: This is the seventh major group of demons, and the only
one which you canNOT recruit from. Well, technically you can,
but only because several other undead-looking monsters have been
classified under other categories, like the Ghouls or the Flying Skull
demon. Here, Undead generally means Zombie.

There are a few other types you'll see here and there, but they're
generally special designations made up for certain bosses, which
you cannot recruit or fuse into being.

----Fusion Types

In this game there are three sorts of fusion: Binary, Sacrifice, and
Schmidt.

Binary- choose two demons to combine, in order to create a stronger
demon. Very straightforward. You cannot create a demon with whose
level is higher than Raidou's

Sacrifice- choose one demon and use it to increase the stats of an-
other demon. A good way to make use of lower-level demons, but
it doesn't seem to raise anything all that much.

Schmidt- choose one demon and fuse it with Raidou's sword. The
sword will gain or lose attack power depending on the demon, and
Raidou will gain both a minor stat bonus, but also an elemental
defense bonus, depending on the demon used.

----Fusion Combinations
Since there are only six types to work with here, fusing demons in
Devil Summoner is far, far easier than it was in some of the earlier
SMT games. Here are the combinations:

Fire + Fire = Skill
Fire + Ice = Wind
Fire + volt = Fury
Fire + Wind = volt
Fire + Fury = Wind
Fire + Pagan = Ice

Ice + Ice = Pagan
Ice + volt = Fury
Ice + Wind = Fire
Ice + Fury = volt
Ice + Pagan = Fury

Volt + Volt = Pagan
Volt + Wind = Ice
Volt + Fury = Ice
Volt + Pagan = Fire

Wind + Wind = Skill
Wind + Fury = Fire
Wind + Pagan = Volt

Fury + Fury = Skill
Fury + Pagan = Wind

Pagan + Pagan = Skill
Skill + Skill = Pagan
Skill + anything else = ????

Notes:
When fusing a Skill demon, the outcome will almost always be
random, except when fusing with another Skill demon. The re-
sult will always be a demon you've already got on your list, but
with stats and abilities inherited from the fused demons in its
lineage.

When fusing a Pagan demon, keep in mind that the skills passed
on to the new demon are also randomized. Usually, when you
do a binary fusion, the inherited skill is set, and will not change
if you reset the combination (however, a change of moon phase
may alter the outcome). With a Pagan demon in the mix, every
time you reset the combination, a new set of skills will be chosen
for inheritance.

---------------------Field Skills------------------------

Each demon has one, often two, special skills which can be used
outside of battle.  Some work directly on people, and are used to
make witnesses more talkative to Raidou.  Others are used to affect
or interact with parts of the scenery that Raidou cannot do anything
with personally.  A few can be used anywhere, and there are two
that are used automatically at random intervals.

Here's the list:

Inflame: basic fire-type field skill. It fans the flames of passion in
the target human, making them more likely to burst out with some
important information. Can also burn things in a more physical
manner.

Chill Out: basic ice-type field skill. It cools down those who are
overly agitated, so that they will listen to Raidou's questions. Can
also be used to freeze things literally.

Mind Reading: basic pagan-type field skill. It looks into the heart,
and tells you what that person is thinking. Can be used to communi-
cate with animals.

Inspire: basic craft-type skill. It inspires people to new heights,
and can help get things done faster.

True Colors: A rare field skill that forces the target to show their
true nature to the world.

Strength: basic fury-type field skill. It's useful for moving heavy
objects.

Fly: A common skill that allows the demon to travel through areas
that Raidou cannot reach, often to get items or perform far-off tasks.

Inspect: A common skill that allows the demon to fit in cramped
areas too small for Raidou to go in himself.

Item-finder: basic volt-type skill. If there are any hidden items
on-screen, they'll shine brightly. Often used to find storyline items.

Scout: basic wind-type skill. The demon flies up into the air, then
returns to tell you what types of demons inhabit the immediate area.
It doesn't always tell you all the demons that live near there, however.

High Cliff Flower:  A rare skill which keeps other demons away.

Innen Aura: An uncommon skill that makes other demons want to
attack you.

Moneygrubber: A rare skill. When a demon with this is following
you around town, it will on occasion find a few yen lying on the
ground. The amount may vary greatly.

Right-hand Man: A rare skill. When a demon with this is follow-
ing you around town, it will on occasion find items lying on the
ground. The items may vary greatly in rarity and usefulness.

=================Walkthru Section===================

----------------Prologue: The Summoner's Ordeal----------------

This is the basic tutorial section of the game.

The guardian spirit of the Kuzunoha clan, Yatagarasu has decided
that a new Devil Summoner is needed to protect Japan. Your
character has stepped up to present himself as a candidate for the
role. After being presented with the tools and outfit of his trade, he
must face the ordeal.

Battle 1:  2 zombies.
Before the battle, you get a basic description of the X, O, and Square
buttons.  Go beat up those zombies!

Battle 2:  2 zombies
Pretty much the same as before, but before this battle, you're told
how to use the lunge and spin attacks.  Feel free to practice, but you
don't have to use them to pass the battle.

Battle 3: 1 Ukobaku
This battle is a little different. If you kill the Ukobaku, you fail the
test and must try again. The point here is to get the Ukobaku to
about half its HP, then hit it with an Ice Bullet (you'll have to swap
ammo via the battle menu to do that), and use the O button to
dominate it into serving you.

Battle 4:  7 zombies
At least, I think it was seven... Anyway, here we look at human-
demon interaction, after the cool cut-scene where your character
summons a demon for the first time. Every time Ukobaku hits a
zombie (weak against fire), it is stunned. If you hit the zombie then,
power is added to the Ukobaku's Tension Guage. After the battle,
you and the Ukobaku will level up, allowing it to use the combo
attack, Blazing Bullet.

Battle 5:  7 zombies
Here, we get to explore the fun world of combo attacks. Take out
those zombies!

Battle 6: Okikumushi + zombies
I'm not sure how many zombies, since it's possible they'll just
keep coming if you keep Okikumushi alive. Before this battle,
you'll get a recap of all the tutorial bits up to this point. The
Okikumushi is a kind of centipede-woman, a pagan-type demon,
who can use ice-attacks and is weak against fire. Two combo
attacks and she's pretty much wiped.

After you finish the ordeal, the guardian spirit will name you as
Kuzunoha Raidou the Fourteenth, heir to the name and power of
the Devil Summoners. Then he'll introduce you to your new partner,
Gotou Douji, the cat. He's not terribly impressed with a youngster
like you.

The two of you travel to the Nameless Shrine to meet the Herald of
Yatagarasu and receive Raidou's marching orders. It seems that he's
destined to be the guardian of the Imperial City. Though this may
seem to be too big a job for one man, the Herald does have a suggest-
ion: seek out a man called Narumi who runs a detective agency, and
work for him. That way, you have a job, contacts, and a reason to
be running all over town.  She also gives you the Spirit Mirror,
which you can use to see the strengths of various demons you face.

A few months later...

While reading the paper, Narumi gets a strange phone call. A girl,
from the sound of her voice quite young, asks you to meet her by
the bridge near your part of town. She sounds urgent, so Narumi
and his faithful sidekick (you) go out to meet her.

In fact, she is very young, still wearing a high school uniform,
but there's something about her eyes... Then she asks Narumi to
do something, to kill her!

There's no chance to respond to this strange request, however,
as, with a flash and a bang, three strange, red-clothed soldiers
appear. One grabs the girl and runs, while the other two hold you
off until they can make a quick getaway. In the end, you're left
with only a pair of puzzled expressions, and a butterfly brooch
the girl dropped.

The next day, Narumi decides to send you out on an investigation.
There are plenty of strange rumors about that bridge, and he wants
you to find out more about it and, if possible, the strange girl. The
game is afoot!

--------------------Chapter 1: A Cry for Help---------------

Right as you step out of the office, you start talking to one of the
locals. He's not very communicative, and Gotou is pretty sure he's
not telling you everything.  Now we get a basic intro to field skills.
Call up your Ukobaku by pressing R1 and choosing to summon it.
Go up to the man and press X to cast Inflame to heat things up.
Then show him the brooch.  He'll mention a name, Wappa, and
that the brooch bears the mark of the Daidouji house, a prominent
local family. You're now free to explore a bit.

_____________________________________________________
Area: Yarai Ward, Tsukudo Town.
Here, you have the Narumi Agency, the Konnouya Item Shop (as
well as Viktor's lab in the basement), a large temple, and lots of
folks to question.

Demons:
Zombie (undead) A staple monster of the RPG tradition
Ukobaku (fire) Funny little guy with a lantern. Weak against ice.
Alp (pagan) A European demon that can read minds.
Obalyon (fury) A cute little guy with fists of fury! Weak vs. ice.

ITEMS:
From people:
Use Inflame on the woman standing one screen right of the Konnouya
to get a medium healing item

From buildings:
Use a demon (solo action) to investigate the parlor (near middle inter-
section, west side of Tsukudo) to get Ice Cream.

Have a demon investigate the building with the soldier in front, near
the Konnouya, to find some Syrup.

Have a demon investigate the tofu shop near the bridge, SW side of
Tsukudo, to get some Tofu.

Itemfinder:
Use the item-finder ability on the bridge near Konnouya to get
a bottle of Raiden Liquor (raises volt demons' friendship)

Use the item-finder at the soba restaurant to find 20 wind bullets

On the ground:
The following items are scattered around the alleys of Tsukudo:
Medium healing item
Reviver x2
Mind Heal x2
Small healing potion
Healing Gem (behind the Parlor)

Near the bridge on the south side of town, you can trade a healing
item to a man in exchange for 2000 yen.

You can also take the train to the next station over to get a Kyoto
Cameo and some Mansaku Liquor.
____________________________________________________

You will want to capture an Alp demon for the Mind Reading ability
and Dia (Heal) spell first, talk to random people around town, then
head to the Daidouji house.

