I. Start menu

1. Start new game
2. Continue

II. Menu (game mode selection screen)

1. Choose game mode screen

1) Story mode

Story mode is where you go to unlock characters, and they unlock in
order; all you have to do is start off story mode with any default character
(I will list the default characters in order from the starting point of
the circle going to the right; according to the scrolls; then put the
unlock characters in their order of unlock) and unlock the hidden character
and play story mode again to be able to unlock the next hidden character

NOTE: When you unlock a character he or she is not fully unlocked till
you defeat their story in story mode; once you have done that you
will be able to use them in versus; missions; etc...

---Default characters--- (scrolling to the right direction)

1) Uzamaki, Naruto (orange scroll; the first scroll centered in the
screen
2) Haruno, Sakura (pink scroll)
3) Hatake, Kakashi (dull grayish green scroll)
4) Nara, Shikamaru (dull brown scroll)
5) Rock Lee (green scroll)
6) Uchiha, Sasuke (royal blue scroll)

---Unlocked Characters--- (listed by unlock order; all you have to do is
defeat story mode with the unlocked character
to unlock the next unlock able character)

1) Hyuga, Neji (mid gray scroll)
2) Hyuga, Hinata (peach scroll)
3) Haku, (silver scroll)
4) Momochi, Zabuza (light blue scroll)
5) Sabaku no Gaara (brown scroll)
6) Orochimaru (purple scroll)

2. Missions

In this you can do missions, which are required objectives you need to
fulfill within your fight against your opponent. i.e. the introduction
level, for the first mission is defeat Kakashi within 30 seconds. If you
pass you will not only earn the money from the fight, but also from the
mission. Each rank has a different type of "pay check" the higher the
rank mission the more money you earn for each mission. If you fail you
earn money from the fight, but you earn no mission money/ pay check.

3. Practice

Here you can practice any moves you want to and specials with unlimited
health and chakra (power; needed to do jutsu (special techniques) and the
special; it also allows you to stand on water; I will later explain it in detail)

1) first screen is character select; if you press triangle it will
give you random select.

2) second screen shows who is fighting; if you press square it will
take you to the practice option screen

you have just completed; in other words the waza/ jutsu/

c. third option, support character option; first option (left)
turn support character on; second option (right) to turn

6. Shop

this is where you used your hard earned money to buy unlocks for Naruto's
room's second scroll (star); as you progress in buying items and rank in the
missions you will unlock the other ball machines. the more you spend the
higher the chance you have to get an item, but it does not necessarily mean that
you will unlock a new item

III. Controls

1. menu screen controls

D-pad - movement between menus and options
circle - select/ confirm
x - cancel
square - none
triangle - none
R1 - none
R2 - none
R3 - none
L1 - none
L2 - none
L3 - movement between menus and options
while in an option screen pressing select will set menus to default

2. in battle controls

D-pad - movement; hold up to taunt, hold down to charge chakra
circle - attack
x - jump
square - throw items
triangle - charge chakra levels to do specials
R1 - toggle through items
R2 - block/ counter
R3 - none
L1 - toggle through items
L2 - block/ counter
L3 - movement; hold up to taunt, hold down to charge chakra

3. Movement between backgrounds; while in battle you may jump from
foreground and background by pressing up + x or down + x; you're
support character will always be on the level opposite of the level
that you are in.

4. Movement between stages; during battle if you are being "pounded"
by your opponent, once in a while, an option will flash on your
screen saying to press up + x, and if you do this you will trigger
the option to go the secondary stage of that stage. Plus you gain
a little health back for doing this too.

5. Walking on water and climbing vertical edges; both are automatic,
but walking on water uses chakra so if you have no chakra you will
sink to the bottom and lose a little life. Climbing requires no
chakra so all you do is run straight into a vertical edge and you
will automatically run up the edge.

