II. INTRODUCTION

I have decided to make this Walkthrough up to give people a easy to follow
list of how to play the game. Grand Turismo is a awesome game, and many
players will find out just how engrossing this game is. Trouble is, its a
vastly HUGE game, with hundreds of different cars (by hundreds, I mean 700+),
and a great number of racing tracks from snow to dirt to mountain tops, you
get the idea.

Once you get into the game, you will find that you might start to become
confused with the vast amount of races you can do, and which cars qualify for
which race, and which cars suck and which will get you through. This
Walkthrough will hopefully give you a nice organized layout of what cars to
get, what to upgrade, where to race, and a few other things. For those who
just want to get a little help with starting, read the BEGINNER FAQ that is
in the FAQ section it will help you with the early parts of the game. My
Walkthrough will take you through the whole thing.

Now, right off the bat, I will not be including lists of cars, upgrades,
tracks, tuning, etc. All those are covered in other FAQs. Nothing I hate more
than having a Walkthrough that only gives you lists of stuff. That is called
a FAQ, not a Walkthrough. Mine is a walkthrough. I WILL give info on what
to upgrade when, and some help in hard parts, but other than that, no big
lists. You don't have to follow the guide, part of the fun is trying out the
many combo's of cars you will find, and picking ones you like.

Ok! Off to the races! Have fun, this is going to be a wild ride, on the best
racing game out on the PS2, much less anywhere else.

II. WALKTHROUGH

================================

Ok, you are ready to go, and the whole of Grand Turismo is awaiting you. If
you want, watch the intro for a while, you will see a lot of fun things that
you will experience, its all real and ingame footage, all those nice tracks
and cars are what you will see in-game.

You will first come on your Title screen, with the options "Arcade mode,
Grand Turismo Mode, Replay, etc." Forget everything except Grand Turismo
Mode. That is what you want for now. The rest is pretty fillers. Create a
save game spot, put in your name, and you'll see some info screens. Read them
and continue back to the Title screen. Choose Grand Turismo again. Now you
will enter the main "WORLD MAP".

You will start out at your HOME location, a little revolving building.
Ignore this for now. You won't start racing until you have your License.
Go to the License Center to the SW of the HOME symbol and enter there. The
License tests allow you to progress in the game, getting better in them will
open up new racing tracks and contests. LICENSE TESTS ARE A MUST! They will
get you familiar with how to control the driving. Driving is very hard in this
game, you will need all the help you can get. The difficulty steps up, just
like in real life, racing stock cheap cars around a track is not hard, but
you will move up to Rally racing, Street racing, and later on, the real
racing will come into play. Its not nothing you learn quick. GT4 (Grand
Turismo 4) will teach you as you play, and over time you will become a better
driver. You will need it.

Complete the B License test in bronze and pick up a VW Lupo.
If you have trouble, hit R3 and a "guide" strip will show up to help
you with where to go. All you need is bronze in all events, you can
practice and try for higher cups but its not needed at this point.
Get bronze in all and try and get all silver or gold later.

>---- 2. A License test

Complete the A License test in bronze and pick up a Pontiac Sunfire
GXP.

>---- 3. IB License test

Complete the IB License test in bronze and pick up a Nike One 2002.
You have your 3 main License tests under your belt. If you still
want to practice some on them be my guest.

>---- 4. DRIVING MISSIONS 1-10

Head down to the "DRIVING MISSIONS" arena. Now you want to take on
some driving challenges. Plus a free car doesn't hurt. Do missions
1-10. Feel free to cut off other drivers and cut across grass.
You will receive a DMC DeLorean for winning.

>---- 5. BEGINNER SUNDAY CUP

Go to your Home, enter garage and get into your new DeLorean. Head
to the Beginner track and sweep the Sunday Cup events. Easy as Pie.
Before driving, enter SETTINGS/DRIVING AIDS and set all fields to
5.
You'll win a Autobianchi A-112. You'll have about 23000 credits.

