This guide is for the PS2 game テニスの王子様 最強チームを結成せよ! released
on 16 Sep 2004. I started writing the guide a while after I got the game, but
never really got around to finishing it till the start of 2005 (plus now
another year later I am adding more!). This guide was originally created for
my personal use only, and was never intended to be released out to the net, so
there may be parts of this guide that only I can understand (and there may be
parts that I wont understand). It basically is just a translation of alot of
the stuff you can find ingame. Not really sure why I decided now to put it on
GameFAQs, when no one is probably playing the game anymore... I rarely play
the game anymore, only sometimes with friends.

= 3.1 Footwork Training (フットワーク練習) =

This is footwork training.
What you have to do here is choose the direction, opposite to the one the
opponent moves. There will be a display on the screen saying:
"相手が(左/右)に動いた!"
"The opponent moved (left/right)!"
左 = left
右 = right
Then you have a selection to make, you have to choose the OPPOSITE direction:
IF it said: "相手が左に動いた!"
YOU CHOOSE: 右
IF it said: "相手が右に動いた!"
YOU CHOOSE: 左
NOTE: sometimes mixed in with 左 and 右, there will be another option "石"
this character looks alot like right (右), and is there just to mix you up.
If you don't answer within an amount of time, or you choose the wrong option,
you fail.
PASS: Footwork and friendship go up.
Abilities (Chance): Net Dash (ネットダッシュ) and Diving (ダイビング)
FAIL: You don't perform as well in next week's training.
Ability (Chance): Easy to Injure Yourself (けがしやすい)

= 3.2 Shot Target (ショットターゲット) =

This is technique training.
What you have to do is choose the direction the same as what is displayed. On
the screen it will say:
"(左/右/真ん中)だ!"
" It's (left/right/centre)!"
Then you have to choose the SAME direction as what was said before:
IF it said: "左だ!"
YOU CHOOSE: 左
IF it said: "右だ!"
YOU CHOOSE: 右
IF it said: "真ん中だ!"

This is power training.
Okay, this may be hard to understand, but I'll try my best :)
The process starts off like this. It'll say:
"1打目、相手のショット!(フラット/ロブ/トップスピン/スライス)!"
"1st hit, opponent's shot! Its a (flat/lob/top spin/slice)!"
Next:
"1打目、相手のショットは?"
"1st hit, the opponent's shot was...?"
and you choose was what said above.
"2打目、こちらのショット!(フラット/ロブ/トップスピン/スライス)!"
"2nd hit, our shot! Its a (flat/lob/top spin/slice)!"
and choose a shot different to the 1st (opponent's) hit
Next:
"1打目、相手のショットは?"
"1st hit, the opponent's shot was...?"
and you choose what the 1st shot was.
"2打目、こちらのショットは?"
"2nd hit, our shot was...?"
and you choose what the 2nd shot was.

Get the picture? and the last line will be

and you choose what the 1st shot was.

"10打目、こちらのショット!(フラット/ロブ/トップスピン/スライス)!"
"10th hit, our shot! Its a (flat/lob/top spin/slice)!"
and choose a shot different to the 9th (opponent's) hit
FINISH
So what you have to do is read what the opponent did you the first hit, and
then you'll reply for what that first shot was. Then you'll choose a shot to
do (must be different to what the 1st shot was). Then you say what the 1st
shot was, and what the 2nd shot was, then the opponent does another shot
(3rd shot) and you must remember what was hit for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd shot.
Then you eventually have to remember all 10 shots in order to pass. If you
dont reply within an amount of time, or you answer wrong, you fail.
PASS: Power and friendship go up.
Abilities (Chance): Power Stroker (パワーストローカー) and
Grip (グリップ)
Technique (Chance): Hadoukyuu (波動球)

This is mental training.
Easy. Just a one game match against the player.
PASS: Mental and friendship go up.
Abilities (Chance): Gekokujou (下克上), Reserve Strength (底力),
Seriousness (本気), Sense of Superiority (優越感)
FAIL: You don't perform as well in next week's training.
Ability (Chance): Fear of Winning (勝ちびびり)

This is stamina training.
You have to press a button as quick as possible when "打つ!" pops up on the
screen. If you press it within 0.05 seconds, you pass.
PASS: Stamina and friendship go up.
Abilities (Chance): Jumping Shot (ジャンピングショット), Recover (回復)
Technique (Chance): Shuunen - Tenscity (執念)
FAIL: You don't perform as well in next week's training.