The Daidouji house is also in Yarai Ward, just north of Tsukudo
Town, where you are now. Go up there, introduce yourself to the
butler, Nakamura, and show him the brooch. You'll then meet the
master of the house, who tells you a bit about his daughter Kaya,
who's been sick in bed for a while now.

When you leave the room, Gotou notices another door, but the
butler won't let you go in. Now's the time to use your demon,
since ordinary people can't see them. Press R1, select Solo Action,
and your chosen demon will travel around on its own. You can
control it in battle, using Square for regular attack, X for defense,
and Triangle and O for whichever attack spells it might have. Go
to the room at the end of the hallway and snoop around to find a
picture of Kaya. You now have confirmation that she is the girl
from the night before, and you can see her school in the back-
ground. Time for more investigating!

____________________________________________________
Yarai Ward, Daidouji House
A large, modern-looking Japanese house. There are many people
to question here.

Demons
zombie (undead) They're everywhere!
Ukobaku (fire) Still carrying a torch
Alp (pagan) Who does her hair?
Obalyon (fury) His head looks like an acorn
Agacion (volt) A little guy hiding in a floating pot.

Items:
Using Item-finder, Rakuyou Chalice , second floor east guest
room

On the ground, a bottle of Home-brew Beer, second floor
guest room
____________________________________________________

On the first floor, left of the staircase is a woman you can talk to,
but you'll need Mind Reading to get more out of her. The woman
on the left can be bribed 100 yen, and she'll tell you anything
you'd like. Behind her is a corridor with another servant. Just look
at him in a mean way and he'll give you info.

Upstairs, there's a man who'll respond to Inflame, a girl you can
mind-read, and the two non-storyline items in the house.

The corridor is a dead-end, apparently, so go back and report to
Narumi. He suggests you go looking for high school girls from
the same school as Kaya. As if a teenager ever needed an excuse
to meet high school girls..

Go to the south-west corner of Tsukudo Town (use your map for
guidance), one screen north of the bridge, to meet the two local
schoolgirls, Fumiko and Yaeko. They're much impressed to meet a
real detective. They don't really know Kaya that well, but her friend
Rin might be able to help. Rin usually hangs out at the parlor across
the street. In fact, they just saw her leave.

(note: Fumiko and Yaeko aren't too important to the story after this,
but it's fun to go back and talk to them from time to time, because
their lines are so funny)

Go down the alley by the parlor, and you'll see a girl wearing glasses.
Talk to her, show her the brooch, and she'll want to talk, but out here.
Follow her into the alley. Unfortunately, before she can talk to you,
-something- makes her disappear into thin air.

Gotou thinks that a demon must have pulled her into the Otherworld,
the demon realm, and Narumi agrees (if you ask him). From this point,
the trains can take you to Shinoda Town outside the city, where the
Nameless Shrine is.

______________________________________________________
Nameless Shrine

Points of interest: Save Point, Fox Statues, Herald, Bonus Dungeon

Talk to the fox statues if you wish to review the material from the
tutorial.

Near the entrance to the shrine is a hand-washing area. Examine it
to find the entrance of the bonus dungeon (after second chapter)
______________________________________________________

Go up to the shrine and ring the bell to summon the Herald. In this
game, the Herald serves two purposes: to upgrade your rank as a
Devil Summoner (changes the title given on your status screen),
and to provide a portal to the Otherworld if you need it. One cut-
scene later, and you're back in Tsukudo Town! ... sort of.

The Otherworld lies atop the real world, and looks pretty much the
same, just with different lighting. Still, this is the home of the
demons, so watch out.

As soon as you arrive, the first thing you see is Rin, up ahead at
the intersection, with a large spider-demon called Tsuchigumo
standing over her. Unfortunately, he sees you too, and sends
zombies after you. Tch, like those will hurt you...

Set Battle: 4 zombies
--Nothing special, just kill them. Again.

After you finish them off, head up to the demon. You'll see that
he's well prepared, with a Dragon Wall already in place. There's
no way you can go through it, so you'll have to find a way around.
Time to explore!
_____________________________________________________
Otherworld Tsukudo
Looks almost like the real thing, but you can't leave through the
regular exits. A few demons to talk to, though. The blue orb guys
are healers, but they don't come cheap. Big blue crystals hold items.

Demons:
Zombie (undead), They just keep coming...
Ukobaku (fire) Fire! Fire!
Agacion (volt) Cute little pot-heads..
Azumi (ice) A Japanese merman?

ITEMS:
Blue crystals:
Magic Incense (Magic Power Up)
Restore Incense (revives a character w/ medium amount of HP)
Chakra Drop (restores MP)
Medium healing item
Sleep bullets x15

Requires Flying skill:
Healing gem
__________________________________________________

Getting around the Dragon Wall isn't too difficult. Just remember
the street-plan from the real Tsukudo Town. The alleyway in the
middle of town is also blocked, but the road that goes by the
Konnouya and your office isn't. Talk to the three little guys along
the way if you like. If you try to go past them, they'll have to stop
you, though.

Set Battle 2:  3 Obalyon
--Pretty easy. They're weak against ice, so I hope you caught an
Azumi by now. Just don't let them get in close enough to use their
stronger physical attacks. You get two small healing potions for
this battle.

After you beat them, they'll ask you a question. Doesn't matter
what you answer though, so...

Set Battle 3:  3 Obalyon
--Just as easy this time around.

Go past them now, and turn left at the agency. At the next alley-
way intersection (one with the Incubus), you can turn right to find
another healer. If you go straight, you'll find another obstruction.

As Gotou explains to you, this is called a Shikimi Shadow. They
are impervious to almost everything, but always have one weak
point. Upon closer examination, he tells you this one is weak against
electricity. You'll need an volt demon to hurt it. Well, the area is
full of Agacion, so if you don't have one yet, go get one.

(note: stand near a Shikimi Shadow and look at the bottom right
part of your screen to see what type it is. There are 5 types, four weak
against elemental attacks, and the last weak against bullets.)

Set Battle 4:  Shikimi Shadow (volt), 2 Azumi
--Take out the two Azumi (Shikimi doesn't attack), then pull out the
Agacion and fry that shadow out of existence!  You get a bottle of
Raiden Liquor and some small healing potions after this battle.

Go on ahead, take out the ugly spider while you're at it!

Boss Battle:  Tsuchigumo x3
The Tsuchigumo are a bit tougher than other demons in the area, but
they're weak against Ice, so pull out your Azumi and your ice bullets!
They have a close-in poison attack, so try and keep away. They can
also be confused pretty easily. You get three Chakra Chips after this
battle.

With the Tsuchigumo gone, Rin is automatically returned to the real
world. Take the portal nearby to do the same. Talk to Narumi again,
and he'll suppose that she's been returned to somewhere in the vici-
nity, so go back to that intersection, and she'll be in the middle of
the road.  Talk to her to find out more about Kaya Daidouji and the
mysterious curse that supposedly haunts her family. There is also
mention of an underground part of the house. Time to go back and
investigate some more.

In the Daidouji house, go back to the end of that corridor on the left,
the one that was empty. Now, you can feel a breeze coming from
somewhere in the room. Examine the far wall. Now, pull out your
Agacion, and hit the L1 button to activate Item-finder (Gotou will
give you helpful instructions, just in case you've never used it before).

Examine the bookshelf where the light is shining, and pick the second
book (something about demons, I think). That opens the way.

_______________________________________________________
Daidouji House, underground passage
It seems as though a section of the cellars in Daidouji House have
intersected with the Otherworld. Be careful, and make use of the
Save Point at the beginning.

Demons:
Zombie (undead) These things are getting tiresome
Jack Lantern (fire) Hi-ho!
Poltergeist (wind) Little mischief ghosts, absorbs bullets
Raijuu (volt) The thunder beast! Weak against wind

Items:
Blue crystals:
Fire bullets x15
Soma Drop (take exit near Great Tarask, on city map)
Chakra Chip x2
Healing Gem (requires Flying skill)
_______________________________________________________

Halfway through this short level is the Great Tarask, a very large
demon. He has a taste for foreign red wine, and since he's the only
way across the small lake he's swimming in, you're going to have
to get him some. Go back upstairs.

As you exit to the main hall, you'll see Nakamura the butler dressing
down one of the maids, because the girl who was sent to get the wine
for the house hasn't been back yet. Talk to the maid, then go back to
Tsukudo Town to find a very frightened young maid outside the
foreign goods store.  Act friendly, and she'll let you take the wine
back for her.

Give the wine to Great Tarask. Being a demon, however, his first
thought after draining the bottle is that you look like an appetizer.

Boss Battle:  Great Tarask, Azumi x2
All three of these demons are weak against fire, so pull out your
Ukobaku (or Jack Lantern, for preference), and torch them. When
you've got Great Tarask down past 3/4 HP, he'll surrender.

Now, Tarask will ask for some Beer. If you were a snoop earlier,
you already found this upstairs in the house. Give him the beer,
and he'll let you ride across the small lake.

Grab the two items here (one requires flying), and head on. Take
note of the two strange matroyshka dolls along the path, and head
up to the bedroom / cell.  Those little papers plastered all over the
place are supposed to be amulets against black magic, ghosts, and
demons. Whoever was kept in here, they didn't want any magic
getting out...  Gotou will notice a dustless spot on the bookcase,
so use Item-finder again to locate the missing book.

Read Kaya's diary, and things start looking even stranger... Go
back the way you came. Those two dolls you saw before? Gone,
and replaced by a couple of Tuldaks.  A Giant Skeleton (Gashadokuro)
will pop up behind you, and the fight is on.

Boss Battle:  Gashadokuro, Tuldak x2
Easy. They're all weak against fire, so use lots of fire bullets, fire
spells, and if you have Jack Lantern's combo attack open already,
spam it. The Gashadokuro should be dead in a few hits, using that.
After the battle, you'll get a Reviver, and some Mute Cure.

