II. Introduction
=============================================================================
This guide is to help you unlock and complete all there is to Goemon
Ishikawa. It will cover how to unlock him, his weapons, his moves, how to
earn his fifth weapon. It will also help you get through his stages, complete
all his missions, and unlock his branches and endings. Before you try
contacting me, please read through the FAQ first. If you ask a question that
is covered in the FAQ I will not reply to you. If you have something you want
to contribute, email me and you will be given full credit.

III. Goemon Ishikawa
=============================================================================
1. Goemon Ishikawa's History
Ishikawa Goemon's(Goemon Ishikawa) origins are still somewhat unclear. There
are rumors that say he was born in a village in rural Japan in the mid-1500s.
In Nodagawa (originally known as Ikuchi) there is a stone monument marking
his birth. Others claim that he was born in Iga-ueno (Mie) or in Enshu-
Hamamatsu (Shizuoka). Some stories tell of Goemon becoming a criminal after
stealing from his cruel master and killing his pursuers. Later he becomes a
merchant in Kyoto and Osaka by day and a thief by night. Much like Goemon's
origins, there are several accounts about Ishikawa Goemon's death. Probably
what most have heard, is his execution in a cauldron of boiling oil in 1594
on the banks of Kyoto's Sanjo River. Goemon's death followed his capture
after infiltrating the palace of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the ruler of Japan at
the time. In some accounts Goemon is executed with his family and his company
of thieves. His last words to Toyotomi Hideyoshi, "It is you who are the
robber, who stole the whole country!" are still well remembered.

2. My thoughts on Goemon Ishikawa
Goemon Ishikawa is your typical large powerhouse character. He uses a big
club that turns into a flail in a few of his attacks, and also has a cannon
on his back that he uses as his ranged weapon. He is very slow, but slow
characters mean powerful characters in this type of game. Goemon is no
exception. His moves are some of my favorite in the game, and he is extremely
well at clearing huge crowds completely. He also has a unique skill that he
starts out with called "Break." This allows him to break walls in certain
levels(Castles and Fields) that have "Wanted" posters with his face on them.
His stages are a little more difficult than most of the other characters,
mainly because the majority of his stages are hard to navigate if you don't
know the map very well. He has quite a bit of castle stages on top of that,
so I recommend you get the Rare Item "Lantern." This will help you
tremendously in those stages. However I will try to give directions as best
as I can in the Walkthrough/Mission Completion section of this guide to help
you through those stages. So let's get started.

IV. Unlocking Goemon Ishikawa
=============================================================================
In order to unlock Goemon Ishikawa, you must beat Story mode with the
following characters:
1. Beat Story Mode with Kenshin Uesugi - this will unlock Keiji Maeda.
2. Beat Story Mode with Keiji Maeda - this will unlock Okuni.
3. Beat Story Mode with Okuni - this will unlock Goemon Ishikawa.
Once you beat Okuni's Story mode, Goemon Ishikawa will become available to
select.
=============================================================================
V. Weapons
=============================================================================
Goemon Ishikawa uses a mace/flail as his melee weapon and a cannon on his
back as his ranged weapon. Each "new" weapon you find and keep upgrades the
strength, appearance, and number of hits you can do with it. You can also
find that his level 1-4 weapons can have random stats and elements on them
too. Here is his list of weapons, starting from his first to his fifth:

VI. How to get Goemon Ishikawa's Fifth Weapon
=============================================================================
*WHAT YOU NEED TO DO BEFORE TRYING TO GET HIS FIFTH WEAPON*
1. You must have beaten his Story Mode at least once. Otherwise it won't
appear no matter what.
2. You must be playing on either Hard or Chaos difficulty.
Requirements: (This must all be done in 5 minutes or less)
1. Play his fourth stage(upper branch) Osaka Intrusion.
2. On the first floor you must collect enough treasure to make the stairs
accessible. Do not try to kill any enemies or generals, you will waste time.
Get to second floor.
3. On the second floor, you must check all the rooms as the mission states(it
appears a few seconds after you reach the second floor). Again, do not try to
kill enemies or generals, you will waste time. Once you check all the rooms
on the second floor(Goemon should talk when there's three rooms left and when
there's one room left to check), in UNDER 5 MINUTES, you should get a special
item report. It should be in front of the stairs leading to the third floor.
Grab it, and then beat the stage and the weapon will be yours.
Note: If you're having trouble searching all the rooms, refer to Section IX.
Walkthrough/Mission Completion - subsection 2. Walkthrough for directions on
how to check all of rooms on the second floor.

Counters/Deadlocks/Musou Attacks
Counter(Hold L1 and then press T just as an enemy attacks you): Swings down
on the enemy hard.
