Portal runner is a fun platformer with lots of things to do and to
discover, but for some reason it didn't get the attention it
deserved. Yet I had much fun playing it and I hope this FAQ will
contribute to its future popularity.
Portal runner isn't a very difficult platformer in the sense that
you don't have to perform 'impossible' jumps or likewise. It
contains, however, a serious challenge in the form of what could be
called the 'secret jewels'. Jewels (or gems, or whatever) are items
which can be found throughout the game, but some of them are very
well hidden or just hard to get. While visiting the GameFAQs boards
I have encountered some instances of people who had trouble finding
all of them. It's these secret jewels what the present FAQ is about.
If you want to contact me about this FAQ, please do so on the
Portal Runner GameFAQs message board. I'll be checking the board
from time to time.
One more point: English is not my native language, so I apologize
beforehand for any grammar or spelling mistakes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT IS THIS FAQ ABOUT?
This FAQ is primarily about finding the 'secret jewels' of the game.
This is a term I will coin for indicating the jewels that are hard
to find or not directly visible. In general, the following
distinction can be made:
Secret jewels: the jewels that can only be found when specific
actions are performed which are not part of the direct game flow.
These jewels are generally the hardest to find, and this FAQ does
pretend completeness for these types of jewels. Secret jewels can,
for instance, be found by disclosing secret areas or by activating
secret platforms (the Lion platforms) taking you to previously
inaccessible locations. In this FAQ, secret jewel events are
indicated by a separate subject header, e.g. 'The gumball machine'.
Secret Lion platforms are indicated by just 'Lion platform'.
Hard-to-find jewels: these are the jewels that can in principle be
found by just exploring the regular game area, but are not in
immediate sight. I will only mention part of them, for the simple
reason that the 'hardness' of finding jewels is highly a matter of
taste. Is a jewel hidden behind a tree 'hard to find'? Yet, I will
try to be as helpful as possible and indicate many locations of
hard-to-find jewels along the way. This FAQ, however, does not
pretend completeness for this type of jewels.
The abovementioned distinction may be a bit arbitrary, but I hope it
will serve to lend a bit of a structure to this FAQ.
This FAQ does NOT include:
(1) A regular walkthrough. For a general desription of events and
encountered enemies, please refer to the clear and helpful FAQ by
Wolf Feather on GameFAQs.
(2) Regular jewels. These are the jewels which are just found along
the way, indicating the paths, etc. This FAQ does not mention
these jewels in any way. The reason for this is that the task to
describe them all would be considerably more time-consuming, and it
would also be rather unnecessary, since the regular jewels are all
in plain sight. So you'll have to find them for yourself. In this
sense, this FAQ is not about 'getting 100%'. It does, however,
provide some crucial information which will greatly increase the
chance that you will get 100%. Maybe I'll add a complete overview
of all jewels some time in the future, if the need exists.
(3) A complete list of the numbers of jewels involved in all the
'secret events'. Originally I wanted to include this, but the point
is that I wasn't always sure how many jewels you get by certain
events. To avoid misunderstanding, I do not give exact numbers
unless I'm absolutely sure of them. Then again, this FAQ is meant
primarily to describe the events that will disclose secret jewels,
and not to mention their exact numbers.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SECRET JEWELS PER SECTION
For easy reference, I will include the titles of the missions you
get in the game when starting a new level.
One word about the 'lion platforms', which will be triggered
regularly throughout the whole game. They are a major source of
secret jewels and generally will take you to other locations, while
sometimes you won't be able to move. Therefore, ALWAYS take care
that you jump or step in the middle of the platform. It's very
annoying when you miss some of the jewels it takes you to, because
that means you'll have to do the level (or the section since the
last checkpoint) over again. This actually happened to me a few
times. Lion platforms, in general, cannot be activated a second
time (that is, in the same run).
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 1
Mission: Follow Sarge through the portals
There's not many secrets here.