>---- 6. BEGINNER LIGHTWEIGHT K-CUP

Head to the Used car dealer 1 and pick up a Suzuki Cappuccino EA21r
95' for 5102 credits or so. Go to the Japanese Suzuki dealer and
tune it, 1000 credits for weight reduction 1, 1000 for a racing chip
4500 for stage 1 Turbine kit. Go to GT AUTO and get a Wing, Car
Wash and Oil change.
Now head to the BEGINNER K-cup and race, make sure to set Downforce
to about 7/15, and DRIVING AIDS to all 5's.
Winning you'll get a pretty Ginetta G4 '64.

>---- 7. JAPAN-SUZUKI K-CAR CUP

Now take your Suzuki over to the Japanese dealer and enter the
One-race and the K-car cup. Winning that you'll get a Suzuki Concept
S2. You'll have about 31,000 credits. See? Isn't hard. Or is it...

>---- 8. BEGINNER FF CHALLENGE

Time to put the Suzuki to rest, the bad little go-cart that he is.
Head to the Used Cars Showroom 2 and pick up a '98 Honda CIVIC Type
R (EK) for about 10,000 credits. Go get a WING, Oil change, and Car
Wash first thing. Now head to Tuner Village. You want a Racing chip
1000 cr, Weight reduction 1000 cr, and S3 tires 5600cr. Go to the
BEGINNER races and enter FF Challenge. Do all races EXCEPT Hong Kong.
Return to Tuneup shop and get Phase 2 TURBO kit for 12500cr. Now
return to FF Challenge and finish Hong Kong.
Make sure to tune your car. DRIVING AIDS to 5/5/5, DOWNFORCE to 7/15

Winning will get you a Mazda Mazda6 Concept car.

>---- 9. JAPAN-HONDA CIVIC One-Race

Take your Honda over to the Japanese dealership and enter the One-
race Honda CIVIC. Your Horsepower (HP) will pull you through, though
the ride will be a rough one.
You'll finish and get a Honda Mugen Motul Race car (YEA! fun!) and
have about 32,000 credits.

>---- 10. JAPANESE TRACK- 90's Challenge

Finally take your Honda over to the Japanese Track, and enter the
90's challenge. This is going to be a fun one, very close. You'll
get a Nismo 400R. Now up to 47000 credits. Time to retire your
CIVIC a while.

>---- 11. BEGINNER - 4WD Challenge

Hit the garage and jump in the new NIZMO 400 you just got. Wash it
and Oil change (learn yet?). Go to BEGINNER arena and hit the 4WD
challenges. DRIVING AIDS to 5/5/5. When done, you'll get a Toyota
Triathlon Race Car.

>---- 12. JAPAN MAZDA One-race NR-A Roadster Cup

Head to the HISTORIC SHOWROOM on your main map and buy the Mazda
MX-5 Miata '89 for 5949 cr. This will compete in a bunch of events.
Oil change, Wash, and add a WING. Head to the Tune up shop and get
a RACING CHIP, WEIGHT REDUCTION stage 1, SEMI-RACING exhaust 2800cr,
TURBINE KIT stage 2 12500cr, CARBON DRIVESHAFT 2500cr, S3 tires,
and SEMI-RACING suspension 7000cr, and Nitro pack for 5000cr. This
leaves you with 10,000cr.

Set ride height to 119, Camber to 2.0/1.5, All DRIVING AIDS to 5,
DOWNFORCE to 7/20. GOD I LOVE THIS CAR! SMOOTH AND BEAUTIFUL!.

Head to JAPAN-MAZDA One-race and hit the NR-A Roadster Cup. Just do
all-events and win Mazda Mx-Crossport.

>---- 13. JAPANESE 80 classics

Take your Mazda over to this arena and beat the '80's festivals.
You'll pick up a Mitsubishi HSR-11 Concept.

>---- 14. JAPANESE Compact Car

Go down a tad and do the Japanese Compact Car tournament with the
Mazda. Ohhh a Honda LIFE STEP van '72. whoopie.

