This guide was intended to avoid spoilers as much as possible. Cut-scene
descriptions of story elements will only be used as an event identifier. That
being said there ARE SPOILERS CONTAINED WITHIN THIS GUIDE. One of them is a
paramount part of the story that effects character recruitment in a very large
way. I have tried to dance around this several times and have been unable to
do so in a way that is spoiler free. Additionally, my descriptions may contain
some slight spoilers, so be warned going forward. I did my best to avoid them
as much as possible however, and there are less than any recruitment guide or
walkthrough I have seen yet, as no bosses are identified and only those events
directly related to the recruitment of the character that can be missed are
referenced.
Radiata Stories is a game containing a total of 177 characters in Radiata
Stories. You start with 2, and 175 can be recruited to help you. Out of these
175 recruitable characters, there are 51 that can be missed. Some of these 51
are VERY DIFFICULT to miss and you almost have to be trying to do so. The most
enjoyable part of the game is figuring out the schedules of these characters
and determining how to recruit them in my opinion. There is no guide to insure
that you do not miss any characters as you progress through the game figuring
out how to obtain them, but rather countless guides showing how to obtain
every single character. This to me takes the fun away, and since there was no
guide to only insure you do not permanently miss anyone as you go through,
that is the intention of this guide. There is nothing more frustrating than
learning you cannot get several characters because you failed to watch a cut-
scene early in the game or didn't think you could recruit someone yet when you
in fact needed to. This guide allows you to enjoy the primary element of this
game without permanently missing characters.
If this style of game play is not your cup of tea then there are many other
guides available at www.gamefaqs.com with specifically what you are looking
for. Here are some recommendations depending on your goal:
1. There is a recruitment guide by wrp103 that contains information on how to
recruit every character in the game broken down by where you are at in the
game and who is newly available at that time. It is a great resource for
recruiting any given character or every character.
2. A Darkstar Ripclaw has a complete game walkthrough available for use. It
has checklists to make sure you do not miss characters and a complete bio of
each character including their schedules and recruitment requirements.
3. Takir has a Step-By-Step Guide for recruiting every human character while
leveling and planning for future runs through the game. It is based on time
of day and keeps you busy. It is designed to be followed from beginning to end
keeping a close eye on the in game clock without skipping steps.

The Split **SPOILER**: &Split

Here is the major spoiler that I could not avoid and still have this guide
make sense to you. Halfway through the game the humans and non-humans go to
war and you need to choice whether you will side with the humans or the non-
humans. If you side with the humans all non-human characters in your friends
list become unusable for the remainder of the game, and you cannot recruit any
additional non-human characters. The same is true of you choose the non-human
side in that you can no longer recruit any additional human characters and can
no longer use the ones you have recruited. Characters of an opposing faction
that you can no longer recruit are NOT COUNTED AS CHARACTERS YOU CAN
PERMANANTLY MISS. With Strong from Start (New Game Plus) available, think of
this as two entirely different games where you can keep some of your stuff the
second time through. As a result, there will be to separate walkthroughs below
depending on the path you plan to take to insure you don't miss characters for
your given path.
If this is your first time through my personal recommendation would be to
choose the human path first. There are many more characters available for
recruitment early on and it will help get you used to more complex schedules.
Additionally, the story progression is slower and I think it compliments the
story better by doing the human path first and then the non-human path (better
story/ending in my opinion). Additionally, you have more human characters
available for recruitment early on which helps your first time through. The
choice is of course up to you, and either path can be chosen however.

Here is the list of characters that can be permanently missed. Humans are
listed first sorted by guild, followed by non-humans which are broken down by
race. Please note that some of these characters are very difficult to miss and
you almost have to be trying to miss them in order to do so, while others are
very easily if missed. If it is AT ALL possible to miss them they are listed
here regardless of how easy it is to get them prior to their becoming
permanently unavailable. An example of this would be the only way to miss
Star/Sebastian is to be rushing through the game and skipping missions that
will cause you to miss many other characters as well. Also, keep in mind that
some characters can be permanently missed because they require you to have
missed out on other characters. For example, to miss Herz you need to first
miss Caesar, and to miss Caesar you need to first miss Aldo by using or
throwing away the Book of Fairies. Anyway, here is the complete list:

It is decision time already. This guide is broken down into two very distinct
and different parts. If you will be taking the Human Path, continue reading
below. If you will be taking the non-human path search down for & Fairy
(without the space) and start from that point. Even before the split takes
place the guides are different and focus on who from that faction can be
permanently missed prior to the split.

