Rogue Galaxy is one of the earliest guides I made that also suffered similar
fate as Thousand Arms -- lost in the sea of virus. But I won't whine about it.
Anyway, this is the trial version of the full walkthrough which still
incomplete. I want to survey whether people will find it useful or not. Feel
free to send me some e-mails with your comments.

First thing first, the first battle of the game. These enemies (Baphu) can be
a little bit tricky if this is your first time playing the game and you're not
too familiar with Action RPGs. But this is your chance of many to get some
grips of Rogue Galaxy's neato battle system.
Q: Can you please explain to me how the battle system works?
Battle in Rogue Galaxy (RG) is in real-time, that means you move around the
battlefield whacking the enemies while at the same time they too can hurt
your team. Another thing is that the battle here is in the field map, and
not in battle map like most RPGs out there. So you don't have to waste time
waiting for a glass-shattering/screen-warping and black loading screen to
enter battles.
As the battle begins, your leader (the character you control on-screen) is
the only one you have to control. Other(s) have their own AI program. So,
smack all enemies by pressing X. Continuously attacking will depleted the
Attack Point, or AP, which shown on top of the characters' avatar. Press R1
to raise your guard during that time. Also, if enemy attacks during your
defensive position, the AP will automatically fill to the max.
Before proceeding, turn back towards the church. There you'll find a chest
containing two Snow Crests at the right (your right) of the entrance. Enter
the church (press X to open the door) itself to find three Heal Potions at the
left side of the door. Have some chat with the bored NPCs here if you wish.
Especially Misanna, a lady at the second row pews from behind. On side note,
although you'll encounter tons of random battle on the street, there's no
battle inside any buildings whatsoever. So you can explore them to your
heart's content without any worries.
Backtrack to the bridge. Right after you pass it you'll find a save point with
a fancy name of "Transporter". I marked it as [O] in the map (you'll find it
below) because that's the shape of its pad.
Q: Are there any other things I need to know about Transporter?
Other than saving your game, it can also be used to warp Jaster and co. to
any active Transporters in the current planet. Another thing that you should
take note about the Transporters is that they have special effect in the game
after you activated every single one of them that you find on the single
planet. Make sure to keep eyes on them. Of course I will point them out to
you in case you missed some. Because some of them are inside the place that
you'll probably never bother to explore.
Run straight and you'll be thrusted into another tutorial battle. Wipe them
off and turn left at the fork until you find two chests next to each other.
One of them is locked with...
Q: Wait! Locked chests? NO! Do they need Duplicators or something?
No Duplicators needed. This isn't Wild Arms, silly. But they did require you
to use certains keys in other to obtain the swags. Unlike Duplicators, those
keys aren't consumable, so you can use them infinitely.
...Star lock. That's why you should wait until I finished typing before asking.
I marked it as [H] in the map. [H] stands for "hoshi", which means "star" in
Japanese. You'll see later why I didn't put "S" for it.
For your information, I will list them -- the locked chests -- as well as the
normal chests so that you'll know what's inside them. Sure, this somehow will
be "spoiler" of some sort, but at least you'll know what are the things inside
them in case you wonder. Later in the game, you'll find a lot of these kind of
chests in very long-ass dungeons. Do you want to backtrack there once you get
the key only to find worthless items? I surely don't. But I have to because I
like to torture myself. Wait, that sounds wrong. Nevermind.
Let's continue. Grab three Heal Potions from the unlocked one. By the way, the
gate at the end of the alley is inaccessible for the rest of the game. What a
waste of pixels. Anyway, let's return back to the fork and head straight to
the west to the house.