In the lake area, where you start, there is a secret area behind
the waterfall, where a number of yellow jewels can be found.
Shooting the crystall ball at the ceiling of the cave will result
in an additional red jewel.
In the chessboard section, activate the four red points on the
floating platforms (they will turn green). A walkway will be
created, giving access to a number of green, blue and yellow
jewels. Completing the walkway also will produce a lion platform
taking you to a white crystal (it is also a vista point, by the
way).
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 2
Mission: Find and rescue Sarge
From the point where you start, located behind your back is a
chocolate box. Behind this box is a red jewel. There's also a lion
platform here, taking you to a vista point.
When you have started on your way, a stop sign can be seen. Shoot
it and it will produce a red jewel. A little further on is a second
stop sign (somewhere where the snowman was standing) which will
give another red jewel following the same procedure.
Shooting the clown's nose (actually you have to do this in order to
create the bridge) will result in 2 yellow and 1 green jewels.
- The gumball machine -
-----------------------
When you have crossed the bridge and arrived at the gumball
machine, shoot the red knob on the machine with an arrow. A lion
platform will appear, taking you a rather long way through the air,
taking a large number of jewels along the way.
When passing along the corridor where all the gumballs are rolling,
run on to the very end (where the gumballs are generated). Around
the corner, one white crystal can be found. There are also jewels
behind and on top of the toy boxes.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
When you arrive at the end of the regular course, just before it
opens into a rather open area, look to your right and upwards and
you will see two magicians and a green animal (what the heck is it?
A triceratops?) floating in the air, suspended from the ceiling.
Shoot an arrow at all three of them. You'll hear a ringing sound
if you have hit them correctly. A lion platform will then appear,
taking you to a number of blue jewels.
NOTE: shooting the stop signs here will give you no jewels, only
green hearts.
Next, advance to the lion platform a little further on (this is
when the event of 'rescueing Sarge' has been triggered). Ride the
platform while shooting ALL the cookie men in first person mode.
Once you keep killing them, the platform will continue to rise up
and you'll take up a number of jewels while riding upwards. After
you have got them all and reached the top, don't forget to take the
yellow jewels alongside the box structure. You'll have to go down
again, climb up and take the jewels, and do it fast!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 3
Mission: Find Rage inside the cave
Behind the trees in the forest clearing are four blue jewels to be
found.
Behind the waterfall inside the cave are 2 blue and 1 yellow jewels.
Destroying the rockmen spawner with explosive arrows will give you
two yellow jewels. This feature (destroying spawners will produce
jewels) will be a regular point of attention throughout the game,
so keep an eye on it.
Climbing the rock platforms (where the first spawner was) gets you
one yellow jewel and a vista point.
Past the large cave with the moving platforms and the subsequent
cave with the falling stalactites is a narrow passage with a red
jewel in a chasm which is rather hard to get. My suggestion is to
drop Vikki to the platform just off the ledge, do a long jump in
direction of the red jewel (there is a platform there) and, via the
other platforms, make your way back to the platform you originally
dropped onto. Opposite this platform, on the other side of the
chasm, is yet another platform from which you barely make it back
to the ledge. Stand to the right of this last platform, with your
back to the wall, jump to the other side, and Vikki will just get
hold of the ledge.
In the 'fire cave', destroying the two rockmen spawners will again
give you two yellow jewels each.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
After the pillar room (the one where you have to shoot the flying
crystals) go downwards and into a new cave (with the laser gun, see
below). Just to your right, around the corner, is a ledge with some
yellow hearts on it. In the ceiling of this little cave a blueish
magic crystal can be seen. Shoot it with an arrow and a lion
platform will appear which takes you all the way back into the fire
cave and up to four secret jewels. The lion platform will then take
you back to the ledge you departed from.
