1. Introduction
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings and welcome to my FAQ. This FAQ is a little different than a
lot of the guides one will see out there, in that it is really just a
collection of translations. I feel that this works well for this particular
game, since there are no correct answers or right way to go about something.
Of course, this FAQ will hopefully cover the entire game in detail eventually,
but I have decided to focus on helping people who do not speak Japanese well or
even at all play this game. This guide does not assume any Japanese knowledge
whatsoever. It will hopefully be detailed enough that anyone should be able to
enjoy the game. Of course, this game is not very linear, so how much of the
game that this FAQ will cover remains to be seen. The one thing that this FAQ
will assume from now on is that one will be able to recognize the characters
for yes and no. Yes and No will always be shown in that order in the game,
with "no" the default highlighted option. Yes and no in Japanese are Hai and
Iie respectively. If one remembers that the first two characters in Iie are
the same, it should not be to difficult to recognize which is which. Also, I
will always list options in the order that they appear, either left to right or
up to down. Another thing to point out to the new importer is that Japanese
games almost always use circle to confirm things and cross to cancel things.
This is reverse of what most North American games use. Now, with the
introductions aside, let the game begin... sort of...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1a. Things one may want to know
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will try to list things hear that would be considered common knowledge in
Japan, but not well-known in the western world that might help one understand
some of the themes in the game. A hungry ghost is an entity spoken about in
Buddhist scriptures as one of the several types of beings one may be reborn as.
One can become a hungry ghost in many different ways, but the most obvious one
is through the attachment to wealth, food, or perhaps a certain specific
object. These ghosts suffer from six afflictions; hunger, thirst, heat, cold,
exhaustion and fear. They are usually described as having large bodies
with tiny limbs, a small mouth and a long thin neck that may have knots.
Although they suffer from hunger and thirst and constantly search for food and
water, most hungry ghosts cannot drink or eat due to their small knotted necks.
An important point to make is that hungry ghosts were not good people during
their lives as humans; their suffering is due to their own afflictions. One
might consider this when deciding whether or not to help some of the
inhabitants of the game.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Intro Movie
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The intro movie plays when you first start the game, after the Sony and Deep
Space logos. It will also play again after showing the title screen for
a period of time. The following is the text that goes along with the intro.

Before you begin the game
The world of hungry ghosts is a world filled with many secrets.

During the course of you playing, things to discover, take and meet along your
path will change.

Therefore
Since the various choices that you decide cannot be redone, please be careful.

and finally,
through these actions, your final fate is waiting.

Fate...
One cannot escape it...
However... one can change it...

Why am I here?
I... What is this place?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3a. Enter the gate
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name your character, katakana is the the only script that you may use. You may
enter up to 8 characters for your name.

[Name selection screen]
The red kanji at the bottom left is "Contract".
The grey text next to it is, "Please enter your name"

The small text at the bottom of the screen is, "directional pads: select
character(letter), Circle: Confirm, Cross: return to title screen".

Should you press cross to return to the main screen, it will ask for
confirmation, "Returning to title screen, is this okay?(Yes/No).

Should one not enter any characters and press OK, it will enter the default
names depending on the sex of the character(Selectable from options), which is
Chris/Christine respectively.

Whether or not one enters a name or use the default, it will ask, "Is this name
okay?(Yes/No)". Upon selecting Yes, it will ask again, "Are you sure?(Yes/No)".

After entering a name the save screen will appear. There are three slots.

[Save selection screen]
The white kanji at the bottom left is "Record".
The grey text next to it is, "Please select a save file.
The default text next to a slot is, "File does not exist".
The text at the bottom is roughly the same as in the name selection screen.

Should one press cross to cancel, it will display, "Return/Continue without
saving". Return will take you back to the name screen, Continue without saving
will begin the game.

Upon selecting a slot, it will ask, "Saving File. Is this okay?(Yes/No)", it
will then state, "Saving... Please do not remove the memory card in slot#".
Next it will state, "Save completed", the text at the bottom says, "Circle:
continue".

The slot shows the character's name, elapsed time(00:00:00) and place, which at
the moment reads, "Fate's beginning".

After pressing circle to continue, the game begins...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3b. Continue
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The kanji at the bottom left is, "Unsealed letter/Breaking the seal(Gives the
impression of opening a letter)".

The grey text next to it is, "Please select a file to load".

The text at the bottom is roughly the same as the name selection and save
screens.

Once again the slots display the character's name, elapsed time and place.

Upon selecting a slot, it will ask, "Loading slot#, is this okay?(Yes/No)".
After confirming, it will display, "Loading, please do not remove memory card
in slot#".

The game will begin afterwards.

Should one press cross to cancel, it will return to the title screen.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3c. Options
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Change screen display (Used to remove health bars, etc. during game)
---------------------
The text at the top is, "Change screen display".
The text at the bottom is roughly the same as the other menus/selection
screens. One has three options to choose from, (Easy/Atmosphere/Status).

The white text close to the bottom says, "Change screen display". Next to it
is the actual selector, (Easy/Atmosphere/Status). Below it is the OK button.

[Easy]

this button to that respective action.

The actions in order of top to bottom and their defaults:

The final line is "OK".

The rest of the controls are listed on the left:

Left stick: Advance(move forward), rotate, select all sorts (of things)

The menu selections here are:
-Weapons
-Equipment items
-Usable items
-Descriptions of the past (Old accounts)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Fate's Beginning
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And so begins the game, you might want to take the time to get used to the
controls, they are not that great. Anyway, when you are ready walk to the
boat and get in. It would seem that you are not alone. You sudden feel a
presence behind you. When you look behind you, you are greeted by death. He
has voice audio and there is no way for me to get him to pause, so I will only
be able to tell you what he says and not a line by line like usual. He
explains that this river is the river that dead people cross to go to hell,
he laughs as he says "You have that why me look on your face". He will now
answer some questions. You always get two choices from top to bottom, the
question or "ask another question". On to the questions...

[Why me?]
He explains that you were a warrior who took many lives and that it was not
just a coincidence that the dead in the village of the dead were among your
victims and that they were calling you to the village.

[Village of the dead?]
He explains that across this river there is a village of the dead. The dead
there seek material wealth , etc. and that they are full of hate and sorrow.
They stay in the village waiting to go hell based on their fate.

[Fate?]
He explains that just like you, they (and you) are destined to wander in hell.
However there is only one way to change your fate. That is to go to the Gates
of Judgment and receive final judgment. If you want to be reborn as a human,
you will have to go there.

[Gates of Judgment]
Beyond the village of the dead are huge gates, these are the Gates of
Judgment, facing towards hell. Go there and you will probably be able to
change your fate.

[Change my fate?]
Those that remain in the village of the dead, If you can dig up the truth on
the deep connections (Karma) that you have with those ghosts, you probably can
change your fate. If you do not, you will probably spend all of eternity here.