Grab a Thunder Stone from nearby chest before entering. Access the status menu
and select Revelation. Pick Jaster and press X at the Flash Sword slot. Select
Thunder Stone to activate Flash Sword. Enter the house.
Q: Tell me more about this Revelation thing.
Revelation Flow is a chart for the characters to learn skills, traits, and
all manners of stuff. Each time you find any appropriate items, whenever you
access the menu you will see the Revelation section flashes. That means you
can shove some items into the available slots. If you have the correct items,
highlight will appear around the said slots and you can select them. An item
menu will appear and select whatever items required for that slot and you get
the job done. However, don't be too quick to fill the slots whenever you get
the new items because some of them are super-rare until waaaay later in the
game. I'll tell you about those rare items later.
This house houses two chests. The one near the door is locked with Earth lock,
marked as [E]. Find a ladder inside and go upstairs to find a Max Heal.
Make your way to the west for another tutorial battle. Jump into the river
when you find it. Climb back up on the other side and check the chest to the
left to get three more Heal Potions and two CO2 Powder. Activate the
Transporter and proceed for yet another tutorial battle. Break into the west
house.
The chest here is locked with Sun lock and I marked it as [S]. Climb the
ladder to get a Divine Healing. Exit and head north. Jaster will obtain the
Seven-Star Sword: Desert Seeker and a Battle Recorder. As well as a mini boss
battle.
Jaster now face to faces against two powerful Giants. Their attacks consisting
mid-air punch and ground shockwaves. These beasts can only be damaged by
smacking their heads. Use Flash Sword and jump-slash them. Beware of the
mid-air punch as it can hit Jaster when he landed. The damage is worse in this
state than ground hit. As for the shockwaves, you should see that they will
jump first before stomping HARD on the ground. Either defend to reduce damage
or jump at the right time to avoid it. Take them one by one or they will
ganging up on Jaster making the battle even worse. You get 30 EXP, 175 Zehn,
and four Heal Potions after the brawl.
Steve and Simon will join Jaster temporarily.
The east house opposite of the other one has nothing except two useless NPCs.
Just head to the south into the item shop. Grab two Heal Potions close to the
counter. Buy all Recharge Drinks and some extra CO2 Powder. The new sword:
Grand Edge also on the list, but it far inferior than the Desert Seeker. Get
it if you want to power it up for future use.
Activate the Transporter if you haven't yet and grab a Silver Bangle on your
way to the west.
Proceed again for the final tutorial battle...for now. You also can see how
dumb your new members are that keep dying one after another. Ignore their
plead if they fell unconscious. But heal them if they get injured. Ignore the
west house as it contains nothing. Head south and climb the metal pipes or
whatever to the other side. Grab a Thunder Stone under the rubble before
proceeding to the south. Get a Max Heal and save the game. Head through the
double gate.
Even though this is the first boss battle of the game, I've decided to make an
abyss-depth™ strategies for you to fight it. My strategies are not just how to
defeat it, (and the other bosses forward) but also how to avoid getting
injured by their attacks. So let us begin with our first boss.

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Its look might be fearsome and such, but actually very easy to defeat. The
first thing you have to do is activate Jaster's Flash Sword. Then quickly run
to the any of the boss' legs and slash the shackle a couple of times. However,
keep your eyes on Jaster's location. He will lost about 30 HP damage if
Salamander used its Angry Stomp on him. It's like when you stupidly tried to
touch a hot oven or lava.
After all four of its shackles get destroyed, the battle will head onto another
stage. And Jaster will receive a Monography Shot. He also has to fight alone
for the remainder of the battle because his so-called-allies will stay behind
eating popcorn.
Equip the Monography Shot immediately and shoot the boss' head to create some
footholds for Jaster to step on. Jump onto them to get closer to the boss'
weakness -- its heart. Slash it three times and the footholds will disappear,
and the boss gets pissed off and attack Jaster, knocked him down. Shoot its
head to recreate more footholds and strike its heart again to go to the final
stage. Three stages for the first boss battle? That's too awesome for words.
What you have to do now is just attack and avoid. Whenever you see the boss
begins to inhale its breath, then be prepare to get out of the way to the
adjacent areas or Jaster will get toasted with the boss' Baked Breath. If he
DID get hit from the breath, then immediately use CO2 Powder to put the fire
out, or he will suffer some continuous damages each time he attack the boss.
Not that dangerous since he only lost 2 HP every second, but still. On Fire
status is similar to Poison, except the former is weaker than the latter.
Its other attack is head swing that does weak damage, about 30 HP damage. To
avoid it, jump-slash three times and retreat.
M8S gains a new attack called Lizard Splash, which is quite pain if somehow it
manages to hit Jaster (40 HP damage), but it can easily be avoided. Run to the
opposite direction of the way that the boss will land. So if it jump in front
of Jaster, run to its original location and the attack will never hit him.
Confuse? Yeah, so am I.
Check this out:
a. Jaster (ready) <----- M8S (jump)
b. Jaster (run) -----> ?
C. M8S (land) Jaster \(^o^)/
You can also use Power Throw and toss some debris, rocks, pots and such to it
for 40 HP damage. If you want, you can left the boss alone and run around the
huge battlefield for nothing. You can find several chests here, but you can't
open them until the boss is defeated. Jokes aside, if you do everything quickly
but cautiously, it's highly possible to end this fight without any injury.

