Welcome everyone to my first guide.
So I am assuming you just went to the store and got yourself a copy of
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja and just dying to put it in your PS2 and play.
This guide is for the American version of Naruto:ultimate Ninja.
Not the Japanese version if you have one throught imports or something
this guide has different names for jutsus and characters and
uses game changes.
So lets get on with the guide.

|II. Game Info

2.1 Controls
(Note:These are default settings. You can change them in Naruto's House)
L1, R1: Select tool(Square to use)
L2, R2: Guard/Block
2.2 Techniques
Additional Hits: This is when you throw your opponet into the air for
"additional hits". When this happens mash the O button it avoid being hit.
Everytime your opponet or you dodges it speeds up making it harder to dodge.
If you are close to the wall whoever ends up by the wall will hit.
Counts: Each battle has a in game counter. If time runs out the match will
be a draw. Each count is about 3 seconds.
Foreground/Background: Hold up and X to move into the background and
down and X to go to the foreground. Use this to chase your enemy,
reach your support character or attack your opponets or reach the "specials".
Objects: There are many in game objects in each location the can be destoryed.
Destroying them will get you a item. To destroy a object hit it it will flash
white then yellow then red and finnaly break.
Rush in: Tap the X button twice and push the direction you want to go in
to rush in. In mid-jump all kunai or shuriken bounces off. To rush back
tap the X twice and the arrow opposite the direction of your opponet.
Secret scrolls: There is a secret scroll in each location. You can obtain
it by doing something specific. Collecting all scrolls completes a S-Rank
mission. Everything else on what to do will be explained in the
"Secret Scroll" Section.
Special Ability: Some characters have special abilities. Using certian level
special techniques will activate it for a short period of time.
Stage Shift: Once in a while you will see a ^ + X stage shift for a few
seconds. Pushing this will allow you to change location and regain 10% health.
Doing this again will make you go back. Your opponet can do the same
and regain 10% health.
Substitution Jutsu: Hit the L2 or R2 button just before you enemy hits you.
This will result you behind your enemy giving to a advantage and a log in
the orignal place. Attacks can be avoided like this. However this may
be a bit hard for you need perfect timing. This move can make the difference
between win or loss.
Support Characters: Each character has its own support character. So does
your opponet. When you approach your support character will drop a item
for you. The item can be a ninja tool/health boost/chakra boost or any other
item.
2.2 Secret Techniques
Each characters have a special ability. To use it tap the triangle button.
Each tap brings it up a level. The maxium is 3 and is limited to your chakra
level. Each character technique will be explained in the next section.
When you have the technique activated you will have a aura around you.
Red = Level 1
Purple= Level 2
Blue = Level 3
It will only last a few seconds and you have to hit your enemy in that time
to use it. Usually you enemy will block so you will have to catch him/her
off guard.
Sometimes using a certian level techniques will activate special techniques
such as sharingan in certian characters.
Once in the technique you will have to push a certian set of buttons to keep
it going. You have until the bar runs out which is around 2 seconds. (No
this is not like UN2 or UN3 where you have a never ending stream or push the
button until you die or something). On level one you have 4 buttons. On two
5 buttons(or 6 if your character only has 2 levels) and finally 6 on three.
If your opponet pushs the buttons sucessfully he/she will have damage reduced
to half. Same if you are attacked.(But better avoid :))

|III. Main Menu
================================================
Scenario:
Play through your favorite character as the hero
Missions:
Complete missions to gain cash
Practice:
Practice with each character. Such as different moves jutsus etc. The
CPU character wont fight back nor get defeated. This can be changed in
settings. This is a good way to obtain hidden scrolls.
Free Battle:
Freely battle with a AI or someone else. You can unlock characters in
scenario mode and locations can be unlocked.
Naruto's House:
Change game settings here and view obtained items.
Shop:
Here you can use earned cash to obtain items.
(And poor Naruto has to carry all those heavy scrolls)
This mode you play as your favorite character as the hero and follow his/her
story. You can also unlock characters for free battle, practice and missions.
4.1 Characters
There are a total of 6 orignal default characters.

4.Rock Lee
5.Hakate Kakashi
6.Nara Shikamaru
Play any character to unlock the next playable character in scenario.
4.2 Unlockable characters
Beating the unlocked character will unlock the next one for scenerio and for
free battles, missions and pratice modes. There are a total of 14 characters
and 8 unlockable.

The diffculty is easy because Orochimaru is really powerful!
Completed! Now you can use Orochimaru in battle,mission and pratice mode.
Yes it ends here you have completed scenario mode. You can still replay
them all over again.
Now its time for the missions. This is probaly the hardest part of the game.
Each mission has special requirements to pass. There are 7 ranks and certian
EXP is needed to move on.