Character recruitment and your ability to miss characters begins once you
receive an explanation of the friends list and setting up your party. Clive is
nice enough to recruit himself for you, and from that point forward the fun
begins. Prior to this time just go with the flow and enjoy the often comical
scenes.
Have fun recruiting people and putting a party together after Clive joins. You
will begin the Crocogator Mission automatically after a full day of game time.
You will lose control of your party and what parts of town you can leave at
this point, but it is still a great time to recruit characters and prepare an
initial party for after this mission since you don't have time restrictions
with regard to advancing the story. If this is your first time through I would
explore Radiata City very extensively here, but it is of course up to you. You
can avoid advancing the story for as long as you feel necessary by not going
to the Elf Region and completing the mission. DO NOT COMPLETE THE CROCOGATOR
until completing the paragraph below or you will advance the story before you
are ready and can potentially miss out on some characters.
Failure to follow this paragraph can cause you to permanently miss out on
Edgar, Fernando, and Kain.
You must talk to Edgar when he is spying on Fernando through his window. He is
doing this between 1:50 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. He will ask you to obtain
Fernando's belt. Go into Fernando's room and kick the bucket in the bottom
right corner to obtain the belt. Once you have the belt you MUST TALK TO
FERNANDO before giving the belt to Edgar. I have never experienced this
personally, but apparently if you wait to long to talk to Fernando about it
Edgar becomes un-recruitable, and thus Fernando and Kain also become un-
recruitable if this happens. Once you have Edgar you can no longer miss out
permanently on any characters at this point in the game. Whenever you feel
ready go ahead and complete the Crocogator mission or continue recruiting.

Complete Crocogator Mission to Advance Story &Hmn1

DO NOT ENTER YOUR HOUSE BETWEEN 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. until completing this
section. This will advance the story and cause you to miss characters.
Now you have the ability to explore some more without Jarvis herding you back
to the path at hand. One region you do not need to go to for a while but CAN
explore is the Septum Region. If you go here early be careful as there is a
chest containing the BOOK OF FAIRIES. DO NOT SELL OR USE THIS BOOK as it will
cause you to miss Aldo, Caesar, Herz, Elwen, and Nyx if you do. Instead give
it to Aldo before it accidently gets used. If you feel you are high enough
level and want to get this temptation out of the way feel free to go get the
book and give it to Aldo now. The Septem Region can be reached by exiting the
Radiata Lupus Gate. Run past the journey pig and continue straight past the
path to the broken bridge and Nuevo village. Just past Nuevo village take your
first left and cross the bridge to the Septem Region. Note: The book is not in
the cave, but more difficult enemies are. Unless you have levelled up a lot
already you may want to avoid the cave and look outside of the cave in this
region for the book. If you decide not to do this now don't forget to save
this book, as I won't remind you again.
After completing the Crocogator mission you will have three solo missions
available from Thanos. Talk to Thanos to pick them up. You must complete all
three of them in order to guarantee you do not permanently miss any Human
Characters. If you fail to complete any here is who you will miss for each
mission:
"A Masterpiece of Fantasy" - Thanos, Elwen, Nyx
"Beasts by the Bridge" - Thanos, Elwen, Nyx, Elef, Hip, and Ryan.
"Smilodon Fang" - Thanos, Elwen, Nyx, Dwight, Grant, Elena, Adina, Kain
Additionally, before advancing the story and after completing the Beasts by
the Bridge mission you need to have spoken to Thanos and gotten you pay for
this job. The day following this mission or any day after completing this
mission before advancing the story you must run back to the bridge and talk to
Elef again to avoid permanently missing Elef, Hip, and Ryan. Elef will tell
you he left the blueprints at the Peaceful Pony Inn. Run back to Radiata and
talk to Virginia in the inn to get the blueprints, and bring them back to Elef
before advancing the story.
Now you are ready to advance the story by entering your house between the
times specified. If you see the scenes with Sheila prior to completing this
section I recommend you reload a previous save as you will miss out on
characters.

Enter your house between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. - Scenes with Sheila &Hmn2

From this point on talking to Thanos between 6:00 p.m. and Midnight will
advance the story. This isn't so bad though because there is nobody you can
permanently miss here, so feel free to go talk to Thanos if you are ready to
advance the story. You may have to wait until after midnight before these time
restriction take place, so if you want to advance the story right away just
sleep and then talk to Thanos.
There is another mission available called "Vexatious Vermin" that is
available, however it is still available after advancing the story so I will
cover it in the next section and recommend that you just advance it here.
There is nobody new available to recruit between this event with Shiela and
the previous one, but there are people you could have missed by now if you
failed to follow the earlier instructions. You could put the story on hold
indefinitely provided that you do not talk to Thanos between those times, but
I recommend you just advance it here to open many more characters up for
recruitment.

