[1) Introduction to Plates] (xxintroxx)
In a game called Steambot Chronicles (otherwise known as 'Ponkotsu Roman
Daikatsugeki Bumpy Trot' in Japan), there exists certain special Plates.
These are not just ordinary plates, these are plates with a capital 'P'.
Yes, they are indeed that special. These Plates aren't the ones you use for
eating, these ones have a different purpose. These Plates exist for the sole
purpose of being slapped on the front and back ends of a person's Trotmobile
(the vehicle you pilot in the game). A person doesn’t need to collect them
all in order to finish the game, but for completionists it is a must.
There is a total of 30 custom Plates throughout the game. And along with these
custom ones, the game gives you 4 empty plates, in which you can use to make
a total of 4 plates of your very own. There are a quite a lot of
easy-to-obtain custom Plates, as well as some aggravating throw-your-Dualshock
2-at-the-wall ones.
This FAQ is here for the purpose to aid its readers on their quest to obtain
all of the Plates. I hope it helps and good luck Plate hunters
(especially for some of the harder-to-get ones)!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2) Custom Plates] (xxcustomxx)
If you’ve read the above introduction (and you should just for the fun of it),
you should know that there is a total of 30 Plates to be found in the game.
In this section, I will list them as well as some info on them. I'll
try to keep it in the order you find them.
Here's a list you can use to search for whatever you are looking for:

************************
Name: Default
Appearance: A red circle with a red line at its diameter on a white background.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Extremely Easy
How-To-Obtain: This is the Plate that your Trotmobile comes equipped with.
All you have to do is get on the Trotmobile and it is all yours.
************************
Name: Tutorial
Appearance: A picture of pink lips?
Missable: Yes
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Surprisingly Difficult
How-To-Obtain: This can only be obtained before even the game starts.
Confused? You have to choose the option Tutorial in the main
menu of the game and play through that. The tutorial is
fairly easy. That is, until you have to fight Captain Ciboulette.
Her Trotmobile is pretty hard to beat, considering that this is
just the tutorial. A good strategy I used while fighting her
was to try to get as close to her as possible while dodging her
attacks. Why? Because that way I will have the chance to pick
her up and throw her. When thrown, the captain's Trotmobile
will be stunned for a few seconds, this is your chance to
dish in a few melee attacks.
************************
Name: Hayabusa
Appearance: A picture of a blue bird with its wings out spread. Pretty
cool in my opinion.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: The Plate is located in the Hayabusa Plateau (obviously).
It is the area between Nefroburg and Seagull Beach. You
will have to get off your Trotmobile at the entrance of
the carpet mill and follow a set of stairs just ahead
of the parking cone. The stairs will lead you to a small
set of benches. On one of the benches, there will be a
mechanic sitting there. Talk to him and ask him about
Trotmobiles, then Customization, and finally Plates.
************************
Name: Sheep
Appearance: As its name implies, it is a picture of a sheep.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: The Plate is located at Vision Ranch. Talk to the man
inside the sheep farm. Buy some of his goods and he will
give you the Plate. Keep in mind that this man won't be
selling his goods during the night.
************************
Name: K.E. Logo
Appearance: A picture of a purple elephant, the logo of the Killer
Elephants gang.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: This Plate will be given to you during the course of the
story. You will have to join the Killer Elephants first
in order for them to give it to you. First, go to the
Aphrodite Bar underneath the Siberian Musk Hotel and
talk to the cheerful K.E. gang member, he is the
one sitting closest to the piano. He will give you
a employment form if you answer correctly. Then, during
the event of the Killer Elephants takeover of Nefroburg,
go talk to the man with a cane next to the museum. He
will ask you a series of questions, then give you the Plate.
************************
Name: Nefro Metro
Appearance: It's a yellow plate with a picture of a bus.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: During the story, you will be forced to take Connie to Happy
Garland. As you head to the Sabbia Desert, the Bus Company
President will stop you and give you this Plate.
************************
Name: Merchant
Appearance: It's a picture of a brown bag of gold.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: This is also obtained during story events. As you exit Fort
Raven, you will be stopped by Delson. He will give you the
Plate in order for you to escort the merchants through the
Sabbia Desert.
************************
Name: Flower
Appearance: A picture of flowers, what more can I say?
Missable: Yes
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Medium
How-To-Obtain: In order to get this one, you first have to have access to
the Honeybee Gardens. The Honeybee Gardens is in the Pantano
Swampland area, which is to your right as you take the Sabbia
Desert Exit in Nefroburg. So first, go to the abandoned house
located at Zibala Hill. Speak to Flora and then go upstairs
to the balcony. Examine the flowers up there and then return
to Flora. Speak to her again and you will be given a choice.
