This is my first FAQ. I am writing it because of my love
of Kamen Rider Kabuto, and because of the many requests
for a guide for this game from the few non-Japanese
users in the gamespot community that are playing it. I
will attempt to include as much information as possible.
This game could be categorized as a brawler, and it is
based on TV-Asahi's Kamen Rider Kabuto, which is the
thirteenth series in the Kamen Rider franchise.
Kamen Rider Kabuto's story centers around a meteorite
that falls to earth seven years before the beginning of
the series. Which destroys Shibuya city and brings with
it hostile aliens called Worms that can mimic human
appearance and memories. Because of this threat "ZECT"
is created, which is an organization designed to fight
the Worms and is armed with the "Masked Rider System".
The Masked Rider System is a series of small intelligent
robots called "Zecters" and their interface equipment
that when joined to a host give the host weapons and
abilities that can effect time and space and ultimately
defeat the Worms. Each Zecter is unique and so each
"Rider"'s appearance and special abilities are also
unique, but they do all share some common abilities like
the ability to move a super speed while in a "Clock Up"
state.
The story progresses introducing ever more powerful
Riders and Worms and ends with a final climactic battle.
However this game does not cover the entirety of the
Kamen Rider Kabuto story, but covers most of the series
and the two movies that were released the same year, one
in theaters and one on DVD.
In order from top to bottom as they appear in the start
menu after they have all been unlocked.
Modes marked with an "*" are not available at start and
must be unlocked. See the Unlockables section for
details on how to access these modes.
- Return to Opening
Returns you to the opening movie which can feature
different characters depending on how many you have
unlocked.
- 1P "Buster Mode" (single player Story Mode)
This is the main story mode for the game in which your
characters are fixed, and it will be referred to as
"single player Story Mode" from this point forward.
This mode is seperated into three routes;
"Kabuto Route": Takes you through a series of
battles as Kamen Rider Kabuto that correspond
to key events in the story involving that
character.
"Rider Route": Takes you through a series of
battles as other riders that correspond to key
events in the story involving those characters.
"Worm Route": Takes you through a series of
battles as various Worms that correspond to key
events in the story involving those characters.
You must complete all three routes to complete single
player Story Mode.
- 1P/2P "Battle Mode" (2 player Story Mode)
This is the secondary story mode for the game in which
you can choose your own characters and play alone or
with a second player co-operatively, and it will be
referred to as "2 player Story Mode" from this point
forward. To play this mode with only one character,
which is important for unlocking new characters, choose
your first character and then press Triangle.
- 1P/2P "Free Battle Mode" (vs Computer)
In this mode you can play alone or with a second player
co-operatively against computer opponents of your
choice. The matches in this mode are single matches,
there is no story or continuation after the end of a
match.
- 1P/2P "Taisen Mode" (2P vs Mode)
This is the standard vs mode. Two players can play
against each other with any of the characters you have
unlocked.
- 1P/2P "Survival Mode" (2P Survival Mode) *
In this mode you can play alone or with a second player
co-operatively against up to 100 or 200 consecutive
computer opponents, and it will be referred to as "2P
Survival Mode" from this point forward. To play this
mode with only one character, which is important for
unlocking new characters, choose your first character
and then press Triangle.
In this mode enemies will sometimes drop power-ups in
the form of various foods that appeared in the show.
Here is what I know about them;
"Tropical Ramen": This seems to appear at random
and subtracts from the green status bar if you
pick it up. So you should usually try not to,
unless you are trying to pick them up to unlock
the two characters that can be unlocked by
getting a certain number of them.
"Tofu": This also seems to appear at random and
restores a fraction of your health if you pick
it up.
"La-MEN": This also seems to appear at random
and restores a fraction of your health if you
pick it up.
"Zarusoba": Everytime you defeat an enemy with
a throw they will drop zarusoba, and it fills
your green status bar when you pick it up. This
is one of the two most useful of the power-ups.
"Sabamisou": Everytime you defeat an enemy with
your finishing move they will drop sabamisou,
and it fills your health bar when you pick it up
. This is one of the two most useful of the
power-ups.
- "Demo Viewer Mode"
In this mode you can view all of the cinematics that are
in the game. As you view them in single player Story
Mode you will unlock them. In Demo Viewer Mode, first
you choose what kind of cinematic you want to watch.
Then you choose which character or characters you want
to see in the cinematic if possible. And finally you
choose which of the games stages you want the cinematic
to take place in if possible.