Talk to Thanos between 6:00 p.m. and Midnight to advance the Story &Hmn3

After the Link Tutorial you are in control of recruitment again. Despite
Thanos telling you this countless times, DO NOT GO TO VANCOOR SQUARE or you
will advance the story. You have many more characters available for
recruitment as usual between these steps, and also some you can miss outlined
here as usual.
Pick up the "Vexatious Vermin" mission immediately after the Link Tutorial if
you did not do it early in the previous section. Failure to complete this
mission will cause you to miss Thanos, Elwen, Nyx, Daniel, Elena, Adina, and
Kain permanently.
Typically you can only recruit either Jarvis or Giske depending on what you do
and say, which makes you miss the other one. It is possible to recruit both
however if you follow these instructions exactly. If you did not recruit both
of them reload your last save and be sure to follow the instructions. Failure
to recruit Jarvis will cause you to miss Elwen and Nyx as well, but missing
Giske will only cause you to miss Giske. The steps to get both are as follows
below:
1. Go to Carl's Pub and talk to Giske when he is working (Starts at 3:00 p.m.)
Agree to collect from the irresponsible drinkers for him.
2. Go to San Patty Accessory's when Jasmine is there to collect her payment.
3. Talk to Jarvis, answer "Okay". (If you say "No Way" you miss him)
4. Spend all of your money. You MUST HAVE LESS than 5000 dagols when you do
step 5.
5. Talk to Giske with less than 5000 dagols. He insists you pay for Jarvis
since you let him off easy.
6. Get more than 5000 dagols again and talk to Giske. He joins.
7. Talk to Jarvis, he joins.
There are no other characters you can miss permanently at this time, so when
you are ready to advance the story or if you want continue recruiting feel
free.

Go to Vancoor Square to advance the story - Watch the Scenes &Hmn4
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DO NOT GO TO JACK's HOUSE BETWEEN 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. now. Doing so will
advance the story and cause you to miss out on many characters that can be
missed during this part of the game.
There are now some additional missions available from Thanos. You ultimately
need to complete all of them so as not to miss characters, but there is a
special event that happens after one of the missions, so I would recommend
that you do the "Ultimate Battle" mission FIRST. Failure to complete this
mission will cause you to miss Ursula, Curtis, Gerald, Nocturne, Thanos,
Elwen, and Nyx.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER DEFEATING THE GOLEM run to the Void Community (Club Vampire
in the Beast Pit) and you should see a scene with Nocturne, Elmo, and Joquel.
IF THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN LEAVE AND RE-ENTER. If it still doesn't happen WAIT
UNTI AFTER MIDNIGHT and enter. This event must occur otherwise you will miss
Gerald, Elwen, Nyx, and Nocturne permanently. Judging from what I see in a
quick glimpse of the boards at www.gamefaqs.com this is commonly where people
miss out on characters and are unable to get them. Nocturne will offer you a
letter to take to Gerald. YOU MUST SAY YES! Accept the letter from Nocturne
and run immediately to Gerald and deliver the letter to him. He will stay in
his room on the Third Floor of Theater Vancoor during the entirety of this
event instead of following his normal schedule. After you have given the
letter to Gerald and enjoyed these scenes head to Club Vampire for some more.
Next go to Elwen's office on the Fourth Floor of Theater Vancoor for some more
scenes. Go to the Faucon Gate and watch the last of the scenes pertaining to
this event. You have now guaranteed the ability to recruit Gerald and
Nocturne, the two characters most easily missed due to failure to start this
event by most people going through the game. There is no direction to start it
and advancing the story after the "Ultimate Battle" mission causes you to miss
it permanently.
You now have three additional missions to complete before advancing the story.
I will list them below along with the characters you will permanently miss if
you fail to complete any of them:
"Creatures of the Sewer" - Tony, Thanos, Elwen, Nyx
"Treasure of the Goblin Cemetery" - Thanos, Elwen, Nyx
"Gonovitch's Dilemma" - Thanos, Elwen, Nyx
The next few paragraphs deal with characters that must be recruited before the
split otherwise they will be permanently missed. I recommend getting them all
right now otherwise the story starts progressing very quickly to the split and
you may miss your chance.
I believe you can get Gregory even after the split the first time through the
game, but have confirmed that you definitely cannot get him after the split on
a New Game Plus. I don't trust waiting either way, so I recommend you talk to
Gregory until he asks for Dwarf Liquor, and go get his Liquor from Oleg in
Earth Valley. Give it to him so that he joins.
Check to see if you have recruited Christoph. If you have, then skip this
paragraph. If not check your inventory and make sure you have at least 5
Gobpakken Seeds which are one of the requirements for recruiting Christoph. If
not go to the Elf region and kill green plants until you have 5, otherwise you
cannot get them after the split causing you to miss Christoph, Jill, Curtis,
and Nyx permanently. If you have at least 5 now do not sell them (or if you do
go get 5 more before the split). The other item needed to recruit Christoph is
available both before and after the split.
Dennis must be recruited before the split. Failure to do so will cause you to
miss Dennis, Thanos, Elwen, and Nyx. Talk to him first when he is the Triton
Squad Locker room until he repeats himself (He is there from 8:00 a.m. to
11:00 a.m.). After this talk to him when he is near the journey pig outside
the Lupus Gate (From 9:20 p.m. until 7:10 a.m.) until he tells you about the
evening bloom. Make sure he has told you about the evening bloom that he
wants. Go to the Elf Region during the night (when the clock shows a moon and
not the sun, between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.). Find the evening bloom in the
Elf Region and return it to him so that he joins.
One of the steps to guarantee that you do not permanently miss recruiting
Adele is to talk to her until she repeats herself before the split. She is in
the Tria Region either inside the house or by the well. Be sure to do this and
be sure she repeats herself before you stop talking to her.
Bligh must be recruited any time before the split. Now is a good time to get
him out of the way and make sure you have him. First go to Nuevo village. He
is in the field or in bed most of the day, so you need to catch him either
going to the field from his house or from his house to the field. Talk to
Bligh who will tell you about his missing pipe that was taken by a goblin.
Take the Journey Pig to the Dorse Region (where you went for "Treasure of the
Goblin Cemetery") and run through Shangri La and out the other side. Talk to
Brie (Goblin with pointy thing on his head). Depending on the time of day he
may be listening to Donkey playing music or standing just to the left of
Donkey's stage. When confronted about the pipe he will attack you. Beat him
and then run inside Shangri La and look for the sparkling object on the
ground. This is the pipe so pick it up and return it to Bligh to recruit him.
Finally, you are now done with all of the characters that can be permanently
missed at this point in the game. Whenever you are ready and done recruiting
additional characters enter your house between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. to
advance the story.

