I. Introduction
---------------------------------------------------------------------
What would Steambot Chronicles, the entertaining adventure from Irem
and Atlus, be without its one-on-one trotmobile battles? This guide
is intended to be a comprehensive repository of all information
related to arena fighting and arena-style battles, from the basics of
gambling to trotmobile gladiator profiles to the bonus Deathmatch
Mode. Please be advised that there are spoilers for story events in
this guide: do not read about any arenas you have not visited or any
gladiators you have not encountered if you do not wish to be spoiled.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
II. Arena Basics
---------------------------------------------------------------------
There are three arenas to be found in Steambot Chronicles, one in each
of its three cities. Each arena is populated by a number of
trotmobile gladiators who battle there in order to entertain the
crowd. Shortly after you enter Nefroburg for the first time, you will
be approached by the owner of the Nefroburg Arena, given a license
as an official Rank D battler, and booked to fight your first
trotmobile battle (against "Bomberhead" Chucky). When you next visit
an arena (and each time thereafter), you can fight the whole lineup
of gladiators available at that time of day: just speak to the front
desk receptionist and select "Trotmobile Battle" from the menu. You
will need to pay an entry fee to battle each gladiator (the size of the
fee is directly proportional to the fighter's rank), and you will earn
a number of victory medals if you win the fight (again, the number of
V-medals you earn is directly proportional to your opponent's rank).
Victory medals are redeemable for prizes at each arena's Prize
Exchange, and the total number of V-medals you've earned during the
course of the game is used to calculate your rank progression:
D Rank = 0 medals (default)
C Rank = 8 medals
B Rank = 50 medals
A Rank = 200 medals
S Rank = 500 medals*
* you may advance straight to this rank by winning the Ultimate
Trotmobile Championship during that story event.
Note that you may not challenge any arena gladiator unless your arena
rank is equal to or higher than the rank of your opponent. Arena
fights take place four times a day: morning, noon, evening, night.
Many gladiators will only appear during certain times of the day.
Also, if you fight or wager at an arena, time will pass when you leave
the arena (unless you fight or wager at night), meaning that you may
not fight in two or more arenas during the same time of day (since
time passes whenever you enter one of the three cities) except during
night. Curiously, if you fight/wager at an arena at night, leave
the city, and enter an arena in another city, you will reset the
"memory" of your arena activity in the city you left -- if you return
to that city and enter the arena, you will be allowed to battle or
wager again--as if you have not done so already that night (this
scenario only applies at night, since time will pass if you do this
during any other time of day, and each arena will become available
for battling/wagering because it's a new time of day). This quirk
in gameplay can be exploited through short transits from Happy Garland
to Neuhafen, enabling an astute player to stockpile large amounts of
victory medals and/or gambling proceeds during the same night
(game-time wise). For a complete list of arena gladiators, as well
as where/when to find them, see section IV.
You may also wager on bouts involving other trotmobile riders at
any arena. Each rider will carry a number labeled "odds", which
represents the bet:payout ratio if that rider should win the match.
Odds are calculated depending on how much better or worse than his/her
opponent each trot rider is, using his/her rank as the primary
indicator. Unlike you, other trotmobile gladiators do not advance
in ranks, so the odds of a given matchup will stay constant from the
beginning of the game to the end. Choose "Wager" from the arena
menu to place your bets on a given matchup: highlight the rider you
wish to bet on and hit Square to activate the bet counter, where you
can adjust the size of your bet. Your maximum wager on any given
matchup is determined by your arena rank, up to a maximum of 700 UR
per rider if you are Rank S (1000 UR if you are the National Champion
following the Ultimate Trotmobile Championship). You may not wager
on both combatants in a given matchup. Once you've made your bets,
press X to bring up the "Watch Battle" screen, where you can decide
whether or not to watch the matches you're betting on (you can watch
a match in which you have no financial stake whatsoever as well).
Watching the battle pits the two CPU players in a match of AI routines
and trotmobile equipment; on the other hand, if you do not watch the
battle, the game will calculate a result through a pseudo-random
number generator based on the odds. These disparate result-calculation
methods can lead to startlingly different results: for example,
based on the odds, Chucky has an approximately 1-in-100 chance of
defeating Schneider (and earning you a huge profit) if you do not watch
the battle; if you do watch the battle, Chucky will never win -- his
trotmobile lacks the HP and weapons for him to even compete against
Schneider. Of course, there are also situations in which a fighter
will do much better than his odds suggest if you watch the battle; one
such matchup is the subject of section VI.
If either Connie or Savory is accompanying you when you fight at the
Nefroburg Arena, you will get a short cutscene prior to each battle
showing the girl entering the spectator stands to cheer you on. This
has no story or sidequest relevance whatsoever.
Arena battles play out in much the same way as any other fight sequence
you encounter in the game. As a refresher, the trotmobile controls
pertinent to arena battles are as follows:
Left analog - controls movement for left leg.
Right analog - controls movement for right leg.
Left analog UP - walk forward and to the right.
Left analog DOWN - walk backward and to the right.
Right analog UP - walk forward and to the left.
Right analog DOWN - walk backward and to the left.
Either analog LEFT - walk to the left.
Either analog RIGHT - walk to the right.
Either analog DOWN - walk backwards.
Both analogs [Direction] - run in that direction.