Tell her that her flowers are dead. Also, speak to the nun
there and say that you are NOT the owner or else you'll be
pretty much screwed in getting this Plate. Next, equip your
Trotmobile with a Tank back part. Traverse to the Honeybee
Gardens, depending on whether or not you've been there and
whether if you've been to Fort Raven, you will forced to
fight Dudley. Talk to the daughter of the beekeeper there.
You will be given the choice to tell her about Flora, do so
and she will want you to deliver seeds to her. While you
are there, grab some Spring Water at the corner of the garden.
Return to the abandoned house at Zibala Hill and give Flora
the seeds. Go to a nearby resting place (I recommend the
mechanic besides the entrance to Nefroburg) and rest till the
next morning. Return to the orphanage and donate Spring
Water by speaking to the nun. Then go back to rest, sleep for
a few days to pass the time. Go back to the orphanage and
speak to Flora, she will give you a letter for the Beekeeper's
daughter. Give that letter to the Beekeeper's daughter and she
will want you to give Flora a letter as well. "Donate" the
response letter and rest for another day. Return to the
Honeybee Gardens and speak to Flora there. Finally, after
that massive fetch quest you will be rewarded with the Plate.
************************
Name: Band Logo
Appearance: It's the one on the Trotmobile on the front cover of
the (U.S.) game case.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: Here's another one given to you automatically during the
story. You get it after playing with the Garland Globetrotter's
in the Lobster Inn for the first time.
************************
Name: Saffron
Appearance: It's a picture of a purple mask not unlike the one Saffron at the
Happy Garland Arena wears.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Medium
How-To-Obtain: During the day in Happy Garland, you may sometimes see the
Friendly Woman who wanders around the GTW Factory. Speak to
her. Then during the night, enter the Happy Garland Arena. Go
upstairs and speak to Saffron, she is an arena fighter that
wears all purple and a mask. Next, walk up to the receptionist
and battle an arena fighter there or bet on a match. This will
enable the tournament to end. When you leave the arena, you
should see the Friendly Woman leaving the place as well.
Follow her to a beaten down shack in the GTW Factory. When
she stops at the door, go and speak to her. Now, you will have
to enter a name. Enter the name 'Saffron' and she will let you
in her home. Go down the ladder in the single room and you
will get a cutscene along with a Mask Grill. Now rest up till
the next the morning. During the next morning, enter the shack
again and then go downstairs via the ladder. Another scene
will occur here. After that, leave the basement and you will
see Saffron waiting for you. She will give you her Plate.
************************
Name: Fenn Ruins
Appearance: It kinda looks like the face of one of those Mayan Statues.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Not that hard, just very tedious.
How-To-Obtain: Okay, this is going to take you awhile to obtain. I hope you
like deep dark similar looking hallways, because that is what
you'll be seeing for quite awhile. But this is worth it,
because you will be doing three tasks at the same time!
The ruins contain some artifacts for the museum, you need
those for the Museum Plate (CAUTION: SEE NOTE BELOW).
It also has gems, you need these for the Desert Hornets
Plate. And you are obviously here for the Fenn Ruins Plate.
The ruins are located at Fort Raven. To get this one, you
will have to clear the dungeon many times. The artifacts
are located in the treasure boxes. You will be seeing a lot
of Moldy Bread and Rotten Meat after a while of dungeon
crawling, so get used to it. It took me about 25 level 3
dungeon runs before I found the Plate. Once the dungeon is
cleaned out of all its artifacts, you will have to find its
Plate in one of the treasure boxes. Be sure to scavenge the
3rd floor, as that floor seems to yield more artifacts than
the others.
NOTE: Apparently the Fenn Ruins have a glitch associated with them. If you
want the Museum Plate you must enter these ruins last, or else you
risk having the museum glitch up on you.
************************
Name: Eurydika Mine
Appearance: A picture of a pick and a mine cart.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Not-that-hard-just-tedious-like-the-ruins
How-To-Obtain: Okay, this is going to take you awhile to obtain. I hope you
like deep dark similar looking hallways, because that is what
you'll be seeing for quite awhile. But this is worth it,
because you will be doing three tasks at the same time! The
mine contains some artifacts for the museum, you need those
for the Museum Plate. It also has gems, you need these
for the Desert Hornets Plate. And you are obviously here for
the Eurydika Mine Plate. The mine is located at Eurydika
obviously. To get this one, you will have to clear the dungeon
many times. The artifacts are located in the treasure boxes.
