...ABOUT THIS GUIDE...
This document is a modified version of a portion of a guide/FAQ by this same
author. It contains charts for the "Simulation Mode" portion of Gran Turismo
3. This guide is designed especially for the player who wishes to buy as few
cars as possible, and to complete the game using as many of the prize cars
available. These charts will be invaluable, even for an experienced player.
This guide is written to create a "cross-reference" so that for any given
race the player will know:
(1) What cars are usable for a particular race
(2) WHERE to obtain those usable cars
(3) What prize car(s) can be won for which races, and
(4) WHERE those prize cars are usable
NOTES:
(1) A single asterisk may appear in a list of usable cars for certain races.
This indicates that information will follow for this particular car under
"Obtaining Usable Cars".
(2) If you see the name of a car in braces (" {car name} ") this indicates
that this car is one of SEVERAL prize cars which can be won from the
listed event.
(3) If you see a carrot symbol ( ^ ) after the name of a prize car, this
indicates that information will follow about this particular car in the
"Prize Car Usable For" section.
(4) A double asterisk indicates special notes about this race, usually
regarding special information about a particularly useful usable car.
(5) In the unfortunate event that you see a question mark at some point, this
indicates potentially inaccurate information. See the closing of this
guide for more information about this.

** Although the prize cars from this race are pretty sweet, there are no
particular races which specifically call for any of them, hence there is
no listing for "Prize Car Usable For". The Sylvia is superbly nimble and
fairly quick. The Toyota GT-One is essentially top amongst the supercars.
With proper setup it nearly contends with the F1 cars, alongside the Mazda
787-B and the Escudo. The GT-One does quite well for top-end speed races,
namely on the test course.

you don't get the prize you want just reboot the system and repeat from
the last race (which you can repeatedly exit) until you win the prize car
you want.

is one race where you will have to purchase a car in order to win.

Renault Clio Sports Race Car *
OBTAINING USABLE CAR:
Clio Sports Race Car: Endurance {Super Speedway}

OBTAINING *USEFUL* CAR:
R390 GT Road Car: (Professional Leage) Gran Turismo World Championship
TVR Speed 12: (Professional Leage) TVR Tuscan Speed Challenge
** Here you have your choice of using any car you want, so long as it meets
the "No Tuning" criteria. So, which amongst the myriad of regular cars is
the best? There are 2 cars which shine above the rest...
- Mazda R390 GT Road Car
This car comes officially with all "stock" parts, except that they are set
perfectly for racing performance standards. It's moderate horsepower is
complimented with low weight and quick revs. It is almost the "secret" for
races with a "No Tuning" limitation.
- TVR Speed 12
In terms of sheer power, this car is tops. Its acceleration and top end
far exceed even the R390 Road Car. It's drawback is its horrible handling.
* Refer to notes under "Appendix #2 - No Tuning" for more information
LIKE THE WIND
LIMITATIONS: none
PRIZE CAR: Mazda 787B ^
** Use the same trick as for the Super Speedway Endurance: Take the
Escudo, put a rubber band over the gas pedal, and let it ride the
walls for these 20 long, boring laps.
PRIZE CAR USE...
Tuned right, this MR turbo car can almost keep up with the Formula
cars; it ranks with the Escudo and the Toyota GT-One.

RALLY RACES
_____________
USABLE CARS:
The only "true" requirement to enter the rally races is having a car which is
equipped with DIRT tires. Not all cars can be equipped with these; of those
which can _some_ will require you to purchase these tires while other cars
will come with them. As a general rule of thumb, when you win "rally" cars
as prizes in the races they will automatically come with Dirt tires.
OBTAINING USABLE CARS:
Usually your best bet is to look for 4WD cars, _most_ of them can be equipped
with dirt tires, while _most_ other cars cannot. Exceptions are for race
cars (not rally cars) which almost never accept Dirt tires - 4WD or not.
The small, low-horsepower 4WD cars can do fairly well in rally races IF they
are enhanced to maximum horsepower, simply due to their light weight. Many
Skylines (Nissan GTR's) do great as rally cars because of their high HP when
modified for high horsepower.
If you specifically want a rally car for the rally races, and wish to use a
prize car, here's a short list of where to find some:
In Amateur League:
- Evolution Meeting - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Rally Car
In Professional League:
- 4WD Challenge - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII Rally Car Prototype
- Polyphony Digital Cup - {Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Edition}
(THE ESCUDO IS AWESOME!!!)
In Endurance Races:
- Passage to Colosseo (Rome Circuit) - {Lancia Delta HF Integrale Rally Car}
In the RALLY races:
- Start with the Swiss Alps race, gaining the Peugeot 206 Rally Car. It has
slightly better performance than most other rally cars. Also good are the
Lancer Evo VII Prototype (featuring the elusive yaw control) [Swiss
Alps II] and the Impreza Prototype [Rt. 5 Wet II]

Mazda MX-5 Miata VR Limited
F688 / S
PRIZE CARS USABLE FOR:
ALL Miata MX-5s: Spider & Roadster; FR
F688/S: Durn-near everything. It's an MR, NA and superfast. It's one of
the "F1" cars mentioned sporadically throughout the game - and
probably the first one you'll obtain & certainly the easiest as
this particular endurance race is pretty much the shortest.
** The Miata LS is the fastest of the stock Miatas. It can be won by
getting all gold trophies on the "B" License, which is time-consuming but
not horribly difficult. It can also be bought from the dealer. Remember
to change the oil 1st thing before putting a single mile on it - this adds
a few horsepower. Medium-slick tires are the best choice: try to minimize
your pit stops. Remember the NO TUNING rule.