Left analog UP, right analog DOWN - turn your trotmobile to the right.
Left analog DOWN, right analog UP - turn your trotmobile to the left.
Left analog RIGHT, right analog LEFT - guard.
Left analog LEFT, right analog RIGHT - activate Explosion back frame
(only if equipped).
Shake both analogs UP and DOWN - Throw escape.
L1 button - left arm attack.
R1 button - right arm attack.
L2 button - dash.
R2 button - jump.
L3 button - pick up object with left arm.
R3 button - pick up object with right arm.
L1 + L2 buttons - fire Explosion back frame (only if equipped and
activated).
Square button - lock on to an enemy (if in visual range).
Circle button - switch to first-person view.
START button - pause the game.
Each arena gladiator has his/her own trotmobile configuration and
equipment, therefore strategies to defeating them vary depending on
the rider in question. However, there are two strategies that work
universally well and efficiently against almost all riders:
1) Use the Bazooka Arm. The Bazooka Arm is an arena prize you may
purchase at the Nefroburg Arena for 300 medals. Each arm has 15
shots' worth of ammunition, although you only need 5-10 to finish
off your enemy. The Bazooka Arm is the deadliest arena weapon in
the game because of its "knockback" feature: if you connect with
a bazooka, your opponent will be sent flying backwards. When he
or she lands, he/she will be stunned, and it will take her a couple
of precious seconds to recover. This is enough time for you to run
forward, re-establish your lock-on if you need to, and launch another
bazooka at your opponent, sending him/her flying again. Run/dash
forward again, re-establish your lock-on, and launch another bazooka.
Repeat until your opponent is defeated. If you do this correctly,
he/she will never even get out of stun animation again once you've
landed the first bazooka hit.
2) Use the Headbutt of Doom. That's my name for a peculiar (glitch?)
property of your trotmobile. Namely, an ability to throw your
opponent off a wall, position your trotmobile so that the thrown
opponent lands on your head, and then just wait until your opponent
eventually dies (as long as you do not allow them to hit the ground;
if they do hit the ground, you will find that, strangely, they did
not take any damage from being juggled on your head, despite the fact
that if you'd kept them juggled, they invariably die). This works
against all enemies that you can throw, and arena gladiators are no
exception. Some of the strong fighters (such as Elder and Schneider),
however, will seldom allow themselves to be thrown -- they will
immediately execute a throw escape when you pick them up. After you
engineer the Throwing Arm, it becomes easier to pick up and throw all
opponents, even tough cookies such as Elder and Schneider.
If you do not have a Bazooka Arm and find the Headbutt of Doom hard to
master, a simple and effective strategy against most gladiators is to
pick them up, throw them, then hit them with melee weapons while they
attempt to get up. Note that your ability to throw enemies is related
to your Body frame class and your trotmobile weight, so be sure to
engineer and equip a Normal Body L before engaging in arena bouts. If
you do not have and cannot afford a Normal Body L, try picking up the
objects strewn across the arena floor and flinging them at your
adversary -- these objects do massive damage upon impact, although it
can be hard to hit an elusive opponent with them. If you do not wish to
do any throwing in your battles, the Gatling Arm, Trident Arm, Blade Arm,
and Iron Club are particularly effective weapons to use in trotmobile
battles.
In order to achieve success in arena fights, speed is also a mandatory
requirement, as you need to move fast and dodge faster. Be sure to equip
a speedy leg frame -- such as the Powered Human Legs, Powered Bird Legs,
Four-Wheeler, and Six-Wheeler -- before wading into the arena fray.
Success at arena battles may cause your nickname to change the next day.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
III. Battle Mode
---------------------------------------------------------------------
After you fight your first arena battle against Chucky, the "Battle"
option will appear on the start menu. Initially, you can only fight
single matches against a CPU opponent you've already fought during
the actual game, or fight against a friend using the trotmobiles of
opponents you've already unlocked. After you beat the game and
unlock all 32 available trotmobile gladiators, however, you will be
allowed to fight in Deathmatch Mode.
In Deathmatch mode, you will fight against all 32 trotmobile gladiators
in order, until you either quit the mode or lose a battle. You
cannot save your progress until you either quit or lose, meaning that,
if you wish to obtain all three prizes available from Deathmatch Mode,
you must defeat all 32 gladiators before quitting the mode. Prizes
available in Deathmatch are as follows:
Support Engine (back frame) - obtained by defeating 10 fighters in a row
Skull Grill (grill frame) - obtained by defeating 20 fighters in a row
Deathmatch license plate - obtained by defeating all 32 fighters
Unlike in-game arena/arena-style fights, your HP and FP do NOT refill
to full automatically at the end of each Deathmatch battle. Instead,
you will receive a health/fuel refill and arm repairs if you defeat
your opponent in a certain amount of time:
Under 15 seconds - Large HP, Fuel, Arm Repair
Under 30 seconds - Normal HP, Fuel, Arm Repair*
Under 45 seconds - Normal HP, Fuel, Arm Repair*
Under 60 seconds - Small HP, Fuel, Arm Repair
Over 60 seconds - no service
* though labeled the same, you receive more repairs for beating your
opponent under 30 seconds than under 45 seconds.
Due to the nature of Deathmatch battles, you're advised to learn quick,
efficient methods of winning arena-style fights (such as the two
methods outlined in section II).
See section IV for a complete listing of all fighters available for
Deathmatch Mode and how to unlock them.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
IV. Character Profiles
---------------------------------------------------------------------
These are listed in order of appearance during Deathmatch Mode. Most
of the arena fighters found in the actual game are fought during the
first twenty bouts of Deathmatch Mode. The "unlocked" entry explains
how to unlock each character for Battle Mode.