I will not be providing a complete translation of all of
the cinematics because there are so many, and my
Japanese is not top notch. If someone else wants to
provide a translation I would be happy to include it in
the next version of this FAQ.
These are just some of the cinematics available as
translated by ghobot_21 for his FAQ, and reproduced
here for reference with his permission.
The Square button is used for jumping, but can also be
used for quick evasion when holding the R1 button
and pressing in a direction. During Clock Up pressing
Square will perform a dash attack against the next
enemy.
Cast Off/Molt: which changes the Rider
characters from their "Masked Form" into their
"Rider Form" and the Worm characters from their
"Pupa Form" into their "Molted Form" if possible
after they have filled the pink status bar.
Clock Up: which allows characters to enter a
state of super speed for a limited time if
possible after they have changed into their more
powerful form and filled the green status bar.
Rider Finishing Moves: Which are the signiture
finishing moves for each of the RIDER characters
and can be performed only while in a Clock Up
state.
- Circle: Quick Attack (+R1 = parry, +X = throw)
The Circle button is the quick attack button, it can
also be used with the R1 and X buttons to perform a
parry and a throw respectively. This button can be used
to perform combo attacks.
The X button is the heavy attack button. With most
characters it can be used with a direction to perform a
variety of attacks. It can also be used with the R1,
Circle, and Square buttons to perform a clearing attack,
a throw, and to change weapons or use a special weapon
or attack respectively.
- R1: Guard (see other buttons for other uses)
The R1 button is the guard button and can be used with
the other buttons to perform a vareity of actions.
This list represents all of the characters known to
appear in this game in order from left to right, as they
appear on the character selection screen after they have
all been unlocked, starting with the ZECT Trooper. The
Pupaworm and White Pupaworm are the only exceptions. The
Pupaworm is simply the original form of all of the worm
characters in the game. The White Pupaworm is included
because it does appear in the game but it is unknown how
to unlock this character, it is included for the sake of
completeness.
Characters marked with an "*" are not available at
start. See the Unlockables section for details on how to
access these characters.
- ZECT Trooper:
This is the standard defensive unit used by ZECT. While
marginally effective against Pupaworms they are entirely
ineffective against molted Worms.
- ZECT Shadow Trooper: *
This is the Elite unit used by ZECT. They are supposedly
more skilled than the basic ZECT Trooper but usually are
just as ineffective. The ZECT Shadow Troopers are lead
by Kamen Rider TheBee.
- Kamen Rider Kabuto:
This is the main character for the Kamen Rider Kabuto
series. Touted as the most powerful of the riders, he is
really a mysterious man named Tendou Souji who vows to
protect Earth from the Worms. So everyday he goes about
fighting the Worms, quoting his grandmother, and
"Walking the path of Heaven". He is not a member of ZECT
but uses a Zecter and so is an enemy of not only the
Worms but of ZECT as well.
Kamen Rider Kabuto is armed with a multipurpose weapon
that can be used as a gun, axe, and knife, and has a
personal motorcycle as do most of the riders.
Kamen Rider Kabuto's finishing move is the "Rider Kick".
- Kamen Rider Hyper Kabuto: *
This is Kamen Rider Kabuto after he acquires the "Hyper
Zecter", which is a second zecter that augments any
original Zecter's power. In this form Kamen Rider Hyper
Kabuto can move many times faster than other riders and
can summon the "Perfect Zecter" which is a weapon that
can combine the powers of almost all of the other
Zecters and perform devastating attacks.
Kamen Rider Hyper Kabuto uses the Hyper Zecter and so
can "Hyper Clock Up", and is also armed with the Perfect
Zecter and can use versions of the "Rider Sting", "Rider
Shooting", and "Rider Slash" during normal battle. Kamen
Rider Hyper Kabuto's finishing moves are the "Maximum
Hyper Typhoon" and the "Maximum Hyper Cyclone".
- Kamen Rider TheBee - Yaguruma Sou:
Yaguruma Sou is the original host for the TheBee Zecter
and leader of the ZECT Shadow Troopers. He is a
compassionate leader and believes in a philosophy of
"Perfect Harmony". However he falls into a competitive
struggle with Kamen Rider Kabuto and becomes more
selfish, at which time the TheBee Zecter forsakes him
and he disappears.
TheBee Zecter provides no extraneous weaponry and so
Kamen Rider TheBee relies solely on hand to hand combat.
Kamen Rider TheBee - Yaguruma Sou's finishing move is
the "Rider Sting".
