The pointmaps are back! Well, for stage 5 anyway. Homework is preventing me
from being able to work on this FAQ very often. I just thought I'd submit
what I had so far so you wouldn't think I'd died or anything.
Version 3.0 - Finished 2/6/03
My first major update. I made the sections easier to tell apart from each
other because I was tired of this guide looking like crap. I also put in
point values for freestyling on all the songs. Oh yeah, I added the (crappy)
ASCII art at the top. I'm trying an experiment and adding a notemap for one
song. If it's a success, I'll do them for all the songs.
Suggestions on how to improve them (or this guide in general) are very
appreciated. I won't give you my email address, though. If you want to
contact me, post on the message boards for this game at gamefaqs.com or
freq.com. It's funny; ever since I took out my e-mail address I've been
getting a lot less spam...
Version 2.2 - Finished 12/21/02
Yet another "update" where I take out a bunch of stuff. I took out where to
find all the songs because I was tired of only having some of them there. If
you want to know where to find them, ask someone at freq.com. I also took
out my e-mail address to reduce spam.
Version 2.1 - Finished 11/17/02
I added the instruments for each song and where to find some of the songs.
When I get all the songs I'll make that version 3.0.
Version 2.0 - Finished 10/27/02
I know it's been a while, but I bought an Xbox and lost some of my interest
in working on this guide. This FAQ has been renovated! I changed everything
except for the big chunk of information below. I also got rid of the
pointmaps; see below for why. Not that anybody will care, but I also
upgraded to Notepad plus (I was using regular Notepad before).

Box A: This contains the artist, followed by the song title.
Box B: Genre of the song, followed by its number of beats per minute (tempo).
Box C: Song section guide. Sections with the same letter will have the exact
same notes in them. (USELESS TRIVIA: Early in Frequency's development cycle,
these letters were used in remix mode, but they were removed because people
got confused by what they meant.) The numbers beneath them are just how many
bars are in each section.
Box D: The amount of points you get per bar for freestyling. This varies
depending whether you're playing the original game or the online demo, hence
the multiple values. This may also vary if you are playing a remix.
Box E: Instruments used in each song, in order from left to right in the
tunnel.

Pointmaps tell the point values of every bar in a particular song. They're
useful to help you find a good path to take through a song. The top of the box
tells the current section of the song, the letters on the left are
abbreviations of the instrument, and the numbers indicate the point value of
each bar. Read from left to right.
To find the point values for two-bar sections (for solo mode), simply add
together the points of the two bars you are playing. If the second bar has no
notes (denoted by a -), it still counts as 1 point.
So far, only Stage 5 has completed pointmaps. I will have more songs covered
in the next update.
In addition the this information, the final song has a notemap.

Section B
As with the game, the pointmap needs to be read from bottom to top. The bottom
tells you what section the column is for. Just above that, the lowercase
letters abbreviate the instrument for that track. Each column is a different
track. The row of numbers tells the point value for the current bar. A 0
means 10 points, while an x means no points. Just above that is the section
and bar number of the current bar. Notes are shown as capital letters. An L is
a left note, M is a middle note, and R is a right note. A - means there is no
note in that spot. On each beat of the song, the - is replaced with a ~.

There are no tips on how to play the game or get a high score -- GameFAQs
already has a few guides for that. I won't provide codes, either. Currently,
only one song has a notemap. I will not make notemaps for any difficulty level