- The laser gun -
-----------------
In the same cave as where this ledge is in, a rotating laser gun
can be seen, surrounded by ice blocks with jewels in it. Shoot the
crystal that floats above the gun when the gun is pointing at the
ice blocks. The blocks will be blown away and you can easily take
the jewels.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 4
Mission: Befriend the lion and set up camp
From the starting point, standing with your back to the lake, to
the right is a rock wall that can be blown up with explosive
arrows. Inside is a raptor spawner. Destroy it and you will get two
green jewels. Remember to look for similar breakable walls
throughout this level.
After you befriended Leo and have gone to the waterfall area, there
are two yellow jewels to be found behind the waterfall (never
would have expected that... ).
- The secret cave -
-------------------
Standing on the shore of the lake, facing the waterfall, slightly
to your right is a rock wall that can be destroyed with an
explosive arrow. Enter the cave and shoot all the stalactites with
explosive arrows. They will shut off the geysers and you can easily
collect 4 blue and 2 red jewels.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
When you gathered the first wooden stick for the campfire (to be
found on the side of the lava river), to get the second stick you
must blow up a rock to the left of you and enter a side cave with a
river to be crossed by means of (slowly descending) platforms. When
you have got the second stick, go back along the platforms, and
about halfway, in the river, a rock will be visible just sticking
out from the lava. Shoot it with an explosive arrow and a lion
platform will appear, taking you to a number of jewels.
On the way to the pterosaur's nest, there is another rock wall that
can be blown up with explosive arrows, with some jewels in it.
A little further on is a spawner. Blow it up and two green jewels
will appear.
In the little cave where you find the third stick, there are some
skulls and a bone to be found. Shoot them with explosive arrows and
three green jewels will appear.
If you can't find these locations immediately, just keep running
around and you'll eventually find them. The area is rather
complicated so the exact locations of the caves and spawners is
hard to describe.
CAUTION: Do NOT start the campfire before you have collected all
jewels, because starting the campfire will end the level.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 5
Mission: Find a way out of the canyon
This is a very straightforward level, with many regular jewels
along the way. In the first part, look for jewels hidden in the
grass and among the plants. Also, take care that you collect all
jewels from the long jumps with Leo (in some cases using the T-bone
steaks). In the water area, ride the leaves and jump down to
collect the jewels floating in the air. At the first checkpoint,
you should have 85 jewels.
In the second part, the timed level, quickly collect all yellow
jewels on the ground and then go upwards across the ledges, jumping
to collect yet more jewels (and the magic stones, of course).
- Lion platform -
-----------------
Up the highest ledge, near the end of the open area, you will see a
circle flashing between two ledges (it is possible that you will
see this circle only after you collect the magic stone which is
also there; it went so fast that I can't remember precisely). Jump
through the flashing circle and on the next ramp, a lion platform
will appear. Ride the platform to get some white crystals (called
diamonds, by the way) and a vista point. At the end of the track you
should have 140 jewels.
Then proceed further and collect everything along the way. Take care
that you get all jewels when you jump off the last, high ledge.
It's very annoying if you miss one, because you'll have to go back
and try again. It is possible that you can still get the jewels
after you triggered the magic portal event, but I never tried this,
I always got them in the first run.
When you have activated the magic stone portal, you should have
collected all 153 jewels.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 6
Mission: Solve the secret of the pyramid and find a way out of the
jungle
After you solved the first puzzle (with Leo and the rising pillar)
and got the magic stone, have Leo sit on the lion square besides
the pillar on the ground. The arrow-firing dragon heads will
explode, giving a blue jewel each.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
Next, shoot all the magical crystall bals (a regular arrow will do)
which also appear in place of the disappeared dragon heads. A lion
platform will appear, taking you to a few green jewels (and a vista
point).
Once you solved the puzzle with Leo and the pyramid, the three
raptor spawners behind the pyramid will each give a red jewel after
destruction.
Maybe you should best destroy ALL raptor spawners you encounter, to
make sure you do not miss any jewels generated by their
destruction.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 7
Mission: Cross the lava lake
There's quite a few things to do here.