When you get back up to the main room of the house, you'll hear
some commotion coming from the meeting room. Master Daidouji
is talking with another man, but you can't really make out everything
they're saying. The parts you can hear, like “You took herâ€￾ and “Give
her backâ€￾ sound very interesting, though. Too bad Nakamura won't
let you close to the door. Send out a demon to eavesdrop instead.

Afterwards, go back and consult with your boss. Narumi decides that
you should go talk to Master Daidouji again. This time, Nakamura is
too upset about something to stop you, and you walk right on in.

The following cutscene is just the first of several mildly disturbing
scenes that are the reason why there's an advisory warning that comes
up when you start the game.

Follow Daidouji out of the room, and... something's different. During
the cutscene, you were pulled into the Otherworld version of Daidouji
House. A mysterious man, with a strong foreign accent, taunts you,
and even calls you by name, before summoning up a strong demon
to attack you.

Boss Battle:  Ichimokuren, Tuldak (always 2, keep coming back)
A huge floating eyeball, Ichimokuren has perfect defense as long
as its tentacles protect the eye. Take out the two Tuldaks to make
it open up, then hammer it with electric attacks. If it brings in more
Tuldaks, you'll have to get rid of them too before it's vulnerable
again. Try not to get too close, because its spinning tentacle attack
hurts. You get a Kyoto Cameo when you win.

After the battle, you automatically return to the office, talk to Narumi,
who gives his impression of the entire affair, and then the chapter
ends.

--End Chapter One--

------------------------Chapter 2: The Man in Red---------------------

It's another quiet day in the office.  Narumi is sitting back and enjoy-
ing a smoke, when she walks in.  Tae Asakura, star reporter.  Your
boss is not pleased. Whatever history these two have, it's obvious
that she annoys Narumi to no end, and she enjoys it. He tries to brush
her off, saying that you all are too busy to take any jobs from her, so
she asks you if this is true. Answer yes, it is, and her response is some-
thing along the lines of: “Oh Narumi, you wicked man, you made little
Raidou tell a fib! Bad, bad man!â€￾

So, the job... She wants the two of you to investigate the strange, red-
robed man who's been terrorizing taxi drivers in Ginza, the prosperous
business district on the east side of the city. She even has a picture of
the guy, though it's really poor. You can't see his face, but he -looks-
a lot like the strange figure that Master Daidouji turned into the other
day. Like it or not, you'll have to look into this!

Narumi has another lead for you to follow up as well: Master Daidouji
often frequented a ryotei, a private club for the rich and powerful,
called the Dragon Shrine, on the south side of Ginza.

----New Stuff:
Trains to Ginza are now available. Should be the third option (for
the moment)

The Konnouya is now selling the following items:
Mute Cure
Attract Water (more battles)
Repel Water (fewer battles)
Wind Bullets
volt Bullets
Regular bullet magazine (can hold up to 99 regular shots)

Viktor also has a new type of fusion available for you: Sacrifice
fusion. You give up one demon to add to the stats of another. It
has its uses, but it's best for getting rid of the deadweight characters
when you cannot or don't want to make new demons.

When you get off the train at Ginza, talk to the first person on the
city map to learn about the New World Milk Hall (a wonderful
euphemism for a bar), where many folks who are “in the knowâ€￾
about demons gather for cocktails and chat. Good place for info,
so visit there first. It's accessible from the city map, north side of
Ginza.

_______________________________________________________
New World Milk Hall

Services:
Sell demons for MAG.
Buy drinks.
Get advice from other summoners.
Hear rumors.

The drinks will up your stats, a different stat for each kind of drink.
The effect has a limited duration, but still lasts a good while.

The blonde foreign woman is the local rumormonger. Right now
she'll only have the scoop on the Milk Hall and the Konnouya, but
talk to her in later chapters for more info.
______________________________________________________

When you're finished, head into Ginza proper.

______________________________________________________
Ginza
Welcome to the business district. There's a large construction project
in the middle of the area, with a large platform bridging the south and
north sides. There are five exits from this area, but the one you want
to take (to Dragon Shrine ryotei) is the bottom right one on the area
map. The left exit is the one you start at, and the top and bottom left
exits lead to items. The pair of exits on the far right of the map lead to
a port, but you can't do anything with that now.

Demons:
Zombie (undead) They're everywhere!
Ultros (fire) A large two-headed lion-wolf. Hit with ice or wind.
Jack Lantern (fire) Hi-ho!
Poltergeist (wind) Bullets are a no-no.
Mokoi (pagan) A combination Gumby and Jack the Ripper!

Items;
On the city map, north and south of Ginza, you can find an Asuka
Mirror and a Luck Incense

On the ground in Ginza:
Mute Cure
500 yen
Poison Cure x3
Magic Stone
Strength Incense (hidden behind the median, second intersection)

Item-finder:
10,000 yen (head right from main Ginza entrance)
Smokescreen (near the north exit, in front of a poster)
__________________________________________________________

To the right of the man entrance is a soldier in need of some firing up,
so use Inflame to get more info on the Red-Caped Man from him.
Another guy up the main road needs to chill out over his broken car.
There are many other people you can talk to for more background info,
but the first important stop is under that metal platform in the center of
Ginza. There's an old bum digging through the rubble there. Read his
mind to see what he's found. Gotou takes an interest in the old amulet,
and tells you to make an offer. At first, the man wants 50,000 yen, but
you can quickly haggle him down to 50. This gets you the Ragged Old
Amulet (key item).

Next, head down from the old bum, and towards the nearest exit (lower
righthand exit, on your map). You'll be stopped by a woman in a kimono,
who asks if you happened to see a local taxi driver in the area, last full
moon. Ask her for more details, and it seems that a man she knows has
gone missing recently, and she's very concerned. After she leaves,
continue on through the exit.

_______________________________________________________
Dragon Shrine Ryotei
A posh, traditional Japanese restaurant and meeting place for the rich
and political. You can't go in, but the proprietress, a woman in a green
kimono, will meet you at the front.

items:
On the ground:
Mansaku Liquor
Secret Brew Masamune (Itemfinder)
_______________________________________________________

Show her the photo of the red-caped man to get her thoughts on the
subject first, then ask her about Master Daidouji. Seems like he spent
a lot of time at the ryotei, having meetings with other important person-
ages. His regular ride to the restaurant was a rickshaw taxi driver named
Iida. Ask about Iida, and you learn that he operates out of Fukagawa, in
Senjuu Ward. You'll now have Fukagawa station available for the train.
It's the third choice on the list (Ginza is now #4)

Senjuu Ward is what people refer to as the bad part of town. It's
seedy, old-fashioned, run-down, and there's a red-light district
called Playtown in the middle of it. On the outskirts there's a
physics laboratory testing new rockets, a lake with a shrine on it
up north, and the Daidouji factory (which is currently guarded)

First thing you notice, walking into Fukagawa Town, is the onsen
(bathhouse). A big statue of Daikoku, one of the gods of luck,
smiles benignly at all who come near. The toughs at the entrance
will let you through, eventually, but they let you know that if you're
looking for people, the man to ask is Satake-san. He's the guy with
the tattoo of Daikoku on his back.

During the following cut-scene, check out all the elaborate tattoos
on the backs of the patrons in this bathhouse. If you know anything
about Japan and tattoos, this should tell you something. For those
not in the know, the word is three syllables: YA-KU-ZA. Oh, and
we get some Raidou fanservice for the ladies.

Seems like the locals don't take to strange young men crashing
their bathhouse. Fistfight!

Battle:  Gorotsuki & Narazumono
Two yakuza toughs. Duke it out mano a mano with them, since
you left all your weapons (and clothes) behind at the entrance.
Easy battle. Thankfully they don't punt kick you back into puberty.

Satake, the local yakuza boss, likes your style, thankfully. He'll
give you whatever info you want, to a point. What that point is,
hopefully we shall never know. Iida's house is farther down the
road in Fukagawa Town, but there's been trouble around there
lately. Strange soldiers in red have been grabbing folks for no
apparent reason. Be careful.

______________________________________________________
Senjuku Ward, Fukagawa Town

Demons:
Tsuchigumo (volt) Ugly spider-thing. Use ice or wind attacks
Mou Shabo (wind) Cute little angel girl. Get her for her heal spell.
Jack Lantern (fire) Hi-ho forever!
Raijuu (volt)  The lightning wolf. Kill it with wind spells.

Items
Near Daikoku Bathhouse:
Gather Water
Repel Water (use Itemfinder)

On the city map, you can find a Chakra Pot (big MP restore)
________________________________________________________

Don't worry about the other items in town just yet. Head across the
bridge, and you should see a rickshaw in front of Iida's house. Go and
examine it, and get into some trouble in the meanwhile. A pair of
redcoats don't like you loitering around, and pull you into the Otherworld.

They make a mistake though, handing you over to the two zombie
guards. Hmph, zombies...

Battle:  Zombie Soldier x2
--Sure, sure, they've got shotguns now. That's a switch. They still burn
beautifully, though, so light 'em up! You get two Chakra Drops after
this battle.

There's someone else in the jail right now: Iida, the rickshaw taxi-man.
Unfortunately he's inside, you're outside, and the key is nowhere to be
found. What you need are some lockpicks, and if anyone would have
something like that, it would be the Konnouya item guy. Now, the quest-
ion is, how do we get back?
_________________________________________________________
Otherworld Fukagawa

Demons:
Ippon-datara (skill)  A strange, one-legged smith, with fire attacks
Mou Shabo (wind) Little miss angel. She absorbs electric attacks
Azumi (ice) Same old merman. He's a little underleveled for this area.
Tsuchigumo (volt) Big, bad, ugly- he might be trouble for you.

Items
(Note: almost all of these will be accessible in a little while. Just not at
this moment)
Volt Bullets x15
Regular Bullets x15
Reviver
Luck Incense (Red Crystal)
Magic Stone

Red Crystals can only be opened by demons.
_______________________________________________________

The road back to the bridge is blocked off by the redcoats, but there's
a portal back to Fukagawa. Take it.