After the cut scenes with the Birthday are over, wait until 3:00 p.m. and you
will get an additional cut scene.
After this the only way to advance the story is to complete the required
"Stone of Miracles" mission from Thanos. Feel free to recruit people or pick
up this job and complete it whenever you are ready to advance the story. If
you followed all the instructions up to this point there is nobody else that
can be permanently missed here. If you want to recruit people feel free as you
are not limited by when you can sleep or enter your house which makes it much
easier to control the time of day.

Complete the "Stone of Miracles" mission. Talk to Kain then Thanos. &Hmn6
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sleeping will advance the story here. Once you advance it again you will
quickly begin a path toward the "Split" that cannot be stopped or halted, so
be prepared before you sleep. DO NOT SLEEP until you are ready. This may be
time based so advancing the story may require you to sleep more than once or
simply wait an amount of time first and it will proceed whether you are ready
or not. I haven't confirmed whether sleeping is required or it is purely time
based, but I had to sleep more than once when I tried to advance it here.
There is one new mission to complete here in order to avoid missing any
additional characters permanently. It is called "Top Secret Mission." Failure
to complete this mission will cause you to miss the infamous three, Thanos,
Elwen, and Nyx. I recommend completing it quickly as the story may advance
without you as I outlined in the above paragraph.
After the first set of scenes it is again time based and will advance whether
you want it to or not. Nothing else can be missed so continue sleeping and
watching the scenes until you find yourself at the Heliford Gate and unable to
enter Radiata again (temporarily).

Sleep, and Watch the Scenes &Hmn7

After sleeping and watching the scenes you have to run to Earth Valley on
foot. Once there watch more scenes. After these scenes take the Journey Pig
back to Radiata. DO NOT ENTER YOUR HOUSE otherwise you will advance the story
and miss a critical mission.
Without entering your house after these events go to Thanos and accept the
mission "Build that Body". Complete this mission otherwise you will miss out
on the three people who have been named countless times, Thanos, Elwen, and
Nyx.
Once you have completed this mission and gotten your pay from Thanos, you can
continue recruiting or enter your house (eventually you need to enter your
house to save, so you can't put the story on hold forever anymore at this
point. You may need to sleep once to get the clock after midnight before
entering your house advances the story.

will come soon on its own.
Since this portion of the guide is aimed at the human side of the story you
need to choose to go to the Castle and DO NOT FOLLOW RIDLEY.