Arena Rank: D
Fights at: Nefroburg Arena
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night

Cannon Arm
Claw Arm
[No grill frame]
Basket
Roof Windshield
Unlocked: Fight at Nefroburg Arena.
Difficulty: **
Notes: She can do some damage with her Cannon Arm and Claw Arm (in
a pinch), but you can throw her around and melee attack her
with impunity.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
3. "Storm Harvester" Farmer
Trotmobile Name: Best Harvest
Arena Rank: D
Fights at: Nefroburg Arena (after being unlocked), Downstream
Egret Brook farmhouse
Fights during: Morning (Nefroburg Arena), Night (if you try to steal

in order to protect those he cares for.
Trotmobile Equipment: Agriculture Body

Unlocked: Go to the farm at Egret Brook, Downstream at night. Enter
the left-hand side field closest to the farmhouse and
attempt to steal some Egret Potatoes.
Difficulty: *
Notes: He'll get a couple of hits on you with his Watergun, but the
thing does next to no damage, and he has very little defense.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
4. "Tipsy Battler" Jack
Trotmobile Name: Buzz Master
Arena Rank: D
Fights at: Neuhafen Arena
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night
Entry Fee: 30 UR

Bird Legs S
Normal Arm
Scrap Arm
Neon Grill
[No back frame]
Bunny Roof
Unlocked: Fight at Neuhafen Arena.
Difficulty: **
Notes: He's more aggressive than the other Rank D fighters, but he
lacks good weapons and doesn't have enough HP to really
challenge.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
5. "Strong Arm" Sampson
Trotmobile Name: Giant Sam
Arena Rank: D
Fights at: Garland Arena
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night
Entry Fee: 35 UR