Finally, the town's music kicks in. It's calming, doesn't it? Though it kinds
of repetitive after a while. Wait, most RPG music are like that anyway.
Nevertheless, it's still good.
From the point you begin, head west toward the star icon, or Next Episode
Marker (NEM). Turn left near the gate and examine the rigged chest there.
Defuse the bomb trap to obtain an Izerium. Then head southeast to activate
another Transporter. Then head east a little and turn right to find two chests
with three Dreamflower Ashes and a Silver Bangle. Use Dreamflower Ash, Sanchez
Fruit and Hot Breath (random drops from Dragonflies and Mishes) to activate
Jaster's Desert Wind. Next run to the northwest and grab a Recharge Drink
lurking outside the house.
Head east into the gate that leads to the Spaceport. Once you get inside, go
left from the entrance to the chest with two Heal Potions. At the upper right
is another chest with two Iron Boards. Head north and exit via the gate there.
Activate the Transporter here as well. There a chest at the wall to the left
with a Snow Crest. Two more chests can be located at the right of the gate.
One of them is locked with Earth lock and the other contains three Tri-Heals.
Just for fun, head east to the end of the dock to get a breathtaking view of
the canyon. This might sound weird, but I often made a new save data JUST for
this very view (and others later) so I could see it in the future since there
will be something docked here later that will block most of your view of the
surrounding.
Transport to [Near the Church]. Three new chests have appeared here. The one
close the the Transporter contains a Cumulus Pendant. The other one next to
the church has two Resurrection in it. And finally the one next to the locked
gate that has to curse in it contains Simon's Cold Spray. Enter the church.
Finally go to NEM and talk to the guy next to the Mish, Katahari. Cough up 200
zehn to leave Rosa.

Fighting the airborne enemies in action RPG is always pain in the ass. More
over these bosses come in random set of number. I don't know if this happen to
anyone else but this time they appear in three. The first time I fought them
they only appear in two. Maybe my eyes were too tired... But they still not
hard to defeat especially if you have the right skill to waste them.
If for some reason you decided to fight them normally, then prepare for the
long battle -- they're not hard to beat, just hard to hit. They love to fly
around the Dorgenark like on crack avoiding your melee attacks, so that way
is strongly not recommended. Jaster's gun deals pitiful damage on them, but
that's the only way he can harm them if you chose this way. Kisala still can
hurt them if they get closer although it won't be enough.
So the correct solution is for Jaster to unleashes his Desert Wind twice to
knock them into next week.

On the deck, another quick message will appear telling you about game overs.
True, the "dreaded" game over screen can get on your nerve soon enough. So if
you don't want to see it, two things you need to do. First, obviously, heal
the vanguards before they croak. Second, if somehow they croaked, right after
all of vanguards went "DOWN DOWN DOWN", press Start and then square to soft
reset the game. That way it will be quicker rather than waiting for the game
over screen.
Moving on, activate the Transporter on the deck, then take the gondola down.
Activate yet another Transporter and continue forward. Open the chest near the
guy here to obtain a Jaster's Graverosse gun.