After all of the events at the Castle are finished, you are in control again.
You now have many more characters available for recruitment, so feel free to
take the time trying to recruit as many as you can. There are no other
characters that can be permanently missed here at this point. When you are
ready to advance the story a little bit go to Carl's Pub and talk to Jasne.
After that go sleep and watch the scenes. I went straight from the castle
while it was already dark, talked to Jasne, and slept to advance the story
with no problem and giving me a day bright and early to start recruiting the
new characters now available (since you are awoken at about 4:30 a.m. after
these scenes).

Do NOT go to Wind Valley yet as instructed. Doing so will advance the story,
and cause you to permanently miss out on some characters.
Talk to Thanos and you will see he has two new missions available. Failure to
complete either one will result in the permanent loss of the following
characters:
"Please Stop Lord Star" - Star, Sebastian, Thanos, Elwen, Nyx
"The Real Ultimate Battle" - Ursula, Curtis, Thanos, Elwen, Nyx
Once these missions are completed feel free to recruit more people. There
aren't too many places outside of Radiata that the game will let you visit
right now. When you are ready to advance read below.
Dynas cannot be used in your party throughout the game, however he must be
temporarily recruited for use in your friend lists. To do this you must REMOVE
ONE PERSON FROM YOUR PARTY AND DO NOT PUT SOMEONE ELSE IN THEIR PLACE. When
you go to Wind Valley for the next part of the story you want to only have
three people in your party with ONE OPEN SPOT. This will cause Dynas to join
you for a single fight and be added to your friends lists. Failure to do so
will cause you to permanently miss the entry for Dynas on your list.

After you regain control after all of the events and fights at Wind Valley, DO
NOT SLEEP until you are ready to advance the story. You do not want to miss

For the second time now you must go to Tria village and talk to Adele until
she repeats herself now that you have seen Gawain. Failure to talk to her
before you next see Gawain will cause you to miss her permanently.
You now have two new missions available from Thanos to complete. Failure to
complete either one will cause you to miss the following characters:
"Letter of Defiance" - Rocky, Thanos, Elwen, Nyx
"The Alien Monster" - Ardolph, Dimitri, Leona, Curtis, Thanos, Elwen, Nyx
I am not sure whether or not you have guaranteed Rocky yet, so after
completing the "Letter of Defiance Mission", go to the broken bridge in the
Septem region and you find him again. Beat him so he joins. I have never
experienced this personally, but have heard a rumor that he sometimes does not
appear here after a certain point.
That is all you can permanently miss here, so either keep recruiting or
advance the story whenever you are ready by sleeping

After watching the scenes you need to run to the next destination in the
castle on your own. On a side note, you would think that Jack would learn
after the first time? Once you get there watch some more scenes and you will
again have control when they are over. You now have access to the castle
again. DO NOT sleep until you are ready to do so as sleeping will advance the
story.
Patrick and Putt MUST be recruited together at the same time and on the same
day. You have about a one hour window in game time to pick both of them up.
They are both recruitable only from about 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Once you
recruit one of the two you have until 9:30 p.m. to get the other one or you
will permanently miss the other. Patrick is in the watchmen's room, and Putt
is in the first cell with the radio playing during this time period. When you
talk to them during this time period you must agree to keep their secret. Talk
to one first until they join and then immediately talk to the other. If you
fail to recruit them both before 9:30 p.m. game time you will need to re-load
a previous save and try again. You have more than enough time to easily
recruit both of them, but just be cautious not to waste time in between the
two of them.
These are the only other characters that you can permanently miss at this
time. Feel free to recruit more if you would like. When you are ready to
advance the story sleep and watch the scenes. You will need to sleep more than
once to get all of the scenes as one part is time based after the first time
you sleep. Depending on how much time you spend in between you may have to
sleep two or three times here.