There's a red jewel on top of the three platform stairs directly
behind you where you start.
- The lion's mouth -
--------------------
When you have stopped the lava flow, cross to the other side of the
lava lake (using the moving platform) and pick up the fire arrows
to the far left. Then, shoot the scrubs on the other end of the
ledge using fire arrows, kill the rock monster and 2 blue jewels
can be picked up behind it. Now notice there is a red jewel in the
mouth of the lion on the other side of the lava lake. Stand on the
square grey platform near the point where you killed the rock
monster. A moving crystal will appear. Hit it with a regular arrow
and a platform with blue jewels will appear. Jump to the first
platform and the next one will appear. Jump all of them, taking the
blue jewels with you, and on the last platform, you will finally be
able to grab the red jewel in the lion's mouth.
- The secret cave -
-------------------
Return to the ledge you came from, where there is a purple heart.
Now face the other end of the ledge again (where you killed the
rock monster) turn slightly to your right and look up. You'll see a
dead tree on top of a high rock. Shoot the tree a few times with
fire arrows and some large platforms will rise up from the lava.
Use them to cross to the other side of the lake again, but this
time go down to the platforms on the lava lake. When you face the
high rock again (the one where the dead tree was on) you'll see the
entrance of a cave. Enter it and jump to the various platforms to
collect 5 jewels (if I have counted them correctly).
In the next section of the level (after you have burned the dead
trees on the far side of the lava lake and crossed the checkpoint)
remember to:
- Shoot all dead trees and scrubs with fire arrows. Some have
jewels 'inside' them;
- There are some jewels hidden in the lava pits you have to cross.
Look down carefully and collect them by using the platforms on the
sides of the pits.
When you have shot the water elemental crsytal, there's a few
jewels to be found in the water just before it.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
On the other side, where the water elemental crystal was/is,
there's also an annoying flying monster shooting fireballs at you.
Kill it and a lion platform will appear, taking you to the other
side. There's a white crystal and a red jewel to be found here
(along with some lightning arrows). Down a narrow shaft, another
red jewel can be found.
When you have arrived at the site of the lightning elemental
crystal, on the other side of the large clearing there are a lot of
scrubs. Set them all on fire and behind them you will find a blue
jewel and, down a shaft, a red one.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 8
Mission: Escape before the volcano erupts
This is another very straightforward level. No real secrets here.
You'll just have to run through and collect every jewel to be seen
(easy, isn't it?). Search carefully for every jewel in the caves
and caverns. A few points of notice:
A little way into the level, you'll encounter an array of pillars
you can jump onto. Near that is a ledge leading to a set of jewels
and one white crystal.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
There is a detour from the main track somewhere halfway the level.
You'll see a line of yellow jewels leading down. Do the jump and
run over the tilting ramps to the other side of the lava river.
Wait till the last ramp tilts up and jump on the pillar. There is a
lion platform here; riding it will take you a long way up, taking a
set of blue jewels along the way.
At the checkpoint at the base of the volcano (the game will tell
you so if you're there) you should have collected 84 jewels.
When you jump along the disappearing platforms, after the 'base of
the volcano' checkpoint, somewhere to the left will be a side
alcove with some jewels in it.
Take care of the jumps downwards off the ramps; if you miss a
jewel, you'll have to kill yourself and try again, because you
can't get back up again.
At the final checkpoint, before the lava lake, you should have
collected 111 jewels.
After you completed the final lava lake 'puzzle', four additional
jewels can be found on the ramp leading up to the end of the level.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 9
Mission: Rescue the wizard and find a way to open the locked gate
After the first run through the platform course towards gaining the
golden arrow, you should have collected 89 jewels.