looking at him, he's tough.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body L
Caterpillar
Buzzsaw Arm
Throwing Arm
Light Grill
Wide Basket
Windshield
Unlocked: Fight at Neuhafen Arena.
Difficulty: *******
Notes: Sampson is slower than molasses and has no ranged weapons, so
why does he get a 7-star threat rating? Because he's got a
Throwing Arm. It's very difficult to escape him if he picks
you up, and it hurts like heck when he chucks you. Try to
fight him at a distance.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
6. "Funky Barber" Simon
Trotmobile Name: Battle Clipper
Arena Rank: C
Fights at: Neuhafen Arena
Fights during: Night
Entry Fee: 50 UR
V-Medals: 6
Profile: Don't touch the fro! Nothing can undo his 'do,' not even
the heat of battle.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body L
Caterpillar
Claw Arm
Claw Arm
Faceguard
Wide Basket
[No roof frame]
Unlocked: Fight at Neuhafen Arena.
Difficulty: ****
Notes: He can deal a lot more damage than the Rank D fighters with
his two Claw Arms, but by the time you face him, you should
have enough experience to run circles around his slow Trot.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
7. "The Burning Firefighter" Rooney
Trotmobile Name: Fire Engine 02
Arena Rank: C
Fights at: Nefroburg Arena
Fights during: Noon, Evening, Night; all day on Saturday and Sunday
Entry Fee: 70 UR
V-Medals: 7
Profile: The only fire he can't put out is the flame of justice
burning within his heart.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body M
Normal Legs M
Watergun
Watergun
Light Kit
Tank W
Windshield
Unlocked: Fight at Nefroburg Arena.
Difficulty: ***
Notes: He is mildly threatening on the rare occasion he picks up
objects and tries to chuck them at you, but he's usually
content to shoot his pathetic Waterguns at you, which makes him
an easy win.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
8. "Weakling" Jimmy
Trotmobile Name: Olive Tortoise
Arena Rank: C
Fights at: Garland Arena
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night
Entry Fee: 80 UR
V-Medals: 6
Profile: An errant Nefroburg gladiator, his time abroad has honed
and developed his skill.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body S
Human Legs M
Normal Arm
Shield Arm
Light Grill
Basket
Roof Windshield
Unlocked: Automatically during the storyline.
Difficulty: ****
Notes: Originally a major wuss, Jimmy becomes much more aggressive
after you restore his confidence. He is better at guarding
than any of the previous fighters thanks to his Shield Arm.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
9. "Bodyguard" Sudou
Trotmobile Name: Nameless
Arena Rank: C
Fights at: Garland Arena
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night
Entry Fee: 80 UR
V-Medals: 8
Profile: A calm and stoic gladiator whose quick reflexes and
sword-arm overwhelm most opponents.
Trotmobile Equipment: Agriculture Body
Bird Legs S
Scrap Arm
Blade Arm
[No grill frame]
[No back frame]
Kabuto Roof
Unlocked: Fight at Garland Arena.
Difficulty: *****
Notes: Sudou has very little HP, but be careful of his Blade Arm --
it swings quickly and deals a lot of damage. If you try to
pick him off from afar, he'll annoyingly try to chuck
everything in the arena at you.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
10. "Proud Sailor" Miguel
Trotmobile Name: Neptunus
Arena Rank: B
Fights at: Neuhafen Arena
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night
Entry Fee: 160 UR
V-Medals: 20
Profile: He fights to one day restore the Juniper-Berry, on which he
used to serve.
Trotmobile Equipment: Water Resistant M
Human Legs M
Spiked Ball
Watergun
Buffalo Grill
Float
Windshield
Unlocked: Fight at Neuhafen Arena.
Difficulty: ******
Notes: His Spiked Ball arm is a dangerous weapon to contend with, but
he has less HP than other Rank B fighters because of his
equipping the Water Resistant M body frame. His trotmobile is
the retrofitted version of the one you used (as Mallow) in the
tutorial.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
11. "Hot-Blooded Cop" Bernard
Trotmobile Name: World Super Police
Arena Rank: B
Fights at: Neuhafen Arena
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening
Entry Fee: 220 UR
V-Medals: 25
Profile: He lives to serve and protect. The arena is part of his
patrol route.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body S
Human Legs S
Tonfa Arm
Flamethrower
Light Pod Grill
Flatbed
Police Windshield
Unlocked: Fight at Neuhafen Arena.
