1.0 – (9-19-05): The main layout of the FAQ has been finalized and
typed out. The Table of Contents has been added as an outline for the
rest of the FAQ’s sections. The main headings and controls, as well as
the basics of Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks have been added. The
walkthrough is complete through halfway through the Wu Shi Academy.

2.0 – (9-28-05): Due to being a junior in college and having lots ‘o
work, I have not been able to work on the FAQ a whole lot the past
couple of days. I have however, for the newest version, finished the
Evil Monastery and the Living Forest part of the walkthrough.

3.0 – (5-17-06): My school year is almost done, so what does that mean?
Me finally finishing this darn thing. I completed the Soul Tombs
portion of the FAQ and look to be closing out the walkthrough portion
in the coming days. The token locations, Fatality descriptions and
Smoke Missions will come in one last update.

4.0 – (5-18-06): I completed the Wastelands, Deadpool and Netherrealm
in this update. The Foundry is next on the list as well as the other
incomplete sections of the FAQ. I want to get this done ASAP so I can
begin on my Armageddon FAQ :) Good thing I’m almost done.

5.0 – (5-19-06): The entire walkthrough is complete as well as sections
IV, and V. Sections VI, VIII, IX and X will all be included in the
last update. Look for that either this weekend, or early next week.

6.0 – (9-25-06): I completed the entire FAQ. Liu Kang and Kung Lao’s
Move and Fatality Lists have been added; Boss Strategies, Token
Locations and the Secret Characters Move and Fatality Lists as well as
the Smoke Missions have all been completed. Expect no further updates
to the FAQ after this is posted.

[I. Introduction to Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks]
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<^>^<^

Before some of you cringe at the thought of another Mortal Kombat
adventure game, there are a few things that need to be cleared up.
First and foremost, Shaolin Monks in no way resembles either
Mythologies: Sub-Zero or Special Forces. Instead it seeks to
distinguish itself through a robust move upgrade system, ko-op
gameplay, multidirectional kombat, extra modes of play, unlockable
characters, and a complete arcade port of Mortal Kombat II among other
things. Along with its vast gameplay options, Shaolin Monks takes
place between Mortal Kombat 1 and II which can only lead to a deep and
engaging storyline. The game does not disappoint in this arena, and
will have gamers on the edge of their seats until the conclusion.
Shaolin Monks’ main gameplay attraction is the ability to play ko-
op with a friend. And let me be the first to say that playing ko-op is
an absolute blast and should not be missed out on. Along with the
initially playable Liu Kang, and Kung Lao, there are a few other secret
characters waiting to be unlocked for use in the single player game as
well as the VS. Mode. Sure, the graphics may be a little rough around
the edges, but the exciting gameplay is what really adds to the
atmosphere of this well-crafted game. I strongly urge anyone, fan of
Mortal Kombat or not, to at least rent the game and give it a try. I’m
certain you won’t regret it. Earthrealm is in dire need of saving and
it is up to Kang and Lao to do it. So sharpen your hats and perfect
your turkey screams, the minions of Outworld await you.

[II. The Story of Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks]
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<^>^

(Taken from the Instruction Booklet):

“In the final battle of the first Mortal Kombat tournament, Liu
Kang defeated Shang Tsung and saved Earthrealm for domination. But in
the confusion of a mysterious earthquake, Shang Tsung and his fellow
conspirators escaped through a portal to Outworld. Kung Lao, who had
been posing as a Masked Guard, helped his fellow Shaolin Monk escape
the crumbling island. Liu Kang and his allies narrowly escaped with
their lives.”

“When they returned home, the Wu Shi Academy was invaded by Baraka
and his Tarkatan horde in an attempt to defy the rules of Mortal Kombat
and take Earthrealm by force. Although the Shaolin Monks fended off
the invastion, Raiden sensed a deeper conspiracy and urged the Shaolin
Monks to defeat Shang Tsung in Outworld. Will they succeed? Or will
they succumb to Shang Tsung’s evil plot?”

Continuing in the footsteps of Deadly Alliance and Deception
before it, Shaolin Monks presents the player with one of the most
satisfying and downright cool opening FMV sequences I have ever seen.
Below is a detailed description of what occurs:

The FMV starts out in Shang Tsung’s Palace at the tail end of the
first Mortal Kombat; Tsung is sitting in his throne watching the action
unfold. It is every man for himself with Johnny Cage fighting Reptile,
Scorpion and Sub-Zero battling it out as well as Kano and Sonya going
at it. Scorpion and Sub-Zero are then shown fighting each other.
Scorpion punches Sub-Zero in the face causing him to reel back. Sub-
Zero shakes it off and freezes Scorpion; Zero proceeds to kick the
frozen Scorpion to the ground. Kano comes up behind Zero and punches
him in the face causing Sonya to attack and kick Kano around. Kano
gains the upper hand on Sonya so Johnny Cage comes to her rescue
backflip-kicking Kano to the ground. With Kano downed, Cage puts on
his sunglasses only to have Reptile lash out his tongue and wrap it
around Cage’s neck pulling him over. Reptile proceeds to munch on
Cage’s head causing massive amounts of blood to spill out. Out of
nowhere, Liu Kang comes up from behind Reptile and kicks him in the
head causing him to release Johnny Cage’s neck. A dumbfounded Shang
Tsung stands up and prepares to fight.
Tsung motions for his Masked Guards to attack, but Kang quickly
uppercuts one in the face and runs up the other’s bladed staff only to
Bicycle Kick him in the face. Tsung proceeds to jump at Kang only to
be met with a kick to the face. Tsung then punches Kang away, and
shoots a flaming skull at him. Kang dodges it and the skull smashes
into a pillar turning it to debris. Tsung then morphs into Kano and
does his cannonball move into Kang sending him falling backward and
onto his back. Tsung jumps high into the air and lands hard on Liu
Kang’s chest. He then starts to steal his soul. With Kang’s soul
slowly being drained from his body, one of the Masked Guards jump kicks
Tsung away from Liu. The camera cuts to the doorway of the palace
where we see a couple Tarkata (one of them presumably Baraka) rushing
in. The Masked Guard turns around revealing his blade trimmed hat
meaning only one thing, Kung Lao! Lao proceeds to whip his hat at the
incoming Tarkata decapitating one of them; the hat comes back like a
boomerang and Kung Lao places it onto his head as the announcer says,
“Kung Lao” in his ever so awesome voice. Kung Lao then pummels the
other Tarkata (Baraka) only to be double-teamed by Scorpion. Soon
after, Sub-Zero comes to Lao’s aid and fights off Sub-Zero; Zero then
dodges an attack from a Masked Guard. With one of the guards dizzied,
Sub-Zero proceeds to rip out his skull with his spinal cord still
attached. He then throws the head and spinal cord into Scorpion
sending him reeling. Tsung and Liu Kang now stand face to face.
Shang Tsung quickly gets the upper hand with a few quick punches
and kicks. Liu Kang backs him off only to see Tsung morph into
Scorpion. Scorpion (Shang Tsung) shoots out his patented spear with a
loud “Get over here!” With the spear deeply embedded in Kang’s chest,
Tsung pulls Liu over to deliver a stiff uppercut sending him hard on
his back. Scorpion (Tsung) then takes off his mask to reveal a skull
and starts to breathe fire, but luckily Liu Kang dodges it. Liu takes
this opportunity to start pummeling Shang Tsung with every punch he
lands, Tsung temporarily morphs into another character including Kano
and Sonya. With Tsung reeling, Liu Kang performs his flying kick
straight into Shang’s chest sending him backward and through a pillar.
With Shang Tsung down, the camera cuts to a semi-hidden doorway. The
screen starts to shake and we hear low rumbles getting louder and
louder. That can only mean one thing, Goro! Goro lumbers into the
main hall getting attacked by everyone to no effect. Johnny Cage even
does his Shadow Kick straight into his chest, with no effect; Goro just
picks him up, pummels him and tosses Cage across the room. Shang Tsung
takes this opportunity to run to the back of the room and summon a
portal to Outworld. With his portal summoned, he jumps in followed by
Goro, Reptile, Scorpion and Kano. As the portal slowly fades, so does
the entire island. As Shang Tsung’s palace crumbles, a massive crevice
begins to develop. Liu Kang and Kung Lao eventually fall into this
crevice; they end up landing in Goro’s Lair. Thus the adventure that
is Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks begins.

[III. PlayStation 2 and Xbox Default Kontrols]
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<^>^

There are many different buttons to learn and master in Mortal
Kombat Shaolin Monks; every button on the controller is used. There
are the four basic face buttons along with combinations of these
buttons. For example in the Xbox version: if the player holds the R
Trigger and hits X with Liu Kang, he will shoot a fireball. As the
player kills enemies he accrues experience. These experience points
can be used to purchase new special moves, new kombos etc. More on the
experience system is in Section V. In the end, this section covers the
immediately available attacks and the basic controls.

Advanced Moves
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^

In addition to the basic default attacks, Shaolin Monks has a set
of advanced maneuvers that require a modifier button. Below is every
advanced maneuver and how to perform them.

-->Throws: Black Button (Xbox), R2 Button (PlayStation 2)
When approaching an enemy, tapping the Throw Button will have Liu
Kang or Kung Lao grab the enemy and throw them. Pointing the analog
stick in a certain direction will throw the enemy in that direction.
Along with throwing enemies, this button will pick up weapons on the
ground.

-->Enemy Manipulations: Hold R Trigger and tap Black Button (Xbox),
Hold R1 Button and tap R2 (PlayStation 2)
Holding this combination of buttons will grab an enemy. After
grabbing an enemy, the player can take control of them and use them as
a human shield. As the game progresses, the player can purchase
upgraded manipulation attacks.

-->Special Attacks: Hold R Trigger and tap 1 of the 3 basic attack
buttons (X,Y or B/Xbox), Hold R1 Button and tap 1 of the 3 basic attack
buttons (Square, Triangle, or Circle/PlayStation 2)
Holding the modifier button and tapping any of the three basic
attack buttons performs a Special Move. These special moves vary
depending on which character the player is currently using. Below are
both characters’ Special Move combinations. *NOTE* Each character has a
blue energy bar under their main health bar. As the player uses
special moves and attacks, the bar depletes. It recharges
automatically after a few seconds. *NOTE*

-Liu Kang:

R Trigger+X - Fireball
R Trigger+Y - Uppercut
R Trigger+B – Flying Kick

R1 Button+Square - Fireball
R1 Button+Triangle - Uppercut
R1 Button+Circle – Flying Kick

-Kung Lao:

R Trigger+X - Teleport
R Trigger+Y – Cyclone Spin
R Trigger+B – Hat Throw

R1 Button+Square - Teleport
R1 Button+Triangle – Cyclone Spin
R1 Button+Circle - Hat Throw

-->Blocks: Hold L Trigger (Xbox), Hold L2 Button (PlayStation 2)
Holding the Lock-On/Block Button will block any incoming attacks
by an enemy. If the player is hit while blocking, some of their blue
energy bar depletes; if the bar is empty, the block will not work.

-->Lock-On: Hold L Trigger (Xbox), Hold L2 Button (PlayStation 2)
Holding the Lock-On/Block button and not getting attack will focus
the characters point of view on the nearest enemy. While locked on to
an enemy, the player character will strafe around their enemy. The
Right Analog is used to change which enemy the player is locked onto.

-->Evades: Hold L Trigger and tap A (Xbox), Hold L2 Button and tap X
(PlayStation2)
Holding the Lock-On/Block Button and pressing the Jump Button will
cause the player character to evade in any direction. This is useful
for obvious incoming attacks/projectiles that are easily dodge able.

-->Multi-directional Kombat:
Multi-directional kombat is one of the things that sets Shaolin
Monks apart from other 3-d beat-em-ups. After starting a combo, the
player can use the left analog stick to change which direction his or
her attacks will go next. This is infinitely useful when the player is
surrounded by enemies and attacking them in succession is necessary.