After the questions, you will arrive at the gates of the village.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. The Cave to Hell
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: Obviously I will tell you what the notes say, so you might be tempted to
not pick them up. However, don't blame me if you go to hell because you didn't
read them. ;)

When you get on the dock, death will motion you into the room ahead. When you
get to the door and push the use button, you will be greeted with the use menu,
which usually only has two selections, the top one is for look and the bottom
one is to perform some action on it (open, push, etc). The text to the right
is always the same, "Which will you pick? Please choose carefully. It has the
possibility of pulling your fate one way or the other...". Anyway, upon
selecting open, you will be able to guide your hand to the door handle. This
may seem like a useless gimmick at first, but later you will have to be careful
when reaching out for something, I will let you figure out on your own what can
happen. In this room there are several barrels and three notes on the wall.
Death will be in front of the narrow passage ahead. You can break barrels with
your spear. The barrels closest to you on either side contain notes on aspects
of the controls and menus, as do the notes on the walls. The first of the two
barrels in a row to the right contains oil, which is of course flammable. The
second of the two contains a note. The last barrel on the right contains
water. You may note that the water also turned the oil into water. Now, you
cannot currently read the note on the left side because it is to dark. However
if you break the barrel next to it, which contains oil, the oil will ignite due
to the fire next to it. You can know read the note on the wall. Anyway, talk
to death to move to the next room. The village of the dead is also called the
village of judgment. Anything that you take, anything that you do, anything
that you meet and anything that you say, it is possible to find various
choices. Depending on this choices, it is possible to reveal hidden
connections. This will probably have a great effect on your fate. There is
not a lot to do in the next room. There are two memos on the walls and that is
it. Talk to death again and he will say, "You can change your set fate. If
you want to survive (long enough to do that), look for spirit fragments. These
spirit fragments, from the dead's malice, contain the power to survive. The
deeply entwined grudges probably have stronger fragments. Well, when you are
prepared you may continue. However, once you pass through these doors, you can
never come here again. You do not have regrets, do you? Very well, The choice
of fate... Use this key... You may choose a gift from me, but only one.". Pick
the key that he dropped and break the barrel in front. A chest will appear,
take a good look at it, because it is a special kind of chest that has items it
that could make a big difference in the end. Anyway, when you try to open it,
you will be presented with the item menu, where you can select the key. When
the chest is open, you will see the tooth of god, a set of arrows and an apple.
Pick up the tooth of god and head for the door. You should take a good look at
the door too, because it is a door of fate. Once you pass through a door like
this, you cannot go back. This door also has a seal on it, you cannot open it
without doing something. Fortunately, to open this door, all you have to do is
read the note on it. If you strike the door or use look on it, the seal will
tell you, "People want to repeat life, this is without a doubt, normal. Here,
it is different. By that choice, the future changes.". After reading the
note, open the door to go to the next area.

Notes from this area
--------------------

Concerning the menu screen
--------------------------
If you what to survive in this world, you will have to know yourself better.
By pushing the select button, you can confirm your status, current equipment,
passage of time and desires(afflictions) that you have. Know you self in order
to receive the knowledge of them (Beings you encounter).

Concerning commands
------------------
When you see an item and are close enough, push the circle button to show the
commands that you can perform on it. Use the left stick to select open, take,
etc. You can also use it to reach out and stop (cancel). Also,
look/investigate things to know their effects in order to survive. Being
indifferent is the most dangerous thing of all.

Concerning the effects of smell and light
-----------------------------------------
There are things hidden in this world that call out to living people. There
are things that these beings do not like, things with smell or light. If you
are possessed by such a being and eat something with smell or light, you can
drive them away. However, you should be aware that this will cause a little
bit of damage.

Concerning dashing and turning loose
------------------------------------
If you hold R1 or X while moving, you will be able move and turn faster than
normal. Also, there are beings in this world that can grab on to you. To get
loose, move both sticks up, down, right and left (move them around quickly.

Concerning usable tools and weapons
------------------------------------
You can equip items and weapons by pushing square. Each time square is pushed
will cycle through the list. Use the left stick to use the item or weapon.
The effect that these weapons will have against them is unknown.

Concerning spirit and vitality
-------------------------------
Living things in this world have two major strengths. The blue one in the
upper left hand corner of the screen is spirit and the red one on the upper
right is vitality. Spirit is taken by spiritual attacks. When it is depleted,
you will be vulnerable to all types of damage. On the other hand, vitality is
taken by physical attacks. If it is depleted, you will die.

Concerning the power of fate
----------------------------
Power of fate
This is the power to open up the future. It can also be called one's own
potential. It is inevitable that all possible outcomes are effected by the
power of fate. This power can be risen by performing actions and choices that
go against the future (as it is now). First, "the power of fate is high" your
future is ahead.