You will be seeing a lot of Moldy Bread and Rotten Meat after
a while of dungeon crawling, so get used to it. It took me
about 25 level 3 dungeon runs before I found the Plate. Once
the dungeon is cleaned out of all its artifacts, you will
have to find its Plate in one of the treasure boxes. Be sure
to scavenge the 3rd floor, as that floor seems to yield more
artifacts than the others. And yes, I this was a slightly
modified version of my other paragraph.
************************
Name: Martlett Falls
Appearance: It's a waterfall...
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Medium
How-To-Obtain: Start at Happy Garland, then head for the Martlett Falls Exit.
You will have to get through some enemies and possibly a boss
(if you haven't fought it yet). Once you've reached the
waterfall, get behind it. Go up the slope to your right and
the path will lead you to a treasure box containing the Plate.
************************
Name: Logo of Love
Appearance: A few hearts scattered about on the Plate.
Missable: Possibly
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: At Happy Garland, you may sometimes see a woman wearing a
pink dress wandering the streets near the Lobster Inn at
night. Talk to her and she will want you to remember her
name, this can be only done before the end of the game.
Then after you've seen the ending of the game, speak to her
again. Call her by her real name and you will get this
Plate (it's Misty by the way).
************************
Name: Weary Nun
Appearance: A picture of a weary nun... at least that's what the game
description says.
Missable: Possibly
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Medium
How-To-Obtain: For this one, you will have to get rid of all the kids at the
abandoned house. I've already told you how to get rid of Flora
in an earlier section, so you have two more to go. You've
probably spoken to the nun already and told her that the
abandoned house is not yours. Because if you choose to say
that the house was yours... Well, I'll have to tell you that
you're screwed in getting the Plate.
So anyways:
To find a home for Rick, you would have to have met Don Puccini
in Neuhafen first. Speak to Rick first. Then head right over to
the Neuhafen Arena. Go upstairs and down a set of stairs next
to the pool tables. You will now be in the Don's personal bar.
Talk to him and he will give you a letter. Go back to the
Zibala Abandoned House and "donate" the letter to Sister Kate.
Now to get rid of Robert, you will need to pay a visit to the
Happy Garland University. Go to the science department of the
school during the day (because the school will be empty during
the night, despite someone there saying something about night
classes). Speak to the science professor there. Then head to
the Abandoned House and talk to Robert. Tell him about the
professor's problem and he will solve it. Then go back to
the university and speak to the professor again. He will give
you an approval letter to give to Robert. "Donate" the letter
to Sister Kate and you are finished.
Go to the nearest resting place and sleep for the day.
During the next morning, go to the house again. If Sister Kate
is there, speak to here, then go back to sleep. Then return
the morning after that. You will see a letter and a treasure
box on the table. Read the letter and you will receive
the Plate. The treasure box contains a Donation Box grill part.
************************
Name: Pablo
Appearance: A beautiful landscape drawing...
Missable: Yes
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Medium
How-To-Obtain: You can get this after you beat the game but you cannot as well.
In order to have this available after the endgame you will have
to give the Urban Times in Happy Garland at least one story.
Because if you don't, the offices will become bankrupt in the
end, thus screwing up a certain part in Pablo's quest.
Now for the quest, first go find Pablo the painter in Nefroburg.
He is usually next to the Seagull Beach exit by some trees in
the day. Buy both of the paintings he sells you. Then equip your
Trotmobile with a carriage. Go to the Nefroburg NW bus stop
(the one in the Sabbia Desert Exit) and pick up Pablo. Bring
him to Fort Raven. Then head on over to Alcazar de Condor and
buy the Desert: Arid Painting from him. Pick him up again and
bring him to Happy Garland SW. The bus stop here is pretty hard
to find, it is right next to the fence where the mechanic is.
Go to Happy Garland and visit the Memorial Park. You will find
Pablo around there, buy another painting from him. Next, visit
the University and speak to the students there. Some of them
will tell you that they don't have an art professor. Go to the
Urban Times and speak to Lance, he's the guy across from Betty.
Recommend Pablo to him. Then return to the University and go up
to the art class. Speak to Pablo there and buy his newest painting.
By the way, you can sell his paintings to the guy downstairs
(you will get lots of money for them, and the next day you can
buy them back for cheap). Now go and rest for the rest of the day.