超ライジング (Chou Rising - Super Rising)

Description:
A hard to do rising, but it is a returns to the opponent's court with an
intense spin.
ドライブA (Drive A)
Position: Backcourt
Ball: Any ball landing in front of the service line except for smashes

(can't be used against other techniques)
Boost: 1.5 times stronger
Max Boost: 3 times stronger, plus if you hit your opponent, you give 1 shock

Description:
You hit it at the opponent and it hits their racquet, and they hit it out.
ドライブB (Drive B)
Position: Backcourt
Ball: Any ball landing in front of the service line except for smashes
Button R1 + O
Boost: 1.2 times stronger
Max Boost: 1.2 times stronger, plus the willpower used to execute the
technique is recovered
Description:
A sliding jump volley. When the ball falls infront, you return a strong volley.
ツイストスマッシュ (Twist Smash)

Timing: When Hitting a Smash

(can't be used against other techniques)
Boost: 1.5 times stronger
Max Boost: 1.5 times stronger, plus the players in the vicinity of the bounce
are blown back
Description:
Jump to catch up with the ball, and do a smash. The bounce is high due to the
twist.
二刀流 (Nitouryuu - basically means using both hands to play tennis)
Tension Level: 2+
Position: Forecourt
Ball: Topspin, slice
Button R1 + O
Boost: 1.5 times faster
Max Boost: If it wins the point, gives opponent a shock star
Description:
Change the hand you use to hit the ball in the case of a backhand.

Description:
Volley that quickly hits the edge of the net. Tension increases by 1 if it

片足スプリットステップ (Kata-ashi split step - One-legged Split Step)
Timing: After own shot, before opponent's shot

Description:
Till the point is decided, you move faster.
パワーアンクル外し (Power Ankle hazushi - Power Ankles Removal)
Timing: After a game
Button: R1 + X
Description:
Footwork increases by 1 for the next three games. Can only be used once in a
match. If you have this technique, till the tournament, your footwork may
decrease by one, but you gain some bonus footwork in training.

Description:
A high speed shot that is accurately aimed at a baseline corner.

Description:
Until the point is decided, all the opponent's shots (except techniques,
smashes and drops) are drawn in. During activation, you don't gain any tension.

Description:
A shot with an intense slice, after the bounce, the ball is really low making
a countershot impossible. With a high tension level, you can also do this

Description:
When the opponent does a smash, you direct the ball back to the opponent's

Description:
The ball suddenly climbs up from the net, and bounces vertically on the
baseline. After the bounce, the ball turns back towards the user.

With a sudden drop, a spin volley that goes twice as fast and lands on the
baseline.
ドロップボレー (Drop Volley)

Description:
A homing technique that drops the ball near the net.
ショートクロス (Short Cross)

Description:
A high dive to hit the ball, the area that you can hit it to is big. Must have
the ability "Acrobatics" first before you can learn this technique.

(Ooishi Jikiden Moon Volley - Oosihi Transmitted Moon Volley)

Ball: Any ball except a drop, lob or smash

Description:
A spin volley that goes 1.5 times as fast and lands on the baseline. Must have
Ooishi on your team to get this technique.

On you opponent's ball, you do a jumping, backhand smash.

Description:
From a low ball, you release a strong flat shot. If you try to return it while
it is going up, you'll snap your racquet.
* 菊丸ステップ (Kikumaru Step)
Tension Level: 3+
Position: Forecourt
Timing: After own shot, before opponent's shot
Button: R1 + X
Description:
You have a large cover over the opponent's next ball. A ball in the cover will
be returned acrobatically.
菊丸リバース (Kikumaru Reverse)
Timing: When you are KOed
Button: R1 + O
Description:
When you have no more stamina and you take a body shot and are KOed, your
stamina gauge is refilled and your tension level rises to max. Only used in
doubles. Can only be used once per match.
充電 (Juuden - Charging)
Timing: When opponent is on 0 points, after opponent's recieve round, before
opponent hits the ball.
Button: R1 + O
Description:
It activates till your opponents reach 40 points. After that yo gain a full
recovery of stamina.

