I. Introduction
============================================================================
Hi, welcome to my second FAQ. It is for a game that has good graphics, a game
where you have to rely on stealth rather than rushing in with guns blazing, a
game where you must avoid guards, dogs, and guards with riot shields to
survive, no, I'm not talking about Metal Gear Solid 2, I'm talking about
Bonanza Bros. for the Sega Genesis. Bonanza Bros. is a Genesis remake of a
game released on many consoles. The point of the game is to collect all the
items in the building, then head for the exit, to your getaway blimp.

IV. Story
============================================================================
From the Instruction manual:
"The Bonanza Brothers, Mike and Spike, two of the most famous investigators
around, get a strange phone call one day. The caller doesn't reveal his name-
he only asks the Bonanzas to meet him, at a special time and place. They
hesitate at first, but the caller's last words stick in their minds. "I'm
certain that this will prove to be a very lucrative partnership..."
Mike and Spike arrive at the boarded-up front of what used to be a grocery
store. "He said we should go in," says Mike, and in they go, wondering what's
going on.
"Yo! Anybody here?" shouts Spike into the darkness. Suddenly a sharp click and
a flash of light send the Bonanzas diving for cover.
"It's a set-up!" they yell. They lift up their heads slowly to check the room.
The TV has been mysteriously turned on, and a figure begins speaking to them.
"I can't give you my name. I'll just tell you that I'm a businessman with a
problem. Many of my properties have been targets for robbery recently. I don't
know why they've been hit, but it's become quite a costly situation. I need
the two of you, the renowned Bonanza Brothers, to test my security forces. I
have already had various items- money, paper, and the like- placed in ten of
my establishments. Your job is to retrieve every single item. If you succeed,
the reward will make Fort Knox look like pocket change. Good Luck..."
The figure fades out, and the Bonanzas stare at the screen full of static. "Ya
think this guy's on the up an' up?" Mike asks his brother.
"I tell ya what," Spike replies, "we're sure gonna find out!"
From the game:
Mike and Spike are watching the TV:
Mystery Man: "Good Evening Boys... I've got a job for you that's right up your
alley. We're going to clean up Badville once and for all.
To do that, we need evidence.
And it's up to you to get it from those crooked joints that are run by
Counterfeiters and Cheating Casino Operators."
Mike and Spike: "We'll get the treasure within 3 minutes."