- Kamen Rider TheBee - Kagami Arata: *
Kagami Arata is the second host for the TheBee Zecter.
Kagami Arata is the second main character of the Kamen
Rider Kabuto series and is a member of ZECT. He is a low
level member until he is chosen by the TheBee Zecter to
be Kamen Rider TheBee and hence becomes the leader of
the ZECT Shadow Troopers. He eventually has to choose
between his new status as Kamen Rider TheBee and his new
friendship with Tendou Souji, and chooses to abandon the
TheBee Zecter in favor of his friend.
TheBee Zecter provides no extraneous weaponry and so
Kamen Rider TheBee relies solely on hand to hand combat.
Kamen Rider TheBee - Kagami Arata's finishing move is
the "Rider Sting".
- Kamen Rider TheBee - Kageyama Shun: *
Kageyama Shun is the third and final long term host of
the TheBee Zecter. He is originally a ZECT Shadow
Trooper and the number one follower of Yaguruma Sou and
his philosophy of perfect harmony. However when Kageyama
Shun becomes Kamen Rider TheBee, he becomes obsessed
with defeating Kamen Rider Kabuto just as Yaguruma Sou
was, and is drawn into a plot by ZECT and subsequently
has the TheBee Zecter taken from him by Kamen Rider
Kabuto. This drives Kageyama insane, and he tries many
things to get the TheBee Zecter back from Kamen Rider
Kabuto. But his attempts backfire and lead to him being
disenfranchised by ZECT and eventually nearly killed by
ZECT and the Worms. However he is saved by an old friend
and the two of them start down a dark path.
TheBee Zecter provides no extraneous weaponry and so
Kamen Rider TheBee relies solely on hand to hand combat.
Kamen Rider TheBee - Kageyama Shun's finishing move is
the "Rider Sting".
- Kamen Rider Drake:
Kazama Daisuke is the most famous make up artist in
Tokyo and also the host of the Drake Zecter. He does not
like violence and uses the Drake Zecter reluctantly at
first, but as he is drawn further into the struggle with
the Worms, and for the sake of his young charge Gon, he
becomes passionate about fighting the Worms as Kamen
Rider Drake. He is not a member of ZECT and so is also
hounded by them.
Kamen Rider Drake is armed with the Drake Zecter which
takes the form of a large handgun and can be used to
execute many long range attacks. Kamen Rider Drake's
finishing move is "Rider Shooting".
- Kamen Rider Sasword:
Kamishiro Tsurugi is the only surviving member of the
famous British Discabil family line. He seems very
wealthy and powerful, and physically able to match even
Tendou Souji. Wielding the Sasword Zecter he freelances
for ZECT, destroying Worms and collecting fees for his
trouble, but he is soon let go and bankrupted. He
continues fighting the Worms until he sells the Sasword
Zecter to Tendou Souji to try to rebuild his finances.
However there is a sleeping power inside Kamishiro
which is known only to a few others.
Kamen Rider Sasword is armed with the Sasword Yaiber
which takes the form of a long sword and can be used as
such. Kamen Rider Sasword's finishing move is the "Rider
Slash".
- Kamen Rider Gatack:
After Kagami Arata forsakes the TheBee Zecter he returns
to his old post within ZECT. However not long after he
becomes the host of the most powerful un-augmented
Zecter, the Gatack Zecter, and so becomes Kamen Rider
Gatack. As Kamen Rider Gatack he fights the Worms more
fiercely than ever and helps Kamen Rider Kabuto whenever
he can, but he has many experiences that suggest to him
that not all of the Worms are necessarily evil.
Kamen Rider Gatack is the most heavily armed of all of
the un-augmented Zecters, armed with shoulder mounted
"Double Vulcans" in Masked Form, and "Double Caliber"
swords in Rider Form. Kamen Rider Gatack's finishing
moves are the "Rider Kick", and "Rider Cutting" when
using the double calibers.
- Kamen Rider Hyper Gatack: *
This is Kamen Rider Gatack after he has learned to use
the Hyper Zecter. He is not as heavily armed as when in
his regular forms, but he does not need to be given the
speed and power provided by the Hyper Zecter.
Kamen Rider Hyper Gatack uses the Hyper Zecter and so
can "Hyper Clock Up", and is also armed with the double
calibers. Kamen Rider Hyper Gatack's finishing move is
the "Hyper Kick".
- Kamen Rider Kick Hopper: *
Yaguruma Sou resurfaces as Kamen Rider Kick Hopper.