Back in real-world Fukagawa, you'll find that there are more redcoats
currently blocking off the south side of town. What you need to do is
head back to Tsukudo first to get those lockpicks from the Konnouya.
Then head over to the Nameless Shrine to get sent back to the Other-
world Fukagawa.

When you arrive back, you'll find yourself near Daikoku's Heaven.
There's a couple of blue crystals near where the real-world exit would
be, and a healer on the bridge. Just past that is a red crystal. These can
only be opened by demons, so set your current buddy to solo action
to open it up.

The road leading back to Iida is blockaded by the redcoats still, so
you'll have to find a way around. Head by Iida's house, and hook left
into that alley. Talk to the demon there to find out that the redcoats
only really go after humans. They leave the local spirits alone.

Right nearby is the river, but no boat. There's a little dinghy upstream,
but it's not like you can fly over there, right? So pull out a demon that
can, probably either an Azumi or a Mou Shabo, and send them over
to retrieve it for you.

If you take the boat all the way upstream, you'll find an unguarded gate.
Too bad it's barred from the other side, and the path to it is blocked by
redcoats. But remember what the demon said. Go back down one stop
on your boat, and send your demon to undo the latch for you. After
they return, just go back up and open the gate yourself.

In this part of Fukagawa, there's a save point to your left, a Shikimi
Shadow up ahead, and a helpful little demon named Dr. Mokoi who's
an expert on the Shikimi, if you wish to learn more. In particular, if
you talk to him, you'll learn that this Shikimi Shadow is weak against
bullets.

Battle: Shikimi Shadow (bullets), Tsuchigumo x2
--Just run around the Tsuchigumo and shoot the shadow with regular
bullets until it dies. The other demons automatically die when the
shadow does.

Go to the next gate and unlock it. If you need to (and have the cash),
take advantage of the convenient healer nearby. Then head over to
where Iida is, and get him out of there.

Uh-oh, guards.

Boss Battle:  Crimson Guardsmen x2
--Remember these guys, from the beginning? They're not running
away this time. One will always try to get up close and personal with
his sword, but the other will stay back and pelt you with machine gun
fire. Keep moving until the gunner starts firing, then close in and hit
him (he can't change his firing angle). After he's out, hack and slash
the other guy to pieces. You'll probably need some healing items
before this is over, though. These guys hit hard. You get a couple of
Smokescreens for your trouble.

After you defeat the guards and free Iida, the rest of the redcoats
vanish from the area, so you're free to grab the various items left.
Iida has a request, though. He's worried about his sister Shizu, and
would like for you to find her if you can.

______________________________________________________
Fukagawa Items checklist:

Chakra Drop (use Inspect skill at the hole in the fence between the
small shrine and the back alley)
5 yen (use Item-finder in the small shrine)
Reviver
Karajishi Liquor
Old firewood (Item-finder in the back alley area)

While we're at it, here's the items that you can get at the Physics Lab
Just use Item-finder in the first part of the Lab to find all three:
Yaminade Liquor
Kyoto Cameo
part of the Mah-jongg set
______________________________________________________

Well, we need to find Shizu now, and who should we go to for a
person-finding job in this area?  The local mob boss. Go back to the
Daikoku bathhouse and talk to Satake to find out that Shizu's been
working as an entertainer at Playtown, on the other side of Fukagawa.
He'll send word that you're to be able to pass freely there, so the guard
who kept you out before will be gone.

_______________________________________________________
Senjuu Ward, Fukagawa Town, Playtown

The entertainment district, full of bars, clubs, and houses of negotiable
virtue. Just a single street, and a light of red lanterns

Demons:
Mokoi (pagan). You know from his laugh that he's a little perv.
Mou Shabo (wind) What's an angel kid doing HERE?
Raijuu (volt) Does a wolf really whistle?
Tsuchigumo (volt) Must be the bouncer.

Items:
Flame Liquor (on the ground)
Fire Bullets x15 (Item-finder)
Muscle Drink (on the city map, near Playtown)
_______________________________________________________

You'll find Shizu just inside Playtown. She's relieved to hear that her
brother is OK and worrying about her. She'll tell you a bit about the
mysterious red-caped man who's terrorizing taxi-men in Ginza. She's
concerned about her brother's safety, since he works that part of town
so often. She asks you to keep looking into the matter.

Return to the office and consult with your boss. He tells you that Tae
has some new info, and she's down at the New World Milk Hall now.

Stop by the milk hall, and get the info and 3000 yen from Tae. There
are stories of a strange ghost appearing under the full moon in Ginza
and there's a possible connection between it and the mysterious red-
caped man.

Stakeout time! When the moon is full, stand around the Ginza exit
leading to the Dragon Shrine ryotei. When the time is right, some-
thing -does- appear. An old jalopy, so beat-up that it's a surprise it
can move at all! At least, until you see that the driver is deader than
a doorknob, and the car itself starts talking to you...

Boss Battle:  Oboroguruma (aka Junk Car, Phantom Cab, etc.)
--A highly physical boss, this one. It's an volt-type demon, but
it really doesn't use spells much. It prefers to slam straight into its
targets. It doesn't like the cold, though, so bring out an ice demon.
It is unfortunately bullet-proof.  When you beat it, you get a Chakra
Chip, some Catnip, and a Rickshaw Spike (key item).

Take the Rickshaw Spike back to Shizu. She identifies it as belong-
ing to her brother, and fears the worst. She also notices that you
have an old amulet that was once her brother's. Give her the Ragged
Amulet. Iida took a lot of customers to the ryotei, she says, so it
might be a good idea to ask around there again.

At the Dragon Shrine ryotei, talk to the taxi-man at the entrance,
and to the proprietress, then leave. When you come back to Ginza,
you'll notice a very shocked police officer in the middle of the road.
Use Chill Out to calm him down, and he'll blurt out that he's seen
the red-caped man running the other way. From there, take the next
left (under the platform) to see the guy himself. It's definitely the
same sort of thing you encountered in the Daidouji house, but before
you can do anything, it runs off and disappears in a puff of smoke.
Looks like it's back to the Otherworld... Head over to the Nameless
Shrine again for some help getting there.

______________________________________________________
Otherworld Ginza

Demons:
Mokoi (pagan) Annoying little buggers, but useful
Ultros (fire) You should have one of these guys by now.
Poltergeist (wind) A bit weak at this stage, but bulletproof
Tuldak (fury) Skeletal warriors, and a good one to recruit now.
Zombie (undead) They're still trying to get you...

Items:
Wind Bullets x15
Blizzard Liquor
Chakra Drop
Healing Gem
Revive Incense
Venom Bullets x15
_________________________________________________

Remember the guy in Ginza who was furious about his broken down
car? At the same spot in the Otherworld, a Poltergeist is finding the
situation to be highly amusing. The various other inhabitants aren't
too much of a help, though the Oni did see the red-caped man go up
the stairs. Basically, he's right where you saw him disappear, only
one story higher up, on that metal platform surrounding the construct-
ion area. Corner him and fight!

.. that didn't last long. He ran away!  Get used to this. The red-caped
man does not want to be hurt, and runs away at every opportunity.
Follow him down the stairs and around the corner.  You'll find him
again as an encounter on the street. He'll run again. Chase him around
the block and under the platform. Confront him again, and he'll do
another runner. If you repeat this a few times, Gotou will advise you
to find a way of blocking him.

Note that the little Poltergeist ran off as soon as it saw the red-caped
man come its way. Now there's no one to stop you from messing with
that car... Use a fury demon to push it and block the pathway under
the platform. If you don't have a fury demon, catch a Tuldak, that's
what they're there for.

Follow the guy around the block again, and this time he'll be trapped
by the car. Another short fight, and he slips by you, but this time
he'll be waiting at the intersection, one screen away from where you
fought Oboroguruma. Take advantage of the well-placed healer, and
go get him.

Boss Battle: Red-Caped Man
--This one's a toughie. He has a Spawn-ish cape attack, but the thing
you need to worry about his that sonic beam of his. You get hit by
that, and you'll be hurting and stunned for a few seconds. He has no
elemental weaknesses, but when you get him down past 1/3 HP, he
starts using a close-in flame attack pretty frequently. When that starts,
pull out your Ultros (flameproof!) and keep slowing him with bullets
while your demon knocks large chunks out of him. Oh, did I mention
he can teleport as well? When he does, move fast, because that sonic
beam will be used within seconds of the teleport. When he's low on
HP he starts using a special healing item (a lunchbox) to recover
200+ HP at a time. When that happens, close in and keep lunging
until you and your demon manage to finish him off. Don't skimp on
the healing items. You get an Asuka Mirror when you win.

Once he's down, the dark spirits will be exorcised, and Iida-san will
be free of the strange curse. He'll be really shaken over the whole
affair, and only an intervention from Narumi, newly arrived with a
gift from Shizu, will help calm him down. (Yeah, and where was the
boss when a demon uber-mensch was kicking your tail? Yeah...)

As thanks for your help, Iida gives you two bottles of Karajishi
Liquor, and some more info. It seems he often took Master Dai-
douji to his company's factory, and that was where that -thing-
was first put in him. Whatever's going on, that factory is a major
part of it.

--End Chapter II--

------------------Chapter III: The Man with a Funny Accent-----------

New Things in This Chapter:
Konnouya now has the following items:
Stone Cure
Mind Cure (good for confusion and charm)
force bullets (fury-type, not too useful, usually)
Fire Bullet Magazine
Ice Bullet Magazine

Viktor:
Schmidt fusion is now available. Choose your strongest demon,
and fuse it with your sword to up Raidou's attack power, possibly
one of his base stats, and ALSO give him some elemental defense.

Nameless Shrine bonus dungeon is now open.

Extra: If you pick up the Cuff Button from the Daidouji house, and
have it with you at the end of the chapter, you'll get an volt bullet
magazine.