Deadlock(You and a general attack at the same time and your weapons collide,
tap S rapidly to win): Swings his weapon horizontally to the left, then
swings it downward, then bends over and shoots the enemy with his cannon.
Musou(Holding O): Puts ammo in his cannon and shoots enemies.
Musou(Tap O): You can do any of the moves mentioned above by just tapping O
then doing the attack/combo. I recommend his C4(SSST+(TTTT)).

is the Upper Branch. However, if you defeat all Oda Officers BEFORE defeating
Keiji for the last time, then you will be taken to Stage - 3 Dance of Osaka
which is the Lower Branch. Stage 4 - Osaka Intrusion(Upper Branch) will also
give you Goemon's second ending if you do not use your cannon(T or hold R1
then press S or T) on the 5th floor against Hanzo Hattori. If you do use your
cannon it will wake up Hideyoshi and you will have to defeat him with Hanzo
on top of that. Defeat both Hideyoshi and Hanzo to proceed to Stage 5 -
Goemon the Wild(Upper Branch). I will cover more on Goemon's endings in
section X. Goemon Ishikawa's Endings.

2. Walkthrough
This part of the section will provide strategies I used to complete each of
Goemon's stages. I will list them in the same order as I did in the
Stage/Mission Listing since this is the same way they are listed in Goemon's
"Missions" in the Vault. This part of the section will cover how to beat the
stages to proceed to the next one(while covering some missions that come up
while doing them). For information on how to unlock all of Goemon's missions
and get 100% Mission Completion, refer to subsection 3. Mission Completion.
Stage 1 - Gifu Intrusion
Victory Condition: Plover Urn is found
Defeat Condition: Player is defeated
Time: 25'00'00
A castle stage right off the bat. Beautiful. Ok, let's begin.
- Floor 1: When you start the level, Goemon will have a little dialogue and
your first mission is to collect a treasure(a weapon or item box) on each
floor. You only need to get one treasure on each floor but you can get more
if you want. However, I will only guide you how to get one treasure on each
floor. You start in front of a door, smash the door to open it(you should
know this by now), and move down the hallway. You want to ignore enemies for
the most part in castle stages or you will waste time, and you're not given a
lot of time in this particular stage. Turn left when you can. There's a trap
floor around the corner which slides open to reveal spikes. If you're not
fast enough, jump to avoid falling into the spikes. Follow that path and
there will be another trap floor around that corner so get passed that. You
should be in a more open area now, which has numerous trap floors. Get passed
them and turn left again. Head up the hallway(avoiding another trap floor)
and head through the door straight in front of you. You should be in a small
room now, with a door to your right and a door straight ahead of you. Take
the door straight ahead of you. Follow that path into another small room,
which has a yellow box in it. Break the box to get a weapon. You should get a
message that says the stairs to the next floor are now accessible. Head back
to the small room and take the other door now. Head straight down that
hallway until there is a door in front of you and go through it. You should
be in a larger room with Ranmaru Mori in it. You will get a mission to
eliminate him. So eliminate him, and he drops a gold bar(gives you 200 exp.).
The top right corner of that room should be a door, so go through it. Head
straight again until you get to another door and go through it as well. You
should be in another small room, go through the door in front of you. Once
again, another small room, turn left(there's a trap floor so watch out), and
go through that door. You should see the stairs so go up the stairs.
- Floor 2: Once you start this floor head straight and then left through a
door. There is a trap right in front of the door, so roll(R2) to evade it.
Right after that trap there is another trap floor so get passed that as well.
Turn left and go through the door. You should be in a small room, you can
take either door, they will lead to the same place. There should be a general
in that room, you can defeat him if you want. You should see a door a little
to your right, go through that door(you will see another door to your left
but it leads to the area you just came from). Head down in that room and
there should be a door to your left, take it. No head straight and you will
enter another room, which will have another yellow box. Break it for an
item(You should get a Treasure Found message afterwards). Head back to the
room where the general is/was, and take the hallway to your left. You should
follow it until you're in front of a door, so go through it. There should be
another door straight in front of you, go through it. Head up the hallway and
there should be another door right in front of you, go through it. Noh should
be in this room. You will get a mission to eliminate her(If you didn't
eliminate Ranmaru Mori on Floor 1, he will be in here as well, and this
mission will become be to eliminate both of them). So eliminate her and she
will drop a gold bar. You take either door that at the end of the room, they
lead to the same room. Head to the right where there is a small hallway.
There should be doors on your left and right and some stairs which will lead
to a trap(You will notice a yellow box on a higher level near the trap, but
Goemon can't get that, only Hanzo Hattori and Kunoichi can get things that
are in places like that). Take the door to your left. Head straight through
the door in the room you just entered. Turn right(watch out for the trap a
little ways down) and there should be a door to your right(near the trap). Go
through that door. Toshie Maeda should be in this room. Defeat him and you
can go up the stairs.