Last Note
---------
The double doors are doors of fate. You will pass through these doors a few
times to arrive at the gates of judgment. However, up until that happens,
you can probably change.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. The Beginning of the Land
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first part of this room is a narrow path. There are four barrels ahead of
you. The closest barrel to the left has oil in it, the second has nothing.
Since neither block your path, just walk around them. Do not needlessly
destroy things, save that sin for ghouls and ghosts if you must. There are 6
skulls on sticks here as well. You can talk to them. Most of them just mock
you, as funny as it is to mocked by a head on a stick, they sometimes have
something important to say. Sometimes, they will shake and a light will go
off, if this happens you can break them with a weapon to get an item. They all
seem to remember you. None of the ones here have anything important to say,
the last one does mention ghouls though. The first one to give something has
an apple and the other has a smelly bag, I would probably at least take the
bag. You will have to break one of the barrels that block your path, it does
not matter which one, they both have the same body in them. The head will fall
off the body and start to speak, get used to weird stuff like this, it is only
going to get more bizarre. Anyway the head tells you that this is the world of
ghosts. The dead here along with those that come here have fallen into hell
because of suffering, desire, pleasure, etc. and that it is here that you must
hang on to your fate. Also, it tells you that you should have a good look
around. After this, the head will try to give you a curse, but your spirit is
high, so you are safe from it. you will sense something behind you. As you
turn, a ghoul comes out of the ground. It should only take five or so hits
from the spear to deal with it. Take the note from the body. This note talks
about "Knowledge", you must "know" this world as much as you can to improve
your chances. Picking up accounts (anecdotes, notes that are purple and gold)
and things connected to it cause places to change. If you do not look for
these things, you will not know about the hidden connections of this world.
You might notice that the skulls are all shaking, they are trying to tell you
something, you may also notice that they are pointing towards the cell windows
on the wall. One looks like something broke out of it and the other still has
it's door on it. Just leave them alone for right now. The jar in the corner
has a note in it that you should take. This note tells you that there is a
hung man at a large tree that has some hidden thing. You will know when you
find the account for it. Go up the stairs. Here you will find a large tree
that has a rope for hanging, no one seems to be in it though. There are two
ghouls that you will probably have to deal with. There is a note at the top of
the stairs to read, it is not horribly important. The barrel behind it
contains a chest, you will need a key first though. The skull close to it
should have an account. This account is about a man who was condemned to hang
and burn. It says that the suffering by this type of punishment is probably
unfathomable by other people. This man will ask a question, "Do you understand
this suffering". When he sees fire, he remembers this suffering. It also says
that this man is hung on the branch of a large tree. The other talking skull
just taunts you really, nothing important. The body with a head tied up on the
stake will drop down some when you look at it. Hit with your spear until it
spits out a note. This note talks about the question the hung man will ask.
There are some arrows hidden on the ground here too. The jar at the end has
some chest keys. Go around the room and break the barrels except for the one
that blocks the path. There will be a chest and a body in them. Talk to the
head and then hit the body until it gives up the note which explains the
accounts some more, nothing you do not already know though. There is also a
jar near by that should have some potatos, you should take these to use on
ghouls.. Open one of the chests, the last one you found should be the right
one. You are looking for another account. If it was in the last one one, the
other has the mushrooms and a note about the liquids, like water, blood, etc.
The account is about a man tied to a large tree who took and hid something a
long time ago. It mentions some wells, twins and a letter with a gold seal.
It would seem that he pushed these twins (who were very greedy) into a well and
took the letter. There is a body tied to the tree that you should talk to. He
mentions a spirit fragment. Anyway, strike him until a letter comes out, take
it. It has a gold seal. There is a jar next to the tree that has chest keys,
take them too. The skulls up on the wall in front of the tree have apples,
you will need the one on the right at least. The one on the left is a rotten
apple. The jar has a note in it about the effects of food on ghosts. You may
have noticed the whirlpool-like things on the walls. You can get items out of
these by stabbing at them with your spear. They are never story items though.
Anyway, go back to the barrel blocking the path and break it. It has oil in it
and will be set on fire. You will sense something behind you. The noose is
now "occupied", strike the rope to cut our new friend down. Talk to him and he
will tell you about the pains of hell. He will then ask you if you understand
these things. Pick the first option, which means you do understand. He will
laugh and drift off. After this, you will receive your first spirit fragment.
The fragment will tell you that you have opened the path to the next area, etc.
The door to the next area is now open.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. The Sinking Marsh of Regret and Desire
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Along the path, there is a note (nothing important though) and a chest, watch
for the raven/crow things that come out of the shelf though. The chest has a
note that tells you that there is something in the wells that wants what the
man tied to the tree has. First, you will need an account though. Obviously,
you have the letter already. Go down the stairs. Talk to the tied up body,
who tells you that your path is blocked ahead. Strike him until you get the
note, which talks about memories and their connections. It gives a dirty
photograph as an example and tells you that to give it or not is your decision.
Anyway, there is a large bag hanging near by, strike it and pull your spear out
of it to get, *gasp*, a dirty photograph. Watch for the mouth though. When
you take it, a ghostly man will come out of a well. Go talk to him and he will
ask you to give the photo to him. Give him the photograph to go on (If you do
not, you would have to fight a ghost). The path is now open, so let's move on.
Go to the left between the well and the wall. The first jar has nothing in it,
but the second has important treasure chest keys. As you continue moving
forward you will see a body tied to a ladder. You can talk to it if you want,
but stab it until you get a note, but do not destroy the body just yet. This
note talks about a big decision along the way to the path of fire. Before the
fire is a bell, which is a sign of punishment. This will call a sleeping
malice. They are looking for something. Anyway, on the other side of the well
is another body tied to a ladder. It also has a note which refers to
a big decision about the path of fire and the path of doors. When the path of
doors is opened, something will happen. There is only only key to this path.
You can now destroy the body, both will disappear. There are skulls on top of
the wells, look up to see them. Pass under the bridge. The jar has a
replacement doll. The first barrel has chest which contains an account about
the twins. The older one likes things that are red, he is gentle. The younger
likes blue things, he is an intellectual. They seem to have started stealing
gold things. If you are brave, you should try looking down the wells, you may
be able to meet them. The other barrel has arrows. The bag contains a note
asking if you gave the photo away or kept for yourself. There is a bag hanging
above, on the other side of the well, you will have to shoot it down with an
arrow. Doing so will yield a chest, open it and take the red note. This note
talks about pillars of malice made of blood and shooting what is on top of the
pillar will cause the next pillar to appear. The jar in the corner has apples
in it. Go back towards the two first wells and go up the the ladder on the
right. The door in front of you is locked. Turn to the left and
look/investigate the skull hanging. It will start to glow, knock it down and
go back down the ladder to get the note that was dropped. This note explains
that things can be hidden in lumps of mud (purple stuff). Go back up the
ladder and to the right. The first lump on the wall has some keys. The second
will drop a replacement doll. It will also reveal a ledge, watch for the
raven. The note on the ledge explains the usage of the dolls. The last lump
has a handle that you will need. Go back towards the ladder and turn left to
get on the bridge. The note explains curses. The lump to the left reveals a
note that speaks of the twins in the well. Go towards the right, watch for the
raven on the ledge. The lump has some dried white fruits, good for fighting
ghosts. The bag contains a body. Strike it to get an account, watch for the
mouth. This account is about a woman on her wedding day. There was only one
thing that was important to her and it was taken by the twins. This thing is
still at the bottom of the well, but you will need some sort of stimulant or
incentive to get it. Go back to the first well and "look" down it. The
ghostly being that comes out of it will say that it smells gold. It will also
talk some about suffering. Anyway, use the handle next to the well to pull the
bucket up. There is a piece of jewelry in it, a proach actually. When you
take it, the ghost at the bottom will what something gold. Give it the letter
and receive another spirit fragment. Go back to the well in the back and use
the handle that you got earlier on the disc. Use the handle to pull up the
bucket. Take the key from the bucket and you will receive another spirit
fragment. After that, the ground will shake and turn into blood and a large
pillar will come out of the ground. Remember that stepping on blood will make
ghouls appear, but only two can be in this room at a time. Use potatos to stun
them if you do not want to hurt them. Run to one of the side ladders and go
up. Shoot the large red sphere with an arrow and jump down to pick up the
item. A new pillar will appear. There are three such pillars, do the same
thing to each one. When you get the item from the last pillar, you will
receive a spirit fragment. Quickly run up one of the side ladders again and
unlock the door to the next room.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10. The Path of Exposed Darkness
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you get into the room, the ground will shake and and pieces of the walls
will fall down. Go to the right and cut the rope. Several items will fall.
You need to pick up the blue key-like object. The other items are apples,
medicine and smelly bags and arrows. Pick what ever you think you will need, I
tend to take medicines and bags. There are also three jars in this room. The
closest to the door has nothing, while the one next to it has mushrooms. The
jar in the other corner has an account in it. This account is about two
necklaces, a pearl one and one that has been cut. There are also two women
