1. INTRODUCTION

This is an FAQ for Sengoku Musou, released in the US as Samurai Warriors.
Unlike the Dynasty Warriors games, SW has real-time missions that can affect
the course of the battle depending on your success or failure to perform
them. Since each mission can have a variety of triggering conditions, as
well as a variety of success and failure conditions, a comprehensive mission
FAQ is still sorely needed. Hence, this FAQ.

Please note that I own the original Japanese version of the game, and so
the exact wording of the missions I use will likely NOT be what shows up in
the US version of the game. However, barring changes between the two
versions of the game themselves, the conditions listed are accurate for
both versions.


2. MISSION LISTING

This section is arranged in the same order as the characters are listed in
the manual. (I have been informed that the character listing was removed
from the US version of the manual. I have no idea why.)

Most triggering conditions are linked to other missions so they will be
noted as such by number. "Finishes" indicates once a mission is over,
regardless of whether it was a success or failure. "Active" indicates when
a mission is in effect (i.e., the text of the mission is currently on the
screen).

If multiple triggers, success, or failure conditions are listed, only ONE
of those conditions needs be fulfilled unless noted otherwise.

Getting 100% for a given character gives you nothing. However, if you get
100% for all 16 characters (the 15 regular + an edit general), you'll unlock
an easter egg; if you play a stage in your 2P costume, all ally and enemy
playable generals will also be in their 2P costumes. You can check your
percent completion at any time in the Collection.

SANADA YUKIMURA

STAGE ONE
BATTLE OF KAWANAKAJIMA
1-1 Assault the enemy camp on Saijosan!
Triggers: Stage begins.
Success: Enter the enemy camp on the Saijosan summit (the fort in the
        center south position).
Failure: Six minutes elapse.
        You enter Hachimanbara (the central plain).

1-2 Quickly return to Hachimanbara!
Triggers: Player is Sanada Yukimura, after 1-1 success.
Success: Return to Hachimanbara via the point indicated by the blue X.
Failure: Your main camp falls.

1-3 Protect Kaizujou!
Triggers: After 1-1 failure.
Success: Takasaka Masanobu is alive when all enemy generals have been
        defeated.
Failure: Takasaka Masanobu is defeated.

1-4 Defeat Uesugi Kenshin!
Triggers: After 1-2 success.

1-5 Defeat Uesugi Kenshin!
Triggers: After 1-3 success.

1-6 Defeat Uesugi Kenshin!
Triggers: After 1-2 failure.

STAGE TWO
BATTLE OF MIKATAGAHARA
2-1 Lure the Takeda Army into advancing!
Triggers: Stage begins.
Success: Lead the indicated generals to the blue X.
Failure: Indicated generals are defeated before reaching the X.

2-2 Defeat Honda Tadakatsu!
Triggers: After 2-4 triggers, when Tokugawa Ieyasu appears in the main
         camp.

2-3 Defeat the retreating Takigawa Kazumasu!
Triggers: 30 seconds after 2-1 finishes, if Tokugawa morale is low.
Success: Takigawa Kazumasu is defeated.
Failure: Takigawa Kazumasu leaves the map.

2-4 Pursue and defeat Tokugawa Ieyasu!
Triggers: After 2-3 finishes.
         Four minutes after 2-1 finishes.
Success: Tokugawa Ieyasu is defeated.
Failure: Tokugawa Ieyasu leaves the map.

2-5 Return to home base and protect your commander!
Triggers: After clearing Takeda Shingen Musou mode once, while 2-4
         is active, encountering Tokugawa Ieyasu, Honda Tadakichi,
         or Ookubo Tadayo.
Success: Hattori Hanzou is defeated.
Failure: Takeda Shingen is defeated.

2-6 Defend against the Tokugawa army advance!
Triggers: After 2-4, 2-5 failure.
Success: All enemy generals defeated.

STAGE THREE (UPPER)
BATTLE OF NAGASHINO
3-1 Eliminate all enemies in Nagashino Castle!
Triggers: Stage begins.
Success: Northeast fort is cleared of enemies.
Failure: Too much time elapses.