VI. Walkthrough
============================================================================
NOTE: This walkthrough is for when you play with one player.
NOTE 2: When I say "Knockout" a guard, I mean for you to use your gun on them.
----------------
Level 1: COMPANY
----------------
Items: Floppy Disk (2), Secret Document (2)
Traps: None
Guards: Blue Guard (5), Shield Guard (4), Light Blue Guard (4)
Walkthrough: Open the door, walk inside, get the floppy disk, then knockout
the blue guard. Open the door to the next room, which should smash the Blue
Guard in it's path, then open the door and grab the secret document.
Go back to the First room and go up the stairs, and knockout the Blue Guards
to the right, now watch the Shield Guard, keeping the Blue Guards knocked out.
When the shield guard turns his back toward you, open the door, knock him out
and grab the Secret Documents. Now open the door to the next room, smashing a
shield guard, then grab the second floppy disk.
You should get the message that the job is completed (If you don't, then check
the map for anything you could have forgotten), so open the door to the next
room, if it misses the shield guard, then his back will be facing you anyways,
so knock him out. Afterwords, head up the stairs marked "exit", where the
Bonanza Blimp will come by and pick you up. Level Completed.
Walkthrough: Open the door the first room, smashing the first Green Guard, the
other guard is asleep and he'll only wake up if you trip on the can, so jump
over it, grab the Money, then go up the stairs (But not all the way up).
Now wait until the shield guard is in front of the stairs then come out when
he is not looking and knock him out, you should knock out the Green guard too,
then open the door. Wait until the Green guard in here moves toward the Money,
then jump over, knock him out, and grab the cash. Now go back to the previous
room (The shield guard should be in the door's path, so you won't need to
worry about him). Then go up the stairs, but not all the way. When the Shield
Guard turns his back, come out and knock him out. Open the door when the
Waiter is in it's path, then shoot the Green Guard. Go to the other side of
the room, making sure to pass the Guard looking out the window quickly because
he will look in your direction after a while, then grab the Stock Certificate
near the door.
Go out the door. Now you should be right under a Zipline, jump on to the
handles, ride it, and you should crash through the wall of the second
building. In the room you land in, there is a lone Fat Guard, so jump onto the
boxes and knock him out (Remember, it takes 4 hits). Grab the Money near him
and go down the stairs. When down the stairs, knockout the Shield Guard and
grab the Money on the car.
Now you should get the "Job Complete" message (If you don't, then check the
map to see if you forgot anything), so go up the stairs, knockout the Fat
Guard and go up the Exit stairs to complete the level.
Guards: Blue Guard (1), Green Guard (1), Shield Guard (10), Fat Guard (4)
Walkthrough: Open the door, smashing the Fat Guard inside, then go down the
hall quickly and go up the stairs, when up there, knockout the Blue Guard and
go down the stairs next to the ones you went up. Now you will need to face two
Shield Guards, their pattern is like this:
G- Guard
l- Shield
First: lG lG
Then: Gl lG
And finally: lG Gl
The third one is when you come out, knock out the guard to the right, grab the
Slot Machine, and go up the stairs to the right of it quickly because it's
very likely that the Shield Guard near the stairs has seen you.
After going up the stairs, wait until the Shield guard comes into your range
of fire, then knock him out and get the Videotape. Go left, knockout the Blue
Guard again, then continue left, knocking out the Shield Guard and Fat Guard,
then grab the Videotape by the stairs and go up stairs.
Knockout the Green Guard, go on the Spring and when you get to the top, go up
next to the sign, wait until the Shield Guard turns his back toward you, then
knock him out. After knocking him out go onto the next set of springs, then
knockout the Fat Guard and get the Briefcase. You should be getting the "Job
Completed" message, if not, then check the map to see if you forgot to get
anything. Go onto the next set of Springs, go on the next building and rush up
the "Exit" stairs, avoiding the Fat Guard and Shield Guard on the building.
Level Complete.
-------------
Level 4: MINT
-------------
Items: Counterfeit Bill (3), Printing Plate (3)
Traps: Weight (5), Rake (1)
Guards: Blue Guard (1), Shield Guard (12), Fat Guard (2), Dog (1)