Max Boost: 1.2 times stronger, plus if it is returned it will definitely be a
lob
Description:
A shot 3 times stronger than normal. If it is returned, depending on where you
are, if infront of the service line, then it will be a lob, if behind the
service line, it will be a drop.
グレート波動球 (Great Hadoukyuu)
Ball: Any ball except a smash
Button: R1 + X
Boost 1.2 times stronger, hard for it to go out
Description:
Strong shot aimed at the opponent. If they try to return it, the racquet will
be blown away, but if they leave it, it has a high chance of going out.
* ダッシュ波動球 (Dash Hadoukyuu)
Tension Level: 3+
Timing: In a match with 3 or more games, and during opponent's match game.
Button: R1 + X
Description:
During the opponent's match game, it replaces the "Great Hadoukyuu". Can blow
away opponent's racquets. Restricted to doubles only, only used once per match.
オラオラカモーン (Ora Ora Com'on - Hey Hey Com'on)
Timing: After own shot, before opponent's shot
Button: R1 + O
Description:
May cause the opponent to do a miss shot, making them hit it directly to you.

You run quicker when you run left and right.

When you play doubles with player weaker than yours (calculate by adding the
abilities), your abilities will go down pby one, while your partner's will go

When your power is higher than your opponent and they do a power shot, or when
your technique is higher than your opponents and they do a technical shot, the
power of the shot is reduced.
Jiai - Affection - (慈愛)
In doubles, when your partner takes a body shot, their tension level goes up
by one.
Shiya - Field of Vision (視野)
You can see the langing point of your opponent's smashes.
Jumping Shot (ジャンピングショット)
Used when you do a jumping shot. The shot's range is widened.
Shuuchuu Chikara - Concentration Power (集中力)
In the middle of the match, only when you aren't doing anything, you gain an
energy bonus.

When your partner scores a point, your energy goes up.

The speed of your serves goes up by one.

When player has same technique, you hit a level 1 slice.

If you lose, your friendship goes up, but you get "Old Scar (古傷)".

Details: You loiter around the streets, friendship levels go up.

Details: You meet Inui at the park, and he recommends you a special drink. You
have the option to drink it or not to drink it (飲む/飲まない). The person
that drinks loses one power, and gets "Easy to Injure Yourself (けがしやすい)".
When the effect kicks in, your power will go up by one, and you get "Iron Wall
(鉄壁)" and recover from "Weak Against Recieving Blows (うたれよわい)"

Requirements: Random, atleast 2 people in your team
Details: At a fast food shop, your training partners say they are bored, and
they suggest they want to have practice matches. If you say yes
(練習試合をする), next week you will have practice matches. If you say no
(しない), the whole teams friendship towards your leader will fall a little.

Requirements: Random, atleast 2 people in your team
Details: When you went out to play, and on your way back, you see your rival
team training by the river. You recover from "Slow Starter (スロースターター)",
"Loose (ルーズ)", "Negligence (油断)". You train harder next week, and your
friendship levels go up a little.

Retreating Player (Secret Player: Fukushi Michiru)
Requirements: Random, atleast 2 people in your team
Details: In town, you see Fukushi/Atode/Mukahi/Marui you can choose whether to
chase him (追跡する), select a team member to chase (チーム員に追わせる), or
not chase at all (追わない). If you chose to chase after:
Fukushi - you can invite Fukushi, and get "Withering (萎縮)"
Atobe - you get "Insight (インサイト)"
Mukahi - you get "Acrobatics (アクロバティック)"
Marui - you get "Recover (回復)"
but if you chased, but didn't catch up, that player will perform badly in next
week's training.

Details: You start from the last frame, adn there are a few pins remaining
(random number). To win you must do a spare, otherwise you lose. If you win,
the leader gets "Pinch (ピンチ)". Even you you don't you may still get it.
The team's friendship also goes up.