It's the next day now, and it's time to go check out the Daidouji tex-
tile factory. Narumi gives you your instructions, and warns you that
Tae has also gotten wind of something going on there, so she might
butt in.

When you get to the factory, the first thing you note is a walking
cane, dropped on the floor. Gotou asks you if you remember whose
it is. Correct answer is #3, Master Daidouji.

Walk a little farther in, and you meet Tae as she's coming out one
of the other doors. How embarrassing, caught in the act! She's
explaining herself when a set of dolls just appear out of nowhere,
floating in mid-air. There's a flash of light, and Tae crumples to the
ground.

A familiar, oddly accented voice cuts through the air. It's the same
guy you heard at the Daidouji house in the first chapter. He's sealed
the door to the storeroom with a strange magic, and the only way to
open it is by finding the three parts of the key, hidden in his magic
maze. Apparently all the factory employees are trapped in there as
well, so you'd better help them, too.

A set of six matroyshka dolls will appear. Each pair of dolls will
take you to a specific part of the maze. The maze itself is a five-by-
five grid of identical rooms, blocked off by Dragon Walls, demon-
only barricades, and Shikimi shadows. The edges of the maze wrap
around, so if you walk off the left edge, you end up on the right, etc.

Note: the maze disappears when the chapter is finished, so be sure
to grab all the items and level up as much as you'd like beforehand.

_____________________________________________________

In the maze, there are five Shikimi battles, guarding items or the
key stones. Remember, to find out what they're weak against, just
walk up to them and look at the location tag in the bottom right
corner of your screen. That will tell you.

FYI, I'm basing all this from the left-hand column of dolls. Since
the grid is 5 x 5, I'll try and include coordinates. Columns are
numbered left to right, and rows are top to bottom.

--Lower doll pair--

Shikimi battle 1
Ice Shikimi, two Oni
Location: Just left of where the first doll drops you off.
Column 2, Row 4

Shikimi battle 2
Fire Shikimi, two Jack Frost
Location: Just past the first Shikimi, and go down.
Column 1, Row 5
Get 5 Fire Bullets for winning.

Sub-boss battle 1 (just beyond Fire Shikimi)
Okikumushi x3
Watch out for the Charm spell. It only affects those caught within
the sphere of the spell, so use L1 to pull your demon away quickly
if necessary.
Get a Muscle Drink and two bottles of Yaminade Liquor for winning

After the sub-boss battle, you can pick up the first key stone.

Also in this section, there are three factory employees to rescue. You
have two options on what to say, and no penalties for getting it
wrong the first time. Just say the right thing, and they'll decide to
leave with you.

--Middle Doll Pair--

Just right of where the left-hand doll in the pair takes you, there's a
demon-only barrier. Humans can't pass it, but demons acting on their
own can. There's a Rakuyou Chalice behind it, which can be sold for a
lot of yen at the Konnouya.

After you get the treasure, head left, and you'll wrap around to the
other side of the maze. Talk to the demon if you want, then continue
left to find yourself face-to-face with one of the less fortunate people
employed by the factory.

Sub-boss battle:  Red-Caped Man
Yup, another poor soul snared by the red-caped curse. Beat him the
same way you beat Iida-san, though this battle seemed far easier
than the last one. You get a healing gem for beating him, and he'll
revert to normal and leave.

Near the exit is the next piece of the key, but when you try and get
it, there's another battle.

Sub-boss battle: Okikumushi, quite a few.
More of the centipede women!  And this time, giant versions of them
will be making an appearance as well. You can't capture any of the
demons in this battle, unfortunately. Again, use L1 to get your demon
out of the way of their Charm spell, and keep hitting them with fire
to win. After you get them all, you'll receive a medium healing item
and a bottle of Yaminade Liquor.

Pick up the key stone, and exit this part of the level.

--Upper doll pair--

If you start on the left side, you can go up to reach an area along the
bottom row of the maze for some Magic Incense but you'll have to beat
a wind-element Shikimi Shadow and some Oni to do so.
(row 1, column 2)

On the right hand side, row 2 column 5, is a Great Chakra guarded by
an volt Shikimi Shadow and two Lady Zombies.

Near that, row 1, column 4, is the last piece of the key, but it's guarded
by another Shikimi, and two Mokoi.  This one can only be destroyed
by bullets. Try and get the key, and...

Sub-battle: Okikumushi, at least 9
Another big centipede woman battle. They just keep coming! There
are maybe nine, maybe more demons in this battle, large and small
versions, but all sporting that annoying charm spell.

Kill 'em all, and move on. The exit's at row 1, column 3.

Now that you have all three pieces of the key, save and then examine
the glowing symbol that has the back door of the factory locked away.
Dispel the binding magic, and go inside.

Here, we find Master Daidouji again, and human this time. He's a bit
disoriented and mumbles quite a few things that make more sense in
context later.

Cue mildly disturbing cut-scene #2

After the scene, we get to meet the man with the outrageous accent
face-to-face. This saturnine fellow in a dark, vaguely religious-looking
smock introduces himself as Rasputin, the Dark Summoner. He goes
into a typical villainous monologue, but cuts himself short, grins, and
throws a matroyshka doll at you.  But, are the little faces on the nesting
dolls supposed to have fangs....?  Or levitate?  Or spew forth vile
demons?

Boss Battle:  Chernovog
--The dark god of Russia! Who looks like a mushroom here... This
will be something of an endurance battle.  Killing one Chernovog
isn't really so difficult with proper backup, but after the first one is
down, you get two more. After those two, you get -three- more. And
when you finally take out THOSE three, another two appear. It's
not until after you've defeated seven of these guys in all when the
real one appears, with a much larger, boss-style health bar. All
versions can attack with their sword, use Maha-bufu (close-in, ring
ice attack), a three-way shot ice spell, and a more annoying ice
attack that follows you around a bit, and slows you down if you get
hit.

After Chernovog is finally, for the eighth time, dead, you'll get a
scene with the employees talking to Master Daidouji (assuming
you rescue them all). Also, if you got the Cuff Button from Daidouji
house beforehand, you'll get a free volt bullet magazine, which
will save you a ton of cash. The employees will take Daidouji to
the hospital, and you can return to the office. Presumably, Tae
will be alright...

At the office, the chapter ends with a surprise visit from the Herald
of Yatagarasu, who normally never leaves her shrine. She fills in
some of the details about Rasputin, and outlines exactly why his
presence in the city is bad for the Empire.  Finding this guy and
neutralizing him is now your current mission as a Kuzunoha.
Good luck.

--end Chapter Three--

-----------------Chapter 4: Trouble at the Docks-------------------

New stuff:
Third level of the bonus dungeon is now unlocked.

The scene opens with Narumi talking on the phone. He's been trying
to get info on Rasputin's whereabouts for a while now, but has come
up with roughly nil. Not encouraging.

Then the Konnouya shopkeeper comes in. Normally he's loathe to step
away from his store for any reason, but he's come to ask for help. He's
been waiting for a certain cargo ship to come in for some time now, and
his stock has been suffering from that. He'd like you to look into it. In
the meantime, prices at the Konnouya will unfortunately be doubled,
and no new items will be available for a while.

Since the shipment was supposed to come in at Harumi Port, which is
also the foreigners' district, Narumi decides this is something worth
checking out.

The train will now take you to Harumi. It should be the fifth choice on
the train menu.

________________________________________________________
Koutou Ward, Harumi Port Town

This part of town is modern and bustling, like the neighboring Ginza.
Most of the buildings are Western, as are a large number of the locals.
Funny accents and odd clothing abound. There's a church on the other
side of the river, and on the south side of the port lies the naval head-
quarters.

Demons:
Leannan Sidhe (skill) Recruit at full moon, or fuse. Good healer.
Ghoul (pagan)  Undead, but still recruitable. Not my favorites, though
Suttee (fire) A beautiful Indian import, this girl's on fire. Literally.
Tuldak (fury) Same as before. Watch out for his muting attack.
Tsuchigumo (volt) Big, bad, and ugly.

Items:
Mind Cure
medium healing item
Muscle Drink
Repel Water

Item-finder:
Roman Silver Coin (dock near the naval headquarters)
Soma Drop (restaurant near main docks)
_______________________________________________________

Walk around, talk to people, laugh at the guy in top hat and tails trying
to hit on the local girl...  At the docks, north-east side of Harumi Port,
you'll find the proprietress of the Dragon Shrine ryotei. She's waiting
for the cargo ship as well. Talk to her a bit. She doesn't know anything
about Rasputin, but as for the shipment, the Harada Trading Company
was actually founded by her older brother, but he was lost at sea six
months ago. She's invested heavily in the company since then, out of
loyalty to his memory.

Well, nothing else here, so head back to the office and talk to the boss.
Narumi thinks that the two of you need to find out more about the
Harada Trading Company, and, much as he hates to admit it, the best
person to ask is Satake-san. Being a fairly lawful guy, Narumi doesn't
like it much, though.

Visit the Daikoku bathhouse in Fukagawa to talk to Satake. He tells
you that when Harada founded the company, he needed some help
with funding, and got it from a foreigner named Mr. Elfman. The prob-
lem being, Elfman wasn't exactly a legal resident of Japan, so Harada
had to keep him as a very silent partner. When Harada disappeared,
Elfman started acting very strangely. He still lives in Harumi Port.

Go back to the port town, and you'll find that the proprietress has
been joined by the Konnouya shopkeeper. They're discussing the
big shipment, when a sailor appears with bad news. The cargo
has literally vanished from the ship, and three sailors as well! The
man is almost hysterical, having seen them all disappear before
his very eyes!

You know what this means: Time to visit the Otherworld again..
Head back to Shinoda and the Nameless Shrine.