IV. Oiuchi, kawarimi no jutsu

(three ways of doing oiuchi)

1. Oiuchi is a type of smash in this game, which sends your opponent
flying. This move is VERY simple to do; all you need to do is
know what a good combo is for which character to do it with.
After all, some characters while on the ground will do a combo
jutsu; i.e. for Naruto you press circle, circle, circle, up +
circle, and instead of hitting the opponent up into the air
he'll do the sexy technique; while for other characters they'll
launch their opponent into air and they'll come falling back down
to earth, but in order to smash them down, all you have to do is
press circle at the end of the combo of a character that doesn't
end their combo with a jutsu; i.e. Rock Lee you press circle,
circle, circle, up + circle, circle and you should be able to do
the air oiuchi that smashes the opponent down into the ground.
(If you can't get it, just keep smashing circle till it
happens)

2. Jump to oiuchi - To me the best way to do it is with the x, x
dash, that fast one, because it is in the air if you finish
the combo with any directional button will smash the opponent
in the direction of your combo, like if you hold up while
pressing circle three times, you'll hit the opponent up and
smash him/ her down into the ground. With the jump dash you
can oiuchi the opponent any direction, including if you are
high enough you can actually hold down and do the oi uchi
downwards, meaning you hit them down and smashes them upwards
it is pretty interesting to watch. This is actually the
easiest way to pull it off ^___~

3. Throw and into oiuchi, all you do is do the throw back +
circle, and press circle again. If you can not pull this
off keep smashing the circle button till you get it. This
method is very easy too, easier to do than that jump dash,
but harder to pull off, because throws require you to be at a
close enough distance to grab the opponent, and the only way
that usually happens is if they are blocking, but for the
dash jump, you can be a good distance away dash at them hit
them, plus the dash deflects some thrown items (mainly the
default item),and it's fast. For me I am deadly with Orochimaru
with the dash jumps into combos into oiuchi into counters oiuchis;
he is just way to damn fast.

1.a. to counter the oiuchi; all you have to do is press
toward (in the direction of) the enemy + circle;
now don't rest there, just because you countered
doesn't mean your opponent can't counter you back. In
fact counters can go on to i don't know forever? Till
one of the characters get knocked away. (NOTE: as the
amount of counters increase, the faster the hit time
becomes. Just to elaborate: when you counter
you press toward the enemy + circle from the time
that he or she teleports behind you, and the time that he
or she is about to pound you in the opposite direction.
but if that is not working for you either; just simply
hold the analog or D-pad direction in the direction of
the enemy and keep smashing the circle, this is an okay
strangest (for me) especially when both me and the enemy
counter each other like 5 times...Now that gets crazy fast!

1. Kawarimi no Jutsu - best way to get it to work is with R2 and L2;
but I have been able to pull it off with back. I have experience
with having it work by holding back and blocking and pressing R2 or
L2 and doing it while blocking, so that is possible too. I am not
sure how to time it, (luckily it comes natural :-P) but it's about
right when they are about to hit you and when they connect, or it
could actually be when they hit you and right when they touch you
you by chance hit R2 or L2 it might work. Sorry still working
on mastering it and figuring the timing of it. But you can pretty
much do this anytime you please as long as you have the timing.
You can do it for the first hit of the combo, or if you fail the
first time you can actually try again by the forth hit, or the
jutsu hit/ hit that leads to the oiuchi hit. You can even counter
right before the opponent grabs you for a throw and when they pull
you to the opposite side of them to throw you/ in front of them.

(NOTE: To save yourself from a fall; if you failed to do the kawarimi
you still have a chance to save yourself from falling down and
go through the trouble of standing up. Near the top of your
arch (as you fly through the sky) press x, if you get the
timing right you should be able to recover from the hit,
and while still in the air dash and attack. If you fail to do
that near the end of the fall (usually right before you hit
the ground) press x, and you should bounce off the ground.
(For the oiuchi I still haven't figured how to jump back after
you get smashed down)

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
V. Special abilities

NOTE: when I say toward and away (movements) I mean in respect
to the enemy

In this game I categorize the special abilities (attacks that take up chakra)
into 3 groups

1. Jutsu - technique very simple to pull off and minimum use of chakra.
Button combination for all characters are down, down circle

2. Combo into Jutsu - a regular combo with circle but ending in the
last part of the combo with either up + circle,
down + circle, toward + circle, or away + circle;
everyone's combo jutsu is different. i.e;
Naruto's combo jutsu ends with his "sexy
technique" button combo for that is circle,
circle, circle, up + circle; or you can do the
cheaty way that i do (easier :-P) press
circle, up + circle (repeat up + circle till the
end of the combo or jutsu comes out; easiest way
to guess and check whose combo jutsu ends with
what, because characters like Zabuza end their
combo with toward + circle

3. Specials - all you have to do is have on your chakra bar up to one
to three circles lighted up and glowing to be able to
charge it up to do an attack; in other words press
triangle and then circle to do the attack. Depending
which player you are; first or second; you will have
to look on the either right or left corner of the
screen and read and input the combo from down to up...
If you succeed in doing this you will either take
minimum damage or succeed and continue to the next
phase/ stage of the super and greaten the damage you
inflict. For some levels, certain characters will have
different effects happen to them. There is a little
chart for each character and effect for each super.