SUPER SPEEDWAY 150 MILES - 100 laps
LIMITATIONS - no limitations
PRIZE CARS:
Chevy Corvette C5R
Tickford Falcon XR8 Race Car
Clio Sport Race Car
F090 / S
** There are some users which recommend using the Escudo, putting a rubber
band over the accelarator (right analog stick) and letting the Escudo
just ride the walls for those 100 laps. Might not be a bad way to go,
but don't go blame MasterBart if you end up losing this way.

==============
|| APPENDIX ||
==============
-------------------
1. SERIES RACES
-------------------
Some events simply require that you beat all the races within them, in order
to get the prize car. You may be well advised to hold on to that prize car,
because once you sell it you'll not be able to win that prize car again.
Other events come in a series. At the end of the series you will be awarded
a prize car AT RANDOM from the 4 prize cars available. If you have your
heart set on a specific prize car you can use the following technique:
Play up until the last race in the series, and save. For example, if
it's a 10 race series, save after race 9. Start race 10, play it if you want
to and have the time. If you don't get the prize car you want, simply reboot
the console -- you'll start the game automatically from your save point after
race 9. If you want, you can exit this last race AFTER the race has started.
Just remember that you'll need to have enough points for this, as you will be
awarded zero points for skipping any race. You can keep rebooting until you
get the prize car you want.
----------------
2. NO TUNING
----------------
Although rare, there are a few times in the game where you are given a "No
Tuning" limitation. The exception to this is that you will be allowed to use
any kind of tire you want (well, except dirt tires...obviously).
There are certain modifications which CANNOT be "undone" to a car, and which
will disqualify you. These include things such as:
- Porting and polishing the engine
- Performing a "Full Balance" on the engine
- Increasing the displacement of the engine; or
- Performing a Weight Reduction on your car
If you have purchased a regular ("stock") car and have not done any of the
items listed above, but have added other parts, you simply need to remove
those parts BEFORE attempting to enter a race with a "No Tuning" limitation.
You can remove parts by entering any race or in "Run & Setting" in the home
menu.
You will frequently find yourself unable to use a race car on a race with the
"No Tuning" limitation. Most race cars come with advanced parts, and you
cannot go to the tune shop to buy "stock" parts for race cars. As an example,
most race cars come with a fully adjustable transmission and suspension.
These parts are not acceptable for the "No Tuning" limitation, and you are
stuck with the fully adjustable parts because again you cannot purchase just
a "stock" transmission or suspension.
ROADSTER ENDURANCE
------------------
For the ROADSTER ENDURANCE you are limited to using a Miata, so you'll need
to use the fastest Miata you can find. This is the Miata LS, which you can
win by getting all gold trophies on the "B" License. Just remember not to
perform any modifications which cannot be undone.
POLYPHONY DIGITAL CUP and TRIAL MOUNTAIN ENDURANCE
--------------------- ------------------------
There are two very unique races in the game -- one series and one endurance.
The only modification you're allowed is tires, thus you are challenged to
find the fastest STOCK car in the game. After MUCH experimenting, I've
found 2 top contenders, both of which can be won as prize cars.
First and foremost is the Mazda R390 GT Road Car. Essentially it is
already a race car; for example, the transmission is not adjustable (this
would disqualify it) but is still set for racing performance. Don't let
the merely moderate horsepower fool you - it's fast and has fantastic
handling. If possible I recommend getting two of these cars, keep one
specifically for the Polyphony Digital Cup (and possibly the Trial Mountain
Endurance), and on the other one put as much modification as you can --
this car can be tuned to tremendous horsepower (even MORE than the R390
Race Car!). It can be won in the Professional League Gran Turismo World
Championship -- but note that it is one of four prize cars selected at
random; see notes in the Appendix under "Series Races" for help.
The other car is the TVR Speed 12. This car has an enourmous beast of an
engine. This car has more acceleration than the R390 Road Car, and far
more top-end speed. The drawback is that it has VERY poor handling. If
used for the Polyphony Digital Cup (or without any modifications in any
race) you can expect to come to a near stop for every turn and still end up
going offroad frequently. Even with full modifications and careful tuning
this car is still a challenge to drive. It can be won in the Professional
Leage TVR Tuscan Speed Challenge.

full guide
----------
As mentioned, this guide is limited to only certain limited portions of the
game, and is taken from a longer complete guide for the game from the same
author. So far the only useful information which appears here and not in the
full FAQ/Guide is in regards to the "No Tuning" section(s). The original

this is the only link to the full guide I feel is necessary.
source(s) used
--------------
All of the information in this guide can be obtained from playing the game
itself. When I first began gathering information, I used this info solely
for my own personal use and without the idea of ever compiling it into a
guide such as this. Therefore I did not make any attempt to take note of the
sources from which I gathered this information. Unfortunately, some of this
information may have made it into this guide and I have no means by which to
quote my sources of information used. Also, some of this information may not
be accurate. Beating this game is a long and tedious process, which with
moderately-paced play can take weeks or more likely months. It is simply not
possible to realistically double-check everything.
I do know that one of my main sources was one "AlaskaFox", and that (s)he and
I are using different releases of the game (mine being the American release).
Therefore there ARE some discrepancies. Any item which I am unsure about I
have denoted with a question mark in this guide. I got this information from
GameFaqs.com at the following address:

My apologies for any inconvenience; I have taken time and care to
double-check everything I could, thus any incorrect information -- dare I say
plagarism -- is purely unintentional. Please contact me if there are any
concerns over copyright infringement. Also, all attempts at contacting this
"AlaskaFox" have been fruitless, therefore any information used from this
individual's guide are essentially used without express permission.

And on a final note: for nearly every site with which I register, I use the

nuisance. Still, we are not one and the same.
