5) Game modes
~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Rugby 2004 there are 8 game modes. Play now, Training, World Cup,
Tri Nations, Six Nations, Tour, Super 12, European Trophy and World league
each one I will break down for you
Play now - This is just a test match, or friendly. You choose one team,
take on another, pick a stadium and conditions and the most points wins
Training - this is a good way of getting use to rugby 2004. You practice
lineouts, scrums, place kicks, running etc.
World Cup - International teams beat it out to win the Rugby World Cup.
You start in pool play and you need to finish first or second.
Bonus points count so if you can lose by less than 7pts or score
5 tries you will receive a bonus point.
Tri Nations - The battle of the southern hemispheres heavy weights.
New Zealand vs Australia vs South Africa.
Six Nations - Europeans International competition. Ireland vs England vs
France vs Wales vs Scotland vs Italy.
Tour - You Are the British lions (or isles as they call it) and you choose
weither you take on South Africa, Australia or New Zealand. You have a
talent pool of all of the UK teams
Super 12 - A competition between New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.
New Zealand has 5 teams - Auckland Blues, Waikato Cheifs, Wellington
Hurricanes, Canterbury Crusaders And Otago Highlanders, Australia has
3 teams, Queensland Reds, New South Wales Waratahs and
ACT Brumbies. South Africa has 4 teams (Sorry I dont know were there
from) Bulls, Sharks, Cats and stormers. Bonus points count
European trophy - The Norths take on the super 12. Teams from the six
nations countries are split up into 6 groups of 4 teams. I cant write
all of them out because there are too many.
World league - One of the best things about the game. You are one of the
Super 12 teams or European trophy teams and you have a generic team and
you trade players to improve your team. (See Below For more)
7) World league
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
World league is where you choose a team, Super 12 or European trophy
team. This competition is 22 rounds with 3 divisions.
You have a Generic team and build it up by wining games and
score trys to get trade points. Six points for a win, one point for
every try. This part of the FAQ is to help people who cant get past
the start of world league mode, which even I find hard for the first
couple of rounds.
Starting: You start with a bad team with not alot of talent. You
also start with 12 trade points, which wont get you far. You need
to do whatever you need to to win the first 3-4 games. This is to
get a player that is reliable. I recomend that you either get J.Barker
the Canadian fly half or a wing (I chose R. CauCauinbukia.) Barker because
he has a goal kick of 95% and he is alot better than Heffler and he is worth
his trade points. The up side of Barker is that he has a reliable boot so
he can get you out of trouble and get conversions or penalties which can edge
you into the lead, after all, 6 trade points for a 1,2 or 3 point lead is
better than nothing at all. But Also a wing because you do win games on tries,
and you also get the single point for each try. But this means that you
will risk the game on poor kicking
Here is the order of who I chose in my world league campaigne:
1st: R. CauCauinbicca. (FIJI) [WG] reason, to score trys
2nd: A.Mertins. (NZL) [FH] reason, VERY good kicker, 97% kick, 95% goal kick,
I saved up for about 4-5 games for him, as i won some games with 10 trys
3rd: K.Wood. (IRE) [HK] Now you can have better Scrums and a more reliable
plus hes a captain
line out.
4th: C.Jack (NZL) [SR] Now you can rely on your lineouts. Put him in
the No.5 Jersy as then he will be at the frount of the lineout making it
easier on you.
5th: R.McCaw (NZL) (FL) One of the best, if not the best flankers out
there, put him on the openside (7) he will be a good way of turning
the ball over
From here on in, you should be picking positions
Remember that i am only recomending the positons. you can chose who
plays there youself. So here are the next positions that I filled,
just find the player that you want in because im not telling you
how to play the game just a recomendation
6th: Prop
7th: Flanker
8th: Center (12)
9th: Wing
10th: Prop
11th: Fullback
12th: Second rower
13th: Center (13)
14th: No.8
15th: Scrum half
8) Game tips
~~~~~~~~~~~
* Ive found that the Fend or "hand off" is not very effective
* The best way of scoring trys are to "draw and pass" for example,
I pass the ball to a foward on the open side, he runs through
the open side and draws in one, two or sometimes three,
then passes it. Then that player does the same, this leads to
a over lap.
* Also ive found that gaps can appear for the first five eight or
second to run through. throw a dummy pass to fool the opposition
* Alot of the good wingers can "bump off" a player. It helps if you
sidestep into them
* Most wingers defence is often not good (unless they can also play
fullback or other positions) One example of this is the legend
himself Jonah Lomu.
* If you are trapped in your 22 kick it out quick. If the opposition
turns the ball over your in trouble.
Gliches:
* Knock-on Glich: This is when you have a advantage for a penalty and the
attacking team knocks the ball on, they take a penalty kick,
and no matter what, the defending team will get a 22 drop out
* Hold left glich: This must be due to game fatuge because ive hired this game
before i bought it and it did it then, and also just recently after ive owned
it for a year and its started again. But what happens is that the selected
player runs to the left. This is easy to fix though. Just pull out the
controller out of the hole thing and put it back in.