1. triangle + circle; level one special
2. triangle, triangle + circle; lvl 2
3. triangle, triangle, triangle + circle; lvl 3

Special effects

(phases are the scenes or stages within the special
also meaning you end it on that phase to get that
enhancement)

lvl 1
phase 1 - no enhancement

VII. hidden scrolls

These are obtainable in any mode, best way to obtain them would be in practice
mode.

ramen shop:
Lower level - hit all the lanterns till they glow red, but don't destroy them.

Hokage Rock stage:
lower level - jump repeadiatly on the tree to the left.

Hero's gravestone map:
hit your opponents support character 5 times.

survival stage:
Upper level - destroy the doll on the right side until the scroll shows up
around 10 times.

testing stage:
Lower level - run through the tunnel left and exit from the right 3 times.

Wind clan:
Lower level - keep hitting the vending machine until it pops out.

Sand map:
Upper level - destroy 8 objects that are flying around the tornado. (tornado
comes around with only 2 objects a time; but returns a infinite
amount of times)

Rooftop:
Upper level- on the statue of the fish on the right, stand on top of the
highest segment of the tail and keep on till the scroll pops up.

forest of death:
Lower level- hit the (silver)fish on the left till the scroll comes out (about
2 - 3 times). In the river of course.

Sight-seeing tower (giant frog and snake):
Upper level - Jump from the top of the frog to the snake and then return the
same way back. (easiest way to do this is in practice mode so
you can jump, double jump and dash to the head of the snake,
then do the same to get back to the frog; if the CPU is on, it
might follow you to the upper stage and doing the dash jump will
result in you automatically dashing toward the enemy and not
making the jump all the way.

Momochi zabuza's home:
Upper level - stand on top of the attic (it is a little ledge at the top of the
room area, you can climb the tree and/ or jump to the top and
into the attic, then stay there till you obtain the scroll.

Bridge:
Lower level - wait on the boat till you obtain it.

VIII. Personal tips

1. Memory cards: Yes it is possible to use an American memory card
and save Japanese memory without problems, even
if you do use a Japanese memory card you can
still get corupt data, like I did. To save you
the pain of going through the game and losing
all your hard work and having to do everything
again, like I had to, turn off auto save, because
it's the default setting for it to be on. If you
want to know how to do this, I explained it in the
menu section under Naruto's room; II. section 5.
(not "5)" I used that as a sub section of a section.

2. Modding your Ps2: I highly recommend NOT doing this, for
one I don't trust modding something that nearly
costing me 300 dollars, it is way too risky.
Plus if it works, I heard some stories that the
Ps2's disk reader/ laser starts to act up after
sometime, so you'll end up having to buy a new
one in about 2 - 3 years. So you might as well
just invest in getting a Japanese Ps2. Faster
easier and saves you the trouble of having to
to buy two of the same Ps2's. With a Japanese
one think of all the old Japanese ps games you
could be playing with out doing the "swap" or
risking the well fare of your Ps2.

3. Missions: Before you attempt any missions I suggest you go play
some free battle mod, and get used to every character
and see which one fits like a glove for you; or which
characters would fit for certain missions; i.e. For
fast missions I like to use Orochimaru, because he is
fast, quick, and very deadly; he has the shortest lag
time between attacks, and recovers extremely fast.
For other missions like stay on the water I like to
use Gaara, he is slow, but all his attacks have nice
range to them so you can keep your opponent away from
you as the counter goes down and you pass the mission.
As for the Sasuke missions where you need to defeat him
when he has no chakra, I suggest Neji or Hinata. Their
level 2 super, byakugan, allows you to kill the
opponent's chakra as long as you connect a hit, so even
if they block they lose chakra; as long as Neji or
Hinata glow white. For items missions, where you need
to defeat the opponent using only items, Rock Lee is
the best; his support Gai Sensei's attack is
unblock able, and packs a serious punch. For the
the missions that require you to win with a certain
item; to do it the easy way, requires you to have
have played some games at the ball machine. When you
play you will notice that sometimes you win items,
these items are useable in any battle, excluding
practice mode, I explained how to retrieve it in under
the menu section for free battle; II. section 4. Anyway
you retrieve the item that is needed and you defeat your
enemy and you win, Yay! you deserver a cookie :-P