Once you have completed all of the events in Fire Mountain you regain control.
DO NOT enter Jack's house between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., otherwise you will
advance the story. I believe the actual begin time is somewhere between 7:30
a.m. and 8:30 a.m. I believe the actual time end time between 8:00 p.m. and
9:00 p.m. somewhere, but I do not take chances and personally wait until after
9:00 p.m. at the end of the day so I don't find myself reloading after a full
day's work. This time frame may only begin after completing the mission below
as it is a story related mission and is likely required for you to complete.
Either way, I don't take chances and do the mission immediately when they
become available.
There is one last mission from Thanos. It is called "Secret of the Sewers." I
am not sure but you may have to complete this mission to advance the story. If
not failure to complete it would cause you to miss Genius, Curtis, Thanos,
Elwen, and Nyx if it is possible to not complete it. After completing this
mission and all previous ones however you will have completed all of the
missions available from Thanos.
Feel free to recruit or enter your house between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to
advance the story. If you want to advance the same day you do the mission and
right after the Fire Mountain event you will need to complete the mission,
sleep, and then enter during this time.

event you can watch if you choose to do so. Walk close to your mailbox after

your party the most. The next event may automatically start the next morning
or when you sleep. There is nobody else you can permanently miss here so feel
free to sleep when you area ready to advance the story.

You can now go beat the game whenever you would like by going to the blue
swirl. Adele becomes recruitable after you fight Gawain if you spoke to her
until she repeats herself as instructed twice previously. Additionally, after
beating the last boss and viewing the ending you MUST wait until the credits
end and save your game or Valkyrie will be permanently missed on this time
through the game. After saving and choosing to "Continue" on this new save
file with a star you will have a bonus dungeon available. Valkyrie can only be
recruited by doing this and getting part-way through the Bonus Dungeon. I
enjoy this dungeon a lot and would recommend completing the entire thing at
least once before doing a New Game Plus (gives you a great ability as well for
beating the last boss of the bonus dungeon). Make sure you recruit ALL HUMAN
CHARACTERS before starting a New Game Plus on the Non-Human side. There is now
no other character you can permanently miss from this faction. If this is your
first time through you can enjoy the non-human side whenever you are ready
(guide is below to guarantee you do not permanently miss anyone for the non-
human faction). If you have already completed the non-human side and this is
your second time through you should be able to complete the remainder of your
friends list by recruiting all Human characters.

Character recruitment and your ability to miss characters begins once you
receive an explanation of the friends list and setting up your party. Clive is
nice enough to recruit himself for you, and from that point forward the fun
begins. Prior to this time just go with the flow and enjoy the often comical
scenes.
Have fun recruiting people and putting a party together after Clive joins, you
can't miss any non-humans until after the Crocogator mission is complete, and
you have a full day before you automatically begin this mission. Additionally,
you can postpone the Crocogator indefinitely by not going to the Elf Region
and completing the mission, which is great for recruiting human characters
early on.
Whenever you feel ready go ahead and complete the Crocogator mission or build
up a party first. I would suggest working on recruiting non-humans after the
crocogator mission as you will have better transportation available, but it is
up to you. If you already went through the Human path you will notice there
are far less people you can permanently miss, and they are much more difficult
to permanently miss.

Complete Crocogator Mission to Advance Story &Fry1

If you took my suggestion and waited until after the Crocogator mission to
start recruiting non-humans you will notice that you now have the Journey Pigs
available for use. I will first warn you, there are NO DWARF CHARACTERS that
you can recruit until after the split, so do not bother running around Earth
Valley for a while trying to recruit them as I did. Many of the Dark Elves and
Green Goblins are available before the split however, so focus your energies
there. You cannot get access to the Dorse Region yet to recruit goblins, so
put a party together of Dark Elves for now, otherwise you can just use some
humans and advance the story quickly if you prefer.
Martinez is the only Dark Elf that can be missed and you have all the way
until the split to recruit him. The only way to miss him is by selling every
single one of the records needed to recruit him, and have also fought Pinky
already (as he drops a record you can get after the split). I never realized
at first that it was possible to miss Martinez as I was collecting all of the
records, but someone on the www.gamefaqs.com board almost missed him had it
not been for the lucky fact that he did not kick duel Pinky before the split.
Please note that when recruiting Martinez he will not give you your record
back like Ernest does, so if you are collecting all of the records he will
take any of the Theme songs from Chic Records, so buy an extra copy for him.
Otherwise if you don't care about records you could give him one of the Theme
song's you likely picked up by kicking various items throughout the game up to
this point. As long as you hang on to a Human Theme song record you can get
him at any time. Failure to recruit Martinez also causes you to miss Clarence.
There are no other non-human characters that you can permanently miss yet at
this point, so whenever you are ready to advance the story simply complete two
of the mission Thanos is offering and then enter your house between 7:00 a.m.
and 8:00 p.m.