3-2 Quickly eliminate the enemy reinforcements!
Triggers: Two minutes after 3-1 finishes.
         One minute after entering the central plain after 3-1.

3-3 Defeat Okudaira Sadamasa!
Triggers: After 3-1 failure, if Okudaira Sadamasa is alive, and 3-2 is active.

3-4 Quickly defeat Maeda Keiji!
Triggers: While 3-2 is active, while the Oda/Tokugawa army advances,
         once Maeda Keiji encounters either the player or the
         ally home base.
Success: Maeda Keiji is defeated.
Failure: Maeda Keiji enters home base.

3-5 Defeat Oda Nobunaga!
Triggers: Player is Sanada Yukimura, after 3-1, 3-2, and 3-4 success,
         if Hattori Hanzou is defeated, and Takeda Katsuyori reaches
         Nagashino Castle.

3-6 Defeat Hattori Hanzou!
Triggers: With Maeda Keiji defeated, if Hattori Hanzou is alive and the
         Oda/Tokugawa army begins advancing.

STAGE THREE (LOWER)
BATTLE OF NAGASHINO
3-1 Defeat Takigawa Kazumasu!
Triggers: Stage begins.

3-2 Defeat the enemy reinforcements!
Triggers: After 3-1 success.

3-3 Support Baba Nobufusa!
Triggers: After 3-2 success.
         Four minutes after 3-2 triggers.

3-4 Enter the Oda home base first!
Triggers: After 3-1, 3-2, 3-3 success.
         After 3-1 success, defeating Akechi Mitsuhide before 3-3
         triggers.
Success: Player enters the Oda home base before any ally generals.
Failure: Ally general enters Oda home base first.
        Too much time elapses.

3-5 Defeat Maeda Keiji!
Triggers: After 3-4 triggers, if player or ally general is near enemy
         camp.
         After 3-6 success, if player or ally general is near enemy
         camp.
Success: Maeda Keiji is defeated.
Failure: Maeda Keiji enters home base.
        3-4 success.

3-6 Eliminate the enemy rifle units!
Triggers: After 3-1, 3-2, or 3-3 failure.

3-7 Defeat the enemy commander Oda Nobunaga!
Triggers: After 3-4 success.
         After 3-5, 3-6 success.
         Player is not Sanada Yukimura or Takeda Shingen, after 3-5
         success.

STAGE FOUR (UPPER)
DEFENSE OF UEDA CASTLE
4-1 Defeat Honda Masanobu!
Triggers: Stage begins.

4-2 Lure Honda Tadamasa into the castle!
Triggers: After 4-1 success.
Success: Honda Tadamasa reaches blue X.
Failure: Honda Tadamasa is defeated before reaching blue X.

4-3 Activate the floodgates!
Triggers: After 4-2 success.
         Having defeated Honda Tadamasa and Sakakibara Yasumasa, after 4-1
         success.
Success: Player operates floodgates (destroys blocks in northern fort).
Failure: Too much time elapses.

4-4 Defeat Hattori Hanzou!
Triggers: After 4-3 success.

4-5 Defeat Hattori Hanzou!
Triggers: After 4-1 or 4-2 failure.

4-6 Defeat Torii Mototada!
Triggers: If Torii Mototada enters Ueda Castle.
Success: Torii Mototada is defeated.
Failure: Torii Mototada enters the inner courtyard.

4-7 Defeat Sanada Nobuyuki!
Triggers: If Sanada Nobuyuki enters Ueda Castle.

STAGE FOUR (LOWER)
ATTACK ON AZUCHI CASTLE
4-1 Stop the Oda army fire plan!
Triggers: Stage begins.
Success: Akechi Mitsuhide is defeated.
Failure: Fire squad reaches its destination.

4-2 Attack the Azuchi Castle main door!
Triggers: After 4-1 finishes.
Success: Player enters the central court through the main door.
Failure: Player enters the central court from the west door.

4-3 Defend the Kunoichi squad!
Triggers: If Kunoichi is alive, a little after 4-2 success.
         If Kunoichi is alive, approaching Kunoichi after entering
         the castle.
Success: Kunoichi reaches destination properly.
Failure: Kunoichi is defeated.

