V 1.0 - October 26, 2004 - Capcom customer support announced via
telephone to me and with an announcement at their BBS that they will be
flushing the database on 10.31 when they move servers. They cite also
that this flush will help remove (what they should have been pruning)
cheated ranks. I feel like their action comes too late and ignores the
efforts and success of those who played downtown (where initially no
cheating was possible). I feel they should have pruned, not flushed,
all along and any resets should have happened before Monster Hunter
took all my friends (like Deuss) away.
I will not update from the internet webpage
again due to a recent listing of cheats that work downtown at the gamefaqs
message board for this game. There are two clowns who expect us to believe
that two players better than S ranked DD (and every scenario) for speed
and points in one night. I will not include them in this FAQ. This archive
is transcribed from the posted internet database at Capcom this morning.
I also see no reason to provide another blacklist of players
that cheat. Many of these results show obvious signs of cheating. Examine
the Uptown ranks and observe that in some speed rank cases that all 4
players survived, yet only one ranked. Thats a clear sign of a lag cheat
from an HD loader room-host hacked game. Until the 3rd week of October
2004, the only place that "dumb enemy AI" would work is in a game that
you-created-the-room-for in a Free Mode Uptown game.
Since I did not create or maintain the database, I cannot also
bind anyone to not make their own text archive. Capcom cannot come after
me for copying their material either, because they posted my real name
to an internet database without my permission. I can do what I want.
If I had the option to opt out of the rankings from the onset, I most
certainly would have. My member data net file would have been enough...
and any rankings could have been at an audience scrutinized tournament.
However, I can insist that no one cite me. I use my real name
and I have been sometimes painfully honest about my shortcomings, and
that affords me an authority that I will not lend to someone else.
If you do copy this database... you had best not change it and say it
came from me. I will exercise both a foolishly large amount of money
and time to punish you in a lengthy and monetarily unrewarding trial
to make an example of you... so help me God.
Moreover, I don't so much seek to blow my own horn for doing
well at this game as I insist that people see and remember those who
played well downtown on DVD. Players like Koroshiya_1 and nollie were
in games with me and ranked speed and points... and I will not see
those diminished. I got HDD later and did better for both points and
speed at all 20 categories, but thats not the point. The point is that
I remember them and I owe latter success to their early plays. This
FAQ is mostly my way of saying: "Thank you. Good game."
Initially I intended to transcribe both servers at once, but
the transcription of the downtown server took several hours... and
the uptown server has four times as much data to transcribe due to
the entire team being listed. I will include the ranks for that server
in one more update and then consider this a final document. If you would

not come back out to play though. The new cheats for downtown make me
so angry that I will not play until Capcom not only empties but closes
the database.

| WHAT IS DOWNTOWN SCENARIO MODE? |

Downtown Scenario Mode offered the opportunity to play right away after
entering a downtown lobby. The game would begin 60 seconds after the first
person entered a lobby. In the first few months of play, the other 3 player
spots would be filled by the next three people to come along. You couldn't
really be sure who you might be playing, although their costumes sometimes
gave you a hint. The initial announcement at launch of the game mentioned
that players on "friend lists" would be pulled toward you downtown so that
you could play with your favorite people more often. The announcement read
something like: 'you and friends may wind up in "other worlds" and we are
working to improve this process.' Most of my regular teammates as of
October are the same players I met downtown in February and March and
we fumbled without a guide through each of the levels which grew in
difficulty setting each time we cleared DD downtown on all of our loads.
The reason I liked downtown better was because it by definition only
allows the regular 8 start characters into a game. You can start them "new"
in a costume, but once saved you cannot change this costume. Costumes as
opposed to "others" do not come with strength/damage multipliers and they
are not possessed of super speed. Anything you can do with regular Jim,
is to me, more meaningful than anything you can do with Mr. Green.
Moreover, the most common cheat seen uptown is that players enter
a room at 0-10 hours of play with 10% kevin and 90% others... but they
enter as U.S.S.1. - which is not possible without a codebreaker. So downtown
was a safe haven to play with honest players. Yes, I know things gained
offline can be used online, but the points total would also have to be
greater than most I have seen.
Perhaps the most important aspect of downtown is that it has
no "easy" difficulty available. To play downtown at all you'd start at
"normal" difficulty and then advance to "hard" and "very hard" as you
cleared each scenario on differing difficulties with different characters
multiple times. I still don't know what the exact number is and it took
some of my regular friends several weeks before they had a particular
scenario given to us on Very Hard. Of amusing note I did, in fact, openly
dare many in the cheater teams and clans to do anything downtown without
their precious room host cheats or "easy" difficulty... and they actually
did pretty good, but prove that they aren't as good as their corresponding
uptown ranks might suggest. Ha ha.

| WHAT IS UPTOWN FREE MODE? |

The Uptown Server Free Mode had a toppage to "recruit your favorite
players" and get them to join a game you could create/request by making a
room in any of 40 areas. Uptown is a kind of Practice Area where all the
extra "others" type characters could be used. For instance a UBCS1 starts
with First Aid Spray, More Hit points than Kevin, faster speed than Kevin,
and came with a 1.18 damage multiplier that nullified the 80% penalty for
long range 45 potshots. UBCS1, Stickmen, Greg, et al: can only be used Uptown.
The best real attribute of Uptown Free Mode is that it lists all
four members of your team for speed or points. Downtown Scenario Mode was
sorely in need of this team listing all along.
In the initial months of the game most rooms were correctly used
with passwords and much planning took place beforehand. In the latter months
when downtown became less populated... all those who wanted to "go now" would
invade non-password games and pester you to start the game without planning.
File 2 claims to support a boot feature and a chat filter so this annoyance,
at least, will be remedied.
One particular team/clan with a webpage and message board supplied
its members with information on using HD loader and raped the Uptown
database with speed hacks via room host cheats... without even owning
a copy of the game. I sent links for posted webpage evidence to Capcom and they
didn't respond by pruning those ranks... so I later forwarded the same links
to the FBI software piracy address. They may not be doing anything right now,
but at least its enough to have a file opened on the webpage owners.
But I digress...