- Floor 3: Head straight then turn left. Follow that hallway until you see
the spiked walls. They close in on you. So to avoid them, run forward a
little, to "trigger" the spike walls to smash together, and as they are
coming apart, run through them there. You won't get hit this way. Get to the
end of the hall, and turn right. There should be more spiked walls, and a
yellow box. Use the same method above to get to the yellow box unharmed. The
yellow box has an item in it(time to head for the stairs). Now go the other
way from where you came and head down the hall. Turn left and go through that
door. Head down until you enter another hallway and follow it. You should
come to a room with a general in it. Defeating him is up to you. At the end
of the room with the general in it is a door, so go through it. Turn left as
you enter the next room and go through the hallway and turn left again which
should bring you to another door to go through. At the end of the room you
just entered, take the door to the right. Turn left and keep heading straight
until you get to a room with another general in it. Take the door to the
right in that room. Now head straight and then turn left in the next
room(watch out there are a lot of traps in this room). You should see the
next room, which leads to the stairs. Hanzo Hattori will appear and you will
have to defeat him to get to the stairs. Eliminate him and head up the
stairs.
- Floor 4: You should now be in the "Boss Room" with Mitsuhide Akechi and
Kunoichi in it. You only have to defeat Mitsuhide to beat the stage, so
eliminate him and you're done. Watch out for the walls though, as they flip
over to reveal spikes that hurt you.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 2 - Dance of Kyoto
Victory Condition: Keiji is defeated(takes you to upper branch) or all Oda
reinforcements are defeated(takes you to lower branch)
Defeat Condition: Okuni is defeated
Time:
This map is a little hard to navigate for most people, so I will do my best
to direct you through this "maze" of a map. Your first mission is to attack
Keiji before Okuni does and defeat Keiji and protect the Miscreant(They look
like strike ninjas/sumos). So head over to where Keiji is(he's by the south
gate near the middle of the screen). You may have noticed those walls with
the "Wanted" posters of Goemon I mentioned in section III. You can break
these, just hold R1 and aim at the wall and press S or T. Once you defeat
Keiji, he will appear again, a little to the south where you just defeated
him the first time. So head to his location and defeat him again. After you
defeat him, head towards the northwest corner of the map, as this is where he
appears again. He should appear there a little before you get there. So hurry
to his location and defeat him before he defeats the miscreant. Moments after
you defeat Keiji, Oda reinforcements will appear in the northwest corner(near
the gate). Defeat them so they won't cause any trouble for the Miscreants or
Okuni later on. A "green" mission appears to complete, if you do defeat all
ten Oda reinforcements/generals that appear, you will be taken to Goemon's
lower branch stage, which is Dance of Osaka. I will cover this later in the
stage or you can refer to section VIII. Goemon's Tale/Stage Flow. After you
defeat the Oda general in the northwest, another one appears to the east of
there(to the direct north). Defeat him so he doesn't cause any problems for
you later on. Keiji should appear in this same exact location a few moments
later, so defeat him as well. More Oda reinforcements will appear shortly
after in the northeastern corner(by a gate again). Defeat them so they don't
cause problems later on. After you defeat those reinforcements(general)
another one will appear south of where the last one appeared(to the west near
another gate). So head south(you will encounter another wall on your way, so
break it) and defeat the general. On your way to the Oda general, Keiji will
appear in the middle of the map. After you defeat the Oda general, head
towards Keiji's location to defeat him before he defeats the miscreant. By
now, MORE Oda reinforcements should have appeared to the south. Take are of
Keiji in the middle before you head towards them. Once you do defeat Keiji,
head south and defeat the Oda general. By the time you arrive to the Oda
reinforcements, Keiji should have appeared again to the southwest(by a gate).