There are no additional non-humans that you can permanently miss at this point
in the story, so when you are ready to advance wait (or sleep) at least one

advance the story.

Watch all of the scenes and participate in the events until you finish the
Link Tutorial with Gerald. Once this happens you are in control again. I know
you are dying to recruit some Green Goblins for your party so advance the
story again by going to Vancoor Square as instructed by Thanos. You can
put the story on hold indefinitely here by not going to Vancoor Square, but
feel to proceed as no other non-humans can be permanently missed here, and
advancing it one more time opens up the Dorse Region and the Green Goblins.

You now have all of the Green Goblins available for recruitment, and there are
some that can be permanently missed. Be sure to follow these instructions
before advancing the story. DO NOT GO TO JACK'S HOUSE BETWEEN 7:00 a.m. and
9:00 p.m. Doing so will advance the story and can cause you to miss out on
some characters permanently. I believe the actual end time is somewhere
between 8:00 a.m and 9:00 p.m., but I don't take chances and wait until 9:00
to enter personally. It is more defined on the clock and helps to prevent
extra restarts using 9:00 p.m. When I intentionally want to advance the story
I enter before 8:00 p.m.
The next character that you can permanently miss is Row (Light Elf later in
the game). I will provide this warning to you now so that you do not miss him.
When exploring the Dorse region you will eventually find a chest containing
the Rainbow Crystal. This sells for 10,000 Dagols, but DO NOT SELL THE RAINBOW
CRYSTAL. You need this crystal to recruit Row after the split, and if you sell
the crystal you will be unable to recruit him this game.
The only Green Goblin that can be permanently missed is Brie. To recruit
Brie, you must first recruit the farmer Bligh. You can technically do this
anytime before the split, however I recommend doing it now while you are
recruiting Green Goblins. First go to Nuevo village. Bligh is in the field or
in bed most of the day, so you need to catch him either going to the field
from his house or from his house to the field. The only times you can catch
him are between 6:30 and 6:40 a.m. or between 3:30 and 6:00 p.m. in Nuevo
village. Talk to Bligh who will tell you about his missing pipe that was taken
by a goblin. Take the Journey Pig to the Dorse Region and run through Shangri
La and out the other side. Talk to Brie (Goblin with pointy thing on his
head). Depending on the time of day he may be listening to Donkey playing
music or standing just to the left of Donkey's stage. When confronted about
the pipe he will attack you. Beat him and then run inside Shangri La and look
for the sparkling object on the ground. This is the pipe so pick it up and
return it to Bligh to recruit him. Now that you have Bligh you can recruit
Brie. To recruit Brie you must recruit two mages from the Vareth Magic
Institute and talk to Brie with them in your party. Two easy mages to recruit
for this are Aidan (simply talk to him) and Marietta (run to the room at the
bottom of the Star tower). Once you talk to Brie with the mages in your group
and after having recruited Bligh he will join you, and can no longer be
permanently missed.
Most of the missions from Thanos you can choose to do or not do as they do not
affect non-human recruitment. However, you must complete the Mission entitled
"Treasure of the Goblin Cemetery" at this point in the game. I will not spoil
the fun of how to complete it, however be sure that you complete this mission.
In the room at the end of this mission is a chest containing the Recruitment
Suit. DO NOT THROW AWAY OR SELL THE RECRUITMENT SUIT as it will cause you to
miss Giovanni, Sonny, Luka, and Gruel permanently (all Black Goblins
recruitable later).
I haven't confirmed this yet as I have always gotten this item, however I have
heard people state that you cannot recruit Shin without having the Feather
Earing. It may be possible to do without the Feather Earing, although I
haven't tried to do so personally. Either way, even if it is not needed it
will definitely make things much easier (you will see why when you get there).
To get it, head to the Sewers beneath Cell B5 of Theater Vancoor and be sure
to find this item in the sewers to insure you can recruit Shin.
You are now ready to advance the story several times. There are no other non-
human characters that can be missed until after the split now, so feel free to
advance through the story quickly when you feel you have done enough
recruiting.

After the cut scenes with the Birthday are over, wait until 3:00 p.m. and you
will get yet another cut-scene.
After this the only way to advance the story is to complete the required
"Stone of Miracles" mission from Thanos. Feel free to recruit people or pick
up this job and complete it whenever you are ready to advance the story. If
you followed all the instructions up to this point you can't miss any more
non-humans until after the split.