The next day visit the GTW Factory and you will see Pablo sitting
by the trash pile, it's across from Saffron's shack. Buy his
painting then take the Martlett Falls Exit. You will see Pablo
standing by a bus stop there. Take him to the dye farm just up
ahead. When you see him in the farm, talk to him and buy another
painting. Rest for another day, then revisit the farm. Speak to
the lady in the house, then run over to the Kharija Oasis in the
Sabbia Desert. Speak to the art dealer there and he will give you
a beret and a painting. Go back to the dye farm and speak to the
lady in the house again, give her the beret. Rest for a day,
then speak to her again. You will receive the Plate.
************************
Name: 7 Sages
Appearance: Some weird blue cloud thing...
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Medium
How-To-Obtain: To get this one you will have to find and talk to all seven
Sages.
Here is the list of all of them:
1) The first one is in the Kharija Oasis in the Sabbia Desert.
He is in the little house in the back.
2) Go to Martlett Falls and behind it there will be a parking cone.
He's in the little hole in the corner.
3) Go to Cuckoo Forest (Eurydika Exit in Happy Garland) and follow
the river there. He is in a cave behind the river fall.
4) In Neuhafen, go to the Faro Lighthouse. He's on the top floor.
5) You need at least an A rank in the arena to find this guy.
Once you do, go to the Nefroburg Police Station and talk to them
about the cave in Egret Brook. Go there, (it is the area where you
first fought the Killer Elephants Don Elephant. Enter the cave,
and then fight the old man in there. He's pretty hard since the
place is small. My advice is to stay far away from him and
use the boomerang arm.
6) This guy is in a small island in Lake Luminoso. It is
somewhere near Meme Village.
7) To find this guy, you need to find the other 6 Sages.
This guy is in the Northeast side of Nefroburg,
right next to the canal. You will see two cats sitting by a
treasure chest. Talk to the black cat, and
feed it so that the Sage will appear.
************************
Name: Blue Bolt
Appearance: A blue plate with half a skull on one side and a lightning bolt
on the other.
Missable: Yes
Path-To-Take: Hero or villain, but mostly Hero
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: You need to talk to Fennel at the Station Hotel in Happy
Garland about his music. Then go over to the music store near
Lobster Inn and speak to the owner there about the new instrument.
Then head on over to the GTW Factory. Take the back door of the
City Motors building. Go upstairs and speak to the mechanic.
Ask about the new instrument and he'll want 3 things: a guitar,
a mini generator, and a mini engine. You can buy the guitar at
the music store, and you receive the engine from Ciboulette (that
is, if you still haven't chosen the Villain path and joined the
Bloody Mantis). The generator is right outside of Neuhafen.
Speak to the man by the river and he will want you to rid the
river of junk. Throw all of the junk away and speak to him again.
He will give you the generator. Now you can give all of the
items to the mechanic. He will give you the Electric Guitar.
Then speak to Fennel again and give him the guitar, he will
give you the Plate after a concert with him.
************************
Name: Meme Railroad
Appearance: A purple train on tracks.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: First you need to cross Lake Luminoso in Vision Ranch.
Meme Village is right across it. Speak to the mayor there and
he will want you to deliver a letter to the station master in
Nefroburg's train station. Deliver it to the man (he is in the
office) and tell him to extend tracks to Meme Village. Now you
need to equip your Trotmobile with a flatbed. Get some lumber
in the Cuckoo Forest or some Steel Beams in the GTW Factory
of Happy Garland. Then head to Vision Ranch. Speak to the workers
there working on the tracks, sell them the supplies and then wait
for a day. Return to Meme Village and there will be a boulder on
the tracks. Get rid of it and then speak to the mayor. He will
give you the Plate.
************************
Name: Lorimar
Appearance: Some water temple thing overlooking a sea of water.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Not-that-hard-just-tedious-like-the-ruins
How-To-Obtain: Okay, this is going to take you awhile to obtain.
I hope you like damp dark similar looking
hallways, because that is what you'll be seeing for quite awhile.
But this is worth it, because you will be
doing three tasks at the same time! The temple contains some
artifacts for the museum, you need those
for the Museum Plate. It also has gems, you need these for the
Desert Hornets Plate. And you are
obviously here for the Lorimar Plate. The temple is located
at Lake Luminoso. To get this one, you
will have to clear the dungeon many times. The artifacts
are located in the treasure boxes. You will be seeing
a lot of Moldy Bread and Rotten Fish after a while of dungeon
crawling, so get used to it. It took me about
25 level 3 dungeon runs before I found the Plate. Once the
dungeon is cleaned out of all its artifacts, you will
have to find its Plate in one of the treasure boxes.
Be sure to scavenge the 3rd floor, as that floor seems to
yield more artifacts than the others. And yes, I this was a
slightly modified version of my other paragraphs.