When Keiji appears to the southwest, the mission will be green instead of
blue this time. If you defeat Keiji now, the stage will end and you will be
taken to Goemon's upper branch Stage 3 - Crossing Iga. However, if you don't
defeat Keiji now, more Oda reinforcements will appear. The next Oda general
will appear near Keiji(sometimes right by him, so be careful not to defeat
Keiji on accident if you're trying to defeat the Oda general. If you defeated
the Oda general, another one should appear to the west(near a gate) shortly
after, so defeat him. Shortly after, yet again, another Oda general will
appear as reinforcements to the north of the one you just beat(by a gate
again). Can you guess what appears after this? That's right, another Oda
general as reinforcements. He appears all the way on the other side to the
far east. I suggest you go through the west gate and go through the middle,
and exit out of the east gate to get to him. He is the very last of the Oda
reinforcements, and as soon as you defeat him, the stage will end and you
will be taken to Goemon's lower branch Stage 3 - Dance of Kyoto.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 3 - Crossing Iga(Upper Branch)
Victory Condition: Ieyusa Tokugawa is defeated
Defeat Condition: Mitsuhide Akechi is eliminated, or Ieyusa Tokugawa reaches
Nagonoura
Time: 30'00'00
Head north and take the path that is straight ahead of you. You should
encounter Hanzo Hattori soon, so defeat him. Keep heading north and you will
be in a base/fort where Tadakatsu Honda resides. Defeat him(and the Reserve
Captain if you feel like it), and it will open the doors in the upper left
corner of the base/fort. Go through the doors and head to Ieyusa Tokugawa and
defeat him. Now head inside the fort/base to the north and take out the
reserve captain. After a few moments two Ieyusa Tokugawa's will appear. If
you kill either of them now, you will fail the mission to eliminate the real
Ieyusa Tokugawa. The doors of the fort/base you are in should have closed by
now and ambush parties should have appeared in the fort/base. Just take out
the squad leaders(They're all wind ninjas I believe) and the doors will open
back up. Hanzo Hattori should have appeared by now and going after Magoichi
Saika. So provide support for Magoichi by defeating Hanzo. Don't go after any
of the Tokugawa's yet. After a few moments Hanzo should appear in the
southwest corner(by a gate) again. Head towards him and eliminate him.
Moments later the Tokugawa in the south should be revealed as the decoy. Now,
defeat Tokugawa who is in the fort/base to the northeast and the stage is
over.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 4 - Osaka Intrusion(Upper Branch)
Victory Condition: Plover Urn is acquired
Defeat Condition: Player is defeated
Time: 35'00'00
Ugh, this is probably the castle stage I hate the most. However, you can get
a Rare Item in this stage on the first floor(doesn't matter what difficulty
you're playing, you can get rare items on any difficulty). So I will be a
nice guy for once and guide you on how to get it as well as getting through
this dreaded stage.
- Floor 1: You get a mission to acquire all the treasure on Floor 1. Head up
until you get to the end of a hallway that has two yellow boxes in them. The
one on the left has the item(treasure #1) in it, the other has nothing. Now
head back out and go down until you get to another hallway. You should enter
a room with paintings on the wall to the left, a door to the right, and a
door at the very end of the room(straight ahead). Go through the door at the
very end of the room. Once you enter the hallway, ninjas will jump from the
ceiling and pound the ground which can knock you down(This happens A LOT in
castle stages so be aware of these guys). You should come out of the hallway
to a larger room. Turn left and take the door that's in this corner. You
should be in a smaller room with a box, but it only has a musou full - 5
seconds in it so it doesn't count as treasure. The door to the right leads
back to the large room, while the door straight ahead leads to another
hallway, so take that door. Head up the hallway(look out for traps) and into
the door straight ahead. To the left of the room is a box with an item in it,
so grab it. Head back to the large room and go through the other door(should
be to the left when you re-enter the large room). Follow that path until you
get to a room with a general in it. Be careful, there's nine musket units in
this room and they can be annoying, try to evade them by rolling. There is a
box with a weapon in it in the right corner(near where you enter the room).
Grab it, you can kill the general if you want, it doesn't matter. Now head
back to the room with the paintings on the wall and take the other
door(should be on your far left when you re-enter this room). Follow the path
and you will come to a path with Kunoichi in it. A mission to eliminate her
will come up so eliminate her. After you eliminate her head through the door
straight in front of you and follow the hallway until you see a door straight
in front of you. Head through that door and you'll be in a small room with
another door straight ahead. Go through that door and you will be in a room
with several traps. So avoid them while going left to get to a small hallway.
In this small hallway, barricades rise from the floor, so smash them, after
the second one, and on your way to the third one, enemies will drop from the
ceiling and try to hurt you so watch out for them. Go through the door at the
end and get the box with the weapon on it. That should be all the treasure on
the floor, which should trigger the special item report. The rare item is in
a black box near your starting location. Go back and grab it. This rare item
is the Guiding Doll, which will pin point where treasure is in a castle with
a pink dot on the map(you must equip it). Now go back to the small room where
Kunoichi was and take the door to the right. Follow the hallway and there is
another door. Go through it and then go up the stairs Note: The stairs won't
be open if you didn't get enough treasure. You don't need all of the
treasure like I guided you but just enough(you should get a message when you
have enough).