____________________________________________________
Otherworld Harumi Port Town

Demons:
Tuldak (fury) Same old, same old.
Oboroguruma (volt) Beep-beep! He's bulletproof!
Ghoul (pagan) Still dead, still ugly. But useful if you need telepathy.
Suttee (fire) The fiery Hindi miss is still firing away.
Anzu (wind) A Babylonian lion-bird demon. Has a binding attack.
Mokoi (pagan) Not as useful now, but still funny.
Leannan Sidhe (skill) Useful if you can fuse her into being.
Jack Frost (ice)  Hi-ho!
Lamia (fury) A real snake-Charmer. Watch out.

Binding attack: Both Anzu and Suttee (and Chernovog, last chapter)
have binding attacks. These are single-shot elemental attacks that
home in on the target, and bind their legs, making it harder for them
to move around. Just an FYI.

Items:
Behind the demon-only barrier:
Rakuyo Chalice
Asuka Mirror
medium healing item

On the ground:
Stone Cure x2

Rewards (from the sailors, use Mind Read)
Kyoto Cameo
Reviver
small healing medicine
_______________________________________________________

As soon as you enter the level, you'll see a man in trouble. Rescue
him.

Set battle: Anzu, times a few
The lion-birds attack! It shouldn't take much to kill all of them, and
when you do, interrogate their victim. Use Mind-Read to ensure
that you get a reward (Kyoto Cameo). You also get 3 bottles of
Storm Liquor from the battle.

Explore the rest of the north part of town to get some more items.
The area where you can see the church has a demon-only barrier
with items behind it.

Go to the naval headquarters to find the next hapless sailor. Here
we go again!

Set battle: Anzu, times many.
Same as before. Hack, slash, repeat. There are three waves of three
to beat here. Again, you get three bottles of Storm Liquor for your
trouble.

Mind Read the sailor afterwards to get a reviver. Check the small
pier near the naval headquarters to get some more items.

Head back to the ladder, go down, and examine the water. You and
Gotou discuss possibly using a flying demon to see what's beyond,
but then you see the Anzu flying nearby. Simply sending a demon
will not do. You need to go in personally. But how will you cross
the water?

If you don't have a Jack Frost now, then get one. You'll need their
Cool Down ability to freeze the water in the lock, and get to that guy
before he becomes bird food.

Set battle: Anzu, times a lot
And they just keep coming! Whack, hack, slash, stab, repeat. You
get three MORE bottles of Storm Liquor for this.

Mind Read the sailor for your reward: a small healing potion. Thanks,
really.. No, it was nothing....

Head back up to the north side of the port, near the church. Stop by
the healer on the pier if you need to. In the middle of the road,
you'll find another matroyshka doll...

Boss Battle: Trigraf, x2
These guys can be nasty, watch out. They have a special attack where
they throw their swords about ten feet in front of them. Try to attack
them from behind. They also have a petrify attack which is more
dangerous. In this game, every time you hit a petrified enemy, there's
the chance that they'll crumble into dust, which makes this the next-
best thing to an instant death attack.

After you beat them, the three sailors will be sent back. Return to the
real world yourself, and talk to the proprietress. She's happy that the
shipment has been safely returned. Ask her about Elfman, and she
doesn't have much to add. He used to be a good friend of her brother's,
and herself as well, but she hasn't seen him in months. The only
thing she has to remember him by is an old ring with a green stone.
She'll loan it to you for now.

She also says that Elfman used to spend a lot of time at the church,
on the other side of the river, but that the only way there is by boat.
You'll need something to carry you across.

Gotou will ask you if you're thinking what he's thinking. What he's
thinking is, the Great Tarask is good at carrying things. You should
go see what the old monkey-turtle is doing these days...

If you stop by the Konnouya now, the prices are back to normal, and
he's now selling Muscle Drinks.

So, back to the Daidouji house, and down into the basement we go!
Tuldaks now appear in random battles down there, but otherwise
not much has changed. Talk to the big guy, and explain things to
him. You'll have to haggle over it, though.

This next part is a kind of play on the negotiation system found in
many of the other SMT games. Basically, keep agreeing to pay him
however much yen he wants, until he asks for 1000 yen a second
time. Then he'll get angry, but stand your ground, and he'll calm
down and apologize. Then you'll get a flute which you can use to
call him whenever you're near water.

At this point, you can talk to Great Tarask and have him take you
to his secret island underground. You can also find most of the fol-
lowing items on the city map:

Catnip
Masamune Liquor
Constitution Incense
healing gem
Soma
and one or two others I forgot to write down.

The North Quarter and East Quarter bonus dungeons are also avail-
able. These are small, one-floor dungeons that only your demons
can access. The North Quarter dungeon is in the small lake near
the Daidouji textile factory, and the East Quarter dungeon is on a
peninsula to the east of Ginza, south-east of the physics lab.

Now, back to the story!

Just south of Ginza is the church and foreigners cemetery. You can
only access it by water, and it doesn't really matter where you get in.
You can follow the river all the way from Tsukudo Town, if you like.

When you get to the church, check inside. There's nobody there.
Leave and go down to the far end of the road to find the cemetery.
Here, there's something interesting: a restless ghost, just floating
over one of the graves. When you try to communicate with it, it only
points to the ground, where a bare skull has recently been unearthed.

Touch the skull, and the spirit can speak to you, if haltingly. At first
it doesn't make much sense, but show it the ring you got from the
proprietress, and that prompts a bit more. This skull, and the ghost,
used to be Mr. Elfman. He was killed months ago, and someone took
his place.

Honestly, there's only one possible suspect here.

Since Elfman's been seen at the church fairly recently, certainly
after he was already dead, it's safe to assume that's where Rasputin
might be found. Head back.

The church still looks empty, but this time, Gotou thinks he can hear
someone talking. Strange... Go to the left, and check out the confess-
ional. The man with the funny accent is having a conversation with
someone, but who? There can't be a telephone in there..

The voice goes quiet, and you quickly open the curtains to the con-
fessional, but it's empty. But Rasputin had definitely been in there
just a moment before. So, by all the rules of melodrama and suspense,
that means that he's right...

Yup, behind you, lounging on a pew, and making snide remarks about
your investigative skills. When he's said his piece, he'll clear away
those cumbersome pews and give the two of you some space to play
around in..

Boss Battle: the Mad Monk, Rasputin!
Rasputin loves to play around, hence the matryoshka roulette game
he plays at the very start of the battle. Each doll takes three or four
hits to completely reduce to pieces, and Rasputin is hiding in one of
them. Doesn't take too long to reveal him, but that's where the real
battle begins. He'll start summoning small death's head dolls which
back up a ways from the fighting, then try to hit you with energy
beams, but those are easy to take out, if you move fast. When he's
around 2/3 health, Rasputin also starts playing fast and loose with a
little spell called Megido. Thankfully, there's a little time between
the start of the spell animation, and the actual detonation, so you
might be able to get outside the blast radius in time. Finally, when
he's pretty low on health, he starts summoning reapers, which can
hit you for a lot of damage, stun you, and leave you open to his basic
ice spells.  He is, however, weak against lightning, and electric
attacks will stun him for a few seconds.

When you defeat him, there's some pyrotechnics, and he collapses
to the ground. If you hadn't noticed earlier during the battle, he bleeds
black, not red. Upon closer examination, this proves to be because
he is, in fact, another doll. Was this really Rasputin, or just another
of his tricks? Only time will tell.

Back at the office, Narumi makes some commentary on the case, and
then the chapter comes to an end.

--End Chapter Four--

------------------Chapter 5: General Chaos--------------

New stuff in this chapter:
Fourth level of the bonus dungeon is now unlocked

At the Konnouya:
Stronger bullets (non-elemental, damage only, stronger than regulars)
Curse Bullets (pagan-element, curse status)
Venom Bullets (poison status)
Volt bullet magazine (holds 99 volt bullets)
Wind bullet magazine (holds 99 wind bullets)
Force bullet magazine (holds 99 force bullets)
Mansaku Liquor

This chapter, like any good detective story, starts with a dame. In
other words, Tae returns to mess with Narumi's mind, and to ask a
favor. It seems that she's got a meeting with an informant at the army
headquarters, but she's a little hesitant to go out there without backup.
Narumi finally appoints Raidou to be her official bodyguard just to
shut her up. Besides, you two have your own reasons to check out the
army.

Added: Kasumidai Station.
From Kasumidai, you can also access the South and West Quarter
Shrines, but you can't do anything in them yet.

______________________________________________________
Akasaka Ward, Kasumidai Military Base
This place is just crawling with military types! Just who is Tae
supposed to be meeting here?

Demons:
Hou-ou (wind) The legendary bird!  Not a Pokemon!
Suttee (fire) The burning beauty is back. Remember, no bullets.
Shubokko (ice) A strange, walking tree..
Leannan Sidhe (skill) The elf lady returneth.
Zombie (undead) Wish this guy wouldn't, though.
Lady Zombie (undead) This lady, too.
Nekomata (skill) Watch out for this kitty's claws.

Items:
City Map, near the West Quarter Shrine:
Great Chakra
Magic Incense

On the base:
Constitution Incense,
Smokescreen,
Stone Cure,
Gouriki Liquor
Chakra Pot (on the east side, examine the small hole with a demon)
Strong Bullets (Item-finder, area near barricade)
Persian Porcelain (Item-finder, at guard-post near main gate)
______________________________________________________

When you leave the office, Narumi and Tae do as well. Narumi will
be standing over by the Konnouya for much of this chapter. Both
of them recommend you check out the store's stock and resupply.

At the base, Tae waltzes over to the fountain near the entrance, and
asks you to look for her informant. She'll give you a basic description.
Go right, and you'll hear two guys talking about another man who
fits that description. Go farther in, and you can ask one of the soldiers
standing around for more information. You can't go farther in this way,
though. There's a guard blocking the way.

Go towards the west side of the base, past the cannon, and talk to the
men by that gate. There, you learn that shift changes and lunch hour
are announced by means of that cannon you saw. Hmm.. Use a fire
demon to light the fuse, and BOOM. The soldier who was guarding
the other way will leave for his break, and you can go farther in.