-->Fatality Attack: White Button (Xbox), L1 Button (PlayStation 2)
When the player builds up his/her Fatality Meter, (the orb that
fills up with blood as the player connects successful kombos) he/she
can hit the Fatality Button to enter “Fatality Mode.” While in this
mode, the player is prompted to enter a series of button taps to
perform a desired Fatality. The player must have unlocked a Fatality
first in order to “use” it.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>
Weapon Kombat
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>

Weapons can be found scattered throughout many of Shaolin Monk’s
areas. Some are found lying on the ground while others are found as
part of an environment. These weapons can be used for solving certain
puzzles (e.g. a sword in one level cuts down ropes holding lava needed
to burn Tarkatan warriors) or can be used to attack enemies directly.
There are two ways to use a weapon – straight up attacking, or impaling
an enemy. The basic attacks with weapons correspond to the 3 basic
attack buttons; also impaling (Black Button Xbox, R2 Button PlayStation
2) an enemy with a weapon, will cause damage over time. The weapon
will stay imbedded in an enemy until they die. There are 3 weapon
classes as well. Two-Handed Blades, One-Handed Blades, and Dual-
Weapons. As expected Two-Handed weapons are slower, but do more
damage. The opposite can be said about One-Handed weapons. Dual-
Weapons get the best of both worlds, being fast and inflicting decent
damage.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>
[V. Experience System and Pick-Ups]
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>

--> Experience System:
Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks employs an experience system (not
unlike most RPGs these days) that rewards players for performing high
hitting combos and Fatalities. Attacking an enemy starts your combo
counter. Consecutive hits on the same foe or multiple foes builds a
number on the left side of the screen denoting how many hits have
landed. If there is too long of a break between attacks (maybe 1 or 1
and a half seconds) the combo is broken and the counter resets to 1 on
the next successful attack. Once your combo string hits 10, (and any
increment of 10 from then on in) an EXP multiplier comes into play,
multiplying the total number of EXP points you will receive by x2, x3,
x4 etc. It is not wise to save up these points until the end of the
game and then purchase every move. Spend them liberally, as there
should be no shortage of bad guys to kill; hey, having new and powerful
Special Moves never hurt anyone, right?
Accumulating these EXP points isn’t just for show as they allow
you to purchase move upgrades for your respective character (Liu Kang
or Kung Lao). Each character starts out with three “basic” Special
Moves. Gaining enough EXP points allows you to purchase additional
moves (most times they are an upgrade of previously available moves).
Purchasing these move upgrades is absolutely essential, as the baddies
featured throughout the game become progressively harder and without
new and powerful moves at your disposal, you’re all but dead. In the
“Advanced Moves, Special Moves and Weapon Kombat” section, (the one
right above this one) there are detailed descriptions of the different
types of move upgrades available to players pending they have enough
EXP points.

--> Pick-Ups
Just like in most action-adventure games, there are numerous Pick-
Ups scattered around the world you are exploring. Below is a quick
list of the Pick-Ups featured in Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.

> Small Health – These small green orbs are mostly found in smashable
objects (small lanterns, piles of skulls etc.) They restore a very
small portion of your health.

> Medium Health – These medium sized green orbs are mostly obtained
after defeating bad guys. When they die, the orbs they drop float to
you replenishing a medium amount of health. Medium Health orbs can
also be found in smashable objects scattered about, though they are
rare.

> Green Orb – “Regular” green orbs lying about are EXP orbs. They are
dropped from bosses and like medium and small healths, can be found in
smashable objects. They come in varying sizes; anywhere from 50 EXP to
500 EXP.

> Red Ying Yang Symbol – These symbols are usually placed in hard to
reach areas requiring the player to use one of their special abilities
to obtain. Once acquired, they unlock special bonus content including
Arena Art, Fatality Input images, secret characters etc.

> Blue Mortal Kombat Dragon Symbol – These little coins are found
scattered about during the early stages of the game. Running into one
summons Raiden who provides helpful hints to help you throughout your
journey.

> Gold Mortal Kombat Dragon Symbol – These babies are usually “dropped”
after a boss battle. They bestow upon the player a new ability, Wall
Jump for example, or a new Fatality move.

[VI. Special Move and Fatality List]
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^>^<^>^<^

This section will contain all the Special Moves and Fatalities for
the two main characters, Liu Kang and Kung Lao. Note that all of the
Special Moves can be upgraded to a maximum level of 5 (some can only be
upgraded to level 3). The Fatalities are unlocked as you progress
through the Adventure Mode of the game. Section X will contain the
Move and Fatality Lists for each of the secret characters. Note I am
listing these Move Lists using the Xbox buttons. If you are playing
the PS2 version here is a quick legend (The button on the left is the
Xbox button and the button after the “=” sign is the PS2 button): X =
Square, Y = Triangle, B = Circle, A = X, L = L1, R = R1, and Black =
R2.

seconds after the opening FMV sequence concludes. We see our heroes
fall into the depths of Goro’s Lair. After orienting themselves,
Raiden appears with some choice words of advice.
Raiden goes on to say that the monks won the first Mortal Kombat
tournament and that Shang Tsung is a poor loser. He warns us that we
need to exit Goro’s Lair before the island crumbles into the sea. Our
main objective is to head to the Wu Shi Academy. *NOTE* I went through
this game as Liu Kang meaning there may be some MINOR differences if
you play through with Kung Lao. *NOTE*

<^>^<^>^<^>^<
Goro’s Lair
<^>^<^>^<^<^>

> Area 1:

Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the kontrols; they
take a little getting used to. When you are ready, head to the middle
of the lair and pick up the Blue Dragon Token. Liu Kang looks around
and sees menacing eyes staring back at him through the blackness.
Moments later, many Moloch looking creatures (Oni, or demons) emerge.
Before we get a chance to fight them, Raiden says that we should learn
to use quick attacks, launching attacks, power attacks and throws.
Follow Raiden’s words of advice, and use these attacks to dispatch the
Oni that appear.
Once the initial batch of enemies is disposed of, another Blue
Dragon Token appears. Touch it and Raiden tells you to perform your
special moves. Do what he says to dispatch of the new Oni that appear.
Note that there are skulls and various bones littered throughout this
area. These can be picked up and thrown at the Oni; they don’t do much
damage, but are fun anyway.
-->*Red Ying/Yang Token*: Also of note, if you throw one of the Oni
into the skeleton hanging on the wall, a red ying/yang icon appears.
Pick it up to unlock new concept art.
Once these two Oni are killed, walk to the right side of the
screen and pick up the next Blue Dragon Token. Raiden informs you that
you are able to perform certain attacks while running. Another Oni
lumbers out for you to try your new running attacks on. Once he is
disposed of the gate on the right side of the screen opens. Follow it
into the next area.

> Area 2:

This area closely resembles the starting area. Once you enter,
gates close all around you. Grab the Blue Dragon Token to hear Raiden
talk about blocking and evading. Oni then drop down to attack. The
on-screen directions say to block an enemy attack in order to progress.
There are an infinite amount of enemies here, so do what the directions
say. After the Oni is downed, head to the right to pick up another
Blue Dragon Token.
After touching the token, Kung Lao warns the player as three Oni
attack you from all sides. Liu Kang fights them all off using Multi-
Directional kombat which allows the player to fight multiple enemies at
the same time. Three more Oni lumber through an opening. Use this new
form of kombat to kill them. Once they are dead, a gate opens on the
left side of the screen. Another Blue Dragon Token lays there for the
taking. Raiden then informs the player about air kombat. Two more Oni
appear from the depths. Dispatch them to continue.
-->*Red Ying/Yang Token*: There is a token in this room right above the
entrance. To reach this tough secret, you must launch an Oni into the
air. While they are airborne, throw them. This should give you enough
height to reach the token.
The right side of the screen contains another Blue Dragon Token.
Touch it and Raiden talks about weapon kombat. A sword then appears on
the ground. Pick it up and get used to its kontrols. Dispatch of the
Oni with it to continue. After they perish, the gate on the right side
of the screen opens. Enter it to continue.

> Area 3:

A quick cut-scene surveys the surrounding area. It turns out we
are in the bottom of The Pit! To the right are very sharp spikes that
the player should watch out for. Ahead are a couple Oni; they should
be no problem especially if you still have the sword handy from the
previous area. Also of note, if you throw an enemy near the spikes
they will land on them, killing them instantly. Realize however, that
killing an enemy this way yields no EXP.
Another cut-scene shows Johnny Cage uppercut an Oni onto the
spikes from a platform above. He points to the way off the island.
Begin by jumping on the ledge to the right. Kill the Oni and follow
the path left. Jump up these two ledges and continue right. There are
four platforms that you must jump to. The fourth one leads up to
another ledge where Johnny Cage was. A fun little side note: if you
remember from Mortal Kombat 1’s Pit stage, there was the silhouette of
a witch on her broom flying across the moon. Well in Shaolin Monks she
makes her return. Watch the moon in the background to catch a glimpse
of her.
Once you start crossing the platform Cage was on, Reptile appears.
He goes on to say that he does not serve Shang Tsung and promptly
disappears. Oni begin attacking here. They should be pretty easy as
all you have to do is throw them off the ledge onto the spikes below.
Continue along the ledge into the dark cave at then end.

> Area 4:

This room looks similar to the first few rooms of the game. It is
different in that there are blood pools coming from all four corners of
the room, leading to the center. There is also another Dragon Token
floating above the blood pool. Pick it up to obtain a Fatality.
Raiden informs us we must perform a Fatality in order to open the
gates. But first we need to build up our Fatality Meter by performing
combos. So, do just that on the three Oni that pop out. When the
meter is full hit the Fatality button to perform it.
-->*Fatality 1 (Liu Kang): Shaolin Soccer – Down, Left, Up, Right,
X/Square. Description: Liu Kang uppercuts his opponent’s head off.
With the head airborne, Kang jumps up and kicks it hard into his enemy.
The enemy proceeds to explode into blood and bone as Kang looks on.
Once this is done, the door to the left opens. Enter it to
continue
-->*Red Ying/Yang Token #1*: The first token is hidden behind a cell
door. The only way to obtain this secret is to be playing with two
players. In the following room are two switches. Each player must
stand on a switch to open the gate.
-->*Red Ying/Yang Token #2*: The second token is a bit tricky to get.
If you notice, there is a chandelier hanging in the middle of this
area. You need to launch one of the Oni into the air. While airborne,
you must perform your Throw maneuver into it. It comes crashing down
revealing more concept art. If you kill the enemies, don’t worry.
Just exit the room and come back in.

> Area 5:

Upon entering this new area, a cut-scene shows four Oni munching
on a dead one. They playfully hit each other as they try to eat as
much as they can. Eventually they notice you and lumber over to
attack. Use all the moves you have learned thus far (especially
Fatalities!) to dispatch of them pretty easily. Once they are dead,
run to the right side of the room. Raiden then informs us that we need
to throw an enemy into the broken down wall to progress. There is also
another Dragon Token over here. Pick it up to get Raiden’s message
again. After throwing an enemy into the wall, run through it to reach
the next area.
-->*Red Ying/Yang. Token*: There is another token on the far right side
of this room above the weak wall. Do the same thing as the chandelier
to reach this icon. Launch an Oni into the air, and while airborne
throw him. You should be able to reach the token that way. It is a
Fatality Input Image.

> Area 6:

This new area contains a Save Point immediately to the player’s
right. I would highly advise saving at this point. After saving,
start to head across the bridge. A cut-scene then shows to Oni fall
onto the bridge only to have two massive boulders fall onto their heads
causing the bridge to give way. Raiden then tells us to look around
before trying something new. “You never know what you might find.” By
clicking the thumbstick into panoramic view, we are shown that there is
a ledge near the entrance to this area. Head over to head and fall
down a few ledges. Once on the ground, a huge Oni breaks through the
side of the cement wall. He carries a big club and is surrounded by
Oni minions.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^
{Boss – Oni Warlord}
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^

Oni Warlord – This boss isn’t too hard as long as his minions are
not near you when you attack the Warlord. Try to kill them away from
him and the spikes. The fastest way to do that is to throw them onto
the spikes. The Warlord himself goes down pretty fast if you use a
combination of weak attacks and launchers (he won’t get launched but,
they do a fair bit of damage). Watch out for the big club he carries
around as it can cause massive damage if you are directly hit. His
swings are pretty easy to detect though. So evading them is essential.
He has a big overhead smash (which can hit his minions, if he misses
you) and a twirl around attack that has a pretty big radius. Just keep
on him, and you’ll eventually kill him.

After the boss dies, he leaves behind a Dragon Token. Pick it up
to learn the Long Jump Ability. If you haven’t guessed it already, you
need to head back up to the broken down bridge and long jump across it.
Just use the ledges on the side of the pit to get back up there. Save
again if you like, then head across the bridge. Once halfway across, a
cut-scene shows you to be surrounded by two Masked Guards. Liu Kang
Bicycle Kicks one away. Raiden then chimes in saying that they hold
the key to the only portal on the island.
These enemies are a bit tougher than the Oni in that they block a
lot. I try to just use my Fatalities against them as they are 1-hit
kills. But dodging their attacks and following up with a high hitting
juggle kombo works just as well. Once you have the key, run toward the
lightning portal. Jump into it to be transported to the Wu Shi
Academy.