- Floor 2: Note: If you've already beat his Story mode once and you're
playing on Hard or Chaos you can get his Fifth Weapon if you do this in under
5 minutes of the stage start - NOT the floor start. At the start of the floor
you will get a mission to check all the rooms on the second floor. Run
straight ahead and go through the door. Follow the small hallway until you
get to a door leading to a small room. There's a door to the right so go
through that and you'll be in a big room(Should be a general in it). Go
through the door at the bottom left side of that large room. Head straight
until you see a door and go through it. There should be another general in
it. Head back to the large room, except turn right before you get to it and
you should be in a wide hallway. Head straight down the hallway until you can
turn right again and follow that hallway. There should be a door at the end
so go through it. Go back to where the hallway "forks" in three directions
and turn right. You should be in front of a door, which leads to another
large room(should be a general in it also). Run straight and there is a door
there. Go through it and follow the hallway to another door, which leads to a
small room. Go in the room, now go back to the large room(the one you were
just in) and go through the door in the upper right corner. Follow the path
until you see a door, which leads to another small room. There should be
another door to your right, so go through it. Head straight(avoid the traps)
and then turn right(you should see another general). Go through the door in
front of you and into the room. There should be another door in front of you
so head through there and keep going straight until you see a general. There
should be a door to your left a little past the general so go through it.
Another small room, and another general. Go through the door straight ahead
of you in the small room(the other one leads to the same place, just on a
different side). Turn left and another barricade should pop up. Destroy it
and go through the door in front of you. Now back track to the room that you
were in to get to these rooms you were just in. Take one of the doors
straight ahead of you(when you re-enter the room). Take the door on your
right(at the end of the room) and follow the hallway into another room. There
should only be one room left after this, so back track to the northwest
corner of the map(near the blue icon for the stairs) And go through the door
that you haven't smashed in(or maybe you did already). This is the last room
and the mission should then be complete...finally. Head through the other
door, follow the path until you reach the stairs and go up them.
- Floor 3: Go straight and turn right. Follow that hallway until there's a
door to the left. Enter the small room and go through the door straight
ahead. Stay on your right side and go keep going straight(should be a floor
trap and barricade). When you see a door on your left, take it and enter the
room. At the very end of the room is a door to the left, go through that
door. Head straight, then turn right, and then head straight again until you
see a door, which leads to a small room. Take the door to your right and head
down the hallway. A little ways down, Goemon will say something isn't right.
There is a hidden room behind a breakable wall with one of those "Wanted"
posters of Goemon. In this room there is an empty barrel and a box with speed
up boost. You can get it if you want to make things go faster. Once you get
to the end of a hallway and enter a different looking room, turn right.
Follow the hallway until you enter a room. In this room there should be a
door to your left(near the end), take that door, as it leads to the stairs.
Keiji is guarding the stairs however, so defeat him and go up the stairs.
- Floor 4: Go straight then turn right. Go through the hallway(there are
barricades) and enter the next room. Take the door to your left in this room.
Turn left then go through the door into another room. Keep going straight and
take the door in front of you. Keep going straight until you see a door on
your right, go through it. In this room take the door in the upper left
corner(not the one in front of you). Go up the hallway then turn left when
you see a door in front of you(don't take this one). Take this door(upper
left corner again). In this room, enemies jump from the ceiling to hurt you
again so watch out. Go through the door in front of you, there's another
hallway with more barricades. Destroy them, then go into the room where the
stairs are. Yukimaru Sanada will appear and you have to defeat him to open
the stairs. Defeat him then go up the stairs.
- Floor 5: You'll be in the Boss Room now. Goemon will talk trying to creep
slowly to find the treasure. After a few moments Hanzo will appear. Your
mission is to defeat him without making a big noise(using your cannon in
other words). However, if you defeat Hanzo doing this, the stage will end,
and you will get Goemon's second ending, which will not allow you to proceed
to Stage - 5 Goemon the Wild. So in order to get his last stage, use your
cannon. Hideyoshi will wake up and you will not have to defeat him and Hanzo.
To get Goemon's second ending, beat Hanzo without using your cannon. Either
way, this level is finally over...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 5 - Goemon the Wild(Upper Branch)
Victory Condition: Hideyoshi Toyotomi is defeated
Defeat Condition: Goemon Ishikawa is defeated
Time: 45'00'00
Your first mission will appear after a few moments. You must collect all the
treasure in the stage. There are a total of eight boxes with Goemon's
treasure(If you're familiar with the Honnouji trick then you should already
know where the locations are). First, head south and defeat the general there
and seal the gate(it's to the south) by breaking the wall. After you have
done that head back north and defeat the general up there and seal the gate.
Now head west, you should see a box to your right, this is one the treasures.
Keep heading west and defeat the general in the very north and seal the gate
there. After you do that, keep heading west until you can turn left. You
should be heading south now. Head south until you encounter another general
and defeat him. There is a box with another treasure in it. It's in a corner
near his starting location, so grab it. Wrap around the building and head to
the gate that was behind them. Seal it. Head south(there's another breakable
wall), and Ieyusa Tokugawa should have appeared by now. Mission to eliminate
him will appear. On your way to him, seal the other gate that is south of the
one you just sealed moments ago. Now head to Tokugawa and defeat him, seal
the gate that is by him as well. Keiji should have arrived to the north as
your ally by now(Notice that the Defeat Condition has changed from Goemon
being defeated to any allied officers, so be careful of that). After
defeating Tokugawa and sealing his gate, head east and you'll encounter
Hanzo. Defeat him. Now break the breakable wall that he was close to(the one
that leads north). Head north up that path until you can turn right into an
ally which is a dead-end. There is a box with another treasure in it, so grab
it. Okuni should have appeared to the southeast as your ally by now. After a
few moments a mission to rescue her will come up. So head back to where Hanzo
was and break the wall that leads to the east in order to rescue Okuni.