Difficulty: *******
Notes: Beware of Bernard. His Flamethrower and Tonfa Arm give him
a major dose of offensive firepower. Evade frequently and
close in for the kill after he fires off a Flamethrower burst.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
12. "Fighting Surgeon" Genius
Trotmobile Name: Clever Fool
Arena Rank: B
Fights at: Garland Arena
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night
Entry Fee: 200 UR
V-Medals: 25
Profile: An active surgeon from the hospital, he uses his training to
make sharp, calculated attacks.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body M
Human Legs M
Cannon Arm
Bazooka Arm
Light Kit
Carriage
Roll Bar
Unlocked: Fight at Garland Arena.
Difficulty: ******
Notes: Genius owns a Bazooka Arm, but he does not use it effectively
at all. Since he uses two ranged weapons, he tries to play
"keep away" a lot: if you can close in on him for a throw or
a melee arm combo, he's pretty much toast.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
13. "Mr. K.O." Guerrero
Trotmobile Name: The King
Arena Rank: A
Fights at: Neuhafen Arena
Fights during: Evening, Night
Entry Fee: 280 UR
V-Medals: 60
Profile: Neuhafen's creme de la brawlers. Nothing can stop him,
not even his hot dog stand's low sales.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body L
Human Legs M
Ball-and-Chain
Ball-and-Chain
Light Grill
Carriage
[No roof frame]
Unlocked: Fight at Neuhafen Arena.
Difficulty: ********
Notes: His twin Ball-and-Chain arms pack a punch. He is also quick
to escape from throw attempts and has been known to close in
on you for a counter-throw.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
14. "Razor-Edge Captain" Ciboulette
Trotmobile Name: Great Sailing
Arena Rank: A
Fights at: Neuhafen Arena (only after you beat the game)
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night
Entry Fee: 220 UR
V-Medals: 40
Profile: She hides compassion behind her harsh words. She's a true
captain who deserves respect and trust from her crew.
Trotmobile Equipment: Water Resistant M
Bird Legs M
Cannon Arm
Shield Arm
Light Grill
Float
Roof Windshield
Unlocked: Fight at Neuhafen Arena (after you beat the game).
Difficulty: *******
Notes: Her weaponry is substandard for a Rank A battler. Her
tactics make up for some of her equipment shortcomings,
as she is fond of charging in to attempt to throw you.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
15. "Empress" Saffron
Trotmobile Name: Iron Will
Arena Rank: A
Fights at: Garland Arena
Fights during: Night
Entry Fee: 300 UR
V-Medals: 90
Profile: A mysterious female fighter who seeks to have all men
bowing at her feet.
Trotmobile Equipment: Water Resistant M
Powered Bird Legs
Whip Arm
Normal Arm
Mask Grill
Tank
Bunny Roof
Unlocked: Fight at Garland Arena.
Difficulty: ********
Notes: Her Whip Arm is one of the most powerful weapons in the
game, but unfortunately, she does not have much HP.
Try to block her Whip attacks and throw her while she's
in her recovery animation.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
16. "Gluttonous" (Ex-)Boss Elephant
Trotmobile Name: Mad Elephant
Arena Rank: A
Fights at: Nefroburg Arena
Fights during: Evening, Night
Entry Fee: 280 UR
V-Medals: 80
Profile: The (Ex-)Boss of the Killer Elephants. Despite his eating
habits, his abilities are off the charts.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body L
Horse Legs
Spiked Ball
Spiked Ball
Elephant Grill
Carriage
Roll Bar
Unlocked: Automatically during the storyline.
Difficulty: ********
Notes: Watch out for his Spiked Ball attacks. He is one of
the most durable fighters in the game, so be patient
and pick him off with long-range attacks if you can.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
17. "Hero of Nefroburg" Schneider
Trotmobile Name: Maximum
Arena Rank: S
Fights at: Nefroburg Arena
Fights during: Night
Entry Fee: 600 UR
V-Medals: 200
Profile: Schneider is a living legend in the Arena. His numerous
scars pay tribute to a long life of battle.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body M
Powered Bird Legs
Iron Club
Shield Arm SS
Spiked Grill S
Explosion
Special Roll Bar
Unlocked: Fight at Nefroburg Arena or during the storyline (UTC).
Difficulty: **********
Notes: Schneider is, with Elder, one of the two hardest enemies
in the game. He will dash all around the arena, chuck
things at you, and likes to rush in and throw you for half
of the match. Try to keep away from him and hit him with a