Walkthrough: Go into the door on the right, and quickly pull the lever to
smash the Shield Guard with the Weight. Go to the right and grab the
Counterfeit Bill quickly, because the Shield Guard by the stairs will most
likely have seen you.
Go back to the first room, only this time go into the left door, knockout the
two Shield Guards in it, and go up the stairs. Wait until the Shield Guard
leaves the screen, then knockout the Fat Guard. Fire a shot and follow it, it
should knockout the Shield Guard. Grab the Counterfeit Bill and go up the
stairs. Knockout the Shield Guard, grab the Printing Plate, and go upstairs.
Wait until the Shield Guard looks away then go up to the lever and smash him
with the weight. Knockout the Fat Guard and grab the Printing Plate by him.
Go out the door, knockout the Dog and Blue Guard (watch out for the rake). Go
into the next room, put your back against the stairs and wait for the Shield
Guard to turn around (Don't worry if he sees you, just wait behind the stairs
and he will stop looking after a while) then knock him out and grab the
Printing Plate.
Go downstairs, knockout the Shield Guard, go downstairs, grab the Printing
Plates before the Shield Guard catches you.
You should get the "Job Complete" message, if not, then you forgot something.
Go upstairs, let the Shield Guard go under the Weight, then pull the lever. Go
upstairs, knockout the Shield Guard, then go up the "Exit" Stairs. Level
Complete.
Guards: Green Guard (4), Light Blue Guard (6), Shield Guard (5), Dog (6)
Walkthrough: Before the level starts, you will be riding in a Mine cart, after
the final crash, your character will jump out of the mine cart and then you
get to control your character. Be careful, because the nearby Green Guard will
go into alert, so knock him out then go upstairs, knockout the Dog and Green
Guard then go to the right, knockout the Green and Light Blue Guards, get the
Dynamite, continue to the right and knockout the Dog by the stairs.
Go down the stairs, knockout the Dog by the stairs and the Light Blue Guard to
the left, knockout the Dog by the Contraband Pistol, then grab the Contraband
Pistol and go back upstairs.
Once upstairs, go upstairs again, then go upstairs again (You should be on the
top floor). Knockout the Dog at the top of the stairs, then knockout the two
Light Blue Guards, and grab the Dynamite near them. Go down the stairs the
sleeping Dog is near (The stairs opposite to the ones you came up on). Go to
the right and get the Bomb.
You should get the "Job Complete" message, if not, then you forgot something.
Go to the left, knockout the two Shield Guards and go on the stairs. Wait
until the Shield Guard turns his back, then knock him out. When you go to the
right, it's quite likely one of the Shield Guards will see you, so lure one
away a little bit away from the Exit (So you don't get caught between the
Shield Guards). Go up the Exit stairs. Level Complete
----------------------
Level 6: JEWELRY STORE
----------------------
Items: Laser Crystal (2), Secret Crystal (1), Gold Bar (2)
Traps: Can (2)
Guard: Blue Guard (3),Green Guard (3), Light Blue Guard (2), Shield Guard (4),
Fat Guard (1)
Walkthrough: Jump over the yellow barrier, then knockout the Green Guard. Go
to the right, grab the Gold Bar, then jump on the Trunk of the car in front of
you as the Blue Guard should see you. Wait until he jumps on to the hood, then
knock him out. Go to the right, grab the Gold Bar.
Continue to the right, jumping over the Cans so you would not wake the Green
Guard. Knockout the Sleeping Guard, then knockout the Green Guard by the blue
car. Go upstairs. Then go upstairs again (You should be on the Top Floor).
Open the door, knockout the Light Blue Guards, then go to the next room. Put
your back on the wall and wait for the Blue Guard across the room to walk
away, then go and grab the Laser Crystal, and go back to the wall (As the Blue
Guard looking out the window will most likely have seen you). Wait there until
he stops chasing you. Then knockout both Blue Guards. Go up to the next room,
wait until the Shield Guard starts walking, then knock him out, along with the
Fat Guard, then grab the Laser Crystal.
Go into the next room, knockout the Shield Guard, go downstairs, wait for the
Shield Guard turns his back, knock him out, go into the next room, wait until
the Shield Guard turns his back, knock him out, and get the Secret Crystal.
You should get the "Job Complete" message, if not, you forgot something. Go to
the previous room (smashing the Shield Guard in the process), go upstairs,
wait until the Shield Guard moves away from the door, knock him out, and go up
the Exit stairs. Level complete.

