Ohayo minna-san, I am Ayashii. This idea come to me out of nowhere and has
snowballed. This is the first FAQ I’ve created so any errors please email me
at [email protected].
The Phantasy Star series is not mine and never will be, I’m just helping those
whom are playing it.
Note: This is meant to be used with the game Phantasy Star IV to provide
insight and explanation to specific features of this game. This is not a
walkthrough. Also for the sake of functionality and space, all levels over 45
will be in the epic level portion.

I. The Characters.
There are eleven playable characters in this game, each can use different
weapons, wear different armor, and cast different techs and skills.
01. Chaz Ashley (Rudy)
age: 16 profession: hunter
race: human gender: male
Chaz was a child of the streets, headed for a rough future until the hunter
Alys Brangwin took him under her wing. Chaz is a first rate swordsman with a
quick temper and a keen eye. He is also the ‘hero’ of this game. Chaz can
use daggers, knives and swords and can wear helms, shields and mail.

Alys's prowess as a hunter has made her famous throughout Motavia. Not much is
known about her past, but bits of it seem to keep popping up at odd moments...
much to her embarrassment. She is most proficient with thrown weapons such as
boomerangs and slashers. She also can wear crowns, shields and mail but, NEVER
let her touch a shield, two slashers are much better.
*Note: before the battle with Zio in Zio’s Fort, unequip her of everything.

Hahn hails from the village of Krup and is the son of an armorer. Bored with
the monotonous work of forging weapons and determined to make his mark in the
world, he greatly upset his father by going off to study at Motavia Academy.
While physical fighting is not one of his specialties, Hahn has a wide range of
Techniques to rely. He can only use daggers and knives and can wear circlets,
suits and shields.

Rune is an old friend of Alys, though how they first met remains a mystery.
How Alys managed to put up with him is a bigger mystery still. He's powerful
and arrogant, and wields a type of power rarely seen on Motavia anymore : true

Gryz lives to avenge his parents, who were killed when the dark wizard Zio
destroyed the village of Molcum. The only other surviving member of his family
is his little sister, who remains in the village of Tonoe. Gryz relies on brute
strength and his skill with the axe. Gryz can only use axes and can wear mail
and helms.

Rika is a biological construction created by one of the last functioning
computers on Motavia. Though she may be a little naive (a lifetime spent inside
an underground computer complex doesn't offer much by the way of life
experience), she's a good warrior to have on your side in a scrap. Her favorite
weapon is the Claw. She can wear suit, mail and crowns and can use claws.

This section is dedicated to my ramblings, comments and rants about Phantasy
Star IV and the series in general.
01. Geographical
- If the 1st planet in the Algo system is Parma and it is a temperate world,
why is Motovia a desert?
- Also, why are there more Parmans on Motovia than Motovians, even before the
‘Great Collapse’?
- What ever happened to Shure and the Crevace?
- Also, where did the hidden castles with the Nei items go? Even with the
aeroprism you can’t find them.
- If Rykros comes around every 1000 year to warn the system of danger, why
isn’t it there in PSI & PSII?
- What ever happened to Motovia’s ClimControl and the dam systems?
- Along that line, why is the biosystem labs in Zema instead of NW of it? I
didn’t think it could move.
- Is it just me or did the whole Motovian landmass change?
- Also, if the town of Termi was visited by Alis Landale, then why wasn’t it
in PSII?
- How exactly does Motovia manage to change in climate (from desert to
temperate to desert) from game to game?
- Where did the control satellites Kuran and Zelan come from? To my knowledge
they weren’t there in PSII and, if they weren’t there when Parma blew, someone
else must have put them there. But, the Motovians and Dezolians couldn’t have
so, who did?
02. People and items
- If the Nei items were found/used last AFTER Parma blew, how did they get to
the Alisa II in PSIII and where did they go afterwards?
- Along that line, what is the Elysdeon? Is it actually the Nei Sword?
- Also the aeroprism originally was on Dezolis with Lutz then with Rolf & co.
so, how did it get to Soldier’s Temple on Motovia?
- Remember how in PSII you needed the Magic and Mogic Caps to talk to the musk
cats and Dezolians, why don’t you now?
- Why do all the Espers have either blue/green or yellow/orange hair?
- When you meet Lasshiec in PSIV he says that the 1st generation Lutz defeated
him before but, doesn’t he mean Noah? SOA goofed again!
- How did Rune get to Motovia in the first place. He obviously was at the
Esper Mansion on Dezolis. The space ships weren’t avalible and he couldn’t
have Ryuka-ed his butt there so, how did he do it?
- Also, if Rika was the continuation of the Nei project, how did it get
completed. Didn’t Motherbrain run the project and you’d have to assume that
why it died that its projects would too.
- Also, who created Demi and Wren? They both were created after the ‘Great
Collapse’. Now I could see if Wren created Demi but, that leaves the question
of who created Wren?
- Where and how did Zio find Dark Force?
- Also, how was Dark Force in three places at once?
03. Misc
- What gender is the Profound Darkness? Male, female or ‘best of both
worlds’?
- Am I the only one that noticed that the Profound Darkness was characterized
and quasi-female while the Great Light is quasi-male?
- Why do the musk cats now look like squirrels?
- In all Phantasy Star games there is always a claw-wielding girl in a skimpy
bodysuit that was machine or man-made.
- Zio looks like an evil Fujimiya Ran that stole Akahoshi Rezo’s vestiments
and dyed them black.
