Welcome to the comprehensive list of weapons and armor for the .hack games!
hack is a four-volume RPG game from Bandai. You play the role of Kite, a new
player in the online gaming system known as The World. Kite is barely
introduced to the online gaming experience when his friend Orca runs into a
serious game problem that leaves him in a coma. You follow Kite on his
adventures as he learns what exactly happened to Orca, how to help him, and
what to do about the forces behind it all. Oh, yeah... and explore dungeons,
fight monsters, and do all of the other usual RPG things in between.
The .hack game is divided into four parts. This guide covers the weapons and
armor to be found in part 2, .hack//Mutation. Since part 2 is a continuation
of part 1, .hack//Infection, all of the equipment from that part is included
here on the chance that you carried it with you. As the series progresses
into parts 3 and 4, .hack//Outbreak and .hack/Quarantine, all of this equipment
will carry over into those volumes. (Those games aren't out yet. Once they
are, this guide will be updated with new stuff, and posted to their respective
FAQ/guide sites - if I'm insane enough to keep this up that long...)
The original game lists equipment info in the following manner:
Name Skills
type extra skills
PAt MAt Er. Thn
PDf MDf Wtr Shd
PAc MAc Fir Magc
PEv MEv Wd. Phys
The format is a good one, but takes a lot of lines per item, and misses some
info like sell cost. My personal notes have one line per item, but some lines
stretch for more than 200 spaces! Not good for text display. So here's a
rearranged compromise:
Name Lv PAt PAc PDf PEv Er. Wtr Thn Phys
notes Sell MAt MAc MDf MEv Wd. Fir Shd Magc
Skills
Name - item's name
notes - item location, game limits, etc.
Lv - item's level
Sell - value if you sell the item at a shop in town
PAt - Physical Attack stat
PAc - Physical Accuracy stat
PDf - Physical Defense stat
PEv - Physical Evade stat
MAt - Magic Attack stat
MAc - Magic Accuracy stat
MDf - Magic Defense stat
MEv - Magic Evade stat
Er. - Earth Element stat
Wd. - Wood Element stat
Wtr - Water Element stat
Fir - Fire Element stat
Thn - Thunder Element stat
Shd - Shadow Element stat
Phys - Physical Resistance stat
Magc - Magic Resistance stat
Skills - the various special moves, magic, and other effects the item casts.
Weapons are separated by character class, then level of weapon.
Armors are separated by type (head/body/hand/leg) and by grade
(light/medium/heavy).
Rare equipment are separated to reflect their unique standings. Eventually,
they will be added to the common lists as their upgrade paths are added.
(see section 15.5: Spring of Myst for more info about upgrading)
Equipment with missing or blank information are pieces I haven't found yet.
I'm working on it. Check back in a few weeks for an update.
If you find a weapon or armor not listed here, or you find an error, let me
know! (see the end of the guide for contact info)
4) Twin Blade Weapons
---------------------
These weapons are dual blade or dagger sets. The characters are known for
their agility and swift attack rate, but they can't hit as hard as other
classes.
4.1) Twin Blades - Common
-------------------------
Name Lv PAt PAc PDf PEv Er. Wtr Thn Phys
Sell MAt MAc MDf MEv Wd. Fir Shd Magc

6) Heavy Blade Weapons
----------------------
These weapons are two-handed swords or katanas. The characters hit very hard,
but tend to be very slow in their attack speed, only striking once every 3-4
seconds.
6.1) Heavy Blades - Common
--------------------------
Name Lv PAt PAc PDf PEv Er. Wtr Thn Phys

7) Heavy Axe Weapons
--------------------
These weapons are two-handed axes. The characters have a slow attack rate,
but make up for it with strong attack power. The axe gives them a longer
reach for their attacks, but this works against them when enemies are
up close to them.
7.1) Heavy Axes - Common
------------------------

8) Long Arm Weapons
-------------------
These weapons are two-handed spears. The characters have a good reach and
attack speed, but they aren't as strong as Heavy Axemen.
8.1) Long Arms - Common

9) Wavemaster Weapons
---------------------
These are rods, staffs, and wands. The characters have little to no physical
attacking ability, concentrating instead on magic casting. To this end, their
weapons are sources of powerful spells.

10) Other characters' original weapons
----------------------------------
Each character you meet initially comes equipped with a unique weapon that
can't be found, traded, or sold anywhere else in the game. Each listing
here therefore includes the character who has it, and what character class
they are.