(12),Fat Guard (1)
Walkthrough: Go inside, knockout the Fat Guard, go upstairs, go to the right,
open the door, grab the High-Tech Machine and Secret Machine.

upstairs (You should be on the Third floor now). Knockout the Light Blue
Guard, open the door to the right (which smashes the Shield Guard), grab the
Chemical, open the door to the right, if it doesn't smash the Shield Guard,
knock him out, and grab the Chemical.
Open the door to the right, knockout the Light Blue Guard, Go downstairs, walk
to the right, go downstairs (watch out for the Shield Guards), open the door
to the left, knockout the Shield Guard, grab the High-Tech Machine, and go
upstairs until you are at the third floor again, then go to where you first
arrived at the third floor (which is the stairs opposite of the ones you just
came up). Knockout the Shield Guards along the way.
Go upstairs (You should be at the top floor now), wait until the Shield Guard
turns, then knock him and the Blue Guard out. Go into the next room and rush
over to the other side of it to get the Secret Machine, because the Shield
Guard in the center will see you.
You should get the "Job Completed" message, if not, you forgot something. Go
to the room on the left, knockout the Shield Guard, then head up the Exit
Stairs. Level Completed.
Guards: Blue Guard (1), Green Guard (3),Shield Guard (12), Waiter (6)
Walkthrough: Go down the Stairs. Jump over the barricade, go down the stairs,
go up the stairs you went down, but wait until the Shield Guard starts
returning to his position, knock him out, go to the room on the left, knockout
the Shield Guard, grab the Briefcase, go back to the previous room, and go
back down the stairs.
Go to the room on the left, and when the Shield Guard starts walking back to
his original position, knock him out. Go to the room on the left, knockout the

(3)
Traps: Trapdoor (2)
Guards: Blue Guard (3), Green Guard (1), Light Blue Guard (6), Shield Guard
(10), Fat Guard (1)
Walkthrough: You have very little time to lose in this stage, so act quickly,
don't get knocked out, (As when you are knocked out, the clock is still
running), and make sure you have mastered jumping over traps. There are 10
items total that you need to collect, and you cannot afford to run out of time
(If you do, you lose a continue and all the items are put back in their
original positions).
Start the stage by going upstairs, go upstairs again past the Shield Guard, if
he is alerted, he will alert the Light Blue Guards. Go to the right, knockout
the Light Blue Guard, and grab the Floppy Disk. Go downstairs, using the
stairs next to the Floppy Disk, you'll arrive in a room with two Blue Guards
and a Shield Guard. Don't worry about the item there yet. Go downstairs using
the stairs by the Shield Guard. Knockout the Shield Guard and get the
Microcassette. Go to the right, knockout the Light Blue Guards, continue to

VII. Enemies
============================================================================
NOTE: If a Normal Guard (non-shield non-fat guards) fires his gun into the
air, it means that he has a gun. If a Normal Guard does not have a gun, he
will squeak his shoes. Both attracts nearby Guards.
Blue Guard: Your basic guard, most of the time, he only has a nightstick.
Green Guard: Same as the Blue Guard, only most of the time, he carries a gun.
Light Blue Guard: Same as the Green Guard, always has a gun, travels with
other Light Blue Guards most of the time.
Shield Guard: The biggest pain in the butt in the whole game, always has a
shield, can only be shot from behind and in the sides, he's invincible in the
front. Also, when he gets up, he will always face his shield toward where you
shot him from. Unlike the other guards, the shield guard can always jump, in
fact, he will sometimes jump down into the stairways and open doors, but most
of the time he won't go all the way down the stairs. Attracts other guards by
squeaking his shoes, he has his weapon out even when he isn't alert, that is
how you tell if he has a gun or nightstick.
Fat Guard: Fat, wears a purple jumpsuit, throws bombs, punches you when you
are up close, takes 4 hits from a gun to take down.
Waiter (Type 1): Doesn't attack, when he sees you, he will drop the plates he
is carrying, alerting the guards.
Waiter (Type 2): Only on the Deluxe Liner level, instead of falling, he throws
the plates at you. It's random as to which type you'll get, and I've only seen
Type 2 on the Deluxe Liner level.
Dog: When it sees you, it will bark, alerting nearby guards. It attacks by
biting you. It will also follow you up or down stairs.
============================================================================
VIII. Traps/Objects
============================================================================
Cans: When you step on it, you will fall on it and alert nearby guards. Just
jump over it to avoid it
Rakes: When you step on the rake part, the handle will come up and hit you in
the face. Jump over them too.
Doors: You only have to worry about them if your being chased by a shield
guard or if your playing a two player game. If you are in the door's path when
it is opened, then you will be smashed and you will lose a life. Of course,
you can use the door against enemies too. Just open the door when the enemy is
in the door's path, and he will be smashed.
Weight: It looks like a giant weight with the word "DANGER" on it, with a
lever nearby. Pull the lever and the weight will come down if anybody is under
the weight when it comes down, they will be smashed. You should only need to
worry about this in a 2-player game, as the player is the only one who can
pull the lever. Only on the Mint and Deluxe Liner levels.
Robot: Put your back on a purple robot, then press B to put it's head on.
Great way to hide from pursuing guards. Only in the Laboratory level, 1st
floor.
Zipline: Diagonal Line that takes you to another area of the level. Just jump
on to the handles at the higher end of the line and watch them take you down
the line to another room. Only in the Millionaire's Mansion and the Art Museum.
Spring: Only in the Casino level. When you jump on it, you will go high into
the air.
Trapdoor: A Dark spot on the ground, when you step on it, you will fall
through it. Only in the Pyramid level.