Having abandoned his philosophy of perfect harmony and
embraced a more nihilist view he sets about causing
chaos for ZECT, the Worms, and the other riders.
Thinking he has fallen out of the light and into
darkness he believes that only by going through this
darkness will he find his way back into the light. He
finds his old disciple Kageyama Shun disenfranchised
by ZECT and without direction and takes it upon himself
to show his old disciple the new path. A much more
powerful rider than any of the incarnations of Kamen
Rider TheBee, Kamen Rider Kick Hopper even manages to
best Kamen Rider Kabuto and seems to be at least evenly
matched with him. The Hopper Zecters do not possess
masked forms, and Kamen Rider Kick Hopper relies solely
on kicks for his attacks.
The Hopper Zecters do not provide any extraneous
weaponry and so Kamen Rider Kick Hopper relies solely on
hand to hand combat. Kamen Rider Kick Hopper's finishing
move is the "Rider Jump" followed by the "Rider Kick".
- Kamen Rider Punch Hopper: *
Kageyama Shun, having been nearly killed by ZECT and the
Worms, is saved by Kamen Rider Kick Hopper who is
Kageyama Shun's former mentor, Yaguruma Sou. Yaguruma
Sou subsequently invites Kageyama Shun to join him
"in hell", and gives Kageyama Shun the Punch Hopper
Zecter. He accepts Yaguruma Sou's offer, becomes Kamen
Rider Punch Hopper, and the two then start down their
dark path with the intention of finding their way back
into the light. Like Kamen Rider Kick Hopper, Kamen
Rider Punch Hopper is a much more powerful rider than
any of the incarnations of Kamen Rider TheBee and even
manages to best Kamen Rider Gatack with little help. The
Hopper Zecters do not possess masked forms, and Kamen
Rider Punch Hopper relies solely on punches for his
attacks.
The Hopper Zecters do not provide any extraneous
weaponry and so Kamen Rider Punch Hopper relies solely
on hand to hand combat. Kamen Rider Punch Hopper's
finishing move is the "Rider Jump" followed by the
"Rider Punch".
- Kamen Rider Hercus(silver): *
Oda Hidenario is originally a member of ZECT but does
not agree with all of ZECT's policies and so breaks off
and helps create NEO-ZECT. He is the wielder of the
Hercus Kabutech Zecter and tries to stop a nefarious
plot by ZECT. However during his struggle he is easily
killed by Kamen Rider Caucasu. Kamen Rider Hercus does
not possess a masked form.
Kamen Rider Hercus is armed with an axe/gun similar to
Kamen Rider Kabuto's and uses it to execute his
finishing move, the "Rider Beat".
- Kamen Rider Ketaros(bronze): *
Yamato Tetsuki is a fanatical follower of ZECT. He is
given the order to construct "The Ladder to the Sky", a
huge space station designed to save the Earth. He is
also given the order to destroy NEO-ZECT and so uses the
Ketaros Kabutech Zecter to battle against it, and
eventually is killed trying to protect his precious
space station. Kamen Rider Ketaros does not possess a
masked form.
Kamen Rider Ketaros is armed with a knife similar to
Kamen Rider Kabuto's and uses it to perform his
finishing move, the "Rider Beat".
- Kamen Rider Caucasu(gold): *
Kurosaki Issei is ZECT's most powerful soldier, so
powerful in fact that many in ZECT fear him. He is the
wielder of the Caucasu Kabutech Zecter and the first
user of the Hyper Zecter. His core belief is "The Belief
of The Rose" which is a version of the philosophy of the
survival of the fittest, and that the Worms are more fit
than humans to rule the Earth. He takes this to the
extreme and tries to destroy humanity in favor of the
Worms but is ultimately stopped by Kamen Rider Hyper
Kabuto with the help of Kamen Rider Gatack.
Kamen Rider Caucasu uses the Hyper Zecter and so can
"Hyper Clock Up". Kamen Rider Caucasu's finishing move
is the "Maximum Rider Power" "Rider Kick".
- Kamen Rider Dark Kabuto: *
A human child that is kidnapped by ZECT and used in
years of experiments, the first of which changes him
into a Native Worm. Later he is made to mimic Tendou
Souji as to be used in a further experiment to test the
Hyper Zecter. After ZECT is finished with him he is
imprisoned below the original Shibuya meteor crater and
clasped into an iron mask that prevents his transforming
into his Native Worm form and escaping. These trials
drive him insane and he loses any memory of his previous
life. He is eventually freed and after this is revealed
to be the wielder of the Dark Kabuto Zecter. Kamen Rider
Dark Kabuto becomes Kamen Rider Kabuto's greatest enemy,
but his tragic past may still hold hope for redemption.