- The secret basement -
-----------------------
After you got the golden arrow, go back down and shoot it at the
four moving chess pieces (don't worry, the golden arrow will
regenerate each time you use it, near the gate where the magician
is standing). You'll hear a ringing sound each time you hit a chess
piece (they also slightly change colour, if I have observed
correctly). After you hit all the chess pieces, they will recede
into the four corners of the chessboard and a teleporter will
appear (a kind of blueish haze). Enter the haze and you will be
teleported to a secret basement below the chessboard. In the
basement are ten chests to be found, each one containing a jewel
(just shoot them with a regular arrow). There is another teleporter
in one of the corners of the basement. Use it to get back to the
main chessboard.
CAUTION: The teleporter cannot be created a second time, so be sure
to take all jewels in one visit.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
For the secret lion platform, do the platform course again which
originally took you to the golden arrow. When you reach the topmost
platform (the one the golden arrow was on), go in first person mode
and shoot a (regular) arrow at the flags on top of the towers in
the four corners of the chessboard (I think you should be aiming at
the hearts near the flag posts). Again, you will hear a ringing
sound if you do it right. When you have hit all flags, jump back
down and a lion platform will have appeared underneath the topmost
platform (the one you were on when shooting the flags). Jump on the
lion platform and ride it to a white crystal, far outside the
chessboard.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 10
Mission: Solve the secret of the stone monolith to break the
magical barrier
There's a lone blue jewel (and a vista point) near the beginning of
the level.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
When you have collected the explosive arrows in the 'disco cave'
(with the anti-gravity jumps), and stand on the farthest mushroom,
turn around and face the hollow tree trunk through which you
entered the cave. Look upwards and you'll see a lion platform
attached to the ceiling. Hit the lion platform with an explosive
arrow and it will descend. Ride the platform to a ledge high up in
the cave and collect all the jewels there.
In the stalactite cave, where you get the fire arrows, the
objective is just to make some difficult jumps in order to collect
all the jewels in the cave.
Solving the secret of the monolith will yield a number of yellow
jewels and one white crystal.
Don't forget to take up the jewels in the graveyards.
Near the exit is a large group of jewels to be found.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 11
Mission: Defeat the great tree
The stones generating knights and demon lions will give, when
destroyed, two blue jewels each.
There is a well-hidden white crystal on the ground level. If you
face the large tree (the one firing fireballs at you), go to the
left side of the tree and circle behind it. There is a root end
where you can jump over. Proceed further and a white crystal can be
found in the clearing behind the large tree.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
Just after the first checkpoint in the tree (so that will be the
second checkpoint of the level) there is a detour giving you a
number of extra jewels. Do not jump down (to the right, where the
main track is leading) but instead jump behind a vertical branch
leading you to a number of red jewels. There is also a lion
platform at the end of the branch. Jump on it and you will be taken
to another set of red jewels (and a vista point).
At the second checkpoint in the tree (where the water arrows can be
found) you should have 60 jewels. The rest can be found on the way
to the inside of the tree.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 12
Mission: Defeat the Guardian Dragon
- Lion platform -
-----------------
When facing the castle, shoot ALL the coats of arms that are
displayed on the castle front. A lion platform will appear in front
of the castle, taking you to a number of white crystals (two, if I
have counted correctly).
NOTE: I don't know if you have to shoot the coats of arms within a
set period of time, but do so as quickly as possible just to be
sure.
There is another little secret in this level: the curved stone
pillars (or pedestals, or whatever) on the perimeter of the central
ground have a heart-shaped sign on them with a little cross in it.
Shoot all heart signs with an explosive arrow to activate some
beams of red light emanating from the pedestals. When all beams
have been activated, a purple heart will appear in the centre of
the ground. This will be helpful in defeating the dragon.
CAUTION: Do NOT kill the dragon before getting all jewels, because
killing the dragon will end the level.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 13
Mission: Collect the magical playing cards to open the doors of the
castle
Shooting the chests in the first hall will reveal a number of
yellow jewels. This shooting of chests will occur through the rest
of the game as well, so I won't be mentioning this anymore from now
on. The barrels can be destroyed using fire arrows, but it will
gain you nothing, as far as I know.
