1. Introduction
---------------
Hello, and welcome to the Onimusha 3: Adventures of Heihachi FAQ/Walkthrough.
I am DarkBlade22. I haven't seen a FAQ for this short side quest yet, so I
figured I would write one for anyone who may be having trouble with this. I
hope someone can get some help out of this.

2. Controls
-----------
The controls for Heihachi in this game are the same as when you play as
Jacques or Samanosuke. Here are the controls:

- start - goes to inventory screen
- select - pauses; displays pause menu
- control pad/left analog stick(L3) - moves Heihachi
- x button - searches area
- square button - attacks
- circle button - absorb souls
- triangle button - use special attack
- right analog stick(R3) - n/a
- L1 button - block
- L2 button - displays current location; hold down the button
- R1 button - ready stance (lock on to enemies)
- R2 button - turn around

Heihachi attacks with a spear by slashing and stabbing. When he uses his
special attack, he twirls his spear around from top to bottom, hitting any
enemies in the way. He will spin his spear the more you press the triangle
button. Normally, the spear will glow green, but glows red when you use a
special attack. Your special attack does not use magic power.

3. Walkthrough
--------------
The Adventures of Heihachi is a bonus game that is accessible when you beat
the game for the first time. It follows Heihachi and what happens to him
during the times that Jacques and Samanosuke are exploring elsewhere. It also
explains some of the cutscenes where you encounter Heihachi during the main
game.

You access this game by selecting special features after completing the main
game once. Select the game "Adventures of Heihachi." You can start, or quit.
Select start to begin.

a. And Now, For Something Completely Different
----------------------------------------------
In the beginning, you will see the following text:

"Sakai city in Senshu.

Jacques and Samanosuke, on the trail of the genma, hear about the arrival of a
Western genma ship, and rush to the port.
Here, they meet Tadakatsu Heihachiro Honda, vassal to Ieyasu Tokugawa and
backwards samurai, who challenges the duo.
Heihachi shows no fear of the wielders of magic power, and appears ready to
take them on with just his spear. But Heihachi withdraws from the battle and
dashes off.
Jacques, with the help of Henri, leaves Sakai by jumping onto a western ship,
and Samanosuke is left alone at the port.
This chapter covers the exploits of Heihachi after that point."

This pretty much explains it all. Your adventures as Heihachi begin directly
after your first meeting at the port in Sakai.

In this game, you will randomly encounter several monsters found in the normal
course of the game, including ninjas, soul suckers, jelly monsters, and a
variety of regular genma, big and small. There are a couple of surprises,
which will be discussed below. Normal battle tactics apply, and you will be
able to obtain dropped items and suck up souls (though there is so far no
apparent point of this - you never use them).

When you start, you have the following items in your inventory:
- Genma Tonbo - Only a master can wield this genma spear.
- Soul Rosary - Contains Oni power and can capture genma souls.
- herb (2)- refills a slight amount of HP
- medicine (1) - refills a medium amount of HP
The Genma Tonbo will be your weapon. The Soul Rosary will let you absorb all
kinds of souls, although the only apparent ones you can use are the yellow
ones.

b. Sakai - Defending the Town
-----------------------------
When you begin, Heihachi will be contacted by someone who tells him that the
town is under attack. With the help of past Samanosuke, who stayed behind and
offers to help, Heihachi will set out to protect the villagers.

Heihachi can wander anywhere in the town, but his adventure is pretty
straightforward. You begin at the dock, and are told to find the blacksmith.
Fight your way off of the dock and out of the pier area, back into the town.
In the main part of town, you will fight more monsters, with the help of
Samanosuke. It is here that you will find the save point. Save if you must,
and fight to the market. Fight through here, and go to the blacksmith's shop.

Here, you will find, instead of the blacksmith, his apprentice. He explains
about the blacksmith's death, and will tell you what you must do to lower the
drawbridge (your ultimate goal). You will gain the blacksmith memo, which
tells you how to use Oni dust, and you will receive some Oni dust from the
apprentice. Now, you must find the ironstone so that the apprentice can forge
a gear for the bridge mechanism.

To continue, simply throw the Oni dust into the nearby fireplace, and a portal
will appear. Step in to warp to the Sea Temple.

c. Sea Temple - Heihachi's 5 Minutes of Fame
--------------------------------------------
Heihachi appears in the room in the Sea Temple where Jacques and Samanosuke
found the first elevator (the one that took you to the library with the first
dark realm). See that timer at the top of the screen? That's right. Heihachi
has five minutes to get in, get the ironstone, and get out.