4-4 Defeat the enemy spear cannons!
Triggers: After 4-2 or 4-3 failure.
         If Kunoichi is defeated before 4-3 triggers.

4-5 Defeat Oichi!
Triggers: Encountering Oichi on the second floor.

4-6 Defeat Maeda Keiji!
Triggers: Encountering Maeda Keiji on the fourth floor.

4-7 Defeat Mori Ranmaru!
Triggers: Encountering Mori Ranmaru on the fifth floor.

4-8 Defeat Oda Nobunaga!
Triggers: Upon reaching the sixth floor.

STAGE FIVE (UPPER)
SUMMER CAMPAIGN AT OSAKA
5-1 Lure the enemy front line towards Sanadamaru!
Triggers: Stage begins.
Success: Both indicated generals reach the blue X.
Failure: Either indicated general is defeated before reaching the blue X.

5-2 Stop the enemy cannons!
Triggers: After 5-1 finishes.
Success: All enemy cannons destroyed.
Failure: Any cannon reaches eastern part of castle.

5-3 Return to the ally camp!
Triggers: After 5-2 finishes.
Success: Player returns to inner court.
Failure: Enemy general enters the castle.

5-4 Prevent Date Masamune from entering Osaka Castle!
Triggers: After 5-3 success.
Success: Date Masasmune is defeated.
Failure: Date Masamune enters northwest door of Osaka Castle.

5-5 Assault the Tokugawa Ieyasu main camp!
Triggers: After 5-4 success.
         After 5-7 and 5-8 success.
         During 5-7 or 5-8, if Date Masamune enters the castle.

5-6 Defeat the attacking enemy squads!
Triggers: After 5-1 through 5-4 successes, during 5-5, upon entering
         the Tokugawa camp from the north or west.
Success: Approximately 100 enemies defeated and doors open again.
Failure: Player is defeated.

5-7 Defeat Date Masamune!
Triggers: After 5-2 failure.

5-8 Support Akashi Takenori!
Triggers: After 5-3 failure, if Akashi Takenori and Honda Tadamasa are alive.
Success: Honda Tadamasa is defeated.
Failure: Akashi Takenori is defeated.

STAGE FIVE (LOWER)
BATTLE OF YAMAZAKI
5-1 Defeat Shibata Katsuie and Niwa Nagahide!
Triggers: Stage begins.

5-2 Stop Maeda Keiji from entering Ten'ouzan!
Triggers: After 5-1 success, if Maeda Keiji is alive.
         After 5-5 success, if Maeda Keiji is alive.
Success: Maeda Keiji is defeated.
Failure: Maeda Keiji enters Ten'ouzan (the central summit).

5-3 Cross the Enmyouji river before the mist clears!
Triggers: After 5-2 or 5-6 success, once mist comes in.
Success: Player reaches blue X destination.
Failure: Too much time elapses (mist clears).

5-4 Find Oda Nobunaga!
Triggers: After 5-3 success.
Success: Player encounters Oda Nobunaga before mist clears. (Nobunaga
        is usually in the southeast, but his location may be random).
Failure: Mist clears before Oda Nobunaga is found.

5-5 Defeat the enemies on Ten'ouzan's summit!
Triggers: After 5-1 failure, not having encountered Maeda Keiji, and
         if either Shibata Katsuie or Niwa Nagahide are alive.
Success: All enemies on Ten'ouzan are defeated.

5-6 Stop Maeda Keiji from entering home base!
Triggers: After 5-2 failure, if Maeda Keiji is alive.

5-7 Stop Toyotomi Hideyoshi from entering home base!
Triggers: If Toyotomi Hideyoshi is in the northern cave and Takeda
         Shingen is in home base.

Triggers: When Hachisuka Koroku reaches the western forest.

1-3 Take the Ichiyajo and stop the cannons!
Triggers: Automatic after the Ichiyajo event.

1-4 Defeat all of the Oda army generals!
Triggers: After encountering Nouhime.

1-5 Stop Takenaka Hanbei's rebellion!
Triggers: With Takenaka Hanbei alive, after 1-1 through 1-3 success.