Kunoichi should be close by so take her out. Okuni should be rescued now, if
she wasn't defeated before you got to her. A mission to rescue Keiji(believe
it or not) will appear soon after Okuni's rescue if not before. He should be
around where Ieyusa started at or a little further north. So back and rescue
him. Head back to where a Okuni is and head north through the middle path,
which leads to a gate. There will be a huge weapon called the Destroyer. So
destroy the destroyer and seal the gate nearby. Continue to head north until
you reach the south gate. Turn left when you can(while you're still outside
of the south gate) and you will see another box that has a treasure in it, so
grab it. One of Hideyoshi's subgenerals should be in front of the south gate
so defeat him. Now go through the south gate and you will encounter Yukimaru.
Defeat Yukimaru and the gates to the north, west, and east will open. There
is a box in the "rooms" to the west and east, in the corners of each of those
areas, so grab both of them. Go through the north gate that opened(when you
defeated Yukimaru) and defeat the two subgenerals of Hideyoshi's that are
standing in front of the temple. From there, head west and then north, until
you reach the "room" in the northwestern area. One of Hideyoshi's subgenerals
is in front of the already opened gate leading to the room. Defeat him and
continue to the room. There is another treasure here, so grab it. From the
room you just got the treasure in, head east. Further down and along the
walls to the left, there is another box with treasure, so grab it. That
should be all the treasures and you will complete the mission. After a little
dialogue from Goemon, the next mission will be to eliminate Hideyoshi
Toyotomi. You have to get close to the door leading inside the temple. Goemon
will then have dialogue about opening the door. I don't think it makes a
difference in the end whom opens the door, whether you choose Okuni or
Keiji(I always got Okuni because she was always in front of the south gate).
So ask one of them and they will run to the door and open it for you when
they get close to it. Go inside and defeat Hideyoshi to end the stage, which
will get you Goemon's first ending.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 3 - Dance of Osaka(Lower Branch)
Victory Condition: Nobunaga Oda is defeated
Defeat Condition: Magoichi Saika or Okuni is defeated, or the City of Saika
is defeated
Time: 60'00'00
You start off in the center of the stage. Your first mission appears a few
moments after the level starts. You must defend the City of Saika, aka the
Reserve Captains by each gate from being defeated by the enemies. Basically
all you have to do, is defeat each of the generals by the gates. The Reserve
Captains can take care of themselves after that. And to make it even easier
for you, the enemies don't start attacking the gates until you get close to
them. So, from your starting position, head east and defeat Toshie Maeda by
that gate. After that, head west to the gate that is more to the center of
the stage(Magoichi or Okuni should be fighting there, usually Magoichi,
sometimes neither of them). Defeat Nagahide Niwa who is near that gate. Head
west again and go north when you can, and defeat Koroku Hachisuka. Go all the
way down south until you encounter Kazumasu Takigawa and defeat him. Okuni or
Magoichi should be fighting Nobumori Sakuma, and if one of them hasn't
defeated him yet, head east from where you defeated Kazumasu Takigawa and
defeat Nobumori Sakuma. Usually Oichi tries to advance toward and assault one
of the gates after the last general outside of the gates of the Oda main camp
is defeated. So defeat her before she gets too far(You can go for Noh first
which will be a mission you wouldn't get if you encountered Oichi first).
After Oichi is defeated you will get a mission to eliminate Nobunaga. So
defeat him and the stage is over. Easy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 4 - Dance of Ise(Lower Branch)
Victory Condition: Goemon Ishikawa and Okuni reach Escape Point
Defeat Condition: Okuni or Goemon Ishikawa is defeated
Time: 30'00'00
This stage is a bit annoying. Your first mission is to advance, but stay
close to Okuni. If you get to far away from her, she will complain and the
mission will fail. Another annoying thing is that Okuni stops for a lot of
the enemies, which just makes this stage all the more long. So stay close to
Okuni and try to take out squad leaders. A ninja unit will strike out in the
very beginning of the stage, so kill them or most of them and the rest will
retreat soon enough. Once you advance to the north, you'll come upon a
fort/base with Kazumasu Takigawa in it. Defeat him and any squad leaders near
him to clear out the enemies. Continue to head north(staying close to Okuni
remember) and you will come to a second fort/base with Ranmaru Mori in it. A
mission to eliminate Ranmaru Mori will appear when you get close to him. So
eliminate him and again, kill any squad leaders in the area to clear the area
of enemies. Now, you will head out of the east door of the fort/base(as this
is where Okuni goes) and eventually encounter Nagahide Niwa. Same routine,
defeat him and any squad leaders to clear the area of enemies quickly.