A rank is required for each mission. Here are the mission ranks from lowest
to highest with the total amount:
Practice Missions - Total: 5
D-Rank Missions - Total: 15
C-Rank Missions - Total: 15
B-Rank Missions - Total: 15
A-Rank Missions - Total: 10
S-Rank Missions - Total: 12
(Not all missions are visible at the start of the game.)
Total Missions: 72
For each mission its really a battle with special requirements. Unlock some
characters first the defaults wont get you real far. Orochimaru is good.
Academy Student Rank Missions Rank needed:Academy Student
Client: Kakashi Hatake
Battle Opponent: Naruto Uzumaki
Conditions:
Win the battle.
Possess a "Special Ninja Tools".
Diffculty: 2/10
Just as simple as the first. But this time you need to get a
"special ninja tool". These are like those gold stars. They are special
if they have a X over it if your not on the some level(background/foreground)
as your opponet.
Conditions:
Win the battle.
Possess a "The Weight of Gut".
Diffculty: 2/10
Same as the last one but now you need the "Weight of Gut".
These slow your opponets speed. They look somewhat like giant erasers with
2 red dots on them.
Conditions:
Win the Battle.
Preserve more than 50% of life.
Diffculty: 2/10
Now another easy battle. Except this time you need to perserve your health
at 50% or higher. So just attack alot and make sure to defend yourself.
A health pickup would help.
Conditions:
Win the battle
Defeat the enemy by using a Level 2 Special Technique.
Diffculty: 2.5/10
This is little bit harder. Start of by fighting Neji down to about 20-30%
health left. Then restore and chakra to at least level 2 chakra. Then catch
him off guard and finish him off with level 2 special technique.
Conditions:
Win the battle.
Defeat the enemy by using a Level 1 Secret Technique
Diffculty: 2-3/10
Just like the eariler one. But you use level 1 secret technique instead.
Attack until Naruto has about 15-20% health left,
restore all chakra to level 1. Now catch him off guard and finish him off.
Conditions:
Win the battle.
Climb up the wall for more than 3 counts.
Preserve Chakra above Level 2
Diffculty: 4.5/10
Missions are now harder! Stay on the wall for 3 counts (9 seconds). Then
fight Sakura until she has almost no health left. Restore all chakra to level
2 or higher then finish her off.
Conditions:
Win the battle.
Defeat the enemy within 30 counts.
Give more than 3 additional blows to the enemy.
Diffculty: 4-5/10
This is a little different. It now has "additional blows". No these are not
"extra" hits. To do this grab him and push a direction and mash the O key.
Then hit him and repeat 3 times. But do it fast and finish him off you only
have 30 counts(90 seconds).
Conditions:
Win the battle.
Don't use any special techniques.
Don't use any Jutsu.
Diffculty: 5.5/10
Now this time its the same but no jutsus. So mash the O key and beat Lee but
be careful not to accidently use a jutsu when pushing the arrow key
(if you do)

Battle Opponent: Orochimaru
Conditions:
Win the battle
Defeat the enemy by using a Level 3 Special Technique.
Diffculty: 5/10
This may be hard. Orochimaru is a bit hard to defeat. But as usual beat
him(or her?) down to 25-30% or lower health and finish him (or her? again?)
off with level 3 special technique.
Conditions:
Win the battle.
Finish off the enemy when their Chakra is at 0.
Diffculty: 5.5/10
Now this one may seem hard. To do this use a character such as Neji or
Hinata. In the battle use a level 2 secret technique. This will activate
byakugan. Now dont stop attacking every hit will suck chara away. Drain
Sasuke's chakra to 0 then finish him off.

|VI. Practice
================================================
In this mode you can practice modes on a dummy. Here you can complete 2
S-rank missions. By completing all moves you finish the mission
"Secret Technique Information". Obtaining all scrolls in practice is easy.
Once getting all scrolls you finish "Acquisition of the secret scroll".
First in Practice mode select you character and the dummy. Continue and on
the next screen push square to open the options menu. Under options:
Command Display: On/Off
Item Appearance: High/Normal/Low
Support Character: Appear/Not Appear
Special Techniques: Enabled/Disabled
CPU AI Pattern: Off/Guard/Attack
Here you can toggle wether the dummy can defend him/herself. Now continue on.
In practice mode you and your enemy both have infinte health and chakra. It
will fall be comes back fast. Push start and go the command chart to see
which moves you have completed.
Free battle you can randomly battle vs. CPU or your friends. There are 6
default characters you can unlock more in scenario and mission mode. Select
your character and CPU/Player 2. O is randomly select and square opens the
battle chart. Then select location and options then start. Here you can
complete 2 S-rank missions. The missions "Make OutParadise" and
"The Passionate Battle of Men".

You can finish any missions related with them. This will take a really
time so maybe you can just hold the O key and watch TV for 30 minutes
or something.

|IX. Hidden Scrolls
================================================
In every location doing a specfic action gets you a hidden scroll. Obtaining
all of them completes a S-Rank mission.
Chuunin Exam Stadium
Go into the tunnel on the left and come out the right. Repeat 3 times to get
the scroll.
Great Naruto Bridge
Stand on the foreground on the boat until you get a scroll.
Hero's Memorial Stone
Hit the enemy's support character 5 times once for each one.
Hokage's Mountainside Images
Jump onto the tree on the left over and over until you get the scroll.
Ichiraku Ramen
Hit all laterns until they flash red but do not break them.
Kazekage's Mansion
Attack the vending machine until you get a scroll.
Kikyo Castle
Stand on the tail of the fish on the right until you get a scroll.
Lookout Tower
Jump from the Frog to the Snake then back. Repeat until you get a scroll.
No. 44 Exercise Ground: The Forest of Death
Attack the siler fish in the stream until you get the scroll.
Sunagimo Estate and Buddha Statue
Destory 8 items in the tornadoe
Survival Exercise Ground
Destroy the dummy the right around 10 times until you get a scroll.
Zabuza's Hideout
Go up into the attic and wait until you get a scroll.