>---- 15. BEGINNER FR Challenge

Take the Mazda here next and beat these challenges. Grab another
Oil change/Wash in here somewhere. A sweet Nissan Skyline 2000GT
'67 is your prize.

>---- 16. BEGINNER Spider and Roadster

Now Hit these races with the Mazda. A Chrysler Prowler is your
prize. You should have about 91,000 cr.

Ok, break time <grin> been racing, having fun, cutting off annoying
opponents and being cut off. Squeaking out victories at the last
minute with Nitro, and winning some very easy. So far have tested
out a bunch of cars, Hondas, Suzuki, Mazda, Nizmo.

And so far, our completion is 11.2 percent. HA! That's right, only
11 percent complete. We have a long way to go. We haven't even seen
Dirt and Snow racing, Many towns, mountain racing, alley racing,
Not even close to racing the real Sports cars and Formula cars.

So take a break, play with the photo lab if you want. Ok, enough
of that junk, back to racing!!!! The main first part of the game
is done, doing a lot of events and getting familiar with the cars.
Now its time to put away loose ends at the start, and start moving
up in the world.

>---- 17. BEGINNER MR Challenge

Ok time for something new. Go FRANCE and under RENAULT pick up a
brand spanking new Renault Cio Sport V6 for 53,720 cr. Hit the shop
for a WING, oil change and wash. At the FRENCH tune shop pick up
SPEED CHIP, WEIGHT REDUCTION 1, FULL CUSTOMIZE Suspension, BRAKE
CONTROLLER for 10600cr, and S3 tires. Head to BEGINNER hall and do
the MR Challenge. Your credits are about 0 now, so time to make
some more money.

This is going to be your first real "racing" car that you are going
to be tuning and racing. Its quiet as heck, you will wonder if
the engine is really running. Sometimes its too smooth.

Set SPRING RATE 13/13, RIDE HEIGHT 98/128, BOUND 7/7, REBOUND 8/8,
CAMBER 2.2/1.6, STABILIZERS 3/3, DOWNFORCE 20/30, DRIVING AIDS
2/2/2, BRAKE CONTROLLER 10/3.

Your prize is a Lotus Esprit Turbo '87.

>---- 18. SPECIAL CONDITIONS - Umbra Rally (easy)

Whip down some alleys here in your RENAULT. You get an amazing
Cadillac CIEN '02 for winning (HP BABY!)

>---- 19. SPECIAL CONDITIONS - Capri Rally (easy)

Enjoy the ocean as you beat this with your RENAULT and pick up the
very fun Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car.

>---- 20. SPECIAL CONDITIONS - George V Rally (easy)

Enjoy Paris with your RENAULT and pick up a Alpine A310 1600.

>---- 21. SPECIAL CONDITIONS - Tsukuba Wet Race (easy)

Slide around in your RENAULT and get a Mazda RX-8 Concept. You will
be up to about 45,000 cr.

>---- 22. SPECIAL CONDITIONS- Umbra Rally (normal)

Now its time to max out your first car. At this point, money will
be no problem. Go to your garage and pick your Toyota RSC Rally
car and sell it. Presto, instant money. We will be visiting
the Capri Rally a bunch to pick up extra cars to sell.

Head to the Tuner shop and get everything LOL. Get the best Exhaust,
best NA tuning, Port polish, Engine balancing, Best of all the
Transmissions, Clutch (triple), Racing Flywheel, Limited slip full-
custom, All weight reductions & Rigidity, and finally a nice pair
of R4 Tires. Go out and Get a Oil change and Wash. Now its time
to blast some tracks. You should have about 99,000 cr left.

SETTINGS. DOWNFORCE now to 30/30, LIMITED SLIP to 30/40/20. Put
DRIVING AIDS to 4/2/2.
If you find you can't handle the HP with this car, turn off a couple
Horsepower boosting items to lessen its speed. Hit the track and
win a Lancia Delta HF Rally Car.