bazooka shot while he's stuck in the middle of his lifting
animation as he tries to throw an object at you. During the
game, you can speak to him each time you advance a rank (at
the Bar Aphrodite in Nefroburg during morning - evening)
to learn a little more about his past. Speak to him after
you advance to Rank S and he will give you the Spiked Grill S
frame.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
18. "Brawler of the Fort" Dudley
Trotmobile Name: Red Tarantula
Arena Rank: N/A
Fights at: N/A
Fights during: N/A
Entry Fee: N/A
V-Medals: N/A
Profile: A dirty fighter who relies on brutal and unfair tactics.
He lives for getting booed.
Trotmobile Equipment: (Varies; Deathmatch Mode setup below)
Normal Body L
Spider Legs
Sword Arm
Spiked Ball
Buffalo Grill
Tank W
Roof Windshield
Unlocked: Automatically during the storyline.
Difficulty: *******
Notes: Dudley's equipment changes during each fight you have against
him during the storyline. His Deathmatch configuration is
effective in mid-range combat, so either use a throw-and-melee
strategy or decimate him with long-range attacks.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
19. "Desert Crimson" Nora
Trotmobile Name: Crimson
Arena Rank: N/A
Fights at: N/A
Fights during: N/A
Entry Fee: N/A
V-Medals: N/A
Profile: The leader of the Desert Hornets uses gatling arms to
eliminate all who oppose her.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body S
Bird Legs M
Blade Arm
Gatling Arm
Crescent Grill
Support Engine
Vine Roof
Unlocked: Obtain all twelve types of gemstones from the dungeons and
give them to her as presents.
Difficulty: *********
Notes: Nora is fast and has the powerful Gatling Arm. Try to dodge
her Gatling fire and close in to melee her with powerful
attacks. She will allow you to enter her room and claim your
own Gatling Arm frame if you defeat her in the game.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
20. "Fisher on the Lake" McCartney
Trotmobile Name: Fisher Blitz
Arena Rank: N/A
Fights at: Meme Village (at least one day after completing the Meme
Railroad quest)
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night (once per day)
Entry Fee: N/A
V-Medals: N/A
Profile: A Meme Village fisherman who uses his keen instincts to
track opponents.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body S
Bird Legs M
Boomerang Arm
Normal Arm
Light Kit
Basket
[No roof frame]
Unlocked: Challenge him at Meme Village (at least one day after the
completion of the railroad to Meme Village).
Difficulty: ***
Notes: None of the Meme Village denizens are tough trotmobile riders,
as they all have low HP and substandard equipment (except for
Margarita's Bowgun Arm). He will be available to sell you
Fish (the trade good) for the rest of the day if you defeat
him in the game.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
21. "Mid-Life Fighter" Mainz
Trotmobile Name: Scapegoat
Arena Rank: N/A
Fights at: Meme Village
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night (once per day)
Entry Fee: N/A
V-Medals: N/A
Profile: He makes his living off of goats and sheep. He's also a
warm and loving father.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body S
Human Legs S
Sword Arm
Normal Arm
Light Kit
Basket
[No roof frame]
Unlocked: Challenge him at Meme Village (at least one day after the
completion of the railroad to Meme Village).
Difficulty: ***
Notes: Like McCartney, Mainz lacks HP and firepower. He will offer
to sell you Milk (the trade good) at a discounted rate for the
rest of the day if you beat him in the game.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
22. "Shipwright Madonna" Margarita
Trotmobile Name: Craftsmanship
Arena Rank: N/A
Fights at: Meme Village
Fights during: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night (once per day)
Entry Fee: N/A
V-Medals: N/A
Profile: A shipwright of Meme Village. Although her location makes
it tough to find parts, she's very competitive.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body M
Human Legs S
Blade Arm
Normal Arm
Light Kit
Flatbed
Windshield
Unlocked: Challenge her at Meme Village (at least one day after the
completion of the railroad to Meme Village).
Difficulty: *****
Notes: Even though she also lacks HP and quality parts, Margarita does
possess the dangerous Blade Arm, which can do quite a bit of
damage to you if you're not careful. She will give you a
Blade Arm frame the first time you defeat her in the game.