A cut-scene shows a pristine chain of islands with the narrator
explaining the history of Mortal Kombat II and the rise to power of
Shao Kahn in Outworld. We stop at the Wu Shi Academy where we see
Johnny Cage, Sonya, Liu Kang and Kung Lao standing before Raiden. He
has a monk following him around carrying four Olympic style medals.
Raiden places one around Liu’s neck. Sonya also gets one for her good
duties. Johnny Cage gets one also for being a valuable ally to Raiden
and the Shaolin Order. Kung Lao receives a medal for standing up for
his family heritage.
All of a sudden Baraka orders his Tarkatan brethren to launch a
flaming spiked ball into the courtyard of the Wu Shi Academy. They
break open the front most doors and start attacking random monks.
Raiden orders Liu Kang and Kung Lao to defend the academy.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^
Wu Shi Academy
<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<^

> Area 1:

We start this new area in what appears to be forest surrounding
the academy. Next to the player is a small lantern which can be broken
for a sliver of health. Once you are ready, head down the path toward
the stream in the distance. Two Tarkatan minions ambush you from the
bushes. These baddies can be pretty tough thanks to their amazing
speed and powerful blades; they also have Baraka’s patented Blade Spark
move, which should be avoided. I recommend fighting them one at a
time. As with the Masked Guards, use Fatalities as often as possible.
Once they are downed, continue on the path toward another Tarkata.
Once he is dead, (you can use the spikes sticking out of the hills for
an easy kill) continue on down the path. You eventually end up at an
intersection with the left path leading to spikes and the right path
leading to a bridge. The left path is inaccessible as of now because
we don’t have the Fist of Ruin move yet. So head right. As you start
to cross the bridge, a cut-scene shows a huge boulder slamming into the
top of the bridge. If you are caught under it as it collapses, you
take damage; so watch out for that. Across the bridge you will witness
another cut-scene that shows a Tarkatan warrior fling a helpless monk
onto a catapult. He is then flung into oblivion.
Proceed forward and engage these Tarkatan bullies in Mortal
Kombat. If you are good at aiming your throws, you can actually toss
one of the baddies onto the same catapult as the monk. Once they are
dead, head up the slopes to the left near the fire breathing dragon
(the right side with the Masked Guard is not accessible yet). At the
top of the slopes and to the right, you will see a Tarkata standing in
front of a pile of spiked balls. The object here is to throw him into
the balls sending them below breaking the wall near the Masked Guard.
With that done, head back to the broken down wall. Near the slopes and
fire breathing statue, portal in two more Tarkatan warriors. Take them
down and proceed past the broken wall.
Around the bend, another Tarkata awaits. You need to throw this
guy up into the catapult behind him. Once that’s done he is flung into
another barricade near where you threw the other Tarkata threw the
spiked balls. Head back up that way and through the broken barricade.
Two more Tarkatan warriors portal in here. Throw one of them threw the
spiked ball barricade. Kill the other one and return to where you
broke the first barricade.
Prepare to engage in a little old-school platforming. What stands
before you is a pit of spikes with pieces of land in the middle of
them. The land pieces have fire breathing statues on them, so timing
is of the essence. Time your jumps right and land on the other side.
Jump onto the rubble and onto the bridge. Head all the way down it to
the right and exit this area.

> Area 2:

A cut-scene shows Sonya upset that many monk has been slaughtered.
She sees one limping around. Baraka then drops down and cuts him into
pieces. Sonya and Baraka engage in kombat. Sonya kicks him around.
Baraka then trips her up, slams her into a wall, picks her up and jumps
into a portal.
When you regain control of your character, drop down to the ground
below. Three Tarkatan warriors will portal in and charge. You are
lucky though, as Johnny Cage is around for the next little while to
help you out. Also, by this time, you should have enough experience
points to purchase some new abilities. To do so, hit Start and scroll
over to the Moves tab. Here, you will be able to power up specific
moves. If you are playing with Liu Kang, I recommend buying the
High/Low Fireball for 3000 points as well as the Bicycle Kick for
another 3000 points.
Anyway, back to the action. Take out the three Baraka-lites and
continue on. Ignore the two depressible plates to the left of the
screen as that puzzle can only be solved if you are playing ko-op.
Listen to Johnny Cage and follow him/run to the back of the Academy and
through the small tunnel. A short cut-scene follows with three
Tarkatan warriors ambushing you. Johnny Cage yells to protect him
while he opens the gate. Kill these baddies and the gate will open in
front of you. A cut-scene shows part of the academies wall has
collapsed. Johnny Cage then tells you to protect him as he opens the
gate.
Directly to the left of the screen is a little indentation which
you can climb up on. Follow this path along until you reach Cage, but
watch out for spiked balls being hurled at you off-screen. Another
three Tarkatas show up to make your life miserable. Kill them before
they have a chance to attack Cage. One they are defeated, Johnny tells
you to follow him to open the center gate. Run back the way you came
and drop back down into the center courtyard. Here you find Johnny
Cage trying to open the center gate with ANOTHER three Tarkatan
warriors attacking. Take them out before they can take Cage out. Some
will probably still be alive by the time cage opens the gate. Inside
the gate Cage opens (you need to run back to the start of this area to
get to it) is a sword which is used to cut the rope of cauldrons of
lava. But first pick up the Dragon Token which gives your character a
health upgrade; in other words it extends your life bar. Now that you
have gotten that, pick up the sword and head back to the main
courtyard.
More Tarkata will have warped in so help Cage fend them off. Once
they are defeated climb up the small pillar like objects near the small
pond. Once at the top, begin to slice the ropes holding the cauldrons
in place. Once sliced, a cut-scene will play showing Lao and Kang
knocking over the cauldrons causing many a Tarkata being drowned by the
scalding hot lava. A gate to a new area of the academy is now
accessible as well. Jump back down to the main courtyard and run
through the left tunnel and all the way down the path exiting this area
for now. (Cage should be following you).

> Area 4:

A cut-scene will then play showing two Tarkata surrounding Raiden
who easily dispatches them. Shang Tsung then floats down with Raiden
calling him a traitor. They begin to rush each other and an explosion
occurs. We are now back to actual gameplay.
Jump down the small hill in front of you and head to the right.
Here, you will encounter a few fire-breathing statues which you can
easily dodge. Keep following this path until you exit this area.

> Area 5:

Another short cut-scene will play showing that many parts of the
Wu Shi Academy are now engulfed in flames. It is your job to put the
fires out. When you enter this area, the gate with which you entered
through shuts. You are stuck. This area is packed with random monks
who have caught on fire. Avoid them as best as possible, as if they
run into you, you will be harmed; don’t try to attack them as that has
the same effect. Past the first wall of flames, you will see a second
wall. “Inside” this wall of fire is a lever which we need to pull. So
carefully jump over the flames and hit the Interact Button. Harkening
back to Mortal Kombat I/Deadly Alliance a “Test Your Might” mini-game
will begin. You will have to tap the A/X button as fast as you can to
raise the meter past a predetermined line. Once past the line, tap the
L/L1 Trigger to break the lever. Once that is done, a gate will rise
and a steady flow of water will flow along the upper catwalks of the
academy dousing a nearby house, causing all fire to cease.
Jump back out of the walls of flame and jump onto the roof of the
house that was doused; once there, jump onto the catwalk. Once on the
catwalk, jump up to the ledged on the left and then onto the pillar.
Once here, another “Test Your Might” mini-game will begin. Follow the
same instructions as before. Once that lever is destroyed, another
flow of water will douse a portion of the catwalk that was on fire.
Jump back down, and run along the now fire-free catwalk. Jump up the
ledge and up to another catwalk. Another lever waits here. You know
what to do :) With that lever now destroyed, yet another portion of
the catwalk is doused. Jump down to the other side of the catwalk and
since we don’t have the Fist of Ruin ability yet, jump off the ledge in
front of you. Jump up the ledge and onto the top of yet another
pillar. Break the lever and more water will put out more fire, what a
surprise. Jump down the other side of the pillar and follow the water
flow to the end. To your right, you will see the roof of a house.
Jump onto that roof and again onto the house across from it. Jump up
to the top of this area and kill the Tarkata. Break the lever (for the
last time!) and a massive gate will open to let out a strong flow of
water to finally put out all the flames on the ground.
With all those flames doused, jump back down there and a cut-scene
will play with Lao, Kang and Cage. Once that is over, run back out the
way you came in originally through the tunnel to the left.

> Area 6:

An FMV will play showing Johnny Cage (Shang Tsung morphed into
him) walking cautiously through a forest. He then sees Liu Kang and
Kung Lao fighting playfully. Lao and Kang then see Raiden (Tsung) step
out of the woods and tell them that Shang Tsung is aiding the Tarkatas

in their mission. Raiden (Tsung) tells Liu and Kung to go to Outworld
and continue their mission there.
When you regain control of your character, you will be back in the
area with the fire-breathing statues. Carefully navigate past them and
continue left until you can drop down a ledge near a wall of spikes.
Once down there, a couple Tarkatas pop out to play. Dispatch of them
and jump down the small ledge in front of you. Here, you will
encounter swinging barbed tree trunks. Carefully dodge them (they
swing pretty slow, so it shouldn’t be too hard). Once past those, you
will be faced with two Masked Guards. They should be pretty easy as
long as you stay locked onto them to block. Once they attack and you
block, follow up with a nice kombo, or pull off a Fatality. Once both
are dead, lightning will strike allowing you to run up a small hill.
At the top, to the left is a save point. I highly recommend saving at
this time. Once you have saved, jump into the menacing portal to the
right of the save point. As you are about to jump however, Raiden
appears and questions the “safety” of the portal; it was created by
Shang Tsung. He then goes on to say that he will make it safe for Lao
and Kang to enter. All three jump in; Johnny Cage follows behind them
after making sure no one is looking. Raiden parts with a few choice
words of wisdom and disappears.

<^>^<^>^<^>^
The Portal
<^>^<^>^<^<^

Once you regain control of your character, you will be faced with
two Shadow Priests (from the portal background in Mortal Kombat II).
These guys can be kind of tough as they can teleport, shoot purple
balls of energy, and strike you with lightning. As long as you block
and are quick enough to dodge their projectiles, they should go down
pretty quick. You can also (if you are playing with Liu Kang, just
Flying Kick them into the portal in which you entered killing them
instantly, but yielding no experience). With the two Shadow Priests
down, follow the path to the right. (going left here, will lead you to
a puzzle that is ko-op only. For those of you playing ko-op, go right
instead and have each of your characters stand on the pressure
sensitive plates. A ledge will begin to protrude from the column.
Jump up there to receive Johnny Cage as playable in the VS. Mode).
When the path splits, take the uppermost path and Long Jump the
gap. Once on the other side, jump up the ledge and two Demon Captains
attack. These guys are also pretty easy if you block their projectiles
and follow up with kombo juggles. Once they are dead continue on down
the path until you reach the end. A portal appears. Enter it to
arrive at the Evil Monastery.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^
Evil Monastery
<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<^

> Area 1:

A cut-scene shows Kitana beckoning us to find and attack her. Run
up the steps to the actual monastery itself and another cut-scene
occurs. Raiden appears and says that Kitana is actually an ally to us
and that we should seek her out. Lao questions this, and Raiden
explains that Outworld is not always as it once was.
When you regain control of your character, run into the main room.
Three Demon Archers will burst through the windows on the upper level.
These guys can be pretty annoying. Just try and keep an eye on them at
all times as they have a habit of shooting you with their arrows while
you are in the middle of a kombo. Once they are dispatched of, run up
the stairs and a Demon Captain drops down; another one appears shortly
thereafter. Kill them and pull the lever with another “Test Your
Might” mini-game. The lever then activates spikes that protrude from
the top of two empty cauldrons back on the first floor. Go back down
there (the room is now populated with baddies) and throw two of them
onto each of the set of spikes. With that done, a door on the upper
level opens. Dispatch of any remaining bad guys and go through the
door and up the stairs. *Golden Dragon Token* There is a Dragon Token
outside one of the upstairs windows. All one needs to do is break the
glass, by shooting it with a projectile or throwing a bad guy through
it. To obtain the koin, repeat that same process (fire a projectile at
it, fireball with Kang, hat with Lao, or throw an enemy at the koin
itself. Doing so will reveal a Red Ying/Yang symbol in that very room.
Pick it up to unlock concept art. (Thanks to Vegeto888, and the many,
many other people who E-Mailed me in regards to this secret).

> Area 2:

Another cut-scene shows with Kitana taunting us yet again. Follow
the stairs up to the top (grabbing the Dual-Weapons if you wish) where
we are faced with three Demon Archers and a Demon Handler. I recommend
killing all the archers first, as they pose the most problems with
their arrows. After they are dead, you may notice that there is no
noticeable way of leaving this room. That is where the spikes on the
far side come into play. You need to throw the Handler onto the spikes
and jump onto his body to reach the top platform, clever eh? His body
disappears pretty quickly though, but don’t worry because there is a
never ending spawn of bad guys to help you with this puzzle. Once on
the top platform, follow it up and around to another set of stairs.
Run up them to exit this area.