NOTE: Shooting the coats of arms on the castle walls will sometimes
result in the creation of arrows.
In the Ace of hearts room, shooting the chandelier at the ceiling
will create a green heart on the floor. This will occur in other
comparable rooms as well. There are no jewels to be gained by this,
but I might as well mention it.
In the west courtyard, climbing up a set of crates will take you to
the rooftops, where you can find a number of yellow jewels. On the
ground floor, to the right of these crates is a crackled wall.
Shoot it with an explosive arrow to reveal a jewel in a secret
alcove.
In the northwest courtyard, shooting the bucket near the well will
result in a green heart.
In the northeast courtyard, once you enter the castle itself, to
the right there will be a door with an Ace of hearts on it. Open it
and you will see a well with a red jewel floating above it. Shoot
the chandelier hanging from the ceiling and the red jewel will
divide into a set of blue jewels on the ground.
- Secret passage -
------------------
This one is hard to describe. When you have mounted the stairs in
the northeast courtyard and did the jumps over the passageway
below, you will eventually come to a set of rooftops. Just before
you enter the castle buildings again, to the left, but still on the
rooftops, there is a crackled wall. Shoot it with an explosive
arrow to reveal a secret passageway with some stairs. Enter the
room above and you will be greeted by a number of annoying bats.
Kill the bats and shoot the chest in the center of the room, which
will then produce a great number of yellow jewels (and a lightning
arrow).
- Secret passage #2 -
---------------------
Once you got the Three of hearts, enter the as yet unopened door
(with the Three of hearts on it), enter the passageway and turn to
the left. Ahead of you you will see another crackled wall. Again,
shoot it with an explosive arrow. Inside you will find a green
jewel (and yet another explosive arrow).
Once you got the joker card on the topmost platform in the joker
tower, look ahead of you and you will see four shields attached to
the wall. Shoot them in the right order (as you did with the
others; the pattern is not difficult to figure out) and a whole set
of yellow jewels will appear which you can pick up on your way down
again.
- The secrets in the main hall -
--------------------------------
After you killed all enemies in the main hall, shoot the
chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. A collection of arrows and
hearts will appear, including a water arrow.
Then, shoot water arrows at the fire in the fireplace and at the
lit torches. When all three fire sources are extinguished, red
jewels will appear for each of them.
Next, shoot the yellow heart above one of the main doors (it's
quite high up). A lion platform will appear, taking you to a number
of jewels up in the air.
Finally, enter the next hall and you'll see a statue of Brigitte
Bleu. Shoot the red jewel flying around it and a set of blue jewels
will appear on the ground level.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 14
Mission: Make your way to the portal
This is again a very linear, straightforward level. A few points of
notice:
- The aeroplanes -
------------------
When you have reached the first tank, have Leo control the switch
of the laser of this tank (the switch is in fact beside the tank on
the ground). Fire the tank laser just as the aeroplanes fly by. The
planes will be destroyed by the laser gun, dropping a green jewel
each.
After you get to the second tank (after passing through the
pipelines) you will find a switch behind it (on the higher level).
Push it to destroy the tank, which will generate a number of
jewels.
In the 'doll's houses', destroy all furniture to reveal yet more
jewels.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
Then, backtrack to find a switch next to the ramp which took you
downwards earlier. Push the switch to trigger an explosion and a
lion platform will appear, which will take you over the boxes.
Proceed further and notice the control device with the two red
switches. Use the switches to solve the little train puzzle (it's
very simple, just try a few things). A little further on, in
between the boxes, a whole set of jewels can be collected.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 15
Mission: Find the way to the lower dungeon to rescue Vikki
In this level, remember that you must break all crates and barrels
with Leo's claws, because some of them will contain jewels.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
A simple lion platform puzzle awaits you in the second room (the
one with the large statue in the middle). Jump to the other side
and activate the switch there. A set of platforms stacked in the
alcove will now move to the centre of the room. There is a second
switch to one side of the room. Jump to it to activate it and then
jump to the opposite side of the room where there is a lion
platform, where you can easily grab two white crystals.