************************
Name: Desert Hornets
Appearance: The Desert Hornets' gang logo.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Medium-Hardish
How-To-Obtain: By now, you should have all of the gems after the three
dungeons If not, then go back to the dungeons and get all 12
gems. Remember that each dungeon has 4 different types of gems.
After you've gotten them all go to the Desert Hornets' base in
the Sabbia Desert. Go to Nora, she should be on the second floor
of the building. Then give her all 12 gems. After this,
she would give you the Plate and access to her room.
************************
Name: S Rank
Appearance: An 'S'.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Medium
How-To-Obtain: This one is pretty simple. All you have to do is get an
'S' Rank in the Arena. Or you can beat the UTC Tournament.
************************
Name: Quail Tunnel
Appearance: A mountain with a trail going through it.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: Visit the Happy Garland Police Station. If you can do this
quest, the game will give you the 'Ask about the Quail Tunnel
incident' when you talk to the cop behind the desk. Choose this,
then head over to the H. Garland Station. Speak to the
stationmaster there, in the office. Then once you are ready
speak to the man next door, he is standing next to a few
construction Trotmobiles. Then you will be sent to the Tunnel.
Here, you have to fight a boss. This boss should be easy since
when you are running low on health you can examine the cart
you used to enter the Tunnel in order to refill your bars.
After you've beaten the Steam Village boss you will be rewarded
with the Plate.
Note: I believe that this is also part of the Villain side of
the story.
************************
Name: Hot Springs
Appearance: An outline of a hot spring with lines that resemble vapors.
Missable: No
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty-To-Obtain: Easy
How-To-Obtain: To get this you first have to get the mission where you
transport Mallow from Neuhafen to Eurydika. Once there you will
fight Dudley, and he will accidentally uncover some hot springs
in the back of town after the battle. Talk to the Gold Miner
standing besides the springs and speak to him until he decides
to make a resort. He will tell you to get some lumber, so go
to Cuckoo Forest and buy some from the man in the Trot (he is
in an area nearby the group of Triclops). Once you've
given the man some lumber he will give you the Plate.
If you are going through the Villain Path, you have to finish
the game first. Then, if you visit Eurydika, you will see Dudley
waiting for you. Talk to him to start the battle.
************************

in the path you took. The ones available in the other path
will be unlocked once you've beaten the game. Just be sure that
you fight Connie once you meet her at Seagull Beach (THIS IS
YOUR ONLY CHANCE TO FIGHT HER!) Then save your game and exit to
the Main Screen. Choose the 'Battle Mode' option and then load your
file. Next, choose the 'Death Match' option. You will have to fight
all 32 fighters in one go in order to get this Plate, good luck!

according to SonicEdge7:
"It essentially looks like a bronze nautilus shell."
Intriguing...
Missable: Yes
Path-To-Take: Hero or Villain
Difficulty: Extremely Hard (Ugh... Wonderful... Wonderful Glitches.)
How-To-Obtain: You have to find all artifacts and donate them
to Belmond in Nefroburg's Museum to get this one. There are
2 types of stratums in the game. You have you to have a flatbed in
order to carry the fossils you find. And a Wide Flatbed for the
bigger fossils. There are small stratums in Wagtail Canyon, and
later in the game (after the Millamotive boss) there will be
big stratums. And behind Martlett Falls there are also these two
types of stratums, each beside the archaeologists. And then there
are the artifacts in the 3 dungeons.
NOTE: Apparently there is a glitch that causes certain artifacts to disappear.
And there is another one I've experienced that causes Belmondo to not give
you the Plate at all.
ANOTHER NOTE: SonicEdge7 says:
"Apparently, you must complete the museum quest before you complete
the game (before the Year After mode) while avoiding the Fenns Ruins
glitch in order to avoid the potential museum glitch."

[3) Make Your Own] (xxmakexx)
If you've read the manual for the game you should know that you can make
your own personal Plates. There are up to 4 Plates you can make. The game
provides you with a canvas made up of squares. It's kind of like pixel art.
So if you've ever drawn a sprite you should know what to expect. Although
the number of colors available is somewhat limited.
Here are some tips you should follow (but don't need to, just my
recommendations):
- Find the center of the canvas before you start, it makes it a lot
easier for you to choose where you want to place you drawing.
- Make a rough draft of it using a dark color before you start coloring it.
- Once you are done with the rough draft, you should outline it using a
lighter or darker version of the drawings main color. It makes the
drawing stand out more. At least, that's what I do...