Again, you cannot miss anyone else until the split so feel free to do whatever
you feel like or advance the story when ready by sleeping. You may need to

based.
After the first set of scenes it is again time based and will advance whether
you want it to or not. Nothing else can be missed so continue sleeping and
watching the scenes until you find yourself at the Heliford Gate and unable to
enter Radiata again (temporarily).

You now have to run to Earth Valley on foot to watch some more scenes. You
still cannot miss any non-humans permanently so go ahead and do this. After

some non-humans you haven't yet gotten that are obtainable before the split.
Eventually you will have no choice but to enter your house if you want to save
and this will advance the story again. You may have to sleep for one day
before entering your house if it doesn't work.

Since this portion of the guide is aimed at the human side of the story you
need to choose to FOLLOW RIDLEY. DO NOT CHOOSE TO GO TO THE CASTLE OR YOU WILL
FIND YOURSELF ON THE HUMAN PATH.
You cannot miss any additional characters yet, so just go with the flow until
you find yourself in your room in Fort Helencia.
Once you are in Fort Helencia you have MANY more non-human characters
available for recruitment. No additional ones can be permanently missed at
this time, but I would recommend recruiting as many as possible and putting
together a good party before heading to the Sediche Region as instructed and
advancing the story. Many of them require several little mini-events to
acquire, but all of the ones recruitable are easy to get.
When you feel you have recruited enough characters, head to the Sediche Region
(swirling area on your map) and go to Goblin Haven to advance the story.

You can recruit some Black Goblins while you are here. Other than that there
is nobody else you can permanently miss here. After fighting a certain

before heading back to Fort Helencia and advancing the story.

DO NOT SLEEP AT THIS POINT, DOING SO WILL ADVANCE THE STORY.
You have three new optional missions at this point. You cannot accept more
than one at a time, so once you agree to one you must complete it before
starting another. One is given by Dyvad in Fort Helencia, one is given by
Mikey who is temporarily at the entrance to Fort Helencia, and one is given by
Marco (the Black Goblin who sells books outside the highest entrance to Goblin
Haven).
If you fail to complete the missions with Marco and Dyvad I believe you can
still recruit them, but I personally would not recommend taking any chances
and I have always completed these missions. Marco's mission sends you back to
the Goblin Cemetary so you will have another chance to get a recruitment suit
if you didn't follow these instructions from the beginning (but you still lose
if you sold it).
You will not be able to recruit Mikey if you do not complete his mission to go
Algandar's castle. After that you can no longer permanently miss Mikey or
Clarence.
Whenever you have completed these three missions there are no other characters
you can permanently miss so continue recruiting or sleep to advance the story.

There are no additional characters that can be permanently missed at this
time, so feel free to go to Fire Mountain as instructed. Watch all of the
scenes and participate in all of the fights. Right after this you should
promptly progress the story one more time by speaking to Gawain back in Fort
Helencia. Once you have had the scene with Gawain you are ready to go from
here.

the Elf Region as instructed. It DOES NOT MATTER how you answer JJ's question,
as it will lead to the same next event. Complete JJ's task in the Borgandazio
and make sure you talk to JJ again. Once JJ joins you can no longer
permanently miss out on any additional non-human characters, so feel free to
do as you please or advance the story as you please from this point forward.
Advancing the story for the next time is done by sleeping.

Most of this guide was created based upon my notes from going through the game
very slowly and being overly cautious not to advance the story. I originally
played through without using a guide (except I caved and looked up Gerald
right after joining Theator Vancoor and seeing the cut-scenes with him). Had
it not been for the work of those that have gone before me I would have had
many additional inaccuracies in this guide that I was able to correct through
research. They are listed below:
First, I need to credit Darkstar Ripclaw. I used the "Character Database"
portion of his FAQ/Walkthrough very extensively in updating specifically when
some of these character first became recruitable. I took notes as I recruited
them going through, but there were a few I did not realize could be missed and
a few more that I didn't figure out how to get them until after I could have
originally picked them up. Using this database as a source I was able to
correct countless mistakes that would have gone out in the original posting of
this guide.
The only character I looked up going through the game my first time was Gerald
because I knew I wanted to recruit him when I first saw him in Theater
Vancoor. Little did I know that he would be one of the most commonly missed
characters (although I think I still would have gotten him without looking as
a result of re-loading countless times when I advanced the story without
extensively trying to recruit people). I used wrp103's Recruiting Guide to
find this piece of information, and then again later as a cross-reference to
what I was reading in Darkstar Ripclaw's database.
Third, I need to credit Takir. After seeing his name/guide mentioned countless
times on the www.gamefaqs.com boards for this Step-By-Step Walkthrough I had