> Area 3:

At the top of the stairs are a Demon Archer and two new bad guys
with flaming swords. It is probably wise to do a Fatality on one of
the flaming sword guys to get him out of the way. Then concentrate on
the other two. The flaming sword guys do a fair bit of damage with
their sweeping attack and fire along the ground attack. As always,
block a lot and you should be fine. Once that initial batch of guys is
dead, a second batch appears. Once that batch is dead, run up the two
sets of stairs, along the catwalk and up another set of stairs to exit
this area.

> Area 4:

A cut-scene shows Kitana yelling at us to keep up and not to be
late at our own funeral. Once the cut-scene ends pick up the Dragon
Token; congratulations, you learned a Multality which instantly kills
multiple enemies at one time. We now need to perform one to progress
any further. With that, three Demon Captains fall from the ceiling.
Proceed to beat the living hell out of them until Raiden tells you to
hit the Fatality Button. Once that is done, hit it and follow the on-
screen button commands to do the Multality. With Liu Kang, he stands
and begins to emit many fireballs from his body instantly tearing his
enemies apart. With the Multality now learned, jump up the couple of
ledges and Long Jump across the gap. A gate closes behind you and a
Shadow Priest emerges from the ground along with two Demon Captains.
Kill these guys and the gates drop allowing you to pass. Long Jump
across the gap on the opposite side you came from. This time a Shadow
Priest and three Demon Captains emerge. For easy kills, just throw
them off the edge of this area. With all of them dead, Long Jump
across the new gap. Two Shadow Priests and two Demon Captains drop
down to have fun. Use Multality if you want, or throw them off the
edge, it doesn’t matter. Once they are dead, a gate lowers allowing
you access to a couple ledges. Watch out though, as Kitana tosses down
entire stone columns while you are trying to traverse the ledges.
Dodge them and continue on to the top. A much needed save point
awaits; so save your game and head up to the top of the monastery.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>
{Boss – Kitana}
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>

Once at the top another cut-scene occurs. Kitana reveals she is
the loyal daughter of Shao Kahn; since Liu and Lao are enemies of Shao
Kahn, they are also enemies of hers. Prepare to fight. Kitana is not
terribly difficult if you block and dodge her fan projectiles. When
she misses with a fan throw she will be a bit dazed; run up to her and
pummel her with a nice air juggle. Also, don’t get too close to her
without blocking, as she will dice you up pretty good with a powerful
fan kombo. Once she is at about half health, she jumps into a portal.
Raiden then appears saying that Kitana is under some sort of spell. We
must set her free. Liu Kang and Kung Lao then jump into the portal
after her.

We enter the portal and are immediately treated with a collapsing
bridge. In this cut-scene, Kitana tries to throw her fans at Liu
Kang/Kung Lao, but he dodges them Matrix-style. Kitana then jumps
backward and begins to be enveloped by a statues gaze. She is
imprisoned there for the time being. As she tries to get out, Jade and
Mileena warp in from another portal. Jade eventually releases Kitana
as Mileena keeps Liu Kang occupied. With Kitana freed, all three of
them gang up on us. A message from Raiden then appears telling us to
weaken Kitana to set her back up on that device to imprison her. But
be careful, as Jade and Mileena will try to free her. Once, the battle
starts, all three of these lovely ladies attack us.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<^>^<^>^
{Bosses – Mileena and Jade}
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^>^<^>^<^>^<

Focus all your attacks on Kitana, keeping a watchful eye on
Mileena and her teleport kick, as well as Jade’s fireball attack.
After a few well landed hits on Kitana, a cut-scene plays showing your
character hurl Kitana into the device once more. While she is trapped,
Mileena and Jade will attempt to free her; a little meter appears
saying “Spell Time,” and once this meter fully depletes, Kitana is
freed. You must stop them; or the battle with continue unnecessarily.
With Liu Kang, just Dragon Kick them away as they get close. That is
the easiest possible thing to do. With Kung Lao, try his Teleport Kick
or Hat Throw to back them off the contraption. Once Kitana is freed
from her spell, she faints and tells your character to kill Jade and
Mileena.
These two can be pretty tough to fight at the same time. There is
a trick however as evidenced by Raiden’s words of advice. There are
two circle areas surrounded by small spikes on the left and right sides
of the screen. If you knock one of the two Outworld Assassins into
this area, a cage springs up from the ground, trapping them. You only
have to fight one of them at a time now; while they are trapped, you
can walk up to the level outside the cage and play the “Test Your
Might” mini-game again to inflict massive damage on them as well. Take
advantage of this. Be weary of Mileena’s teleport kick, ground roll
and sai throw as they all happen very fast and can leave you vulnerable
to subsequent hits if not dodged; also be careful of that annoying
purple fireball from Jade. Once their health meters are depleted, they
become stunned. Once both are stunned, you will have to perform a
Fatality to finish both off. Hit the Fatality Button, input the
combination and watch as Liu Kang whacks Mileena in the gut with Jade’s
staff; Kang then proceeds to stab Mileena in the face with both of
Mileena’s sais.

A cut-scene plays where Kitana is introduced to Liu Kang and Kung
Lao. We learn that Shao Kahn is behind this attack. Mileena is then
brought forth for questioning. She attacks all three of them, and runs
off, not before yanking her sais out of Jade’s face however. Kitana
then runs off as well after Mileena. After the cut-scene a Dragon
Token appears. Pick it up to learn the Fist of Ruin attack; powerful
attacks now break some objects in the game world. We have also
obtained a Tournament Victory for defeating this opponent (more on the
importance of those later). Grab the experience orbs in front of you
and jump into the portal to be warped back to the Monastery. Raiden
appears to tell us that every major victory we have in Outworld weakens
Shang Tsung. With Tsung weakened, his powers to attack Earth will not
be as potent. Backtrack all the way through the Evil Monastery to the
point; save your game on the way back down to avoid any unnecessary
backtracking). As you make your way back through, you can put your
Fist of Ruin ability to work. You may have noticed big statues of
monks standing around. We can now break those with our new ability.
They are scattered throughout this area, so break them all (they are
pretty much in plain view). Once at the bottom of the steps leading up
to the Kitana battle, we see two statues guarding an ominous portal.
Break the statues and enter the portal, to be warped to none other than
The Portal!

A short cut-scene plays showing Reptile jump into a portal on the
upper level. Liu Kang and Kung Lao have a discussion as to who is
going to kill him. Kung Lao runs off, leaving Liu Kang by himself.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>
The Portal II
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>

Once you regain control of your character, two Shadow Priests and
a Demon Captain greet you. Kill these nuisances and follow the path up
and around. At the top of the little ramp, will be two Shadow Priests
guarding a portal; dispatch of them, and enter the Living Forest.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>
Living Forest
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>

> Area 1:

Once here, a cut-scene appears. Liu Kang and Kung Lao talk about
Kitana and trying to find Reptile; they then split up. Once you regain
control, follow the path downward until you reach a statue. Use your
Fist of Ruin ability (B for Xbox, Circle for PS2) to smash it and
continue. Drop down the little ledge and prepare for kombat. A Putrid
Corpse rises out of the ground to attack you. These guys are pretty
easy as their attacks are slow and they shamble around like an old man;
be careful however as they can actually vomit up blood which can hurt
you. Kill it (another one appears seconds after). Watch out for the
huge tree looming over the battlefield. It can swipe at you and cause
massive damage. You can try to throw a Corpse into it and watch the
tree smash it into the ground for extra damage. You should also throw
a Putrid Corpse into the Living Tree in the background (there are three
of these total, and it allows you to progress once enemies have been
thrown into them all). The tree will then reveal a message: “Satisfy
the forest’s cravings to pass.” Watch out for the brambles on the
right side of the screen as well. With those baddies dead, use your
Fist of Ruin ability to knock out the two statues standing in front of
a wall of brambles; this causes the brambles to fall apart allowing you
access to what was behind them.
As you cross into that new area toward the save point, 3 Putrid
Corpses rise up. If you have your Fatality Meter high enough, you can
perform a Multality; if not just kill them regularly. After they are
dead, save your game. After saving, run back out near the huge tree,
and Long Jump over the brambles to the other side. Two more Clay
Statues are hear for you to break; one has nothing, the other contains
some health. Run forward and you will see shadows running across the
ground up to you. Out pop Brothers of Shadow. These guys can be
pretty tough as they are extremely fast and attack with their serrated
blades which do some good damage. You can try throwing them into the
brambles you leaped across for extra damage. Once they are dead,
continue forward, where you will have to fight four more Brothers of
Shadow. I recommend building up your Fatality Meter to perform another
Multality on these guys, as four at a time can be a little bit
overwhelming. Watch out for the living tree and the brambles on the
far end of the screen. With these guys dead, Long Jump over the
brambles so you grab onto the ledge above them. Enter the room to exit
this area.

> Area 2:

In this new area, we are faced with two paths. We can either
continue forward or drop down a ledge or Long Jump over a gap with
water flowing beneath it. Both end up leading to the same place, so it
doesn’t matter which way you go. If you drop down the ledge, there
will be a few snake monsters down there to bite you if you get to
close. After having crossed to the other side, two Putrid Corpses
greet you. There is another Living Tree here. Throw a bad guy into
it’s mouth to reveal another message: “The forest hungers for life.”
Kill them and 2 of the Clay Soldiers guarding a doorway spring to life
along with two new Corpses. The only way to attack these Soldiers is
to use your Fist of Ruin attack three times to break their shields;
once those are broken, you can unload on them. Watch out for their
charging attack and their annoying ground pound, which sends you flying
into the air. For some easy kills, throw them off that ledge near the
water, and just throw them into the brambles to kill them instantly.
With everyone dead, enter the entrance closest to the waterfall
(guarded by two prone statues).

> Area 3:

In this new area, we need to jump across the land strips to get to
those stone statues. Don’t fall into the water or the snake head will
take a bite out of you. Once on the other side, another tree comes to
life to aggravate the hell out of everyone. Two of the four Clay
Soldiers also come to life to do kombat with you. Just break their
shields, and hit them with everything. Once they are dead, you can
break the other two statues for health if you like. With those two
dead, you will see small platforms of land sticking out of the water
making a trail of sorts. We need to traverse these small plots of land
up to the waterfall. With before, don’t fall into the water or you
will get bitten by a snake. On the last jump, you will need to Long
Jump to make it. Once to the waterfall, jump to the ledge on the left
of it. Continue making the jumps all the way to the top. At the top
enter the door where the water is flowing out of to exit this area.

> Area 4:

In this new area, continue forward into the water. At this point,
spikes shoot up on all sides and four snake heads appear. To make
matters worse, we have to deal with a couple Putrid Corpses. To solve
this “puzzle” one must throw the Putrid Corpses (there is a never
ending supply of them) into the snake heads; the snakes proceed to
throw them up into the air and catch them in their mouths. They then
lower under the water to feast on their tasty meal. With the snake
heads happy, the spikes surrounding the small pool of water will lower.
Proceed onward and save your game. Jump up the small ledge and head
left if you need some health (break the two statues there). With some
health replenished continue up the right ledge and up the path. Two
Putrid Corpses drop down. Throw one of them into the Living Trees
mouth to get the third and last message, “Reptile’s secret lies within
the trees.” Cryptic, no? Jump up the ledge on the left and into the
snake head statue’s mouth to enter Reptile’s Lair.

<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<^
Reptile’s Lair
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^

> Area 1:

Once you enter this area, a gate closes behind you. Proceed
forward and stand on the symbol in the middle of the room. Small doors
will open and Clay Soldiers will rush at you. Once they get close
enough, you must destroy them with a punch or kick. You must break
both at the same time to continue. With those two dead, stand on the
switch again and this time 4 statues will shoot out. You have to be a
little faster in attacking them to continue. With those 4 broken,
“prepare for more.” Stand on the switch a third time and 5 will shoot
out. This is a bit tougher and requires patience. When you break the
last 5, a Dragon Token appears. Pick it up to obtain the Brutality!
With this new ability we can instantly kill multiple enemies for a
short time. With that, 4 Putrid Corpses erupt from the ground. Pound
the hell out of them until Raiden prompts you to hit the Fatality
Button. Hit it, and input the correct button commands. Your character
will now be on fire and pressing the various attack buttons do
devastating damage to enemies. With those enemies dead, proceed
forward into the next area of Reptile’s Lair.

> Area 2:

In this new area, we find ourselves in a long drippy tunnel with
Clay Soldier statues everywhere; break all of these to reveal
experience orbs and health orbs. At the end of this semi-long tunnel,
is a very narrow strip of land leading up to an entrance. Carefully
navigate this landing strip to the top; the steam rising from the
depths can temporarily block your view. At the top enter the door to
exit the area.