Talk to the man near the eastern gate to get more info. After that,
return to where Tae was. And where she is NOT, at the moment.
Her camera is there, however, which is really strange, since Tae
valued that piece of equipment more than her life.

Take the camera, and head back to Tsukudo. Narumi's still outside
admiring the river, so talk to him there. He suggests you ask the
Konnouya store owner to have the film developed for you.

The store owner will charge you 3000 yen for the job, but it was
worth it. The result: a clear picture of Tae and a soldier who must
be her informant, standing in the square. But there's something
odd about the background. Looks like the Otherworld!

You know where to go...

___________________________________________________
Otherworld Kasumidai

Demons:
Nekomata (skill)  Mrow! Bad Kitty!
Shubokko (ice)  Are trees supposed to have eyes?
Lady Zombie (undead) Everywhere, I tell you...
Utaigaikotsu (pagan) An evil flying skull. Curses hit for 1/2 HP!
Alp (pagan) Er, what's this doing here?
Lamia (fury) Whip that tail!
Mou Shabo (wind) Little angel girl is out of her league, here.
Zombie Soldier (undead) Zombies with guns... oh boy..
Oboroguruma (volt)  BEEP BEEP!
Hou-oh (wind) Giant chicken alert!

Items:
medium healing item
Java Carving
Life Gem (in front of barricade)
Blizzard Liquor (red crystal)
Flame Liquor (red crystal)
___________________________________________________

Upon arriving in the Otherworld Kasumidai, the first thing you
see is a soldier, apparently the same one as in the photograph.
Three zombies approach him, and he needs help!

Set Battle: Zombie Soldiers x3
--These zombies hit harder, but they're still wusses when the heat
is on. Flame 'em. You get one Repel Water, and two Attract Waters
for beating them.

The soldier, once he calms down, tells you that his name is
Sadayoshi, and that he was supposed to have a meeting with Tae
to give her some important information. But then the two of them
were pulled here, wherever here is, and those things.. they weren't
human, were they??  He's taking things quite well, actually...

Sadayoshi had a bunch of notes he'd made, but they're gone
now. They were really important, so could you...

Fetch quest time, bleh. First, go left, and talk to the pair of zombie
soldiers. You can ask them for clues to the locations of the eight pages
of notebook which you have to find.

So, the locations of the eight:
You'll need Item-finder for almost all of these.
You do not need to find them in order

#1 Near the cannon

#2 Near the Jack Frost

#3 Down the path from the two zombies, near the intersection

#4 Near the main gates to the base (right of Jack Frost)

#5 In the small hole near the flaming tiger. You'll need the Inspect
skill in order to fit inside and get the paper. If you don't have a
demon capable of this, go back to Viktor's and buy a Raijuu from
him.

#6 Behind the barricade on the west side, behind the statue.

#7 Up in a tree on the north-east side of the area

#8 Ask the zombie dudes about this one, then use Cool Down when
their argument gets too heated. Then go talk to the Liana Sidhe on the
east side. After that, you should be able to get into a random battle with
6 Zombie Soldiers. The eighth piece of the report is the reward for that
battle.

Once you have all eight pieces, go back and talk to Sadayoshi. Be sure
to heal up first.

With his notes returned to him, Sadayoshi spins a grim tale of military
horror, with General Munakata literally creating his own cadre of
super-soldiers. While he was spying on the General, Sadayoshi saw
many strange things, but one of the things he remembers most was a
young girl. Strange thing to see in a military compound, y'know?

Show him the picture of Kaya, and he'll confirm that it was her that
he saw. He tells you that the entrance to the secret base is on a small
island in the east, through a telephone booth.

Before anything else can be said, a demon comes to collect the spy's
soul.

Boss Battle:  Nebiroth, Zombie Soldier x2
--This is one of those annoying boss battles that only the MegaTen
games ever seem to come up with. Namely, this boss is IMMUNE
to physical damage. Elemental attacks are okay, but what really
hits it hard is wind attacks. However, if you don't have a wind demon
or a lot of wind bullets, then be prepared for a bumpy battle..
You get a Life Gem for winning.

After the battle, you're automatically returned to the real world, and
Sadayoshi will give you the combination to the secret passage that
leads to Munakata's base: 49399221.

Time for some infiltration. Take the train to whichever station you
want, since Tsukudo, Ginza, and Harumi stations all have water
access nearby, and head to the little island out in the middle of Edo
Harbor. If you went there before, you might have remarked on the
strange sight of a telephone booth out in the middle of nowhere.
Now you know why it exists. Enter in the code number, and the
cliché phone booth elevator will take you down into the secret
military base.

_____________________________________________________
Munakata's Secret Base

Demons:
Mou Shabo (wind) Incredibly weak by this point in the game.
Yomotsuikusa (fury) Very strong fighters, weak against volt
Nekomata (skill) The fur flies again.
Zombie Officer (undead) Stronger than the Zombie Soldiers.
Hou-ou (wind) They can use fire attacks as well..
Utaigaikotsu (pagan) Watch out for the stone attack.

Items:
Strong bullets (behind first Shikimi)
Reviver (down near Ippon-datara)

(up the ladder after third Shikimi):
Chakra Drop
Storm Liquor
Reviver (red crystal)

(bottom level)
Magic Incense (red crystal)
Reviver (red crystal)
Return Incense
Roman Silver Coin
Magic Stone
____________________________________________________

This level is very simple. Just head straight down, taking out the
various Shikimi which are blocking the way.

Shikimi 1, left of the entrance.
Fire Shikimi, with two Nekomata.

Shikimi 2, second level down
Ice Shikimi, with two Yomotsuikusa

Shikimi 3, third level down
Volt Shikimi, with two Zombie Officers

This third one is tricky, because once you beat it, it doesn't stay
down. There's someone or something keeping it empowered, and
until you deal with that person, it'll keep staying up. Go down one
more level, and talk to the Ippon-datara. It crafted that Shikimi,
and you'll have to negotiate in order to take it down. Give him
everything he wants, and then choose the top option for his question.

Go up the ladder to get three items, then down the other ladder to
reach the docks. Grab the two red crystal items, then face the next
three Shikimi.

Shikimi 4
Bullet Shikimi, with two Ippon-datara

Shikimi 5
Bullet Shikimi, with two Utaigaikotsu

Shikimi 6
Bullet Shikimi, with two Hou-ou

Go on and use that healer if you need it, save at the nearby save-
spot, then go up the stairs. You'll see someone farther up on the
platform, but first head right to grab three more items. Then continue
up.

You see three zombies holding the straps binding young Kaya
Daidouji. As you watch, the cotton bindings turn red with blood. An
older man in a military uniform watches on impassively. This is the
great general Munakata, head of the armies, and, as he so eloquently
puts it, on a search for a means to increase the Imperial power. He
believes that under the Taisho Emperor, Japan has grown weak and
decadent, and it is his duty to the country to make it stronger, capable
of facing down its opponents in the global arena. To that end, he is
creating his army of super-soldiers. Villainous monologue finished,
he walks away, leaving you with two of his own demons to fight.

Boss Battle: Abihiko and Nagasunehiko
Abihiko has a fire attack, and is weak against ice. Nagasunehiko has
an ice attack, but is immune to fire. They both have bow-based
energy attacks, and every once in a while they'll do a super-twin
spinning attack which travels across the entire playing field. It's
best to just send your demon away when this is going on, else you'll
both take too much damage.  When either of the two brothers is
eliminated, the other will gain a power up, and a boss's health bar.
That one can now use all the attacks of either brother, but that
annoying wonder-twin attack is no longer available. Keep whacking
and it will die soon enough.

Congratulations, you've completed the first primary quest of the
game, namely rescuing Miss Kaya Daidouji. Take her back to the
office.  But why is the General so happy with just a bloody cloth?

Narumi has some questions for the young lady, and she answers
fairly readily. It all comes down to the family curse. Girls of the
family are thought to contain the Devil's blood, and are supposed
to be killed by or before their sixteenth birthday. General Munakata
offered a possible alternative, perhaps even a cure, but in the end
cheated the Daidouji family and used her for his own research.
Now, she's on the run from him, and she can't even return home,
for fear that her own father will have her murdered to ward off
the supposed curse in her blood. Chivalrously, Narumi offers her
the use of the extra room in the office. Looks like you'll have
company for a while...

-------------------Chapter Six: Who's That Girl?-----------

New stuff this chapter:
Fifth level of the bonus dungeon is now unlocked.

At the Konnouya:
Sleep Bullets
Curse Bullet magazine
Venom Bullet magazine

The scene opens in your office. Narumi is out doing some actual
investigating of his own, so when the phone rings, you have to
answer. It seems that the Konnouya shopkeeper has a special package
for Narumi, but if he's out, you can go pick it up.

At the Konnouya, the shopkeeper will give you a box of gunpowder.
Special order, for Narumi. As you walk back to the office, there's
a short cut-scene, with scissors. When you get back, you'll find hair
all over the floor and table. Kaya has decided to do a bit of styling,
all the better to make it harder for the bad guys to recognize her.
She's a bit self-conscious about it, so be nice.

The two of you get to talking a bit more, and she even wheedles
your real name out of you. She'll also tell a story she heard from
Munakata, about a strange crystal ball with magic properties. Her
interest in such things has been piqued, ever since her life started
revolving around the occult, and if Munakata's so interested in it,
best that we get it ourselves, right?

So, the next day, the two of you get to go on a treasure hunt.
You can usually see Kaya on the screen wherever you visit, so be
sure to talk to her to get her perspective on things. First, you should
visit the Konnouya, since the owner knows more about treasure
than anyone else you can think of.

The Konnouya guy has plenty of crystals, sure, but none that are
particularly magical. For that sort of thing, he says, you need to
talk to Viktor.

Viktor knows something of the subject, and lists off a number
of name variations on the same legend. Kaya recognizes one of
them, but Viktor can't really tell us more. You'll need to talk to
someone with more local info...