Proceed on the linear path into the Path to Burkaqua. After some walks/runs
you will get into another tutorial battle. This time about status ailments. To
avoid getting poisoned by poisonous poison, use Desert Wind to wipe them off.
Grab four Sanchez Fruit on the way forward.
More tutorial battle ensues. Now it's about jump-to-reveal-weakness type of
enemies. Don't forget to snatch Zegram's Bolt Shuriken from the chest nearby.
Activate another Transporter once you reach the intersection. Head north to
initiate the first Challenge Battle: Defeat All Enemies in 30 Seconds.
Q: Challenge Battle? What is it this time?
What it said on the tin. There are several more challenges such as Defeat All
Enemies Without Using Skills/Items, Defeat All Enemies with X Alone, etc.
Every successful completed challenges will be rewarded with Hunter Coins,
which is useful later to trade for Key Items that let you buy rare items and
gains some discounts.
Proceed forward and keep an eye on the Earth locked chest nearby. At the end
of the path you'll find a massive gate/statue of some sort. Backtrack to the
Transporter and head to the west end. Here you'll find a chest with red lock.
Examining it will trigger a battle.

Our old "friend" Mimics that invaded various video games since the beginning
of time. In this game they are harder and meaner and uglier and whatever. Once
you have decided to examine them, be sure to raise Guard to restore "Surprise
Attack!" effect on the character's AP. The strategies to defeat them are:
a. Kisala's Ice Dagger. This skill will temporarily froze Mimic on its ass. So
use that opportunity to go all-out on it before it gets thawed.
b. Jaster's Flash Sword. This skill has moderate chance to inflicts Shock on
Mimic. It acts similar to Poison although not that strong. See: On-Fire.
However, since Mimic has quite high HP, you will see big chunks of them get
deplete every second. With Ice Dagger combined, this battle will be cinch.
c. Jaster's Monography Shot. Shoot Mimic with it and a foothold will appear
on its head/lid. Make Jaster jumps on it and let him bounces on it until
the foothold disappears or the Mimic bites the dusts. Each stomp will take
about 10% to 15% of its MAX HP. With the other party members smack it at
the same time this battle can end quicker that you can think of.
d. Jaster's Freeze Shot. This will appear later and has the same effect as the
Ice Dagger.
e. Use Burning Strike on them for massive damage. Especially after combined
with Zegram Drunken Burst.
Sure, all of these strategies sound cheap and will rape the difficulty of the
fight -- kinda like Vanish/Doom in FFVI. Especially the third one. If you want
to fight it fair and square...
f. Use someone to distract it -- preferably Jaster -- so it will turn its back
on the other party members. That way the other two will receive less to no
damage while attacking the Mimic. Heal whenever necessary.
Beware, Mimic's level of difficulty will increase as the story progress. So you
can expect to find one or more that will rival the boss of that area. Hell,
there are some that are tougher than... Okay, I stop that for now or I will
ruin the fun. Later!

Now head back to the intersection and follow the NEM's lead. But head west at

Snatch three Heal Potions and continue north at the intersection. Here you'll
find a chest with two Hellpot Flames. You also get an Insector Trap I along
with Rearing Cage I as you proceed. After you reach the village, return to the
intersection and head a little to the west to get a Tri-Heal. At the west end
you'll find two chests; the left one contains Pirate's Grog, while the other
contains Mimic. Return to the intersection and head east to the Transporter.

The first true boss in the game. This one packs quite a painful punch. Though
I never seen it uses its fists. Not only it has high strength, but plentiful
amount of HP and agility don't help either. So you need to hit it faster and
harder.
Since this is the first boss you fight with full party, you need to take care
of them as well as your leader. Like most RPGs, losing one or two members at
the end of the battle will get them no EXP. So be sure to keep an eye on them
to prevent fatalities.
The best way is to lure it to attack/chase Jaster and let Zegram and Lilika
smack it from the other side. Or you could control someone else and activate
Jaster's Flash Sword and let his AI do the work.
However, it has a very painful lightning elemental attack which I called
"Electrocutioner". This attack hits everything on the screen multiple times for
heavy damage. So it's wise to keep everyone's HP above 300 most of the time. Do
not hesitate to use your healing items. You can always buy them back so use just
them.
Another one of this boss' signature attack is Frog Splash. It's similar to
Salamander's Lizard Splash, so just use the same strategy to evade it. \(^o^)/