looking for them. One is in the mud prison and the other is one of the single
cells in a line. There is a body in one of the corners, stab him to get the
pearl necklace. Take the only way out of this room, but be careful, a ghoul
will appear in the room to the immediate right. There are two jars next to
where the ghoul appears. The closest to the wall has potatos in it. The other
has an account. This account is about a bell sounding and three men, the twins
and their friend. It would seem that they did not really get along and one of
them stole some stakes. These stakes are some where hidden. Final agony is
calling for the beautiful trio. To the right are some stairs. Walk down them
until you come to a jar. The jar has a note about a hung woman whose grudge
knows no end. To burn the grudge in the fire or to drop her to call it, which
will you do? Continue down the path to the right and turn right again when you
get to the end. Break the barrel and take the important bags of water. When
you get close to the bars/gate, a body will jump out. Strike it for some keys.
Strike the body next to it for another note. Break the barrel as far away from
it as you can. Blood will come out, along with some smelly bags. When you
move closer to the end of the hall, a woman will appear and go through the
door. Follow her, but be prepared to deal with at least one ghoul. The jar in
the corner has a replacement doll. There is a body inside the lump of mud, you
can talk to it, but do not hit it. Go forward and strike the lump on the wall.
Talk to the body, it speaks about the pillars. Strike it to get a note, which
tells you that oil burns and that this can destroy walls. To the left is a
another lump with a body that also has a note. This note tells you that there
is a woman here that seeks a necklace. Which necklace does she want? On the
other side, there are two more lumps. The first has a body which was some
rotten apples. The second has a chest. Open it and take the account, which is
about a pillar of malice. If you know three of the stories a new pillar will
appear that has something. If you met five then something special will happen.
We are done here for the moment, so go back the way that you came. Go back up
the stairs and down the hall, watch for the ghoul. Finally, go back to the
room where the pillars were.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11. The Sinking Marsh of Regret and Desire Revisited
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you enter the room, a new pillar will appear. Shoot the red sphere and
drop down to get the cut necklace. Go back up the ladder closest to where the
necklace was to go back to the very first room where the big tree is.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12. The Beginning of the Land Revisited
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First, you should go put an apple in the cell with the door at the very
beginning of this room, if you already did, then there will be a piece of
honeycomb there. After that, go to where the fire blocks the path and throw a
bag of water on it. Break the barrel to get a skull key. Ring the bell, be
prepared to fight a ghoul though. Go to the first cell on the right and open
the door. There will be a woman in the cell, talk to her and she will "ask"
for the necklace. She never says which necklace though, so pick the second
option which is to give her nothing. Continue on the path, until you get to
the lump of mud on the floor. Inside the lump is a chest, open the chest and
take the keys. Continue on until you get to the last cell on the left. Open
it and a body will jump down. He will talk about suffering and then a skull
chest will appear at your feet. Open the chest and you will see a glass ball
in the center. You might have noticed that there has been no mention of a
glass jewel anywhere. Do not take it, you might want to take the arrows
though. Continue to the end, the body will come down if you look up at it. It
has a replacement doll. Break the wood boards to reveal the other door to the
path of darkness.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13. The Path of Exposed Darkness Revisited
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you walk in the direction of the stairs, our old friend, the hung man, will
appear to the left. "Look" at him and he will float to the room where the rope
and necklace were. Run to that room and talk to him. He seems to remember
you. You will get a spirit fragment that you tell you that there is a
possibility to meet him again and that he is waiting. Be careful of the ghoul
that spawned when you ran by. There is a new chest on the ground open it to
get an account. This one talks about meeting people again, choices and their
connections. Go back down the stairs and back down the hall to the room where
the four chests were. Open them all, watch for the ghouls though. The woman
will reappear, talk to her and she will ask for the necklace, pick the second
option, which is to give her nothing. Return to the hallway, but instead of
going back up the the stairs, continue straight and into the darkness...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14. The Gallows
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a hanging bride to the right that wants you to kill her. Pick up the
account on the pedestal. This account talks about two men that liked to hang
people. One liked to simply drop them, while the other liked to drop and burn
them. These two men eventually died, the first is crazy and a coward. The
last has become a brutal murderer. The one of the corners are two barrels. In
the middle of th barrels are some mushrooms. The barrel to the right of the
mushrooms has a special skull key, like the one from the first cave. The other
barrel has some daggers in it. There is another barrel on the other side that
has some black fruits. Go to the bride and just cut the rope. She will drop
down and will eventually talk to you. She cannot not remember why the picture
or the piece of jewelry are important to her. She asks you which do you think
is important, the letter or the picture. You will get to pick one of them.
Take Linda's picture, the item on the right, which is from her friend. She
tells you that you may be able to uncover her most important memories and that
her name is Linda. You will also receive a spirit fragment. A special chest
will appear, open it if the skull key and take the center item, some matches.
Go back the way you came, do not go through the doors.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15. The Path of Exposed Darkness Final Visit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want, you can go back to where the four chests were to get some items.
To the right of the door in that room is a wall with oil at the bottom.
Light a match and throw it in the oil. Extinguish the fire with a bag of
water. Inside the room are some matches, red fruit, bags of water, light fruit
and some black fruit. Watch for the ghouls as you make your way back up the
stairs and to the right towards the skulls on the shelves. Go to the very last
one. When you talk to it, it will tell you that you should be able to know the
malice and hate left in this world by searching for spirit fragments, but this
alone is not enough. The skull next to the last has a note, "look" at it to
get it. It tells you that there are three stakes hidden in these skulls, but
you will need light to find them. Use a match like your spear to light the
candle in between the two remaining skulls. "Look" and break them to get two
stakes. Light the candles on the next ledge. The skull to the right has the
last stake. The next one has a note about hard walls and using blood on them.
The last skull has a note about three people looking for stakes and a lights.
Return to the room where the pillars were.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
16. The Sinking Marsh of Regret and Desire Final Visit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A final pillar will appear, shoot the sphere and drop down to get a spirit
fragment. You get this fragment because you met the five people. This marks
the end of this area. Go back to the area where the hanging bride was and go
through the doors of fate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17. The Twisted Torture at the the Large Whirlpool
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To the left of you is a lump of mud that has some red bags and to the right is
a lump with bags of water. Watch out for the ghoul that appears behind you.
The cell to the left has a woman in it. Talk to her and she will tell you that
you will meet Linda again if you live that long. On the right side is a note.
It talks about cutting off heads and bathing in fire. The lump next to it has
a note about knowing the effects of items. The last lump in the room also as a
note. This note says that the pleasure seeking iron masks (people) find relief
in a dark room where the lights have been extinguished. Go to the right side
of the door and "use" the lever. The gate will open, go in to the next room.
First, you should throw bags of water at the pools of blood on the floor. Now,
go around the room from the left, the second skull will give you some bags of
water. Pick up the iron mask next to the skulls. Continue around the room,
you will find two jars, both of which have notes. The first note says that
there is a strange smell from the fires and that there is a special smell that
beings who call out to the light and darkness hate. Blood is a stimulus. The
second note says that if you want to live longer, you should realize the nature
of the ghosts. There are ghosts with the quality of fire, blood and darkness.
Strike the lump of mud to reveal another of the coffin-like things. There is a
jar a little farther away. The note inside is about possession. There are two
skulls close to that jar. The first will give you mushrooms if you "look" at
it. Near the last skull is a iron mask on the wall, "look" at it and it will
fall off, pick it up. The sack to the left has a note, but be careful as blood
will come out. Use a bag of water on the blood, the note explains that there
are gates on the floor that you can open by striking the marker and close them
by striking the gate. Break open the sacks in the middle of the room, a lever
will be in each one. As you do this those coffin-like things will fall to the
ground. Be careful though, flying curses might also come out of the sacks. It
does not really matter which coffins you open, just open four and strike the
body that comes out of one to get a key to go to the next room. As you go up
the little steps, there is a treasure box, it has glittering water and some
black fruit, I would probably just not open it. To the left is a door, open it
and go through, but not too far. Use a bag of water on the blood and strike
the body to get a note. This note tells you that there is a large whirlpool.
If you break things there, a desire is born. Break three and you will discover
a new desire. Go back through the door. There are some arrows under the
floors, if you want them. Strike the gate to make it go down. The jar has
some dried red fruit. Throw a lit match into the oil to the left and then use
a bag of water on it to clear the path. Break open the sack, but watch for the
blood. Use a bag of water on the blood that comes out. The arrows are iron
arrows, very useful against certain enemies. The body in the corner has some
long matches. Strike the next gate to go by, the jar under the floor has a bag
of water. Light the candle to your right and a ghost will appear behind the
bars to the left. She will tell you not to extinguish the light because those
who wear the masks will do something. At any rate, go through the door to get
to the next area, you will need the key you just found.