Fight your way through the rooms to the main circular room, where you found
the three colored doors, the soul well, the warp stone and the save point in
the main game. Once here, find the purple door (you can't enter the other
door), and enter.

You will find yourself in the hallway where Sam encountered a flood in the
main game. Go through here, but be careful: Gertrude is here! The two-headed
monster is here in all its glory, and all its attacks. Try to squeeze by,
since Heihachi does not have nearly the power of Jacques and Sam at this point
of the game. Try to fight if you want. Don't say I didn't warn you.

On the other side, you will find yourself in the 2nd elevator room, where you
could get to the power room and the upper balcony of the ship room. All the
doors are blocked by energy, and you will be attacked by genma. Fight them,
and you will be able to pick up the Crimson Stone (this is the ironstone that
the apprentice needs). Lo and behold, a cutscene plays - the same one that
you saw in the main game when you explored this section as Jacques! At last,
that mystery is explained.

Fight your way back the way you came, including past Gertrude (you can go in
the ship room, but there is really no point). Once you make it back to the
teleporter room, however, you get your second surprise - Ranmaru! You can try
to fight if you want (I didn't - I'm not sure how strong he is compared to me,
but I'm not taking chances), but by now your time may be low, so just simply
step into the teleporter and warp back.

d. Sakai - The Unsightly Growth on Heihachi's Back
--------------------------------------------------
When you appear back in the blacksmith shop, give the Crimson Stone to the
apprentice. He is thankful, but now informs you that he needs some seawater
to complete the forging of the gear. You get a new objective: to go to the
wharf and get some seawater. Suddenly, Heihachi has a barrel attached to his
back! You'll see a meter on the side of the screen. This measures how much
water you are carrying, once you find some water.

Leave the shop and fight your way all the way back to where you began this
side quest, at the dock. Look near the end, and you will find a staircase
leading down to the water. Go down this staircase, go to the water's edge, and
search. You will be able to fill your barrel, which will fill all the way to
the top.

You must now make it back to the blacksmith. This is more difficult than it
sounds. Attack well with your sword, for each hit that an enemy lands will
drain some of your water. And if you are unlucky to be knocked down by one
of the heavy hitters near the shop, you will lose all of your water. So be
careful.

Be careful on your way back. Near the shop, you will encounter some monkey
demons, and a big plant monster. You may want to kill this plant first, and
then go back for more water later. If you can get past it with some water,
great, but rest assured that the plant will be gone when you come back.

Once you make it back, give the apprentice the water. I'm not sure how much
water you must give him, but I got back with half a barrel, and he accepted
it. He'll forge the Crimson Gear and give it to you.

============================================================
I received this e-mail from Shigmiya64:

“I just want to give you some small tidbits about this
minigame in Onimusha 3. First, at the part when you
need to get water to the blacksmith, I got there with
so little water that I’m pretty sure the bar was lower
than the top of the ‘E’ next to the bar, and it was still
enough, so apparently you don’t need much at all.
Also, if you get hit by or block the attack those snake
things do when they breathe on you, it will actually
fill your water meter a little bit. Finally, when you’re
doing the special attack where the spear glows red,
apparently you’re also blocking, because if you get
hit you don’t take damage while doing the attack."

 Thanks very much!
============================================================

Make your way back into the main part of town and find the mechanism near the
side of the bridge. Put the gear on, and the drawbridge will raise up.
Congratulations! Oh, wait a minute, some ogres just appeared. During this
battle, you can't save, but it isn't that tough. Simply defeat the ogres and
the genma that accompany them, and your mission it complete.

e. The End of Your Adventures
-----------------------------
At the end, you will see this text:

"It is unknown whether Heihachi is friend or foe based on his actions. Even
after appearing at the Mont-Saint-Michel, his true intentions are not clear.
It will still be some time before Jacques and Samanosuke can understand the
true motivations of this man.

Adventures of Heihachi: The End"

And so ends your adventures with Heihachi. I hope you enjoyed this short, but
informative side quest.

4. In Closing
-------------
This is an interesting unlockable. It does clear up some of the cut scenes
found in the game that otherwise just made no sense. It could have been
longer, though. This game just covered one segment of Heihachi's goings-on
in the game. Capcom could have included the meeting at Mont-Saint-Michel, his
apparent relationship with Donna, his dealings with the genma, meeting Sam and
Jacques at the lake, and of course his final stand against Ranmaru. So much
untapped potential that could have been used to flesh out the character. But
at least it is an interesting diversion, one that allows you to get just a
little more gameplay out of the game after the end leaves you wanting more.