Seconds later, a new ally, or should I say..."item" will join your team.
Q: What's the deal with this toad anyway?
This "thing," Toady -- or Mazeru (Mazell) in Japanese version, which sounds a
whole lot cooler -- is a purple frog that will help you on your quest by
eating your sub/weapons and upgrade them to be more powerful than before.
Whenever you've obtained/bought new sub/weapons, access Toady from the item
section in status menu and command it to "detect" the equipments, and it will
give you some recommendations about combining that particular sub/weapon.
"Detecting" and "combining" sub/weapons are necessary requirements to
complete one of the side quests later.
Return to the Transporter to save the game and return to the spring area.
There are two chest here containing two Divine Healings and a Yago Milk. I
thought you can only find Yago at Rosa. Whoops. The chest at the northeast of
this area contains Mimic. Now let's return to Burkaqua.

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Activate the Transporter and enter the southeastern house. Climb the ladder
inside to get a Mellow Banana. Exit and head north to the watchtower. Climb it
to find three Recharge Drink. Jump down and head straight to the herd area,
grab three packs (?) of Juraikan Coffee Beans. The house next to it has an
Earth locked chest. Get the unlocked one byclimbing the ladder. Grab a pair of
Star Earrings from it. Or is it only one? Nevertheless, save this item later
use.
Go up the hill behind this house into another one. This one house contains a
shop with items and new equipments. Climb another watchtower at the north side
of the village to obtain an Ancient Scroll I. Continue north to the end and
get two Heal Potions. Activate the Transporter and glance through the
breathtaking view of this area. Return to Burkaqua.
The northwestmost house is the one you should go to continue. Grab a Spirit
Bell in the herd area at the right of the house before approaching it.
Re-enter the chief's house and grab the Earth Key from the chest next to him.
Before continue with the story, warp to Creekside and head north. Unlock the
locked chest with Earth lock by using the Earth Key to obtain Steve's Dynamite
Hands. Okay, that sounds ridiculous.
Additionally, this is the only time in the game that you can travel in Juraika
at night. So if you feel like doing it, mess around and fight some battle at
the night version of Juraika. Oh, and don't forget to head north of Burkaqua
to the area with another breathtaking view that I told you earlier. Now return
to Burkaqua and approach the southeastern house.
Next day, go through the gate right in front of you and open the chest to get
a Medusa's Locks. Head north when you hit a fork. Activate the Transporter and
go left to get a Broken Freeze Shot. Continue that way and grab three Heal
Potions and a Magic Lipstick. Run around the ship to the northwest and open
the chest to obtain Zegram's Frozen Slasher. You should see a chest at the
over looking near the waterfall, get four Hoho Bird Feathers from it. Finally,
the chest across from the Transporter has Ancient Scroll I in it. Return to
the fork and head south.
When you hit another fork, go west first. Activate the Transporter and buy
some precious stones from the merchant. Open the chest for two Queen Bee
Stingers. Backtrack to the fork and head south this time. You'll find another
Mimic along the river.
Go pass the Transporter to another weirdo's house. And you'll get the Freeze
Shot fixed. Grab two Myriad Branches and a Ruby before leaving. There's a
chest inside the house with Star lock. Warp back to the Waterfall and find an
island at the river with a Thinking Circle on it. Examine the Circle and use
Freeze Shot and Monography Shot. What's the purpose of Freeze Shot when you
can just create some footholds anyway!? I once thought that freezing the
waterfall will stop the water from splashing Jaster and co. so they don't get
washed away. But that's what I thought. I hope someone can tell me what its
purpose is. Hop onto those footholds and open the chest on the way to get a
suit of Jungle Coat. Continue going up.
Swim to the west and the second area that you can walk on has a chest with a
Snow Crest in it. Continue toward NEM.
