BACKGROUND:
this game is based on the Baki the Grappler anime, which contained 26
episodes and was released in two DVD boxes in 1999. An OVA (Orgininal Video
Animation) was also made. This story takes part during the second half of
the series.
Recently manga volumes have been released which take part after the series.
The story is about Baki who wants to become the strongest Grappler
(ultimate fighter) to defeat his father, the strongest man in the world.
The fights take place all over the world but the Tournament is held under
the Tokyo Dome, known as the Underground Fighting Arena. Only the strongest
and best Grapplers of the world are invited...
A Grappler may not use weapons in a fight, that's the only rule given. They
can use any attacks/style to win.

SECRETS:
Yashazaro JR: complete Arcade mode with all default characters on any
difficulty setting

THE BASICS:
R1: taunt/provoke-dis the opponent so that his superbar goes down
Blocking: hold back(also possible in the air)
Throw: square+x/triangle+o (doesn't apply for some Grapplers)
Square: punch
X: kick
Triangle: strike
Perfect block: B+o (some moves are too strong to block normally. Possible
in the air)
Surprise Attack: after perfect block, B+o+triangle.
Golden Counter: qcb+o (just before the opponent hits you)
Tech: B+o+triangle
Get up from the ground: B/F/U
Get up attack: x/square+x
Air recovery: U+square+x ( ex.; after a wall hitter:a vicious strike which
sends you flying to the wall, where the opponent gets to pummel you for
free.
Pursuit:after a succesfull wall hitter, press F,F to get a chaincombo-
opener(you'll hear a supersonic sound).You've got 4 seconds to do the
chaincombo.
If you're doing a Pursuit from a long distance you'll get a free punch-
opener. During the chaincombo you can do additional Pursuits if you're
getting pushed away from the wall.
Superbar: fills up the usual way by attacking and blocking. Different
levels (L1/L2/L3) give more hits.
Life recover: When your getting KO'ed and your meter is maxed out at Level
3, press square+triangle+x+o (you'll hear a beating heart, get an extra
lifebar which automatically empties itself to a tiny sliver and a superbar
which automatically fills up.
P1 costume: square/o-P2 costume: triangle
poses: only with a Perfect Win, Win, Lose.
Dizzy: after taking too many hits...
Buffering: moves can be buffered. Example; instead of HCT+s, hold s,
perform HCT motion, release s! Some combo's are made possible by this.
Auto-Guardattack: certain moves of the Grapplers can't be stopped by normal
attacks. These moves (AGA) block de normal attack en hit the opponent.
Superjump: D,U/DB, UF/DF,UB (for evading or jumping in)
COMBOSYSTEM:
resembles that of Rival Schools and uses square (p), x (k) and triangle
(s).
The chains can be started low or from a jump-in combo.
All chains can be cancelled into commandmoves, specials and supers.
Best way to start a chain is with p. From there you can go to k and/or s.
By using only p you get a maximum of 3+ hits.
A different way is to start with k and then p and/or s.
By using k alone you'll score a maximum of 2+ hits, because you'll get
pushed away from the opponent when you're kicking.
S can't be chained into p or k on the ground, it can be chained from a
jump-in combo.
It's possible to cancel s into some commandmoves (like F+s).
The commandmoves can be cancelled by jumping, a special or super/ jump-in
combo.
Some can be cancelled into other commandmoves, exceptions exist to this
rule like s into k, but it doesn't happen a lot.
Take note that a p/k/s changes it's animation from a distance (far/close).
A high S becomes a mid S, making some combo's possible!

Everyone uses the same system but adds to it by personal commandmoves,
distance, so experiment!
Some combo's listed in this FAQ can be escaped/teched (wall,lying down)if
you're quick enough!
LEVELS:
There are only 5 levels to fight in, but all of them are based after places
in the anime;
JUNGLE: where Baki fought against Yashazaro.
GRASS FIELD: Yujiro killed Baki's mother here and left Baki lying helpless.
JAPANESE GARDEN/DOJO: Where the promoter of the Underground Fighting Arena
lives.
UNDERGROUND FIGHTING ARENA: the world's strongest Grapplers are invited to
fight here.
GARAGE:After the Finals, Yujiro and Jack squared off against each other
here.

Yakuza leader (aka second generation) and Baki's best friend.

Just like the Yakuza Hanayama hits fast and hard using merciless attacks.
Unique combo's and a super you can't guard, but he's slow. The far s links
into a special or super.

A wrestler who will stop at nothing to win. Known as the Killer in the US.

He's got an attitude to match his powerful moves (pre-fight pose:the
finger). His specialty is to stun his opponent and ground attacks. Weak
wall chaincombo's but a long reach.

Uses Kenpo/Kung Fu as his style. He's a rival of Kasumi and Kousho because
Karate evolved from Kenpo.

capitalises on his opponents' mistakes. Play him with technique... close s

Just like his brother, Kureha has developed a flashy style and he's got the
attitude to match.
It uses all of his knowledge of the human body learned as an "illegal"
surgeon. His combo's can be deadly in the corner because of his juggling
capability, but if the opponent hits the floor they can be broken.

Kureha's brother and rival of Retsu. Fighting Style is known as the
Cordcutter Technique, which is an ancient and deadly Karate art. By cutting

Pupil and adopted son of Doppo. Fighting Style is Karate which is developed
from Chinese Kung Fu. Because of this, Retsu is Kasumi's and other Karate

An old enemy of Yujiro whose father was killed by him. Known as the Night
Ape, he's beaten many opponents. With his long arms it's easy to make

He has even killed his wife when she tried to protect Baki. His s can be