---------------
This is, obviously, protection for the head. These armors are chiefly
responsible for the healing and resurrection spells your characters get.

mainly offensive in nature, but also include spells that can temporarily
increase the Element stats for your characters.

focused around the offensive side, but also include spells to decrease
the elemental properties of enemies.

15) Differences between episodes
--------------------------------
Some items have changed some stats between the various episodes in the game.
For the sake of completeness, here are the changes I've noticed.
Between Game 1 //Infection and Game 2 //Mutation:
- Phantom Blades (lv.2 Twin Blade)
changed name to Phantom Twin
- Bloody Blades (lv.8 Twin Blade)
changed name to Bloody Twin
New Bloody Blades added (lv. 23 Twin Blade)
- Spiral Edge (rare Twin Blade)
changed from lv.6 to lv.2 and changed its sell price from 1000 to 350
- Fossil Bracer (lv.11 Light Hand Armor)
changed element stats from 1 each to 4 Earth, 0 Wood, 2 all others
16) Finding and Losing Weapons and Armor
----------------------------------------
Okay, now you know what they are and what they do. So how do you get them???
And once you have them, what do you do with them??? There are a bunch of ways
to get and dispose of equipment, often depending on the specific piece.
Some are common methods, and are everywhere you look. Others are only possible
through one method. A few can only be done in one place at one time, and are
never available again!
16.1) Shops
-----------
This is the easiest method for dealing with stuff. For buying, the weapon
shop in each Root Town has a selection of weapons and armor, but what's
available is sparse and weak. These items are really only meant to initially
equip your characters as you reach each server for the first time, assuming
you don't already have superior equipment from your other adventuring.
Selling is much easier. Any equipment you have can be sold, weak or strong,
common or rare. Even better, you can sell equipment at any shop in Town,
regardless of whether they sell weapons or not. In return, of course,
you get money! However, money has limited use in .hack, since you can use it
only to buy items from the Root Town shops. This may not require much funds
if you only buy essentials like Fortune Wires and Resurrects, or it may be
heavily active for you if you use a lot of spell scrolls. Whichever way you
go, selling equipment is an easy way to clear your inventory and keep a decent
balance of money in your Root Town account.
Here's a list of what weapons and armor is available for purchase
in each Root Town. Note that the price for buying these items are twice
the amount of if you sell them. (This is a general game rule.)

16.2) Trades
------------
(to be filled in)
making trades with characters
some trade items replenish, others don't
character class is important
special trades with special people
16.3) Gifts
-----------
(giving items to other characters, affection, etc)
Other players will occasionally give you items! Usually these are heavily
plot related, and are achieved as a reward of sorts for cleaning out a
new or particularly nasty dungeon. The gifts are usually Key Items rather
than equipment, but occasionally they're valuable and unique rare items.
Examples include Mimiru handing you (appropriately) Mimiru's Sword, and
Wiseman handing you the Spark Sword.
16.4) Combat and Chests
-----------------------
(to be filled in)
chests for killing monsters
chests left by portals
dungeon chests
blue vs. yellow - equipment from blue chests only!
16.5) Gott Statues
------------------
Most dungeons have a Gott Statue at the bottom, with the valuable items for
the dungeon. That's the point of making the journey into the dungeon, after
all!
Opening a Gott Statue will get you three items: typically one higher-level
piece of equipment and two treasures. The exact items you get will vary, and
are selected from a list of 5-7 items related to the field/dungeon's level, so
what you get can't be directly guaranteed. However, most dungeons will restock
the Gott statue (and the monsters!) if you gate out to the Root Town and then
return to the dungeon for another trip. Multiple trips can usually net you
the specific item you want, if you know that dungeon offers it.
Not all dungeons will restock, though.
Dungeons with rare and unique items typically will not restock after the first
visit. These are the fields/dungeons marked by special keyword sets inside
and outside of the game. Additional trips through these dungeons will find
an empty Gott Statue room.
Plot-related dungeons come in various forms. Some have no Gott Statues at all.
Some have the Gott Statue in a room behind a boss monster. Since you invariably
gate back to the Root Town after fighting a boss, you have to go back through
the dungeon a second time just to get at the statue once. In these cases, even
if the Gott Statue held common items, it will not restock, and will be empty
after you've opened it.