> Area 3:

A cut-scene plays showing Liu Kang walk into a room full of holes
in the wall. The camera then pans out and we see Reptile standing on a
ledge above the doorway we entered through. Out of nowhere a gigantic
snake (think Resident Evil style big) pops out of the wall. Reptile
jumps onto its head and drops down a hole in the middle of the room.
The snake then knocks Liu Kang back and starts slithering along the
ground.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<
Boss – Snake
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^

The first part of this battle has the snake slithering all over
the ground. Don’t even try to attack it, you will just get hurt.
Instead, target the pillar the snake is slithering around on (the one
that is already damaged) and perform your Fist of Ruin attack. Three
hits should do the trick. With that broken, the snake slithers out the
main entrance and back in. It is now moving all over the place through
the various holes in the wall. The rubble from the broken pillar
allows us to jump onto the sections of ledge that surround the room.
Once on those ledges, we can now target the next pillar; it has a weak
section too. Attack it three times with your Fist of Ruin ability to
knock it out and cause another pathway to be revealed.
With the second pillar knocked out, continue running and jumping
across those ledges to get to the third pillar. Watch out for the
snake though as it slithers pretty fast in and out of the wall, hitting
you if you’re not careful. With the third pillar knocked out, we have
to find our way to the fourth. As your character is about to run up to
it, the snake breaks through the ledge. You will now have to Long Jump
the gap when the snake is out of sight in the wall. The fourth pillar
breaks, and huge pieces of stone fall onto the snake killing it. The
rubble also falls into the ground creating a large hole to which your
character falls into. At the very bottom is Reptile!

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^
Boss - Reptile
<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<^

Reptile’s move set is pretty limited as he rarely attacks you hand
to hand. He mostly relies on his special moves from past Mortal
Kombats, namely his slide move, invincibility move, and green acid spit
move. At times, he will vanish and appear at the top of a pile of
rubble. You cannot hit him while he is up there; he begins to shoots
fireballs at you that do moderate damage if not dodged. With Reptile
at about half health, he turns completely invisible. If you hit him,
he will become visible again for a short time. This can get pretty
tough. His head sometimes shows through to give you an idea of where
he is.  His fireballs also are not invisible, so watch out for those;
they can do massive damage if he hits you successfully more than once
in a row. With Reptile’s health depleted completely, the Fatality
Button will appear. Hit it and perform the button inputs.
Liu Kang (it’s different for Lao) will punch Reptile hard in the
face sending him reeling. Reptile will come back with a punch that Liu
Kang dodges. Kang then puts Reptile over his knee and proceeds to rip
at his lover jaw eventually dislodging it. Reptile falls to the ground
almost dead. With no mercy, Kang punches the hell out of Reptile and
proceeds to squeeze his throat killing him by asphyxiation. Reptile
leaves behind a Dragon Token. Pick it up to gain the Wall Climb
ability. Raiden tells us to use it to climb out of Reptile’s Lair. We
have also obtained another Tournament Victory. Before you leave, pick
up the many experience orbs littered about.
With all the experience collected, find the part of the dead snake
closest to the wall. Hit it with the Fist of Ruin to break it apart,
leaving a way to climb up the wall. Jump onto the wall and climb to
the top of the sewer; exit this area afterward. A cut-scene plays with
Raiden telling us that killing Reptile was “very good.” When you
regain control, run out of the long tunnel and exit Reptile’s Lair.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^>^
Living Forest II
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^

Back in the Living Forest, make your way back to the entrance. On
your way there, another cut-scene plays. Raiden appears again and
questions Kung Lao and calls him a “liability to the tournament.”
Raiden trusts Liu Kang to fix the corruption of this realm. Continuing
on your way to the entrance yet another cut-scene shows with Raiden
saying that the Soul Tombs are the source of Shang Tsung’s power and
that his ancestor’s will guide him. When you finally reach the save
point (near the start of the Living Forest) save your game, and exit to
The Portal.

<^>^<^>^<^>^>^<^
The Portal III
<^>^<^>^<^>^>^<^

Once you enter the Portal for the third time, Raiden appears and
prefaces the Soul Tombs saying that when someone perishes, their soul
is brought to the tombs and “given” to Shang Tsung to feed his powers.
Raiden asks the two of you to enter the Tombs and rid it of all souls
to weaken Shang Tsung as much as possible.
Once play resumes, take out the two Shadow Priests (a Flying Kick
to the midsection off the ledge and into oblivion seems to work best).
With those two dead, head down the rampway to an area with two Shadow
Priests and another baddie. Kill them if you want, but it is not
necessary. In the upper right of this area is a climbable wall (the
Wall Climb finally being put to use). Walk up to the wall and jump
into it. Liu, or Kung should automatically grab hold and start
climbing. As you are climbing, green skulls appear on either side of
the wall and zoom at you. If they make contact, you fall a little bit.
They are pretty easy to dodge though. Once you make it to the top,
take care of the two Soul Priests and enter the portal to the Soul
Tombs.

<^>^<^>^<^>^
Soul Tombs
<^>^<^>^<^>^

> Area 1:

Once transported in, run along the bridge and up into the
cathedral looking thing with the Mortal Kombat Dragon Symbol adorning
the middle of it. Once inside, save your game if you wish. This first
room presents you with two possible rooms to enter: red or green. We
have to eventually complete both rooms, but I recommend clearing the
red rooms first. Clearing out the Tarkatan warriors is not necessary
and they can easily be bypassed if you so choose.

> Area 2:

Once inside the first red room, kill the 4 Tarkatan warriors and
the 2 Putrid Corpses. The spike wall death traps get rid of them
rather easily. After the room is cleared head through the doorway full
of spider webs.

> Area 3:

This room has two floors. The bottom floor is inhabited by three
Tarkata. You don’t have to kill them if you don’t want to. Once the
room is cleared (or not) head up the far wall (using the Wall Climb
ability of course). At the top is a breakable statue to the right.
Use the Fist of Ruin to break it and follow the path it blocked. Jump
across the broken away walkway, and then jump onto the tiny ledge
sticking out beyond that. One more jump lands you on a ledge
containing a red Ying Yang symbol unlocked Baraka in the VS. Mode.
After acquiring that, head back the other way and through the door
(near where the Ying Yang was).

> Area 4:

We are now outside on a thin walkway with rows upon rows of spikes
protruding and retreating real fast. Watch for their pattern and run
and jump to avoid them. Once you get to the safe platform (with a
Mortal Kombat Dragon Symbol on it), interact with the “Test Your Might”
lever (make sure the Masked Guard is standing right underneath the
spike wall when you hit the release button; he needs to be squashed by
the wall in order for you to be able to proceed. With that lever taken
care of, a spiked wall falls down back across the spiked walkway
squishing the guard. Head back over there and interact with another
“Test Your Might” lever (the same thing applies here with the Masked
Guard). Once complete, this lever drops another spiked wall and allows
you access to another part of the spiked walkway. Once again, study
the pattern of the spikes and once ready, run and jump across this
platform. At the end of this much longer spiked walkway, is one last
“Test Your Might” lever. Again, time it to smash the guard patrolling
that area of the walkway.
Once the final spiked wall is brought down, run all the way back
over to it and proceed down that spiked walkway. At the end is a door,
enter it.

> Area 5:

This room contains around 10-12 Tarkata. A Multality should do
the trick here. With all of them dead, enter the door at the far end
of the hallway.

> Area 6:

The only thing of note in this room is the Gold Mortal Kombat
Dragon Symbol floating just outside the walkway and the “Test Your
Might” challenge on the left side of the room. Knock an enemy through
the barricade to reveal it. Once revealed, shoot it with a fireball,
or throw your hat at it. A Fatality input image is revealed. After
the baddies are dead and the token is collected, head over to the gold
throne type thing on the left side of the room. Begin the “Test Your
Might” mini-game and tap the jump button as fast as possible to break
it and open a red door. With that collected start backtracking to the
room where you entered the spider webby doorway. Once there, enter the
door at the far end of the room (to the left of the spider webby door).

> Area 7:

Once inside this room, kill the 3 Tarkatan warriors and the Shadow
Priest. Once again, a Multality does the trick here. Watch out for
the fire that erupts from the ground though. Once they are all
defeated (make sure you have a full health bar) enter the red door on
the left side of the room.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<
Boss – Orochi Hellbeast
<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<^<^>^<^>^<

This boss can be pretty tough if you don’t know his secret. If
you’ve been paying attention the loading screen hints, you would know
that if the Hellbeast devours one of his own, he regains energy. The
trick to defeating him is to take out the smaller bad guys in this room
so he can’t regain health. Once they are gone, unload combo after
combo on him until he is dead. Note that once the initial three
Tarkatan warriors are either killed by you or eaten by the boss, they
no more respawn. So try and take them out as fast as possible. Also,
avoid getting up real close to the Hellbeast as he has a habit of
igniting himself on fire, causing you be thrown back suffering massive
damage. When he rears back and breathes fire, unload on him with
special moves and combos. With the Orochi Hellbeast slain, exit the
room from which you entered and make your way back to the very first
room of the Soul Tombs.
Once back here, save your game and take out the Tarkatas scurrying
about. With your game saved and the Tarkatas destroyed, enter the
green door on the right.

> Area 8:

This first room comes equipped with around 8 Tarkatan warriors.
You have to kill all four in order for the Ying Yang door to open. So
get to it. Once they are all dead, head through the newly opened door.

> Area 9:

This long room contains Tarkatan warriors and putrid corpses. The
left side of the room leads to a door that is being held by putrid
corpses, but it can’t be opened yet. So head all the way right and out
that door. You will find yourself outside once again.

> Area 10:

This outdoor portion can be a little tough. For starters, you
have to be weary of all the boulder being hurled at you and green
skulls flying toward you. Secondly, the Shadow Priests on the sides of
the platforms also try to attack. If you fall down to the spikes,
don’t worry, you just suffer some damage and you can jump back onto the
small platforms to get back onto the bigger ones. Just be quick and
smart about crossing this section of the level. Once across to the
other side, enter the doorway.

> Area 11:

This area contains a giant fan spinning overhead and one poor
Tarkatan warrior that can be thrown up into the fan cutting him to
pieces. Once he is dead, head up the stairway.

> Area 12:

Upon entering this room, a mini cut-scene plays showing a little
ceiling of spikes. This should give you the hint. You have to throw
one of the 4 Tarkatas into those spikes. Once done, a little platform
lowers. Hop onto this platform and jump up to the ledge. Run around
the left side of the walkway and go the door.

> Area 13:

We are now in a room above the original room with the fan. Run
down the walkway and up the little stairway overlooking the fan. Jump
onto the platform suspended above the fan. 4 Tarkatas drop down.
Begin throwing them over the platform and onto the fan’s spinning
blades. Once you throw 4 of them into the blades they become dislodged
and fly into the sides of the wall (lo and behold, they make a little
bridge leading up to another part of this area). Climb the dislodged
fan blades and get to the top of this area. After climbing the fan
blades, run up the little walkway and stand on the platform. A short
cut-scene plays showing a statue drop a sword it was holding.
Backtrack to the room with the two putrid corpses tied up. Once back
in that room, run to the left side and pick up the massive sword that
was dropped. Use it to dismantle the Tarkatas and the putrid corpse
that drop down. With them dead, use the sword to cut the two putrid
corpses tied to the wall in half. With that done, the door they were
“guarding” opens. Enter it.

> Area 14:

Upon entering, Lao and Liu see Shang Tsung standing in front of
some green portal. He then transforms himself into younger Shang Tsung
(think Mortal Kombat II). He proceeds to beat the hell out of Kung Lao
and Liu Kang. With both of them down, Tsung berates them and instructs
two Shadow Priests to “kill then.” Lao helps Liu up and they prepare
to fight.
Once you regain control, kill the two Shadow Priests and one
Tarkata. With them dead, walk up to the Soul Tombs and hit it with the
Fist of Ruin 5 times. It proceeds to explode. With the Soul Tombs all
but “defeated” return to the main room of this level. Upon entering,
we see a beam of light shining from one end of the room to the other.
The light enters an “eye” of sorts on one wall. The wall then begins
to fade away brick by brick revealing a passageway. Enter the walkway
hidden behind the bricks.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>
Boss – Baraka
<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<

Upon entering this hidden room, a cut-scene plays showing Baraka
impaling a monk with his blades. Baraka then impales the monk in the
face and tosses his body at Liu Kang. The monk’s soul gets sucked up
into a pillar on Liu’s side of the room. Baraka is a pain in the ass
to fight. The first part of this fight is pretty much a normal battle.
Baraka can’t be comboed very heavily thanks to his combo breakers, so I
recommend staying farther back and unleashing your projectiles at him.
Stay as far away as possible. Once he hits about half health, the
second part of this battle occurs.
Once Baraka is beaten up a bit, he flees to the other side of
this room (across the little pit). He proceeds to grab a monk, touch
him to a raging fire near him and hurl the flaming monk at your
character. Baraka does this twice; after he hurls the second one over,
Baraka jumps back over the chasm fore more combat. Once you beat him
up a little more a cut-scene plays showing your character knock Baraka
down the little pit. He jumps back up and your character jump kicks
him down the pit again. This time we see him stick his blade into the
wall to save himself from ultimate doom. He proceeds to climb back out
of the pit. He begins running back and forth hiding behind obstacles
obstructing him from your view. All the while he is shooting blade
sparks at you. The only way to hit him at this point is to fire your
own projectiles at him. After about 10 successful projectile hits on
Baraka, the final stage of this battle begins.
Baraka proceeds to jump back over the little pit and as he does,
he swipes one of his blades at Liu Kang. Kang ducks it and a little
receptacle containing a sword falls out. With Baraka dazed after his
miss, Liu knocks Baraka back across the room making him hit another
receptacle holding another sword that drops to the ground. Pick one of
these swords up and attack Baraka with all you’ve got. Eventually, the
two of you will clash swords. When this happens a “Test Your Might”
mini-game occurs. Hit the jump button as fast as possible and once
done, Baraka becomes dazed. When he is in this state, impale him with
the sword you are holding. Do this a second time with the other sword
to seal his fate for good.
Once both swords are impaled, (one in Baraka’s midsection, the
other through his head) a Fatality sequence occurs. The green skulls
from earlier in the game come flying out. They levitate Baraka and fly
toward him smashing him into the walls and ceiling of the Soul Tombs.
After a couple seconds of that, they levitate Baraka over the pit and
about 10 of them come rushing after him, causing him to explode into
blood and body parts.