Bowling Match! (Hidden Option: Bowling)
Requirements: Random, atleast 2 people in your team and you must have a rival
team.
Details: Have a bowling match with your rival team. If you win, your leader
gets "Hate Losing (負けず嫌い)", "Calmness (冷静)", and "Partnership (友情)".
When you get this event you unlock Bowling in Bonus (even if you quit halfway).

Details: A team member will be invited to the gym, you have to decide whether

will have hios power stat increase by 1, and also recover from "Underestimate
(てかげん)". The friendship with the person who went will go up,

Details: When returning home from going out, a team member will ask the leader
to play doubles with him. You choose yes (組む) or no (組まない). If you chose

Requirements: Random, and your team power must be 75+%
Details: The leader is waiting stupidly at the bus stop, but when you talk to
the leader, he will realise the time, and get "Negligence (油断)".

Sorry I'm Late 2 (Team Member's Late)
Requirements: Random, and your team power must be 75+%, a team member must
have "Negligence (油断)" or "Loose (ルーズ)".
Details: One of your team members are late, and the leader will have to choose
to wait (待つ) or not (待たない). If you choose not to wait, the late member's
friendship towards you will fall greatly. If you wait, you choose whether to
warn him (いさめる) or say nothing (何も言わない) to him. If you warn the
member, the team member recover from "Negligence (油断)" and "Loose (ルーズ)".
If you don't say say anthing, the tam friendship wil fall, and the late team
member's friendship towards your leader will rise, and get "Support
(サポート)".

Details: A player without the ability "Verses Left (対左)", will ask to play
against a left handed player. Then you decide to let him do it (許可する) or
not (しない). If you let him play, the the player will get "Verses Left
(対左)" or "Easy to Injure Yourself (けがしやすい)". If you don't let him
play, the team's friendship will go up a little, but the friendship towards
your ;eader will drop.
NOTE: Left handed players are Ryoma, Tezuka, Yuuta, Dan, Mukahi, Saeki, and
Nioh

Rising Training
Requirements: Random, when there is a team member with the techniques "Rising
(ライジング)" or "Super Rising (超ライジング)", and another with
none.
Details: The team member without rising, wants to rising training. Then you
choose to let him (許可する) or not (しない). If yuou let him, the person that
did the training, they'll get "Rising (ライジング)" or "Easy to Injure
Yourself (けがしやすい)". If you refuse, the teams friendship will go up a
little, and the person who wanted to do the training will lose friendship
points towards the leader.
南次郎登場1 <隠しキャラ:南次郎>
Echizen Nanjirou Appears 1 (Secret Character: Echizen Nanjirou)
Requirements: When there is a team member who recovered form "Limit (限界)".
Details: Meet Nanjirou at the park, and the teammate that recovered form
"Limit (限界)" wants to play a match with him. If you win, you unlock
Nanjirou, and you can use him as a leader and in exhibition. Anf your teams
friendship goes up. If you lose, you get "Vigor (気迫)".
NOTE: to unlock the next event "Echizen Nanjirou Appears 2" you must lose this
match.
南次郎登場2 <「覚醒」取得イベント>
Echizen Nanjirou Appears 2 (Event to get "Awakening (覚醒)")
Requirements: Random, and there is a team member that lost to Nanjirou in
"Echizen Nanjirou Appears 1".
Details: You play another match with Nanjirou. If you win against Nanjioru
with a tension level of 5, that team member gets "Awakening (覚醒)". Yout team
friendship goes up.
NOTE: To reach tension level 5, you must have a mental of SS.
ストリートの悪魔 <<隠しキャラ:橘杏>>
Street Devil (Secret Character: Tachibana Ann)
Requirements: Random, your leader isn't Yukimura, atleast 2 members in your
team
Details: After you come back from going out, you decide whether to play (する)
or not (しない). If you play and win, you unlock Ann, and you can use him as a
leader and in exhibition. The leader and the player you played with get
"Doubles (ダブルス)". If you lose the game, next week they don't perform bad
at training the next week and get "Underestimate (てかげん)".