allow you entry to the cave when he examines your rank.
Go to the cave and challenge the old man.
Difficulty: *******
Notes: His equipment gives him good HP and not much else, but he's
sneaky good at blocking your attacks, and the unusual layout
of his lair could cause some problems. When you defeat him
for the first time, he will give you the Bubble Roof frame.

careful not to absorb any direct hits from his Long-Range
Cannon.

Unlocked: Most likely unlocked by beating the game. Fight him during
the Sabbia Desert battleship duel (in the villain path) to

much HP.

from the dialogue options.

Notes: The Earl Grey I is similar in power to your trotmobile at the
start of the game, so it's neither durable nor strong. Connie
will, however, repeatedly attempt to throw you, which increases
her threat level.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
28. "Shadow Lord" Sarriette

Arena Rank: N/A
Fights at: N/A
Fights during: N/A

unless you see an opening you could exploit. She is not an
easily thrown character unless you have the Throwing Arm
equipped.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Unlocked: Automatically after the penultimate fight of the hero path
storyline.
Difficulty: ********
Notes: Bergamot is a tank. He's got loads of HP and packs a wallop.
Do not try to outlast him in a melee battle -- instead try to
evade his attacks and counter-attack with ranged weapons or
rush in to throw him (if you have the Throwing Arm equipped).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
30. "Scientech" Dr. Nutmeg
Trotmobile Name: Mecha Lab
Arena Rank: N/A
Fights at: N/A

Doctor Arm
[No grill frame]
[No back frame]
[No roof frame]
Unlocked: Automatically during the "Steal Blueprints" mission during
the villain path; otherwise, you fight him after visiting
him for the "Find Connie" subquest of the post-game.
Difficulty: *********
Notes: This "trotmobile" is actually Dr. Nutmeg's entire garage, so
you can expect it to pack a giant wallop. It's also hard to
evade him in the Deathmatch battle, as the dimensions of the
Garland Arena are much smaller than those of the vast expanses
at Vision Ranch. Try to stay out of his reach and lob objects
at him.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
31. "First Champion" Ginger
Trotmobile Name: Black Odyssey
Arena Rank: N/A
Fights at: Nefroburg Waterway
Fights during: Night (once per day)

that title to Elder, the White Phantom.
Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body M
Human Flippers
Trident Arm
Boomerang Arm
Light Pod Grill
Wide Float
Fin Roof
Unlocked: Hear about Ginger by talking to Schneider in Nefroburg.
After Vladimir returns to his Real Estate agency, speak
to him about Ginger. Then speak to the homeless man in
the underpass behind the Nefroburg Museum. Say that you
want to learn "mad trotmobile skillz" and he will tell you
to meet him at the waterway at night. Go to the Slope to
Waterway in Nefroburg at night and follow the waterway
until you reach a dead end. Turn down the passage to your
right and you will find Ginger ready to fight you.
Difficulty: *********
Notes: Ginger has a couple of terrific weapons in the Boomerang Arm
and the Trident Arm. He will try to keep you at arm's length
so that he can work you over with his powerful midrange weapons.
You can try rushing at him, but he will escape out of throw
attempts and try to counter-throw. The best thing to do is to
evade and wait for an opening to bazooka him. After you beat
him in the game, he will give you the Fin Roof frame.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
32. "White Phantom" Elder
Trotmobile Name: Requiem
Arena Rank: S (UTC Champion)
Fights at: Garland Arena
Fights during: Night

