1. INTRODUCTION
This is an FAQ for Koei's action game Sengoku Musou, soon to-be-released in
the United States under the name Samurai Warriors. This FAQ deals with the
new skills system. After each stage, your general not only gains rating
points and ranks, but also skill points. These skill points can be used to
purchase special skills which improve your character in some fashion. Many
of the skills were equipped items in the Dynasty Warriors games (for instance,
having a chance of getting attack x2 when near death, and so on). Elemental
attacks must also now be learned as skills.
There are five categories of skills. There are two 'special skills' which
are pre-learned - Hattori Hanzou/Kunoichi's double jump, and Ishikawa Goemon's
wall-breaking. The other four categories of skills are Assault, Martial
Arts, Self-Defense, and Elemental skills. To learn a skill, your general must
have certain prerequisites (for instance the Self-Defense skills usually
require a certain amount of Speed status, while the Assault requires
a certain amount of Attack), and they must spend the skill points to purchase
the skills. Each category has certain skill trees, and to learn a skill you
must first learn every skill before the skill you want (everything to the
left of the skill on the path). Each general has a certain 'favored'
category in which it is easier to learn skills (the prerequisites are lower).
Each general also has a different progression (different trees) of skills.
Most skills have 3 levels, with the effect of the skill going up with each
level gain. There are also special 'rare' skills (denoted by an octagonal
icon on the skill chart) that are expensive to purchase, but only have one
level, and the effect is usually a very beneficial one.
This FAQ makes use of SJIS encoding in order to display Japanese
characters. I included this feature so that if you do not know
Japanese, you can easily match up the characters on your TV screen
to the characters in this guide. You will need to have support for
viewing Japanese characters on your computer, however. Certain versions
of Windows should have it built in; otherwise, you'll either need to
get a program like NJStar Communicator, or you'll need to get
Japanese character support for Internet Explorer (free from Microsoft)
and open this file in IE instead of Notepad/Wordpad.
2. SKILLS LISTING
Here is a list of all the skills in the game divided by category, and what
they do. The amount of skill points needed to learn each skill for each level
is also listed. The prereqs and skill tree order differs based on character;

ELEMENTAL 属性
Elemental attacks work differently in Sengoku Musou then from the Dynasty
Warriors series. When you find a weapon, it has a chance of having an element
(Fire, Lightning, Ice, or Night) on it. However, this element is useless until
you learn an elemental skill. By learning a skill, a certain attack of yours
will now be able to use whatever element is on your weapon. By increasing
the level of the skill, the damage goes up (Fire, Lightning) or the chance
of the skill working increases (Ice, Night). You still have to have full
Musou Gauge to perform elemental attacks.

3. SKILL TREES
Here each character's skill progression and the prerequisites for each of
their skills is listed. Edit Generals appear to use one of the default
character skill trees, although whether the assignment is based on your
edit character's stats unknown; prerequisites also seem to be different.
Characters are listed in the order in which they appear in the manual.

Just to give an example, here is one of my edit character's skill trees. As
you can see, she shares the same skill progression as Akechi Mitsuhide, but
the prerequisite attributes are different. Your character will be assigned
a skill tree at random; the attribute requirements will be some percentage
of your character's maximum stats.

4. MISCELLANEOUS TIPS
Once your rating points reach 99999, you will cease to gain any skill points.
This means that if you haven't done well in getting skill points along the
way, you might not be able to learn all the skills you want to.
There are a few ways to maximize the number of skill points you get. First
is the difficulty level. Playing on Easy or Normal is fine, but if you play
on difficult you will get 150% of the skill points you would, and if you play
on Hell you get 200% of the skill points you normally would.
Since rating points is closely linked to your evaluation, if you want skill
points but no rating, try to perform missions poorly, and defeat as few
enemy generals as possible. Here are a few scenarios you might want to use:
--In Uesugi Kenshin's Battle of Kawanakajima stage 川中島の戦, once the
stage starts just run up to Takeda Shingen and defeat him. Don't beat
anybody else.
--In Akechi Mitsuhide's Revolt at Honnouji stage 本能寺の変, simply run
around the stage until Nobunaga withdraws (about five minutes). You can
also collect items while you're at it (see my Items FAQ for details).
If you want to learn every skill in the game, you need 30500 skill points.
Thus you'll need to get all of these before you reach 99999 experience. See
my Attribute/Skill Maxing FAQ for minute details on how to achieve this.