After this scene, another scene plays with Liu Kang and Kung Lao.
They claim they have done just as Raiden wanted. Raiden responds with,
“I see.” Holograms of Lao and Liu appear and begin fighting across the
chasm. Liu says Lao failed the tournament and claims he should take
his place as his servant. Liu punches Lao down and Lao uppercuts Liu.
Lao says he fights for honor. The real Liu claims that is not really
him (Lao). Lao wonders what happened with their ancestors. Liu
doesn’t know, but he thinks that Raiden wanted them to see this. Liu
says they are part of an ancient mystery and “that is all.” The
floating Dragon Token is not accessible to us yet so enter the portal
to be transported back to the Wu Shi Academy.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^><^>^
Wu Shi Academy II
<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<^<^>

Once you portal back to the Wu Shi Academy for the second time,
head to the area of the level with the rushing water (remember you had
to pull levers with the “Test Your Might” mini-game in order to
extinguish the fires)? To get there, just jump on top of one of the
houses in the area you portal in from. On top of the house, jump up to
the flowing water. Once in that area, Tarkatan warriors will attack.
You can avoid them if you like, but taking them out will make your life
much easier. Continue along the water path and hit the statue guarding
the way with the Fist of Ruin. Drop down into the next area and nab
the kombat token to obtain the Wall Run ability. Use your new ability
to navigate your way back up to the water. From there, head back to
the Soul Tombs through the portal you entered from in the first place
for a new move.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>
Soul Tombs II
<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<

Back in the chamber where you defeated Baraka, wall run up the
wall to your left to obtain the Wall Jump ability. Now you can exit
the Soul Tombs; head back to the Wu Shi Academy. From there, head all
the way back to the Portal.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>
The Portal IV
<^>^<^>^<^<^>^<

Once back in the Portal for the fourth time, head back down near
where you climbed up the wall to enter the Soul Tombs. Except this
time run to the left of the screen and exit out the portal that
appears.
Once you arrive on the other side, a cut-scene with Kitana and
Mileena. Says that everyone Shao Kahn touches becomes like her
(Mileena). Liu and Lao rush to help her up after Mileena knocks her
down. She says that Mileena fled to the Wasteland. She is a clone of
Kitana, and if Mileena dies, Kitana’s soul will become Shao Kahn’s.
Liu says they have to stop Mileena before that happens. When you
regain control, ignore the Shadow Priests that appear and run along the
pathway. Head to the right portion of this area and Wall Climb/Wall
Run up this wall. At the top, head left and Wall Climb/Wall Run up to
the top of this ledge. Head right, and kill the two Shadow Priests and
Tarkatan warrior and proceed into the portal after the walkway appears.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<
The Wastelands
<^>^<^>^<^<^<>^<

> Area 1:

Once here, run down the pathway until you come to a large open
area with a lava pit in the middle. Once you step foot into this area,
4 or 5 Red and Black Dragon Mercenaries spawn in for you to kill. So
pick up the giant sword to the right and go to work. These guys seem
to be able to take more damage than previous foes, but the sword you
have should make them a little easier. Watch out for the Red Dragon
grenades and the Black Dragon knife lunge attacks as they both do a
pretty good amount of damage. If you want to have a little fun with
these guys, just stand back and they start attacking each other! It
will take awhile for them to kill each other, but is humorous
nonetheless. Also of note, watch out for the small “patches” fire
about as running into it will damage you. Also, stay out of the lava
pit, as standing in it will gradually decrease your health. One last
thing, if you sword “runs out”, there is another one in front of the
fire pit. With all of the mercenaries dead, save your game if you
wish, and Wall Climb up the wall to the right of the huge gate (make
sure you have one of the swords from the earlier fight with you).
At the top, head right. Once you see the little alcove (right
before the ledge drops off) run into it to receive a Fatality Input
Image. With that token collected, jump across the gap and Wall
Run/Wall Jump up into another little area with a huge statue. Head
right, and hack away at the pile of bodies blocking your way. Enter
the darkened tunnel.

> Area 2:

Here you will be faced with Mercenaries tossing massive boulders at
you. Just dodge them and you will find a ladder to your right. Climb
it and more Mercenaries will be hurling boulders at you. Once past
these, you will find a ladder to your right. Climb up this one and you
will be faced with your last boulder dodging exercise. Dodge these and
climb the ladder on the left. At the top a cut-scene will play showing
Kung Lao cutting down a mysterious man form a cage about two pits of
fire. They ask for his help to kill Shang Tsung as the man retrieves
two hookswords from the ground. He denies their help and throws his
hookswords to the ground. Lao says he loves doing something for
nothing. Raiden then appears and says they are there to secure freedom
for Earthrealm and this realm as well. Once you regain control of your
character, pick up all the EXP orbs littered about and then head right
to pick up the red Ying Yang symbol for another Fatality Input Image.
Run back to the tunnel that led to this place (dodging the boulders on
the way down of course).

> Area 3:

Once back in this area, proceed to cross the bridge. A Black and
Red Dragon Mercenary appear, but throwing them over the bridge gets
them out of your hair quickly. Once on the other side of the bridge,
head all the way left and pick up a Health Upgrade. With your sword
still in hand, hack at the bodies blocking the path to your right.
Head through the tunnel.

> Area 4:

Upon entering a cut-scene plays showing samurais coming alive
piece by piece. Raiden is then shown hovering above. He proceeds to
throw his Lightning Staff into a pool of blood. That should clue you
as to what to do. The pool becomes electrified once the staff begins
to shoot off lightning, so throw the samurai into the electrified pool
of blood to kill them. After killing 10-12 of them in this way, head
over to the “Test Your Might” mini-game. Initiate it and complete it.
This causes the gate you entered to release. Head out the gate for a
surprise.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<^
{Boss – Sub-Zero}
<^>^<^>^<^<^<>^<^

A small cut-scene plays showing a gate falling down. Head through
that gate (the gate down near the pit of lava) and through the darkly
lit cave. Once on the other side, Liu Kang and Kung Lao are stopped
dead in their tracks by walls of ice that appear all around them. Lao
then uses his hat in a 360-degree motion cutting all the ice around
them down. Sub-Zero says it doesn’t matter who they are, he’s “learned
to call everyone enemy. Zero isn’t hard, you just have to constantly
dodge/jump over his freeze ability. He is pretty quick with his slide
move and uppercut, so be wary of those. Use projectiles (pending
you’ve upgraded them, which you should have) and he should go down
relatively easily. After he shoots an ice freeze, he may become dazed
temporarily, take this opportunity to unload a heavy combo on him.
At about quarter health, a cut-scene plays showing Kung Lao
cutting Sub-Zero’s face. With him dazed, Lao throws his hat at him and
Liu kicks the hat away in mid-air. The Sub-Zero that died earlier is
the brother of this Sub-Zero. Kung Lao claims they came to the
Wastelands to rescue “his girlfriend.” Sub-Zero knows of Goro and says
he cannot be beaten in combat. Kitana shows no chance against him.
Zero says Lao could have killed him but didn’t. He knows better now.
He says they must cross the Sea of Blood to seek out Kitana. They must
find an old boat that Sub-Zero will repair in order to find and face
Goro. Sub-Zero they freezes a submerged boat and all three hop aboard.

> Area 5:

Once you regain control, the boat will sail to your destination. All
is not well though as skeletons emerge from the blood and attack you.
Throw or kick them off the edges so as to not “slow the boat down.”
Sub-Zero helps in this fight making it a little easier. Watch out for
the fire breathing statues on the left and right sides of the screen as
the battles wear on. Once the boat ride from hell is over, jump off
the boat and follow Sub-Zero up the path as he begins to freeze a huge
door blocking your path. With it frozen, Zero says, “I will need your
strength to break the door.” Use the Fist of Ruin attack to break away
the bottom half of the door. Head inside.

> Area 6:

A short cut-scene displays with Sub-Zero claiming the exit must be
up top and that you guys have to get there somehow. The camera then
pans out revealing two huge spinning blade wheels. The trick here is
to throw enemies onto this wheel of blades causing the bodies to become
dismembered; their blood then begins to flow and pool in a little vat.
After throwing 5 or so enemies into the wheel, Sub-Zero asks you to
defend him while he freezes the overflowing blood. Do just that and
after a couple seconds, he tells you to Wall Climb up the blood because
Goro is just ahead. Once at the top of this area, Long Jump over the
spiked wheel to obtain the red Ying Yang symbol unlocking Arena Art.

> Area 7:

In this area head down the stairs to find yourself being attacked
by two Black Dragon Mercenaries. Sub-Zero asks you to defend him while
he freezes the wall allowing you to Wall Run across.. Once again, do
just that; it may be easier to just throw the enemies into the blazing
fire or off the ledge. Once the ice is present Wall Run across to the
other side. If you threw the Black Dragon Mercenaries in the pit
before the ice wall was made and you fall into it while Wall Running
they will be down there, so watch out. Also, Sub-Zero can be knocked
down there while you are attempting to run across. If this happens he
asks you to come down there and help him kill the Mercenaries. You
have to do this in order for the cut-scene with Scorpion to play. Once
across Scorpion pops out of the flames and jump kicks Zero. He then
opens a portal and jumps into it. Sub-Zero says he killed his brother
and claims Lao and Kang can’t help him. He tells them to go and jumps
in to the portal. Once you regain control, hit the save point if you
wish and head through the doorway.

<^>^<^>^<^>^>
{Boss – Goro}
<^>^<^>^<^<^<

Once inside a cut-scene plays showing Goro Liu Kang and Kung Lao

cautiously entering the area. We then hear Goro asking why they
entered his lair. He proceeds to jump through a walkway and the battle
is on. Goro isn’t too tough as long as you dodge his head first
charges and quick (although short range) fireballs. Goro can also jump
across the area and cause shockwaves to emanate out from under him when
he lands. Just Long Jump away when he does this; jumping also dodges
that attack. If you get too close, Goro can grab you and a “Test Your
Might” begins. The timer is set to 6 seconds instead of 8 or 9, so it
is pretty much impossible to beat. When the timer runs down, he
proceeds to pummel you mercilessly and throw you to the ground taking
off a massive amount of health. Stay as far away as possible. Also,
he cannot block, so hit him with everything you have as fast as you
can. About halfway through the battle, Goro rips a pillar out of the
ground and swings it around; watch out for the shockwaves that emanate
out from it. If you get too close to Goro when he is wielding the
pillar, he can grab you, set the pillar on the ground and smash your
face into it, causing a good bit of damage. Just stay back and pelt
him.
Once he is dead, enter U, U, D, L, Attack to Fatality him. Once
the animation starts, Johnny Cage jumps in and stops you. He proceeds
to Shadow Kick Goro in the chest causing his foot to go straight
through. Liu Kang claims he should have let him kill Goro. Cage and
Lao are like “what?” Liu says he (Lao) shouldn’t turn his back on him
and then punches him down. Before he can do anything else, Cage
punches him (Liu) revealing that Liu Kang was Shang Tsung impersonating
Kang. The real Liu runs out and Cage explains Shang can morph into
anyone he wants. Lao says they still have to rescue Kitana. Cage says
“A girl, is she hot?” Raiden then morphs in and claims he has
something else for Cage to do. You regain you character at this point.
Pick up the Dragon Token in the middle of the arena to obtain the
Double Jump ability. Gather all the EXP orbs around the area and run
up the steps and out the door. Raiden appears and claims Shang Tsung’s
defeat is close. He says the “key” to his defeat is in the Netherrealm
and opens up a portal to the Deadpool. Before heading over there,
though, save your game.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>
The Deadpool
<^>^<^>^<^<^<>

> Area 1:

Once inside the Deadpool, you will notice hooks hanging from the
ceiling (just like in Mortal Kombat II’s Deadpool). Throw or Uppercut
the Putrid Corpses onto these hooks (five of them should do it) and
pick up the Golden Koin floating near the sealed gate. Picking it up
affords you with the Swing ability. The gate proceeds to open up. Head
through and practice your Swing ability on these poles. Just jump
toward them and keep pressing the jump button to eventually land in
front of a portal leading to the Portal; jump in.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>
The Portal V
<^>^<^>^<^<^<>

Once back inside the Portal, drop down a couple ledges until you
reach the area with the stone slab denoting how many Tournament
Victories you have. To the left of this slab are poles sticking out of
the wall. Use the Swing ability to climb to the top of this area.
Once at the top, kill the two Shadow Priests and enter the portal to
the Netherrealm.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<
Netherrealm
<^>^<^>^<^<^<

A cut-scene occurs with Kung Lao asking Raiden why pure souls like
Liu and Lao can enter the Netherrealm. Raiden says that with all the
guys they’ve killed, their souls have become tainted allowing them
“access” to the Netherrealm.