STAGE TWO
MASSACRE AT ISE NAGASHIMA
2-1 Defeat the guardians and suppress the fort!
Triggers: Stage begins.
Success: Two guardians defeated.
Failure: Eight minutes elapse.
        Niwa Nagahide is defeated.
        Oda Nobutada is defeated.
        Shibata Katsuie is defeated.

2-2 Guard the cannon until it begins firing!
Triggers: Two minutes elapse.
         Kuki Yoshitaka's squad begins to struggle.
Success: Three minutes elapse with Kuki Yoshitaka still alive.
Failure: Kuki Yoshitaka is defeated.

2-3 Ensure the tactics squad's safety!
Triggers: After 2-1 success.
Success: Hideyoshi reaches destination.
Failure: Hideyoshi is defeated.

2-4 Ensure the tactics squad's safety!
Triggers: After 2-1 failure.
Success: Hideyoshi reaches destination.
Failure: Hideyoshi is defeated.

2-5 Take all of the forts on all four sides!
Triggers: After 2-3 or 2-4 failure.

2-6 Defeat the enemy commander!
Triggers: After 2-3, 2-4, or 2-5 success.
         After all four forts taken, and after 2-3 or 2-4 failure.
Success: Shoukei and Saika Magoichi are defeated.
Failure: Shoukei or Saika Magoichi enter Oda home base.

2-7 Defeat Hattori Tomosada and make an escape route!
Triggers: After 2-6 finishes.

2-8 Let the civilians escape unharmed!
Triggers: After 2-6 finishes.
Success: At least two civilians escape. Civilians will follow you if you
        encounter them.
Failure: Fewer than two civilians escape.

STAGE THREE
REVOLT AT HONNOUJI
3-1 Defeat Mori Ranmaru and clear the south gate!
Triggers: Stage begins.

3-2 Defend the fire attack squad from enemies!
Triggers: After encountering Mori Ranmaru.
         After battle begins south of the Honnouji gate.
Success: Fire attack squad reaches destination (marked by blue X).
Failure: Fire attack squad is defeated.

3-3 Defeat Nouhime!
Triggers: After encountering Nouhime inside Honnouji.

3-4 Defeat Oichi!
Triggers: After encountering Oichi.

3-5 Defeat Oda Nobunaga!
Triggers: After encountering Oda Nobunaga.

STAGE FOUR (UPPER)
BATTLE OF YAMAZAKI
4-1 Defeat the guard squad and close the gates to the enemy camp!
Triggers: Stage begins.
Success: Indicated guard captains are defeated.
Failure: Enemies enter Ten'ouzan (central mountain summit).

4-2 Defeat the enemy and save Matsuda Masachika!
Triggers: With Nakagawa Kiyohide or Takeyama Shigetomo still alive, after
         4-1 finishes.
         With Nakagawa Kiyohide, Takeyama Shigetomo, or Oichi still alive,
         after 4-1 failure.

4-3 Defeat the enemies on Ten'ouzan!
Triggers: After 4-2 finishes.
         After 4-1 finishes, if 30 seconds elapse and enemies are still on
         Ten'ouzan.
Success: All enemies cleared from Ten'ouzan.
Failure: Player nears enemy home base.

4-4 Defeat Niwa Nagahide before his rendezvous with the main camp!
Triggers: After five minutes elapse.

4-5 Defeat Maeda Keiji and save Atoji Sadayuki!
Triggers: After 4-3 success, when Maeda Keiji encounters Atoji Sadayuki.

4-6 Defeat the Yoshitami army!
Triggers: After 4-4 success.

4-7 Quickly break through the cave!
Triggers: Player is Akechi Mitsuhide, during 4-3, upon entering the northern
         cave from the east side.
Success: Player reaches west exit of cave.
Failure: Too much time elapses.

4-8 Save the Tsuda army by defeating the Kurota army!
Triggers: Failing 4-3 with Tsuda Nobuharu and Kurota Miyabei alive, then
         waiting until the Kurota army ambushes the Tsuda army from the
         cave.