Mood Maker
Requirements: Random, and your team power must be 75+%, and after going out
atleast 8 times.
Details: At the fast food store, your team members talk good about your
leader, and your team member gets "Mood Maker (ムードメイカー)".

Details: In town you meet with Kirihara and Jackal talking about Tezuka. Then
your leader will ask them whether they are interested in real tennis or not.
Yes (ある) or no (ない). If you said yes, your leaser will have a match with
Kirihara. If you win against the normal Kirihara, you get "Exaltation Feeling
(高揚感)". If you win against a red eyed Kirihara you get "Awakening (覚醒)".
If you lose or said no, you get "Weak Against Recieving Blows (うたれよわい)".
NOTE: This is a random event that happens after Tezuka has gone to Kyuushu. If
your leader is Yukimura or Kirihara, then this event is kinda hard to exist...
and same if Kirihara is a member...

and get "Partnership (友情)", as well as recover from "Distraction (逆上)".

more. After the practice, you might unlock Taki.

friendship levels rise. If Akutagawa's friendship towards the leader is high,
and you wake him up, friendship levels rise. If you let him be, the results of

give it to him (あげる) or not (あげない). If you give it to him, the
friendship with Marui goes up alot. If you don't, the friendship with Marui
goes down alot.

Tactics
Requirements: Random, Niou is in your team
Details: Niou talks about tactics to the team members. You decide whether to
listem to hin (聞く) or not (聞かない). If you listen to him, you get "威光",
"Preliminary Arrangements (下準備)", "Strategy (謀略)", and recovers from
"Disturbance (動揺)". If you don't listen, Niou's friendship towards the
leader falls greatly, but team members perform better in training.

NOTES:
1. A "Technique Return" is when your technique is returned and the opponent
score the point. A black and white shocked face is shown when this happens.
2. The gallery items the computer players make are also stored in the gallery.
3. "Ryoma with eyepatch" is gotten by pressing and holding L2 when selecting
Ryoma.
4. "Gold hair Tachibana" is gotten by having Tachibana in your team and he
gets the "old scar" and has to goto Kyuushuu. It doesn't matter whether or
not he comes back in time for the tournament.
5. "Long hair Shishido" is gotten when you finish the game with Taki as the
team leader and Shishido as one of the team members.

Secret Characters:
Ryuuzaki Sakuno
Make a team with Sengoku Kiyosumi and/or Aoi Kentarou, and then select the "Go
play" menu option, and if you see her, then you will unlock her.
Echizen Nanjirou
When you get a team member who gets the ability "限界 (Genkai - Limits)", go
to special training and play a singles and play a match with him. Beat him in
the match, and he will then lose the ability 限界. The next week, go out and
play, and you will see Nanjirou. You will play a match against him with the
player who had the 限界 before. Beat Nanjirou to unlock him.
Tachibana Ann
Form a team with anybody except Yukimura as the leader, and recruit another
member. Then go out and play and if you are lucky, you will go to street
tennis where you get have to verse Tachibana Ann and Momoshiro. Win against
them to unlock her.
Taki Haginosuke
Form a team with Ootori Choutarou as the leader, and recruit Shishido Ryou as
a member. then goto "Special Training" and play a singles match with Shishido.
Win against him, and then he will want a rematch. Beat him again to unlock
Taki Haginosuke.
Sasaki Tarou
Form a team with at least one Hyoutei person in it. Then go out and play for 8
weeks consecutively. On the eight week, you will see Sasaki Tarou, and you
will automatically unlock him.
Kisarazu Ryou
When you go and get players to join your team, choose 木更津淳 (Kisarazu
Atsushi), and then you will unlock him.
Fukushi Michiru
When you have atleast two members in your team, go out and play, if you see
Fukushi, chase after him to unlock him.
Yukimura Seiichi
When your leader is someone other than a Rikkai member or Echizen Nanjirou or
Sasaki Tarou, and there is a Rikkai student in your team, and when your team
power of over 70%, go and play a practice match. After you win, go and play,
and if you end up in a fast food restaurant, you will unlock him. Its better
if you have 5 members in your team.