> Area 1:

When you regain control, use the save statue if you like.
Proceed through the cool-looking archway and head down the stairs. If
you stand at the top of the stairs and Long Jump, you will land on the
archway containing a red Ying Yang symbol that unlocks new Arena Art.
Drop down from the archway and some Bloody Skeletons will greet you.
You don’t have to kill them if you don’t want. If you choose not to,
run down more stairs and a cut-scene will play showing Noob Saibot and
Sub-Zero dueling. Sub-Zero freezes Saibot and he (Noob) proceeds to
run away. Lao asks what happened to Scorpion. Zero claims Scorpion is
still here. Lao speculates that this Zero is Shang impersonating him.
Sub-Zero assures him it is really him. Sub-Zero then claims that he
thinks Noob Saibot is his brother. Zero tells them to find Scorpion to
cripple Shang Tsung. He says the Netherrealm is infinite, but Scorpion
will find them as long as they are there.
Once you regain control head up and around the path. At the end
of it, Scorpion appears and reappears. He then punches your character
in the face denoting combat!

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<^
{Boss – Scorpion}
<^>^<^>^<^<^<>^<^

The first of this three-part encounter is much like fighting a
regular bad guy. Keep an eye out for his Spear and Teleport Punch, as
those are his deadliest moves. Use projectiles and combos to move onto
the next portion of this fight. You cannot knock him into the air for
air combos, so stray away from that. Once a third of his life has been
knocked away, your character knocks Scorpion off a ledge seemingly into
lava. At the last second he spears a rock and swings himself to safety
onto a rock. Proceed after him running and jumping over pits of lava.
On the last ledge watch out as the ground erupts in flames. You don’t
die if you miss a ledge but your health gradually decreases the longer
you are in the lava. Jump out as soon as possible. Run down some
stairs and the fight resumes.
The second part of this fight is rather awkward. The camera
switches to a behind the back view of Scorpion who begins shooting fire
up from the ground at you (the area of the ground that is about to
erupt in flames glows yellow beforehand so it gives you time to dodge).
Dodge these attacks and when he shoots his Spear into the ground run up
to it and being the “Test Your Might” mini-game. Once successful, you
will pull Scorpion off the ledge to you. It is now time to attack him
mercilessly. He has new moves though; his Mortal Kombat 4 Fire Breathe
and Mortal Kombat II Leg Sweep. The Fire Breathe is pretty easy to
dodge as it only covers a small amount of area; just stay away from him
in order to not have to deal with the Leg Sweep. If you get too close,
Scorpion can take out his Spear and start slicing you with it, so watch
out for that too. After beating him up a bit, he returns to his rock.
Repeat the above steps to bring him back to you for another beating.
Once his life hits empty, hit U, D, T, T, and the Attack button to
Fatality him. Your character wraps the Spear rope around his neck and
then stabs him in the head with the Spear itself. Scorpion is then
tossed into the flaming lava.
You thought it was over didn’t you? Well, guess what? It isn’t!
This last part of the battle is pretty tough. Scorpion proceeds to
emerge from the flames on fire. His special moves also do much more
damage. Watch out as he swings his Spear around violently and can whip
it out at you instantly. He also gains his Deadly Alliance/Deception
move where he erupts fire from the ground. Watch out for that as it is
denoted with a yellow glow just like before. Once his health is empty,
Fatality him with: D, U, L, L, Kick. The animation starts off with
Scorpion starting to be pulled down into the lava by skeletons that
have emerged from the lava. He manages to knock them off. Liu then
kicks Scorpion into the lava, but he spears a stalactite on the ceiling
and catches himself. Liu Kang then kicks a skeleton into the air and
kicks it straight at Scorpion hanging from the stalactite. Scorpion
proceeds to fall into the lava with his hand forming a “thumbs up” as
it falls into the lava (paying homage to Terminator 2 of course). Once
you regain control pick up the Dragon Token in the middle of the
platform to obtain another Tournament Victory. Gather the EXP orbs and
head back up the to entrance to the Netherrealm collecting more EXP
orbs on the way. Save your game before exiting to the Portal.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^
The Portal VI
<^>^<^>^<^<^<>^

A short cut-scene plays with Raiden claiming they (Liu Kang and Kung
Lao) have everything they need to defeat Tsung. He says there is a
portal “there.” He also claims Kung Lao is different and strange. Liu
says that he thinks Lao is Shang Tsung in disguise. Raiden says there
is a door down there leading to the Foundry. After that cut-scene,
head down and through the wall denoting how many tournament victories
you’ve accumulated thus far. It is not necessary to kill the Shadow
Priests in this area, but you are more than welcome to put them out of
their misery if you feel the need. Head through the door to the
Foundry.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<
The Foundry
<^>^<^>^<^<^<

> Area 1:

Here it is, the last area of the entire game. Once you enter, go
right down the cave and save your game if you wish. After you save (or
don’t save) head up the rampway to the left; kill the Oni that run in
if you wish. At the top of the rampway, a cut-scene plays showing Jax
pointing a gun at Kung Lao. Jax says that Raiden has been guiding him
through the Foundry to find Sonya Blade. Jax claims that Raiden has
been with him the entire time (a few weeks perhaps). Does this mean
that the Raiden guiding you is Shang Tsung in disguise? After the cut-
scene, head left. In this hallway, you will see huge boulders raising
and crashing to the ground. Carefully maneuver your way past them.
Once at the end of this tunnel, pull the lever “Test Your Might” style
to raise one set of bars blocking an entranceway.
With the lever pulled, head back the way you came. In the main
room, take the right path and, while dodging the flames erupting from
the ground, interact with another lever. After pulling this one with
yet another “Test Your Might” mini-game, the last set of bars releases
from the blocked passageway on the second floor. Next, head through
the door to the left of the Save Point. As you make your way through
the tunnel, two Demon Archers burst through the walls to the left and
right of you. Dispatch them and run through the door that opens before
you.

> Area 2:

In this next area, jump onto the bricks floating in the lava until
you reach an open doorway. Head through this door.

> Area 3:

Here, throw three Demon Archers onto the towering flames behind
you. Once that is done, a large vat will fill with lava and float away
opening a door in the room you’re currently in. Go through that door.

> Area 4:

In this room, another Orochi Hellbeast awaits with two Demon
Guards. The same tactics as before apply here. Try to take out the
smaller enemies first (a Multality works well here) so the Hellbeast
can’t regenerate health by consuming his own. The only thing that
sucks is that the Demon Guards keep respawning making this fight MUCH
tougher than it should be. Anyway, stay back and pelt it with
projectiles. Watch out for his flame breath though. Once he is dead,
you have to knock the Demon Guards onto the two hooks hanging from the
ceiling to raise a pillar in the NE section of the room. Wall Climb
the pillar and prepare for more Demon Guards. As a side note, use the
Fist of Ruin move on the cracked wall to reveal a Gold Mortal Kombat
Dragon Symbol. Shoot it with a projectile to unlock a new Movie. On
the right side of this second floor, Long Jump over the lava pit and
use the lever with a “Test Your Might” mini-game to pour lava into some
sort of platter. Once that is done, go to the opposite side and Wall
Run across the lava to the top of that area. Go through the now open
door.

> Area 5:

A cut-scene shows a cast being hit open by two massive hammers to
reveal a gold battleaxe (so that is what we’ve been doing with all that
lava!). There are three Demon Guards in this room, so take them out
(again, a Multality works well here). With them dead, head through the
door on the left.

> Area 6:

In here, a cut-scene plays showing the axe floating down a
corridor, while a door on the left side of the screen opens. Run down
the stairs, jump over the lava and Wall Climb the ladderesque wall.
Once up top, head through the door that was just opened.

> Area 7:

Once inside interact with the gold thing sitting in front of the
pool of water. “Test Your Might” it to have your battleaxe cooled off
in the water and then dropped in the middle of the room. Retrieve it
and prepare to stave off a Demon Archer, Captain and Guard. With them
dead, head back to the main room of the Foundry. Once there climb the
slope again and run right. Here, destroy the two magic stones with
your battleaxe (you need to use a special move with the battleaxe to
break them. On Xbox hold R, and push X, on PS2, hold R1 and push X).
Once they are destroyed, 2 Demon Handlers, a Demon Archer and 2 Oni
drop down. Kill all of them and the massive door in the background
will open. Enter it.

> Area 8:

You drop down into what appears to be a volcano. Anyway, head up
the loooooong staircase and continue running down the long corridor. A
cut-scene eventually plays with Kung Lao saying that he can’t trust
Raiden. Liu thinks Lao is Tsung and jump kicks him down. Lao nips up
and Raiden teleports in between them. Raiden says that he has been
tricking them into feeding him soul after soul. Raiden is then struck
by a fireball from Shao Kahn sending him backward. Kahn says that they
have to follow him if they want to kill Shang Tsung. Once you regain
control, head right and save your game. Interact with Kitana and
Johnny Cage in the cells if you wish. With your game saved head down
and out the long tunnel.
Another cut-scene shows Lao and Liu walking out into a gladiator
arena. Shao Kahn then says that all who enter this realm serve him.
Liu asks where Raiden is, and Kahn claims they know him not at all.
Raiden is there and wants to see you. Raiden then teleports down only
to swing his staff at Liu and Lao’s face. “Raiden” then transforms
into Shang Tsung. He wants this victory to be his and only his. Tsung
then beckons us to fight.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<^>^<
{Boss – Shang Tsung}
<^>^<^>^<^<^<>^<^>^<

The first of three boss battles, Shang Tsung is by no means easy,
but he can be defeated with patience. Especially watch out for his
Triple Fireballs and the 3 fireballs that erupt from the ground. Long
Jumping over then is probably the safest bet. Shang can also transform
into other characters, giving you an opportunity to unload on him.
Stay far back though as close combos cause him to just throw you.
Projectiles and close combos when he is transformed work best. He can
morph into pretty much everyone (Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage etc. so remember
their special moves and watch out for those).
With Shang dead, Fatality him with L, U, U, D, B. Liu proceeds to
punch Tsung repeatedly in the chest and gets him down on one knee to
crack his neck. Shao Kahn says that all within this realm serve his
will even those that seek to betray him. Tsung wanted to use the power
he gained from Lao and Liu to take over Shao Kahn’s realm. Kahn’s
people want Kintaro to fight. Here he comes down a corridor playing to
the crowd. He jumps into the arena and it’s on.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<
{Boss – Kintaro}
<^>^<^>^<^<^<>^<

Kintaro, like Goro before him can’t block. Use this to your
advantage and whenever you’ve created room between you and him, shoot
projectiles at him. Don’t get too close or he’ll shoot a fireball at
you doing moderate damage. He also has a move where he jumps off-
screen and pounds around. There is no way to know where he is going to
land, so just Long Jump around when he’s doing this.
With his health depleted completely, Fatality him with D, L, D, R,
B. Kang jump kicks his face and tries to punch him. Kintaro grabs
him, but Liu grabs a hold of his two bottom arms and rips them clean
off. He then flips and rips another arm off; he does the same with the
other arm and then proceeds to tug and rip his head off.
A cut-scene plays with Shao Kahn saying that they can earn their
friends’ freedom if they defeat him. A voice from above says the Elder
Gods will help you. The final boss of the game awaits!