STAGE FOUR (LOWER)
DEFENSE OF AZUCHI CASTLE
4-1 Defeat the enemy fire attack squad!
Triggers: Stage begins.
Success: Takigawa Kazumasu and Oda Nobutada are defeated.
Failure: Fire attack squad reaches its destination.

4-2 Prevent the enemy from breaking through the gates!
Triggers: When Hashiba Hideyoshi enters the western part of the map.
Success: Hashiba Hideyoshi is defeated.
Failure: Hashiba Hideyoshi enters the central court.

4-3 Prevent the enemy spear cannons from breaking through the gates!
Triggers: When Shibata Katsuie enters the center of the map.
Success: Shibata Katsuie is defeated.
Failure: Shibata Katsuie enters the central court.

4-4 Prevent the Oda army from nearing the tower!
Triggers: After 4-2 failure, when Hashiba Hideyoshi, Maeda Toshiie, or Niwa
         Nagahide begins battle with Akechi Shigetomo.

4-5 Prevent the Oda army from nearing the tower!
Triggers: After 4-3 failure, when Shibata Katsuie, Hachisuka Koroku, or
         Sakuma Nobumori alive, when Saitou Toshimasa is defeated.

4-6 Defeat the Oda army squad inside the castle gates!
Triggers: Upon entering the castle gate section in the southeast and being
         locked in.

4-7 Stop the enemy's fire attack plan!
Triggers: After 4-1 failure and two minutes have elapsed, with either
         Oda Nobutada or Takigawa Kazumasu still alive.
Success: Oda Nobutada and Takigawa Kazumasu are defeated.
Failure: Oda Nobutada or Takigawa Kazumasu enters the main camp.

4-8 Present Oda Nobunaga from nearing the tower!
Triggers: After defeating three enemy generals.
         After 4-7 failure.

STAGE FIVE (UPPER)
INVASION OF GIFU CASTLE
5-1 Defeat the enemy ninja squad!
Triggers: After encountering the ninja squad on the first floor.

5-2 Defeat Hattori Hanzou!
Triggers: After 5-1 finishes.

5-3 Defeat Saika Magoichi!
Triggers: After encountering Saika Magoichi on the second floor.

5-4 Defeat Ishikawa Goemon!
Triggers: After encountering Ishikawa Goemon on the third floor.

5-5 Defeat Mori Ranmaru!
Triggers: After reaching the fourth floor.

STAGE FIVE (LOWER)
BATTLE OF YAMAZAKI
5-1 Prevent the Oda army from breaking through the east gate!
Triggers: Stage begins.
Success: Saza Narimasa is defeated.
Failure: Atoji Sadomasa is defeated.

5-2 Prevent the Oda army from breaking through the west gate!
Triggers: Stage begins.
Success: Takigawa Kazumasu is defeated.
Failure: Akechi Shigetomo is defeated.

5-3 Defeat all enemies inside the cave!
Triggers: After entering the cave.

5-4 Defeat Hashiba Hideyoshi and protect the east gate!
Triggers: After 5-1 success and 3 minutes 30 seconds elapse, if Atoji
         Sadamasa is alive.

5-5 Withstand the attacks without defeating Mori Ranmaru!
Triggers: Player is Akechi Mitsuhide, after 5-1 success, and encountering
         Mori Ranmaru.
Success: Player remains near Mori Ranmaru for one minute.
Failure: Player separates from Mori Ranmaru.
        Mori Ranmaru is defeated.

5-6 Stop Oda Nobunaga before being surrounded!
Triggers: After 20 minutes elapse, with Akechi Shigetomo alive, and 5-2
         success.
         After 5-1 failure and 5-2 success, if Atoji Sadamasa is defeated.
Success: Player encounters Oda Nobunaga.
Failure: Oda Nobunaga reaches Ten'ouzan.

1-2 Defeat all enemies near Zenshouji fort!
Triggers: After 1-1 success.
Success: Katsurayama Ujimoto and his squad all defeated.
Failure: Toyotomi Hideyoshi is defeated.

1-3 Attack the Imagawa home base from the mountain path!
Triggers: After 1-2 success.
Success: Player reaches destination marked by blue X.
Failure: Player enters Imagawa home base from west.