There are two jars to the right, the first has some important keys and the
second has some stone heads. The skull to the left has something to say. The
next hanging skull does not do anything. Leave the hanging bags here alone for
the moment. There are two ghouls in this room that you will have to kill. The
next hanging skull you see will give an apple if you look at it, just leave it
alone. Pick the treasure keys off the floor. You will probably have to break
one of the bags to get by. When you do so, a blue light will come out and go
into the whirlpool. When you get to the end, there will be a jar with some
bags of water. Break the wood boards blocking the door, but do not open it.
Instead turn around and go to the right. There are some stone heads to the
left and a treasure box at the end. The treasure box has a piece of honeycomb
and some sparkling water. It is best not to open it at all. Go to the right
and through the door.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18. The Darkness of the Prison under the Floor
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you get through the door, turn to the right. When you get into this room,

the gate will drop down. A voice will call out to you, telling you to "come
here". The big bag has some daggers, which you will see at of in this room.
There are also some stone heads and some bags of water. Pick up the note,
which tells you that there are three desires in the world of humans. Turn
around and go to the ledge close to the door. The jar has a note, which tells
you to be careful while wearing a mask. There is a black shadow underneath the
floor that will come out if one of the gates are left open. If he comes out
and you defeat him the mask will come off. There is a note on the ledge about
light and dark. Now, go to the curtains and strike them to remove them. It is
best to aim high. You must get rid of all three. At some point, a ghost will
come out, which is of the unfriendly variety. This particular version of the
ghost, which looks like it has wings, makes my blood pressure go up very
quickly. It is best to use smelly bags and other smell/light type bags to stun
it and when run up to it and hit it with the spear until it disappears, keep
doing this until the cursed thing goes away for good. It may stop and ask you
to give it something. I normally do not give it anything, which is the second
option, but depended on your experiences, you may want to give it a replacement
doll. The first time it asks, it will take all of the item you give it. If
you said no and it asks again, it will only take one. Anyway, when it is
finally gone, the center door will open along with the gate to the room. Take
the picture of someone, which is the first choice. You will receive a spirit
fragment. Never strike the hanging bodies here. Quickly go back the way you
came and through the door back to the whirlpool. Ignore the ghoul that spawns
here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
19. The Twisted Torture at the the Large Whirlpool Revisited
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now you can break the hanging bags. Each time you do, a blue light will go
into the whirlpool. When this has happened a total of three times, things will
get a little busy. When the show is done, a ghost with no head will come out.
It would seem that he cannot remember what his face looks like. He will ask
you to give it to him. Pick the first option, which is to always to give in
these situations and give him the picture that you just received. A new path
will open up and a new pillar will appear. There may be a ghoul that spawned,
you will have to deal with it. There is a ball on the top of the pillar, but
you cannot shoot it down just yet. Get you bowgun out and shoot the flying
ghosts that fly around the pillar. Each one will take two hits. Each time you
get rid of one the pillar will come down a little. When they are all gone, you
can shoot the ball down. This will get rid of the pillar. Go to where the
pillar was and pick up the ring of desire (I know it really does not look like
a ring). You will get a spirit fragment for this. If you use a match and look
at the skulls, they have some medicines, some bags of water and some matches.
Go to the blue whirlpool on the wall. Strike it once and you will get a piece
of honeycomb. You must take it so that you can strike it again to get a iron
mask. Now go towards where the bars were opened during the whirlpool/pillar
scene. The jar to the left has nothing in it. The chest has some fire arrows
and some twisted matches. I would take the fire arrows. There are two lumps
of mud near the door. Strike the right one first to get a iron mask and then
the left one to get a "special" iron mask. This one has blood on it, which
evidently gives it the power to stick to your face. Believe it or not, this
is actually a good thing, really, it is. The only path that is not blocked to
you is to go back to the room where you fought the ghost, so go back there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20. The Darkness of the Prison under the Floor Revisited
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Walk down the hall until you get to a lump of mud. Strike it for a chest.
Open the chest and take the account. This account is about three people
looking for three stakes. They are hung upside down, behind curtains of skin.
The one in the middle cannot be seen because it is being hung higher than the
rest. The rope can be found along with two others. They want to go to a
certain place. The place where they are hung is obviously the place where you
fought the ghost. At any rate, continue down the hallway until you get to the
end. The wall to the right will shake. Use a bag of water to extinguish the
lamp hanging from the ceiling. The mask on the left side will come out and go
through the wall that moved. This is one of those who wear the mask. The wall
that moved will break, walk inside the room to talk to the ghost. He tells you
that if you wear the mask that you have on, everyone will be afraid of you and
you can do as you want. When he is done, go forward and pick up the account.
This account just talks about cutting people's heads off. The chest has two
replacement dolls in it, so do not open it. To the left, there is a mask on
the floor, pick it open and turn around to go out. Light a match and look at
the center skull on the left. This is actually the same skull from the very
first area, he is still a bit of a jerk. Continue to the edge of the doorway,
there is a mask to pick up on the left. Go out of the room and to the left.
Go all the way to the door and turn around, strike the marker that will open
the first gate/hatch on the left. Break the jar for an account. You might
encounter hands when you do this. If you have five stone heads, throw them at
the hands to get rid of them. If you do not, go and get some out of the room
where you fought the ghost, where the three hanging bodies are (only two are
present at the moment). Chances are that when you do this you will have to
fight a ghoul and the hands will go away. Pick up the account, which is about
a woman without a head (A general theme around here, it would seem).
She stays in the prison under the floor and has a strong grudge against those
who wear the mask. It is said that whenever she leaves those who wear the mask
appear (Now referred to as the mask wearers). Because of this she is afraid of
the darkness (Remember that the mask wears cannot come out in the light). If
you want to meet her, you must make it light. Go back to where the mask wearer
came out. Relight the lamp hanging from the ceiling and open the closest gate
on the floor. A ghostly woman will come out, talk to her. She will at first
be scared of you. However, she seems to remember you and will ask to remove
the mask from your face. Pick the top option and she will take the mask off
and disappear. Return to the room with the whirlpool and go through the door
where you picked up the mask with the blood (It is the door that was blocked by
bars before the whirlpool scene.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
21. Prison where Mud is Produced
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You know you are in the right room if there is a bell and 5 cells with
window/doors. Ring the bell and then pick up the key under the floor and open
the door. Get the other keys and open each door. Open the doors on the other
side. Now go back to the bell and break it with your spear. Open one of the
doors on the left side (one that does not have a chest). A ghost will come out
that you will have to fight. Kill it the same way as the first one. This one
is not as hard though. Open the door again and the ghostly old woman from the
first room in this area will appear. Talk to her and she will ask if you meet
the whirlpool ghost. She will tell you that desire is a scary thing. Then she
will take an interest in the blue gear handle you have. She will put a red one
just like it down. Select the first option to take it. Go to the end of the
hallway and turn to the right, "use" the handle to go through to the next part
of this room.

Do not bother with the jars on the left. Go down the hall, there is a jar on
the right, break it for a note. This note tells you that while your spear
attacks can effect you, fire is just fire. Continue on and shoot a fire
arrow at the last curtain on the left. Let it fall and then take the mask.
Turn around and start back towards the way you came. Turn to the left and open
the door. When you get inside, the headless woman will appear again. It would
seem that the mask wearers have caused her a great deal of suffering and she
wants to destroy all the masks, so she asks you to give her all the masks you
have. Give her the masks (first option) and she will tell you that the mask
wearers will not attack her anymore. She will then ask where her pearl
necklace is, give it to her (First option as usual). She will tell you that
the necklace was from her friends and that a child took it before the wedding
ceremony. The lever needed to open the last coffin will drop down, pick it up.
Break open the bag to get the torch for your spear. There are some jars behind
you in a corner, the one to the right has some important chest keys. Go back
to the place where the coffins are, which is the first real room of this area.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
22. The Twisted Torture at the the Large Whirlpool Final Visit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch for ghouls on your way back. When you get to the room where the coffins
are, open the last coffin. A ghost to fight will appear. When the ghost is
defeated, the seal on the door will be broken, go through that door.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
23. The Darkness of the Prison under the Floor Final Visit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This room eventually connects with the room you know by the same name. There
are two jars on the left. One with red fruits and one with white fruits. Get
rid of the curtain and look down and "use" the hole to crawl through. Use a
bag of water on the pool of blood. "Look" at the mask on the wall to get it to
drop off, pick it up. Walk down the hall and a mask wearer will appear.
Follow him down the hall, do not pick up the mask on the shelf. When you get
to the second gate on the floor, open it. Remember to be careful of the black
shadow. Close the gate immediately if it comes. Pick up the black statue and
close the gate. To the left is a mask. Use the torch to brighten the room,
you do not need matches anymore. "Look" at it and take it. Continue down the
hall, until you get to the end. Use the handle to open the gates. Turn to the
right and get rid of the curtain. Use a red fruit on the odd wall and then
break it with your spear. There is a chest on the floor, open it and take the
account. This account is about the god of death (Grim Reaper). It says that
if you receive the mark of death from it, you will fall to the graveyard of
hell. Go straight and use your torch to get rid of the curtain. Pick up the
mask on the floor and cut the closest rope. Blood will come down, so use a bag
of water on it. Cut the rest of the ropes, extinguish the fire before cutting
another rope. There will be a loud sound after cutting one. Open the chest
for an account about Linda, who was happy on her wedding day. Her fiancee did
not come so she sent everyone (eight people) to the guillotine. Only one
person got to keep his head and he does not remember. Go out of the room and
turn right and then right again. Go down the hall to where the hanging bodies
where. You will notice the there are now three bodies. Strike them all until
they disappear. This will cause three ghosts to appear, Kyle, Jim and Mick.
These are the three looking for the stakes so they can go to "that place".
They will then ask you for them. These three do not exactly deserve them, so
select the second option. They will get angry and become a ghost to fight.
This ghost is a lot easier than the first one you fought here. When it is
defeated, you will get a spirit fragment. Leave the room and turn left.
There is a gate on the floor here, open it and turn the valve. Continue on and
go through the door.