>---- 23. SPECIAL CONDITIONS - Capri Rally (normal)

Continue on to the Capri Rally with your RENAULT, winning a Subaru
IMPREZA Rally Car Prototype.

>---- 24. SPECIAL CONDITIONS - George V (normal)

Keep on going skunking Paris with your RENAULT picking up a Renault
5 Maxi Turbo Rally Car.

>---- 25. SPECIAL CONDITIONS - Tsukuba Wet Race (normal)

Slide around with your RENAULT and pick up a Mazda Madas6 Touring
Car. Sweet. Now we're cookin.

>---- 26. PROFESSIONAL EVENTS - Clubman Cup

No contest, do all these events quick in your RENAULT and grab the
Mazda Mazdaspeed 6.

>---- 27. PROFESSIONAL EVENTS - Tuning Car GrandPrix

Careful, the opponent cars actually are good in this one. I actually
did my first 1080 degree spinout on this event. You'll have trouble
one one board, but the rest are good. (maybe get harder tires)

Make sure you have your RACING tires on, they are taken off auto-
matically the last race, your going to need them. Again, RENAULT
makes the world go around. Do the all-event only and get the Nissan
OPTION Stream Z. Wow!

>---- 28. PROFESSIONAL EVENTS - NA Sports

A quick run-through with your RENAULT will get you a HONDA NSX-R
Concept car. Grab a Oil change and Wash and lets head off to our
last event with our RENAULT for now.

>---- 29. FRANCE-RENAULT One-race Clio Trophy

Buy a set of R3 racing tires, they last longer. Your going on some
bit longer tracks and against RENAULT racing cars of your model.
Too bad you can't get one, well, you can but only if you win.
<Gee thanks, doesn't do me any good in this race>. Jump in and
blow those racers away and get your RENAULT Sport Trophy race car.

Make sure before each race you have the R3 racing tires on.

Stretch those fingers, they are tired from all this racing. We are
going to retire the RENAULT for a bit, it doesn't have the wheel
base and power for future racing, put the good little boy back in
the garage while we try and clear up some misc races about.

You should have about 366,000 cr. Maybe more if you re-did some
races. Your percentage should be about 18 percent, give or take. Yea
thats right, not even 1/5 of the way through. Told you this game was
gonna take a while. Now don't feel like you have to follow the guide
to the letter, its a lot of fun testing out other cars and maybe you
will find a car you like a lot better than the ones we have been
driving. No biggie, you can still pretty much follow along. OK!
back to racing, what are you doing eating at a time like this.

Ok, we have just hit the 50% mark, give or take. Cleared out alot
of the races, but still alot more to go, including the big ones,
like the Endurance races, Hard tracks, and final 2 Licenses. The
next section we will be working on finishing up the majority of
the One-races, some of the Events and Missions.
You will start to see car prices start to shoot up also. Hope your
still with me, still alot of fun stuff to do.
We will also be concentrating on the B-spec computer driver. This
in itself will take a long time to do, but the races are quicker
than when you are driving, so its VERY good to do this in order to
do the endurance races (do YOU want to stay up and drive for 24
hours when the computer can do it in 8?). OK! back to Driving!

We are now at 75% and counting. Hitting the last stretch, but it is
going to be the longest stretch. We have Endurance races left to do, we
have B-spec computer driver training left to do, all that in itself is
going to take a while.

Note, You can skip the B-spec driver section if you plan on doing the
entire races with you driving (A-spec), but many people will not even
think of doing that, especially when they see 50 laps of a track, or
events that take 24 HOURS of playing straight to do. Do you want to play
a race for 24 hours straight? doing the same revolution over, and over,
and over, bla bla bla. Not me. But hey, its up to you.

Now its time to train your B-spec driver. Go to part IV. B-spec to see
how to do that, I will put it at the end of the Walkthrough so not to
break stride. This is a condensed version. After you train your B-spec
driver up some, you can continue with the Walkthrough, or do some other
things.