Continue to head east(another ninja strike force will appear so kill them
quickly) and then turn south and take the path into the center
fort/base(city?), which is where Mitsuhide Akechi resides. A mission to
defeat Mitsuhide Akechi will appear once you get close to him. So defeat him
and any squad leaders around him once again. Continue to head south after
this. Once you reach the bottom fort/base, head east again. A mission to
eliminate Hanzo Hattori will appear. You know the drill, defeat Hanzo Hattori
and any squad leaders in the area to clear out the enemies. Cross the bridge
Hazno was on and head north. You will eventually reach another fort/base
where Nobutada Oda is located. That's right, defeat him and any squad leaders
around the area. Continue to head north. Once you are get close to the escape
point, Oda troops will appear. The first mission(Advance but stay close to
Okuni) should be accomplished by this time. Now you must defeat the Oda
troops and not let them pass or reach the mark on the map(a new one appears
when you complete the first mission). I believe three waves of troops appear
and you must defeat them to end the stage. Note: I believe if you do not
eliminate Ranmaru Mori, Mitsuhide Akechi, and/or Hanzo Hattori they will
appear with each of the waves(such as Ranmaru Mori appearing with the first
wave, Mitsuhide Akechi with the second, and Hanzo Hattori with the third).
Although I haven't confirmed this yet since I've always eliminated them when
the mission appeared.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 5 - Dance of Azuchi Castle(Lower Branch)
Victory Condition: Keiji Maeda is defeated
Defeat Condition: Player is defeated
Time: 45'00'00
Another castle level...Big joy is in my heart...
- Floor 1: Go straight and take the door to your left. Once you get to the
end of the hallway turn to your left slightly and go through the door on your
left. Take the door to your right in the next room. Go down the hallway and
try to avoid the blades swinging back and forth by either rolling over the
part that they swing or try jumping over them. At the end of a hallway is a
door that leads to a small room with a general in it. You have to defeat the
general to open the door to the left. Once he's defeated, take the door to
the left, and head up the hallway. You'll see another general in this room.
Behind him is a door on to the right side, go through it. In the small room
take the door straight ahead of you and keep going straight until you see a
door to your left, go through it. Take the door to your right and turn right.
Take the door to the right side of the hallway, as this is the room that
leads to the stairs. Go up the stairs.
- Floor 2: Go straight through the door and follow the hallway that leads to
another small room. Take the door straight ahead of you in the small room.
Turn slightly left in the hallway and follow the hallway straight down.
You'll go down a small staircase and there will be a door to your left, go
through it. Oichi should be in this room and a mission to eliminate her
appears. So defeat Oichi and take the door straight ahead of you(in the small
room Oichi was in). Turn right and go through the door in the hallway. Go up
the stairs.
- Floor 3: Go straight and through the door. Turn left and take the door to
your left. Go through the door straight ahead of you in the small room. Turn
right and go through the door. When in that room, turn right and go through
the door at the very end of the room(watch out for ninjas jumping down from
the ceiling). Follow the hallway and go through the door at the end. In this
room, take the door to your right(watch out for ninjas again). Turn right and
take the door to your right. There should be a general in the small room.
Take the door to your left. Follow the hallway up until you enter a huge room
with a winding flight of stairs. Go all the way up the staircase, evading
enemy attacks by rolling on the way. Go up the stairs.
- Floor 4: Go straight and take the door to your right. Follow the hallway
until you see a door to your right, go through it. In the small room, take
the door straight ahead of you. Take the door straight ahead of you again in
the next room. There should be a general in this room. Again, take the door
that is straight ahead of you in that room. Keep going straight down the
hallway and take the door in front of you. Kazumasu Takigawa should be in
this room. He tries to warn everybody of the intruder(you) and a mission will
appear to eliminate him before reinforcements arrive. Defeat him and take the
door straight ahead. Turn left and then turn right and follow the hallway
into the next room with the stairs. Go up the stairs.
- Floor 5: Go straight and take the door straight ahead. In this room take
the door to the right. Noh should be in this small room. A mission to
eliminate her will appear. So defeat Noh and take the door straight ahead.
Keep going straight until you find a door in front of you, which leads to a
small room. Take the door to your right from the small room(watch out for
ninjas again). Go straight and then turn left(watch out for traps in this
part of the room) and go straight again. Go through the door in front of you,
which leads to the stairs. Before you go up the stairs, take the door to your
left(you'll see it when you first enter the room) Follow the hallway up(it's
a trap so watch out). Toshie Maeda will be in this room and a mission to
eliminate him will appear. Eliminate Toshie Maeda and then go back to the
room with the stairs. Go up the stairs.