Go to Fukagawa, and talk to Satake. He's not too big on old fairy
tales, but he suggests you talk to the Doc at the physics lab on the
south side of Fukagawa. He might know something.

At the physics lab, head over to the right screen to meet a new
face, Doctor Ninety-Nine (Kyuu-juu-kyuu Hakase). Finally,
someone who knows something about the legends! According
to him, the item we're looking for was in a shrine somewhere
in Ginza. We'll have to go there for more info.

We need more information, so head to the Milk Hall in Ginza.
Tae is there already, having a glass, and she'll kid you a bit
for going out on a “dateâ€￾ with Kaya, but she does have a little
more info. Apparently the shrine we're looking for was destroyed
years ago, but they're erecting a new building on the same site.
If the ball's still there, you'll have to search a bit.

Go to Ginza now. Kaya will be in the same area where you fought
the Red-caped Man, and she's getting a little impatient now. The
entrance to the construction site is on that screen, just look for
the entrance on the left-hand side.  You and Kaya search through
the rubble for a while before you come upon an old Jizou statue
with a blue crystal in its hand. This must be the crystal ball! ...
or as Kaya is suddenly calling it, the EL200. Huh?

Something's odd here...  Kaya's still talking, and she's getting
quite passionate about it. In the end, she grabs the crystal and
vanishes into the Otherworld.

So, just who WAS that girl, anyway?  Did you ever really know...?

---End Chapter Six (Short, ain't it?)---

==============EXTRAS SECTION============

--------------------Special Demons---------------------

Yoshitsune, level 36:
Talk to the blonde rumormonger at the Milk Hall to hear about
the brave warrior who once faced down the armies of Genghis
Khan. He'll appear as a set battle on the fourth floor of the
Training Hall. Defeat him, and you'll be able to get him later
through fusing a Utaigaikotsu with a Ohkuninushi.

Kudan, level 51:
This mysterious, human-faced heifer starts appearing in Chapter
7,bringing dire predictions of doom and gloom wherever you
meet her.  She even shows up to warn you about the Night of the
Hundred Demons, down in the Training Hall. To get her for your-
self, you'll have to defeat her at least once in battle, but that's not
so easy. She absorbs bullets, has a really high resistance to physical
damage, and regularly heals herself for almost full HP. And she'll
run away after a while, too.  Bring in a demon with a sword combo
attack, and whack at Kudan until the tension gauge is at max. Let
loose with the combo attack, and that SHOULD be enough to kill
her.  To get her through fusion, combine an Nebiroth with either a
Gashadokuro or an Incubus. You get a Book of Prophecies when
you defeat her.

Alice, level 32:
A blonde girl in a blue pinafore.  She'll be available in Chapter 8
First, you'll need to talk to the blonde rumormonger about the
telephone rumors.  Find the telephone in Tsukudo Town, and
whistle in it to trigger a scene with a Belial. Then go to the
telephone left of the entrance to Harumi Port Town to trigger
another scene with a Nebilim. After that, head to Ginza and use
the telephone on the street, to the right of the main entrance, and
deal with the Belial and Nebilim together.  Finally, you get to
fight Alice, along with two Shubokko and two Obalyon. You
get a Staff of Death for winning the battle, and can now fuse
your own Alice into being, using a Naga-rajah and a Jack Frost,
but effects may be slightly random.

Beelzebub, level 80:
In order to get this demon, you will have to get the following
items: Devil's Skull, Demon Egg of the Hegemon, and the Crest
of Hell.  See the info on the Night of the 100 Demons (Training
Hall, floors 5, 7, and 9 for more info). In order to face Beelzebub,
you also need to have access to the bottom floor of the Training
Hall, which is only unlocked when you save at the last possible
save-spot in the final level. In battle, Beelzebub is joined by an
Ukobaku and a Nebiroth, and you'll get some Soma, a Gold Mask
of Giza, and a Babylonian Lithograph for winning.
In order to get Beelzebub as an ally, you'll need to fuse a Yamata-
no-Orochi and an Arahabaki.

Raihou-kun! level 23
This little character is only available on a new game plus file.
More on this when I figure it all out for myself. There's a
casefile involved, and an event at the Konnouya, that's all I
know.

-------------------Bug-Catching-----------------

This side-quest is available in the first chapter after you have
found the special items in Tsukudo (Ice Cream, Syrup, and Tofu).
Give the Tofu to Inari, the fox statue, and then place one of the
sweets on the large tree at the shrine. Come back during the full
moon to find an insect there. If you use the Ice Cream, you'll find
a Helmet Beetle, while if you use the syrup, you'll find a Stag
Beetle. You can trade them to the Agacion in Otherworld Tsukudo
for Java Carving or a Roman Silver Coin, respectively.

--------------------Mah-Jongg-----------------

Sorry, there is no Mah-jongg in the American version. If you're
curious, the four pieces of the Mah-jongg set can be found in the
East Quarter Shrine, the physics lab, one of the back rooms of the
Daidouji Factory, and the last is in Harumi Port Town, after chapter
4.You have to go into the Otherworld and defeat a Hiruko in order
to get that one.  Return to the office to enable the Mah-jongg mini-
game.

------------------- Training Hall------------------

Near the entrance to the Nameless Shrine is a small basin for
washing your hands. At any time after the second chapter, if
you examine this basin, you will be able to enter the bonus
dungeon. You can only access the first two floors at first, but
another level is unlocked every chapter or so after that.

Each floor is an identical three-by-three room area. The center
is always a safe spot (no encounters), and is where the elevator
between floors is located.

have heard about the famous warrior who took on Genghis Khan's
armies. In the middle-north part of this floor, you have a chance to
meet this warrior.

Optional Boss battle: Yoshitsune, Kuramatengu, Oni
Yoshitsune is a fury-type demon, and does not have any weakpoints.
The Oni and the Tengu, on the other hand, are both weak against
electric attacks, so use that to your advantage. You get a Life Gem
for winning the battle, and Yoshitsune will be unlocked as a possible
demon fusion.

To get Yoshitsune, fuse a Utaigaikotsu and an Ohkuninushi.

---Fifth floor, unlocked in chapter 6
Demons:
Zombie Soldier, Hou-ou, Nekomata, Shubokko, Utaigaikotsu
Zombie Officer, Yomotsuikusa

Special:
The Night of the 100 Demons, part 1
This is a special marathon battle, which occurs in the south-east
corner of this floor. There are three types of demons involved, and
they just keep coming.... Here, the demons you have to fight are
Shubokko, Ippon-datara, and Oni.  It is recommended that you
bring along a good healing demon to back you up.

You get the Devil's Skull if you survive.

Soma Droplet
(red crystal)

Special event:
Night of the 100 Demons, part 2
This time, be in the south-west part of the floor during the new
moon to trigger this marathon battle. You'll be up against a horde
of Nue, Nekomata, and Utaigaikotsu. Considering how many
status spells are going to be flying all over the place, it's a good
idea to bring along a demon with the healing spell.

For surviving, you get the Demon Egg of the Hegemon. If anyone
knows the real English translation for this item's name, please
tell me...

---Eight floor, unlocked in chapter 10
Demons:
Sorone, Dun, Parvati, Tsuchigumo, Tarask, Ghoul, Gashadokuro,
Sati, Nekomata, Sukaha, Shouten

Items:
Magic Incense
Stone Bullets x10
Life Gem

Cerberus, Sukaha, Parvati, Tuldak

Special event:
Night of the 10 Demons, part 3
This time, you need to be in the north-east part of the floor,
during the full moon.  The demons making their appearance
this time are Obalyon, Gashadokuro, and Yomotsuikusa.
Two of the three are weak against wind attacks, so keep that
in mind.

If you survive, you'll receive the Crest of Hell.

---Lowest level of the Training Hall.
This level is only unlocked after you make a save at the last
possible save-spot in the final level.

Items:
Luck Incense x3
Soma
Gold Mask of Giza
(red crystal)

Special Event:
Battle with Beelzebub, Ukobaku, and Nebiroth
To trigger this event, you'll need to get the three items from the
Night of the 100 Demons on the fifth, seventh, and ninth floors.
Beelzebub is extremely powerful, and is able to wield the super-
spell Megido. His two helpers are powered-up versions as well.
If you beat them, you'll get some Soma, a Gold Mask of Giza, and
a Babylonian Lithograph

---------------The Four Quarter Shrines----------

These four shrines lie at the four cardinal points on the edges of
Edo city proper.  They are for demons only. Raidou may stay in
the safe area at the center, but his demon helpers are the ones
who must venture farther in to find the treasures. All eight items
in here are red crystals, so you'll need a demon with the Right-
hand Man skill, like Jack Frost or Thoth, to get the most out of
them.

---North Quarter Shrine, available Chapter 4
This shrine sits in a lake near the Daidouji textile factory.
Demons:
Alp, Oni, Leannan Sidhe, Oboroguruma, Okikumushi, Lamia

---East Quarter Shrine, available Chapter 4
This shrine is south of Fukagawa and east of Ginza, on its
own little peninsula.
Demons:
Oni, Lady Zombie, Alp, Lamia, Okikumushi, Oboroguruma

Special Event: Zombie Trio
There's a special set battle with a Ghoul, a Zombie, and a Zombie
Officer. A very easy battle for a fire demon, and even a cakewalk
for a level 10 Poltergeist. In the Japanese version of the game, this
is where you got one of the pieces of the Mah-jongg set, but I don't
know what you might get in the American version.

--West Quarter Shrine
This shrine is in the northwest corner of the city map, west of the
Daidouji house. You can get here as early as Chapter 5, but you
cannot actually enter the shrine until Chapter 7.
Demons:
Zombie, Dun, Yomotsuikusa, Nue

--South Quarter Shrine
This shrine is southwest of Kasumidai Military Base. You can get
there are early as Chapter five, but you can't actually go in until
Chapter 9.
Demons:
Parvati, Gashadokuro, Rakshasa