In the room where you have to destroy all the crates to reveal the
blue switches (with all the soldiers being spawned), when you have
destroyed the crates the actual spawner will be visible (a stone
emitting a green glow and generating soldiers). This stone can also
be destroyed, yielding an extra yellow jewel.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 16
Mission: Find Vikki in the cage room
The first part of this level is very straightforward. Remember to
destroy ALL crates and barrels you come across.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
After you solved the puzzle with the trapping of the ghosts and
have unlocked the sealed door, go through this door and follow the
path until you come to a small lower area with a lion platform
resting on the floor. Let's call this area the Starting point.
Activate the blue switch to your left and step on the lion
platform, which will then take you, via a rather long course, to a
ledge, collecting a whole set of jewels along the way. Collect the
jewels on this ledge, and then bactrack to the beginning of the
ledge. The lion platform will have disappeared and now you have to
make a jump down, collecting yet more jewels (you will just make
it). You will be back on the Starting point. Next, don't follow the
path indicated by the jewels, but instead dive into the green stuff
and follow a slight curve to the left (the green stuff will cause
some damage, but not much). You will see another line of yellow
jewels on a beach-like stretch of land. Pick them up and follow the
track to another ledge. Jump down and again you're back at the
Starting point. Now you can continue your way as indicated by the
line of jewels.
Once you start completing the final mission of the level (the
running around the circular track while hitting the counterweights)
take care that you collect all jewels on the track.
Near the switch releasing Vikki, a white crystal can be found.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 17
Mission: Find the golden arrow to unlock the way to the portal
This level is a complex series of hallways and pits. I will
describe them as best as I can.
After you did the first run through the hallway (with the closing
doors), jump over the pit to collect the yellow jewels, but do not
jump on the blue platform ahead. Instead, turn around and let
yourself fall in the pit. You will be in an underground hallway.
Run to the other side and get the fire arrow. You need not destroy
the barrels, as far as I know (they only contain hearts and arrows)
unless you need a particular type of arrow, of course. Run all the
way back again and use the fire arrow to shoot the shield on the
door and hit the switch. Run back again (notice there will be
created new yellow jewels on the way back) and, this time, jump on
the platform.
Jump to the other platform and again run through a hallway. This
time let yourself fall in the last pit (there will be a yellow
jewel there, so be careful to take it).
In the underground passageway destroy the first crate to get some
explosive arrows. Use one of them to destroy the door on the other
side. Hit the switch in the room, again head back and jump on the
blue platform. Jump to the other platform and enter yet another
hallway. Run through it and jump down the last pit, with the trail
of yellow jewels leading down into it (you can best first take the
jewels around and above the pit, then let yourself fall into it and
pick up the other ones). Again you are in an underground
passageway. Follow it to the end, take a lightning arrow from one
of the barrels and shoot the shield door.
Again take the platforms and run through the hallway, at last
finding the golden arrow in a barrel. Ride the platform and use the
golden arrow to shoot the door. You will be in the last hallway.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
If you look to the left a little way into the hallway, you will
notice a lion mask emitting smoke. Shoot it with an arrow and a
little further on, a lion platform will appear. Ride it to collect
the last jewels of the level.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 18
Mission: Defeat the flying saucer to get the key to the wedding
hall
After you passed the first door and rounded the sharp U-turn, there
is an easy-to-miss yellow jewel to the right (in the section with
the moving laser beams).