I strongly suggest you B-spec the rest of the races. Not only do you
need to build your B-spec driver up for the long races, but you can take
a break from actually racing a bit. You don't have to of course, drive
all you want, but from this point on I used B-spec to get familiar with
it, and to build my driver up.

Congratulations, you have reached 100 percent completion in the Gran Turismo
4 game. What does this mean? You have completed and earned gold in every race
in the game. If you don't have 100 percent at this point, there are some races
that you didn't get a gold in. (license tests do not count towards the 100%)

So now what do you do. Well, plenty. You still have license tests that you
might not have received gold in. Your "stable" of cars at this point isn't
even over 200, that means there are over 500+ other cars in the game, maybe
even special colors and makes that rarely show up in Used car lots. Theres
plenty of fun trying out Speed setups on the test tracks, and Drag strip times
on the drag strip. Not to mention the photo area that you can play with.

IV. B-SPEC DRIVING

==============================

B-spec driving is when you use your computer driver to drive your car,
such as if you are doing endurance races and don't want to actually drive a
track for 24 hours straight.

The B-spec driver has skills which you need to raise by racing, he starts
at 0/0/0 and goes up to 100/100/100. The 3 skills are machinery, course, and
battle skills. Machinery is raised by racing different HP/makes of cars,
course is raised by racing on different tracks, and battle is from racing
other cars. It takes a long time to raise your computer driver up enough that
he can handle the really hard tracks, but its worth it (especially when you
can have him run a race while you do other things, then collect the credits
and free cars. Unlimited money.

All info on B-specs was taken from GAMEFAQS FAQ created by Mindlessoath.
If you want to see more detail on B-specs, look at his FAQ. I will just put
some basic info to get you started. While racing you can speed up the race
by pushing R1 to bring up blackscreen, then L1+Dpad right 3 times (speed up
to 3x speed). L1+Dpad left slows back to normal. Exiting this blackscreen
puts the speed back to normal, so stay in the screen while doing 3x.

First set of points racing these just on nurburing, practice. Do a half dozen
laps or so, Speed 2 then 3. (My scores after were 2312/45/33/0)

A-1: Volkswagen Lupo 1.4 '02, default;
A-2: Mazda Roadster 1800 RS (NB) '04, default
B-1: Mazda Roadster 1800 RS (NB) '04, default + supercharger
B-2: Mazda Roadster 1800 RS (NB) '04, default + stage 3 turbo
C-1: Toyota RSC Rally Raid '02, default
C-2: Toyota RSC Rally Raid '02, default + medium racing tires
D-1: Nissan 350Z Concept LM Race Car '02, default
D-2: Nissan 350Z Concept LM Race Car '02, default + stage 3 turbo

Second set of points are obtained using these cars in family cups on each
58 tracks with different difficulty settings. (I used -8,-3, 3, and 8)

A: VW Lupo 1.4 '02, default + medium racing tires
B: Mazda Roadster 1800 RS (NB) '04, default + supercharger +
medium racing tires
C: Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car '02, default + medium racing tires

So, start racing. You'll only get good by experience, so you have to race.
Get the above cars (if you have them) and start B-spec racing in the family
cups and Nurburing. As your skills go up you will get better. I won't walk
you through the B-spec races, by this time you should know how to race, so
get started and get some points under you belt.

Now right off the bat we all know this is not the only way to go through
the game, there are literally hundreds of cars you can use, and the order
you use them is up to you also, this is just one way to do it. I have
personally played through this exact list myself with no trouble and I am not
that good a driver. People have their favorites, and its alot of fun finding
a car that really feels you.

Enjoy yourself, this is a must buy game that is a 10/10 in most peoples
eyes. You must buy this even if you are not a racing game fan (Like myself)
If I would buy this game, and I hate sports/racing games, then the game
must be incredibly fun and enjoyable. For racing fans, its the cream of the
crop.