Note: In the room with the ropes, there should be a ring of fate (It looks
just like the ring of desire). I have no idea why it did not appear for me
during this walkthrough, if you see it near the doorway after cutting the
ropes, pick it up.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24. Prison where Mud is Produced Final Visit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turn left, as you go down the hall there will be a boarded up doorway on the
right, break the wood and go through. If you hurry, you will not have to fight
the ghoul that spawned, because it cannot pass through the doorway. Wait for
the rotating catwalk to come around and get on it. A grim Reaper (God of
Death) will appear. I hope you have stereo sound, because you are going to
need it. Use iron arrows, each time you shoot him, he will disappear. Listen
for his voice to know where he will reappear. Do not let him hit you three
times or you will go to Hell's Graveyard, which is not a place you want to be
right now. When he is defeated, go to the center of the catwalk and strike
each body once. Pick up the note and white fruit. The note is about someone
who knows "that place". Get off on the ledge that has a small blue whirlpool on
the wall. Continue to strike the whirlpool and take the items until you get
the mask. There is a jar to the left, break it to get a note about the
guillotine in the next room. There are eight of them and you can decide to
stop the executions if you want. Get back on the catwalk and get off on the
ledge with the hanging bag. Break the bag for an account about the woman who
hates the masks, if she gets them something will break again and again in some
room. Get back on the catwalk and immediately back off at the red room, watch
for the gates that come down. There are two lumps of mud on the walls, the
right one has a handle and the left has a bloody spear tip. Take these and get
back on the catwalk and go to the center pillar, use the handle on the disc.
Turn the handle and the center piece will stop moving. Get off at the blue
room. Do not bother with the lump to the right. To the left is a skull.
Strike it and it's eyes will turn red and open the blocked door. There is a
note on the floor to the left, nothing too important though. Get back on the
catwalk and get off at the door that was blocked by the gate. Before you open
it, equip your bowgun.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
25. The Guillotines
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you get through the door, a bell will sound and a mask wearer will appear.
He will state that it is time to start the executions. This is his favorite
thing to do and it is okay for you to watch, but do not interfere. Quickly
Shoot him each time he appears next to a guillotine. You will have
to do this eight times. You cannot stop him from cutting the rope on the last
one. He will tell you that this person who wears the mask caused his woman to
suffer and then he will cut the rope. A ghost will appear from the severed
head wearing a mask. He will tell you that his name is Alan and he is Linda's
fiancee. He notices that you have something of her's and he wants you to give
it to him. Give him (first option) Linda's picture. He will describe "that
place" as being a beautiful place with flowers. He will disappear and leave
his picture (Alan's picture). You will receive a spirit fragment. Pick the
picture up and go to the hanging bag to the left, it is slightly behind you.
You will have to shoot it down, be careful, as blood will come out. Use a bag
of water on the blood and take the skull key. Go to the bags to the right.
Break the right one and pick up the mask. Go to the skull chest and open it,
take the first item, a wooden carving of a man. This is the protector of life.
Go through the doors of fate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
26. The fountain
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is a really good sign if you can make it to this area. You might notice
that it does not look like a part of hell. Do not get too used to seeing color
though. Walk up to the door and use the three stakes to open it. Walk through
the arch and you will be met by Linda. She will ask you if you remember her
and will then ask that you give her back the things that she let you have. You
just gave her picture to Alan, so give her Alan's picture (first option as
always). She wonders why you have his picture. She will ask you if you want
to know the story. Pick the first option and she will describe the same place
that Alan did. She talks a little bit more and then asks what you think.
Select the first option, which is to say "That is what Alan thinks". She will
tell you that you can come to "that place" and she will be waiting. You will
receive a spirit fragment, so now you should have fourteen all together.
Continue forward and go through the doors of fate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
27. The Land of the Whirlpools of Desire
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are some stone heads and some arrows in the barrels to the left. You
might want the stone heads if you do not have many. Watch out for the ghoul,
this is the normal ghoul's big brother, they are a lot faster and more
aggrieves. Slowly throw stone heads at one of the blue whirlpools, when the
hand has taken three, it will turn into a red set of hands, do not waste any
time and throw some sparkling water on it to get rid of it. Do this for the
other one too. Walk by the barrels and go towards the red whirlpool. Break
the barrel to the left and a body will come out. Strike it once for an
account. This account is about the two woman looking for a necklace and that
they are waiting in the red whirlpools. Strike the whirlpool once with your
spear and the woman from the mud prison will come out (She was the one where
the four chests were at the first area). Talk to her, she tells you that her
name is Stela (sutera). She "asks" you for the cut necklace. The notes
throughout the game give you the impression that this necklace does not really
belong to her, so pick the second option not to give her anything. She will
get angry and turn in to a ghost. Deal with her and go as far down the path as
possible. You will get to a hung man. "Look" at it's face to talk to it. It
does not have extremely useful things to say. Cut the rope and it will drop
down into the whirlpool. After the "show", you will have to fight the Grim
Reaper again, use iron arrows on him. Go up to the tree and take the key
(first item). You will receive a spirit fragment. Look down a little and to
the left, talk to the skull there. It is the same one from the beginning of
the game and from the area you just came from. Go to the next barrel and
break it for an account. This account is about the place with the fountain and
the stakes that are used as keys and a mirror. Strike the whirlpool with your
spear and the woman from the single cell will appear (The single cells in a row
in the first real room of the game). Talk to her and she will tell you that
her name is Sara. She will ask for the cut necklace. Give it to her (first
option). She will ask if you want to know about the necklace and then she will
ask for the black statue. Give it to her (first option) and she will tell you
that the cut necklace and the black statue go together and that she was worried
that if you gave the necklace to the woman of the mud prison, she would never
get them back. You will receive a spirit fragment, which tells you that you
will probably not see these woman again. Quickly break the boards to the left
and throw stone heads at the hands that appear. Throw them slowly or the hands
may not catch them. Be careful as three ghouls can appear here. Unlock the
door and go through it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
28. The Hall of Fate
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Strike the lump of mud for a note that mentions music. Go to the end of the
hall and break the boards in front of you. Deal with the ghoul and turn to the
left. As you walk down the hall, there will be some boards, break them to
expose a hole. "Use" the hole to crawl through. The first jar on the left has
an account about a musicbox. If you turn the key, the musicbox will play. The
red song is pleasure and the blue song is grudge. If you play the musicbox,
it's owner will appear. Turn to the left and pick up the expensive looking
ornament. Go out of the room and turn left. There are two ghouls that will
spawn, you will have to deal with the one on the left. Break the boards to the
right of the hall and open the door.

Go to where the curtains are and get rid of the center one with your torch.
Light the candles and look in the center mirror. Alan will appear. He seems
to know that you gave his picture to Linda and that she told you about
"that place". He describes "that place" again and that you will meet again and
then disappears. You will receive a spirit fragment. Go back out of this
room.

Turn right, break the boards and throw stone heads at the hands. After you
deal with the hands, open the door and enter the room. Turn to the left and go
to the lump of mud, strike it and take the iron spear. Turn to the right and
go towards the door on the far side of the room. In front of the door is a
harden hanging bag. Throw a red fruit at it and break it twice with your
spear. Watch for the blood that will come out. Use a bag of water on the
blood and take the key. Now go back towards where the lump of mud was and
break the boards to the right. Use a red fruit on the wall and break it with
you spear. When you step into the passage, the headless woman from the prison
under the floor will appear. She will tell you that her name is Rose. She
talks a bit about her necklace and then asks you for everything you have that
has to do with flowers. Give her (first option) the proach. After this she
will ask you for more. Do not give her anything (second option). She will ask
again, do not give her anything (second option). Finally, she will disappear.
Go through the door and open the chest on the floor. Take the second item, the
protector of spirit. Turn around and go back through the door. Go to the
left, there is a musicbox on the left. Use the blue key and turn it. The
musicbox will start to play. A little girl will appear. She will tell you
that this is her musicbox and that she thought she would never get to hear it
again. She tells you about the blue song represents malice, but that the
musicbox is not evil. She says that it is her treasure and that she is happy.
She then mentions meeting again at "that place". She seems to know that you
heard about "that place" along with Linda and Alan. She mentions that you will
meet her again and then she disappears. You will receive a spirit fragment.
Turn right and go through the door there. This is the cliff of fleeing people.
Be careful around the edges of this place as you can fall off. Watch for
ghouls. Walk forward and turn to the right. There will be a door to the
right, pass by the barrels for now and open the door. A ghoul will spawn when
you enter the hallway. The second jar on the left has important treasure keys.
Go to the musicbox on the left and use the red key. Turn the key and then
break the boards to the right. Hands will come out, if you have four stone
heads, throw them at the hands. If not, strike them with your spear, but be
careful because they can grab you and try to give you a curse. When you have
gotten rid of the hands, go through the door.