just press start on the Second Player controller at the Title Screen, then
choose the One-Player game. You will control Spike with the second controller.
Hints
-----
Restart Clock: To restart the clock back to 3:00, just use a Continue. Very
useful on Level 10, when you need a lot of time. Keep in mind that if you run
out of time on a level, you lose a continue and you will restart the level you
are on.
Restart Guard Positions: When the Guards are off the screen because you walk
away, they're very likely to restart to their original position and mood.
Follow the Bullet: Unlike the previous Bonanza Bros. games, the bullets will
disappear when they reach the edge of the screen or hit. You can prolong the
Bullet's life by following it, this is a great way to nail guards and hide
before they see you.
Getting over the Shields: To get past a Shield, although the Shield Guard is
likely to see you, it's a good way to get past him if he did see you.
Getting over Traps: Walk up to the Trap until you are one step away from
stepping on it and jump while still walking, you should jump over the trap.
This takes a lot of practice to master.
2-player game hint: The levels in a Two-Player game are exactly the same as
the levels in a One-Player game. You should be able to save time by having one
player go a different direction than the other player. For example, in the
Company level, one player should go upstairs in the first room, while the
other player goes straight, then both of you meet at the exit.

X. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
============================================================================
Q: Can you kill Guards in this game?
A: No. Sega probably wanted to keep the game for kids, not to mention increase
the difficulty.
Q: Why is the game story and the instruction manual story different?
A: I'm guessing there was one team who would work on the game and one who
would work on the manual and they probably couldn't decide on which story to
use before the deadline or they just didn't communicate enough, as there are
other mistakes in the manual. Or, there are two versions of this game.
Q: What differences are there between this version and the past versions?
A: The only other version of this I've played was the Master System version,
here are the changes:
1. Better Graphics and Sound
2. Two-Player mode added
3. Robo and Mobo changed to Mike and Spike
4. Options screen does not have time selection, choose character, and choose
how many Credits you have in the game.
5. MS version had "Antique Store" and "The Bank" levels
6. MS version had themed guards (Such as Magicians,Ninjas, Samurai, Robots,
Scientists)
7. MS version had different colored Shield Guards.
8. Genesis version has Shield Guards in earlier levels.
Q: Why is there a "safe" item in the introduction to some levels?
A: I'm guessing that:
1. The safe item was added in early in development, but the developers forgot
to or could not take it out before their deadline, and added items that were
already made to take the place of the Safe item.
or 2. The safe item is like a mystery item, and the items you find are what
was inside the safe.
Q: Will there be any future Bonanza Bros. games?
A: Yes, on the PS2, Sega is re-releasing Genesis classics, including Bonanza
Bros. It's going to be called "Sega Ages".

And so ends my second FAQ. This game is a very fun and original game for the
Sega Genesis. I hope that you liked this FAQ, and that it helped you with this
game. If you need any further help, e-mail me. I suggest getting the Re-
release for the PS2 when it comes out if you cannot find the Genesis version.
Remember, if you see this FAQ ANYWHERE else than GameFAQs.com or
Honestgamers.com, then the person most likely stole it, so report it to me.