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<^>
Boss – Shao Kahn
<^>^<^>^<^<^<>^<^>

Shao Kahn uses his Shoulder Barge (the cheapest move in the game)
and Green Fireball from MK3 a lot so be wary of that. His rising knee
lift is deadly if you like to be air born during the fight. He also
cannot block, so projectiles are good against. With his health about
half gone, a cut-scene plays showing Kahn take out his sledgehammer and
whip it at Liu Kang. Liu flips over it, grabs it and whips it back at
Kahn. It smashes Shao Kahn in the face knocking off his helmet in the
process. The fight then begins. Shao Kahn swings his sledgehammer
pretty violently, so just Long Jump out of the way. If he hits you
when he is in one of his spinning hammer moves, mucho damage will be
taken off. Watch out for it. Also, don’t get too close to him or
he’ll grab you and smash you to the ground.
Once his health hits zero, Fatality him and enjoy the ending.
Congratulations you’ve completed Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>
[VIII. Boss Strategies]
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>

This section will contain boss strategies to help you vanquish the
game’s many bosses. The strategies listed below can also be found
throughout the walkthrough, but I’ve put them here for your
convenience. The bosses will be listed in the order they appear
throughout the game. All sub-bosses will be included as well. Good
luck!

--> Goro’s Lair:

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^
{Boss – Oni Warlord}

--> Evil Monastery:

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>
{Boss – Kitana}

Liu Kang and Kung Lao then jump into the portal
after her.

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<^>^<^>^
{Bosses – Mileena and Jade}
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^>^<^>^<^>^<

Focus all your attacks on Kitana, keeping a watchful eye on
Mileena and her teleport kick, as well as Jade’s fireball attack.
After a few well-landed hits on Kitana, a cut-scene plays showing your
character hurl Kitana into the device once more. While she is trapped,
Mileena and Jade will attempt to free her; a little meter appears
saying “Spell Time,” and once this meter fully depletes, Kitana is
freed. You must stop them; or the battle will continue unnecessarily.

--> Reptile’s Lair:

<^>^<^>^<^>^<
Boss – Snake
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^

The first part of this battle has the snake slithering all over
the ground. Don’t even try to attack it or you will just get hurt.

Kombat’s, namely his slide move, invincibility move, and green acid
spit move.
This can get pretty
tough. His head sometimes shows through to give you an idea of where
he is.  His fireballs also are not invisible, so watch out for those;
they can do massive damage if he hits you successfully more than once

--> Soul Tombs:

--> Wastelands:

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<^
{Boss – Sub-Zero}

<^>^<^>^<^>^>
{Boss – Goro}

Just stay back and pelt
him.

--> Netherrealm:

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<^
{Boss – Scorpion}

--> The Foundry:

<^>^<^>^<^>^<>^<^>^<
{Boss – Shang Tsung}

{Boss – Kintaro}

<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^<^>
[IX. Token Locations]
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^<^>

Throughout Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, there are various tokens
scattered about. These tokens come in the form of red and black Yin
Yang symbols and Mortal Kombat Dragon Symbols. Collecting these tokens
unlocks various goodies including concept art, movies, Fatality images
etc. These tokens can be found anywhere. There are a total of 68 and
all of their locations can be found below. I will list the tokens in
chronological order.

--> Goro’s Lair:
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-

> Concept Art: In the very first room of the game (after you fall
through the hole), throw an enemy into the skeleton hanging on the
wall.

> Movie: In the second room, right above the entrance, is a Yin Yang
token. It is possible to obtain this by continually jumping off the
Oni’s heads or just coming back when you have the Double Jump ability
(that’s the preferred method).

> Concept Art: When you get to the bridge area, stand on top of it and
look at the moon. When the witch shadow flies across it, shoot the
moon with your projectile. The token will appear beside you.

> Concept Art: In the room with the Fatality icon, knock an enemy into
the hanging chandelier (knocking it down in the process) to reveal a
token.

> Fatality Input Image: In the room with the huge fire in the middle
and the breakable wall, Double Jump near the wall at the end of the
room to find the token.

> Concept Art: In the room with the Warlord, Double Jump across the two
bridges and drop down near the bottom of the screen to find a hidden
ledge with a token resting on it.

--> Wu Shi Academy:
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

> Concept Art: In the first area (with the many catapults lying around)
throw an enemy onto the third one to send them crashing through a
walling with a token inside.

> Warrior Shrine (Vs. Level): In the first area, throw an enemy onto
the fourth catapult to toss them into a barrier allowing you access to
the token.

> Concept Art: This token is only available in co-op mode. In the
second part of the stage, (where you meet Johnny Cage) there is a
switch. Pull this switch to open a small gate near the start of the
area.

> Wu Shi Academy (Vs. Level): This token is only available in co-op
mode. In the second part of the stage, (where you meet Johnny Cage)
there is a switch. Pull this switch to open a small gate near the
start of the area.

> Arena Art: Near the middle of this stage, you will see a token
resting on a ledge protected by wall spikes. Take a running start,
jump as far as possible and then Double Jump. You should land on a
ledge to the right of the token.

Your Might mini-game, climb up the broken down temple. Jump inside to
find the token that unlocks Johnny Cage.

> Fatality Input Image: Once you have obtained both the Double Jump and
Wall Run abilities, head back to the area where you had to cut the
ropes to drop the lava pots on the baddies. On the left is a hidden
wall. Wall Run up the wall and then Double Jump to obtain the token.

> Concept Art: Near the portal to Outworld, there is a koin to the left
protected by spikes. Once you have obtained the Swing ability, swing
on the tree branch over to the token.

> Concept Art: In the first area of this level, run to the left. Break
the statue with the Fist of Ruin ability. Run along the path and you
will eventually fight Ermac. Defeat him to obtain the token.

--> The Portal:
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

> Wastelands (Vs. Level): This token is only available in co-op mode.
To the bottom right of this over world, there are two switches that
each player must stand on. These switches “eject” a ledge out of a
miniature tower. Atop this tower is another token.

--> Evil Monastery:
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

> Concept Art: There is token floating outside one of the upstairs
windows. To obtain it, shoot a projectile at it or throw an enemy at
it. The token will appear beside you.

> Evil Monastery (Vs. Level): This token is only available in co-op
mode. Step on the two switches and walk into the next room to obtain
the token.

> Concept Art: In the room with the claws, throw enemies onto both of
them to reveal a token.

> Kitana (secret character): In the area where you learn the Multality,
jump onto the upper rightmost broken pillar and then onto the roof to
unlock Kitana.

> Concept Art: If you backtrack to where you fought Kitana, Jade and
Mileena (after you’ve beaten them) a token will be there.

--> Living Forest:
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-

> Concept Art: In the very first area, there are some branches that you
can Double Jump to; start swinging and jumping and you’ll land on a
ledge. Begin climbing the ladder and you’ll be transported to another
portion of the stage. Run along the pathways and you’ll eventually see
a floating Dragon Token. Shoot it to reveal the token.

> Fatality Input Image: Stay in this treetop area and continue running
along the bridges. You will eventually come to a pink area. Mileena
appears along with two Masked Guards. After Mileena is defeated, you
will earn another token.

that roll toward you) break all the statues to obtain the token.

> Fatality Input Image: As you are traversing the tunnels in Reptile’s
Lair, you will see a half-closed eye. Shoot it open to get the token.

> Deadpool (Vs. Level): This token is only available in co-op mode. In
one of the later levels of the Living Forest (you’ll be able to see the
switches in clear view) step on the switches to reveal the token.

> Living Forest (Vs. Level): In the same area as the Deadpool token,
locate the golden ball and drop down to the right of it to find the
token.

--> Soul Tombs:
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

> Arena Art: Right after you enter the Soul Tombs portal, look to your
left to see a floating Dragon Token. Shoot it to reveal a Yin Yang
token.

> Arena Art: In the main “hub” of this stage, Wall Run up the wall
leading to the fight with Baraka.

sarcophagi. Throw an enemy into each of these sarcophagi to obtain the
token.

> Baraka (secret character): In the room with the fans, find the statue
that you can break with the Fist of Ruin. Jump up the platform to
retrieve the token.

> Movie: After destroying the statue that leads to Baraka, locate the
other token in the near vicinity.

> Arena Art: In the room with all the Tarkatas and hooks, throw one of
them onto a hook to reveal this token.

> Concept Art: In the area where you have to jump across all those
platforms whilst various projectiles are being hurled at you find a
pterodactyl. Once spotted, throw an enemy into it causing it to drop a
token.

> Fatality Input Image: In the room with the rotating blades, you
should see a token hovering above it. Climb above the blades and Long
Jump just perfectly to nab it.

> Kombat Crag (Vs. Level): In the room after the huge rotating blades,
break the statue with the Fist of Ruin to obtain the token.

> Fatality Input Image: After getting the Kombat Crag, Wall Run up the
prison wall to get this token.

> Fatality Input Image: After getting the above token, jump into the
middle section. Long Jump to retrieve the token.

> Arena Art: Head back to where you fought Baraka (after you killed him
of course) and you will see a token waiting for you.

near some metal grating. Climb said grating to obtain the token.

--> Netherrealm:
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-

> Arena Art: As you head down the steps, you should spot the token
hovering over an archway. Long Jump to obtain it.

--> The Foundry:
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-

> Concept Art: In the very first room, go up the stairs to the left and
Double Jump toward the middle. When you hit the wall, keeping Wall
Jumping back and forth until you reach the top. Grab the token and
fall back down.

> Arena Art: In the main room of the Foundry, jump and kick one of the
pots carrying lava to make it drop a token.

Right before the lever, Wall Run up the wall to get the token.

> Scorpion (secret character): In the main area, take the northernmost
path. Two archers ambush you here. Throw one of them into the wall on
the left, breaking it open. Enter the room and throw an enemy into the
lava pit. Jump on his poor body and retrieve the token.

> Concept Art: In the axe making room, walk left to find a semi-hidden
token.

> Movie: On the second floor of the Orochi Hellbeast room, Fist of Ruin
one of the walls to reveal a Dragon Token. Shoot it to make the red
yin yang token appear.

> Concept Art: In the room with the smashing hammers, toss an enemy in
between them just as they smash together to reveal another token.

> Concept Art: In the room where you finally get your axe, cut through
the pipes underneath the monster head to find a token.

[X. Kodes and Secret Characters/Smoke Missions]
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>

This section will contain the various kodes and secrets hidden
within Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. I will start with the Secret
Character Move and Fatality Lists followed by the Smoke Missions.

There are a total of four playable characters in the single player
mode: Scorpion, Kung Lao, Liu Kang and Sub-Zero (their Move and
Fatality Lists are located above). In the Vs. mode, there are four
additional characters: Baraka, Kitana, Johnny Cage and Reptile.
Scorpion only becomes playable after beating the game as Liu Kang.

Smoke Missions:
<^>^<^>^<^>^<^>^<

The Smoke Missions are hidden missions that once completed unlock
an arcade perfect port of Mortal Kombat II. Listed below are the 5
missions and the parameters that need to be met in order to complete
them. In order to start these missions, you need to find Smoke first
in the Living Forest. He is located in the area with the waterfalls.
When you come across the second set of Clay Soldiers, throw one of them
into the rock that is blocking a doorway. Head inside to find Smoke.
Talk to him each time you complete a mission until they are all done.

--> Mission 1: Break the walls in the Soul Tombs.

You have to break the walls in the Soul Tombs for this mission.
So head to the Soul Tombs and go through the green room. In the first
room of this portion of the level, throw the Tarkatas through the
breakable wall toward the back of the room. You’ll also be rewarded
with a Fatality and 500 EXP.

--> Mission 2: Find the shrine.

You have to “find the shrine” in this mission. When you first
entered the Wu Shi Academy you came to a fork. We ended up taking the
right fork. It is now time to take the left one. Long Jump over the
spike pit and knock down the statue with the Fist of Ruin. Walk up to
the wooden double doors and you’ll be rewarded with 700 EXP.

--> Mission 3: Perform 3 sacrifices in the torture room.

In order to perform these three sacrifices, head to the Soul Tombs
once again. As you enter a cut-scene will play out showing you where
you need to go. It turns out that a new door with a skull over it has
opened up. In this room is a pit and 3 different portions of the wall
with spikes on them. You need to throw three enemies onto these spikes
in order to pass the mission. You’ll be rewarded with 700 EXP.

--> Mission 4: Throw an enemy into the purple portals in the Portal
area.

Head to the Portal (the main hub of the game). If you remember,
there are two small purple portals scattered about. On the uppermost
portion of the Portal area (across the gap) is a small portal straight
ahead. Throw one of the Shadow Priests into it or one of the other
guards around. The second portal can be found on the lowermost portion
of this area. Go to this area and locate the portal; it is back and to
the right. Throw one of the Shadow Priests or the Demon Captain into
it to complete the mission. You’ll be rewarded 700 EXP for completing
the mission.

--> Mission 5: Survive in the frozen wasteland.

Go through the portal that opens up to the right of Smoke. You
find yourself in the Pit II from Mortal Kombat II! Enemy upon enemy
will continue to attack you. Kill all of them (throwing some off the
bridge helps tremendously) and return to Smoke; you’ll be rewarded with
700 EXP once again. For completing Smoke’s missions, you unlocked
Mortal Kombat II! Congratulations!