1-4 Defeat Hattori Hanzou!
Triggers: During 1-3, when player enters northeast of map.

1-5 Defeat Honda Tadakatsu!
Triggers: After 1-4 success.

1-6 Eliminate all of Imagawa Yoshimoto's generals!
Triggers: After 1-3 finishes.

1-7 Defeat Imagawa Yoshimoto's main generals!
Triggers: After 1-2 failure.

1-8 Prevent Hattori Hanzou from overtaking you!
Triggers: During 1-7, once two or fewer enemy generals remain, and

Success: Player enters Imagawa camp before Hattori Hanzou does.

STAGE TWO
ATTACK ON MOUNT INABA CASTLE
2-1 Defeat Sunomoto no Ujiie!
Triggers: Stage begins.

2-2 Defeat Andou Morinari in the western forest!
Triggers: Stage begins.

2-3 Defend the siege machine!
Triggers: Three minutes after stage begins.

2-4 Defeat the Saitou army's attack squad!
Triggers: After 2-1, 2-2 success, when Toyotomi Hideyoshi finishes
         collecting the lumber.
Success: Toki Yorimoto is defeated.
Failure: Dawn arrives.

2-5 Defeat all of the Saitou army generals!
Triggers: After 2-4 success, once dawn arrives.
Success: All indicated generals are defeated.
Failure: Saitou Yoshitatsu is defeated before all of his other generals are.
        Saitou Yoshitatsu escapes.

2-6 Defeat Saitou Yoshitatsu!
Triggers: After 2-4 failure.
         After dawn arrives without 2-4 being triggered.

2-7 Defeat Mori Ranmaru!
Triggers: After encountering Mori Ranmaru on the first floor.

2-8 Defeat Takenaka Hanbei!
Triggers: Having not defeated Takenaka Hanbei in the field battle, after
         encountering him on the third floor.

2-9 Defeat Akechi Mitsuhide!
Triggers: After encountering Akechi Mitsuhide on the third floor.

2-10 Defeat Saitou Yoshitatsu!
Triggers: After encountering Saitou Yoshitatsu on the fourth floor.

STAGE THREE
BATTLE OF ANEGAWA
3-1 Defeat Tokugawa Ieyasu and stop his advance!
Triggers: Stage begins.

3-2 Prevent Maeda Keiji's assault on home base!
Triggers: After 3-1 finishes.

3-3 Defeat Nouhime!
Triggers: Player is Oichi, after 3-2 finishes, upon entering southeast
         of map.

3-4 Prevent the reinforcements' assault on home base!
Triggers: After 3-3 finishes.

3-5 Quickly defeat Oda Nobunaga!

INVASION OF AZUCHI CASTLE
4-1 Defeat the Mino Three!
Triggers: After encountering Inaba Ittetsu, Ujiie Tozen, or Andou Morinari
         on the first floor.
Success: All three generals defeated before reaching second floor.
Failure: Player reaches second floor without defeating all three.

4-2 Defeat the Mino Three!
Triggers: After 4-1 success, upon encountering Inaba Ittetsu, Ujiie Tozen, or
         Andou Morinari on the third floor.

Note: There appears to be either a time or some sort of limit on this
mission; it can be very hard to get. DarkPriest suggests the following:
try equipping the War Drum to help your allies' morale. Finish the first two
missions, meeting with Nobunaga and clearing the three enemies from inside
the temple, first. Also try to clear the south and west areas entirely as
Nobunaga will be taking that route. Leave the temple via either the south
or west doors and seal as many gates as possible. Once Nobunaga exits the
temple, he'll try to head south then east to rendezvous with Ranmaru.
However, his AI ain't great at all and he'll stop to fight enemies. You
must defeat all enemy captains (the middle one in each group of five)
or he'll just stay there without leaving. Also the lower gate on the west
side has no captain (so it can't be sealed) and it always spits out enemies,
so you'll have to be very quick to defeat the already-exisiting enemies and
then stand in front of the gate to defeat the new enemies. This is much
easier in 2P mode.
