Also: all costumes where checked on the PAL version of the game, I have NO
idea what it's like for other versions. But if anyone would like to let met
know something about this, I'll add it to the guide...
To find something quickly, just use Ctrl + F and type in the title of the

ii. Introduction

I assume everyone reading this guide has a good idea of the game basics for
"Guilty Gear X". Besides, there are many good FAQs out there who do a very
good job at explaining the game itself. Also, I expect everyone who uses this
faq knows how to or has already beaten Survival Mode 'normally'.. I will add
a section for Survial Mode strategies, though, so contributors are always
welcome!
Anyway, this is the first (but not the last!) guide I'm posting for Gamefaqs.
I bought this game when it first came out in Europe (2001), and I noticed a
lot of the 'costumes' you can select for your characters are VERY cool -_-
About 6 months ago (!), I FINALLY managed to beat the stuffing out of 'normal'
Survival Mode, but I'm sure I'm not done yet. More about this in the "Wanted"
section...
Spoilures WILL be given about the game's secrets, so don't tell me I didn't
warn you!
The sequence in which I 'present' the characters is based on the character
selection 'grid', going from left to right and starting at the bottom left.
The first line of each character will always read "Unique costumes: ... + 2".
This means: [this many costumes, including the "standard" outfit, see
"Legend for selecting Costumes" section] + [the 2 special costumes] (see the
"Selecting Special costumes" section)

Note (1): Play Survival Mode. The first time you ENCOUNTER an opponent with a
new costume, you'll be able to select it for your own character. It does NOT
matter if you win or lose this fight. Don't forget to SAVE now, ok?
Note (2): The costume linked to the "Punch" button is the same for everyone
(no matter how many costumes you've unlocked). It's their "standard" oufit,
as shown in the picture of your character (for instance: Ky Kiske with a
white + blue "coat".
Note (3): You'll encounter "Gold" opponents (the so-called "Dare-Devils")
every 10 levels, starting at 20, the last one at 99. You'll only be able to
select these costumes once you beat Survival Mode for the first time. More
info in the 'Obtaining Special Costumes" section.
Note (4): The Dare-Devils are Gold Testament, Gold Dizzy, Gold Chipp Zanuff,
Gold Potemkin, Gold Baiken, Gold Faust, Gold Venom, Gold Millia, Gold
Zato-1One.
If you defeat Gold Testament and Gold Dizzy in this mode, you'll unlock the
'normal' versions as playable characters.
Note (5): Supposedly you can "continue" Survival Mode by holding L1 + R1 once
you've defeated Gold Zaton-1One. I haven't confirmed this yet, because I had
to take a LONG break after finally typing this guide... I've got fragile
nerves, you know... ; _ ;
Note (6): About "holding" buttons: this means holding [button] when selecting
your character and KEEP it pressed until your first fight starts with your
character. It may not be required to hold (a) button(s) this long, but
that's the way it worked for me. I usually checked all the costumes by going
into Training Mode, always using Ky Kiske as my opponent.
Note (7): I need to check this again, but at the point I'm at I always get
the same costume no matter which of the above combinations I use for 2
buttons. That's why I'll refer to them in this guide as "any 2 buttons". Just
remember that you may get different combinations than I quote here with
certain buttons/ button combinations, but the more costumes you unlock, the
more combinations will "match" my guide.
Note (8): In some cases you actually need to move your character or attack
with them to see a particular 'element' of their new outfit (for instance:
Dizzy's wings when you make her do her taunt). I'll add more detailed
information about these "elements" in a future version of this FAQ.
iv. Selecting Special costumes

Gold costumes: beat Survival Mode (reach level 100 by BEATING Gold Zato1One
at Level 99). You do NOT get any special powers (unlike the Dare-Devils,
the cheaters!). You look pretty cool, though ^_^
I used Venom to earn these.
Shadow costumes: beat Survival Mode IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES (using the
"timer" the game uses, of course). Same story here: no special stuff, but
you look IMPOSSIBLY cool... ^__^
I used Dizzy to earn these (9.57 mnts, Sweet Lord...)
(got this from a Guilty Gear X FAQ/ guide, but I can't remember which one
; _ ;)
Each character should have a "Guilty Gear" costume, a "pseudo-3D" costume
(it has a different 'look' than the other costumes). I thought it was
'linked' to the same button for everyone, but this doesn't seem to be the
case... Can anyone give me more info on this?
I'll put "Guilty Gear costume?" between brakkets where I'm pretty sure of
this for a character.
This one's more a "character" than a costume, but hey...
Unlock "Guilty Gear Mode" (GG Mode) by completing Arcade Mode on the default
settings WITHOUT using Continues (that's how I did it). You supposedly also
get this by beating Survival Mode for the first time at Level 100.
Enable Guilty Gear Mode and select Ky as your character. He'll be "Gear Ky"
and move and attack differently. He still has ALL the same costumes as if
you selected 'normal' Ky, though.

(it has a different 'look' than the other costumes). I thought it was
'linked' to the same button for everyone, but this doesn't seem to be the
case... Can anyone give me more info on this?
I'll put "Guilty Gear costume?" between brakkets where I'm pretty sure of
this for a character.
Who knows who mentioned the "pseudo-3D" costumes (see above) in a FAQ/guide?
That way I can give that person proper Credit!