* No Ball: This happens to me near the opponents try line. I get tackled
and the ball is stoped as in a ruck but all the players run like normal.
WHAT EVER YOU DO DONT SCORE A TRY. press /\ to grubber it, at least you
will get the ball back from the drop out...
9) My World Team
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are my personal world team. They are based on current form and game stats.
Also Being a kiwi, i am biased towards NZ but that is only due to exposue.
If we had More north hemisphere rugby it wouldent be so one sided.
But this is...
NPC team: Auckland
Super 12 team: Auckland Blues
International: New Zealand
Underdog team: Argentena - they show flair and hey they beat France and
only lost to Ireland by a last min dropgoal from 40m back
Favorite Fowards: Aucklands K.Mealamu [HK], K.Mews [PR] and Wellingtons
R.Soalialo [N8]
Favortie Backs: I would love to see Mertz [FH] back (Even though hes from
Canterbery) D.Howlett [WG], B.Reihana [WG]
Upcoming players: LUKE MCALLISTER! He was the most underrated player of
the NPC season, hes one to watch out for. O.Ai'i. Have you seen him in
the sevens? hes listed to play FH, CT and FB in the game but he can
also play SH. But since hes in the blues hes stuck on the bench
by Spencer, S.Devine/D.Gibson, M.Muilina and the other quallity
backs.
Back at the end of the 2004 Super 12, the South African rugby union
said that the southern hemisphere rugby style did not suit them
and that they would pull out of the Super12 and Tri nations. Also halfway
through the year the Pacific Island team played for the first time.
People said that it was one of the best thing to happen to P.I. rugby
for a long time because it brought in money for them. People were saying
that the P.I. team should join the tri nations. I was thinking, why
shouldent South Africa join the european nations and there can be a
competition with New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji (or the PI
team) and Argentena. Of coarse NZ or OZ will always win but it will
drasticly improve the other teams, by experiance and revenue.
Positives about Rugby 2004:
* Super 12 and European trophy - Now we have a lot more depth when
creating a team or using a international
* World League - Develop a dream team.
* Create a player - sure this aspect is a bit weak but its still
good fun making yourself or a unlisted player
Negatives about rugby 2004
* No NPC! NPC is the best rugby competition there is. Now that it is
becoming 2 divisions it will be viable too. New Zealand it the
only country who has something similar to the NPC so no other
countrys could complain too much.
* Create a Team - including a uniform, were you can get hoops aswell.
* Better graphics - im not one to complain about graphics since I
think that Jonah Lomu rugby was the best game ever!, but this game
was shocking, this even made the physics poorer aswell as side steps,
fends and dummy passes.
* more money invested - is depressing when games like Madden NFL are
getting billions and zillions of dollars put into, and is aimed mostly
at one market (The Americans) Were a game played by the rest of the
world only gets a fraction of this money. I mean if I owend a Multi
zillion dollar company, which looked like they has no was of
going down any time soon, I would make games properly, like Madden was,
or atleast made it more closer than this.
11) Faqs
~~~~~~~~
Q:Why isnt [so and so] in the game?
A:Yes I have found that some players arnt in the game, eg.
B.Reihana. I guess that he wasnt covered in a certain contract or
something, although if you look in the create a player his name
is under one of the sounds so...
Q.What are you talking about Reihana is in the game!
A. E-mail me
Q.Whos the best player?
A.Well... it depends on what position you are talking about and what
aspect you think are important. But here are some of the top players
that I have found:
* and ,the two French props are good.
*K.wood from Ireland is a excellent player, but look at Italys A.Moscardi
*Second rowers I have found to be hard to find. C.Jack is one of the best
but you will have a hard time looking for a locking partner for him
*As I said before, R.McCaw is one of the best flankers out there.
*Irelands Scrum half is a awesome passer, so is Argentenas
*Dont yell at me but im picking A.Mertins form NZ or Irelands D.Humphees
this is because of kicking, and J.Wilkinson is a left footer which I am
not use to.
*Center can be fulled by T.Umaga in either slot also B.O'Driscal is good
*I was thinking to myself, geezz theres not to many wings out there but
then I looked agian and saw a aray of quality wingers. D.Howlett (NZL),
B.Paulse (RSA), R.Caucauinbuca (FIJI), J.Robertson (ENG) just to name a
few
*All of the wingers above , bar the Fijian can play full back, but also
look at C.Cullen (NZL) and M.Rogers (AUS)
Q.No Way! [so and so] are crap!
A.Well why do you feel the need to look at my opionion?
Q. Did people really ask these questions or are you just making yourself
look popular?
A. Hey buddie, I dont tell you how to do your job.