Kamen Rider Dark Kabuto is armed exactly the same as
Kamen Rider Kabuto and has his own version of the same
finishing move, the "Rider Kick".
- Pupaworm:
Most Worms appear in this green pupa form, but they all
have the ability to molt into more powerful forms if
they are not destroyed beforehand.
- White Pupaworm: *
This is a rare white pupa form that is rarely seen and
less understood.
- Aracneworm Rubor(red):
The first time Kamen Rider Kabuto encountered a Worm in
its molted form it was Aracneworm Rubor. It was
subsequently destroyed by Kamen Rider Kabuto's multi-
purpose weapon in axe mode.
- Aracneworm Flavus(black): *
When Kamen Rider Kabuto encountered Aracneworm Flavus he
destroyed it using his multi-purpose weapon in knife
mode.
- Aracneworm Nigrita(white): *
The encounter with Aracneworm Nigrita marked the first
time Kamen Rider Kabuto destroyed a molted Worm with his
rider kick.
- Verberworm:
The Verberworms are identifiable by their bright purple
coloration and yellow fin-like collar ridges. Verberworm
was destroyed by Kamen Rider Kabuto's rider kick.
- Verberworm Rota: *
Verberworm Rota is distinct because of the large yellow
claws and covered eyes it possesses. This molted Worm
was also the first to be destroyed by Kamen Rider
TheBee's rider sting.
- Formicaalubusworm:
Formicaalubusworm is identifiable by its translucent
yellow lens covering its upper face and forehead, it
also appears that its brain is exposed under this cover.
This was the first molted worm to be destroyed by Kamen
Rider Drake's rider shooting.
- Scorpioworm: *
Known only to very few, Scorpioworm is in fact the true
form of Kamishiro Tsurugi who is Kamen Rider Sasword.
Scorpioworm killed Tsurugi's older sister and mimicked
and killed him. It is theorized that the memories of
Tsurugi were so strong that they split Scorpioworm's
personality and the Kamishiro Tsurugi personality was
able to take control while not realizing that he was in
fact Scorpioworm. So the new Kamishiro Tsurugi armed
with the Sasword Zecter embarks on a quest to find the
Worm who killed his sister, all the while not knowing
that it is himself. The Sasword Zecter gets in the way
of this because every time Kamen Rider Sasword uses his
rider slash the surge of energy causes him to
unintentionally transform into Scorpioworm who's
personality re-asserts itself with murderous results. In
all of its encounters with the riders Scorpioworm
appears to far outclass them in strength, besting even
Kamen Rider Kabuto.
- Sepulturaworm:
Distinctive for its black and yellow coloration and
large black shield-like plate on its left arm,
Sepulturaworm was the first molted Worm to be destroyed
by Kamen Rider Sasword's rider slash.
- Tarantesworm Purpura: *
Identifiable by its white and purple coloration and red
eyes this was the first molted Worm to be destroyed by
Kamen Rider Gatack's rider kick.
- Acarinaworm Amber: *
This molted Worm is identifiable by its yellow
coloration and the many black spines all over its body
that it can use as projectiles against its enemies.
This worm is also notable because it mimicked Kazama
Daisuke and subsequently framed him for murder and stole
the Drake Zecter, even being able to use it to become
Kamen Rider Drake for a short time. It was eventually
destroyed by Kamen Rider Drake's rider shooting followed
by a flurry of punches.
- Ucaworm: *
As of the publishing of this game Ucaworm is the most
powerful Worm to have appeared, and is the nemesis of
the riders for many episodes of the series. Distinct
because of its mask-like face and large claw, it is an
executive Worm, which many other Worms follow. The power
of Ucaworm is such that it can defeat any of the un-
augmented riders with ease and sometimes more than one
at a time. Ucaworm works with ZECT to try to destroy
Kamen Rider Kabuto, and in so doing is given Kageyama
Shun as a subordinate. Ucaworm hates humans and abuses
Kageyama Shun at every opportunity, and is even involved
in the circumstances that lead to Kageyama Shun losing
the TheBee Zecter and his subsequent reunion with
Yaguruma Sou and becoming Kamen Rider Punch Hopper. The
only thing Ucaworm fears is the Hyper Zecter, and after
Kamen Rider Kabuto acquires it Ucaworm's luck begins to
change for the worse.