This is the room with the first musicbox. Go to the musicbox and turn the key.
Turn around and go to the hanging bag in front of you. Hit it with your torch
and extinguish the fire with a bag of water. Break the bag and strike the body
that falls out once. Pick up the muddy tooth. Go to the right and go through
the door there and then turn left into the room where you met Alan.

Go to the right, there will be a part of the wall that is glowing. Break the
wall and cut the rope. Turn around and pick up the muddy gun. There are
important treasure keys to the right. You may want to pick up the other items
that were dropped, sparkling water, a bag of water and a red bag. Go back
through the door you came from.

Turn left and go down the hall. There are probably ghouls everywhere so be
careful. To the left is a mirror with a hand reaching out. Throw it something
like potatos three times and a whirlpool will appear. Strike the whirlpool and
take the muddy honeycomb. Turn to the left and go down the hall to the door.
Open the door and go to the end of the room and go through the door.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
29. The Cliff of Fleeing People
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch for the ghouls. Go forward and then to the right to the barrels. Break
the barrel to the right. A body will come out, strike it once to get an
account about a person covered in desire. It would seem that this person knows
the connections of all the people. Break the barrel to the left of the barrel
in front of you. Open the treasure box that is left and take the account.
This account is about meeting the god of death after reading this account.
After you read it, the grim reaper will appear, *gasp*. Use iron arrows on
him. Once he is dealt with, go forwards and use the key to open the door. Be
careful of the ghouls here and break the second barrel to the left. Pick up a
warrior's crossbow. Continue on and use a bag of water on the fire blocking
your path. Throw some water on the small fire to the left and break the pot.
Strike the body to bring it down and strike it again for an account. This
account is about a person with the desire of things. He is the easiest to
understand. Go the next pot and break it. Strike the body to bring it down
and strike it again for an account about a person with the desire of
dependence. Go to the next pot and break it. Quickly throw some water on the
blood and strike the body to bring it down. Strike it again for an account
about a person with the desire of destruction. There are now four pillars, the
three you raised and one that was already present. Go to the ghost that
appeared and talk to him. It is our old friend, the hanged man. Apparently,
he is still hung up on the fact you told him that you understand his suffering
and malice. He reminiscences with you a bit and then asks you to release him
from hell. Now that the seal on the door is released, open it and go up to the
pot. Strike the hanging body before the pot to get a key. Go up to the pot
and throw water on the two small fires to the sides and underneath, then on the
pot itself to extinguish the fire. Break the pot and a ghostly man will
appear. It would seem that he does not want you to shoot the balls on the
pillars down. You will have to wait for him to pass before shooting at a ball.
Shoot them all down and go back down to where the pots were. Go back towards
the door that you originally came from. There are four chests, open them all
and take an item from each. I do not think it matters which items you take.
Go through the door that you originally came from and go straight, open the
door at the end.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
30. The Scaffold of Desire
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Go forward until you actually get in the room. The gate for the door will come
down. Let the ghosts attack you, they will take an item from you. If, for
some reason, you do not have an item that it wants (red health, blue arrows,
green doll), you will have to attack the ghost to get rid of it. After this is
done, go up to the doors of the pillar and strike the orb to open it. There
will be an item and a ghost will tell you to take it. Do not take the item
(second option). Do this to all the color doors. This will cause your
different desires to go down. When that is complete, the white door will open.
The ghost drowned in desire will appear. He will talk a bit about connections
and such and then he will ask for a good item. Give him the expensive looking
ornament (first option). He will talk a bit about how wonderful the ornament
is and then disappear. You will receive a spirit fragment. Go through the
doors of fate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
31. The Garden of Fate
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Walk down the path, be care of a ghoul that spawns here. Break the left barrel
and continue down until you get to the wall. Turn to the right and go down
this path. There is a strange stone with a lamp towards the left side. Go to
it and "use" the stone to read it. Place the god's tooth in the bowl. The
grim reaper will appear again. Deal with him and your desire of reliance will
go down. Now go where the colorful flowers are. Linda and Alan will appear.
She tells you that they brought you here because you understand them. They
disappear and the little girl appears. She tells you that you saw human greed
malice and your own heart. She asks you if you can hear the voices calling for
more and more. She then states that you no longer need to go to the gates of
judgment and that the two of you can go to heaven together now. Pick the
second option, which is to say that you are going to the gates of judgment.
She will turn into a ghost. This is the most powerful ghost you have
encountered, it confirms my suspicion that little girls are indeed evil.
Defeat her and a withered flower will appear. Pick it up for a spirit
fragment. Turn around and to the left will be a skull key. Pick it up and go
outside the garden and turn right. There will be a skull chest, open it and
take the center account. This account is about the purple replacement doll
being cursed. Go back around the path and open the doors of fate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
32. The End of the Land
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Go to the pillar on the left, there is a cell door on one side. Open it and
talk to the ghost. He will mention punishment and then ask you to give it to
him. Give him the masks. He mentions that you gave some to the woman from the
prison under the floor and disappears. To the other side of the room are some
stone markers like the one from the last area. Read the stone and place
whatever item it wants in the bowl, this will hurt you, but it will also cause
your desire of reliance to drop. Turn around and follow the wall to the left
until you come across a whirlpool in a tree. To the left is a bag, break it
and take the account. Watch for the flying curse. This account is about the
nine names and nine people of malice. Throw stone heads at the whirlpool and
then use sparkling water on the purple hands. If you need anything to do this,
equip your torch and walk around the pillars and look inside the shelves in
them. Once you use the sparkling water and giant eye will come out. Shoot it
will arrows when its eye is open. Once it is defeated, the ghost from the
scaffold of desire will appear. He will tell you that his name is orunisu (I
am not sure what name that is supposed to represent). He will tell you that he
has been waiting for you. It seems that because you gave him a good item, he
wants to help you. He talks a little bit about the nine people of malice and
that something might happen if you know them all. He will then tell you his
name and disappear. Walk forward until you reach the wall and turn to the
left. When you get close to the cliff, six masks will appear. Shoot them with
bows. Walk down the bridge and light the candles. Put the withered flower in
the bowl and look in the mirror. A gargoyle-like creature will appear. He
will you to pick one of the muddy items you found in the hall of fate. Select
the first item, the muddy gun. He will then ask you to give it to him, select
the second option, which is to not give it to him. Your desire of destruction
will go down. Walk to the middle of the bridge and jump off. This is hell's
graveyard. The grave keeper will tell you something things and give you a
plate explaining how to get out of this predicament. We do not particularly
care to read it, because, well, we are special. Walk around the edge of the
walls until you come across a hole/doorway in the wall. Walk through it and
you will come across a room with nine grave stones. Go to one and "look" at
the plate. The grave stone will light on fire. Use sparkling water to put out
the fire and the plate will fall some. Take the plate and it will read off on
of the names and break. Do this for all nine and a huge spirit fragment will
appear. Once you have it, your desires will go down a lot and you will be
taken back to the bridge, go straight into the room you have yet to visit.

You might want to keep a save after returning from Hell's Graveyard, there is
going to be a slight addition to this next section later.