In the prehistoric world section, don't forget to destroy the
raptor's nest (spawner) with explosive arrows. The spawner is to be
found somewhere halfway the prehistoric section and the arrows can
be found next to it. The spawner's destruction will yield three
jewels.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
In the long room with the rolling energy spheres, go to the middle
section, a little way into the room. When you look upward, you will
see a line of jewels. Now turn towards the direction you came from,
and you will see a red switch on the metal parts dividing the two
passageways. Shoot the switch with an explosive arrow (but maybe
other types will work as well) and a lion platform will appear,
taking you up to the mentioned line of jewels.
For the next part, just collect all the jewels in sight and check
all the hallways. The last five jewels can be found in the
prehistoric world, where you will end up again on your way back to
the door at the beginning of the level, in order to prevent the
marriage.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 19
Mission: Find the way to the brain room
In the first half of this level, there are no real secrets.
Therefore I will jump directly to the large, circular, arena-shaped
dome with the pillar and sphere in the middle.
At the start of this section of the level, when you have to enter
the side passageway to the elevator in the pillar there (in order
to eventually shoot the floating blue balls) there is a green jewel
hidden behind this pillar.
- Lion platform -
-----------------
This is assuming that you have arrived at the topmost platform (the
one with the control panels) and have activated the low-gravity
device. When you look downward, you will see a set of platforms
(the ones you used earlier to get to the top) with a lighted,
circular pattern on them. When you jump on these platforms, the
lights will go out. Now the trick is to jump from platform to
platform (each time turning off the lights) until you arrive at the
platform directly opposite the final way out (the exit indicated by
the blue lights). I think you have to pass all of them, but I don't
know if you have to do it in a certain order (just do it in the way
you came). Anyway, when you have visited all lighted platforms, a
lion platform will descend from the top of the central pillar, like
an elevator. Then just go down, step on the lion platform and it
will take you up inside the energy sphere. You can then easily grab
all the jewels.
There are also jewels strewn across the large dome, but you can get
them all using low-gravity jumps. In fact it is quite fun to do it.
The best way is to go to a high enough location, centre a specific
jewel by going into first person mode, then go back to normal view
and jump. Turn the camera to a vertical vision angle, looking from
above, to make catching the jewels easier.
The last three jewels can be found on the way out.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
LEVEL 20
Mission: Defeat the brain
This level contains only one secret.
- The secret compartment -
--------------------------
Somewhere along the perimeter of the circular hall, you will see a
large red door, as if leading to some inner storage room. The trick
is to shoot the door with TWO piercing arrows, then it will open
and a lion platform will be revealed. Just collect the two red
jewels, jump on the lion platform and grab the white crystal.
My suggestion for clearing this level is to collect all regular
jewels, then retreat into the alcove with the red laser beams, shut
off the laser beams and wait for two piercing arrows to appear, one
after the other (they will regenerate after some time). Then, with
full health, make a run for the red door, open it, collect the
jewels and return. You can then easily finish off the brain.
There are also red switches along the perimeter of the hall, but
I'm not sure what these do if you turn them on. If I have observed
right, it creates a piercing arrow, but these will be regenerated
anyway, so I'm not quite certain as to their use.
Final score: 144.870.

WHAT DO YOU GET FOR GETTING A PERFECT GAME?
To say it briefly: you will get four pictures of Vikki, in various
poses, as a part of the 'extras' option in the 'options' section of
the main menu. These shots are quite good in their own right ;-)
but it's nothing special. No extra level, extra weapon or
whatsoever (at least not that I know). Well, of course, it's the
satisfaction of getting all jewels that counts, isn't it?
You will also get the message 'a perfect game!' at the closing of
the final level. And, of course, all 20 photographs taken at the
vista points (that is, if you have visited them all).
I established this simply by beating the final boss again, this
time without collecting all jewels of the last level.
- 3DO for making a nice game (well, 3DO gets bashed so often, let's
give 'em some credit this time);
- Crythania for suggesting to me to write this FAQ. It was the
little push I needed towards finally doing it.