- Floor 6: You'll be in the Boss Room now. You must protect Okuni from Keiji.
Defeat Keiji and the stage is over. Beating this stage will give you Okuni's
first ending.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

- How to Achieve: Soon after Okuni gets in trouble, so will Keiji. When the
mission(5F) is triggered, run to Keiji's side and defeat any enemies around
him(When I did this I had defeated just about everyone outside the gates, and
there was no one near him yet he still needed to be rescued and you still
needed to run to his side to achieve the mission, go figure).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 3 - Dance of Osaka(Lower Branch)
3A. Goddess of Victory
- Mission Details: Protect the City of Sakai from the enemy!
- How to Achieve: Finish the stage without losing any gates. Note: You might
be able to lose one or two and still achieve though I'm not sure. If you lose
three gates however you lose and the stage will end. Either way, it's not
hard to beat this stage without losing any gates.
3B. Playtime is not over
- Mission Details: Do not let Oichi's Army advance any further!
- How to Achieve: Defeat all generals outside the gates(everyone except
Nobunaga, Noh, and Oichi). Once this is done, Oichi will start advancing
towards one of the gates. Once the gates open that lead to her location, go
in and eliminate her before she seals a gate.
3C. Forbidden Love
- Mission Details: Do not allow Noh to advance further!
- How to Achieve: Do not trigger mission 3B. Before killing all generals
outside the main Oda camp, head to the southwest. Outside of the gate where
Noh is located is a Defense Guard. Defeat him and then rush into the gate and
defeat Noh before she seals a gate or before a gate is lost.
3D. Repel the Invader
- Mission Details: Do not let Nobunaga's Army advance any further!
- How to Achieve: Achieve mission 3B. After Oichi is defeated, all gates in
the Oda main camp will open. Defeat Nobunaga Oda before he seals a gate or a
gate is lost.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 4 - Dance of Ise(Lower Branch)
4A. One Mind, One Body
- Mission Details: Advance, but stay close to Okuni!
- How to Achieve: Advance all the way to the escape point(marked by an X on
the map) without failing the mission. If you get too far away and Okuni
complains twice(the first complaint is a warning, the second will mean you
failed).
4B. No one passes
- Mission Details: Do not allow any enemy troops to pass!
- How to Achieve: When Okuni and Goemon reach the escape point, enemy troops
will appear. A new mark(X) will be placed on the map. If any enemy troops
pass that point then you fail the mission. Defeat all enemy troops(there are
three waves I believe) without anyone passing and the stage will end and the
mission will be achieved.
4C. Brat in the way

- How to Achieve: Once you advance far enough to the north you will encounter
Ranmaru Mori. Eliminate him.

- Mission Details: Eliminate Noh!
- How to Achieve: Defeat Noh on the fifth floor. Refer to Walkthrough for
more information.
5D. Lineage
- Mission Details: Eliminate Toshie Maeda!
- How to Achieve: Defeat Toshie Maeda on the fifth floor. Refer to
Walkthrough for more information.
5E. Escort
- Mission Details: Protect Okuni from Keiji Maeda!
- How to Achieve: Defeat Keiji before Okuni is defeated. Note: I always
defeated Keiji before he even laid a finger on Okuni, so I am unsure if you
have to defeat Keiji before he defeats Okuni, or before Okuni is seriously
hurt. Either way, defeating Keiji quickly will achieve the mission.

X. Goemon Ishikawa's Endings
=============================================================================
First Ending("Hail to the King!"):
You must beat Stage 5 - Goemon the Wild on his Upper Branch. In order to get
his Upper Branch, play Stage 2 - Dance of Kyoto. You must defeat Keiji "once
and for all" when the mission appears in green. Do not defeat all the Oda
reinforcements, as this will take you to his Lower Branch. To proceed past
Stage 4 - Osaka Intrusion on his Upper Branch, you must use your cannon on
Hanzo(doesn't matter if you hit him) on the fifth floor when a mission
appears in green to defeat Hanzo Hattori without making large noises. When
you do use your cannon, it will wake up Hideyoshi. You will then have to
defeat both Hanzo and Hideyoshi. This will unlock Stage 5 - Goemon the Wild.
Clear that stage and you will get Goemon's first ending. For information
regarding how to beat Stage 5 - Goemon the Wild, refer to Section IX.
Subsection 2.
Second Ending("Thieves, There will always be"):
Do all that is mentioned above for the first ending. Except on Stage 4 -
Osaka Intrusion do not use your cannon on Hanzo Hattori. Defeat Hanzo without
using your cannon.