Go straight through to the wall, go through the doors of fate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
33. The Gates of Judgment
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Talk to death and he will tell you that you have finally made it the end of
your journey. He will look at the items you are carrying and let you move to
the next room. Open the door and follow him to the next door. "Look" at the
door and one of the carving will talk to you. He will tell you that in the
next room you will be judged, but that it does not matter, because you are
going to hell. He will jump out of the door and become THE god of death. This
is probably going to be the longest fight of the game. Use whatever you have
to fight him. He will drop stuff for you to use, but I am not sure if it is
wise to take any of it. Try to do without his "charity". When he is defeated,
you will go through the doors. The judgment sort of reminds me of my last job
interview. Anyway, the voice will tell you that this is the gates of judgment
and offers you a second chance. Pick the second option, which is to receive
the judgment. If you selected the first option, you would be allowed to play
through the entire game again. Some figures will appear along with the book
that you wrote your name in at the very beginning of the game. You are allowed
to look at the different pages, which explain your level of spirit, desires and
the events that took place. It is really just a catalogue of things, it does
not give any new information. After this, you are guided to a mirror. You will
look into it and then the "ending" you obtained will be played. The ending is
just a short clip of whatever you are reborn as. The credits will play and
then it will display your rank. Then your stats will be displayed, spirit,
desire of things, reliance and destruction. To be reborn as a human, your
spirit must be above 220 000 (which it should) and all of your desires must be
below 20 000.

Playing through for this walkthrough, I received an A rank, which is a grim
reaper. I did not receive the best rank because my desire of destruction was
too high.

35. Items
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Soon to be alphabetical

There are a lot of items in this game and most of them have different effects
that are actually useful.

Skull Stone
-----------
They look like a stone head, do not mix these up with the talking skulls.

These are stones that resemble skulls. You can throw them. There are "hands"
that desire these.

Long Matches
------------
When equipped, you can light them one at a time (Use the right stick). They
stay lighted for a long time.

Dried red fruit
------------------
Throwing these has the effect of blood and smell. Eating them will cause a
little bit of damage, but it will cancel possession.

Red bag
-------
A red bag filled with blood. When these are thrown, water will change to blood
and things effected by blood will wake (react).

White fruit
-----------
A white luminous fruit. Eating them will cause a little bit of health and
spirit to be restored. Evil things do not like them (dislike it to be
thrown at them).

Oh boy, do they ever.

Dried white fruit
-------------------
Throw them to dispel evil. Eating them will cause a little bit of damage, but
it will cancel possession.

Red fruit
---------
A ripe, bloody fruit. Eating them will cause a little bit of health and spirit
to be restored. Throwing them has the effect of blood.

Water bag
---------
A leather bag filled with water (they look like brown bags). It would seem
that throwing them will extinguish things like fire.

You can also use these to turn other liquids like blood into water.

Matches
-------
These are short matches. When equipped, you can light them one at a time (Use
the right stick). They stay lit for a short time.

Twisted Matches
---------------
These are twisted matches. They do something with items that secretly have
curses. (Have not figured it out yet)

Black fruit
-----------
Throwing this has the effect of smell(This word can mean anything from stench
to fragrance, not too sure which it should really be, so I use smell). You
can throw them. They can cancel possession.

Smelly bag
----------
A leather bag with a strong smell. You can throw them. Evil things do not
like them.

No, no they do not.

Dried potato
------------
A completely dried potato. Eating them will cause a little bit of health and
spirit to be restored. They have an effect on ghouls.

Mushrooms
---------
They have a strange shape, but after taking a good look, they seem eatable. It
seems that they have the effect of recovering a little bit of health and
spirit.

Dried Honeycomb
---------------
A piece of a bee-like honeycomb. It smells like poison, if you eat it, your
health and spirit will go down a little bit, but it can cancel possesion.

Honeycomb
---------
Unlike the dried honeycomb, eating this kind will restore spirit and health.

Tooth of God
------------
A thing that looks like a fossil called the tooth of God. By having it, one
can be brought back from death (No health) once.

Blue substitute doll
-------------------
A doll made of a blue stone and branches. Having it will automatically dispel
curses related to "tools/items". Using it while cursed will dispel the curse.

Green substitute doll
--------------------
A doll made of a green stone and branches. Having it will automatically
dispel curses related to "searching". Using it while cursed will dispel the
curse.

Red substitute doll
------------------
A doll made of a red stone and branches. Having it will automatically
dispel curses related to "movement". Using it while cursed will dispel the
curse.

Yellow substitute doll
---------------------
A doll made of a yellow stone and branches. Having it will automatically
dispel curses related to "death". Using it while cursed will dispel the
curse.

White substitute doll
--------------------
A doll made of a white stone and branches. It will not automatically dispel a
curse, but using it will dispel all curses.

Purple substitute doll
---------------------
It would seem that there is a purple doll, but I do not know anything about it
other than it will hurt you if you pick it up.

Bell
----
It has a bad ring (off tone) to it. When you ring it, it will expel curses (I
think it will get rid of possesses too)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
36. Weapons
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You start out with two weapons the spear and the crossbow (Which somehow ends
up being called a bowgun).

Spears
------
This is your all purpose weapon, use it to attack, break jars, barrels and
other various tasks. It is a fairly effective weapon, it also tends to push
enemies back, which is obviously quite useful. The spear can also be charged
by holding the right stick back. There are two kinds of spears and there are
also various spear tips that you can use.

Iron spear - This is a faster stronger version of the spear you start with.

Torch - A spear tip wrapped in an oil-soaked cloth, touch a fire with it to
       light it.

Crossbows
---------
There are two crossbows, a brown hunter one and a blackish grey warrior one.
The warrior one is the faster of the two.

On top of it's obvious weapon use, you can you the crossbow to knock down
items. There are different arrows for you to use. The crossbow is a little
slower than the spear and should really only be used from a distance.

There are two kinds of normal arrows, wooden ones and iron ones, which are
stronger. There are also flaming arrows that can obviously set certain things
on fire.

Daggers and throwing knifes
---------------------------
There are a lot of different blades that you can throw. They all look similar,
a lot like a Japanese kunai actually.

Dagger - You can equip and throw these. They are only effective against Ghouls
and Ghosts.

Crimson dagger - These throwing knifes are covered in a red liquid. They are
only effective against Ghouls and Ghosts.

Scorching dagger - These throwing knifes have an oil-like film on them. They
are only effective against Ghouls and Ghosts.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
37. Tips
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Do not forget that you can move and turn more quickly by holding R1

-Strafing can become a life-saver if you time it right, especially against the
mouth things the ghosts use.

-Do not expect tips sections to be very big in the beginning

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
38. Enemies
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ghouls
------
These are the first things you encounter, they are purple with big "eyes".

From the manual: Usually hidden in the ground, they suddenly appear when they
find living things and chase them. They wander around rooms and can also
stubbornly chase you.

They will come out of the ground when ever you step on blood.

For now I am also including their big brother in this section. You can tell
the difference in that they are a light scaly blue and have big teeth. They
are more aggressive and can throw up black stuff (It looks the same as when
dead bodies do it).

Ghosts
------
These are the floating translucent "things", there is a picture of one in the
manual. Immense dread will probably follow seeing one, they are very powerful.

From the manual: These floating bodiless ghosts are born from the stagnate
air. They coil around living things and take their spirit while taking their
vitality little-by-little.

There are several kinds of ghosts. The first you will probably encounter I
call the big fat one. He is in the manual. (Well, I actually call him
something else, but I doubt GameFAQs would approve) The best way to deal with
them is to throw something that they do not like at them and then attack them
while they are stunned.

Ravens
------
The ravens in this game can attack you. They only seem to do it if you are
close and you look right at them. Their attack is basically a ramming attack
and they will die when they hit you or the wall/etc.

Grave creatures
---------------
I really do not know if they have a name or not, but these are the beings you
meet in Hell's Graveyard. They have a stone head and a black ghostly body.
They have a dash attack similar to the ghouls and can also throw black stuff up
at you, very rarely though.

Grim Reaper
-----------
The reapers are definitely one of the more interesting beings you will meet in
the game. They look like the one on the front cover of the game case. Unlike
the other "enemies", a reaper does not injure you, instead it will give you the
mark of death. If you receive three such marks, you will have to choose to
just give up (bottom choice) or take a second chance (Top choice). If you take
the second chance, you will be taken to Hell's Graveyard, where you will have
to try to find the plate with your name on it in under 666 seconds or you will
die. For best results, use arrows against them.

39. Credits
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Credits to Sony and Deep Space for making Hungry Ghosts

Big thanks to Dakini for keeping me company on the Hungry Ghosts GameFAQs board