Trotmobile Equipment: Normal Body M
Powered Bird Legs
Excalibur
Long-Range Cannon
Spiked Grill E
Support Engine
Elder Windshield
Unlocked: Fight at Garland Arena or fight him during the UTC story
event.
Difficulty: **********
Notes: Probably the toughest battle in the game, Elder moves with
blinding speed. He will try to hit you with Long-Range Cannon
shots, but if you close in on him or he runs out of ammo, he
will take out his mighty Excalibur and deal you some major pain.
Try to get lucky with a Bazooka shot or equip the Throwing
Arm and give him a Headbutt of Doom.

VI. Gambling for Millions
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you're able to fight/wager at the Happy Garland Arena regularly
(i.e. after you dispense with your GlobeTrotter commitments in
Neuhafen), it's time to seriously scoop up the dough by gambling at
the Garland Arena. While it is possible to make lots of money wagering
at the Nefroburg Arena early in the game (which I did), it's not
advisable, as you'll spend hours fighting enough to get to S Rank (so
that you get your max wager up to 700 UR per match) and even more hours
trying to get the 69930 UR-payoff from betting on someone with 99.9:1.1
odds of winning the match (on average, you lose that bet 100 times
before you win one). That all changes by the time you reach the Garland
Arena, where there are a couple of ways to make a fistful of quick cash,
both of which involve the gladiator "Strong Arm" Sampson.
1) Enter the Arena and do not fight or wager immediately. Instead, go
to the second floor and enter the spectator stands. There is a man
in black standing in the shadow of the staircase to your right: speak
to him. He will introduce himself as a "bookie" offering illegal,
tax-free wagers. If you agree to wager with him, he'll tell you that
the wager is on the fate of Sampson during his next match. You can
pick Sampson to either win or lose. He will then ask you how much
you wish to bet: bet 10000 UR (if you have it) for the maximum payoff.
The easy way to win this wager is to make sure that Sampson is matched
up against a gladiator he has long odds against (Genius, Saffron,
Fennel, Elder), put your money on "He'll lose.", and then go back to
the front desk and choose "Wager" and press X (to let the game
calculate the results; do NOT choose to watch the battle). After
Sampson loses, go and speak to the bookie again and he'll give you
double the amount of your wager for winning your bet. You can wager
in this way once everyday (hence, you can make 10000 UR everyday this
way). Note that the bookie is not present during the morning.
2) For an even bigger payoff, go to Happy Garland at night. Save at
the Garland Station parking lot and enter the arena. Go to the front
desk and choose "Wager" to see the matchups. Load your game if you
do not get the Sampson vs. Saffron matchup. Once you do, go up to the
third floor and save at the parking cone there. Now go down to the
front desk, place your maximum wager (1000 UR if you've won the UTC,
which you should've done by this point) on Sampson, and choose to
watch the battle. Due to his high HP and Throwing Arm, as well as
Saffron's own lack of HP, Sampson will win this matchup at least once
in every four tries (much better than his odds will suggest); load
your game until he does. When he wins, you'll receive a 51.8-times
payout (51800 UR if you placed a bet of 1000 UR). You can also go
to the bookie and choose "he'll win" before wagering at the front
desk for up to 10000 UR in additional earnings. Since arena battles
reset themselves whenever you enter an arena in another town, you
can make quick trips back and forth between Neuhafen and Happy
Garland to win multiple Sampson--Saffron wagers in the same night
(the bookie, however, can be used only once; he does not reset
until a day passes). I was able to make over 2 million UR this way.
Note that Sampson has an even bigger potential payoff against Elder;
however, Saffron is the only gladiator (who's higher ranked than
him) that he can defeat regularly, as he'll often fight the likes
of Genius, Fennel, and Elder to a draw but turn out to be too slow
to finish them off before the time limit is up. Stick to the
Sampson--Saffron matchup for sure earnings.
